Pasion cast on Cristina

I half-watched this, but had a lot of difficulty following it, especially since I was supposed to be doing the Fuego recap at the same time. Here's what I was able to catch - hopefully you guys can fill in the rest:
  • I couldn't help noticing that Fernando Colunga smiles a lot more in real life, and a lot more broadly, than Ricardo ever did!

  • There was a segment about what a great kisser Colunga is, and a brief montage of him kissing previous costars and them endorsing his kissing skills.

  • Colunga likes extreme sports.

  • Susanna Gonzales (Camila) had to wear a flesh-colored bodysuit for the love scenes... and with each love scene being more revealing than the one before it, they had to cut away more and more of the suit, until finally it was practically falling apart.

  • Daniela Castro (Liz), who sang on the Cristina show maybe ten years ago, did a lot of talking... she strikes me as extremely chatty, but likable. Gonzales said that Castro doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

  • Castro talked about - among many other things - how great motherhood is. She also revealed that Colunga has a thing for cucumbers. He eats a lot of them and is constantly trying to foist them off on his costars.

  • Castro talked about the rape scene with Lafont. I'm sorry to say that as much as I wanted to understand this, I could not follow it. I don't think she talked about the scene in the carriage or her crawling through the desert.

  • I thought she said something about putting her hand on someone's "miembro," and there was a lot of laughter - apparently she didn't mean it the way it sounded. I don't know what she did mean, though. Sorry.

  • Sadly, Sebastian Rulli (Santi) barely said a thing, and I didn't catch what little he did say. I was out of the room for a while, which was probably whatever time was devoted to him.

  • There was some discussion of how the episodes don't get censored in Mexico, but do get censored in the US. I didn't catch most of what they said about this, unfortunately, but the general tone was that the things you see on TV are tame compared to what happens in real life. (It seems to me that we weren't spared any of the violence, just some of the sex.)

Rulli didn't talk much. He was asked about his recent wedding. Apparently he has had a long term on-off relationship with an Argentine actress who has a daughter. They had already planned a new years' eve party with family coming in from all over the world and then suddenly decided it was a great time to get married.

Oh--there was one other thing. Apparently he picked up a stray dog that wandered on to the set of Pasion. Apparently they took a liking to eachother and he had him fixed up at the vet and now the dog is a family pet. It turned out to be a pure bred schnauzer, not a mutt. There were pics of the dog.

Thanks, Margaret! Figures I'd miss the doggie moment. :(

OK..here's a little help...that whole Miembro thing was what stuck with me the most (no pun intended) and here's why. Dani said that during that rape scene LaFont put Lisabeta's hand on his "member", yes, penis. And if I remember right she said at first she jumped and Fer joked something about of course you would jump, and there was more about that too in jest, but the part I thought was interesting was that Cristina told them that here in the states that part was censored because of course there is no way anyone is allowed to put their hand on on a miembro here. Soo, I'm wondering if the Mexican version revelaed more to that scene. If I remember correctly the last thing we saw was her in her bloomers bent over the side of the bed, and well you could her infer how that might have ended up, but it left a lot to imagination. But anyway, I'd have to go listen again to get all the joke part clear.
I wonder if the original version is available on you tube for comparison...they might pull it though if it was really that graphic. If anyone knows, do share...

Oh, so that's what they were talking about...Fernando loves cucumbers !!!...Me. too....We should get married. Thanks for translating. I got a few things that they were talking about, but I was clueless about most of the comments. I did ,despite my lack of understanding, enjoy Fernando's charm and goodnatured sense of humor. I hardly recognized Susana...she looks so different with straight hair. Why did Rulli and Ferando laugh and shake hands at one point ??? As for the scene witk Lafont, I saw it on youtube, and although I didn't see anyone's hand on anyone's member, there was something more graphic at the ending.

THanks, K - I saw that scene on YouTube, but it was so blurry and the action so fast that I couldn't really tell what was going on or what was different.

So when she said she didn't mean it the way it sounded, I guess she just meant she didn't REALLY touch him.

When Cristina did the big build up for asking about the rape scene I thought they were going to talk about the carraige one, which to me was far worse, even if it showed less. I guess from an acting point of view the other one was more difficult since it showed more and was longer.

