I Love Juan, Thurs 5/15 - The King of Lies, the King of Sharks

In order to avoid confusion here is how I will deal with the twins:

CL = when CL is himself and out of disguise
Sandro = Sandro Arenas
S2 = when CL is disguised as his twin Sandro Arenas
"Sandro" = when people are talking about who they think is Sandro, but it's really CL

And now on with the recap:

Juan sees S2 and Paula in the Club. He makes his escape hiding behind a waiter's drink tray. Does S2 see him? The cheeky bouncer snags Juan's invitation as Juan leaves the premises. He bubbles that the office will think he's the biggest liar in the world!

Ana gets ready for her hot date as she recalls Nidia's words, go with the flow and relax.

Marely has an awesome screen saver. It features Sandro and Juan both vying for her affections. She tells Screensaver Sandro that Juan was her first love. "But not your last," reasons Sandro, "there's chemistry between us." Screensaver Juan performs his charming Juanisms and then mocks Sandro. "Marely...Marely..." Marely awakes with a start! It's young Juanito calling her name and he can't sleep.

Willy and Ana are at an expensive restaurant, it has violins, several of them and all quite loud. Willy makes his moves which track exactly as Nidia predicted. First he'll kiss the hand, then... Ana should play hard to get as the enemy advances his position. Willy claims he loves her innocence, he wants to protect her (bleh). Ana becomes hot and bothered. She needs air!

S2 arrives home to a worried Sandro. He tells Sandro that he saw none other than Juan Dominguez at the club. Juan came to look for Hillary Paris but he left empty-handed. That unhappy cactus Juan will lose the last bit of respect Paula has for him, Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

Back at the restaurant the pot is about to burst and it's dangerous; Ana tries to escape. Willy lays a big fat wet one on her as the violinists play, undaunted. (It's a pretty lame kiss after all that top-notch Colunga kissing in Pasión.) WOW is all Ana has to say. Willy proclaims his love for her. How does Ana feel about him? She goes into her neverending Samuel story. Wrong move mamacita, better keep it short or the Neanderthal's gonna bolt. But no, he's got it bad and says he loves her innocence. (Again.) She agrees to give him a try. Woo hoo, with that passionate promise he says he's the happiest guy on earth. She says she wants to be discreet. He has no choice but to agree and they seal the deal with a kiss. Allow me to insert Kris's comment from yesterday's recap here: "Man Ana is killing me. Acting all prude and worrying about what people will think. I didn't elaborate in the recap, but come on!! She was the lover of a married man for years, and had his illegitimate child, all despite knowing he was wed and had his own family. Barefoot nun, my pompis!!!" Thank you Kris.

The next a.m. for once everybody at Farell shows up on time. Everybody wants to see Hillary Paris.

Juan and Juanito groom themselves in front of the vanity at home. Juanito tries to press the treasured business card onto an uninterested Juan. Juan finally looks at the card - HILLARY PARIS!?!?! You know her?!?!? Juan faints onto the floor.

Over at Farell Julia and Ruth Buzzi pour champagne in anticipation of Hillary Paris. Julia schools Ruth on all the plastic surgery that Hillary has had.

Pastor tells Heriberto that Hillary is the quintessential Mexican jetsetter. What would she see in Juan?

Paula gloatingly tells Marely that no way will Juan show up with Hillary Paris. S2 joins them at the catered table, everything is perfect for receiving his majesty the king of lies. S2 and Paula snicker.

Angarita takes Yadi to a lovely apartment and asks her how she likes it. She's confused, is it for business? He tells her no, it's hers. She looks surprised and suspicious. Anga smiles proudly while she is probably thinking "you old goat"!

Paula is calling Juan a coward and looking mighty pleased with herself when the elevator dings. Marely gasps and all eyes are on Juan as he strolls in, proudly kissing the dainty hand of Hillary Paris. We are serenaded by Maná as we go to commercial break, "Everyone calls me the king of the sharks..." Perfect!

As jaws drop Juan bubbles that they can all take their chocolate horns and bust with jealousy, ha! Hillary graciously greets the group, then Pastor proposes a toast. Heriberto pushes through the crowd of cell-phone paparazzi and effusively describes her beauty in his own base way. Juan introduces Hillary to the crowd starting with Paula, S2, and his dear friend Marely. He basks in their jealousy and shock.

