Tues 10/9 Destilando Amor: Hey good lookin', whatcha got cookin'

So the two guys are in Rod's office, singing the praises of Gavi and her mom, but Rod would rather talk about business. They practically beg him to go to their expo-fairs. There's one in Europe (Germany, France, and England, whose native languages just happen to be the extra ones that Gaviota speaks, but shhhh don't remind Rodrigo) for organic foods and beverages, and then a tour of cities in the US for boozes & beverages. The one in Europe starts next week, and even though Rodrigo does tequila for a living and was planning to export it abroad anyway, I guess he hasn't given any thought to doing trade shows at all. He loves the idea, though - thinks it could help with his "treatment." He catches himself before he reveals too much, but the two guys are too happy to notice anyway.

Sofia and James are on their way to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard for brains and courage, respectively. Sofia figures that all she needs to do is ask around, and she should have no trouble finding out who Frankie's special lady is. She wants to begin her quest is with Crispin. James nervously begins telling her that he, James, isn't Frankie's favorite person, and that what he's doing could be like declaring an open war on him. This doesn't make Sofia feel any better about her long-held suspicion that James has been holding out on her, out of some sense of male solidarity. He pleads ignorance, but she's on a mission.

She gets out of the truck and approaches Crispin, who is obviously drunk, with his eyeglasses askew. He recognizes her and tells her that Frankie went to the Plaza. Crispy says Frankie's got lots of young lady friends, not just one. He offers her a special drink that's meant to soothe an angry spouse. She takes off, crying a bit, and Crispy mumbles something about how the drink will tighten the biliary ducts (a reference to the humors of yore). She tells James to take her to the Plaza. She says she's gonna kill Frankie. James insists that she's misinterpreting things. She doubts this, and I'm wondering why he's so desperate to keep Sofia from the truth when she already knows more than enough to be hurt. She gets in his truck and covers her face with her hand.

At the CRT, someone named Miller (one of the guys that were in Rod's office, but I'm not sure which one) calls to let Dr. Blondie know that Rod's going to the expos. Dr. Blondie forwards the call to Gaviota and chuckles to himself in a borderline-nefarious manner.

Gavi tells Miller she'll be at the airport to say goodbye to all the CRT tour people. After the call, Gavi tells Dr. Blondie what a great time Miller says he had. Dr. B tells her that Rod is going to the expos in Europe and the USA to promote his tequila, and surely he'll want the help of his right foot (meaning Gavi - I assume that's similar to "right hand" but perhaps without the autoerotic connotation).

He tells her to call Rodrigo and offer him any support from the CRT he might want. This request surprises Gavi, so he tells her to have Nancy do it if necessary, but it has to be done quickly, because the fun starts next week and will last for a month.

Gavi has Nancy call Rod's office to offer that support, but Margarita says that Rodrigo is gone for the day. Gaviota speaks to Marg and asks if Rod said anything about a trip. Marg hasn't heard anything yet. Gav gives Marg the message about the CRT's support, wanting to iron out the details, and tells her that if Rod doesn't want to speak to her, then to please call Nancy instead. And also, Gavi wants to know how Rod is doing. She hopes he's doing well. Marg confides that Rod was agitated at first when he came back from the hacienda, but Daniela came to see him, and he's calmed down since.

Back at Granny's house, Pilar asks Dani what's up with Rodrigo - she's been worried about him. Dani tells Pilar about the counseling. She assures Pilar that Gavi is the victim, not the cause, of Rodrigo's trouble - and if not for all the crap their family pulled, the two of them would be happy together right now. Regardless, Pilar says she'd feel better if Gavi would take up with Dr. Blondie. She's relieved to hear that Rodrigo has decided to stop pursuing her, and hopes Dani will cut off her friendship with Gavi and give all of her support to Rodrigo. Dani says, "I know," but doesn't actually say "I will." She says it's sad that two people who were born to love one another can't experience that love.

Dr. Erika has worn another pretty let's-have-a-picnic dress to the office today. Rodrigo is joking around with her, asking if she's got the instruments and anesthesia ready for his operation. She says they'll work superficially for now, and eventually they'll get to the root of the problem and find out if it's possible to make the pain bearable.

He tells her about his trip and says he'll probably have to suspend his treatments for a month, huh? She says if he takes her advice, then when he comes back he won't need her. He asks whether she's speaking as a doctor, or as Erika. She says as Erika. If she were speaking as the doctor, she'd be trying to set up appointments for as soon as he comes back. He explains about the trip, and she tells him he could have done that over the phone.

