Destilando Amor - Sept. 27, 2007 Gavi gets whiplash from Hurricane Rod, Pancho gets sent to the doghouse

EPISODE - Sept. 27, 2007:
(ed. note: I wrote this as fast as I could while the episode aired; at times the scenes were so short and quick that it was all I could do to just get the basics of who was in the scene down. Hopefully, I didn't miss too much. J.R. )

* Gavi and Alonso are talking pool-side about her past problems the Montalvo clan - Alonso doesn't care about the past, he is more worried and supportive of who Gavi is right now. He makes her promise to stay calm tomorrow as they head to Tequila and Montalvena; She in turn makes him promise that if he hears any negative rumors about her, he will tell her directly.

* Aaron calls Minnie to tell her about his run-in tonight with Gavi; that he prohibited her from even stepping foot at Montalvena.

* Pammie and dearest Daddy have an endearing telephone conversation. Later, Daddy and Mommy discuss the conversation; he's worried about Pammie and her obsession with Aaron.

* Rod and James at the hacienda.

* Gavi and Alonso discuss their excursion to Montalvena and what they may expect with Rod and Aaron. Gavi reminds Alonso that Granny P and Rod both gave her their blessings to be present at the hacienda for the business meetings, so she's not too worried.

* Isa and Pancho have their intimate rendezvous in Isa's bedroom. The phone rings - Pancho convinces Isa to answer the phone. It's Sofia, looking for her loving husband Pancho. Isa lies and says she's alone and getting ready for bed - says good-night to Sofia and hangs up. Isa and Pancho kiss.

* Gavi works on her computer in her hotel room. Alonso goes stir crazy trying to think up an excuse to visit Gavi tonight.

* James and Rod count down the minutes until Gavi's arrival at Montalvena.

* Alonso goes to Gavi's room. He lies and says he needs to use her phone to make a phone call. She lets him in, then goes down to the hotel's business center to use the hotel's computer and printer. While she's gone, Alonso paces back and forth in her room. The phone rings - Alonso answers - Rod is shocked to find him in Gavi's room and, as Gavi returns and takes the phone from Alonso, Rod turns into the green-eyed monster thinking Alonso and Gavi are lovers. Rod hangs up. Gavi is impactado.

* Rod vents his jealous rage to James.

* Gavi talks with Alonso about her hurt feelings over Rod's anger and jealousy. Alonso is worried about how easily Rod breaks Gavi's heart over and over again. He tries to come up with a resolution in order to continue the trip to visit with Rod at Montalvena. They will discuss in the morning. Alonso wishes Gavi Happy Birthday before he leaves for the night.

* In the office, Rod is still furious and jealous; James stutters; Rod orders James to leave him alone.

* Musical Interlude: Gavi sits on her hotel bed, thinking about Rod and crying; Rod in office, thinking about Gavi and drinking; Gavi cries as she lays in bed, she starts to dial the phone but hangs up and mutters, "Rodrigo, Rodrigo"; Rod drinks and looks at photo of gramps - he gets frustrated and upset and pushes everything off the desk as he plunks himself back in his chair.

* Pancho finally arrives back at Granny's mansion. Sofia is waiting up for him. She notices he's drunk and all wet and confronts him about where he's been and who he's been with. Pancho stumbles with his response - Sofia is furious and throws him out of their bedroom.

* Gavi calls the mansion, to ask Dani for help with Rod.

* Clara lights candles, cries and prays for Gavi.

* Maid wakes Dani and walks her to the phone, to speak with her suegra (Gavi). Dani answers and talks with Gavi. Sofia walks in - Dani stops talking, looks at Sofia and then walks with the phone to the other room. Sofia wakes Pancho asleep on the sofa; she starts to confront him about his lover and all the alcohol she smells on him. He comes up with an excuse about the tequila conference; She doesn't buy it one bit; he continues with his story; she's upset and disillusioned; he asks her to prepare a special bath for him; she looks at him in anger and huffs and puffs away. (Pancho is definitely in the doghouse now.)

* Dani and Gavi discuss Rod's lousy reaction to Alonso answering her phone tonight; Gavi asks Dani to help calm Rod down and explain the truth to Rod (for the sake of the business trip). Dani agrees to try. Gavi hangs up and answers the door. She finds a tray with pink flowers and coffee outside on the floor.

* James returns to the office the next morning and finds Rod standing at the window - he had been there all night. Rod thinks he's lost Gavi forever now, he needs to leave the hacienda and go far away to forget Gavi. Rod flies out of the office with James following as the phone rings. James answers - it's for Rod - James runs to catch Rod.

* Gavi brings the tray inside her room; she reads the note from Alonso - he explains the special coffee he selected for her this morning - as well as wishes her happy birthday.