Daniela Castro also mentioned that her daughers were extras (with Gaby Rivero's daughter as Tita and Carla's son as Claudio this was really a family affair!) She said that Maya Mischalska (sp?) who played Ursula had a line where she calls Lis a rat and one of her daughters took offense and had to have the whole acting thing explained to her.

She also suggested that she'd be open to really coming back into acting since this was kind of a test that her family was able to work around her Pasion gig.So we might see her around in another novela in the future.

I did notice at the end of that scene the shocked look on her face as he gave her his wedding present. I don't think we saw that last half-second in the US.

I thought Castro was fantastic, especially after seeing how very different she is on Cristina and some other random talk show I happened across one afternoon.

I almost didn't recognize her face, with her hair so different... but the she starts to talk, and there's no mistaking that voice!

Really enjoyed the cast appearance. Yes, Fer smiles a lot, and he looks gorgeous with short hair. He is definitely one of those men who is getting better looking as he ages. I saw bits of Maria la del Barrio when he was much younger, with a fuller face, and he didn't knock my socks off. But in these novelas de epoca he's breathtaking.

I understood 90%, but the hardest thing for me is when they talk over each other. I can usually understand everything when one person is speaking (unless they're Cubans - a whole different ballgame). Cristina is especially bad, in my opinion, for rattling on right in the middle of what one of her guests is saying.

It was really funny when Cristina said Televisa would send an assassin if Fer broke, for example, his nose when filming the motorcycle wheelies.

I would like to have heard more from Susana. I thought she looked better with straight hair and she seemed like a lovely person. But I think Cristina assumes her audience just wants Fernando and more Fernando. So she focuses on him. She even plugged his movie.

They all seemed like really nice people, although I think Daniela Castro would wear you out if she were your guest, say, for dinner. Definitely likes the sound of her own voice.

All in all, I enjoyed the show a lot, saved it on my DVR for future viewing to see if I can get the 10% I missed.

Yeah, I remember LaFont saying "You will give me pleasure!" like a million times during that scene, so it might have been then too. If you have the link to the You tube version, maybe you could send me or list it, as I'm just curious. Censorship always intrigues me. I don't remember the carriage scene, or maybe I never saw it? Was it Lisabeta raped again?

Susana Gonzales seemed the most like her character and if anything a little more reticient. She also had the most painful story to relate since her father died during the filming of the show. Castro and Colunga, the old pros seemed the most at ease in the interview, Rulli and Gonzales much less so and didn't interject too much.

KHLD(k) The carraige scene is when Lis gets kidnapped by the robbers right near the end. I am sure you didn't miss it. All we see is flashes of her petticoats, her screams (she tries to scream out the window) and then her hands reaching out. Then blackness as she vanishes into the night. We all thought that she was dead until her final scene crawling in the desert.

Fc talked about how much he had enjoyed spending a month aboard the boats doing the fight filming and that he didn't have his land legs at first after being on board a month.
He talked about how much he liked working with "Mario" and how they concocted those signs and whistles the characters used. SG said that after awhile she understood them , too . Fc was pretty funny. After they talked about his love of pickles. (I know pepino means cucumber but I got the idea from the way they talked that they meant pickles.)Anyway ,after that they showed two actresses saying that FC was the best kisser. When Cristina asked him to what did he attribute his kissing skill, he smiled , shrugged and said "Pepinos?"
Daniela C spoke of his great cologne.
Cristina asked FC and SG if they were a couple and both stated "no" but that they felt that such questions were a compliment to their on-screen chemistry.
Rulli and Cristina talked about Rulli's grandfather who had worked as a Blacksmith once upon a time.
He became a successful business man Rulli was inspired by him etc.
He loved that little dog and called him Gaucho. mhm

What they said about the member touching was that originally Lafont was going to put Liz ‘s hand on his member, but she talked to Carla because she was not comfortable and they changed the script. Daniela said it came out better in the end.

When Fernando and Sebastian shake hands was when Susana said that in one of the love scenes Fernando was wearing shorts and she was wearing a thong and she complained about so Fernando started ripping out material from the shorts until it was a practically a thong. Then they had to tie a knot to whatever was left of the short so his things did not come out. Sebastian said jokingly “that’s why she preferred Ricardo because his was so big that he had to tie a knot to it.”