Rodrigo is frustrated that he hasn't even paid for a session yet - she's spending time with him and paying for their restaurant meetings. She says that's because she enjoyed their dinners, and when he meets with her in the office he should take it as a small token of friendship from Erika. "Have a nice trip," she says, getting up and extending her hand.

"I can't leave like this," Rodrigo announces dramatically, but it's just one of those idle things people say before a commercial. When we come back it turns out that he wants to know what she was going to say to him last night. It must have been pretty good if she was willing to postpone other appointments to see him. She says something like they couldn't have concluded much in just one session.

He wants to know what they should do. Erika shrugs and says he's the one with the time constraints, not her. He tries to explain in a metaphor: if there were something horribly wrong with his teeth, a dentist could fix them up over a weekend with some intensive work. Can a psychologist do something similar? Laughing, Erika asks if he would spend the weekend at her office. He laughs this off a little too brightly, like when a little kid tries to bluff you and then backpedals like mad when you call his bluff. He jokes that they'd then get a bad case of claustrophobia. Then she says three days in a restaurant wouldn't be an option either, but he likes that idea better, especially if she's going to pay her client's bills.

She says she does have an idea (still laughing nervously, he says "it's not electrical shocks, right?"). She says she sometimes meets with clients at a resort in Tepostlán. A weekend really won't be enough, but they should be able to make some progress, and when he comes back, they can make more appointments. At the very least, it will relieve some of his stress.

She assures him that it's cool, she meets lots of clients there. Rod flops down on the sofa and he hints around that maybe it would be a problem for her family if she gave up a weekend for him. She says it's business, the same as him leaving his family for a month - they understand when it's for business, right? As for her, she assures Rodrigo that she doesn't have a husband... or kids... and her last boyfriend, she left him at a psychiatric clinic in Mazatlan. ("He went crazy?" Rod asks. "No, he's a psychiatrist.")

(I think I missed something somewhere in this scene - either whatever advice she was supposedly offering as Erika rather than as a doctor, or whatever it was that she was going to say to him at the restaurant the previous night.)

Back in James's truck, James says the last thing he wants is for her to damage her relationship with Francisco. (HA!!) She coaxes a little more info out of him: he admits that Frankie is not a saint. He likes to party with lots of women, but there's nothing serious going on - they all know she's his wife and they respect her. (By "respect" I assume he means "have a hearty laugh at.") He promises that if he knew of anything serious, he'd tell her. (I guess screwing around, possibly knocking somebody up, and bringing diseases home doesn't count as something serious as long as they don't get divorced over it.) Unconvinced, Sofia says the girlfriend must be from another village, or maybe in Guadalajara. James knows nothing of such thinks.

"There goes Francisco," Sofia exclaims, jumping out of the truck. "Don't worry about me, go back to the hacienda." (James goes on to visit the Wizard and gets his balls back, as we shall see. Uh, I don't mean we'll see his... oh, never mind.)

Frankie is in the process of flirting with two bimbos on a bench, who want to go to a spa. On seeing Sofia, he immediately sends them away, telling them to say hi to their husbands for him. Sofia knows he was making plans with them, but he tries to turn it around on her, scolding her for scolding him in the street, why you know how these villagers are, it could make trouble with their husbands... Sofia yells at him and says everyone knows about his flirting. He wants to know who is making up such rumors!

A passing bimbo greets him by name, and he offers her a distracted benediction. They argue about whether or not their marriage has gone to hell yet. Embarrassed by her loudness, he begins leading her out of the plaza, away from curious ears.

She dares him to deny that he's popular with the ladies of Tequila. Two more bimbos pass and sweetly tell him he's well accompanied. He tells them to say hi to their parents for him. He tells Sofia of course he's popular among the agave growers and tequila distillers.

He practically drags her along, begging her to drop that attitude - people are looking. She sarcastically remarks that all these women must just be his friends, then? They get to his car, where yet another bimbo says hello - I am laughing so hard I can hardly type. Sofia gets in and ANOTHER bimbo comes by as Frankie tells Sofia to roll up her window.

