La Traicion, March 14 - Hugo does lifesaving Oriental foot massage, Boris gets a house and Enrico finds another clue

Well, this novella certainly keeps you guessing. We start with the angry townspeople demanding the money that Alcides owed them from the Obregons. Lucas tries to make nice but Ester shows her true colors and the crowd gets ugly. Soledad comes out and promises to pay them but explains that Alcides' money is missing from the bank and she doesn't have any cash. The crowd doesn't buy that.

Meanwhile, Boris orders some false identification papers for Hugo and discovers that Marina stole the ring from Soledad. Marina says that she stole the ring because Soledad hurt Hugo. Boris insists that she return it.

The mood of the crowd at the Obragon house gets uglier and uglier. Paquito arrives to see what is going on. Finally, the mob decides to get payment for what they are owed by taking objects from the house and storm the house. Chaos ensues and even Paquito takes a punch before Boris arrives and holds the crowd at gunpoint.

A great deal of silliness goes on between Enrico and Los Burques. Enrico eventually escapes only to fall into the hands of Rebeca and Hercules. (Where did they get that net they caught Enrico with? They didn't bring it with them and how did they manage to set it up in the one place Enrico would pass?) As one would expect from them, they try to beat the information out of him.

Eloisa goes to see Arturo in prison. She promises that she and Paquito will help him get out of prison and restore his good name.

At the hospital, the police are very suspicious of Hugo especially since he doesn't have any identification papers. However, the doctor claims to know him and the police leave.

At the Obregon house, Boris offers to lend Soledad money to pay Alcides' debts. Soledad accepts and the mob puts down the stuff they have grabbed.

The doctor in the hospital can tell that Hugo is suffering. Hugo says that he has come to the conclusion that love is a lie. He tells the doctor that he loved a woman he thought was pure and sincere and for the first time he opened his heart to love but she betrayed him with his brother. At this point, the doctor is called away when Beatriz stops breathing. Hugo goes into meditation posture!

The doctor tries heart massage with no success until Hugo employs a foot pressure technique he learned in the Orient and Beatriz is back with the living! He tells the doctor to do whatever is necessary so that Beatriz lives.

At the Obragon house, Marina pays the creditors. I guess Boris had enough on him to cover it. Finally, Marina is forced to confess that she took the ring. She doesn't apologize for doing so, however. Ester is vindictive, of course, but Beatriz gives the ring to her. Boris, Marina, Soledad and Ursula go to the Hacienda Montenegro to get valuable objects to cover what Boris advanced to her.

At the Hacienda, Soledad decides to sign over the whole place to Boris. Ursula is disgusted, Marina is triumphant and Boris is confused. Boris wants to refuse but Marina convinces him that Soledad is really returning the Hacienda to its rightful owner - Hugo.

Paquito blackmails the District Attorney to release Arturo.

At the hospital, Hugo urges the unconscious Beatriz to wake up so she can get better. The doctor says that she can't hear him but Hugo says he knows otherwise. When Hugo and the doctor leave, we find out that Beatriz is awake and she bribes the nurse to make it appear that she is dying.

Soledad finds that stupid gun of Hugo's in a drawer. Neither Boris nor Marina can offer any explanation of how it got there. Soledad doesn't pursue the matter but she takes the gun.

Los Burques rescue Enrico and find the next clue to the treasure in a seashell in the Hacienda presumably while Soledad et al are downstairs . Enrico gives Los Burques the slip.
As Soledad et al are leaving the Hacienda, they hear noises and go back inside and find Los Burques.

Finally, we see what Beatriz was about and you were right JB, she has more brain damage. She will pretend to be dying and beg Hugo to marry her as her final wish.

It looks like wedding bells on Monday and then Beatriz gets kidnapped by Fabio.

Thanks Jean--lifesaving oriental foot massage! LOL He must've learned quite a bit on that trip to the East.

I missed the first few weeks of the show, but has Beatriz always been so evil? She's just like her mother and brother! Where's the father? Was he nice and they killed him?

