La Fea Más Bella #254 4/16/07 Aurora Powers: International Woman of Mystery
Caro sees Lety's face on the cover of a tabloid and gloats that she was right about a makeover doing Lety some good.
Julieta wakes Lety, who hides under the covers doesn't want to get up. She even refuses an offer of breakfast in bed. Her problem? She can't decide which face to wear to work.
Tomas takes Alicia home from Acapulco... apparently she brought luggage. She says with a bath, she'll be good as new. Tomas wants in on this bath, but is refused. She sends him home, advising that if he wants more than the little kisses she gave him last night just to be nice, he's going to have to make more money.
Omar is reading the tabloid at home and mumbling to himself about this mysterious woman he's in love with. He kisses her earring and says it stills smells like her perfume. He starts to call Fern to tell him how happy he is, then decides not to.
Fern asks Tomas what Aldo said about buying of Conceptos's debt. Tomas says that Aldo said he'll discuss it with them later. This answer doesn't satisfy Fern, but it's all Tomas can offer. (Tomas is wearing an aqua t-shirt with a forest green jacket - weird color combo.)
Lety decides to be her regular old self for Halloween. I mean work. She says something about her braces/retainer/whatever and draws on some bushy eyebrows (using an old photo of herself for reference). She asks the mirror, "mirror mirror, who's the ugliest of them all?" and giggles.
Omar brings the tabloid to work. I guess he's reinstated himself as an employee. He shows the picture to the entire cuartel and tells them he's going to marry her. (No one recognizes the Mystery Woman.)
Lety comes down the stairs to breakfast, just as frumpy as ever and vows that no one will ever know what she looked like last night. RoboPop wonders why she didn't want to get out of bed. She doesn't have a great answer. They turn on the TV (which is normally kept in the parents' bedroom) and the Televisa guy is showing footage of the Mystery Woman. Lety grins goofily. RoboPop disapproves of Aurora's revealing clothing. The Televisa guy says they're going to launch a campaign to find that woman. Lety's eye twitches.
Omar goes to his old office and says he forgives Fern. Fern offers him the Big Chair. Omar tells him about the Mystery Woman but doesn't want to show him the picture because maybe Fern will try to steal her. Caro comes in and is surprised when Fern offers her his seat (he smacks it invitingly). She says "you're not going to hit me too, are you?"
Out in the Vortex, the cuartel is watching TV. They wonder about the Mystery Woman and something about having dinner with Fernando Colunga.
Caro asks Omar for the earring. Omar agrees to give it back, but only if Aurora will have dinner with him that evening.
Lety gets to the office and Celso comments that she looks strange. He is so concerned that he rides up on the elevator with her and follows her up to her office, where she is soon joined by Carolina. Caro shows her the tabloid article. "Lety's in an article!," Lety exclaims. Fern comes in, just in time to hear that. He takes the paper. He sees the Aurora photo but quickly flips past it. Lety points out a pair of eyeglasses in a crowd and says that's her. She tells him that photos of her are from horror stories. Fern disagrees and says she's bellisima!
He peers at her closely, and Lety gets self-conscious and tries to hide her face. There's no new info about Aldo, so he goes out into the Vortex where the cuartel is still gosipping about the Mystery Woman. They ask if he doesn't think she's pretty. He's not especially impressed. He says he likes Le - er, that is, he likes to read his business stuff. He goes to his office.
Lety tells Caro they're not going to tell anyone about Aurora. She wonders if she should give herself a mustache. Manuel calls again about the earrings. Caro says he'll get them back. Lety admits she lost one. Caro says Omar has it. Lety is not keen to have to get all dressed up for him again.
Caro gets another call and has to leave. She tells Lety to get the earring back. Lety is surprised to hear that Omar's in the office.
Fern and Omar talk about Aurora. Fern assures him that he prefers Lety. Omar cannot shut up about this great goddess. (At some point, Fern refers to Aldo as a "knight of the rectangular table.") Omar puts on the earring and Fern tells him that Aldo bought off Conceptos's debt. They think that might be the end of Conceptos.