Yadi, suspicious and sickened, tells Anga she can't afford the apartment. He says it's a gift, a place for her and her daughter. As Anga approaches Yadi backs up, she doesn't know what to say. She doesn't understand why he would do this. He says it's because she's a good employee and he likes to share with people that he, uh, likes. He offers to pay for her school too. He wants her to think of this as a type of commission if the Farell deal pans out. It's a gift from the business. She softens and tells him he's the sun. She thanks him profusely and hugs him.

S2 wants to talk biz with "Barbie" but Juan won't allow it. He and the doll have to talk. In private. He affectionately escorts Hillary to his office and Ivonne slaps Fer for staring too hard.

Yadi cries with joy, nobody has ever been this kind to her. Anga loses a couple of tears himself and proclaims that he sees her as the...the...daughter he never had. She calls him her fairy godfather. He asks only that she never doubt his intentions. He hands her the key and she sobs on his shoulder. He also cries with joy. Ok, I admit it, me too.

Juan has Hillary alone in his office. He nervously futzes, shuffles, and refills his marshmallow bowl. She wonders why the intrique? It takes him several minutes to get to the point which is, the entire office believes they are dating! Hillary is wide-eyed impactada.

The office lizards gossip and gawk until cranky Paula throws water on the party. Everybody back to work!

Juan grovels. Hillary stands up; she looks angry. But no, she bursts out laughing, she's never heard such a story! No, she's not mad, and if that Paula thinks he's low she'll help Juan show her how high he has risen!

Ivonne interrupts them. "Sandro" and Paula want to talk business. Hillary clings affectionately to Juan. They sit down and S2 proposes that Farell do business with the Paris family. Hillary makes a smoochy face and says anything for her love. Cat butt face from Paula.

Paula has had enough and tries to leave but Juan has more torture in store. He insists she sit down, what's the rush? Hillary tells Paula and S2 that her father will work with Farell but she wants something in return. Can she count on them to help her out with her pet charities for which she is famous? Paula is forced to be civilized and agree.

Hillary comments that "Sandro" is identical to his brother. Poor Monica, she adored her, but CL was such a womanizer he could never be faithful. She hopes the widow isn't in too much pain. "I am the widow!" snarks Paula. S2 squirms and Juan gets bug-eyed. Hillary apologizes, she didn't know. Paula says she knows very well the kind of man CL was! S2 displays the CL twitch. Hillary coos over Juan, that's why she adores him, he'd never be that way. (If she only knew!) Juan gives Paula the double-eyebrow-lift which sends her over the edge. Paula and S2 can't get out quickly enough.

Juan and Hillary hug and giggle. They are now conspirators.

Hillary says Paula was about to explode! "Tú crees?" Juan asks. He thanks her and stuffs his face with marshmallows. Hillary says it's not free, it will cost him dinner. They agree to meet at 3:00 at "Mon Ami" which confuses Juan. Una mona de mi? (Sorry, I didn't get the joke. Anyone?) She corrects him, "Mon Ami" is a restaurant.

As Juan escorts Hillary to the elevator Anga and Yadi enter. Yadi is astounded as Marely confirms that yes, she just saw Hillary Paris.

S2 calls Sandro and tells him everyone was impactados when Juan walked in with Hillary Paris. S2 is all sour grapes, these millionairesses are always having it on with chauffeurs and gardeners. Juan is just her fling of the week. Sandro reminds S2 that Juan also has a way with the ladies, or has he forgotten about Juan and Paula? S2 tells his brother to go the devil! Sandro = 1, S2 = 0

S2 is summoned to Juan's office. Anga and Yadi are muy, pero muy impactados to see a dead man. Juan assures them he's alive, "Sandro" is CL's twin brother. Yadi composes herself and she and S2 head for his office to talk business.

Anga tells Juan that "Sandro" gives him the same bad vibes that CL did.

Yadi presents her business plan, such as it is, to S2. She becomes Temporarily Sweet Yadi as Cupid's music plays in the background. S2 sees nothing wrong with her plan. She accidentally calls him CL, whoops! She apologizes and coyly places her hand on his. Should they sign the contract? He says he wants time to read it calmly. In the meantime can he "tutear" her?

