Guapos: Monday 7/7/08- "Luci Rocks the Mike and Turns Al's World Upside Down."

At Rodeo, Sor Cachete offers up well wishes to the newlyweds and then sings a song.

Val is bored and sitting at a table with Ramses. Bobby gets Ramses to leave under the pretext that a reporter is outside wanting to interview him and take some pictures. He leaves Val alone at the table and Rocky grabs her from behind and carries her outside ---no one in the very crowded club notices this at all, apparently so enthralled with the singing nun----hello “Sound of Music” anyone?

Outside, Rocky tells Val the truth, that he never took money to end it with her. He only agreed to let Val “free” to go to Paris, Connie’s the one who tossed in the payoff idea and Rocky had to go with it because it was the only way Val would be willing to end it with him. She doesn’t believe him at first, but his true emotions show through and how can she not believe him. They end up kissing.

Al offers up a song to the newly weds. Hugo “marks” his territory by kissing Mili on the cheek. She’s just not that into Hugo, she’d rather stare at Al, obviously pining for what isn’t. Florencia has steam coming out of her ears during the song.

Ramses looking for Val, asks Braulio for some help. He flirts and offers to help him locate her. Meanwhile Mili’s posse tells Pedro that Ramses is Braulio’s new novio. Pedro doesn’t like that one bit and he walks over to check out the situation.

Drunken Luciana decides to take the stage and mike. Constancio attempts to get her down, but she’ll have none of that. She says this song is for Connie and begins to warble. Everyone finds the situation strange and uncomfortable.

Val is happy to realize that Rocky never stopped loving her. She can hear her mother singing inside and they decide to go check it out.

Connie stands throughout the entire song, a look of disgust on his face. Luci’s song is insulting (anyone find it on YouTube? If so, check it out if you missed it).

After the song is over Connie tries to get her down off the stage telling her she’s humiliated him and herself. Nestor even tries to get her off the stage, but she’s not done. She wants to let everyone know how happy she is for Hugo and also for her unborn grandchild. It doesn’t stop there, she informs the crowd that Connie’s been having an affair with his secretary and that she wants a divorce because she, herself, is in love with another man…..the love of her life. She then blurts out that she’s got something to tell Al and she hopes he’ll forgive her. Connie tries to stop her, but Luci’s on a roll. She tells Al that Connie’s not his daddy, Nestor is. Oh yeah, Nestor, Al is really your son.

Connie tells Al that Luci’s crazy. Al calls Luci a liar. Flo tries to calm him. Al doesn’t want to hear it from her, he heads out of the club, pausing to look at Mili on his way out. Mili goes after him and Hugo tries to stop her, but ends up letting her go when she insists that Al can’t be alone right now.

Connie and Nestor exchange looks….Connie is stunned. He then applauds (with a slow clap) Luci as she exits the stage. Pedro hops up and tries to get the music started, this is a party after all.

Outside, Mili comforts Al as he realizes that his “parents” have ruined his life. He also realizes that this means he and Mili aren’t brother and sister.

Connie is upset with Nestor. He’s opened his home to this man, and offered friendship. Connie tells Luci she’s sick and says something about a name change (implying that Al should change his name? or that Luci should be Lucifer? Anyone?). Connie walks away and Luci tries to explain to Nestor. He’s confused because the paternity test said he wasn’t the baby daddy. Luci admits she had the test results falsified. Why? Nestor asks. She was afraid he’d reveal the truth to Al. Nestor says “So it is better to reveal the truth to him here in front of everyone? (Excellent point). Luci asks Nestor’s forgiveness and hugs him. It looks like he’s caving.

Rocky comforts Val as she grasps all that has been revealed this evening.

The downstairs staff discusses the big reveal.

Ramses finds Val in Rocky’s arms. He tries to get them to stop. Rocky essentially tells him to get a clue. Brau is there to offer comfort, but Ramses wants nothing to do with him.