* Rod is still in his jealous rage and venting to Dani on the phone about Alonso and Gavi. He will leave the hacienda, and James will be in charge of the business conference at the hacienda. He wants to leave now. Dani becomes the voice of reason and calmness; she convinces Rod not to run away (it's Gavi's birthday after all).

* Gavi and Clara talk on the phone - birthday party events. Alonso stops by the room and Gavi talks with him about the present, Rod and their trip to Montalvena. As Alonso helps put the necklace on Gavi, Aaron and two of the group members stop by the doorway. Aaron doesn't resist making a sarcastic comment about Alonso helping Gavi finish dressing. The other two excuse themselves and leave. Aaron sticks around to continue his sarcastic comments - Gavi and Alonso don't appreciate his remarks at all. The hotel workers come to take Gavi's suitcases down to the lobby. Aaron continues his sarcasm about Alonso and Gavi.

* Sofia calls Isa to vent her disillusionment and suspicions that Pancho has a lover. Isa laughs and thinks Sofia is imagining it. Sofia is still disgusted. Dani enters the room and asks Sofia to hang up, so she can use the phone. Sofia wraps up her conversation with Isa quickly, Isa asks about Pancho - Sofia grumbles and hangs up.

* Everyone in the group gathers in the lobby, waiting to leave. Gavi talks with Dani on the hotel phone about Rod's jealousy, not good news - Rod has decided not to be there and leave James in charge of the visit. Gavi hangs up and tells Alonso. Alonso has to assure her not to worry about it. They go to join the group.

* Roman and Ofelia are outside the hacienda, discussing the group coming to visit. He's still upset over Hilario's job - Ofelia tries to get him to open up - he refuses and walks away.

* Hilario is upset when he finds SWB still at the apartment. He wants her gone immediately from the apartment and his life. She cries, whines and begs to stay. He caves and lets her stay one more week and then leaves the room. She vows to use the week to make Hilario is hers and hers alone.

* Gavi takes the group on a tour of Tequila. They stop in the main plaza for photos. Gavi is sad as she looks at the church and buildings.

* Minnie updates Isa about Gavi and Alonso (what Aaron had told her on the phone). Isa can't believe Gavi and Alonso are together; they discuss it in front of Sofia, holding little Rico.

* Alonso, Aaron and others disembark from the bus and go into the hotel. Rod shows up as a surprise and helps Gavi off the bus; he pulls her aside and gives her a huge, passionate birthday kiss in front of Alonso. (WHOA!) Aaron runs out and breaks up the kiss. Gavi goes inside to help with the reservations. In the lobby, Rod greets the group members and welcomes them to Tequila. Aaron joins the conversation. Gavi comes over to tell the group members about the room assignments. Aaron and others go to reception desk. Gavi and Alonso tell Rod they need to talk. Gavi goes to join the group at the reception desk; Alonso and Rod go to the bar for drinks and to talk. Rod listens as Alonso informs him about his difficulties with Aaron on the trip thus far; then Alonso tries to be politically correct about another problem - Rod bluntly states that he is angry and jealous over all the time Alonso has been spending with HIS Gaviota! (AY CARAY!)

Comments:
add a little detail- the scene where Aaron calls Minnie- M: why are you calling so late?! A: K-K-K-K-callate'!! so much love and affection between them. they are the best actors...

Where'd the necklace come from? (I haven't seen the episode yet)

I do think Minnie and Aaron love one another, or at least, they fulfill each others' bizarre needs in a way that no one else can. But I can also understand how Aaron could love Pamela too.

Aaron's a bright and evil guy who loves a challenge - that's where Minnie comes in. Unfortunately, he can't relax around her. So when he needs to rest and regroup, he turns to Pamela, who is not only NOT a challenge, but (until recently) was a total doormat... but she's no fun to scheme with. So, back to Minnie. :)

That's why he got so restless without Minnie, and that's why he's turning into such a raging monster now that he can't have Pamela!

Just my crackpot theory of the day. :)

Dr. Blondie left a tray, which looked like food, outside Gavi's room. The tray contained an orchid corsage, a cup of coffee and a domed cover on a plate. Gavi read the note and touched each item as she read the note. When she came to the domed-covered plate it contained a small box which contained a silver chain and pendant of an agave. I would LOVE to know how the note read.
Boy, hurricane was a good description of Rod. I was hoping that Dr. Blondie made his move last night but maybe with one more outburst from Rod, Gavi will fly into the good Dr.'s arms.

Oh, as much as I lust over Rod, having a handsome, caring, generous and sensitive (as well as intelligent) man might make up for the lack of muscles. In the long run, as the emotional turbulance stays, the looks seem to fade.
Barbara's dos pesos.

