Pasion Friday January 25 - Lis cries a lot
Camila goes to her room and the Disney sounding love theme plays. She smiles and dreams of kissing Ric. Her flashback tells us more of what happened when they were making out, Ric wanted to hit a home run but she shut him down. He is upset, but then she tells him that she loves him, loves him for real. He’s so happy to hear that that he forgets his blue balls and they talk about how love doesn’t follow reason, bringing two people as different as them together. Lots of smiling and kissing.
Outside Mario tells Ric about his conversation with Ascanio. Ric tells Mario that he told Camila the truth about his cofres full of gold and jewels being stolen. Camila says the money isn’t important, but to Ric it is. So much bloodshed over all the years, he wants his money back. Mario says they’ll find it. As they ride off, we see LaFont across the plaza watching them.
Inside the palace, Mateo and whoever the guy with the fruity moustache is are telling Jorge that they talked about it and they want their cut of the loot after all. I see this becoming a problem later on. Does everyone remember Goodfellas, where they heisted a bunch of cash from an airplane and the whole gang made a deal not to spend any of the money for six months or a year or something? Then just weeks later one of them is driving around in a new Cadillac and his wife is wearing a new fur, which of course brings trouble down on all of them. That’s what I see happening here. One of the gang is going to crack and bring the rest of them down with him. Jorge explains again why he won’t share the jewels, only pay in cash. LaFont shows up and Jorge tells him what they are talking about. Gonzalo then starts whining that he doesn’t get a cut, he was only not part of the assault because Jorge himself sent him away. Jorge starts stirring the discontent by saying that if he gives a cut to Gonzalo, he has to take it out of Mateo’s and Uriel’s shares. Uriel snorts and says of course not! LaFont tells Gonzalo that they’ll find something to make some more money, don’t worry. Gonzalo then tries to convince them that there are not two Ricardos, only one. Alberto LaFont says let’s go find out, Ric has returned, he just saw him in the plaza.
Mario goes back to the bar where it always rains, El Cielito, to feed the old guy booze and find out more local gossip/history. He is trying to find out who Francisco and Pancho might be. Mario explains his interest as wanting to know what’s going on if he is going to live here. The old guy doesn’t believe him but says he doesn’t care as long as the booze flows. He gives Mario the rundown on Jorge’s group of loser friends. He says there is a Pancho de la Vega, but he is ooold and not part of Jorge’s crew. The guy with the most money is Alberto LaFont, Jorge’s right hand man. Word is he steals from Jorge but Jorge doesn’t care. Mario smiles and pours more wine. This old guy has the same vault key as Elaine from Seinfeld.
Alone, Jorge and LaFont review Alvaro’s funeral. Jorge is suspicious now after visiting Salvatierra. He says the disappearance of the boys and the death of their mother all doesn’t seem quite right. LaFont says if Alvaro doesn’t have heirs, maybe Jorge should asks
Fran and Lis ride in a carriage, saying that LaFont sure asks a lot of questions. They arrive at the house and Lis gets all wheezy when she finds out that Ric is back. Ric is busy writing his history of the pirates of the
Fran is lying down with herbs and a wet towel on her head, she must be having a migraine. I imagine spending all day with Lis would make me feel the same way. Lis whines, Fran rolls her eyes, Lis then says that with one word she could ruin Ric. Fran says you would never do that! Lis says who knows, auntie, who knows.
Some guys are practicing with their swords in front of Ric’s house, I guess this place is really out of the way or that would raise some suspicions. Ric and Mario discuss Lis. Ric says he doesn’t know if she will betray him and her hate for Camila is strong. Mario says that a woman with all those things in her head could do anything. He fills Ric in on Jorge’s band of idiots. He thinks that those losers themselves are the organizers of the caravan assaults. They know the area, they have the weapons, etc. Ric has a letter delivered to him, Jorge has invited him over for a drink.
Justo goes to see Ofelia and starts asking her questions about
Vasco goes looking for Bernabe, he isn’t home. He is looking for ‘something’ that Bernabe had promised to return but he never showed up.
Ofelia is quite pissed at Justo. He keeps saying that
As Justo leaves, he runs into Vasco. Justo gives him crap for not talking to Ines, Vasco says that’s why he’s here, to talk to her. Justo gives him a lecture, saying that she’s at HIS house taking care of HIS son, he needs to go talk to her and apologize and promise to be a good husband. Vasco sighs and says fine.
Vasco finally talks to Ines, he isn’t very nice. He promises to try and be a good husband, but he’s going to still go out with his friends. She asks and whores too? He says why not? She slaps him. During the conversation Ascanio walks by and then hurries on to his room. Ines cries a lot, she is a very ugly crier, she wishes none of this happened, Vasco keeps blaming her for pressuring him, she shouldn’t have said anything. We know of course that she was just worried about being pregnant. Vasco finally tries to calm her down, but keeps telling her that this didn’t have to happen, if she hadn’t said anything. She says she loves him and he says he loves her too, but not the way she wants. In time, who knows, God willing.
Camila is getting her gold ready to go pay off the blackmailer, Jimena tries to talk her out of it. Finally Camila says she’s going, Jimena can stay home if she wants. Jimena says of course she won’t let her go alone. Camila rules out having any man, like Ascanio, hide to watch them, the card said to come alone. Camila calls chismosa Cleo to give her the keys. Of course Cleo wants to know what’s going on and is met with “JUST GIVE ME THE KEYS.” Cleo forks them over and does that annoying waving her hands around like a little old woman thing. I love the tics people get in these Estrada productions, though as I have said before, my all time favorite was Antonio de Guzman’s super girly hair flip.
Ric is practicing his pistol quick draw when Lis comes to see him again. Is he leaving? Yes. To see Camila? No, Jorge. She starts whining some more and wants things to be like before, when they spoke to each other with love and care. He tells her then the story of how he met Camila, on the boat to La Mariana. They recap her story with
Camila and Jimena are out on some path in the dark, waiting for the blackmailer to appear.
Ric and Lis discuss Camila some more, he says he feels guilty for what happened to her. Is that why he’s marrying her? No, not just for that. He says he’ll try and keep Fran’s name out of the thing about Tim getting
Lis holds her doll and cries, Fran rants on saying that she believes everything Ric tells her, but at the same time she needs to get the idea of Ric out of her head, they aren’t ever going to get together. Lis ugly cries on and on and on and I’m sick of it. Way too much of that from her today. Fran tells Lis that LaFont wants to get together with her. She lists his qualities, that he is educated and rich. Lis says if not Ric, then she’ll never get married with anyone. Well, good luck with that. Just look how happy Fran is living her life alone!
Ric goes to see Jorge, Alberto is there too. They start asking him questions about his trip to La Mariana and his engagement with Camila, Ric smoothly answers questions, lying when necessary. Ric drops the bomb on them that Pablo survived, LaFont looks a bit uncomfortable at that. Ric says his stuff is still missing, his very valuable stuff. Ric says that this doesn’t seem to be the first time a caravan was robbed in Jorge’s land, doesn’t he know what’s going on? Doesn’t he have a personal guard? Jorge says yes, and he was about to explain, they are his PERSONAL guard, not guard for the whole area. That sounds like a poor explanation to me. LaFont takes over and starts trying to trip up Ric on the whole ‘two Rics’ question. Ric finally says that yes the other guy is named Ricardo too, wow what a coincidence. It’s a common name.
Camila and Jimena are still waiting, Jimena wants to leave. Suddenly a robed figure appears and points at the ground. Camila says no way, drop the card at the same time, the figure says no you first, then me. She sets the money down. He grabs it. He says “Are you sure this is the amount I asked for?” Camila turns her head and looks at him, then says “Bernabe?” dum dum DUMMM. Turns out Bernabe is a horrible blackmailer.

