Destilando Amor, 11/9/07 -- The Big Brush Off: Bumped, Dumped and Stumped in the D.F.

Rod tries to let Erika down gently. He lets Erika know that although he still is in love with Gavi he certainly never wanted to deceive her (yeah, just to diddle her not addle her) and he certainly never tried to use her (but now he wants to disabuse her and to lose her). Erika says she knew getting involved with him was a lost cause from the start, since she knew already he was never going to stop loving Gaviota. She just couldn't stop herself and now she's failed him.

For Rod, he says she was not a failure. Erika is a wonderful psychologist and a beautiful and enticing woman and they shared some pretty marvellous moments together (Ow! Even if it was true, Rod. Sheesh.) She freed him of his jealous obsession and helped him out of the chaos his life had fallen into. She's shown him that it wasn't a sexual hang-up or a psychological problem, just one seriously big bad bite from the love bug. After seeing Gaviota last night at the restaurant he knew he could never forget her. He tells Erika that he is so sorry he's hurt her over this.

They cannot part without one final hug and they share a strong brotherly-sisterly hug and cheek smooch. "Hasta pronto" (See ya later).....er...."Hasta siempre," (Farewell!)

Now Erika shares another "Aha!" moment and like the good Girl Scout deep down that she really is, asks Rod why doesn't he go look for Gavi. "--What? Go chasing after her?" "--You just can't let her leave like that!" "--If there's one thing you taught me it was that I should not chase after her and try to force her into anything. She'll have to make the decision to come back to me by herself." Erika warns Rod this is a very risky move and he agrees, but it's a risk he'll have to take. He kisses her hand and leaves her to her tears without even a mention of giving him back that Tequila manufacturer's award that really belongs to Gavi.

Across town at the CRT Department of Public Relations:

Alonso informs Nancy that they all three now have something to celebrate. She will be the new Assistant Director of P.R. at the CRT in Mexico City when he and Gavi leave for London and they invite her over to Gavi's apartment for a dinner cooked by Santoveñia himself to celebrate all this good news. The promotion makes Nancy happy for all of about a minute then she remembers the big change it means for all of them. She says thanks, but she's feeling too depressed to celebrate with them and goes off in another tearful funk-fest. Gavi tells Alonso she's going to miss Nancy a lot when she leaves.
==============

At the family's quarterly stockholders' meeting, Bruno and Grammy P. wish Aaron and Rod the best of luck in their decision as businessmen to become independent entrepreneurs. Rod and Aaron present the details of the past year up through the moment Rod handed over the business formally to Aaron, and Bruno congratulates him on the magnificent job he's done running the company in Aaron's absence. He informs them all that as Aaron has bought out the others in the corporation, Aaron is now the sole owner and director of Montalvo Corp, whereas now Rod has begun his own tequila enterprise.

Aaron announces afterward that he and Minnie are expecting again and in five months there will be a little Aaron for them to all love. Minnie starts to grandstand and say that although some in the family are unhappy with this, Isa's doing was not her fault, but Bruno stops her short. Aaron laughs that this baby will be a natural-born son and will carry the Montalvo genes so, in poor taste, he offers a champagne toast to "the call of the blood" (the sixth sense of being drawn to a person that is an unknown blood relative) but as this is a direct insult to Rod's being so clueless about Ricky, he, Dani and Sofia refuse to join in.
================

Meanwhile, Gavi calls Margarita to ask Nestor Videgaray to call her regarding their decision about "Los Mirasoles" when he's free after the meeting and she apologizes if she got her good bud in trouble. Margarita says Rod was pretty decent about it all, and although she ended up admitting to him that she was the one who gave Gavi the name and address of the restaurant, he didn't seem too upset over it. He's even taking her with him to the new company as his personal secretary.

Gavi deflates with this bit of news and tells herself that if Rod didn't seem upset with Margarita telling Gavi where to find him the night before, it had to be because she doesn't matter to him anymore; and he must be enjoying himself way too much with the erotic Erika.

In his office Rod tells Dani it's strange how Gavi seems to know every little detail about his personal and professional life and is wondering how she does it. (Ok, ok. Here we get a long shot of Dani in the cutest gray suede vest and black mini-skirt, but even the hubster had to ask who was tokin' on the wacky weed this time in costuming. What in the world were they thinking when they recycled that black gauze bustle debacle and decided to put a see-through, midi-style overskirt on her with it?) Dani is encouraged and excitedly asks if this means he's talked to her recently or seen her. He says yep, and it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience, either. So Dani wants all the juicy details and Rod dishes her the dirt.

