Yo Amo A Juan, Tues. 5/6/08: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

We open with Dona Nidia telling a reluctant young man to cover for her at Angarita's so she can run off to meet a friend. Her work is nearly done: the gossip, the personal calls, the poker game. Now it's time to move on. Nobody has to lie to Angarita!

At Farrell, Marely asks Sandro if he wants a coffee. And how did it go in there at the interview? Sandro wants to know when they started tutearing each other, when they became such good buddies. Yesterday, Marely says, taken aback. He doesn't remember?

Socios Paula and Juan are bickering in her office about their interview with Sandro. Paula thinks that Sandro is the perfect person for their VP of Administration, he's got the background they need. Juan is stalling, he thought bubbles that he doesn't want Sandro moving in on his territory.

Marely wonders if she offended Sandro or if he's one of those moody people. He says that it's just the stress, he really needs the job. Marely remarks that all of the candidates probably feel that way...

Fern, Pastor and Heri are gathered in the lobby nearby, waiting for any news about the interviews. Fern says he smells alcohol and asks Heri if he's been drinking. No, no, no!

Nidia admires her reflection in her compact mirror and powders her nose. She looks up from her table at the cafe and admires the bartender. Don Lorenzo hasn't gotten there yet, and she calls the bartender over. She wants to get to know him and invites him to sit.

Kike gets back and finds the vegetable stand is in disarray. He panics and throws some blame around at his worried compadre who's watching the store. What happened? And where's Dona Nidia? Kike hears the explanation about how Dona Nidia made everyone play poker -- she's crazy!

Don Lorenzo, the man, is combing his hair getting ready to go out.

Juan tells Paula he's not so sure about Sandro. Not so sure?! Why?? He has a feeling. She tells him that you've got to make business decisions on facts, not feelings. He reminds her that is was him who had the doubts about the Campeoni deal. She reminds him about Sandro's education, his experience as a cereal exec in the US, his financial background, his time at Stanford. What more does Juan want in a candidate, what's the problem?

Madame Pomposo breaks the mood for Don Lorenzo as she comes back home. You didn't even miss me! And where are you going? Golf. She's suspicious of him. Does he have another woman? No. Well, yes. A friend and we're going out to eat. What kind of a woman is that? Senora Pomposo cries and makes weak threats that she's going to leave for good. Seeing little argument there, she walks out. Don Lorenzo makes a happy fish face.

Back at Farrell, what does Juan want? He wants a test! Paula thinks that's ridiculous to give a candidate a test, especially with all of Sandro's experience. But if Juan wants a test they'll have a test. And who's going to prepare the test, Juan? Yes!

Juan slides out of the Paula's office into the lobby, awkwardly pushing his chair in front of him. He yells for Fern to come to his office.

Sandro steps toward Paula's office door and says that he's like to talk to her some more. She'd like to talk to him and invites him into her office.

Paula tells him about the test and apologizes. He starts to make some smart remarks that almost take her aback, but he changes course and tells her he's fine with taking a test. And he'd like to invite Paula to eat, because she's the most attractive woman at Farrell. And if her socio Juan doesn't like him, it might be the last time that Sandro gets to spend time with her. She tries to make excuses, but then accepts.

Juan and Fern are conferring in Juan's office. Juan needs Fern's help to make up a test. Just then, Juan hears a rumble. What's that? Time to eat! They get Juanito to join them and head into the lobby.

Fern, Juan and Juanito meet up with Sandro and Paula. Each group sizes up the other. Paula introduces Juanito to Sandro, who almost sneers that Juanito is just like his dad. Juanito gives Sandro Arenas some attitude.

Downstairs in the garage, Sandro gushes at the red convertible. Whose is that? It's a classic! Juan proudly says, it's mine. Sandro tells him it's a collector's item and starts to irritate Juan with all of his car knowledge. They get into their cars. Juan honks at Sandro's car in front of him to get going.

Nidia tells the bartender how she is not able to stay faithful to one man. She has one, then she wants the other. Just then, Don Lorenzo arrives and the bartender springs up from his chair.

Juan grumbles about Sandro as he drives. Sandro driving his car tries to get Paula to talk about her troubles with Juan, but she changes the subject. Just then, she notices that Juan is following them! She turns around in horror. Sandro speeds up, so does Juan.

Don Lorenzo tell Nidia that he had a serious conversation with his wife and told her that there was another women. Did she tell Delirio about them, that they're an item? Of course not! No, no, no.

At Farrell, Heri makes inquiries about Yvonne, can he get her address. The gal filling in for Yvonne asks Marely about the rumors of Yvonne's lipo surgery. Not true!

Anga and Yadi get back to the produce mart. Where is Nidia??

