Pasión de Gavilanes, Mon. and Tues. June 16 & 17 - Brothers and sisters work together

Monday’s episode was very sweet.

Jimena and Sarita did a good job of sowing doubt in Norma’s mind about Dínora. Fernando helped by getting himself alone with Juan David and then putting clumsy moves on Norma.

Los hermanos Reyes were also very good together with Óscar and Franco trying to help Juan and then all of them trying to keep Eva from leaving after Óscar figured out that she was Ruth’s mother.

Then the Elizondo sisters deciding to work together was great too.

Quintina was prepared to defend Juan and the hacienda against Dínora – who would prevail in a fight between them? I'd put my money on Dínora. She probably strong and fueled by evil.

Tuesday's episode:

Senile old Calixto almost blabbed the truth to Ruth.

Óscar’s little pep talk with Eva before meeting with Raquel was incredibly sweet. I keep using that word but I can’t think of a better. And then the Reyes brothers sitting outside like nervous parents while Eva did them proud inside against the ghastly Raquel. BTW, Eva used one of expressions Marie Celeste talked about in the last post:

Raquel: Eva Rodrigues, vamos por partes
Eva: Que partes ni que ocho cuartos, señora, se acabó.

Raquel: Eva Rodrigues, let’s go one step at a time.
Eva: One step at a time my foot, that’s over with.

Benito eating with the ranch hands was hysterical and so was his falling down in the manure pile and having to be washed with a hose.

What a ghastly smile Grabi had when she invited Fernando out to eat.

Poor Armando all alone in the hospital. Did you ever see a hospital that used blue sheets on its beds?

Grabi thought Fernando was attractive and the perfect man for …. her daughter. But now for her? Yecch!

It was funny when Juan picked up Juan David and he/she started to scream.

Franco and Sarita were so cute together holding hands.

Loved the scene of Óscar and Franco pulling Dínora’s chain at the dinner where she hoped to trap Juan into marrying her.

And abuelo partying at the bar Alcala.

Uh oh. Looks like more trouble for Juan tomorrow.

No puede ser!!!! Juan cannot succumb to Dinora's slime!!! Whew, now that I got that off my chest, I'm praying to the telenovela gods that it's just funky editing for the teaser and it's some crazy fantasy of hers or the precursor to him shoving her aside. Luckily we'll know tomorrow 'cause I don't know how long I could have waited for that one.

Jean, don't fret too much about the posts. Since we don't have any recapers, we can just post our comments on whatever the last thread was. I suppose if we need one badly enough, any of us can create one! I think it's incredibly generous of you to recap LT and then write posts for this one too. We are all very grateful for your hard work.

"Ni que ocho cuartos" literally means "nor what eight rooms." Not sure where it came from, but "my foot" or "my eye" are pretty much as close as I can think of, like Jean mentioned.

Gabriela's "Llegeme el agua a donde me llegue" literally means "reach me the water where it reaches me." Roughly a reference to water being above your head.

I think I can see why LT's baby Aurora has a blanket for a stand in. Poor Mario seems to have the the unfortunate talent of making babies burst into tears. Then again, our little "Juan David" actress seemed pretty unhappy with everyone but Sarita in that scene.

I was sooo impressed by Eva finally telling off Raquel. It was a nice touch to see the actress collapse afterwards at her own shock of her actions.

Yup, watching the farmhands egg on Benito like he was on a double dare of some sort was very funny, if slightly cruel. That boy desperately needs a hobby!

khuieflMargarita: Thanks for the "Llegeme el agua a donde me llegue" definition. I don't remember hearing that at all. Of course, I also tend to ignore a lot of what Gabriela says. ;-)

I felt so bad for Juan Daniel when Sara brought him to visit Juan. When he started to cry and the guys were trying desperately to get him to stop, I could completely relate. (As much as I love them, babies seem to do the same to me.)

I'm amazed at how many scenes Mario does in PdG with a real baby as compared to LT. There are many yet to come, and they seemed to turn out very well. (I guess I can't say how the shooting actually went, but they got a good result anyway.)