In the meantime Gavi speaks to Nestor and asks his help in donating the hacienda to some charitable cause. She explains that she and Clarita are plain tired of it all, that Aaron was in her office at the CRT earlier insulting her mother and threatening to challenge Amador's will, so they just want shed of it.
==========

In his office Rod is explaining to Dani that he figures if Gavi is convinced that her future is in London with Alonso he will not oppose her decision to leave. Dani scolds him for being so darned stubborn and just allowing her to leave like this. She asks him if it's because he's still raving about his psychologist, especially after spending the night with her in her apartment. He says sure he spent the night there, but it wasn't the way she thinks. He cannot deny she was an exciting prospect and that he felt something with her he'd only ever felt with Gaviota, but he knows that it was an attraction but nothing to do with love.

"So, you're still in love with Gavi and as far as she's concerned you're still the only man in her life!" "--Hah! It's apparently clear what she wants in her future. Anyway, she got tired of my immaturity and my jealousies. I understand. It's okay. She knows what she wants, on the other hand, my life is full of problems and complications."

Dani interjects here that whether Rod believes it or not, this separation has been extremely painful for Gavi. She makes him realize that Gavi has always cared enough to want to be kept up to date and in the know about the things going on in his life. "Her leaving for London depends on you. There's still time. She hasn't (as far as she knows) given her response to the CRT about leaving yet." He balks. "Rodrigo, what's the matter? Are you waiting for her to get down on her knees to you, or what?"

Rod explains that if Gavi wants to go with Santoveñia he won't stop her. On the other hand, it'll have to be her decision. If she's really in love with him and she feels their love is worth the effort then she will decide to stay without anyone having to force her.

Videgaray comes in then and informs Rod about Gavi's call and their decision to donate the hacienda for a charitable cause. He explains that it's due to the problem she's been having with Aaron and his threat that morning to challenge the will and sue her and her mother.
=========

In their presidential suite downtown, Frankie is speaking with Montesinos, trying to sweeten the pot again in order to persuade the attorney to at least get a hefty monthly support payment for Isa and the baby (and him) while they wait to win their judgment from the courts.

Ricky won't stop crying for some reason while Frankie is on the phone and Isa tells him afterward that it's because he misses his home and probably Rod, too. Frankie gets jealous when he hears this and says he's the kid's daddy, not that jerk, Rod. So she tells him to act like it and puts the crying kid into his arms while she takes a well deserved break. --Yeah, it's been a real pain being without Enriqueta to cover as nanny, maid and cook these last couple of days and it seems that gradually the glamorous life is making it's way to the exit for Ricky's mama.
=========

Over at Montalvo Corp., Rod races back into the meeting room to raise holy Hell with Aaron for threatening Gavi and insulting her mother. He makes a grab for Aaron, but Bruno manages to stop him. To Aaron: "Why don't you repeat for the whole family what you told Mariana Franco and how you are threatening to contest the will!!" Pilar wants an explanation immediately if not quicker.

No phones are handy and Aaron makes for the nearest thing and pens and pencils go flying. Aaron screams at her and the others in his petty privileged pique that he only told them to give back what doesn't rightly belong to them, not being Montalvos. "That's it. That was all!" Rod is enraged even further, "No that's not all! You told them you were challenging the will because mistresses don't have rights!"

Rod looks menacingly around at them all. "If you want to be left in peace then you'd better not get into it with Gaviota!" To Aaron: "She'd rather hand the hacienda over to charity before giving it back to you. Don't you mess with her, because I'll break. your. neck!" He storms out and slams the door. Pilar finally manages to emote in this scene and it looks like she's telling Amador she's ready for "the big one."
==============

Back in her office Gavi tells Nancy that she doesn't want to take anything with her to London that will remind her of Rod, so she asks her to hang onto the seagull painting for her. Nancy cannot believe it but Gavi says she's going to have to learn to live without Rodrigo Montalvo.

Pilar calls up Clarita and tells her on behalf of the entire Montalvo family and herself she must apologize for the rude way that Aaron treated Gavi and her recently over Los Mirasoles. She asks her again to think about keeping it. Clarita accepts her apologies, says she has no problems with the Montalvos, but at times cannot believe Aaron is actually her grandson. At any rate, she has decided to donate Los Mirasoles in a cause that Amador, QEPD, would feel very satisfied to know, since it will be for (supposedly single/abused) women in the area who work the land, and for their children.
===========

Rod asks Padre Cosme to submit the paperwork to Videgaray for the annulment of his marriage and to hand it over to Videgaray when they discuss the transfer of the hacienda. Nestor comes in then and they agree to meet with Isa's lawyer the next day at noon, a couple of hours before his flight to Los Cabos.

Pilar, Dani and Sofia come in and ask for a chat. They ask Rod to go after Gavi and to speak with her since his future love life is in the balance. Sofia apologizes and says she was naive to fall under the influence of the likes of Isa and the others in plotting to keep Gavi and him apart. She explains they understand she's going to relocate to London for business reasons, and that he's thinking to just let her go, but she thinks it would be sad to let a love like theirs end this way. She's feeling guilty for her part in separating the two of them.

