La Fea Más Bella #275 5/15/07 An absentee father, a romantic moment, and an anonymous author
Marcia stands outside the reception, looking distraught. Luigi approaches her to find out what is wrong. He jokes that she must be bored of the horrible wedding and came outside to purify her soul. Marcia agrees that the wedding is a horror, but that’s not the problem. Alicia married a man who loved her. The wounds that were so easily covered shed their band-aid for a moment. Marcia points out that Tomas didn’t leave Alicia two days before the wedding. Luigi tries to comfort her. Marcia tells him that she’ll never forget it. They embrace.
Back at the wedding everyone seems to be having a good time, especially Alicia. She toasts herself. Tomas tries to slow her “roll”, but Alicia says he should be drinking too. He needs to prepare for his surprise. What surprise? Tomas and I are left clueless. Alicia changes the subject and takes Tomas to dance. The crowd cheers them while Alicia stumbles around the dance floor. Tomama pulls Alicia aside and asks for the ever absent father-in-law. Alicia says that he’ll not be much longer. She walks away to toast with some friends.
Tomas walks over to his mother and scolds her for the scare she gave him back at the church. Tomama explains that she was thinking of what Topapa would have thought of Tomas marrying a divorced woman. Tomas thinks his father would have liked to see Tomas happy. The pair reminisce about Topapa. They dance. Everyone on the floor cheers them.
Outside, Omar gives a strange toast to Aurora. (To the woman who scorned him and made him the must unhappy of men.) Omar may be good at Carvajalmarks but I have to hope he’s never anyone’s best man. The toast was a wee bit of a downer, no? Caro either doesn’t care about that or didn’t hear the toast. She approaches Omar with a smile. He calls her his shadow which doesn’t go over all that well with her. She takes his hand and has him touch her face so that he can see that she is real, not a shadow. Omar agrees that she’s real. He’s the one who has ceased to exist. Caro strokes his face and tells Omar that he is real. Omar says that he only appears to be real. Caro kisses him just to make sure. Good move, Caro; good move! Yay, Besos! She pulls away and asks if that too is just an appearance. Omar apologizes and tells Caro that he can’t. Before he leaves he grasps her and thanks her. She lightly touches her lips when he leaves.
Omar walks into the door, and then Caro follows a few moments later. Caro walks over to Lety and says that she’s leaving. Caro explains that she’s tired. They say good-night to each other. Caro politely takes her leave of the rest of the table. Omar watches from his table with Fernando.
The moment has come! The bride will throw her bouquet. It’s like a madhouse on the dance floor. The only single woman who doesn’t want to go is Lety. Julieta and Aldo convince Lety to go. Erasmo encourages Julieta to go try too. Before the bouquet is even tossed, there’s a push and pull going on between Luigi and Sara. Next comes the slow-motion-for-effect-bouquet-toss. Continuing with the classic tossing of the bouquet storyline, it’s the girl who doesn’t want it that catches it. Lety seems unsure, but Fernando and Aldo both look thrilled. Julieta comments to Erasmo that soon there will be another wedding.
The garter toss comes next. There’s a part of me that really hopes that Lopez catches it, but I have a feeling it’s going to be between two certain galanes. Tomas only pulls up the dress a little and very delicately removes the garter belt from Alicia’s leg. There’s another slow motion throw. The garter lands right in the hands of Fernando Mendiola, who did not go up to the dance floor. The men surround and cheer him. Fernando appears to be much more impressed with himself then Lety did when she caught the bouquet. He leaves the reception and runs into Lety outside.
Lety notices that Fernando has the garter. He tries to explain that he got it by accident. Fernando tells Lety that catching the bouquet means that she will be getting married very soon with Aldo. Lety tries to interrupt, but Fernando tells her that he hopes she’ll be happy. Lety tells him that there’s been no talk of a wedding. Fernando asks her what it would be like if he and Lety had stayed together. Sometimes I feel bad for Juan Soler; they really give Jaime Camil all the making the heart go pitter-pat lines. “You caught the bouquet, and I caught the garter. I would marry you tomorrow, Lety.” Sigh. Fernando places the garter around the flowers. No one says anything. They just stare at one another.
Inside, Tomas gets to crowd surf. Aldo sits at his table and begins to wonder about Lety. Marcia and Alicia watch Tomas get tossed about. Marcia thinks that Alicia should go help her husband, but Alicia won’t do it. It was sacrifice enough to have to marry Tomas in the first place. Marcia lashes out at Alicia saying that one should get married for love. Alicia says this only happens in soap operas.
