Duelo de Pasiones, Thursday June 14 - Gaby makes a clever escape attempt and Soledad gets a call from Don Loco
(I have guests today, so if this recap isn't as detailed as it could be, my apologies.)
Alvaro choked Elias, who called repeatedly for the guards without getting any response. What a well-run prison! FINALLY three guards showed up and pulled Don Loco off Elias. (But really, what did Elias expect when he showed up there for no apparent reason except to taunt Mr. Loco?)
Don Loco shouted that Soledad was his, all his! Elias shouted back, "I love Soledad, and you are a criminal! I love Soledad, understand?"
After Loverboy Elias left with his new bruises, Don Loco noticed that Elias had dropped something -- at first I thought it was a checkbook, but it later turned out to be an address book. Surreptitiously Alvaro picked it up.
At General Ochoa's office: Alina tried to calm the upset Rodrigo, saying she would help him search for Gaby. He cried and said he was afraid Gaby had been kidnapped and was being mistreated. "If my daughter dies, it will kill me."
Meanwhile, Crazy Thelma dragged Gaby onto an amusement park ride. Thelma grinned and looked excited while Gaby grimaced. I would grimace, too -- it was a scary rollercoaster thing. And after the ride was over, Thelma forced Gaby to go on it again.
Finally Thelma let Gaby off the ride but started shaking her and saying, "You will do what I say! You have to tell your papa to marry Alina and leave Puebla!" She warned Gaby not to tell anyone what she'd said, saying she could do much worse things to Gaby.
Meanwhile, Claudia was telling Rosendo (the mean guy she lives with) that she had a right to have friends, too. He grabbed her violently and said, "Embrace me!" Claudia yelled no and tried to fight him off, saying she would tell her mother.
She managed to get away from him and locked herself in her room, then told herself she didn't want to cause problems between Mom and her husband. (Aha, so that's who Rosendo is -- her stepfather.)
At a bus station: Alfonsina and Hugo separated for a while. Hugo told himself if Alfonsina didn't have the mysterious cofre, the witch must still have it.
He went to some guy and asked him to make a duplicate of the cofre. He described it carefully and said he wanted it look old. The guy asked when he wanted it, and Hugo said as soon as possible.
Emilio visited Soledad and they had a conversation that I missed. When he left, Coral chased after him and told him, "Alina accepted Rodrigo's proposal without loving him. She still loves you."
"I knew it," said Emilio. "Now more than ever I'm going to fight for her." He thanked Coral, gave her a little kiss, and left.
Frank told Orlando he was going to be freed because of his "heroic rescue" of the soldiers from the gas-filled kitchen. Orlando cackled to himself, "At last I am free," then, as usual, gloated that he would tell Emilio about Thelma and Gaspar. (Later he gloated the same thing all over again, but let's skip that because it's getting boring.)
While talking with Angel, Emilio heard on his military radio that Rodrigo's daughter had disappeared. He went to the general's office and offered to help with the search. (I don't know why he did that because he seemed to forget all about it as soon as he left the office.)
Thelma and Gaby were now having lunch; well, actually, Thelma was enjoying a big hamburger and fries while Gaby sat and watched and whined that she was hungry, too.
Thelma said Gaby could eat if she repeated what Thelma had told her to say. Gaby parroted that she would tell Rodrigo to marry Alina and leave town. Thelma gave Gaby one French fry, then laughed and said, "And the rest for me." Oh yes, she'll make a great mother.
Back at the jail (where Thelma will hopefully end up): Don Loco looked in Elias's address book -- apparently looking up Soledad's phone number -- then told himself Soledad would always be with him, for better or worse. He started yelling to the guards, "Let me out of here! I'm going crazy!"
Meanwhile, Aida (aka Doctor Loca) was having an argument with Don Loco's lawyer, Mauro. I'm not sure but I think he was pressuring her to have Alvaro declared insane. She was refusing to alter her diagnosis to suit him.
Mauro told Dr. Loca he knew all about "the attraction you and Alvaro feel for each other," and warned that she could lose her license for getting involved with a patient. Dr. Loca ordered him out of her office. As he left, he told her she should reconsider her opinion, saying threateningly, "You are young."
At the Valtierra mansion: Angel mused that he was in love again, and he was feeling healthier these days, but his life was still in danger so he would have to forget Claudia forever. (Yawn. You're cute, Angel, but I don't like you anymore; you've gotten so wimpy that even I can't overlook it. Why don't you go cough all over some other show?)
Alina went to Rodrigo's house and comforted the crying Tina. Tina gave Alina some photos of Gaby, and they went out to join the search for her.
Elsewhere, Emilio visited some guy and was told he should be looking for a man named Rosendo Luna. I guess this had something to do with Emilio's new military assignment. Sorry, I didn't follow this scene very well, but I'm sure it will turn out to be the same Rosendo who's making Claudia's life hell. What a coincidence!
