Juan Q 8/7 Juan gets a little cheeky
Paula’s not happy about CL’s wife calling. She thinks it’s weird that Monica’s at home waiting to eat with him. He explains that it’s just out of custom. Plus, Monica needs time for the non-existent divorce and all. Poor, poor Monica. Paula asks CL if Monica knows about what’s going on in his life. Paula accepts his silence as the answer. CL spits out that he hasn’t found the right moment to tell Monica about Paula. Paula urges him to hurry up and find that moment.
Alirio begs Nidia to leave the Davila’s in peace. She explains that she doesn’t want to invite them to the wedding out of malice. After speaking with Ana, she doesn’t think they’re bad people. Alirio can’t believe newfound affection goes as far as inviting las Davila’s to the wedding.
Juan’s offended and he scolds Mareli. She points out that he’s not answering the question. She just wants to know if he’s gay. I’m guessing the bright green shirt isn’t helping his cause. Juan says that he’s not gay and he points out that he’s not effeminate. Mareli doesn’t think that not being effeminate means anything. Juan responds by saying that he definitely he is not gay. Juan says that he’s bothered that people think he’s something that he’s not. Mareli points to Juan’s relationship with Pastor. Juan replies that this doesn’t mean that he’s the same as Pastor. Mareli asks Juan why he tolerates Pastor. I wonder the same thing, considering that CL, the BOSS, seems to have a mad man crush on Juan. CL needs his spy; I’m sure Juan’s job is perfectly safe.
CL tells Paula that if it’s so important he’ll tell Monica tonight. He wants to maneuver the topic away from Monica, but Paula disagrees. Monica is a problem at the center of their relationship. CL says that Monica’s unpredictable (impredecible) and he doesn’t know how’ll she’ll take the news. She’ll probably faint, CL. Monica does that, a-l-o-t. Paula falls for it, again, and says that if it’s that important to him then not to tell Monica. CL looks Paula in the eye and in the sleaziest way possible tells her that he never wants to lose the magic of this moment. Personally, I think this moment sucked for them both, but if that’s his idea of a great memory…then go for it, CL!
Nidia explains to Alirio that the Davila’s are family. Paula’s the girls’ half sister and Mareli’s boss. The should be present for an important family occasion. Alirio reminds Nidia that Ana is the one who stole Samuel. Nidia doesn’t think anything will please Alirio. Alirio says he just thought he wouldn’t live to see the day. Nidia replies that it’s happening and that’s it.
Juan explains to Mareli that he’s very grateful to Pastor. Pastor gave Juan that job and Pastor is the head of human resources. Juan has to be very careful with Pastor. Mareli asks if Juan’s serious that nothing is going on with Pastor. Juan replies that there is nothing with Pastor or any other man. He asks Mareli how he can demonstrate that to her. She says that he doesn’t need to do anything; she believes him. Her smile doesn’t make me, or Juan, very sure.
Alirio doesn’t think it’s a good idea considering the whole issue of the will. Nidia responds that she’s a good person, but not an idiot. One thing is one thing and another is something else entirely. (That sounds a lot better in Spanish!)
Pastor once again laments the comings, goings and doings of Juan Dominguez. Yvonne is just plain tired of hearing it. Pastor looks for drama. Pastor asks if Yvonne knows something. She replies that she saw Juan leaving, and he didn’t look as sad as Pastor thinks Juan was. Pastor asks for complete information. Yvonne tells Pastor that Juan left with Mareli.
Juan thought bubbles to himself that he can tell that Mareli said she believed him only to avoid problems. He decides that he needs to do something quickly to prove himself.
Pastor confuses Yvonne of meddling in his affairs with Juan. He’s noticed that Yvonne’s had her eye on Juan since the day he arrived. He accuses Yvonne of always wanting men who belong to someone else; in this case it’s Juan. Yvonne replies that Pastor needs to stop being such a geek (sonso) and open his eyes because Juan’s playing dirty. Pastor won’t hear it and he throws Yvonne from his office.
Now that she and CL are done with lunch, Paula wants to return to the office. She worries because there’s a lot of work to be done and people will star talking if they notice that both she and CL are gone all afternoon. CL insists that she accompany him some place where he can make her an offer. She agrees to go.