Sofia complains that it's too hot, he puts on the AC, she screams that she doesn't want the AC and refuses to close her window, so Frankie overrides her and rolls up the mirrored windows himself for privacy. She sarcastically suggests that he turn on the radio really loud too. He likes this idea, but she wants to ask him something first: if all these women here are his "friends," what does he have elsewhere? Where's his favorite girlfriend hidden? "James is poisoning you against me, isn't he?!" He asks Sofia if she ever had to live in the same house as her husband's ex-fiancee. He's got no girlfriends or lover here or anywhere in all of Mexico. And he hopes she doesn't keep talking, or they'll have an accident on the way back to the hacienda. Sofia thinks an accident would be the best thing that could befall them at this point!

They're still arguing when they get home. He's claiming that he's famous due to his excellent work and because Sofia is his wife. (This does not explain why no men greeted him, and nobody greeted Sofia, in the plaza!) Sofia is not impressed with his excuses, but he wants to make things right. "You're going to break up with one of your girlfriends?" No, he thinks they should spend 24 hours a day together. But if she doesn't go for that, then it looks like their marriage is over and she doesn't think it's worth fighting for. She tells him she'll think about it, because she doesn't want to be fighting with him day and night. He says if she has another idea, he'll gladly do whatever she wants. He tries the skunky French on her, and she rejects his nauseating attempted kiss, and takes off to think.

James shows up while Frankie is sipping a dainty glass of sherry. "Thanks for taking Sofia to town to spy on me, I appreciate that a lot." James says it was bound to happen sooner or later. She wasn't going to stay cooped up cooking and ironing for him forever; she already knows just about everything; Frankie should have been more discreet. Frankie tells him to mind his own crops; he knocks over the white king chess piece, ooooooh I'm so scared. He calls James a snitch; undaunted, James denies tattling and says he's seen Sofia suffer a lot because of Frankie, and he told her some things that were on his conscience. He warns that he'd better not see Sofia crying over him again.

(I hope those balls are here to stay, and aren't some sort of novelty dissolving balls the Wizard gave him as a joke.)

It's night time at the Basurio. Rodrigo tells Isa that he's going on a month-long trip and will be leaving her alone, the way she likes. She pretends not to understand what he means about her liking to be alone. He says she can have the whole place to herself and do what she wants. She agrees that that pretty much sums up the pact of their marriage.

He's not crazy about leaving the kid for such a long time, but Isa tells him it'll be okay. It's not the first time he's abandoned his wife and child. He says what really worries him is that Enriqueta might not be around. And he's uneasy about personnel changes in the building - like there's a new night watchman, for example. Isa says yeah, she knows about that - she asked for a new night watchman because the previous one was inattentive. She asked him to do two things and he didn't do them. There wasn't any hot water, and he didn't do anything about it. And then on Sunday she went to the supermarket with the baby, and he wouldn't help her with her bags.

Rod thinks this sounds very odd and unlike the night man - plus, what was she doing out so late with the baby? (Needed diapers and milk.)

(Night watchman mystery solved!)

Then Rod tells her he's only going to be around till the end of the week - he's spending the weekend at a resort in la Sierra de Tepostlán to unwind before his trip.

Isa asks him to cut the crap. Does he distrust her? (Rodrigo seems confused.) What does he think he has on her? Because, she says emphatically, she hasn't been up to anything. Bemused, Rod gets up for dinner.

At home, Gavi pours herself a nice tall glass (okay, it's just a regular caballito) of Rodrigo's tequila and flashes back to when he showed her the label with her kiss on it.

(Funny - I just noticed the tequila is sort of reposado-colored. Does this mean there's already a blanco? Or did they not bother with a blanco?)

Meanwhile, at the Basurio, Rodrigo flashes back to Gavi telling him (in front of Dr. Blondie) to stop being so jealous, and that she wants to be with a normal person. Then he flashes back to Erika telling him that if he doesn't confront his fear, he can't solve his impotence, his jealousy, his relationship with Gaviota. He has to be willing to find out for himself if there isn't another woman out there for him.

Frankie is watching maybe a telenovela when Sofia comes in and offers him a second and final chance. He kisses her hand for so long that I begin to suspect that he's stalling for time. Then he strokes her face, and gives her chaste little kisses, and strokes her hair while she stands there like a block of wood. Fortunately, we don't see any more of this.

It's the next day. Nancy reports that Rodrigo hasn't called back yet. At Montalvo Corp., Rod tells Marg to set up a meeting with his executives for first thing tomorrow, and asks about his travel plans. (He's leaving for Frankfort at 6 on Monday afternoon.) As for returning Gavi's call, he's not sure what to do. Marg says that Gavi also wanted to know how he was doing, and to call Nancy if he didn't want to speak to Gavi. Rodrigo says he'll email Nancy instead.