Meanwhile Thelma -- with Gaby still in her car -- returned to the school and saw Alina outside with Tina. Thelma closed the car window and sped away.
Gaby said she had to go to the bathroom. Reluctantly Thelma agreed, but said she had a gun and would shoot Gaby if she tried to escape. She took Gaby to a public restroom and pushed her into a stall.
While Thelma very loudly blew her nose (how ladylike), Gaby slipped into another stall. Smart girl. Finally someone on this show uses her brain!
Thelma finished snorting, looked around, and said, "Are you done yet?" She looked into Gaby's stall and found it empty. "Where are you?"
She looked under the door of the stall where Gaby was hiding but didn't see her, then announced, "Surely she escaped. I'm going to look for her."
But no, she only pretended to leave, then waited for Gaby to emerge from the stall. She grabbed the poor kid and dragged her out of the restroom. (Oh well, at least Gaby tried. I bet Don Loco couldn't make HER live in a cave for two years.)
At Angel's doctor's office: The doctor told Angel he wasn't going to die. The experimental treatment worked. Angel was cured!
At the hospital: Luba sobbed over Gaspar's bed, begging him to speak to her. The wrestling manager guy said he would try to find a kidney donor. He also offered to find a hotel for Luba, but she refused, saying she would rather sleep in the street to be near Gaspar.
Mariana and Dr. Love walked past Gaspar's bed on their way to see the burned Malena. Later Mariana told Dr. Love she was going to get some tea.
When Mariana was gone, Dr. Love heard Luba crying over Gaspar. He went over and asked if he could get her anything. I guess he never ran into Luba in Sierra Escondida, because they didn't recognize each other. He told her he was a doctor, and Luba begged him for help.
She told him Gaspar needed a kidney transplant. Dr. Love comforted her and said he would talk to his colleagues in Mexico City about finding a donor. Luba tearfully told him the Virgin of Peace would repay him.
(What a great guy Dr. Love is. He was so kind to Luba. I take back everything I ever thought about his bow ties.)
In Dr. Loca's office: Apparently Don Loco only pretended to go crazy so he could visit Dr. Loca. She complained to him about Mauro's threats. Alvaro protested that he knew nothing about it and said Mauro was an idiot. Dr. Loca said she couldn't trust Don Loco because he told Mauro what had happened between them. Don Loco again protested his innocence, and declared that he would knock out Mauro's teeth.
Dr. Loca said, "I've made a decision, and I think it's best for us both. I think I'll abandon your case." She wept a little and said her career was in danger.
Don Loco promised he wouldn't let Mauro do anything to her. Dr. Loca whimpered, "You promise?" Alvaro assured her that he hated traitors. Her glimmer of sanity already extinguished, Dr. Loca agreed to stay on his case.
The very trustworthy Don Loco then faked illness, pretending to be in great pain, and the very gullible Aida raced away to get help. As soon as she was gone, Don Loco went to her phone and, yes, called Soledad, who was at Coral's Boutique.
When Soledad answered, Don Loco said, "How are you, my love? Did you think I'd forget you?" I think he told her to leave Elias.
Soledad asked, "Are you crazy?" Don Loco agreed, "Yes, I am crazy. Don't forget you are mine, mine. I'm leaving here and coming for you."
Alarmed, Soledad hung up and told Coral she was sure Don Loco would come and find her, just as he'd said. Coral told her they would take precautions and everything would be OK. Alina arrived and told them Gaby had disappeared.
Meanwhile, Duhmilio (it just feels right to call him that) went to what looked like a pool hall and asked for Rosendo Luna. The pool hall guy said he didn't know Rosendo. Duhmilio sat down at a table. Some men glared at him.
Later, at night, as Duhmilio was leaving the pool hall, the men approached him. He said something about finding Rosendo. They strong-armed him and started walking him somewhere.
Duhmilio, of course, got into a fist fight with them, and as always, he lost. Someone pulled a gun, and I think Duhmilio got hold of it for a moment, but he ended up on the ground with the men kicking him.
At Rodrigo's house: Tina got a phone call from someone who said a girl's body had been found. She called Rodrigo, who was at Alina's house, and gave him the bad news. Clutching Alina, Rodrigo yelled, "No! Why, why, why!"
Thelma went home and found Singing Aunt holding Baby Emilio. She told SA she was tired and wanted a bath. After she left the room, SA said, "Little secrets from me? No, Thelmita. Where have you been?" She looked in Thelma's purse and found Gaby's hair ribbon.
Outside Claudia's house: Angel heard Claudia and her mother arguing in the street. Claudia tried to tell her mother about Rosendo's behavior, but her mother didn't believe her.
At the end of the show, Rodrigo went to a morgue with Alina. A covered corpse was wheeled out (it looked too big to be Gaby) and Alina lifted the sheet and looked at its face. Appearing upset, she paused dramatically and made Rodrigo wait for tomorrow's episode to hear whether it was his daughter. Not very considerate of her!
In a preview scene from the next episode, Dr. Loca tells Don Loco the DNA test proves Alina is his daughter. Let's see him deny his way out of that one!