Al realizes that Regina was not his grandmother. Mili says she was in all ways that matter. Al says he’s empty inside and that he feels all alone and betrayed. He adds that his parents have messed up Mili’s life, too. He questions Mili as to what he’s supposed to call Connie now.

Nestor tries to sober Luci up with coffee. Flo comes up to her and lights into her about telling Al the truth, now he knows he’s not Mili’s brother. Luci is of the opinion that that doesn’t matter because Mili’s married and Al’s expecting a baby with Flo. Little solace to Flo.

Andrea lets Connie know that she thinks a divorce would be a good thing, and really not that much of a scandal. Nothing they can’t handle, especially in light of the big reveal tonight. They leave the club and run into Mili and Al sitting outside. Connie expresses his remorse that Al had to find out this way. Al tells him to hold the remorse, because he’s probably enjoying all of this. Realizing now isn’t the time to try to talk to Al, Connie turns to Mili and says that he’s sorry her wedding day was marred by all of this. Connie and Andrea leave. Mili suggests that she and Al head back in, but he’s not ready to face his mother and Nestor. He tells Mili that right now he only wants to be with her. He asks her to go some place, away from there, with him. She agrees.

Padre Manuel wonders to the Sisters why Luci let the truth be known now (OK—this isn’t rocket science, the lush thinks that now that Mili’s married it was safe to tell Al the truth and besides it was a good way to humiliate Connie, hoping he’d divorce her).

Karla starts talking a little smack about Luci. Damian doesn’t want to hear it. He tells Karla to zip it and besides, Luci is Senora Luci to her. Karla says we’re going to be sisters-in-law, I think we can tutear.

Flo and Hugo go looking for Mili and Al. They ask Gloria if she’s seen them. Gloria lies and says nope, but Gamuza spills the beans and tells them that Al and Mili left together.

Back at the mansion, Damian tries to be the voice of reason with Connie and Luci. He’s brilliant plan is for Nestor and Andrea to move into the house. This way they’d avoid scandal and keep everything under this roof. Inside, Connie and Andrea will be a couple and Nestor and Luci will be a couple. Outside, it will appear that Connie and Luci are still together. They end up agreeing to it and toast to their plan.

Val and Rocky rehash that he loves her. She apologizes for behaving poorly towards him since she’s returned. They decide to kiss and make up.

In the mansion foyer, Hugo attempts to calm Flo down and explain that Al is understandably upset with what he’s learned tonight. Flo doesn’t like the idea of Mili and Al being together. Hugo says that it doesn’t bother him because he trusts Mili. Flo reminds him that Mili is with Al on her wedding night, not with Hugo.

Val and Rocky enter the house and they cover up their relationship to Flo and Hugo.

Connie and Luci come out to the foyer and both want to talk to Val. She’s not interested in hearing what they have to say. Damian tells Val about the new living arrangements and Val tells them they all are crazy. Val takes off. Andrea says it must be too much for her to take in one day. Luci says she’s wiped out and she heads upstairs. Andrea joins her and they walk up the staircase like best friends.

Domingo, Marisela, and Mateo rehash the evening. Mateo (in true Eddie Haskel fashion) says that it is terrible when a marriage ends after so many years. Domingo likes him and tells Mari that he’s much better than that Bobby she was dating before.

Mili and Al are at the soccer field, sitting in the stands. He declares his love for her and how much he needs her. He tells her that she’s the only love of his life and she tells him likewise. They kiss. END OF EPISODE.

This episode even topped Friday's. I'm going to try to post the lyrics for that amazing song, "rata de dos patas," which seems to be a famous insult song? Stay tuned.

Cathy: Thank you for the recap. I'm stunned. I couldn't believe that Luci actually said it out loud. She has been such a hateful monster that I thought Al would learn the truth in some other way. But, the song, it couldn't get any worse than that. How can her performance go unnoticed when her husband is a prominent politician? I know, Noveland logic.

Then there is the scene where the so-called adults agree to live an exchanged life for the sake of public appearances. And, Damian is the ringmaster!