Mareli thanks Juan for the food, the company and for answering her questions. He says it was no problem; he wanted to resolve all doubts. They take their leave. Juan thought bubbles to himself and wonders if he should stay or leave. He resolves that Paula is a decent woman and that she’ll return. When she does; she’ll need him. He sadly thinks that the love of his life is about to fall into the arms of another.
CL’s brought Paula to the love nest. She wants to know why. She wants to know if his proposal includes a bed. He replies that it will only if she wants it.
Pastor immediately accosts Mareli the instant she walks into the lobby. He asks her to come to his office. Yvonne looks on, a knowing look spreading across her face.
CL explains to Paula that his proposal is for her to live in this apartment. Paula wants to know how he knows she’ll accept. He replies that he knows that she needs it. He doesn’t want her to live with him; he only wants to offer the apartment. She notes that it’s odd that he has a house and an unoccupied apartment. He explains that it’s for foreign business associates. Paula says that she cannot accept. He thinks she should use it as a temporary solution while she looks for her own apartment. She’s the woman that he loves and he’s worried about her. She accepts. He says they need to go to the supermarket first to fill the empty refrigerator.
Pastor explains to Mareli that he’s going to touch on a sensitive subject. She tells him not to worry; she’s an open book. He replies that he wants to talk about her private life. Now Mareli’s worried. Pastor asks Mareli about the nature of her relationship with Juan. Mareli’s a little incredulous. She wants to know why Pastor asked this question. He gets upset and tells her just to say yes or no. Are she and Juan a couple?
CL and Paula exit the apartment building. CL goes to Fernando and dismisses him for the day. CL returns to Paula and says that they should go to the supermarket; there’s one close by. She asks CL how he knew that. He said that was one of the factors for buying the apartment. He liked the location and everything necessary to live is close. They leave for the local market.
Mareli answers Pastor by saying that she didn’t realize that he wanted to get that personal. Pastor repeats his question. Mareli says that has nothing to do with her work. Pastor pulls out the relationships-between-employees-is-forbidden card. Mareli thinks this is an ancient rule, that’s out of date. Pastor doesn’t want to debate that; he wants an answer. He says that her lack of an answer must be an affirmation. Mareli replies that it’s really the opposite. There’s nothing between her and Juan. Pastor begs Mareli to tell him that she’s sure. Mareli once again says that Juan is not her type. Mareli takes her leave of a gleeful Pastor.
We’re treated to another Paula-CL montage. They didn’t go psychedelic this time. Oh no, they went retro. They scratched the film to make it look like old home movies. How sweet. Not! Is that Wal-Mart?
Juan sees that Fernando returns to the garage alone and he loses hope. Fernando wants to know why Juan is still there. Juan explains that he’s waiting. He demands to know where Paula is. Fernando looks worried that Juan might just eat him.
CL says that when he said he would take Paula to the supermarket, he didn’t know she would take it so seriously. Paula replies that she only got what was necessary. CL pulls out a bottle of wine and asks if she really only got the necessities. Paula asks him if he’s every shopped at the supermarket before. He replies that he has not, but he liked the experience (because of the company). They start to make out. She wants to put the groceries away first, but he has other things on his mind. She slowly gives in to him.
Juan again demands to know Paula’s whereabouts and with who. Fernando says that she’s with her boss. Juan says that Paula’s in danger. He pulls at Fernando’s collar. Fernando tells Juan that Paula’s in CL’s “lion’s den”. Fernando tells Juan that he feels sorry for Juan, but there’s nothing that they can do.
CL and Paula bask in the after sex moments. She doesn’t understand how he can always get her to do anything. He points out that they both just did something. She tells him that she went to Taxco thinking nothing would happen, but she returned in love. He asks if she regrets what happened. She replies that she does not. She tells him that she’s in love with him all the way to the spine. They start to make out again.
Fernando explains CL’s game to Juan. Juan’s obviously bothered. Fernando tells Juan not to think about it because he’ll go crazy. Juan gets on the bus and though bubbles that Paula can’t possibly become one of these women. He goes to her hotel, certain that she returned. At the reception desk, he comes up with a plan.
CL’s phone rings; it’s Monica. Paula insists that he answers. Has he already been caught?
Paula again insists that he answer or throw the phone out of the window. He haughtily answers the phone. Monica wants to know where he is. He says that he’s at one of the business’s properties, a grocery store. Monica asks him to stop at the pharmacy for her. She notes the frustration in his voice and asks if she’s interrupting something. He says that he’s in a meeting, but she should say what she needs. Paula puts on his shirt and stomps out of the room.