Hey, Carmel, thanks for the great recap! I agree, that has to be the same Rosendo. But I don’t understand any more than you do why he had to go see Vargas when he’s supposed to be hunting for Gaby. I wasn’t paying enough attention.

I thought Dr. Ricardo’s reaction to Luba’s herbal remedy for Malena’s burns was amusing, “Oh, that sounds interesting.” That’s what my mother always says about a food she’s trying and the jury’s out—“Interesting.” She won’t commit.

I'm not sure but I thought Emilio paid a visit to Vargas so he could get potential leads for Gaby's disappearance/abduction. Vargas mentioned something about a child trafficking ring, didn't he?
Hoping the deranged writers of this show didn't kill off Gaby! If that's her underneath the sheet, Duelo has hit a new low.

The corpse under that sheet looked like a full grown MAN. Good grief.
So that's how Thelma's going to end up out of Gaspar and Mihijo's life. Getting thrown in the slammer! Killing Jose--even in that round-about way--was horrible. With Mihijo and now Gaby, she can add malicious child endangerment, torture, and abuse to her resume. What a bee-yatch.

Hot-dang. Maybe Orlando will actually be worth putting up with after all this time! (if he busts Thelma's game wide open by telling Emilio about Mihijo) Let us hope.

Carmel, fantastic recap (as usual). My favorite was your diatribe against Angel. No kidding, that boy is a major whiner! .
Those Valtierra boys have a lot to learn about the ladies. They are major wet blankets. I miss Uncle Maximo even though he was evil.
Also, Emilio has a short memory. He forgot about rescuing Gaby about as fast as he forgot to 'fight fair' with Rodrigo. Jerk.
Someone commented that Rodrigo is also a singer (from Garibaldi). Maybe he and Emilio should have a sing-off.

