I Love Juan, Thursday 1/3/08 - In which Paula unwittingly invites a vampire into the house
Anga calls Kike and instructs him to find the best lawyer for Juan.
Juan's first visitor of the morning is Susana. He can't believe she and Sun Yu had a part in the investigation that led to his arrest. He tells her to look deep into his eyes. Is his the face of a murderer?
Susana gazes a long moment and answers No, but Sun Ya wants to get to the bottom of her father's death. He died under unusual circumstances, plus Tweedles Dee and Dum spoke out against him and raised their suspicions. This angers Juan, "Those two! No wonder I was turning into crunchy goat skin! (Again with the chicharrón! Maybe he means he was being fried, burned at the stake, hung out to dry? Does anyone have a better translation for 'me estaba volviendo a chicharrón de chivo'?)
Molondrón stands in the town square and plays his guitar. He sings songs protesting Juan's arrest. "Juan is innocent!" he loudly wails to the ladies who gather to listen.
Pastor visits CL's office to grovel for forgiveness for sending him to Dr. Galvez. CL calls him Judas; thanks to Pastor Paula is convinced that "The Terminator" is the solution to their problems. Thanks to their therapy the only way Pastor can help is to find that damn chauffeur so that CL can ask his forgiveness. He, Cesar Luis Farell, reduced to asking the pardon of that good-for-nothing Juan, harrumph!
Herlinda is Juan's next visitor. He tells her that Tweedles Dum and Dee caused his incarceration by lying to the Japanese girl.
Yadira finds a letter on the bar. It sits next to a bottle of booze and a hideous fiber optic lamp that is just like one I won at a white elephant gift exchange a few years ago, blech. "Oh my god," Yadi cries, "she's on the warpath!"
Ding dong goes Ana's bell. It's Nidia with a very un-Nidia hairstyle; she's dressed as she might have dressed ten years ago. The cuckoo clock chimes in the background. Nidia goes on a tirade and begins searching Ana's house for Samuel.
As Mari tells a sympathetic Fernando about poor Nidia Yadi calls with the news that the cuckoo has flown the clock. She's gone to look for their dead papa at Ana's house.
Nidia grabs Ana's throat and demands she stop hiding Samuel or tragedy will ensue. Ana tells Nidia to talk to her girls who will explain everything. Nidia snatches Ana's pillows and starts heaving them at Ana's head. When Nidia runs out of pillows she throws plates. After the plates come the fruit. "What, you think I'll be waiting for my chicharrones (to cook?) while you stay here with him? In your dreams!" She lobs one last pillow at Ana's face.
Pathetic Herlinda begs her papa to correct the injustice cause by T1 and T2. Papa becomes outraged at his son's disobedience and wants to know where her dog of a brother is.
Juan's next visitor is Molondrón. He reports that Don Anga is working on getting Juan a lawyer. Juan isn't happy to hear that Akito's tomb will be defiled. He asks about his son and Molondrón gets sad eyes.
T1 and T2 play pool and snicker about Juan being jailed injustly. Papa finds them and calls them a couple of scorpions. The Tweedles try to wheedle their way out of it but the old Señor knows them too well. He drags his son out of the bar and orders the other Tweedle to stay off his property.
Ana calls Mari to tell her of crazy mama's visit. She hopes Nidia gets better soon for all their sakes.
Fernando consoles Mari; he holds her hand and gazes into her eyes. Uh oh, will it be sloppy seconds once again for poor Marely?
Ivonne intercepts Fer and says they need to talk. She says he has every reason to hate her but she's very sorry for her behavior, for always standing him up and cheating on him. He tells her he's mad at himself, not at her. Thankfully she has helped open his eyes. He calmly tells her he now sees she is a woman without values, without feelings, worth nothing. She promises, she swears she can change for him. Fernando advises her to change for herself, he's no longer interested. She asks him to forgive him. He looks at Marely. Ivonne rolls her tear-filled eyes. Pastor, observing, looks all "toldja so".
Paula enters a sort of design and furniture store. Cousin Laura is showing a customer some pictures of her beautiful vases or art or something. Paula, very impressed, watches and smiles. This artist would be perfect for her new design store!
Susana calls Moni to tell her they found Akito. He wasn't kidnapped but unfortunately he died of a heart attack. She and Sun Yu are making plans to return to Mexico City. They don't intend to involve the Mexican authorities in Akito's death. Sun Yu sniffles pitifully at her side.
Paula has invited Laura to lunch. She's enchanted by her designs. She thinks she can make Laura a much better offer than her current employer plus Laura will have the opportunity to be more innovative. Paula goes on and on about her fantastic store idea, her talented mama, their ideas for the store in which they will invest all their capital, blah blah blah. Laura is very interested, but she doesn't even know Paula's name...