The big question now - Al and Mili and Al and Flo and Mili and Hugo. I don't think Damian can take charge of this situation.

From lower Ala

Great recap, Cathy. Thank you for spelling "mike" correctly. It is one of my pet peeves that the use of "mic" is becoming widespread. Let's take a stance against that here on Caray Caray.

Here are the lyrics for the song (which I found by Googling, not by painstakingly trying to write it down while watching the show).

Tile :Paquita La Del Barrio - Rata De Dos Patas

Rata inmunda
animal rastrero
escoria de la vida
adefecio mal hecho

infra humano
expectro del infierno
maldita sabandija
cuanto daño me has hecho

alimaña
culebra ponsoñosa
deshecho de la vida
te odio y te desprecio

rata de dos patas
te estoy hablando a ti
porque un bicho rastrero

aun siendo el mas maldito
comparado contigo
se queda muy chikito

maldita sanguijuela
maldita cucaracha
que infectas donde picas
que hieres y que matas

alimaña
culebra ponsoñosa
deshecho de la vida
te odio y te desprecio

rata de dos patas
te estoy hablando a ti
porque un bicho rastrero

aun siendo el mas maldito
comparado contigo
se queda muy chikito

ME ESTAS OLLIENDO INUTIL LLENA DEL INFIERNO CUANTO TE ODIO Y TE DESPRECIO!

maldita sanguijuela
maldita cucaracha
que infectas donde picas
que hieres y que matas

alimaña
culebra ponsoñosa
deshecho de la vida
te odio y te desprecio

rata de dos patas
te estoy hablando a ti
porque un bicho rastrero
aun siendo el mas maldito

Luci admitted she used Val's hair for the test. How come they didn't realize it was a female? TN science!

Here's a video of some famous singer singing the song.

Thanks so much Cathy.

Wow! I would never have guessed in a million years this was how the big secret would come out. That's why I love this show, it keeps surprising me!

The reaction shots to Luci's song were great, I especially liked the way Florencia's father had his hand covering his mouth.

Thanks for the lyrics, Nina, I didn't catch a lot of the words during the show (I still have a time lag in my head while I'm translating!).

I can't imagine where things will go now with Al & Flo & Mili & Hugo.

Family dinners should really get interesting now!

Had to admit I enjoyed this episode thoroughly...at last the truth comes out.

Hugo handled it like a saint, however Florencia's reaction made much more sense.

Great to see Val and Rocky finally together. How long will this last?

Anyway, thanks for the great recap, the words to the song and Nina's link in the blog lines. (and for all the help yesterday partner)

Hugo is behaving like a saint because he knows that Mili really loves Al. I think he always knew he was on borrowed time. Since he is new Hugo, he has been honest and can take the high road.

Everything Flo did was a lie, so she is playing the classic "go on the offensive when you should be on the defensive" card. Can't wait to see what they have in store for her and her large pointy nose and diamond nose stud (okay, that was mean).

On the lighter side, in the midst of all the angst swirling around Luci's Pandora's box, the reunion between Rocky and Val was very sweet. She felt thoroughly sorry for having hurt him, and he so quickly forgave her, and he have her such advice about her brother.

I'm afraid I could not resist trying to translate the song, since there's such great vocabulary. Some words I could not find, though.

Filthy rat,
despicable animal
dregs of life
misformed ugly thing

Inhuman
spit out of? the hell fire?
damned bug
what damage you have done to me

animal?
poisonous snake
stripped of life
I hate you and despise you

Rat of two paws
I am speaking to you
because you are a despicable bug

Although I am feeling damned
compared with you
I am small potatoes

Damned leech
Damned cockroach
You infect what you bite
You hurt and you kill.

Holy cannoli; I didn't think it could be even better than Friday's episode and then it WAS. The song was awesome. I liked how Mili was trying not to laugh, and the band was whispering to each other and giggling, like this is the best wedding they've ever played.

I think my liking of Ramses was premature. You do not insult my favorite pinguino and stay on my good side, Plastic Boy.