i must say that the kidnapping of Gaby has to be the stupidest kidnapping in all of television history. Who takes a kid you just kidnapped to a carnival for forced rides?? I was impactado when Gaby nicely handed her shoes to the worker so they wouldn't fall off when she was on the scary ride -- couldn't she have said, "here are my shoes so they don't boink anyone, and, oh, btw, this woman has kidnapped me." And she had about 9 million chances to speak up while she was dragged from the joy rides to the french fry torture. Plus, those two dingbats didn't wear seat belts in the car -- who do they think they are? The joint governors of NJ??? Sputter, sputter.
Thelma also gets a TV History award for most disgusting nose blowing job -- she honks into the paper towels full force multiple times and then throws the paper towel on the counter -- add litter bug to her resume. Gross.
The Loco/Loca storyline is too creepy to even comment on. Cindy

I also saw somebody say that Rodrigo is the ex-husband of Paty Manterola - mmmmm Paty Manterola. But I digress. Great recap for having been done under duress. There is no way in hell that the body is Gaby's, Thelma's whole plan is to send her back to get her dad to marry Alina and move away. Having her killed serves no purpose. How convenient it would be if Claudia's evil stepfather turns out to be part of a slave ring and gets put away, then Angel gets his happy ending. The one thing that is still keeping me really interested is finding out who will be a match, which in novela-land means a relative, for Gaspar and his kidney. There has to be some Don Loco connection there, there HAS to be.

Considering how much blood has been sucked out for testing it raises and interesting point about Loco's birth being the big secret in the damn cofre. Wouldn't that be a pistol. And surely DL is not going to survive to the end if there is any justices and in novelas there is always justice. Two kidneys coming up!

Ah yes Rodrigo was married to the luscious Patty M for five years. I remember seeing pictures of their wedding and parts of it on TV when i lived in Mexico.

Maybe DL is Luba's brother (I think someone speculated that once) and Alina's aunt. Maybe Alina is a donor. Wouldn't that be weird.

Well, if I paid attention, I would have noticed that someone DID speculate that --Anon 1:08 said they could be siblings. Time to go clear my head (still "full" due to pharyngitis and congestion, but at least I am getting some voice back and can swallow today.) DUH. I'm gonna have to get my game in order for tonight.

The Emilio thing was a bit complicated and was dragged out over 2 episodes. For Emilio's punishment for fighting, he was supposed to be assigned to the sticks for some new operativo. When the kidnapping happened, he rushed over to Ochoa's office to volunteer.
Ochoa, smart guy that he is thought that although it would be a nice gesture for Emilio to do this, he also was savvy to the fact that Emilio is just looking for any excuse for to hang around Puebla trying to get Alina back. So he demanded that Emilio give him an explanation on the spot for what he was going to add to the search. Emilio impressed him by already having a plan--to look up some known members of a gang which traffic in children. He identified this Rosendo guy as a likely suspect and his idea was to conduct his own investigation as well as hook up with civilian authorities to share info and cooperate. He went to see Vargas because Vargas apparenently something like the district attorney would be here in the US--he'd be informed of any important ongoing investigations. Vargas has been a little reluctant to help out because they are already organizing a case against this Rosendo guy and they don't want Emilio and his military friends stomping all over it and tipping off these scum.
So Claudia's step dad isn't only a sex offender within the family but also a kind of kingpin of child abduction and trafficking. Niiiice.

Even though I don't like what it might have represented, I like the bit with that guy zipping up when he answers the door, just because it was subtle. Nothing in these shows is subtle, so if that were to really mean something, good for the writers for not beating us over the head for once. If it was just the guy zipping up his costume and novelas being too cheap and in a hurry to reshoot, then I guess it is just one of those funny things.
Oh and Jeanne I don't have any doubt that you'll be on your game for tonight's recap, just look at the quickie you threw together the other day. That didn't look unplanned at all.

I'm thinking Don Loco will turn out to be Gaspar's brother and thus Gaspar will get a Loco kidney, probably after Don Loco is already brain dead, just like Cesar donating his heart to Julio in Heridas de Amor.
Luba's husband once accused her of cheating on him (in a flashback), so maybe Alvaro's father was also Gaspar's father! Or somehow Luba could be Don Loco's mother... she knew the late Mrs. Loco, so maybe they worked out some kind of deal to provide a Loco heir.