At the CRT, Gaviota, Dr. Blondie, and some other people are talking about getting chefs for the expos. Unfortunately, they can't get the people they want on such short notice. Who can they get that will be able to come up with tequila-based dishes? Dr. Blondie has a solution: he'll do it. See, he's an expert chef.

I apologize to certain people for mentioning La Fea Mas Bella yet again, but just in case you were wondering why you felt the ground reverberate at this moment: It was the thud of every Aldo-disliker hitting the floor, convulsing with derisive laughter.

Shortly thereafter, Nancy gets a call from Margarita, and an email shows up on her screen. Gaviota leans over her shoulder to read:
To whom it may concern: I appreciate the interest you expressed regarding my impending trip to the US and Europe; be advised that I won't require any assistance or support from the CRT for this launch. I've already contracted with the necessary outlets to promote Ardiente Pasion independently. At the same time, be advised that I will no longer be using the services of your institution's Public Relations department. Respectfully, Rodrigo Montalvo.
As she reads, Gavi imagines Rodrigo dictating this message to Margarita. She takes the phone from Nancy and scolds Marg and asks what's up with this outrageous email saying that Montalvo doesn't want anything to do with the CRT. Marg seems surprised by Gavi's anger and says she was just following orders. Gav wants to speak to Rod, but he refuses the call. Gavi says, "Fine - just tell him we got the message." Smiling, Rod wants to know what Gavi said, and is glad to hear that she was annoyed. He instructs Marg not to pass him any more calls or messages from the CRT, especially from Mariana. "Especially from her," he repeats.

Super-plus impactada, Gaviota delivers the shocking news to Dr. Blondie that Rodrigo has fired them. Dr. B keeps a poker face and says "sorry." She says she knows it's not the end of the world, but he says it must seem that way. He hands her a hanky and tries to cheer her up by reminding her of how humorous she found his claim of being an expert chef. This seems to work. Nancy comes in, and Gavi laughingly repeats it to Nancy. Gavi tells her how desperate they were to find a chef, and now their boss is going to make up recipes that are based on tequila. Nancy finds this even more humorous.

"If you think that's so funny, you can both try out my dishes tomorrow night at my house." Nancy snickers that he's got a screw loose, and Gaviota worries about indigestion, but they stifle themselves as best they can because it's unwise to offend the cook.

Thank you Julie, for yet another detailed and humorous recap.
I did find myself saying "Aldo" when doctorcito volunteered to do the cooking at the Tequila Cooking Festival. I also expected to see Lety and Luigi offering some marketing ideas. Ha ha!
What a wonderful way to start my day. Great day to all!!

Thanks, Julie. Yes, I am sure a lot of psychiatists meet their patients in restaurants, pay the tab, and don't charge for office visits. Ha. Rod, she is after you , dude. I am thinking that Dr.Erika is thinking that she is the cure for you ,Big Guy. She is Love Potion Numero Nine packaged in a frilly frock. . The suggestion of spending a weekend of ''therapy'' at a resort ...yeah that sounds professional, but the profession is not psychiatry. I'm sure that resort weekends happen a lot in the world of psychology. I'm pretty certain that Sigmund Freud did this all the time. He spent many weekends at Austrian resorts with his patients. Julie, I loved your comment on Dr. Erika's ''picnic'' frocks....very professionl. She is the prettiest girl in the telenovela ...very femininelooking . Gavi, you should be very afraid when you find out about Rod's doctor. I can barely stand looking at Frankie at this point. He has become a legend in his own mind. He thinks that he can get away with anything and lies so much that he wouldn't know the truth if he was sitting on it. Isa , likewise, lies straight in people's faces. The clock is ticking. I can't wait for their fall. And I am anxiuosly awaiting Dr. Blondie's new cookbook ''Tasty Tequila Treats.'' The roller coaster keeps climbing , climbing, climbing.....

Thanks for the excellent recap. Your humor evens out the frustration, and once again the frustration is mounting! Since the beginning I have been a Rodrigo and Gaviota fan, even with their constant ups and downs, and some of those ups and downs more frustrating than others. With Rodrigo's new found relationship with Erika, I've concluded that he definitely has dependency issues and is unable to cope when things don't go exactly his way. He was dependent on Gavi, is dependent on Dani, and now Erika. We've known all along that his main issue is with women, period. Rod needs a male psychologist, because even though Erika is supposed to be the best in her field, she, by virtue of her sex, is one of the roots of his problems. He needs a male point of view! PS. I don't like how he's treating Gavi right now...I guess it's her turn to cry.