Yadi turns it on full blast and says she just knows it will be a pleasure working together, tee hee. S2 looks all, Uh OK, if I have to.

Paula bitches to Marely that Hillary Paris probably wants Juan for her museum of conquests and she doubts very much that Hillary is serious about him.

Juan asks S2 to find a job for Laura. S2 balks, isn't that Pastor's job? He asks if Laura is another of Juan's little friends. Juan pulls rank and S2 puts his half-eaten marshmallow back in the bowl. (This is becoming a habit for him.) Certainly he will do it if it's an order from the president. As he leaves, S2 turns around for one last jab, "Congratulations Juan, for having bounced so high after starting so low." Juan rises, stares at S2 curiously and asks, "How do you know where I come from?"

Tomorrow: Laura arrives at Farell + Paula sees her = Catfight! Hillary kisses Juan.

Sylvia, Thanks for the wonderful recap. You captured in such a fun way the very real dilemma of keeping track of just who Ayala is playing at any given time. Good idea to create a chart to keep us on track.

I thought Hillary was lots of fun. Very beautiful, very smart, nicer than Paula by far and ready for a good joke. I hope we see lots more of her and lots less of the shrieking Paula whom I have grown more than tired of. Paula might actually have to treat people in a dignified way to keep from being shown up by Hillary.

Laura is just going to make everything nuts but it's already nuts so why not the more the merrier.

I'm off to chase wild horses tomorrow so wanted to salute you and add my thanks before I head north. I won't see Friday's show so will look forward to Friday's recap to follow the fun.

Smart way to keep all those dumb twins separated. I actually wish I'd seen this episode.

Fun recap of a fun episode, thank you, Sylvia. Wasn't Hillary a welcome breath of fresh air to the cast, so gracious and genuine, not at all like her American counterpart's reputaion would suggest she be. Makes Paula look pretty bad. New thoughts on the final pairings- Juan/Hillary, Marely/Sandro Arenas, Fer/Ivonne. Not even gonna waste time going further... Just as Yaditza was showing some real promise, as soon as she get her own pad, she turns floozie with "Sandro"... One observation about Juan's womanizing- I don't recall that he was ever cheating on anyone- really, he hasn't been in any truly commited relationships, as I see it. But how many notches are in his belt anyway? He did Paula and Susana,I'm sure, but are there any others? He has charmed them, but hasn't bedded many, as I recall, but there have been some big gaps in my viewing. Any help out there for filling in the scoreboard? dd

Thanks Sylvia...especially for that twin flow chart!
This was an enjoyable episode for a number of reasons. Of course I just loved Juan and Hillary taking the piss out of Paula and "Sandro".
And I also thought the Herbierto scene was hilarious.
What I enjoyed most though was Cesar hearing how people really thought about him.
There was that great exchange with Pastor where he commented "But I thought you were friends with C.L." I would have like to be, but he constantly humiliated me, yelled at me etc. explains Pastor.
And the womanizing, Monica-heartbreak comment by Hillary was another. Is our favorite scoundrel bound for redemption as he continues to hear the effect of his treatment on other people?
And now, as a woman from an older generation (and what can I say, I was raised Presbyterian!!!!) I can easily understand Ana's timidity and fears. And countless times, I have commiserated with someone of my age expressing fears about "becoming involved" with someone again after years of being married. Women of my generation, a lot of us anyway, just can't sally forth with an olé olé attitude like Nidia's...hey, wish we could!...I'm sure life would be more fun but that's how it is. I totally understand Ana and find her fears and trepidations very believable. She needs a lot of reassurance just to get her feet wet again, so to speak.
Plus her limited experience with men hasn't exactly led to her seeing them as trustworthy, verdad?
She's afraid of getting hurt again and that makes sense.

Thanks to whoever tagged my post. I forgot to do it last night.

JudyB, I hadn't included the conversation between S2 and Pastor because I thought it was kind of a nothing filler scene, but I see now that it was part of the whole S2 having to see himself through the eyes of others motif. Do we think his hearing the truth about himself will change him? Not likely.

My favorite scene of the night was when Hillary was talking about CL and Monica. Even Juan was squirming in his seat.