Juan goes to Ana’s house and offers her some bread. She asks him if he needs something. No, he just felt like coming over. She tells him to take a seat.
Kike’s trying to win over Yadira, but she doesn’t want him. He pretends to kiss her hello, but answers her “what do you want” by explaining that he was looking for Juan. She replies that Juan is not in the house. Kike asks if he may wait. Yadira says that Kike may, but that he will do so alone. Before she can leave, he asks how she is. She says that she’s fine and yells at him not to treat her like a sick person.
Ana and Juan sit in the living room, in silence. He finally asks how she is. She curiously says that she’s fine. More silence. He asks if there’s anything else. She says that she’s waiting for a job. He replies that jobs are very important. They share some more small talk and some silence. Finally, Ana asks if something’s wrong with Juan. He says that he just had a free afternoon and wanted to visit. Ana asks why his afternoon is free. Juan says that Paula had to do some things with CL. He then asks if Paula has, by chance, passed by the house. Ana says that Paula has not. Juan excuses himself for coming over and interrupting her. She says that she was just going to paint. Juan asks if he can help her with anything. She thinks for a moment and then says that he can. He says he’ll do whatever she wants. She happily smiles.
CL and Paula stand at opposite sides of the room. I’m not sure which is further, the emotional distance between them or the physical distance across the room. She’s making coffee. He notes that she’s upset about Monica’s phone call. She replies that of course she isn’t; can’t he see her smiling? She does come clean and say that she’s not accustomed to lies. It’s just not in her nature.
Ana reluctantly tries to explain to Juan what she needs. It’s not that he needs to do anything. Well, he does need to do something. She’s a painter and she’s become interested in the human form. Juan comments that he admires painters; he would be enchanted to help her. She asks him to be her model. He’s thrilled and starts to pose. She’s less interested in the pose. She’s interested in his body. She points out his body that he has under his clothes. She finally says that she wants to do a nude painting. Juan has to cover himself and nervously looks at Ana. I think the writer who came up with this storyline deserves a prize! A painting of Juan in nothing but his botas, ay ay ay!
CL and Paula have another boring fight. He once again doesn’t want to hurt Monica by talking about Paula. He guilt trips Paula into a false understanding. She doesn’t want to be together if they have to hide. CL says they don’t have to hide; they just have to be prudent. He begs her to be patient.
Juan asks if he really has to be dressed like he was when he entered the world. Ana replies that nude paintings are generally of naked people. He asks if he has to take off his boots. Noo!!!!! She says that he has to take off everything. He complains, but she begs; it’s for the love of art.
Juan goes into the bedroom and dances to his good luck. Seriously, my TV just went out. Can anyone fill in this scene?
Okay, my TV’s back online. Nidia and Kike are talking about food. I missed the beginning so I think he’s just talking about her good food.
Juan comes down the stairs in a white towel, his boots and his handkerchief. Thank you, Lord, for making my TV fix itself! I was wrong; this writer doesn’t deserve an award. She deserves a freaking Oscar and an Emmy, a Golden Globe and the biggest People’s Choice award there is! Juan tells Ana that he’s ready. She comments that he has a nice body. She tells him to take off his boots. He complies; we’re down to a towel, ladies! She directs him to sit down. He asks about his pose. She directs him to go sit by the wall. He does some poses for her. She tells her to lay down, but not like he’s sleeping. That towel is just scandalous! After she poses him, she says that he’s perfect and to get rid of the towel. He asks if it’s really necessary for her to paint his naught bits. She insists that he take off the towel. I bet Juan never, never considered this when he came over to the Davila house that afternoon! Ana tells Juan that they won’t be the first naughty bits that she’s seen, so he can just go ahead and take off the towel. He complies. We get a shot of Juan behind some lovely flowers. Ana looks at him and from the expression on her face we can guess that his naughty bits aren’t so itty-bitty.
Tomorrow:
Paula gets a view of what she's missing.
Labels: Juan
“Plus, Monica needs time for the non-existent divorce and all.” Do I see your tongue in your cheek? (Not to play fast and loose with your title, though, which is brilliant). I ache for Monica, too, though. Poor girl. She seems so solid, so nice. Paula is, too. Why are they both drawn to the same slimeball?