No no no! I disagree that women are his problem and that he needs a male POV... ROD is the problem and he's been hearing the male perspective ("there is something wrong with you, you should be a macho stud muffin") all his life, not only from men, but also from women... except for Dani, who keeps pushing him at Gavi when she should probably let him take a break!

Rod will get better when he can learn to deal with women as regular woman-people, because so far for him there are only four kinds of women: employees, relatives, Gaviota, and scary threatening monsters who will bite him. Erika is (as "Erika" and maybe not so much as a Doctora) trying to get him to be comfortable with another way of looking at women.

Yeah, I think that's also why she won't let him pay for the sessions... so that her behavior won't technically constitute an ethical breach. Whether she's doing that because she wants him, or because it's part of her crazy-like-a-fox-strictly-clinical methodology, I don't know. And whether that would fly, professionally speaking, in the real world regardless of her efforts... I also don't know!

You've made my point, exactly. Aside from Dani, Rod trusts no woman, and he probably trusts Dani about 90% While I do think him and Gavi need a break, I don't think in the long run Erika can be objective, she's too accomodating, and if she breaks his trust, Rod will be truly screwed up forever. Even after everything Aaron's said and done, Rod still chooses to believe him to some extent, because he's only been listening to Aaron's perspective, and Aaron is not normal. He needs the perspective of an objective, as close to normal as possible male, NOT JAMES!.

Dr. Erika's Secret Journal Entry in her Laptop Computer last night:

Gracias a Dios, I am practicing in Mexico and not America or reality where those stupido rules about doctora/patient relationships exist. Did I say relationships? If he suits down this good for a faux appointment, I can't wait to see how good he is going to look when he is accompanying me to those boring psyche conventions and dinner meetings I use to have to attend ALONE. Anyway, technically he is not a patient, I mean, have I ever taken a peso from him. No, he is not a patient, he is an INVESTMENT. Si, and a muy guapo college educated passionate probably good smellin' soon to be single investment and really not as complicated as he thinks he is. However I am going to have to "make nice" that little the story of how Rod and I met when my Amiga peers ask, "Where did you find him?!.

My dear Rodrigo, I have waited so long for you. Maybe that book "The Secret" works after all. Mi futuro Guapito, Welcome to el mundo where the big sophisticated girls play and not under flea infested agave fields. Don't worry about your familia; I am more than capable of handling ALL of them, no charge por supuesto. That would be, well, unprofessional.

excellent quick recap, Julie. My dos centavos on this odd tack that Dra Erika has. I think that she sees Rod as not broken, very fixable, a hunk, and rich. If she doesn't charge him, meets him in restaurants, dresses like she does, then he's not a client, and can pursue him. Altho i've always been pulling for Rod and Gavi, i'm tiring of their infantile relationship. I am certain that they will end up together. Meanwhile, i like Erika (she is calm and sharp, and oh-so-easy on the eyes), and won't complain a bit that she does attempt to "cure" Rod. I'm thinking that she will have the marvelous effect of fine-tuning him for his future with our Gavi...What i'm really looking forward to is the anvils falling on Smarmyfrankie. He is so bad. ...dorado dave

LOL, Sistah Val!

I had a free evening last night and I watched this and JQ last night in addition to my usual Amar sin Limites and I'd have to say that this was the best of the three. All the usual telenovela tropes but by some of the best telenovela actors. Some comic relief, a little tension and I learned something about the tequila business! In contrast, Amar is in a dark, preachy and somewhat boring phase right now.

Really enjoyed your recap, and after last night's episode, I'm getting the feeling that Dr. Erika will be the same to Rodrigo as Dr. Blondie is to Gaviota. Neither couple will go "all the way," but I'm sure there will be some almost tense moments! Dr. Erika is sure to fall for the "innocent and tortured" Rodrigo, just like Dr. Blondie fell for the "innocent and spunky" Gaviota. Is it a coincidence that both Erika and Santovena are doctors?? I don't think so.......just call them the "love doctors!"

Julie..very good
and yes Diet Coke went up my nose when Blondie said he was a chef & my husband expressed his disbelief over the Carla/Erika connection.

Picnic dresses..so true so true, not forward, but so innocent & clean and pure, yet very feminine.