I WAS SO ANGRY YESTERDAY WATCHING LAST NITE'S EPISODE. IF I COULD GET INSIDE MY TV I WOULD HAVE GIVEN ROD A KICK IN THE PANTS AND SENT HIM ON HIS WAY AND GOTTEN HOLD OF GAVIOTA AND TRIED TO SHAKE SOME SENSE INTO HER. SHE HAS SUCH A GREAT GUY (ALONSO) CRAZY ABOUT HER AND SHE'S WASTING HER TIME WITH THAT CREEP, RODRIGO...!!!

I JUST HOPE SHE COMES TO HER SENSES AND LOOKS AT ALONSO WITH NEW INTEREST.. ROD WILL NEVER CHANGE. HE HAS THE TEMPERMENT OF A 13-YEAR OLD.

I WAS SO FRUSTRATED;....MY BLOOD PRESSURE MUST HAVE BEEN SKY HIGH...!!!.

IT WAS SO RIDICULOUS TO 'PRAY' TO THE VIRGINCITA FOR THINGS TO WORK OUT WITH ROD WHO MARRIED BEFORE GOD AND WANT HER TO HWLP HER GET HIM...!! IF SHE DOES, WILL SHE MARRY CIVILLY (SP?) AND HER MOTHER, ENCOURAGING HER TO WORK ON ROD, ALTHO AT ONE POINT SHE TOLD HER TO CONCENTRATE ON ALONSO.

THEY'RE ALL CRAZY...!!!

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!?!?!?!

Rodrigo's wedding was a civil ceremony. Once he's divorced, he and Gaviota can get married in a church... if she'll have him.

Thanks Barbara - Wow, Dr. Blondie is pulling out all the stops, isn't he? If Rodrigo doesn't like it, he needs to up his game. Right now he's making it way too easy for Alonso to swoop in and steal his little seagull. :)

From what I remember- Rod and Isa got married in a church with the white dress and everything. But since they never did the nasty within the marriage supposedly they can get divorced in the catholic church. It is so great now that Gavi has Dani in her corner. It seems as if Dani's talk with Rod calmed him down a bit- that kiss was over the top! He wanted to mark his terrITOry AND boy did he ever! These episodes about this whole Manzanilla trip are a waste of time in my opinion - I want more ROd & Gavi action!

Thanks, Natalia - you're right. I DO remember thinking for a few weeks after that that they'd be able to get it annulled, but then I forgot all about it and only remembered that this marriage wasn't going to count against them.

Maybe this has been addressed before: Yesterday afternoon while setting up my tape to play Destilando, I ran into Accorolada and there were two lovers named Gaviota and Rodrigo, but the rest of the story looked unfamiliar. What's up with that?

I felt like screaming myself with Rod's idiocy He is just like a five year old in his behavior with a load of hormones added. I've never seen a character jump to conclusions like he does. In all novelas there are tons of jumping to conclusions but usually with a little more evidence to go on. Alonzo answers the phone in Gavi's room ergo they must be lovers - what a moron.

Stupidity runs in the family because Stupid Sofiaz jumped to the same conclusion just because FF came home with his clothes wet. Beats me as to how that signifies he has a lover (which of course we know he does).

I did almost die laughing at the look on Aron face when Rod grabbed Gavi and kissed her. While the kiss looked hot it was in very poor taste of him to do it in front of the businessmen. Talk about a dog marking his territory.

Hil and his unwanted guest - ho hum - boring and just a filler.

It's the money, honey!!!

That's the only reason that this story line sells.

If Rod was just a pretty boy (like Hilario) and he was married with a child, extremely jealous and controlling, with an out of control temper, sneaking and snooping around, putting Gaviota's job on the line, and without on ounce of trust or respect for Gavi, everyone would be pulling for Alonzo.

Relationships cannot be built on passion, take the character and class of Alonzo.

Rod was just stupid and borrriing. Enough of this juvenile behavior. Edwardo can't rant like Sergio......He just looks and sounds stupid. I agree that Minnie and Aaron (the actors ) are the best in the novela. The drunk scene was some good acting. Gavi does OK but she's a little old to portray this character.

I can't wait to see what happens to Frankie. He needs to be around to take the fall for diseased crops, sleeping with Isa, father of Isa's baby (if he is), unfaithful husband, and probably other things. I can't see how they will all come to a head all at once. Unless he dies (because he made the unpardonable sin of dissing his mother) and then everything else comes out slowly.

I've lost interest in Rod. He can just sit there and smile as far as I am concerned.

And it's time Isa gets her just reward.

Mi dos peniques.

Well I don't think Frankie is doing Sofie anymore..he doesn't sleep with her, he came home with all the buttons ripped off his shirt..and now he comes stumbling in all wet, drunk & I am guessing smelling of bath oil. Jumping to conclusions?

My husband thinks Dr Blondie is pushy..you give your subordinate a necklace, flowers and so on. Like I said yesterday, if Nancy was on fire in the lobby, Dr. Blondie wouldn't get up to throw a cup of coffee on her.

At least Rod/Gavi have chemistry..I see none with Blondie.