Rod asks if she's only saying this to clear her guilty conscience but Sofia insists she's come to recognize what a great person Gaviota is, especially since in spite of everything she's still in love with him. Pilar adds then that to gamble with his love life like this for whatever reason, would appear to show Mariana how little she matters to him. So, he really should reconsider.
==========

That night up in Gavi's apartment Alonso plays chef for Clarita and Gavi (shades of Benvenuto). Clarita has whispered something to her that makes her realize Rod knows she's being transferred to London but apparently doesn't care enough to want to talk her out of it.

Rod has stayed late in his office lost in thought supposedly about his next step with Gavi. He pours himself a shot of Ardent Passion thinking to drink himself into blue funked oblivion again, but decides against it and leaves with something in mind.
=======

Minnie and Aaron are back in the penthouse when Minnie gives him her ultimatum: stop with the affairs or she leaves and he loses his son forever. Aaron heels.
========

Up in their apartment Clarita has gone to bed. Alonso excitedly insists that Gavi and he will get on great together in London and he will show her how to love it. He promises to make her dark days and memories of the place disappear and swears the whole city will be at her feet. There will be no more 18 hour workdays.

Yeah, all that wine at dinner and the tequila chasers afterward have really loosened the old stuffed shirt. Alonso gets so carried away he tells her he's certain that after a few days she'll learn to love it and him and then makes the mistake of kissing her on the lips. RUh-roh, Alonso. Big no-no. Bad boy! Bad boy knows he made big boo-boo. Gavi suddenly looks confused and a bit surprised and she is definitely not responding the way poor Alonso had imagined it and he is big-time embarrassed impactado.

Alonso for once is speechless. He recovers and says it's his fault and it was all because of a bad misunderstanding on his part.

Meanwhile Rod pulls up outside with a huge beautiful bouquet of roses. He gets out of his car and as he walks towards the building's entrance he sees Alonso's truck. Rod immediately thinks the worst since the lights appear to be off. "Dammit all! I am such an idiot!" It seems Erika should've refunded Rod the big bucks she charged him for that lost weekend in Cuernavaca, cuz now Rod is as full of rage and jealous as ever and he takes the roses and beats them to pieces against Alonso's truck. Then he throws what's left of the mess on the ground near the driver's side door and drives off in a huff; but I suppose we should be glad that at least he's made enough progress under Erika's short-term care that he didn't stick around to try to make minced-meat of Alonso, too.

Upstairs disillusioned Dr. Dud wants seriously to find a hole and pull it in after him. He says it was his problem that he'd hoped Gavi was over Rod and that they might start over as a couple in London. Finally Gavi realizes she must save herself from a man whose life and lifestyle are as dreary and depressing as London's famous fog, cuz even though England may swing like a pendulum do, it's painfully obvious that the Doctor of Dullsville does not. So, Gavi finally spells it all out for him and says she ought to have been clear with him from the beginning. When she accepted the transfer to London with him she didn't mean that she would necessarily forget about Rodrigo.

She gives him the Big Boy Brush Off. "Doctor, any woman would be proud to be at the side of a man so honest and upright, so intelligent and respectful and so polite." (Wooh! This is brutal. Notice not a word about being handsome or sexy or charming. --Sorry, dude.) Her heart though is promised to another and it prevents her from loving anyone else. So, knowing how uncomfortable it could be, if he'd rather, she is offering to refuse the transfer and the new position.

Alonso assures her that dating him was not a condition for getting the job. They made a good team professionally and that would be unfair to her. He swallows his battered pride. "I understand. I'm sorry." He asks her to forgive him and says good night. Outside, next to his truck, he sees the destroyed bouquet of roses that Rod left like a dog having marked his territory, and he realizes then that he'd never be able to shake Rodrigo Montalvo off the scent.

Upstairs, Clarita and Gavi share a bit of "I told you so and so now what?"
===========

After a full day of being stuck in the hotel room with a crying and screaming child, Isa finally gets Ricky to sleep. Frankie tries to seduce Isa with a massage, but Ricky immediately starts crying again. Since the baby comes first the moment is lost. The great de la Vega, being a one-trick pony is programmed for only one thing and Frankie comes to the realization that it ain't being Family Man.
==========

It's a Tequila sunrise. Gavi is leaving for a short day at work and Avellaneda has given her the next couple of days to get her personal life in order and to get ready for the big move. Padre Cosme arrives for his meeting there with Nestor to settle the transfer of the hacienda. She leaves and he thanks Clarita and tells her that God will reward her generosity. Vidagaray arrives then and when Clarita goes for her purse, Padre Cosme hands over the papers for Rod's marriage annulment. He tells Nestor that considering Rod's situation, the Church should only take a few days to grant it. Clarita overhears the two of them and she smiles to herself.