Soledad's taking the doc's order seriously ;-} Every opportunity she gets, she starts running and screaming. But, at least she's not hanging off cliffs and climbing through mines. She must know the Hugo baby is indestructible.

I was confused about Soledad's impulsive behavior too. Doesn't her father still have debts? Esther won't be happy about this decision. She's all about having and controling...

Beatriz hasn't been evil, at least not in the way that her brother and mother are. She has never been willing to kill people the way they are. She went out with Hugo before he met Soledad. He thought they were just friends but she convinced herself that he loved her.

The first episode of the novela had a duel between Arturo and Hugo because Arturo believed that Hugo had seduced Beatriz. But Beatriz didn't want Arturo to hurt Hugo.

Beatriz was just Hugo's spiteful, suffering former girlfriend until Alcides raped her pretending to be Hugo. Then she went crazy. Once she figured out it was Alcides, not Hugo that raped her, she decided to kill him and when she got involved with Team Hugo, she reverted to her obsession with Hugo. Instead of just throwing herself at Hugo, now she is using more guile to get what she wants.

Impulsiveness has been Soledad's trademark since the beginning so her actions with the ring and the Hacienda are right in character. Lucas' debt to Manrique has been paid (by Alcides through Arturo) but presumably Lucas isn't in great financial shape. I don't think Lucas would want Soledad's inheritance from Alcides but Ester is a different matter. I bet she will be spitting nails when she finds out what Soledad did.

Hello all =)

Actually, Beatriz did try to have Soledad killed (that's the first time she slept with Fabio) before the rape, to get her out of the way. She may not be the same level of evil as mom and bro, but she's definitely got some evil in her. I don't think she's crazy anymore (it was more of a temporary insanity from the shock), not since she recovered her memories of the incident and realized it was Alcides who raped her. Oh, and all we know about dad is that he's dead, but I can't remember from what.

I don't think Soledad is aware of her dad's financial situation. She knows the debt was paid off, so she figures that takes care of that. She truly doesn't want anything from Alcides (I wonder if she's even thought about having a memorial service - Maybe Ester will remind her) and mostly just wants to think of as little as possible. Although Boris and Marina don't believe her and refuse to listen to her explanations (and here I thought Boris was such a sensible man), she excuses them because it's only further proof of how much they cared for Hugo.

Some folks asked if Soledad asked about "who" killed Hugo. I think what she asked was "what" killed Hugo. I don't remember the exact wording, but all I remember is that she found the whole thing utterly confusing. She knows there was no proper autopsy, and that Paquito has been snooping around and trying to get the body dug up, but she can't understand why Hugo wouldn't tell her that he had a bad ticker (we know it's pretty much for the reasons he never told her about the catalepsy - He didn't want to worry her).

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Ester throws a hissy fit when she finds out that Soledad gave away the Montenegro mansion to a couple of SERVANTS!!! She will probably choose this moment to tell her that her dad has no head for business and that they're broke.

Bit of useless trivia: I laughed when I realized that the guy who played the barkeep was an actor who had a tiny role in "Madre Luna" as another character who liked to scream. Especially since he was about a foot away from the same actress who played his wife in that novela (now she's playing Ester). Her character in ML was actually very nice and open-minded. So this is definitely a change for her.

Soledad got her impulsiveness from her mother and lack of financial skills from her father. Even though it's Alcides's money, she could do many good things with it and Boris certainly doesn't need it. The first thing I'd do if I were Soledad, is get my own place and get breathing room away from Esther ;-) By the way, where does all of Hugo's money come from? Did he earn it?

I like the new doc taking care of Beatriz. Nice change from Dr. Max...

I think Hugo inherited money that he invested wisely. I seem to remember Alcides saying that Hugo got more inheritance than he did. I don't know if that is true or whether that is just Alcides' view of it, but Alcides squandered what inheritance he did get and seemed to be borrowing money from the entire town.