Alicia arrives in a crazy white outfit and designer sunglasses. She asks haven't they ever seen a singing star before? The cuartel ridicules her. She says she'll be doing autographs at 4 and photos at 5. If they want one sooner they'll have to bring her 50 of Fernando Colunga first. (Okay, that's twice now that the Fine One has been mentioned in a single episode. What's up?) Tomas shows up and introduces her as the Great Queen of Song, and says he's her agent. She tells Tomas her hand hurts from signing all those autographs. Tomas is preparing to kiss it when Lety thunks him on the shoulder and says he's acting goofy.
Lety is looking for Omar. They're all confused as to why he's back in the office. Gossip gossip. They mention the Mystery Woman. Lety says she's very pretty, unlike herself. Alicia thinks Aurora's more like her. (Laughter.)
Fern and Omar continue to catch up and Omar unthinkingly refers to "la gargolita." Fern tells him if he does that again, he'll kill him!
Lety comes in. She wants to know what Omar's doing there. Omar claims that Fern is trying to get him to come back to work for Conceptos. (She tries to take the earring, but Omar takes it out from under her hand.) Omar says he want to help pay off the debt. Fern explains about Aurora, or as he calls her, "a-llorar" (a reference to crying). He doesn't think she's all that pretty. Lety leaves them, and a moment later, Omar nearly calls her "gargolita" again. Almost.
In the Vortex, Alicia tells Lety there's a surprise waiting in her office. Is it one of Aldo's daily gifts? No, it's the other kind of surprise, the kind that sometimes inspires people to phone the police. Ariel is in there, and he's not sitting on the sofa or the guest chair, no, he's sitting in the president's chair! He says he's been waiting for her to give him the presidency! Lety laughs at his great joke and asks if he has any others. He reminds her that she quit at the last meeting and claims that the executive board agreed he'd be the new president.
Out in the Vortex, Alicia is telling the cuartel that Ariel's the president, so she'll automatically be his assistant. They wonder how she can both be a singing star, and the president's assistant. Martha suggests that perhaps she's the assistant to a singing star. Tomas comes out to help, but she brushes him off, telling him she's now Ariel's assistant. To the cuartel, she says "get to work, slaves!"
Meanwhile, Aldo is meeting with a lawyer, who explains that the Mendiolas and Villaroels will need to consult with him, the effective owner of Conceptos, on all decisions. This brings a smile to Aldo's face, who clarifies, he's not the technical owner of Conceptos, but he's in control of the company.
Lety tells Ariel about Aldo buying off the debt. Ariel says he knows that, but a qualified person needs to be president. He tells her to get out of his office. Lety calmly says he'd probably be the best president in the world, but at the very least they should inform Fernando. Ariel is scornful. Lety expresses pity for Ariel, who can't get the presidency he's wanted all his life, oh how painful it must be. Ariel responds that she'll always be an ugly economist who can only provoke pain. Lety flashes back to her first glimpse of Aurora in the mirror and smirkingly agrees with him. Ariel says she's just an employee, and he may not be perfect, but he's an owner. "Get that? I'm the owner!"
He sounds just like a spoiled little kid, but he's groping her like Aldo. "Sure I get it," Lety says coldly. Omar, Tomas, and Fern interrupt. Fern asks who invited Ariel to the party. Ariel says he's taken over the presidency of his company and has lots to do. Fern explains to the others that Ariel got dropped as a kid, and it's affected his mind permanently. Ariel claims he discussed it with the executive board and he has every right to it. He kicks them all out.
Fern basically tells them to let the baby have his bottle for the day. It'll all be sorted out tomorrow. They leave Ariel alone, who then congratulates himself.
Out in the Vortex, Lety thanks Fern for defending her and admits she doesn't understand Ariel. Fern assures her that no one understands Ariel - he's been like that since birth. Lety says it's all really their fault the company was in a bind. Fern says no, it's Luigi's fault, for spending too much money.