That Lis is something else, she's like a combo of a terrier and a pitbull. Not to dis the breeds, I like them both, just making a point. When she told Aunt Fran she could stick it to Ric if she wanted, I looked up the word she used, 'horca', which specifically means gallows, as in she could send him there. Yikes!! Interesting word considering we got to see a public hanging on Thursday. We know how Estrada and Miguel love these public punishments and executions, remember when Luis saved Hipolita from a public whipping in Alborada? I wonder if some such fate awates Ric or Cami down the road?
Thanks for the fab recap!!
You are right, that blackmail subplot unravelled quickly. It looks from the previews that Bernabe gives up Vasco instantly. Some freind.
I am having trouble deciding who is an uglier cryer, Ines or Lis. Lis definitely generates the bigger waterworks but Ines contorts his face more hideously. She's a cute girl when she's smiling.
I'm glad that (from the previews) Cami finds out quickly about Vasco thinking about blackmailing her. Maybe Cami ripping into him might make him reconsider how he's leading his life in general. Then again, maybe not.
I guess since the families know that Ines was "deflowered" they would force the wedding even if Ines changed her mind, but if I was her I would wait a little longer and see if she really HAD to get married before becoming tied to Vasco - and subjecting the rest of us to all the future ugly crying! As has been duly noted, that quota is more than being filled by Lis.
“Ric wanted to hit a home run but she shut him down.” LOL – looks like they’re going to have to get past what Juancho’s boys did to her before Ric gets any action. That means he’s going to find out and it’s one more reason to go after Juancho.
“Mario smiles and pours more wine. This old guy has the same vault key as Elaine from Seinfeld.” ROTFL!
“Ines cries a lot, she is a very ugly crier” Her nose gets way red. Ugh.
The whole Ric/Bouffant/Jorge question thing was a hoot. Who can trip up whom first with the most probing questions? Like any of them actually plan to answer honestly.