They made a lot of sexual oriented jokes.

It was a great show!
Fernando was just killing me with his smile - wow, he was adorable!
And looks like they are really great friends with Dani Castro - he was leaning more to her that to Susy. Probably long acting path together and probably friendship - adding to the very pleasant personalities of both.
And definitely the experience for both of them makes them at ease during this show ( comparing to Susy and Rulli).

I glad we have this discussion because I definitely was questioning the "member" thing - I couldn't believe I understood it right. Also there was some joke about "cuke" where Daniela said while laughing - "I'm a married woman!".

Also I like how Dani said that there was always the aroma of cologne behind Fer so you can always say that he just passed by.

Overall I wish we had continuación of this interview next Monday! And Dani could have even sing something.

BTW, have you noticed that more personal questions were asked only to Rulli and Dani, neither Susi nor Fernando mentioned anything about their personal life.
Actually it was very noble by Christina not to ask anything personal knowing how Fer is guarding his private life. And Susy - yes, there are rumors, but probably very painful for her to discuss.

Sue, I was reading your post right before posting mine - hillarious!

Sue, I agree about what Dani Castro said about the miembro reference, and Cristina said it wouldn't have played on US television anyway, as I understood it. I loved the story of Fernando Colunga standing around with the pickle jar offering them to his cast colleagues, if I understood that correctly. A couple of them rolled their eyes at his sense of humor with the pickles.

It was really neat that Dani Castro said such nice things about Jose/Alberto LaFont because he's such a good actor he could pull it off, but she said he's great to work with. She was so afraid of how the public would view her playing a blind woman and that she wouldn't do it right, so she went to the association for people who are blind and studied, and it turned out okay. We all made jokes and references to it, but all in all, she did fairly well-IMO as a three-decades teacher of the blind. In the end, remember, we didn't talk about that as much as her nasty personality as Lis, which was the point, after all.

Julie, THANKS for doing this recap!!! Great job!!!

Sue...perfect. Thanks so much for filling in the blanks. Talk about miembros with Fer Colunga on set is just very distracting to me...:)
I'm goign to Miss my Pirate and all the pepinos... :)

Gees, Sue, now I have this image with thongs and knots - and I'm still at work!!!

It was easier when I didn't get a clue!

Eve from Cleveland

Thanks everyone for providing some of the translations. It's nice to know what people were really saying instead of just guessing.

Ah, actually, I did miss the carriage one then. I was out and recorded but ran out of disk space so don't think I have it. I thought I'll check YT for it, but haven't gotten there yet. It was weird to see her in the finale wandering around battered, and the aunt with the babydoll dragging. I knew I missed something radical!!

I don't know how Susana was able to concentrate doing a love scene with Fernando about to fall out of his ripped up shorts LOL. Talk about a distraction. Loved Cristina last night. Loved the banter between them all, especially loved seeing Fernando smile and what a smile too. Susana did seem a bit shy and very beautiful. Is she a natural redhead? Does anyone know? Fernando and Daniela reminded of a brother and sister with their playfulness. Sebastian was quiet both he and Susana. I wish we could see more but alas. It was cool watching Fernando doing those wheelies on his motorcycle. He seems to be a daredevil. I did notice that Cristina didn't ask Fernando or Susana about their personal lives which I thought was a good thing. Talking about her father's death was painful enough for Susana I'm sure.

Pickles does make a lot more sense than cucumbers. Thanks for that!

I didn't take any notes or anything last night - I'm really glad that other people were paying attention. The miembro story makes a lot more sense now, too.

Castro also talked about how people who are born blind experience their blindness very differently from those who lose their sight later on. She said more but I didn't understand all of it.

I remember being really iffy on both Castro and Gonzales at the beginning of the series, but they were both so good by the time it finished. That's why I'm cutting everyone some slack (except Montero) for the first few weeks of Fuego. It must be really difficult getting into some of these roles, especially when you're still recovering from the last one.

I was sad that Mario, Jimena, Ascanio, Jorge, etc. weren't on Cristina. Is there going to be a part 2 next week, or was that it?