Paula tells Sandro to pull over so they can talk things out with Juan. Sandro says that the best solution is not talk, but speed! They continue to do laps around DF with Juanito cheering for Juan to go faster and Paula and Fern yelling at their drivers to slow down.

The excitement ends with Juan's flashy red convertible by the side of the road, engine steaming. It didn't go as fast as Juan thought. He reaches in to try to fix it and burns his hand -- ouch! Fern sends Juanito for water, but there is none so they blow on Juan's hand to try to cool it.

Sandro and Paula reach their destination. Funny, this was one of CL's favorite restaurants. The wait staff mistakes Sandro for CL and Paula has to clarify that this is Sandro, CL's twin bro. He asks her what she's drinking. Nothing. He orders a bottle of one of CL's favorite wines. Paula, ill at ease, tells him that he is starting to remind her more and more of CL.

Sandro wants to know about how things were with CL. Some good, some bad. Sandro inquires, which was there more of? Paula tells him there was more of the bad.

Back at Farrell, Juan's hand is bandaged, but he's not broken. He's plotting his next move in the fight against Sandro Arenas.

Thanks, Susana for the quick recap. The writers must be getting bored with this TN, at least that's how it looks from my recliner. The slow chase scene was almost unbearable, and burned up a lot of time. Did you notice the flicker of flame from Juan's engine just as they cut away?. I sure hope that they don't torch that old 'Stang. Don't do it for me, please. The entrenched power struggle between Juan and Paula is getting so tired, too. Of course, we know that Juan is right, there is something wrong in Sandysandy, will we ever see him, the other twin again, or has he lived his usefulness? I almost yelled at the screen for them to check out his resume'! It's gotta be dummied up, if SS was so well qualified, why is he so desperate for work? Alarm bells?! Then he takes Paula to CL's favorite restaurant, and orders his favorite wine, too? Come on, guys, you gotta have something better than THAT. Oh well, I've invested this much time, I guess I'll stick it out- When does it end?

Susana, great job! Thanks - all you recappers are helping Emilia and me learn a little more each day.

Dave, agree w/ you - DON'T TRASH THE MUSTANG! I think the chase scene last night was a comedy version of the classic Mustang chase scene, i.e., Bullitt.

Hi Susana, great title. Yes, that was a very silly chase scene, and no, I didn't notice the flames, uh oh. I think Dorado Dave is right, we are heavily into filler scenes these days. Luckily for us the dichos and sayings are still flying fast and furiously. It's finally getting to the point where I am recognizing some of them as they pop up.

We think Juan Querendon ends around mid-June sometime.

Mike, you just mentioned my favorite chase scene of all time! The poor DF wasn't nearly as exciting as SF (San Francisco) though, not enough steep hills.

Thanks Susana!!

hey, I didn't notice the mustang/chase scene connection. Let's take it a step further- instead of flying over the hills of SF, thye were slowing down for speed bumps! PERFECT!

Susana...thanks for that crisp efficient recap. Since I only have a few "stolen moments" each day to check e-mail and the Caray Caray site, I appreciate when I can get the gist quickly.
I'll still be up to date, thanks to you all, when I get back to Columbus next week.
Thanks again. JudyB

Thanks Susana for the great recap. I appreciate your efforts too.
I'm with Dave on the Mustang catastrophe. The fire in that classic beauty brought out the only emotions I felt through this entire episode. Egad, don't burn that car!!

Yeah, the car chase was the plot equivalent of a plane circling around an airport waiting to land! I keep trying to imagine what sort of resolution we will have with this novela in the next 6 weeks. I wouldn't mind if Paula took a vacation for a while!

Thanks Susana. Hee. I haven't seen Juan in a week. So I was reluctant to watch last night without having caught up yet. Well, not much to catch up to. I sat there thinking, hmmm, since I've gotten out of the habit of it, I could easily see myself continuing on with that trend and not watching for another week. Oh well. If the show was gone completely though, I'd miss it too. The twin plot is aggravating me though. I'm glad we got to watch a "chase" scene for a while. At least we saw new locations, and they have to make it worth their while to have that 64 Mustang laying around. Maybe something fun will happen tonight. Sigh. Thanks for your efforts!!

Thanks, Susana! This really is getting to be a very loooong novela. We complained a little about LFMB having some filler, but this one is absurd. I haven't seen it since about Thursday last week--but I think I'll just forge forward and not watch the back episodes since the recaps took care of it all--so thanks again for yours, Susana!

"Seeing little argument there, she walks out. Don Lorenzo makes a happy fish face." LOL! He's really great as a teacher and really annoying as a lover-wannabe.

Jeanne

I am so glad to read that I am not the only one who is getting a little bored with this novela. I do think that we still have several months to go, unfortunately.

I never thought that I'd say it, but I am soooooooooo ready for this one to be done!

Oh, yeah, Susana--great title!

Jeanne