Lety begs Fernando to stop. He says that dreaming about their wedding costs nothing. Lety reminds him that it hurts. Fernando replies that sometimes life only leaves the option to suffer. Lety says she wants to see Fernando happy; not because she feels at fault but because she loves him. Fernando tells Lety that he cannot lie; that isn’t sufficient for him. Lety responds that he has to resign himself and that she’s sure… Aldo interrupts. Fernando quickly excuses himself. Lety tries to explain, but Aldo makes some cutting remarks about Lety spending so much time with Fernando lately. He understandably says that it’s difficult watching his girlfriend with her ex. Aldo knows how important Fernando is for Lety. Lety says yes he is; he’s her friend and her assistant at work. Aldo reminds Lety that Fernando is still in love with her. Lety responds by saying that she’s in love with him, Aldo. There’s a very brief kiss that’s just long enough for Fernando to watch from the background. Aldo pulls away and remarks that wedding atmosphere is contagious. Yes, like a sickness, Lety replies. They kiss again. These two really need a class about kissing.
A bunch of men waive a bunch of pesos in front of Tomas. They place the bills in Tomas’s tux, ears, his hair and wherever else they’ll fit. Marcia tries once again to get Alicia to go to help her man. Alicia doesn’t budge until she realizes that Tomas is being stuffed with money. She alights from her “throne” and comes down to check out her new mini fortune. Alicia is not pleased with the amount and tells the people to be more generous. You know your manners are bad when the cuartel scolds you. Tomas announces that they’ll use the money for a honeymoon. Alicia would like to go to Hawaii or Bora-Bora but Tomas thinks that Acapulco would be a better location.
Aldo’s outside with Lety trying to get her to say that it’s possible that they may get married. Lety tells him that he’s making her nervous. Thankfully, they go back to the reception.
The newlyweds sit at a table and count their new funds. It’s 13,000 pesos. The cuartel cheers the good luck. The good mood cannot last. A man comes over to the table and asks who’s going to pay the balance. Alicia jokingly scolds him for interrupting the wedding in order to receive a payment. Tomas tells the manager that Alicia paid for the entire thing. The manager corrects Tomas and says that he’s only received half of the payment. The manager asks Tomas to accompany him. Tomas nervously takes his leave. Alicia drunkenly proclaims that she doesn’t understand. She tells the manager that her father deposited the money for his half. The manager asks for the receipt, but Alicia doesn’t have one. Tomas gets mad and makes Alicia cry.
Back at the table the cuartel gossips about the scandal about the money. Sara interrupts everyone to remind them that Alicia’s father has never helped Alicia. He let her lose her car and her apartment.
Tomas has no choice. He gives the manager all of the money he received during the reception. The manger tells Tomas that it’s not enough. We never get to hear the exact amount due, but by the look on Tomas’s face I’m guessing it’s pretty high. Tomas reluctantly turns over his credit card to the manager. Alicia cries about her lost honeymoon.
There’s more gossip among the cuartel. Now they’re talking about the honeymoon. Saimon and PM talk about their trip to Acapulco next weekend.
Caro enters her house. She’s still upset about Omar.
Tomama sees Alicia and Tomas enter the room. She rushes to them and asks about what just happened. Tomas doesn’t blame it on his new wife. He blames the whole thing on his wife’s father. Tomama doesn’t seem to buy it so Alicia drunkenly shoves her. Tomama uses the opportunity to lecture Alicia about treating Tomas well. Luigi pulls Tomama aside and warns her to be careful with Alicia. Fernando comes up behind Luigi and greets Tomas. He also warns Tomasa to beware of Alicia. Omar just offers condolences. Irma watches this and tries to calm Tomama. Tomama rushes over to the newlyweds and says that this marriage will be terrible. Tomas assures her that he has the most important thing in his life now. His life will be full of happiness. Alicia changes the subject and says that it’s bad luck to start out without a honeymoon. Right at that moment PM and Saimon enter the scene. They tell the newlyweds that they gave a big gift for them. PM and Saimon give their trip to Acapulco to Tomas and Alicia. The Moras are very impactados. Everyone applauses. (Hopefully, Saimon and PM remember in the morning that they gave their trip away.) The reception ends with lots of applause and some fireworks.
Alicia and Tomas enter their hotel. Alicia drunkenly stumbles around the desk while the receptionist checks for the reservation. Before Tomas can sign for the room, Alicia falls asleep in his arms. Tomas has to drag his wife to the elevator. Methinks Tomas will not be getting any bella lovin’ tonight!