Paula introduces herself. Laura is impactada but quickly composes herself, she introduces herself as Laura...Mendiola. She would love to see some of Ana's work. She slyly looks at Paula.
Ivonne tells Pastor that Fer wants nothing more to do with her. From now now on she will behave respectably and that means her history with CL is over.
Juan's next visitor is the sheriff who has come to release Juan. The autopsy showed that Akito died of natural causes. Juan cachibombon's his way out of the jail. The church bells ring and the citizens happily announce he's free!
Moni tells CL about Susana's call. He announces they cannot stand there with crossed arms, one of them should go to the pueblo to investigate. It's absolutely necessary that they go to 'help out'.
Tweedle Dumb wants to know how his daddy can treat Juan Dominguez better than his own son. Daddy fills sonny in on the reality, they are practically ruined, they are more broke than a piñata. All they have is the land under their feet and they need Juan's anthurium deal to get them out of the hole.
There's a knock at the door and Tweedle answers. A meaty fist pops through followed by angry Juan. Tweedle falls to the ground with a bloodied mouth and Juan demands satisfaction.
Papa separates them during the commercial and tells Tweedle to apologize. Red-faced, he commands he son to obey. Juan makes a face, nyah nyah! Papa apologizes too, saying his son mortifies him.
Moni convinces CL not to run off to the pueblo. She confuses CL by sympathetically enquiring about his state of mind.
Nidia shows up at Kike's market and demands the he tell her where Samuel is hiding. The cuckoo chimes in the background.
Paula has brought Laura to Ana's house where Paula butters Laura up. Laura says she feels they will have a great association, surely fate brought them together. Oh yes, they can count on her.
CL checks out Ivonne's fantastic legs while their sleazy song plays. He asks if she's free tonight. He's alone...and passionate. He could feed her and she could feed him, heh heh. She declines the offer. "You're kidding, right?" he smirks. Nope, she rebuffs him. They are over. Because of him she lost something she loved. CL frowns at her departing backside.
Paula tells Ana that Laura will bring many high-paying contacts with her. Ana brings Paula up to date on Nutty Nidia.
Yadi calls Mari to tell her that Mama was last seen tormenting Kike at the market. Mari decides to track Nidia down. She runs into Moni's office and excitedly asks if she can leave because her crazy mama is a danger to herself. Moni instructs Fernando to take the car and drive Marely, she might need his help. They run out of the office, Fernando's arm around her shoulders. Ivonne is impactada.
Molondrón sings of Juan's freedom to the happy citizens of Achichipico. Juan and Juanito have a loving reununion, they'll never be separated again! Molondrón wants to dance, sing, drink and party but Juan has a couple of things to take care of first.
Laura, bravely wearing horizontal stripes, shows up at Farell Industries to fill Moni in on the latest chisme. She has Great News. She found someone who wants to sell her newest designs. Just guess who her new associates are, or rather who contacted her? None other than Moni's rival Paula Davila!
Susana brings Juan to meet with Sun Ya who is very sorry about what happened to Juan. Juan tells them he wants them to know the real Juan Dominguez.
Moni agrees with Laura that her working for Paula is very providential for Moni. Once again things are going in her favor. Laura tells Moni that Paula is nice but nothing special. Best of all, Paula has no idea whom she invited into her house. Laura didn't give her family name but rather the name of her ex-husband. (If Laura is a well-known artist with a client base won't they know her by her real last name which happens to be the same as Monica's?) Moni says the important thing is now Laura can spy on Paula and report on everything that happens to her. They squeal in delight.
Juan tells Susana and Sun Ya his story. He blabs incessantly but Susana sums it up for Sun Ya - Juan wants to realize Akito's dream and help his town but he has nothing to offer but his strong arms. Juan flexes his biceps for the admiring women. They caress his biceps while he babbles happily about Akito, may he rest in peace.
Mari finds Nidia in the market. Nidia wants to know why Mari isn't studying for school? Kike make a cuckoo face behind her back. Nidia spies Fernando and wants to know who is Mari's little school friend? She allows him to kiss her hand. The chomi-chomi music plays as she squeezes his arms. She tells Mari what a find, so educated, so elegant, so well-dressed! Why didn't Mari say she had a boyfriend? She was afraid Mari would stay dressed like a saint all her life.
Mari tells her they're just friends but he invited her out. Nidia is shocked. Mari go out alone with a man? No no no, they'd better go home right away. To Nidia's delight Fer offers to drive them. He has a car! Nidia takes Fer's arm and tells Kike is he sees Samuel tell him she expects him home for dinner.