Dorado Dave, it's true that since Juan met Paula he hasn't been quite the same womanizer as he was before. I was referring more to his past history. This whole story started because Juan had to leave Achichipico to escape the wrath of Herlinda's family because he had loved and left her. Yaditza, what a pill, I hope when she realizes that Marely and the real Sandro have a "chemistry" thing she backs off. CL could use Yadi's flirtations to turn Marely against Sandro.

I'm wondering how everone else looks at Juan. I don't see him as a womanizer, certainly not in the same way as CL is, for sure. Juan falls in love with all these women, he just loves to love, not just women- his loves people. He loves life. for some reason, he reminds me of Zorba the Greek (gotta see that movie again, been years). Back to my womanizing- has he used any woman for his own satisfaction, regardless her feelings? I don't know, help me out?

Well, now Dorado Dave...you've asked a very deep question...one that perhaps even Juan couldn't answer.
Yes, he was in love with love and life and so forth...but at the same time who's to say if he used his girlfriends for his own satisfaction? There's a mixture of giving and taking, generosity and selfishness, commitment and ambivalence in most relationships and who's to say where the line is drawn?
But as far as the story goes, I think we are meant to see Juan as a pure character, full of good and noble intentions but whose enthusiasm sometimes leads him astray.
On the opposite pole is Cesar Luis who is cynical and seduces women purely for his own physical and ego satisfaction.
The lines are seldom as clearly drawn in real life but hey, that's what makes telenovelas so "restful"...we know for sure who the good guys and the bad guys are...and furthermore we know eventually the good guys will win.
And yes, Sylvia, I tagged your recap...ever worried we might trigger the umbrage of our anonymous crank again.

Oh Boy, what a show we had last night...I really enjoyed watching Juan lay it on Paula, using Hillary....But I tell you from my perspective, Paula tops Hillary in the "pretty girl" catagory, and Pauls has bigger "milkshakes" too.

But Hillary's feet, are nearly perfect..poor Paula looses big her.

Sylvia, thanks for noting "tu cress" in your recap, as it surely means "ya think".....

OK guys, who wins, Paula (my vote), Hillary, Marely, Ivonne, The New Julia, or Laura, Overall, and in the Milkshake Contest.

It seems Ms. hot to trot Yadira is back on the prowl again pawing all over Sandro/CL..I'm taking back the good thoughts about her conversion..

Sylvia, I loved your recap, I'm sorry I didn't get to see this episode; I can only imagine Paula's face. About the womanizer discussion, I think both Juan and CL do it basically for the same reason; they were both orphans and are constantly looking for love, the main difference is in their personalities. Like dorado dave said, Juan loves people and “se deja querer” hence the “querendon” nickname, on the other side CL doesn’t allow anybody to get close to him (not even his brother) he doesn’t believe love is free flowing and tries to manipulate everybody. I believe yes, both are womanizers, I wouldn’t get in a romantic relationship with either of them, but I would have love to be friends with Juan…Just my two cents.
Ah… and Anom#1, I think Paula wins.

Oh Export Red (aka Maureen) I thought of you immediately when Yadira started oozing all over "Sandro". Yuuuuck...she should have been thinking about inviting the hard-working, loyal Enrique to join her and Michaela in that gorgeous apartment, not start making the moves on some faux executive.
I'm afraid I'll have to join you in the down-on-Yadira camp this week.
"Hija de tigre salga rayada" once again.

JudyB..I was a little rough on Yadira sometime back when she dropped Kike for el professor Topete..I was just liking her again..

I've missed so many episodes..Did I just read here that Yadira is moving out again getting her own apartment? What man is paying the bill this time?

I love Hillary Paris..Great competition for Paula..She has bigger "jugs" than Paula. Does bigger the boobs mean higher the IQ, then Hillary is MENSA material...?

Paula's feet? How is it some of you see the feet that I can't see.

Regarding Yadira, the dicho that came to my mind was "Otra vez la burra al trigo." We can't say we're not learning lots of good stuff from our telenovelas!

BTW, very thoughtful responses from JudyB and Maricruz about the womanizing thing. The big difference between CL and Juan is that Juan is so good-natured we're willing to forgive many things. I don't think we feel the same about CL.

Maureen, turns out Anga is Yadi's real daddy. He knows it, she doesn't. Anga was Nidia's true love when she met Samuel and married him for his money/stability. Anga did the math and realized that Yadi is probably his daughter. She has a special birthmark (one or two recaps back) which clued him in. He has it too.