Now for Sofie, I think she realizes she doesn't love AssHat & now she just doesn't know how to get out of it without looking like the bad person. I would just kick his ass out. If she doesn't want to stress Rod, well just put dumb ass James & smarter ass Roman in charge. Screw Frankie I mean what is he gonna do about it? Nothing

The shrink part..that is how I feel about Dr. Phil and the bizillions of middle class women who hang on his every word. I have friends who tape his show everyday & are convinced he is a god...he understands women, if only their spouse would listen to him. If he had them in a clinical setting they would be one suitcase away from running off with him.

Julie - thanks for the recap. I'm with you - thank goodness we were spared seeing if Sofie gives in to Frankie. My skin was crawling enough.

The good doctor's offer to cook for the expo was so, so reminiscent of the other novela (whose name I dare not write)...are these writers getting lazy and stealing plotlines?

Sistah Val, loved Dr. Erika's diary, especially the reference to "The Secret" - very funny!

Rod was so rude with that letter declining CRT's offer of help, and taking such pleasure in Gavi's hurt.
I don't think a weekend, week, or month at a posh spa resort will do him any good. Erika might profit in some way, but not him.

Dr. Phil? I scream in terror every time I see him. Sometimes he says something before I can change the channel, and then his folksy words of bumper-sticker wisdom haunt me for the rest of the day.

I think I know why the Montalvos haven't thrown Frankie out on his ear. Only Rod or Pilar can do that, and they are the ONLY two people who don't know at least some of what's going on. (Actually, Rod does know, but he doesn't know that Sofie knows... funny how these people choose their priorities...)

It's too bad Dani and her blabby little mouth don't take five minutes off from the Gavi/Rod situation to fill Rod in on what's going on with his other sister. I know they don't always get along, but this is ridiculous.

OMG I too almost died laughing with the I am a cook line from Dr. Blondie. I can't help thinking if we get to, make that have to see scenes from the Food Expo that Juan Soler will suddenly pop out of the woodwork still lecturing on food being the flavor of life.

Frankie's manipulation Sofia YAWN. Frankie and Sofia and James more yawns

Rod's rudeness in that memo was inexcusable. He irked me so much I hope his precious tequila bombs in Europe and everywhere else. He is so self centered and obsessive about everything pretty doc better watch her high heeled steps or he'll just add her as another one. And for what it is worth his giggly behavior around her gets on one of my last nerves. The man seriously needs to grow up.

Thanks for the great recap. Once again, the different comments have said everything I would have said.
Sistah Val, thanks for sharing that prize winning entry from Erika's. It sure confirmed everything that I've been thinking. By the way, I don't think that Erika is the prettiest woman in this novela. Sorry, but overlooking behavior and judging on looks alone, Isa would walk away with first prize in any beauty contest. Whereas Erika is very pretty, Isa is beautiful. Erika's constant flirty smile is annoying to me. Anya, I loved your comment: "Rod was so rude with that letter declining CRT's offer of help, and taking such pleasure in Gavi's hurt. I don't think a weekend, week, or month at a posh spa resort will do him any good. Erika might profit in some way, but not him". One last comment, in my opinion, Rod would be better off a male therapist, some one with no hidden agenda. Can you imagine imagine Rod grabbing a male therapist the way he did Erika when she tried to leave the restaurant.

Didn't Gavi tell Rod to leave her in Peace? Let her do her job?

Is this a case of be careful what you ask for?

Granted the e-mail was a bit abrupt, but let us not forget that in combination of a business setting, we had three individuals with their own agendas. Rod who was like one drop to the knee away from a proposal, Gavi who sandwiched in between felt too much pressure. I think in this situation, knowing the mix, it was wrong for Dr Blondie to manipulate her into going on the trip. He dircted the outcome. It was the Rod show of "Tequila My Life", but every fact, every story, Dr Blondie had to top him.

I do think if Rod wants to find out what his problem is, he does need to cut her out or else he will be right back there again. However, I don't think he needs the Dr. Erika hands on approach.
All in all, I really don't know cause after Boston Legal last night and the 40% of people who end up more depressed and the years of Tony Soprano therapy & hearing of others who are in therapy for years & nothing is ever resolved, well?

Sometimes people cling to their problems because after a while, they get used to hiding behind them. Maybe even feel safer that way. Again, perhaps this is a Fernando Gaitan thing, because if ever there was someone who wanted to hide behind her problems, it was Betty/Lety.