Isa tells Montesinos that she will not accept Rod's conditions and since he was the one wanting this separation for long time now she does not agree that it will slow down the legal proceedings.

Montesino leaves. Frankie shows up and asks what they discussed. Isa explains that Rod wants to talk to her father as part of the conditions for a divorce. She figures he'll have to give in on the demand to retain paternity and to get custody. Frankie changes the subject and says he's broken off with his "parents" and won't lower himself to ask for any help from them. However, he says he's got an appointment with the guy who heads the top car company in the country. He promises to do right by her and the baby.

In Avellaneda's office Alonso thanks him for transferring him to Madrid instead of to London and keeping Olivarria in London as the delegate. Alonso apologizes for the last minute request, but is certain Mariana will be more comfortable this way. He leaves and Avellaneda shakes his head at the sacrifices love causes people to make. (Literally, "Love plays havoc with those who suffer from it.")

Rod talks to James about the transfer of Los Mirasoles and tells him that he's leaving on the 2:00 flight to Los Cabos. He's worried about the outbreak of erguina but James assures him that that was taken care of and has been cleared up. James wonders if he's leaving without at least talking to Gavi first. Rod explains he tried to speak to her but failed since Santoveñia got there first and she took him up to the apartment. He figures its obvious her life is set in stone now. It is just too difficult for him to talk about it. Rod says good-bye and hangs up. Just then Roman rushes in with the news that they've discovered another outbreak of the infestation. He and James race out to take care of it.
=========

Alonso informs Gavi that he asked to be transferred to Madrid instead, since after what happened the night before it would be very uncomfortable for the two of them together in London. It's a done deal and he leaves in a couple of hours. He's sent Olivarria an e-mail telling him what a great addition she'll be for him. He says not to worry about him; he is certain that he'll get over it soon enough. He leaves and for once Gavi is the one who is left speechless.

Wonderful, thorough and accurate recap as always, Jarinera. A couple of observations: we may have solved the mystery of the big-headed baby--its a well made plastic doll with realistic arm and foot action. Quite logical, since it came from a plastic pregnant tummy and must suckle on silicone implants. The bald big--head "baby" Isa was carrying in a horizontal position at the hotel was NOT the dark-haired child sitting in her lap during the restaurant scene, (gazing at all the busy people with cameras and wondering when the annoying bright lights would go off.)
Second: Rene Strickler was charming and appealing in this episode. His transformation from enthusiastic would-be lover to chastened also-ran was nuanced and believable. I like Dr. Coffee, always have.

lewAnother clever recap, Jardinera. Thank you.

The horse of Rod and Gavi not comunicating is DEAD. It died a long time ago. Get on with the story.

Dr Bland is boring and I hope we see no more of him.

Isa will end up with much less than she expects (like nothing). But Rod will take care of the child somehow, so maybe she will get something.

Wonder what deal Francisco is into?

Aaron will definitely get a girl.

Where did Pamela go? Same place as Acacia?

Desti and Mel: Thanks again!! I apologize if you read the "first draft" version and saw all the typos and extraneous words I'd forgotten to erase. It's finalized now!
====
Had to laugh about the silicone breasts and the plastic baby born of simulacrum stomachs needing to suckle from same! I admit I caught myself wondering about that shiny plastic-looking oversized scalp during their hotel-room fight scene. And yes, I've never made any bones either over my attraction to the very relishable Rene! Dr. Bland is boring, but blonde men for me never are!
======
Yes, let's hope that dead horse finally gets made into dog food. It's long overdue! ? ; 3 ))

Thank you Jardiniera - you put some life into this chapter. Don't you think Minnie is faking it again - she just bought a better counterfeit. With both Rod and Gavi at the airport at the same time and seeing each other, let's hope they spend the last 15 (?) episodes planning their wedding, 'cause this cat and mouse game is just silly. See Diego and Azul in Amar Sin Limites. Same deal. From lower Ala

Rene did a pretty good job of conveying his emotional swing. I actually felt sorry for the sap. He never read the signals right and obviously like Rod never learned a thing about patience. I was kind of hoping after he saw the battered flowers he would either call Rod or try and find him to tell him the truth. I kept thinking we have a perfect Aldo moment here.

Looks like the doctors have now split for other novela assignments as the leads or semi leads they usually are. But what is going on with the missing - Acacia, Pammie and her vengaqnza, big head Hil and his cheap harem.

Someone posted that Pirates is being shortened. I have to wonder what is worse in story telling abruptly cutting them short or dragging them out with useless twaddle?