I have missed this site and everyone so much. I just got back from an unplanned trip to Mexico, and could not access the internet. I had to get on here first thing and say hi to everyone. Ihave a lot of catching up to do on episodes as I have not been able to watch it. I love my dvr so I will be all caught up by the weekend and look forward to being back.

I am much better in Spanish to English than the other way around. I think to be fluent, you really need both and I just don't get much speaking practice. It is really amazing what these shows can do in exercising your listening skills

I thought the pirate novela would be on after Duelo left. Or is it too soon? Or is it going to be on Telemundo, not Univision? I'm so confused these days, trying to keep up with 6 novelas.
I've never seen Alborada, but so many of you loved it, I wish they'd rerun it. I don't know if the dvd version is worth watching because it's so edited. Is it?

Having Ana Martin in ''Duelo'' and ''Destilando'' is getting me a little confused and making me a little bit crazy. Speaking of crazy, Thelma has finally lost it....terror by amusement park rides....''You'd better listen to me , kid...there's a Tilt-a-Whirl near by...don't make me use it. And, NOW, I'm getting a candy apple and some cotton candy and...you csn't have any ...hahahahaha'' Whoever thought up this particular storyline should be forced to give back a portion of his/her paycheck. Whacko....By the way, do you think that we'll ever see THE COFRE again, or have the writers not figured out what is in it yet and are hoping that we've forgotten about it ? What a long and winding road this novela has become.

The amusement ride thing was a little surreal, although from what I've read, the first thing that a kidnapper wants to do is break the will of a victim, usually by witholding food and disorienting them. We saw the food thing and I can't think of a better way to disorient somebody than by taking them on an amusement ride multiple times. The only thing that seemed unrealistic was that she was making her ride the ride over and over when she clearly didn't want to. I can't imagine that someone, even the ride operator wouldn't step in.

Another two thumbs up for Alborada. I re-watched the DVDs with my sis (and her guy) and they loved it. They're also looking forward to PIRATES!!!! Susanlynn, did you check out the telenovela-world Alborada forum? There are some great shots of FC as a pirate in a post dated 6/15. It's great to be in love again.

Sylvia^^^ I am currently revisiting the Wonderful World of Alborada...it is a great spirit booster. After my dad died, I was watching Highlander the TVseries a lot...another great escape from reality . Hub does not like rewatching Alborada over and over [''Porque'', say I !!!], but he has been known to make comments as he is walking through the room, such as, ''That is one crazy *****.'' or ''That was a good punch.'' or ''Is that guy doing what I think he's doing?'' or ''Ewwww, that guy is throwing up.'' or ''Ouch, that must have hurt.'' It just never gets old. I will check out the site you mentionned. Thanks for the info . I am getting very frustrated waiting to see Fernandito as a PIRATE. I went to see the new ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' , but Johnny just holds NO attraction for me. I want to see a REAL fake pirate...Fernando with a bandana.^^^Hugs

Sylvia~~~Thanks so much for that site. I am having a little trouble getting the English translations sometimes , but I really enjoyed the trailer and the 3 great photos of Pirate Fernando. I'm sure that this is a difficult undertaking with all the ships. It looks like it is being filmed in Colombia and that Susana Gonzales is now in it ..replacing Adela??? How can Thelma even think for a second that she's a classy lady? Never was, never will be... The nose-blowing scene just confirmed it. I think she even stuck her finger in her nose after blowing it. So now we had Gaspar, then Máximo, and finally Thelma getting some nose picking action. Ew!
Yeah, those Valtierra boys just don't have it. Uncle Máximo was another story, even Santos had more hot blood in him than his cousins. Are they ever going to show him and Rosita again or did they officially get written out of the show?
Alborada was good, but I don't really consider it one of my favorites. Now, Amor Real, that's a totally different story. I loved AR. Corazon Salvaje was also a favorite---- the 1994 version, not the 2009 one.