But I think that's why years of therapy can end up yielding no improvement - if the person is getting something out of the "problem" then there's little incentive to change. And the therapy becomes another thing the person can hide behind for comfort and convenience. I don't know what the therapist's options are, in this case. A full-blown psychologist with a private practice, like Dr. Erika, can probably fire an unmotivated patient, but if we're talking about social workers at a nonprofit counseling center, or people undergoing court-ordered counseling, not so much.

I don't remember what got me started on this train of thought, but if I did have a point, I hope you can find it in there someplace. Oh right - Rodrigo. I can't tell if he's motivated or not. He says he wants to get Gaviota out of his system, but he took way too much pleasure in writing that pissy letter.

Thanks Julie for a delightful, insightful and humorous recap. While I am still catching up on where the characters have gone (not much movement in 2 weeks) and the reintroduction of the beautiful Erika. It is equally edifying and amusing to read all the 16+ comments. This show really has spurred interesting thoughts from all of you.
I loved, loved, loved Sistah Val's Dear Diary addition from Erika's point of view. I was going to say that her dress was pre-cocktail hour, perhaps champagne in the afternoon in the rose garden. Femininely floaty, chiffony material, just enough breast showing to be aluring but not slutty at all. Slender and elegant and sooo flirty with her barely sexually suggestive word play. It sure brought out everyone's deepest thoughts on the psych professional world. All the way from Phil to suggestions of {who was that psychologist/psychiatrist from the 30's or 40's who practiced sex treatments to "Help" his patients. Yeah, right doc!!
Frankie could be so much cagier if he only kept Miss Priss sexually satisfied, she would probably be to blissed out to bother with his philandering. He seems to be repulsed by her since he sticks to French 101 and lots of hand kissing. Hope she helps old James get his balls out of that box....

Julie,

I agree with Rod getting too much pleasure out of the pissy letter.

Beckster - Ditto for Gavi having told him to leave her in peace to do her job, so technically she shouldn't be throwing a hissy fit when he does even if it is a first.

But, CRT is a business that he has been using to help promote his product. It is lunacy to fire the whole company and kiss off what they could do for him simply because he has personal issues with one of it's employees and imagined ones with another. A sharp business man Rod is not.

Well, I started my day with the recap, and I have enjoyed unwinding after a looong day at work with these great comments. Just some stream-of-consciousness bits and pieces. Sistah Val, I , too, loved Dr. Erika's Dear Diary entry...right on the money. She is kind of a brunette Doris Day with a degree. As for Smarmy Frankie sweet-talking the clueless Sophie...I have 2 words for you SophieGirl : knee>>>>>groin. And Beckster, be honest ...You and I would have drowned Frankie in a vat of tequila by now. Rod--he was mean with that email , but he seems as tired as I am of Gavi's ''Yes-No-Maybe-No-Yes--Perhaps.'' There was a name for this behavior in high school. Gavi , is it si y no???? Should he stay or should he go??? As for who should wind up as homecomning queen, I still think that Erika is the natural , classic beauty in this group, but that's just MHO..different strokes for different folks. Isa is very pretty, and I'd be curious to see her with her natural hair color. Can't wait to see what happens tonight.

Even though this is not a whose the prettiest contest, Erika is pretty and I'm sure she can hold her own. Gaviota is also pretty and has shown us that she can hold her own, when she's mad enough. They are two totally different types of women. Gaviota needs to leave her pride at the door, and take a page from SanJuanna's book, and go get her man. Rodrigo would drop at her feet, lick them, and turn back into the adoring puppy she loves, if she made a fool out of herself for him. Maybe deep down inside that's what he's wanted all along. By the way, great recap Julie.

Now, now, Exported. There's some of us who like Isa. The only thing I know about her is from this novela and that's all I want to know. Just because she's playing a bad guy role here does not make it OK to bring in things about her personal life. Not only is it unfair to make such ugly remarks about her, it also violates the rules of keeping the actors private lives out of this.

I'd like to say Rod and Gavi are almost even in the "come here, go away" game, but Rod is waaay ahead of her.
He has believed every bad thing said about her, starting with thinking she was in a brothel in Europe, which led to his marrying Isa the day he was s'posed to reunite with Gavi, all the way to Aron's lies about Dr. Santovenia in the hotel.
So, I wouldn't put Gavi in the "girls in high school" category. I guess she should have gotten herself to a nunnery (or a mistress apt. )to save Rod from his own jealousy.
He's a jealous, insecure mess, who would make her life an infierno if he married her at this point.
She was right to be "harta de" Rod and Dr. S acting so childishly.
Gavi wants Rod to trust he and act like a mature person.
She should have cut him loose months and months ago, and told him to call her when he was divorced and grown up.