Jardinera, Thanks for the masterful recap wrapping up an long week with never enough anvils dropping to suit me! I think Alonso/Rene is an appealing person. Too bad he is also Mr. Dullsville in the script. I too think his gallant recovery and execution of Plan B was well acted.
According to the telenovela magazine I read sometime ago, there are at least three babies used during all these scenes. I do hope the crying was a sound track. Even though he looks stuffed, I'm sure Big-head is really cute when animated and I wouldn't want to think about him suffering although I did like thinking about him raising the hackles on Frankie's neck all the time. Frankie and Isa do sooooooo deserve each other. Frankie stays so deeply in character, the fantasies he spins just never end nor resemble reality in the least.

I do hope Erika sends back the tequila award, she should have never been given it. I wish Gavi wasn't so pig-headed about Las Mirasoles, Clarita doesn't have a prayer of ever having something of her very own. At least she made sure the greedy Aaron didn't get his dirty hands on it....Hurray for the Women's Home idea.

I forgot that I meant to ask deciegirl: what sites do you visit and is the pessimistic view of Pasión being shortened already come from a source who would actually know?? Those of us waiting with tingling anticipation of sailing on the Colunga ship are saddened to hear bad news when it hasn't even started here. Anyway, are you the person who said she hangs out on some of the Spanish blogs to read the Mexican reactions?? Please share the URL's, inquiring Pirates wanna know!
Captain Ethel Bonney here! Where's my grog tankard?

If you can read Spanish well, check out this website about Pasion:
http://www.casatelenovela.com/2007/10/el_barco_de_la_telenovela_pasi.html

Sorry that URL code keeps getting cut off. But if you just go to casatelenovela.com and scroll down, you will see an entry whose title translates to: Is Pasion's Boat Sinking? I think it was written October 13th.

Thanks so much Jardinera! Although the charity sounds like a worthy cause, I’m sorry to see Clarita give away her land. I kind of feel she was pushed into it by Gavi’s prideful protests, although I guess Clarita’s at peace with the decision.

I was also disappointed Erika didn’t give the award back to Rod, but maybe she’ll take it to Gavi herself. Or maybe she won’t, but at this point I don’t think Rod or Gavi are overly concerned about remembering the past – they’re both looking to the future, both personally and professionally.

Jardinera, I was sorry not to see your name on the list of scheduled recappers for Pasion. I’m going to try it, although I’m not sure it will be my cup of tea. I love British and American period films – the costumes, architecture and general ambience, so hopefully I’ll enjoy Pasion – I need continued daily practice with espanol. I will miss (in more than one way!) the great details you always provide, like the “call of the blood”. That went completely over my head!

Rhonda: Thank you so much but, yes I am the recapper for Monday's Pasión capítulo. Don't know why you thought otherwise.

That casa critic is pretty brutal, but I wonder about the writer being pro-Telemundo for some reason. Anyway, if folks are sticking with Juan and Amar-Sin I hoping/figuring it can't be as bad as all that. I understand that many times they'll do what the critic is suggesting in it and rework the plot. I can't imagine Estrada not doing something like that. Perhaps it's a trial balloon or something for the public?

Jardinera - I double checked to make sure my english comprehension hadn't decreased with my focus on learning spanish... :)

Melinama's comment on Fri Nov 9 6:15 under the Latin Grammys entry listed "Keri" on Monday. Sorry if I outed you!

Outed as in your name is really Keri - even I was confused when I re-read my comment.

You're right, Jardinera, a lot of the Mexican bloggers who dump on Televisa's productions are really pimpin' for TVAzteca. The funniest quote I read about Pasion from a blogger translates as "The real villain of this novela is the hairdresser--he makes all the women wear wedding cakes several stories high . . ." (pasteles de boda de vario pisos in las cabezas)

Thanks Jardinera for another recap that was better than the story. yawn... did ya think that the shrink lady really was in love? how much time did she even spend together with Big Rod????

And why did Rod de-flower the truck? He's gotta know that Santa O was not going to do the seagull on a twin bed, next to Clarita. or maybe he was visioning the almost sofa sex with the sexy shrink. Had he been Aaron, he would have checked the back seat. no, these former jimadoras are mujeres decentes.

VV.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. I really enjoyed your perspective. As DA winds down, one can only hope that the "reunions" and "paybacks" are worth the long frustrating episodes we had to sit through. I must say I admired Dr. Santovena when he calmly and caringly told Gavi about his change of plans. No need in beating a dead horse, even though in time he could've probably won Gavi over. I don't think her speech the night before was totally in vain, and those qualities of his she pointed out to him could've one day become very appealing to her. But this is Rod's and Gavi's story.

It will be interesting to see how they resolve Frankie's many betrayals and lies. I don't think he'll be allowed to live because jail would give him time to redeem himself, and he's unredeemable.

All that's really left is the "comeuppance" of Aaron, his slimy sidekick and partner in crime, and Minnie and Fedra. Isa is living her own personal hell right now, but doesn't realize it yet. I do feel sorry for Bruno, though, he's a good man, and his son is sure to be more and more of a disappointment.