It's clear that the female actors spent more time with little Gabriela García ("Juan Daniel") than the guys, and rightly so, as it makes the baby's reactions just as they should be. It’s amazing how well she bonded with Natasha Klauss and Danna García, particularly, even saying “Mamá” in at least couple of scenes with Danna (later on). Quite the little actress!

Abuelo was in hog heaven at the Bar Alcalá shindig, but it will cost him. That's the only time I've ever like Rosario. I got pretty tired of Pepita's pink & purple snakeskin catsuit.
('Understatement' is definitely not in her vocabulary.)

Margarita: Sounds like you'll get your resolution tomorrow to the Juan/Dinorah thing. This latest edit of the show is moving along pretty quickly; sounds like what's happening tomorrow is what I have on my youtube schedule for Thursday. I'll need to hustle to stay caught up with you all. ;-)

Whew! I watched the first hour of today's broadcast when I was home at lunch. Dínorah's plan backfired big time. That was Manolo in the teaser who was being devoured by Dínorah in a dark room, fortunately witnessed by Juan and Norma. What a ghastly dinner party at the Rosales for Óscar and Franco. And Juan looking like a little boy when he had to be told to go after Norma when she left the Hacienda. I'm yelling, corre! don't let her leave without kissing her. But it was ok.

Abuelo had a really good time at the bar before he keeled over. Rosario was unselfishly nice for once in her life. How can Grabi not take him to a hospital?

Thanks Marie Celeste and Margarita for explaining the "ocho cuartos" and "llegueme el agua" expressions--I really appreciate it!

I had the same reaction as Jean re: Oscar and Franco giving Dinorah a hard time--they are so funny together. And I liked that they were trying to help Juan. It was cute too when they were teasing Juan about Dinorah.

Ah yes, Dinora could not have had a better comeuppance that to start making out with the wrong guy. Considering how many farmhands she's beaten up (and I don't mean figuratively, she's quite a a violent beeeyotch and if she was my boss I would have quit!), it's only fair that it was a farmhand she almost had sex with ;) I'm surprised Fernando left her to marry Norma. Those two thugs deserve each other. Guess he did it for the money.

Hopefully Gabi has learned some lessons from this, but I somehow doubt it. At least she's realized that after her actions with with Dinora, she doesn't have a leg to stand on. As for her dad, maybe she'll see that you can lock the doors, but they'll just climb out the window.

By the same token, I hope Martin and Pepita have learned that you can have TOO MUCH of a good thing. Alas, it looks like those crazy kids will probably keep doing too much mischief, but maybe now they'll send a chaperon along to count drinks! I nominate Dominga and Olegario so they can have a real date for a change.

Oh, this is going to sound incredibly corny of me, but didn't Juan look sexy carrying that diaper bag? I'm not kidding, it was hot. Is there such a thing as a DILF? You know, like a MILF, but a dad?

I think it's sweet that he wants to keep his truck, and kind of Norma to say she has no problems riding in it, but someone better put a proper baby seat in that thing. It was a beautiful family picture to see him hugging Norma with the baby in between, but in the back of my head I kept thinking, "that baby's gonna hit that windshield and then you're gonna wish you got a new truck..." Maybe that could be his work car and their date car, and they could strap the baby in the Land Rover for family outings.

No puedo creerlo! Gabi acknowledges she was wrong, and even lets Juan eat dinner with them! Is the world ending?

Juan has wonderful manners, even if he acts rough and simple. To insist that he and Norma go to her family and announce their wedding, and to stay for dinner was actually very classy of him.

Margarita, my first thought, too, when they got in the truck was where is the babyseat?? Where are the seatbelts? Why not go in Norma's car?
Even so, they had to go in his truck, and I appreciated that Norma didn't suggest otherwise.

I'm concerned that something will pull them apart in the month before the wedding. I wished they'd gotten married already.

The serenata by the three brothers was so cute too.

Did everyone notice the tiny little connection between PdG and LT? When abuelo woke up, he told Jimena and Sarita that his father also got these attacks when he drank too much and that he was almost buried alive!!