How did Damien manage to negotiate the worst agreement ever? Stay tuned as everyone in the family becomes emaciated because no one can get a single bite down at any meal. It was bad enough having Flor and Mili in the same house.

This episode proved once and for all that Luci is insane. Her thought process, if she has one, escapes me. I've spent my son's entire life lying to him to protect him and let him have the powerful Belmonte name and then in one burst of madness tell the truth, not in private so I can explain myself, but on a mike in a public place at my nephew's wedding, oh yeah to my son's one true love.

The looks on people's faces was hilarious. Can you imagine being at a wedding with this stuff going down? I'm surprised people didn't just get up and leave. It was like a gigantic train wreck with a hypnotized audience.

Meanwhile Val is outside missing most of it. This poor girl still has a few more shocks in store. You had to feel for her realizing that her brother isn't her brother at all. Idiot Luci never even seemed to think how many other people would be hurt by her revelation.

Yike how creepy is Damian's plan to avoid scandal by having everyone living together. This will be like a French farce with people shuttling back and forth between various bedrooms with Flo on Patrol to keep Al away from Mili. I've always thought Damian was the biggest creep on the show but with everyone going along with his plan now all the adults except the servants have gone into Creepville. Good thing the children are young adults and not still kids. Think of the example they would be seeing. Makes my skin crawl.

I agree that Hugo knows where he stands with Mili and that he trusts her. Flo is sure to take the best offense against her own lies and errors of omission by going on the attack. Any bets she will blame mili for not telling Al the truth. Then again Mili didn't know who Al's real father was but Flo did. More fireworks tonight I'm sure.

I am surprised that Luciana told her biggest life secret (that Constancio wasn't Alejandro's dad) to everyone the way she did. There were more pleasant ways to reveal this to a loved one. Luciana claims that she loves her son and all the bad things she did was for his benefit. I don't think so. She did all those things for herself. She wanted to look good to others.

This whole scene of her confession just blew it. She looks bad and the family does.

The downstairs workers are looking good now. If I were one of them, I would think that these people were crazy.

I THINK THEY ARE CRAZY - Luciana, Constancio, Andrea, Nestor, and Damien. I predict that Hugo will get crazier. I also predict that he will become our bad guy that will try to hurt Mili. The story will need a bad person that wil try to separate Al and Mili permanently. In the original Munea Brava story, for which this show is rewritten from, the person that tries to separate Mili and Al are good was Pilar. Here Pilar is not in the story anymore.
SO I SAY HUGO WILL TURN BAD OR EVEN THEN EVIL.

I think how Val knows that her parents don't know all and has lost respect for them. I guess this whole eye-opener will help her grow and become stronger where she can face them and do what she wants. At least, I hope.

I ENJOY THIS EPISODE. I THINK IT WILL JUST GET INTERESTING. We will wait and see.

Thanks for the recap. You, guys, the recapper are all great, helpful, and humorous.

Here's another link with interesting information about Paquita la del Barrio, the singer. She is very well known, and sings anthems about strong women vs. lousy men.

Cathy, thanks for this great recap. I watch Guapos fairly often but don't comment, as you all know, but couldn't help it today. That was one amazing show with Luci letting it all hang out there. The song was too much (she did a very compelling job of singing it or lip syncing if that's what she was doing)! If anyone didn't see it, I agree it's worth finding on YouTube or whatever. Whew. NinaK, thanks for the words. Good point about the female DNA.

Poor Alej! What a heck of a time to learn about your true parenthood. Poor everyone--no one's going to live happily ever after in this one, it seems. Damien is no yenta, folks. He may have the solution in mind, but no way will it play out well in the house, no matter how big it is. Although it looks like Andrea and Luci are going to be best buds before long...and the youthful foursome? Disaster, especially now that Alej won't have to feel guilty about having the hots for Mili.

I just had to chime in today, folks. ¡Discúlpame!

Jeanne

Thanks for the recap...