OK...Fernando likes pickles...I like pickles ,too...We should get married.~~~Mad about pickles Bess

They probably cut off something because on Cristinaonline.com describing the show there was the following:

"Susana González rompe el silencio sobre su relación sentimental con el actor Eduardo Santamarina, si sus candentes escenas en “Pasión” fueron las que provocaron el rompimiento y como la relación entre ella y Fernando Colunga fue creciendo y fortaleciéndose a medida que se fueron conociendo."

I wish we had a full coverage.

And I don't think it will be the followup ( I wish!) - during the comercial break they showed preview of the next week show - completely different theme.

Eve from Cleveland

I had a hard time following too, but judging from what the comments were, I did pretty well for myself. However, I guess it shows where my mind was because when they were doing all the jokes about cucumbers I immediately thought double entendre. In fact, there used to be a funny little booklet called "100 reasons why cucumbers are better than men" and it was pretty funny.

Julie***You're so right. It took awhile for the cast of Pasion to settle into their roles, but once they did, the characters all became very real to us and we became emotionally invested in them. As for Susana's natural hair color, my mother was and my sister is a natural redhead , and I don't think that Susana is. In Bailando and Heridas [when she was Hot Babe Lawyer], she had very dark hair and she looked beautiful. Well, she would be beautiful with any hair color. By the way, if you did not catch Susana dancing on Bailando por la Boda de su Suenos , try to find some clips on Youtube. She is an excellent dancer. Cap'n Sylvia and I were hooked on that show. I wish that I would have recorded and saved it.

I definitely got the impression that the interview was tightly organized--that Cristina or her producer talked to the actors beforehand about what topics they would cover. Susana seemed totally prepared for the question about her dad and Rulli for the one about his wedding (and they had clips for all the appropriate topics at the ready). I think it went a lot better that way than other post--novela Cristinas I've seen that ended up with silly small talk.

It was kind of interesting watching the body language of the actors--Colunga with the two women on the couch, Castro leaning into him and Susana leaning away and Rulli way off by himself.

If they edited a chunk out about Susana's personal life, it must have been a little rough for her, given that the range of topics she had to discuss involved the death of her father and breaking up with her SO. After it was over when the credits are rolling you can see her go up to Cristiana and I think Cristina puts an arm on her shoulder. Fernando seemed a little protective of her too.

My mother is a natural redhead and I just love that color (my hair is a natural dark brown but I'm always dying it red LOL). I agree Mad Buns Bess that Susana can pretty much wear any haircolor. I noticed the body language too. Maybe there was a bit of distance between Fernando and Susana to dispel any rumor of them being an item in real life and he and Daniela were cozy with each other but in a sibling type way IMO. Sebastian was sitting the furthest away LOL.

Margaret~~~I was also observing the body language and wondered if Fernando leaning into Dani and away from Susana was to stress that the rumors of romance between him and Susana are false. To tell you the truth, Fernando wasn't as protective of Susana as I expected him to be after Cristina asked about her father, but perhaps that was for the same reason...not wanting people to think that they are an item. Poor Sebastian did seem to be set apart from the three on the couch. I did think that Fernando looked much more relaxed than he did on the Alborada tribute on Cristina. I must remember to watch the telenovela awards show...I think that it airs this Sunday...May 4.

They were talking about fresh cucumbers. That is why they thought it was strange. Fernando would bite into whole unpeel fresh cucumbers with just salt and lemon.

Ah, there we are, then--Maricruz is our expert on the Spanish dialogue. I don't know where I got pickles out of that, either--possibly the salt and lemon--and as someone said, they were all talking over each other. So, thanks Maricruz! No wonder his colleagues didn't want any when he offered them.

Julie "Castro also talked about how people who are born blind experience their blindness very differently from those who lose their sight later on. She said more but I didn't understand all of it." Yes, she said it and she is absolutely right. The same is true of deafness. Most individuals who were blinded after they had sight in early childhood have visual memory that is quite different from tactile memory, and motor memory (which is the kind of memory that helps you travel in your house when it's dark, but you've done it a million times--with the lights on). Lisabeta was supposedly blinded at 10 or so, from a fever, so she would have had a lot of visual memory. That would, ostensibly, explain why she wanted to feel faces and why she carried the doll that was dear to her when young.