Poor Ruth shut up with her ghastly non-parents all the time and Raquel scaring off Ruth's boyfriend. Raquel is going around the bend.

I forgot. Anya, prepare yourself. Norma and Juan have more problems to overcome before they get married.

Darn it, Jean! I was afraid of there'd be problems for the lovebirds.

The seranata was cute. Sarita was beaming when Franco doffed his hat to her; she was looking un poquito triste.
Franco would be a wonderful parejo for Sarita. Hope their date tonight goes well.
His eyes are very sparkly blue, aren't they?

MORE GREAT EPISODES!!!
We have a new visitor to The Fence: Eva!

The scene where Norma proposes to Juan is one of my favorite scenes of the entire telenovela. During the entire scene, Juan’s facial expressions are absolutely priceless. The sight of big, strong Juan with the Baby Bop stuffed animal in his lap is too cute for words.

Loved watching Juan make his case in front of Gabriela when discussing he & Norma's marriage, and his wonderful interaction with Martín. I had to giggle with glee when proper manners forced Gabriela to invite Juan to stay for dinner!

All three boys serenading their chicas in the middle of the night was so sweet. Anya, I too was so tickled for Sarita! Franco is turning into such a good man.

Oscar’s reencuentro with Jimena in Leandro’s store was too cute. He was so excited when she said his hopes were justified. Juan & Norma were also too adorable in Leandro’s office talking about the wedding dress design. Juan, what a guy...sigh...

Anya, don't hold your breath re: Juan & Norma. You'll turn blue! ;-)

Howdy =)

Just wanted to post a useless bit of trivia from Friday - Feonando told Gabi that Sarita was also going to give them a "martes trece" (Tuesday the 13th). In Mexico, and apparently in other Latin American countries, it's Tuesday, rather than Friday, that is considered unlucky. There's a saying that goes something like this:

"Cuando el trece caiga en martes, ni te cases, ni te embarques, ni de tu cama te levantes."

When the 13th lands on a Tuesday, don't get married, nor set sail, or even get get out of bed.

We'll see Monday just how much ill luck Rosario brings to the situation with Franco and Sarita...

Margarita: ¡Gracias! I love useless bits of trivia, and even more so when they're in or about Spanish stuff. This saying makes me think of my dad, who, whenever anything went bad on the 13th of the month would say, "Friday the 13th came on a (insert day of the week) this month."

Howdy =)

Well it's a good thing I don't place real money on these ponies or I'd go broke! I thought for sure Olegario would be the next resident at the Reyes Refuge Compound, but I was mistaken. I got a kick out of Manolo and his bro (forgot his name) thinking Ruth was Libia's ghost ;)

I just love how all of the plans to destroy the Reyes Bros. have led to something better for them - particularly when Herzog and Rubinsky are involved (I finally realized who they remind me of: FBI Agents Johnson and Johnson in "Die Hard." Especially in the combination of cockiness and incompetence). Their first kidnapping plans led to Oscar and Jimena getting together. The looting of the house led to Franco marrying Edu and becoming a millionaire. Their second kidnapping attempt forced Sarita to realize how she felt about Franco. Now with this attempt, Sarita who had no plans to fight against Rosario, is more than willing to stand up to the threat of thugs. The best laid plans of mice...

I was ROTFL at Rosario circling Sarita (sizing her up if you will) and at how calmly Sarita told her they were too different to compare (and you know she wanted to say something insulting but she's a lady after all). We know the poor thing was probably terrified. She can outride, outrank, and outshine any man, but when it comes to being girly, she's pretty new at this. I was glad she held her own though.

I know we need another TN like we need a whole in the head, but I just wanted to mention that there is another 2nd run TN following this one. It's called "Frijolito" (I think it was called "Amarte Asi" in Argentina) and stars Mauricio Ochman (shoutout to Cindybin) and little Alejandro Felipe (we just saw him as Paco in "Pasion"). This was originally run in 2005, so they are a little younger than we're currently seeing them. I got a kick out of the fact it features Edgar Vivar (better known as Sr. Barriga in "El Chavo del Ocho").