Lisa from Alpena

Rhonda: no hay problema. Most of the recappers know since it appears on the group e-mails Melinama sends out to us from time to time.
========
Not all the tartas de vaca have hit the fan yet. We still have Isa's dalliances with Hilario and Aaron to come to light, along with Pamela's wrath of the woman scorned, fraud trials for selling tampered-with tequila and unjust jailtime during those, Acacia's doing or undoing, finding out for sure who Ricky's baby daddy is, and I don't think we've seen the last of the erguina outbreaks on Montalvo land, the payoff of the loan and Ricardo's run-in with Rod, Rod and Gavi's making up and grand union.

P.S. Somebody wanted previews explained on Wed.'s site's posting.

Dani calls Gavi to let her know that Erika got dumped by Rod and so it is now up to her to go after him. Erika visits Gavi to apologize and tell her she tried but couldn't get Rod to forget Gavi and she needs to go after him. Gavi races to the airport but misses his flight. The next scene somewhere is in a bar/restaurant ordering tequila when the waitress tells her a man is ordering the same thing, only triple-faced instead of the regular "two-faced" (referring perhaps to her 3-timing him or escaping him for a 3rd time?). She hears the man yell for the waitress and it sounds like Rod's voice so Gavi gets up to look for him and they bump into each other.

Thanks, Jardinera for another excellent recap. Looks like Rod is back to his usual temper tantrums. So much for Dr. E.'s therapy sessions. I guess the pajama parties and resort holidays didn't work their magic on Rod. So what's this job Frankie is trying to line up???...parking cars?? washing cars??? stealing cars??? Isadora is probably starting to see the corner that she has painted herself into with Smarmy. Que lastima. I think that she really loves her baby, but she's used to handing him off to someone and now there is no one to hand him off to. I can't see Frankie changing diapers. And so it goes.

Tks, susanlynn! I was tempted to think it could be the largest used car dealer in the country, knowing how Frankie loves to twist the truth into knots. That would have been too stellar, don't ya think?

"He's gotta know that Santa O was not going to do the seagull on a twin bed, next to Clarita." LOL, VV! Loved that visual!!

I must admit..I loved the Bland/Gavi kiss..like I said before..if Gavi hasn't felt the need to breed, she ain't ever gonna feel it with the Dr...Awkward to say the least...

I hate that Rod got to have almost hawt couch sex with Erika, but Gavi got the chicken kiss..(for any of you who watch Gray's..he kisses like George).

Now as for Rod not have a sexual problem..sorry I still don't buy it. I mean in a perfect world, yes men would only be armed and dangerous around women they were extremely attracted to, however this is not a perfect world. So Rod is like 45 and has gotten aroused by 2 women in his entire life? Let us not forget he is good looking and wealthy, therefore I am sure women were after him. Rod is like the Abstience Only daughter everyone wants...but doesn't get.

The Blah Bland Blondie kiss was a definite downer. As for Rod's rod, well at least he knows that he may be u-nique, but at least he isn't a eu-nuch.

Now as for chicken pecks...peckers, I don't even wanna go there!

Great job Jardinera! I appreciate all the details of the dialog.

I'm still hoping Pam can swing a prison sentence for Aaron before she moves on to the next novela.

What really amazes me, is that Isa can manage to put on those layers of makeup and do her hair, nails, etc. while Ricky takes a nap...

"Abstinence only Daughters, Doing the seagull on a twin bed and so down the slippery slope to chicken peck(ers). Since the story is going down hill faster than the commenter language, this is the funniest Saturday recap/comment combination.

and Destilando Cafe, thanks for the casatelenovela.com site. It is pretty interesting. The author on sinking ship piece is an interesting writer. I agree with her assessment of Esclava Isaura being so good (but gawd, it's been cruel at times as only slave owners could be), She dissed Pecados Ajenos for being too action packed right from the first night, but I like that about it so, I will reserve judgement on her view of Pasión, it seems really personal as you suggested. I am an independant Pirate Lassie anyhoo...
Ethel Bonney here bidding you a fond good night. May your dreams be groggy and ....

I hate it that the corporativo is now just Aaron's playground, although I guess it will have to be destroyed anyway because of the "irregularities" that have yet to blow up. I guess Amador's real legacy is the land. And hopefully a future generation of descendants who are a little more rational and loyal to family than the current generation!

I admit I haven't watched a ton of telenovelas, but so far I have yet to see one that wouldn't have benefited from some... let's call it editing, as in, tell the same story in a shorter amount of time. So if Pasion does get scrunched it might be a good thing.

I like the idea of Frankie selling used cars, except I don't know if you could get him to wear a plaid green polyester suit. (Memories of my first car-shopping experience...)