“CL spits out that he hasn’t found the right moment to tell Monica about Paula. Paula urges him to hurry up and find that moment.” I was sitting here in my hotel eating a microwave dinner yelling at Paula to hurry up and figure out CL’s lies.
“She just wants to know if he’s gay. I’m guessing the bright green shirt isn’t helping his cause” LOL!!!! While we’re at it, his bright orange, pink and yellow ones don’t help, either.
“I wonder the same thing, considering that CL, the BOSS, seems to have a mad man crush on Juan. CL needs his spy; I’m sure Juan’s job is perfectly safe.” I’ve wondered the same thing. Apparently Juan doesn’t think in these terms. He’s been in the boondocks too long.
“CL looks Paula in the eye and in the sleaziest way possible tells her that he never wants to lose the magic of this moment. Personally, I think this moment sucked for them both, but if that’s his idea of a great memory…then go for it, CL!” An even more relevant question is, why is Paula going for it? She’s waaaay smarter than CL. He’s just a pretty face with way too much hair on his chest. (One woman’s opinion).
“One thing is one thing and another is something else entirely. (That sounds a lot better in Spanish!)” I was pretty sure it did. When I heard it, my head was spinning. I just figured, “that’s him.“ (Alirio) Thanks for confirming.
“Mareli says that has nothing to do with her work. Pastor pulls out the relationships-between-employees-is-forbidden card. Mareli thinks this is an ancient rule, that’s out of date. Pastor doesn’t want to debate that; he wants an answer.” Tsk, Pastor. That means YOU can’t have a relationship with Juan. Right? What a shame that Marely didn’t point that out to you. It could happen in another episode, though.
“We’re treated to another Paula-CL montage. They didn’t go psychedelic this time. Oh no, they went retro. They scratched the film to make it look like old home movies. How sweet. Not! Is that Wal-Mart?” ROTFLLLL!!!! Amanda, such genius! You really missed your calling if you’re not a writer. Or a stand-up comedienne.
“I think the writer who came up with this storyline deserves a prize! A painting of Juan in nothing but his botas, ay ay ay!” ROTFLLLLL!! Well-said, amiga!
The fill-in: Juan takes off his clothes, carefully, and you missed one of the greatest stripteases of all times. Are you sure your local cable company didn’t censor you? Before the boxers (red, with hearts, I think) come off, he puts a towel on so we are totally titillated (has a ring to it, doesn’t it?). He’s left with the towel, his socks and botitas. He takes a lovely photo of Paula from the dresser and flops onto the bed, belly down, with it in his hand. He kisses the photo. That’s all I remember. What I’ll remember for the rest of my life is the prep to be a model.
“Thank you, Lord, for making my TV fix itself! I was wrong; this writer doesn’t deserve an award. She deserves a freaking Oscar and an Emmy, a Golden Globe and the biggest People’s Choice award there is! Juan tells Ana that he’s ready” Amanda, it’s just not FAIR to make a person laugh so much at 11:00 p.m. in a hotel room. It’s a real chore to stifle it!!
“She comments that he has a nice body. She tells him to take off his boots.” Ana is clearly a master of understatement. NICE doesn’t even begin to describe it. He really wasn’t a happy camper about having those boot off, was he?
“He asks if it’s really necessary for her to paint his naught bits. She insists that he take off the towel. I bet Juan never, never considered this when he came over to the Davila house that afternoon!” Bet he won’t be dropping by Pastor’s house unannounced if this is what happens in the D. F. when one drops by. Wasn’t Ana’s expression when he dropped the towel priceless?

When Enrique said Yadira "estaba de capa caida" I thought QTH does that mean?! but lo and behod it was in the dictionary as meaning "being down, or depressed". These are gems I hope one day to use.
Plus the goofy country boy character of Juan is endearing, and the actor who plays Pastor Gaytan manages to make his character both obnoxious and poignant at the same time. And let's face it, boxer shorts and boots make the vocabulary lessons go down real easy!

Glad I could make you laugh. You are so right about CL's chest hair! I couldn't even think of anything to write about because it was gross! We need to introduce him to Steve Carrell's waxer!
Judy B.--Right on! Boxers, boots, and vocabulary!
Susanlynn--it'd be great if you have time to join us!