I love how Tomas carries Alicia over the threshold. He does it exactly like a caveman bringing home the meat! Seductive music plays. Tomas strips. (and I pray that someone will interrupt this scene) Tomas proclaims himself a wild animal. He growls and Alicia snores right back at him. Tomas sweet talks Alicia and kisses her feet. She thanks him by kicking him away. He climbs onto the bed to get some love, but she snores him right off. He tries making noise and jumping on the bed but it’s all to no avail.
It’s the next day and things are as normal at Conceptos. Fernando asks for the news, and Luigi begins to recite the morning broadcast. Fernando doesn’t want that information. He wants to know about the project! Luigi confirms that everything is ready for today. The only thing not ready is the director. Fernando clutches the script for the pilot episode. Luigi tries to take it from Fernando but gets smacked away. Luigi explains that he needs to study the script in order to direct, but Fernando won’t give it up. He says he’ll give it to Luigi ten minutes before. Luigi says he needs to know the writer. Fernando says that the writer is…people. Fernando asks if Luigi’s gotten a leading man. Luigi says that he’s talking to a lot of important actors. They’re all dying to work with Luigi!
In the Vortex Saimon and PM are back in full relationship swing. Irma congratulates them for what they did the night before. PM can’t believe that Alicia will be enjoying her (PM’s) trip. Juan reminds the women that they still have their dinner with Fernando Colunga. PM immediately perks up. Saimon can’t believe that she really wants to eat with that man. Martha’s just looking forward to eating a lot of food.
Fernando enters the vortex and imitates Saimon’s bad English. He asks for Lety. PM says that she’s here and that she’s in her office with her boyfriend. Fernando smacks her with the script. He drops it, but Saimon picks it up and hands it to Fernando. Fernando warns Saimon not to touch the script or to read it. Saimon assures Fernando that he would never read it.
Aldo’s in Lety’s office and he’s once again complaining about the amount of time Lety spends with Fernando. Fernando leans in between the pair and announces that he has something. He rushes into his office and then comes back to interrupt. Fernando presents the receipt for the deposit made to Aldo’s account for $3,250,000. That’s half of the debt! Aldo thanks Fernando. Fernando announces that from this moment he and Aldo are partners. Lety congratulates Fernando and mentions the presentation of the show to Jacks. Aldo says that he would like to see it, but Fernando continues insisting that no one can see it. Aldo excuses himself to go to his editor.
Lety tells Fernando that he really doesn’t need to be afraid. He replies that he just doesn’t want anyone to know that he wrote the script. He has to prove that he can get the company out of trouble and this is the way to do it. They realize that they’re sitting in their old chairs and immediately rush away to the correct places. Lety tries to tell herself that everything is okay.
Fernando stands in his office and kisses the script. Lety peeks in to make sure that he’ll have the pilot ready for tomorrow. Fernando assures her that it’s under control. He says he has to go see Omar. Apparently, some of Omar’s stupidities inspired Fernando. They awkwardly pass each other. Lety remains in Fernando’s office and touches the drawer. Fernando opens the door and looks at her. She assures him that she’s just making sure no one touches the script.
For once, a character actually goes where he says he will. Don’t the writers know that doesn’t happen in novelaland? Fernando pops into Omar’s office. He wants to know about the money from selling everything. Both Marcia and Omar explain to Fernando that they’re nervous about the upcoming presentation. Marcia has Fernando sit and asks him about the writer of the script. He won’t answer and tells her to have faith in him. She tells him not to be a fool. He’s the only one who’s worked on the pre-production. Omar corrects Marcia. Lety helped Fernando. Marcia and Omar continue to rub the salt in the wound. They have faith in Fernando, but he’s never produced a television show. Fernando defiantly says that this is personal and he needs to do this his way. Marcia and Omar warn Fernando about Luigi.
Lety and Caro are also discussing Fernando’s seemingly infamous script. Caro asks if Aurora will be part of the program. Lety assures Caro that Aurora is completely done. She’s disappeared for forever.
Luigi alights into the vortex screaming for his lagartija (small lizard) Fernando. It’s a code read. Luigi utters an Omar worthy scream which makes everyone come running. Fernando asks Luigi what’s wrong. Luigi tells Fernando that since he didn’t give Luigi the script, no actor will do the show. No actor will accept to do a show when he doesn’t know what he will be doing. Fernando says they can’t cancel the pilot. He, Fernando, will be the protagonist in the show!