As for Isa, I think she's dealing with her situation pretty well, considering. I don't mean the situation of thinking she's going to get some money out of Rodrigo - that's insane - but I mean she's coping fairly well with the baby and the lack of income. You can't expect her to go from being a wealthy no-time caregiver to an indigent full-time caregiver overnight without hitting a few snags, and it's not unreasonable for her to expect Frankie to pitch in a little bit. (Unrealistic yes, unreasonable no. :) And it's heartening to see that she's aware that they need to spend less. Yes I know that's a simple concept for most of us, but for someone who grew up thoroughly spoiled and irresponsible she seems to have a decent grasp of how these things work.

The three-faced tequila thing: that means a triple-shot (just in case that wasn't clear). Y'know, if these characters were to sober up for a few days, they might become capable of rational thought. But who wants that, right?

Hey, Julie! Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if I would have ever caught that about the double and triple shots. I made a mental connections straight to the two and three-timing cheats we spend our time kvetching about in these things.

Polyester plaid pants. Now, those were all the rage when the hubster and I dated back in the early '70's. Course, back then I suppose I was more interested in him out of those things than in them.....

Beckster and Jardinera, You are getting each other all stirred up with the chicken kisses [not to be confused with widemouth bass kisses] and Rod's problemos. As I stated before, the concept of a guy only being able to perform with una mujer is an interesting idea. No worries about cheating. And Gavi should have told Dr. Coffee loooong ago, ''I like you, but I just don't LIKE YOU like you.'' Some guys just do not take the hint and you just can't be subtle. Dr. , it is just not going to happen for you...ever....so you go get a big cuppa java, Honey. Rod has his mojo working and his mind's made up to have HER. Enjoy Madrid.

You know, Jardinera, you may be on to something there... wearing deliberately ugly clothes in the hopes that someone will be more motivated to remove them... hmmmm...

Plaid polyester suits were long out of fashion by the time I was ready to buy my first car, but seeing as how the cars were secondhand, perhaps the suits were too...

This is off the DA subject..but for those of you who are interested James Michener wrote "Mexico", it is a book which goes into great detail about the social structure of Mexico. I read it when it came out in 92. It details how the top of the system were the children of persons born in Spain, then people with one parent from Spain on down to 100% Indians. I think too, the reason Mexico is so mixed is that the conquerors were Catholic and according to the Church, it was alright to breed with Indians as long as they converted. You see the same thing in French Canada..the English (not to say they didn't mix with Indians), but not to the degree the French/Spanish & later Irish did, was because they were Protestant and believed Indians were subhuman. Also they were puritans and really didn't like having sex with each other much less strangers. I kinda hope this Pirate thing gives some factual background & the men don't cry.

I just had a big "Aha!" moment about something in Jardinera's masterful recap: "Clarita accepts [Dona Pilar's] apologies... but at times cannot believe Aaron is actually her grandson." Could it be that the shifty-eyed Fedra committed an indiscretion and that Aaron wouldn't even be eligible to produce the varon?

Thanks for all your great work, my Spanish is improving; I am addicted to the nine o'clock spot for my Spanish fix. I say bring on those pirates!

Agnes

Bckster^^^The Michener book was interesting, but it sort of gave me a headache the way that it jumped back and forth in time. I thought the part about the silver mines and the Catholic church was very interesting. I also seem to rememeber that unlike the colonists to the U.S. who came here and stayed, the Spanish often stayed for awhile then returned to Spain. Good point about the Puritans not even having sex with each other !!

Yes, Agnes, I bet Clarita is just introducing us to the possibility that Aaron is not a blood grandson of Amador. Interesting. I hope some more anvils start falling faster.

Agnes: I see you caught that also! I was wondering if it wasn't a bit of foreshadowing myself.

Speaking of Anvils: Another alarmbell has gone off in my brain also: Jose is now working in a much fancier hotel and Isa doesn't know that Pancho is from the "lower classes", let alone that her precious baby's paternal grandmother is an illiterate maid and could possibly be working in that very hotel!! Holy Rascuache Ranchero, Batman!!

I stumbled on a posting about Pirates that indicated the theme song is pretty good and the first episode has an Alborada vibe (well if you have to swipe from something steal from a good one).

Also Pasions began in mid September and was supposed to end in February. If the rumored cut back to January is true that makes it a 4 to 5 month novela. Praise the Lord just long enough to get interesting and not dragged out with new people and actors coming and going like a revolving door like this one and Duelo.

I've always found the historicals to be shorter and more concise. Probably because they are more costly, much more costly to produce.

Im a little confused. Someone gave a synopsis of the previews and they weren't anything of what I thought I saw; however, it did go fast. I thought rod was in an office at a desk and gavi was in an office at a desk. He wants the senorita to get him a drink. I thought then that gavi heard his voice and got up to see and finds rod. I was assuming that they winded up in the same job.

Does anyone know what happened to Fridays omar sin limites?? was waiting to see what happen when diago and asul got back home and I am finding nothing on the recaps.