As Susana and Sun Ya confab Juan begs the Santo Niño to help him. Susana reports they have come to a decision...they are going to do business with him; they'll buy their anthuriums from his town. She holds her hand out to an astounded and happy Juan, "Starting now we're partners!"
me estaba volviendo a chicharrón de chivo = possibly means 'I was being fried, framed' (Lit. I was being turned into crunchy goat skin)
mequetrete = good-for-nothing
Tomorrow: Paula and CL frown at each other, Moni and Laura smirk, Moni plays to win, will her prize be CL?

Well, Sylvia, I really needed your recap today..just as Juan was about to start, I got a phone call from my daughter who was in an accident and her car wouldn't start. She'd let her AAA lapse and was using someone else's cell phone...ay yi yi...making phone calls, driving around in the dark looking for her, paying the tow truck driver, getting her home...well suffice it to say, Juan was the last thing on my mind...but enjoyed your very thorough recap...feel like I didn't miss a thing, thanks to you.
Thanks again!!!
K, Nidia did not know that Kike worked there, she saw him in the street and followed him (at least that was her explanation). What I don’t understand Is, why don’t they tell her everything? Just sit her down and explain it maybe she’ll remember, but then again that would be too easy.
“It appears that Angarita has spent the night with Delfina, my oh my!” LOL! What was your first clue? Even the oldies have fun.
“Tweedles Dee and Dum” ROTFL!!!! These two are such losers. It’s no wonder Yolanda left Herbierto for Juan and Erlinda doesn’t want Casimiro. Juan is kind, endearing and tender; these two wouldn’t be tender even if you sprinkled them thoroughly with Adolph’s.
“No wonder I was turning into crunchy goat skin! (Again with the chicharrón! Maybe he means he was being fried, burned at the stake, hung out to dry? Does anyone have a better translation for 'me estaba volviendo a chicharrón de chivo'?)” Works for me. If that isn’t really it, let’s just adopt “hung out to dry” as our translation. It has a ring to it.
“Molondrón stands in the town square and plays his guitar. He sings songs protesting Juan's arrest. "Juan is innocent!" he loudly wails to the ladies who gather to listen.” I like Molondón’s pre-recorded songs better. ;-)
“Yadira finds a letter on the bar. It sits next to a bottle of booze and a hideous fiber optic lamp that is just like one I won at a white elephant gift exchange a few years ago, blech.” LOL! I bet the Goodwill was happy to have it back to sell it again. ;-)
When will they be able to tell Nidia that Samuel is difunto? Isn’t it about time for some reality therapy?
“T1 and T2” ROTFLLLL!! It just gets better and better! Thanks for this new twist!
“The Tweedles try to wheedle their way out of it” ROTFLLL!!!! Sheesh, Sylvia, I’m trying to keep it down in here! I’ll never be able to explain the hysterical laughter…..
“Fernando consoles Mari; he holds her hand and gazes into her eyes. Uh oh, will it be sloppy seconds once again for poor Marely?” Darn, let’s hope not.
“He calmly tells her he now sees she is a woman without values, without feelings, worth nothing. She promises, she swears she can change for him. Fernando advises her to change for herself, he's no longer interested” Hip, hip, hooray for Fernando! Good move!
Ah, talk about inviting a viper into the nest. Laura in her new business is all that Paula lacks. OTOH, maybe Laura will decide that Paula isn’t such bad people after all.
“Tweedle Dumb wants to know how his daddy can treat Juan Dominguez better than his own son.” ¡Es el colmo, Sylvia! And we have no question about why Aldemar treats Juan better, do we?
“Tweedle falls to the ground with a bloodied mouth and Juan demands satisfaction.” It was pretty satisfying to see Juan do just that much.
“He's alone...and passionate.” I figured that might mean something more coarse, too—could it? CL is just not used to being denied anything he wants. This is new for him.
“Laura, bravely wearing horizontal stripes,” ROTFLLL!
“(If Laura is a well-known artist with a client base won't they know her by her real last name which happens to be the same as Monica's?)” It’s telenovelaland.
Judy B, I hope all has gotten resolved well for your daughter—what an awful phone call.
Jeanne
Thank you Susanlynn, you and your eagle eye! I recognized the guy but could not place him. There are also a lot of familiar faces in Pasion. I haven't had a chance to catch up on Pasion since I returned from Kauai late Tuesday night but I plan to do a marathon tonight, woohoo!!! I'm jonesin' for a Colunga fix.
Maricruz, bless you once again for your input. I was so hoping you would read the recap and weigh in with your expertise.