This in no way excuses Rod for his lame ass behavior, but why can't a Gavi just tell him to shape his ass up and back off until the ink is dry on the divorce w/o having a guy waiting in the wings?

I've realized that in telenovelas, the "main relationship" is what interests me the least. In telenovelas especially, where the outcome is pretty much already decided, I know that most of what goes on between them throughout the duration is going to be reversed soon enough. (I.e. they fight, then they make up, then they fight again... yawn.)

What keeps me coming back is the scheming and bitchery that the other characters have to come up with in order to keep the main couple apart (and wondering what will happen to them at the end of the story). I also like the financial stuff, and although some of the "educational" agave/tequila stuff doesn't always blend into the story very well, I like that too.

I even care what happens to Sanwanna and Hili, a little bit. At least it's more suspenseful than the Rodrigo/Gavi story. :)

I believe there is some chemistry between Gavi and Alonso. The Dr. has been holding back but when he is ready, I'll bet he is a tiger.
Gavi did remark, when she received the tequilla sampler present, that Alonso's note to her suggested a deeper emotion than he shows on the surface. Besides, they make a cuter couple; maybe Gavi could shake him loose a little. Oh, and I hope Hilario doesn't do anything rash with SanJuanna. Maybe he could get her a job as a lingerie model - hello girls!

Thanks for the really nice recap of yet another frustrating filled episode. So many of you think that Dr Blondie and Gavi would make a good couple. I don't. I can't stand him. He's complicating Gavi's already complicated life. He was wrong to answer her phone. Even after seeing the problem that caused, he sent the tray. Love on the rebound never works and that's what a relationship with the Dr would be. Even if Gavi and Rod break up, Gavi need to regroup with some young friends. She's too attractive and intelligent to have to take the first thing that comes along (again). I've given up on Rod also. He's overplaying his part if you ask me. I could write a book about women I know who married men with substandard behavior thinking that marriage would change them. Gavi needs a shoulder to cry on, but she doesn't need that to turn into a romance with that boring intrusive Dr. Yeah, Rod was way out of place kissing Gavi the way he did. I wish someone would drive by and shoot Aaron.

Thanks for the recap JR!
Rodrigo did "good" by showing up at the bus and planting a big kiss on Gavi. Let's see how he behaves tonight. It's one step forward, two steps back with him.
Unfortunately, Rod's jealousy is not tempered by any comedy or soul searching(as in LFMB & Fernando).
It's always a one note performance.

Finally, Sofie grows a backbone. How long will this last?

Aron hanging around the tequila visitor guys, and riding the bus - oh yeah, that's REAL believable.

Min and Aron are amusing.

I like the geography/travel bits. They're as cheesy as films about other countries I'd watch in elementary school. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

I think part of the draw for Gavi has got to be that she is very comfortable with the ranch..those are her people. I'm not saying she wouldn't be fine in the city, but her heart is in the Agave fields, cooning out those tunes.

I wonder if Sanwanna gets preg in order to have Hili. That would be the pits. What is it with him. He leads her on by not being consistant. talk about women saying no but meaning yes. What is he doing? "You can't say you can't stay here, get out, I m not interested anymore, etc. then, "You can stay a little longer.

The only thing worse than Rod's behavior, is Gavi putting up with it. His rude, insulting, abusive behavior isn't love. He threatens her livelyhood and never considers how his actions affect her. She should say adios until he gets divorced and learns how to treat a woman with trust and respect. She could use the time to figure out who she is and what she really wants...

What is the actual function of the CRT and its relationship to Rod's Ardiente Pasion?

Hello to all of you Destilando Amor faithfuls. I'm new to this site, I found it on accident and now I'm hooked. I Love the recaps, there so fun to read, especially Becky, you are hilarious. I've been watching Destilando Amor since it first started. Actually I went to Mexico, to visit In laws, in MArch and it was already weeks into to it there, but I watched it every night there, and when I came home it had started here, so it was funny, watching it from the beginning after seeing what was to come later. My husband is Hispanic, but I am not and I don't speak Spanish very well, I do understand, much more then I can speak, though and the captions help. My husband doesn't like to be the translator, but that's okay because now I have you all. Thanks for taking the time to write all those recaps, it has made the show much more enjoyable.

The CRT is a real organization - the Tequila Regulatory Commission (or Council). Its purpose is to inspect and certify tequila products as genuine based on their content and origin. If you buy a bottle of tequila it should have a CRT number on it somewhere.

Evidently, at least on this show (I don't know about real life), they also help promote the tequila industry worldwide).

Thanks, Julie--I looked at the website, it was very informative. I love the "social studies video" aspect of this novela. I never learned so much about tequila, or agave--even if Rod's trying to outshout Dr. Cafe's recitation of the facts was rather annoying. But they both deserve an "A" for preparation.