Anon#1, your comment comparing "Milkshakes"is a bit inappropriate, don't you think?

If I can regress to the meaning of "chinches bravas" for a moment and the use of idioms generally.
We found a Spanish slang translation web site that had all the "chin..." words, many of which a Puerto Rican roomie in my early days in the Air Force taught me.
But the term I laughed about on the web site was the term for opium: "Chocolate de Fu Man Chu." Gotta love that kind of imagination!

Amen to the feet thing...I have an old tv (and old eyes I guess) but I never get much of a look at feet, especially not enough to know if the toes are scrunched.
(On the other hand, I got a REALLY good look at Fernando's feet on Pasion and they're as gorgeous as the rest of him.

Now if men had to wear heels, it would be a different story.

Mike, too too funny about knowing all the "chin...." words. Yeah, something about being in the military really grosses out the vocabulary, doesn't it? But as I get more and more tired of this cold and sore throat, I find myself gritting my teeth and saying "Chinches bravas" a lot! Very satisfying.

My vote- on looks, only: with makeup, Paula. W/o makeup, Marely.

And wasn't Marely just super lovely when she was having dinner with the real Sandro?!!!! She truly looked like a woman in love, radiant and incandescent. Ah, to be in love again!!!

emilia...I don't want to be in-appropiate, that is why the refference is Milkshake, not a more well known nickname for this particular part of a woman's body. If little kids are reading this blog, they may not have a clue as to what I am saying...

To judge women by the size of these body parts, is done by men all over the world every day....appropriate, ? does it happen - yes

But if other commeters feel the same, I will reframe from using that slang...

Sylvia, the new classification system for the twins is superb, and since imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I’m copying. ;-) The recap is also terrific, as always! Geez, Louise do you have a cutting edge sarcastic streak! Thanks!

“Marely has an awesome screen saver. It features Sandro and Juan both vying for her affections.” LOL! This was a lovely scene, except for Juan being a pill.

“That unhappy cactus Juan will lose the last bit of respect Paula has for him, Bwa-ha-ha-ha!” ROTFL!!! Every time he bares his teeth to laugh, I can only think they’re a little yellow and look like a wolf. The yellow part must be all that smoking.

“Willy lays a big fat wet one on her as the violinists play, undaunted. (It's a pretty lame kiss after all that top-notch Colunga kissing in Pasión.) WOW is all Ana has to say” LOL! I thought it was lame, too. Glad to know I’m not alone. Maybe Samuel never kissed the poor girl.

“Wrong move mamacita, better keep it short or the Neanderthal's gonna bolt.” LOL! I wondered who he reminded me of.

“Allow me to insert Kris's comment from yesterday's recap here: "Man Ana is killing me. Acting all prude and worrying about what people will think. I didn't elaborate in the recap, but come on!! She was the lover of a married man for years, and had his illegitimate child, all despite knowing he was wed and had his own family. Barefoot nun, my pompis!!!" Thank you Kris.” ROTFL!!! Very good capture on that classic assessment K made of Ana’s situation!

“Over at Farell Julia and Ruth Buzzi” LOL! I knew she reminded me of someone! (Actually, I meant to respond to the discussion of this lobby lizard yesterday or the day before, but my day job kept me too busy). This actress could be Ruth Buzzi’s kid. Well, maybe not, but a fine likeness.

“Anga smiles proudly while she is probably thinking "you old goat"!” LOL! I would have been. And I wouldn’t have acceded even after that pretty explanation he gave her. But this IS Yadira.

Dorado Dave, like you I couldn’t help but notice that Juan’s Hillary Paris is the opposite of The American Paris heiress—names reversed, Latina complexion with gorgeous brown eyes instead of blonde, and NICE! Plus, she’s into doing community service which is totally the opposite of the American Paris. She’s going with the joke, accessible….need I say more? I loved the number she did on Paula about Monica. Did she KNOW CL or did Juan feed that to her?

Una mona de mi—would that mean a monkey of mine?

“has he forgotten about Juan and Paula? S2 tells his brother to go the devil! Sandro = 1, S2 = 0” ROTFL!!!!

Cheryl, have fun with the wild horses! Wow, what an opportunity!

JudyB—“twin flow chart” ROTFL!!!