Politely put, she's not the brightest woman about men or love, so, of course, she didn't believe Dr. S was interested in her until recently, or that Rod would be bothered by that, since that interest wasn't reciprocal (reciprocated?).

The defense rests.
No cross examination allowed and no rebuttals, please. ;)

Rod does have a great smile.

I'm wondering just exactly what these so called sessions are going to consist of? How much therapeutic discussion could there be and how many actual hours of discussion could there be before you run out of specific questions and all variety of answers? Rod doesn't exactly seem the type to sit and read a book and contemplate the nature of the universe despite his PhD; his character has never opened a newspaper that I can tell; he has no interest in sports or stocks or politics. I mean, they are in a resort area and he is not planning on being stuck inside 4 walls 10-12 hours a day like at a business meeting discussing strategy, P & L statements or running through business scenario role plays. How long before Rod's thoughts run to sightseeing in romantic places accompanied by somebody with frilly frocks and suntanned leggy legs?

Personally, I think Rod's going to become another cruel Manuel-type and enjoy the hell out of his relationship with Dr. Erika. I agree with Sistah Val's cynical interpretation. Erika's never taken a peso from him and has hinted rather openly that she's interested in him as "Erika", the amiga that he's been needing. He's already probably thinking to himself that with amigas like that, who needs Gaviotas? Now, what I'm waiting for is down the road when Erika learns Gaviota's true identity and the two come face to face as rivals.

Gracias, Julie y Caray amigas(os), for the excellent recap and comments. The Dr. Erika diary entry was too funny. How would Rod's treatment be going if instead of Erika he had the therapist from the Geico caveman commercials?
Others commented on the push/pull of Gavi's "go away, come closer" dynamic with Rod. I guess I'll put my frustration away and just look forward to the tequila recipes.

Anon. 6:18 PM --LOLOL!

p.s. - Speaking of tequila recipes, I half expected Mariana to put in a call to Benni to fly over from Paris. Besides, doesn't he own the restaurant at the resort where Erika and Rod are to be doing their "treat and retreat"?

Jardinera---I know that Benni introduced Gavi to Erika , but I can't remember if it was at The Last Resort Resort. What name did he use to introduce her to Erika???..Theresa or Mariana or Gaviota ????

Great recap Julie, gracias.

Erika's plan is incomprehensible right now, but I just don't have the feeling she's trying to seduce him. I think she really does want to help. The story lines have been wild, yet somehow predictable, and I just don't see her trying to have a romantic relationship with him. She may enjoy the view, she is a living, breathing woman after all, but I think that's as far as it will go. I think Rod will develop a little crush on her just so he can see he is normal. And then Rod & Gavi can live happily ever after without any doubts.

Maybe Benni will do the catering for the wedding reception when Gavi and Rod finally marry - as we know they will. Dr. S will supply the coffee, Aron has a surplus of Turquesa, which he will donate to the cause. Erika will be the premarital counselor, Rod's "not his son" son will be the little ring bearer.
Dani as bridesmaid, James is best man. Minnie will be in Spain with her suddenly taken ill "tia".
The rehearsal dinner will be held in the cantina, the bride-to- be will serenade her groom, accompanied by mariachis and tequila shooters.
Now, is it tux or cowboy formal for Rod, white for Gavi? What about the flowers? The veil, of course, with an agave crown.
They exit the ceremony under raised machetes forming an arch.
Counting down the days....

Thank you Julie for this wonderfully funny recap.

...novelty dissolving balls the wizard gave him as a joke.....Priceless!

Love the diary Sistah Val. Very creative.

Natural beauty has always been better in my book. And, dark native
Latin males and Females are beautiful works of art by GOD!
Isa(the part) looks too plastic.
Where is the real beauty under all
that fakeness. In all things and people. I want the REAL!

Susanlynn: I thought she'd already changed her name to Mariana legally and had told that to Benni. Also, IMO it would make sense if he'd used her formal name to introduce her to a professional person, not a nickname like "Gaviota" and therefore, Erika would have no clue as to who Gaviota really is now that it is the only way Rod has been referring to her.