Keep watching Univision as the DA promos/previews will be on many times. I trust that the little synopsis I gave you is 90% correct. Julie corrected the double and triple "cara" info, as they were asking in the same bar for a double shot and a triple shot of tequila from the same bottle from the waitress who only had one to pour from I believe.

Great job Jardinera. I'm very happy to see you on the Pasión recap roster.

I very much like the thought of Aaron not being an eligible heir. Ooooh, he really will pop a blood vessel or maybe his head will explode once and for all. Can't wait for him to get what he deserves!

This is off subject, but I wanted to thank Destilando Cafe and Jardinera for suggesting Destinos as a good spanish learning tool several months ago. I just finished the last episodio today (I bought a used textbook and new workbooks to go along with the free online videos). Great information like this is only one of the wonderful things about this site.

I feel like I learned alot from Destinos and even got into the storyline - I had a three kleenex moment with Don Fernando at the end.

Glad to hear it. Although I don't teach Spanish anymore, language teaching has come a long way since I parroted those ALM dialogs in high school.

Tks, Sylvia! Glad to see you're gonna sail along with us!

Rhonda: I came across this site just today and though I am still 13 or 14 episodios away from finishing Destinos (I save it for rainy and cold afternoons a few at a time), I thought of you for this new site. Part is free and the other is not. You can learn on-line and do the reading both for free in certain sections. It's a great review and full of new vocabulary. There is always new vocabulary no matter what you choose. So, you or others might be interested in the free sections.

Thanks yet again Jardinera!

I've always suspected that Aaron isn't a Montalvo. For me the big mystery is... who the heck would sleep with Fedra? (Besides Bruno, supposedly... unless he's got the same problem as Rodrigo, and Fedra had to pass Aaron off as a "fertility treatment" ;)

beckster: I read a number of Michener's tomes, like Centennial and Tejas, and one or two more, but I don't remember reading that one. Usually his things were terrific historical epics. I may pick it up now just for grins, considering.

pasofino: (Beautiful horse with a great disposition and a marvelous gait) Though I left out that detail in the recap (it was long enough as is) Minnie says she went to Houston to make sure, but again, this could be real and just in time to have a twist like Fedra fooling around on Bruno..... Now what would that do to the fortune? Would it all revert to Rod, period? Even though Minnie might be lying about the gender, it wouldn't matter at that point. Just a guess, dunno.

Actually, it's Aaron who is lying about the gender. Minerva told him upfront that the position of the child in the ultrasound did not make sex identification possible. And I think it's safe to conclude that everybody's parentage is known by now.

Desti:
Yes, I remember that from Wed.'s, but simply wasn't sure where they were going with this because she just went along with it (the lie about it being a boy/baby) so I figured it was probably a girl and that the pregnancy is real. I don't know if you may know the rest of the story already, but I've been guessing about this bit and still hope it's a possible twist of some sort. It would be cosmic justice writ large.
; > )

Jardinera, we really get our money's worth in terms of weekend entertainment from your recaps. Thanks. I have a question about one phrase in your comment. Would you explain what "cosmic justice writ large" means? Thanks.

I love the weekend posts because we can drift off topic to quixotic things once in awhile. I stumbled on a website yesterday that had brief bios with a lot of novela talents. I'm still laughing over one moron, the kind who gives Rod a run for his money in the dense sweepstakes. He responded to the question what do you look for in a woman. Answer WEAKNESS and intelligence. What a combo and probably explains why he is on his third wife. LOL. P.S. he is not in the caat of anything currently on the air.

Musing on something else. Martha Roth, dear frozen Pilar seems to be slightly more animated lately. I would have figured she must be pushing 90 but it seems she is only 75. Quite a contrast with Gustavo Rojo who is a very spry 84.

Jardinera, I will say again or for the first time, (I get a bit confused when I am testing my rum toddy recipes). I am glad that you too are on the Pasión ship as a recapper matey! The recapper crew is stellar through and through, wow are we going to have fun on this ship of fools, no?

Thanks too about the study references on Destinos which I did not realize was on line and the Don Quijote site. I will definitely check them out. Cervantes Institute and UNM Cont.Ed here in Albuquerque offer great classes but it helps to have online study aids too.

Dear pure enjoyment: Thank you!
As for my comment regarding "cosmic justice", rather than go into a long-winded philosophical discussion I'll send you to the site below. But, if nothing else, I'd say I think of it as that unstoppable force for positive good in the universe that must eventually override the ultimate negative forces in the universe that lead to chaos and disharmony. It is that which must necessarily set things/causes things to return to their proper place and proportion, or balance. Some may wish to call it God, or Karma and some may not.....

Cherylnewmex: (I be a wee groggy meself.)

Tks! If you all didn't come back and join us and add to the fun there'd be no sense in doin' it. I hope you'll be subbing from time to time for us?