Let’s not forget that Juan fooled around with Heriberto’s wife, Yolanda, prior to running from Achichipico. And no, DD, Juan hasn’t used any woman simply for his own gratification—very unlike his nemesis, CL.

Anon #1, you are dear to us, one of us and since you mentioned it--yes, some of us probably object to the "milkshake" term (I am one who objects, but then, I am a schoolmarm and you know my type...so I haven't said anything because I am so glad you are with us). Still, some of us would ignore it and not mention it --although it possibly is not something we care to hear. Just my two cents' worth and remember you are one of us, Anon #1!! :-)

Jeanne

Thanks Jean .....maybe the reference is too "racey" I will reframe, but now I have little to comment on "smile", I do like the way Paula talks with her hands...you notice that that folks at Ferrall, mostly use pensils, not pens....let all watch for that in the last few episodes remaining....

And Thanks Jeanne for you honesty, and the diplomatic way you made your case...

Thank you, Anon #1! You still have PLENTY to comment on; we're all on board for shoes (for what it's worth, I got seven pairs by mail today and though about you when I tried on the couple of pairs with open toes). We'll be on the lookout for pens/pencils. I hadn't noticed that and I'm curious now.

Jeanne

Hey, thanks for the props Sylvia. Yeah, I'm sorry, she needs IT bad. At the risk of trumping milkshakes, you all may infer what IT is. Once she lets go, look out. We'll see a much more jovial Ana.

Milkshakes doesn't bother me that much. I appreciate peoples' candor and if you are thinking it, you may as well say it. Milkshake is a benign term relatively speaking. I suppose the image it conjures up is less benign. Honestly, I didn't know what it was for the longest time, and I've even seen those Carl's Jr commercials and wondered what the heck, and why someone would sing a song about it. Duh. Oh well.

I do understand how it might bother gals, but I'll echo Jeanne in that this blog would not be the same without Anon #1 and I am grateful he's here. I bet I'd even miss the milkshake analyses.

I'm also grateful Emilia has joined us, so it's very kind that Anon #1 has offered to maybe cut back a little. Again, I think it's the concept of objectifying women and not so much the words. But in reality, we do get judged on appearance. As long as Anon #1 talks about other subjects as well, which I think he has, the occasional milkshake comparison is just part of the package for me. I have to say though, after seeing Hillary in the red dress, I'm not so sure Paula has her beat.... :)

Oh and I think the "Una Mona de Mi joke is a funny play on similar words implying Juan thought she said "A monkey of me" or "My Monkey" instead of understanding the french for "my friend." :) Beyond that I'm not sure there is much joke.

Wow...you all thought "monkey". I thought "nun" and figured he thought the restaurant was named "My Nun" which reminded me of a German white wine I used to drink in my long ago student days.

I think the main part of the joke, as always, is that Juan is treading water like mad when he's around cultured people with a wide international experience.

And because he's such a charming oaf, they're not put off by his bloopers (unlike Cesar Luis who liked to mock them).

I love quite the charming womanizer,Juan..Yes, he's a womanizer,but it's done in a naive innocent like manner,if that's possible..

Now that Juan is a big corporate excutive,it's about time to shed the colored shirts & short clip on ties..Where is the fashion police?

Cap'n Sylvia Sharkbait..Thank you for bringing me up to speed in the storyline..I has a suspicion that 'Nid' had been slipping around with Anga in the early years..

Hillary is now my hero..Any woman that puts Paula's "panties in a wod" makes me so happy and the show much more enjoyable to watch..

OK, I will consider my hand slapped. "Milkshake Contest" just seems so Junior High. Naughty little boys in the locker room and all that...
I'm not offended, perhaps just a tad old for 'such talk.'

No, Emilia, please don't think you've had your hand slapped. I think there is some of everything here--some find specific terms objectionable, some don't at all. Some merely say nothing and don't reply to what they find objectionable. That's true on all of the novelas we have recapped here on C2.

In fact, we are so pleased you and Mike are here, too--for a long, long while it was just the six or seven of us who recapped and subbed, way back nearly a year ago when we started! So this has been a real treat for us to have you here, and everyone else who has joined us. I tend to be more conservative, like you, but you'll see me make obscure references to naughty things now and then.

Thank you for joining us!