My mother-in-law was deaf at age 4 and had some interesting phrases from childhood, including my personal favorite: prettyful. She read well, and I knew she never read that word, but could read "beautiful" but her version was probably how she said it when she became deaf from a fever. She remembered language, though, and became a great reader because she already had a vocabulary before she became deaf and didn't have to struggle learning vocabulary as an infant, toddler and preschooler without hearing it.

I thought it was interesting that Daniela had studied even concepts like this preparing for the role.

Jeanne

thank you Julie for posting your brief recap, and thanks to everyone else for filling me in several of the hard to understand jokes.

One thing, when Fernando was saying he was into extreme sports, he did say he was now a helicopter pilot, right?

Jody :)

He said he had some kind of piloting license, but I didn't catch what. I think he said he liked cars, too.

Jody, he definitely said he was a pilot. I didn't hear helicopter but he surely could have said that, and if so, wow.

Jeanne

At the end of the show, Dani Castro hugged Cristina first, and Fernando was next. However, he got out of the way and ushered Susana over to Cristina. Definitely a caballero.

Does "tanga" mean a thong? I couldn't find it in my dictionary.

The cristina show was so nice, but i was a little disappointed with ric. I think he looked more handsome with long curley hair. Santi looked as good on Cristina as he did in the pasion. It's a shame that he did not get to talk much. I feel that his part was as great as Rics, even if ric was the most popular. I can't figure out why I like the actors as they were in the novelas, more than afterwards. I loved Fernando of La fea, yet when I saw him with short curley hair, I was not impressed. I loved la fea with her hair the way it was for the weedding, yet on cristina, I thought it looked awful. The star of destilando was handsome in the novela, but I did not care for him on Cristina. Liz looked more beautiful in the novela then on cristina, I wonder if it is because I never saw these people before they were in these noveles, where the rest of you have. Does that make the difference???

The thing that was the most different to me was Dani Castro's eyes. As a blind woman, they were always unfocused and not very expressive, as you would expect and yet she has really expressive and beautiful dark eyes. I saw her last many years ago in Canaveral de Pasiones and I'd forgotten what she looked like.

I really appreciate the recap of this, Julie, as mi espanol es muy mal (neither do I have the right symbols on my keyboard--boo) and I was dying to know what all was being said.

Susana and Daniela looked great. Fer's face practically lit up the screen whenever he grinned; I suppose that's where the "million watt smile" saying comes from. :) I wish Sebastian had gotten to say more too. Boo. But truthfully, I was happier than a pig in slop just looking at him. *sigh*

Sebastian said jokingly “that’s why she preferred Ricardo because his was so big that he had to tie a knot to it.” ROFL! Holy Moly. Thanks, sue.

Three days late and a few dollars short, but here I am ;)

Yes, tanga means thong.

Pepinos can be either pickles or cucumbers (though pickles are often called pepinos agrios - sour cucumbers) but I got the impression that they were talking about cucumbers, and laughed when FC said that he practiced with them to be such a good kisser.

During the "member" discussion, Dani mentioned how they originally were going to have Jose Elias Moreno put her hand on it, but the first time they did it during rehearsals, it jumped (FC said, well off course it did!) which surprised them both. They worked on the scene (both in talks and rehearsal) for a while until they got it just tight. She commented how comfortable she was working with Moreno and how helpful that was in doing such a difficult scene.

At the beginning, Rulli said something about having to be separate from everyone 'cause he just got married (or something along those lines) - that and the love seat was separate from the couch the rest of the cast sat on.

On a topic mentioned during the grand finale (though not in Christina) I too have mixed feelings about FC in a Corazon Salvaje remake. It's been done three times and the last one was soooo good. However, one of the comments reminded me that prior to Palomo's death, he and Edith Gonzalez had been in talks for a sequel. Soooooo, I wonder if that's the project that Estrada has in the works for Colunga. I've never been an ageist, but the fact is that FC is a good decade older than the rest of the actors who played Juan. In a sequel, that would make perfect sense. Just a thought, and a big hope on my part.

I will miss this blog so much! The other TNs have so much fewer comments, whatever will I do with my time now? ;)

Guess I'll stick to the rest!