"Oh Damien, indeed you are my hero..wow what a hip outlook on the situation, it is so Swingtown."

for those of you who don't know..Swingtown is the CBS..swinging 70's summer TV show. Bad acting, worse dialogue and really really really cliche sayings that should have been left in the 70's. But great for laughs

What can be next for Damien, this man could broker peace in the middle-east.
Didn't you just love how Damien was far more concerned in keeping his status as rent-free not married to Karla, not in jail self, than worry about dumped twice son.

I think it was wrong for Mili to run off with Al, yeah I know, I know, but still in all Hugo deserves more. Also notice how Al is going to try his tried and true method of easing pain, boinking.

Next Pedro, hello ASSHAT, he totally reminds me of some guy you went out with sophmore year, he never calls, but sees you with someone else senior year and he tries to hit on you...Loser

Need I repeat, I love you Damien because you are bad, but are fully aware of it.

This was my favorite episode yet, and I have been watching since it started. I loved Luciana's version of Rata de dos Patas. For those who are confused about why she "spilled the beans" in front of everyone after years of meticulously hiding the truth...it's because she was drunk!! She wanted to humiliate Constancio whom she hates. Also she thought she could get away with it because Millie is married and Flo is pregnant. I tend to sympathize with Luciana because I believe she is in an abusive relationship (with Constancio) which has made her mentally unstable, impulsive and very borracha.

My favorite line was what Damien said when Nestor and them were wondering if Luciana was lying: "kids and drunks tell the truth"

Well, I will be shocked--SHOCKED, I say!-- if Al's tried-and-true method succeeds this time. I think Mili is too moral to give in at this point; smooching the not-groom is bad enough. I think she'll try to follow through with being all married to Hugo, but no one will be satisfied, physically or emotionally. And then what?

Al did succeed in stealing Mili away from her wedding AGAIN, though...good work, Al, I was fooled into thinking you were joking when you mentioned it in the garden the other night.

Hello to all ;) Thanks for the awesome recap Cathy. I don't know how you found the time to write in between all the laughing and groaning this episode incited. Can't get over Damian's "modest proposal." I was so disappointed that Nestor didn't kick Luci to the curb when he found out she lied to him, but it just set everything up for the ridiculous "let's all live together playing musical lovers" plan of Damian. He can be a fool, but sometimes he's an evil genius. I also got a kick of Braulio (sorry Sara, it wasn't Damian) telling the staff that "children and drunks always tell the truth." I was also very proud of him for following his own advice (he thinks Al's no good for Mili 'cause he hurt her) and not taking Pedro back. Now we just have to find him a nice guy...

I have always loved that song (the one Al sung, not "Rata de dos Pata" - although it was quite funny and I especially loved Mili nodding in agreement as Luci listed all the vermin that was still not as bad as Connie). I have attached two clips of it. One is of it's original performer and author, the late Spanish singer/songwriter Miguel Gallardo, who wrote this over 30 years ago. I guess we can peg this a classic. I will try to translate the lyrics to this (and maybe finish "Rata" while I'm at it since NinaK was kind enough to post the bulk of it. I may have to dig for the slang portions) later this week. This contains the Spanish lyrics as well.
http://www.musicstarx.net/videos/video-and-lyric-of-hoy-tengo-ganas-de-ti-miguel-gallardo/

Here is another version I found on YouTube, with footage from another awesome TN called "La Traicion" (I'm still in withdrawal). I think the singer is David Bustamante, but can't be sure since the name wasn't listed, it just sounded like another clip of him singing it (there are over a 100 different postings for this by a number of different singers).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPvulfcxV1o