Speak of the devil, Luigi comes off the elevator to a lot of self-induced fanfare. He tells them all to stop crying, because he's back, and advises that he won't be doing autographs and photos. They all stare at him, and he asks haven't they ever seen a celebrity before. There's an awkward silence as Fern approaches Luigi... and begins to strangle him. They are separated mostly by Omar and Irma. Fern blames Luigi for the loss of the company. Luigi is surprised to hear that his expenses cost them the company.
(Lety picks Omar's pocket and retrieves the earring, but he catches her. She tells him he doesn't wear earrings and she found it on the floor. She reluctantly gives it back. )
Luigi whines and quits, yet again. People do not immediately begin knocking themselves out to change his mind.
Alicia is "helping" Ariel out in his new job. "Find Aldo," he orders. "Review salaries and bonuses," Alicia writes in her notepad. "Get me the latest numbers for the company," he orders. "I don't like the color of Omar's office," Alicia notes. "Maybe it should be red and gold." "Ask about the bank accounts, and then take a memo," Ariel orders. "I'm going to need an apartment and a cell phone," Alicia writes.
"Okay, take note, dear clients and friends, it's a pleasure for us to inform you that Mr. Ariel Villaroel... no, that's no good, okay, repeat all of that," Ariel says to Alicia.
"Huh?" Alicia says. She hasn't been taking any of his notes - only her own. Ariel takes the notepad and is disgusted. He says between "their" (Fern and Lety's) loyalty and her intelligence, no wonder the company is in the crapper. Alicia asks him not to be like his sister. She babbles, and Ariel's eyes glaze over with whatever element medieval people used to associate with anger.
Meanwhile, Lety is on the phone with Caro in the Vortex. Marcia, coming out of the bathroom, overhears Lety saying she couldn't get the earring from Omar, so Aurora's going to have to go to dinner with him, "but I don't want anyone to find out." And I'm thinking she still hasn't said anything totally incriminating yet, but then Lety adds, "don't worry, Carolina, I'll make myself up all stunning and gorgeous. He'll be even more knocked out than yesterday. Our date will be at a restaurant called The Delights."
Gee, Lety, why not draw a map too so that Marcia doesn't have to follow you?
Marcia gloats. "Leticia with Omar? Gorgeous? I think I've got a date at The Delights."
Mañana
Marcia warns Fernando that two men aren't enough for Lety - she's going after Omar too.

I'm just glad our boys made up and are friends again. Kudos to Fer for giving Omar the big chair. :-)
I was kinda hoping it would have been an Aldo free episode, but I'm sure he's got a min. scene clause in his contract.
Mari--I read in Friday's posts that you heard that Angelica Vale is supposed to be on Ugly Betty. That would be so cool, I was wondering if any of the actors would make guest appearances. Here's hoping that Jaime Camil will do an extended guest appearance....I girl can dream.
I thought Marcia looked particularly evil and unattractive when she was listening to Lety talking to Caro.
Lots of make up and her lips drawn on like Lucille Ball.
Not her best look but it did add to her nasty character at that moment.
I am liking Alicia and Tomas much more than I did previously.
He loves her as much as she loves herself.
I didn't understand Ariel. Did the board actually tell him to assume the presidency, or did he just decide to take it over?
Carrie L.
I'm liking Alicia and Tomas together more also. Tomas better be the one trying to take over the presidency in order to make more money for Alicia.
I cracked up at Alicia's taking dictation. That was so funny because she looked and acted like she was seriously taking down everything Ariel dictated.
It's funny the different reactions our two characters have to getting the star treatment. It goes totally to Alicia's head and she has to act like a great star while Lety tries to go back to being her old fea self. I really don't understand her doing that. I can understand not doing the whole glamour bit, but putting back on your braces and glasses and drawing on eyebrows. Come on! Anyone who had that big a transformation surely wouldn't try to go back to being so fea.
Marcia looks, sad to say, like a skinny version of the late, great Divine. She looked mighty strange.
But it could be amusing if she shows up and figures out the Lety/Aurora situation.
Fernando is very cute now. He is defending Lety openly and showing everyone how much he cares for her.