ps, I'll send you all half dozen of my emails.....
I was surprised that Cami found out about Bernabe and the blackmail so soon. That is so good.
I would say that Ines is the uglier cryer.
I really love Ricardo 's character. He 's so masculine, he is not a whiner and he has faith in Cami. He has nothing in common with Luis Fernardo on "Maria la del Barrio". I took to him from the beginning.
On the other hand, I like that Cami doesn't cry so much any more. I remember all the crying she did at the beginning, and then I think of how calm and cool she was a few weeks ago when Jorge was pressuring her to let him sleep with her. I'm glad that this character development wasn't delayed until "últimos capítulos" like it so often is in other novelas.
I suppose we'll have to wait a lot longer for Lis to smarten up... though her interest in Santiago really does seem to be sincere. Inexplicably so. :)

Also - thanks to all of you who are letting my use their e-mail addresses to vote for my son's picture!
preempted PASION. Why can't people just record STATE OF THE UNION from any of the other 8 channels and let us watch our programs.
OK I'm finished venting! Enjoy your evening---all of you.
I just dropped by to send some good news. Pasion was in la ultima semana when suddenly it has been extended. Perhaps it has picked up more fans from our site and in Mexico?? Who knows but those of us enjoying this telenovela won't have to say goodbye so soon. I have no other information than this from my home family. I stopped watching the episodes after one week here. It is advanced by almost two months. First of all, I barely have time to sleep with my heavy Spanish school schedule, and second I didn't want to spoil it for myself and intend to read all the reviews so I can jump back into the peanut gallery next week.
I don't think this amounts to spoiler informatilon, I'm just saying the writers are back at it adding additional capitulos.
Adios,

letter".Vasco had decided against doing it,and asked "B" to give it back to him. "B" claimed he left it
at his house, and would bring it tomorrow. I'm guessing,he was going
to get the $$,and "beat feet" out of town. He'll probably wind up dead,as he's been "made" now.(Not
to be confused with "GoodFellas

Anon. 3:20pm -- Here's a quick recap of the make-out scene on the couch Cami is daydreaming about:
Cami says "NO." She doesn't want to. Ric asks why not since the next day they go to sign the papers and that will make them essentially man and wife. (I guess he means in front of the magistrate/notary which by today's laws would make them married civilly, though I'm not sure how it was done exactly back then.) She says, "I know, but I don't want to." He is frustrated and says, "You don't WANT to?" Cami explains,"It seems a bit rushed. Besides, we're in the living room and somebody could enter. I'm sorry." He says he's sorrier than she is.... So Cami kisses him again and tells him she does love him really, but they've really only just gotten to know each other. He laughs and says, "Ok. It's just that if you continue hugging me you aren't going to help me much." Cami laughs and says, "Pardon me." He says no, he wants her to hug him but if she insists, well she's going to have to deal with the consequences. So she giggles and then tells him she doesn't quite get how a well traveled, well-brought up man of the world from a supposedly important family could be so interested in marrying a simple townie like her. Ric says there's no explanation for love. "It happened. Let me tell you, though, that you are the most beautiful small-town girl I've ever seen in my life!" She giggles again. "--Liar!" He laughs at her and says, "No!" (I swear I can't believe he gave up and backed off so quickly! What a guy! Only in telenovelaland.....)
As for the extension, as I understand it, they are showing 1/2 hour episodes for the last 4 weeks in Mexico, with the other 1/2 hour being a new show, kind of like they did with LFMB and Juan Q. So, they are extending the time, but there will still be only about 95 hours in total.