Jeanne

What I love about this blog is that we are all a family...and families don't always agree...but I love the honesty....and I'm sure we all express it as directly as we can.
I'm a lot more "old school" in my thinking and may seem fuddy-duddy to some, for example, in my defense of Ana, but that's okay.
I love the free-spirited, olé olé attitude of some of the younger, more liberated recappers and bloggers and know ultimately it's good for my soul.

But let me join with Jeanne and say no no no...Emilia...your hand wasn't slapped, God forbid! we love it that you were able to express your thoughts on the "milkshakes" terminology and it's opened up an interesting discussion on how women are viewed and how programs are viewed and for what reasons.

What's been most helpful for me in communicating back and forth with fellow recappers and bloggers is to realize that people don't always see things the way I do. I know...that's a big "duh"...but honestly, sometimes I slip into the mindset that SURELY everyone reacts the same way I do....and by golly, they don't.

But I love getting to know you all and getting to share this crazy Juan experience with you. It's like we're all sitting in the same "virtual" family room, watching the show and talking about it afterwards.

"It's like we're all sitting in the same "virtual" family room, watching the show and talking about it afterwards." JudyB, that's a terrific way to think about it! I hadn't ever given it much thought, but this blog allows us to do just that. A "virtual" family room! What a great concept!

Jeanne

Emilia, I started this milkshake madness, but I am not upset in any way that you dislike the reference..as Jeanne says, we are all a family here, bound to disagree at times. Export Red and I had a mis-understanding, and we have worked it out, so don't feel like you are wrong for seeing things the way you do.

I would like to say, who would think a TV show, a spanish show at that, can spark such conversations, as we have had here. Over the last few weeks we have discussed abortion, mis-carriage,womanizing men, spousal abuse, to name a few. All from a show that ends each telecast by saying-this show is not to be confused with reality..."tu cress"

To put a cap on the milshake topic, this Telenovela, and others I has seen on Univision, do exploit the upper torso of the female actors and charaters, just watch the Saturday nite variety show thats on for 3 hours (can't think of the name), but every week thats all you see the full lenth of the show...A commeter here stated they never see Paula' feet, that because her feet don't sell commercials..

"A commeter here stated they never see Paula's feet, that because her feet don't sell commercials."

ROTFL!!!! I love it!

Jeanne

Buenos Tardes a Todos Amigos aqui! How's that? So Emilia and I just finished our dia de trabajo in the yard and one of the thoughts that went through my head on this fine Tidewater day was that - correct me if I'm wrong - that "Arenas" is Spanish for "Sands", therefore Sandro Sands. A nod to we Inglis speakers, perhaps?
Dumb, I know, but weedeating and spreading mulch leads to unusual thought patterns.

Indeed, no handslapping here, your point is definitely well taken. We are a bunch of kids here in a way for sure. Hopefully that keeps us young at heart if nothing else.

I agree, Anon #1, you are thinking of Sabado Gigante with Don Francisco, King of what I would consider weekly exploitation of feminine attributes, but I do have tremendous respect for him, despite that. And though it seems to have toned down a little in the last month or so, really, one couldn't not comment on cleavage with this show, the way it was thrown in our faces with Pau and Ivonne pushing the envelope of revealing too much, and Nid always adjusting herself!! The producer is a woman too. Go figure!!!

Mike, you did that just fine! And it sounds like a lovely day in the Tidewater (been there) if you like yard work, which apparently you kids do. I am impressed! You're right about Sandro and Arenas. Since Alexis Ayala was born in Los Angeles and probably speaks English as well as he does Spanish, you could be very right about the nod to us English speakers. Weedwhacking today, huh? Seems like it brought out your creative streak!

K, great observation about MaPat being the producer and female. Very interesting point.

Jeanne (still working on the last few minutes of the Friday recap and needing a break)

Wow, I just got home from a weekend away and I'm amazed at all the conversation I missed. You guys, commenters and recappers rock! I'm very happy that Emilia shared how she felt instead of holding it in and possibly blowing us off. It certainly sparked a very interesting discussion. Thank you all for weighing in. This sort of thing really makes the recappers feel like we are doing something worthwhile. Thank you!!!

I just realized I won't be able to recap this coming Thursday night. Hopefully someone will be able to trade, sub or post a header for me...