Marcia seems to be finally coming to grips with the reality of her loss (albeit in a bitter and vengeful way). As for Fern and Lety, I don't know if I'd call them fantasy-prone, but they've certainly got problems of their own too. ;-)
I too don't understand Lety switching back so fast to her fea look. I know it is what she is use to and feels more comfortable with, but, why draw on the eyebrows and mustache?
Also, her wardrobe has suddenly gone from bad to horrible.
I suppose it is to show the contrast between that and the new found glamor?
She has lost the beginning sophistication, (I'm remembering the black suit which I thought looked so nice).
Now Lety just looks large and sloppy.
Fernando who sees her through the eyes of true love thinks she is beautiful. I love how he defends her and thinks other women can't compare!
Carrie L.
K - I too thought the scene in Lety's office where Fern kept trying to get a good look at her was hysterical. I laughed so hard that my neighbor, who was working in her yard, had to come over to see what was so funny. (We finally had a nice enough night here in Minnesota that I could have the windows open for a bit.)
I can't wait to see how all of this unfolds.
- Michelle in Minnesota
Missed the episode but if Lety went back to her old clothes and face, I can imagine it's to try to feel "safe" again, not to mention that she's probably afraid of Robopop's reaction. After all, he was having a cow over her plucked eyebrows, can you imagine what he'd do if he knew Aurora is la niña ? YIKES!
At last, Lety is acting normal (for her) around Fernando. He is sooo sweet to her. I can't stand it!! I'm jealous.
Fer and Omar's scenes were funny. When Omar had the earring on, and Fer yelled at him "Mitzy, mitzy" - what did that mean? Omar immediately took off the earring.
The boys are back!
It was a good episode, lots of action, humor, very little Aldo; would have been better with some private time between Fer and Lety.
Things roll without Aldo. Does he have to come back?
4.5 pages and 10:20 pm is definitely a quickie on the Julie Scale, considering my usual Friday thing is closer to 10 pages and 3 am (and, to be honest, only a little bit better than what I did last night).
No one at Conceptos would recognize Lety as Aurora.
As for Alicia, what happened to her 6 semesters at a prestigious university......?
I don't think Marcia actually knows about the Mystery Woman yet, but if she's heard the name "Aurora" from Lety and then goes to the restaurant and sees Omar with Aurora, she might be able to figure it out.
Or, she might just get confused like everyone else. Either way, that episode's gonna be a keeper. :)
I didn't see any restaurant in the preview for tonight's episode, though, so maybe we'll have to endure another hour of filler (Aldo? Cuartel?) before we get to it.
My question is whether Alicia will cling to this new identity forever, or maybe get a job as a lounge singer, or will she eventually forget about it and go back to whining about the six semesters of finance.
What would really be nice is if Conceptos would cover her tuition to finish her degree. I could imagine Lety doing that for a good employee. But not for Alicia. ;)

Julie, thanks for the funny recap.

I didn't like that somewhat snotty look on Aldo's face when the lawyer/judge told him that effectively the Mendiroels can't make a decision without him.
I was amused during the Ariel fiasco when tomas ran off to get Fern who he hates rather than just picking up the phone and calling his"hermano" Aldo but I did like Fern/.Tomas and Omar dashing to the rescue.
So the spendthrift egomaniac quits AGAIN - Yawn. Like all the other I quit returnees he is sure to be back which might give "Aurora" a wonderful chance to stick it to him like she is sure to do to Omar.

Je!Je!Je!...Lety picking Omar's pockets an getting caught *LOL* that was classic.

K, how did you do the link? I know how to do them theoretically, but when I try to type them, I often find that the link doesn't actually work, even though I don't have any typos.
I've been up to my neck in an accreditation visit, but grabbing a few minutes to watch LFMB and check in here were very relaxing.
Ariel is not terribly smart if he thinks he can really pull off a hostile takeover. The next several weeks oughta be very interesting. (I do wonder, though, what makes me think anyone will even notice if he just walks in and takes over?)
