Pasión de Gavilanes - Fri, May 30 - Franco doesn't know how to be a patron so its Juan and Óscar to the rescue!

This was a great episode - probably my favorite so far. I loved team Juan taking on Malcom and Carmela and coaching Franco how to throw his weight around. I loved Franco's inability to manage without his brothers. I loved Óscar's glee at finally getting the good life. Would he have abandoned Juan if he couldn't have been convinced to live in the Hacienda? This was the first time I heard Óscar call Juan, Juancho. I loved Eva coming up with the right arguments to convince Juan and Óscar frantically signaling Franco not to object to Juan's decision to only be an employee.

I liked the Indian Savage guy. I loved Pepita coming to dinner at the Elizondo's and charming Málcom. And what are Pepita' given names? What a mouthful.

And Monday Norma's baby is born! Wow!

Howdy =)

Jean, sometimes they show previews for the whole week on Friday, so we might not get our baby birth right away. Still, I too am looking forward to it ;)

This was one of my favorites as well. I got a kick of Juan and Oscar smacking their kid brother around and telling him to stand up for himself. It was much like a shirt I own which reads "The floggings will continue until morale improves." Still, it did the trick for them 'cause the kid grew a set. I laughed a lot as he chased his tormentors around after all the grief they caused him. Last time he backed his brothers, and now they're returning the favor.

Now my question is: what will the pecking order be between Eva and Quintina? Both are taking on a "mother hen" role with the boys, albeit in a different way, and I just hope no conflicts arise from that.

Oh yeah, and I loved watching Don Martin perk up when Pepita showed up, then again when offering to go look after his granddaughter so he could ogle her fellow models ;)

Seeing scenes like Don Martin flirting with Pepita and wanting to ogle models just makes me mad. I know it is only a TV show and we are supposed to laugh at this harmless old man, but to me, this is disrespectful towards women. I rant about this on my blog, about how women need to have a sense of modesty, and how those who dress so immodestly and flaunt themselves set us back 100 years. If I were there, I would have chastised Martin for encouraging these women to dress so provacatively, and tell him he should help them realize why this is wrong, why they need to dress so that men will respect them. This is why so many men disrespect women and think it is okay to go to strip clubs or to places like that bar they have in this show, with the women gyrating around half-dressed. At least they show the "loser" type guys at the bar, but when a supposedly "nice" man like Martin, who should know better, acts this way, it sort of makes it look like it is okay. Would he wants his daughter or granddaughters to dress like that? No. But it is okay if he ogles OTHER women who dress so provacatively. It is such a double standard and disrepectful toward women. But again, I know it is just a TV show and we are supposed to laugh and think it is cute. So I'll try not to get TOO worked up about it. I do like how Norma and Sarita dress in this show. Norma looks so cute and ladylike in those longer skirts and turtleneck sweaters. Jimena has worn some revealing clothes but not all the time.

Margarita, et al, re: Eva vs. Quintina. You'll all be pleased to see how many characters, Eva included, really blossom at the hacienda Reyes. (Actually, it's more aptly called "Refuge Reyes", as you'll see in the weeks to come.) Eva becomes a second mother to the boys and they come to depend on her wisdom & experience in both personal and professional matters, and she in turn benefits from their support. It's really great to watch.

Re: Don Martin & Pepita - he is a bit on the randy side, but he also has moments of tremendous depth. I came to really appreciate this particular relationship in the story because as superficial as it seems initially, they become incredibly important to each other, in a very loving way. Both he & Pepita are written larger than life, so I take them with a grain of salt.

Can't wait for next week!

I'm a sucker for this type of storyline - a mother separated from her daughter getting to mother "boys" who lost their parents.

Eduvina was just so apalling and painful to watch! I was thinking she was going to fall off the table and break her neck, but I guess a heart attack does the job just as well. I guess I wasn't too forward thinking, but until she got on the table I hadn't thought about Franco inheriting everything from her.

This one is a fun challenge for me since watching on YouTube I don't get subtitles and can't rely on a recap to fill in the holes. I like having to rely on my own comprehension.

And thanks Marie Celeste for the missing links!

Does anyone know when PdG will end? I'm loving it and don't want it to end soon.