Even though the show is choppy and rushed I'm thankful for all the Fern I can get! Hopefully he will be taking his shirt off for his new acting gig!!!!!!

PS, what is the name on the title page of what he's written?
My favorite part of the episode: Omar and Fernando dancing at the beginning. Especially when Fernando got on top of the table and started waving his napkin and swaying his hips. Also when Fernando gave Lety the garter.
I also loved Fern and Omar dancing at the beginning of the show.

Fern was adorable, with his tender words and with his jealous guarding of his script.
but he is so blindly in love that he probably doesn't care. Also he must know by now that Papi doesn't exist.

It does seem that Alicia was passed out from drinking too much because with her fake sleep she usually peeks out afterwards to see what's going on. Alicia's berating the wedding guests for not giving enough money was so over the top. The woman is totally clueless and self-absorbed. We better hope that Tomas stays madly in love with Alicia or his life is going to be awful.
I couldn't believe PM and Saimon gave away their trip to Acapulco. I guess the cuartel does have some redeeming qualities.
I'm starting to like Lety a bit more now. At least she is on Fernando's side and is being supportive of him. Also, I don't think Aurora is her final makeover. She has to have something in between the two extremes for her daily life.
I went in the other room after the wedding and had to come back after hearing my husband laughing, the giant Lety clothes the next day in the office..he thought that was quite amusing.
I loved when the scene where Fern put the garter on the bouquet. I was getting all mushy inside. I second that post that said Fern doesn't even have to talk to make a scene a dreamy or something. I know she really doesn't deserve him at this point but I want them together desperately.
beckster funny link, LOL.
fernando is so cute! and he's being really good natured in the face of aldo
Aldo is becoming a brat. it kills me whenever he says "Tranquilla..Tranquilla". He says it ALL the time. When fer and lety were outside talking and aldo interupted, HE told her to Tranquilla before she could open her mouth! he didnt know what she was going to say..
i know it's supposed to be a nice don't worry sentiment but the way he uses it sounds like a controlling 'shut up'
heheh maybe because i dont like him

As far as Aldo, as always I will defend him. I don't think he's the bad kisser of the duo, it's Lety. In case no one was checking her out, her lips remained in that stupid little-child pucker the entire time. No wonder he's all over her face, he's trying to get SOME kind of decent response from her. Yes, I think it's intentional, we're supposed to infer from it that she doesn't really love him, there's no real chemistry like there is when she kisses Fernando, etc., but that still doesn't make it fun to watch. I think if Aldo actually had a decent kissing partner, he'd be great (in fact I think he looks pretty darned good on La Otra!).
And for Fernando... sigh! Yes, he can make even these horrible, painful wedding sequences delicious!

Jaime Camil can turn a *nothing moment* into something funny, touching, romantic, you name it. He's a really good actor, and I'm not just saying that because of his handsome face, wrists, hands, arms, ankles, etc.

P.S. If Fernando placed that garter on my bouquet, we'd be at the Sheraton so fast, your head would spin.
It's time for Lety to quit doing the weird quirky stuff that makes her so unattractive. Her looks and dress are enough already.
I could see from the wedding dances that Lety and Tomas must have learned to dance from Tomama. Now it's all clear.
Fern's protectiveness was cute, but if he wasn't going to take credit for writing it, then what's the big deal about giving it to Luigi. The director needs to know the synopsis at least to get the actors and sets ready.
I wonder if Fern and Aurora are going to end up the leads and Fern will be Casanova and looking into Aurora's eyes and see that it's Lety...
Jewels - that's just the sort of thing I'm hoping for. I know it would be corny - but it IS a telenovela, isn't it?

Loved the Fern/Lety bouquet scene. Just great and what made us all fall in love with the show in the first place. Somehow they manage to convey so much conflicted emotion with just looks and body language, the words don't even matter.
Love the way the Caro/Omar story is progressing. Even she is a little confused and he is totally clueless. I just loved the way he watched her when she left the wedding instead rambling on about Aurora to anyone who would listen. When he finally wakes up and realizes that Caro is the one for him we should see some really great hot scenes if that apartment kiss was any indication.
And what on earth was with that huge jacket Lety was wearing. Nice color but it looked like she borrowed it from some NFL middle-linebacker. it was at least three sizes to big for her. I guess we have to continue to see her in all her grotesque finery until she finely gets made over into her real self.
I don't have any problem with the Omar Caro thing. She knows he is a womanizer but that is typical of his age and social class. He treats her differently, after she originally rebuffed a couple of his moves, she has become a friend to him. I don't think either one of them ever saw what is happening coming. She sees the wounded side of him and through all the easy words he uses to cover his feelings. Yes she is smart but then again he is hot. And we smart women aren't immune to handsome faces LOL
Diane
I was so annoyed that Aldo gave Lety a hard time about spending "so much time" working with Fernando on the script and yet, hello--How come we never got to see that?!