Interesting bit about odd grammar. The song title "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti" literally translates as "Today I have a Want of You." "Tener Ganas" is usually in reference to craving/jonesing for some type of food. For example, "Tengo ganas de arroz con leche" - I want/crave rice pudding. It is also used to describe someone itching for a fight, as we recently saw in "Pasion" when our main man Mario told drunken Gonzalo "Hace mucho tiempo que te tengo ganas" (I have been wanting - a chance at - you for a while). The ensuing swordfight was awesome! It also can mean wanting to do an activity: "Tengo ganas de ir a la playa" - I want to go to the beach. Last, and certainly the most appropriate in the case of both the song and the scene, an actual want/desire. The more grammatically sound statement would have been "tengo ganas de tenerte" - I want to have you, but it wouldn't sound quite as poetic. The whole song is like that - oddly constructed sentences, and it gives it certain "rough around the edges" feel. I think I have to go take a cold shower now ;) It was definitely not the most appropriate thing for an ex-boyfriend/alleged brother to sing at his ex-girlfriend/alleged sister's wedding, but that's hardly the word to describe anything that happened at this wedding.

Margarita: Thank you for all your explanations and research. I'm going to follow some of your directions tomorrow.

Thank you Cathy for the recap of this hot hot hot episode!

So much happened, it’s hard to pick what to comment on, but here goes:

I loved the Val/Rocky scenes, but I kept waiting for him to tell her the part about Connie coming after him with a shotgun. Also, when Rocky was dragging her off, an unknown photographer passed by snapping party photos. I was wondering if the press was there, but we didn’t see any sign of them later, so I guess not.

So Pedro the bar owner starts being possessive with Braulio after totally ignoring him for three years? Sheesh. Good thing that Braulio blew him off.

Al was really something choosing Mili’s wedding as a good time to sing her a big sloppy love song – and with his wife looking on! I loved Hugo’s acting during this scene – how happy could he be? I also loved Connie’s acting during Luci’s song. It’s gotta be tough to just stand there and react and he was fabulous.

Mili was very unkind to Hugo, leaving him at his own wedding party and taking off with Al. Yeah Al was upset, but poor Hugo had been waiting years for this moment. Hugo was amazingly calm about it, and I sure thought Flor reacted like any wife would. Only in novelaland would Mili’s behavior been seen as noble and good.

I can’t wait to see everyone under one roof. I loved Damien’s machinations. Plus here he is, known to everyone as an opportunist and crook, and yet they are all listening to him like he’s some kind of PR guru. And when Luci and Andrea went up the stairs to bed, were they arm-in-arm? It looked like it, but I didn’t rewind to look again.

I wonder what tonight will bring. After the big revelation last night, I was wondering what the writers were going to do for the next months, but when I heard Damien’s plan for everyone in one house, I was hopeful that there was still plenty to keep us entertained.

It is interesting that Guapos is based on the older Muneca Brava but it is not following the story line ridgidly. In MB Pilar did come back to cause trouble but I read nothing that indicated that will happen on Guapos. Also the Hugo character in MB was much crueler and was a wife beater (and the wife was not Mili). That also does not seem to be the way this one is headed. Gaupos has tended to stick to the story of the lost and abandoned children and has not drifted away from that main theme and seems unlikely to at this point. I'm tempted to see how the Damian character was handled in MB but do not want to ruin the story for myself or anyone else.

And to think I used to think meals at the Belmontes were bad now they will be awful and as someone pointed out we should see wholesale weight loss as no one will be able to eat. LOL

How awkward to be left on your wedding night! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it wasn't exactly the cool thing to do. Hugo definitely deserves more consideration. I even felt kind of sorry for Flor, hugely pregnant and having her husband disappear with the woman she knows he loves. Alex married her and knowingly created a child with her, so now he has to deal with it.

I want Alejandro & Milagros together, but I hope they don't keep humiliating their spouses.

But hey, the bar for decency wasn't set very high after Luciana's little show!

Thanks for looking up the lyrics....I didn't have the time to write it all down and translate, since I'm just barely getting the recap in before leaving for work.

I think we're going to be in for some silly hijinks between the revolving couples in casa de Belmonte. I do like the goofy humor of this show.

I thought the acting last night was pretty top notch. Connie during the song was restraint to perfection. Also, when Rocky declared his love to Val and explained what happened 3 years before----you could just feel his love.

Gotta go and watch tonight's show, I'm really looking forward to it.
