Pasión de Gavilanes, Mon., July 14 - A wedding reception to remember

Rosario entertains the wedding guests

Abuelo listens to Benito and Belinda in Grabi's bedroom

Belinda and Benito caught 'in flagrante delicto' by the Rosales

Franco and Sarita at Santa Clara

Juan David looks on while Juan and Norma kiss

Rosario's performance at the reception was amusing. The gents sure liked it. The straight-laced ladies - not so much.

Who would have thought the wedding would get even more grotesque after the bride and groom left!

I nearly died laughing at Abuelo's intrepretation of what he overhead Belinda and Benito saying when they were trying to sew up Benito's pants ("it came out..." "the hole is too small.."). And then again when Raquel came to Melissa's house and Leandro said that the only way Benito could abuse Belinda was to try and steal her plate of food.

Belinda and Benito - what a perfect couple. It would be funny except that Belinda is accessory after the fact in Juan's kidnapping. She knew about it and I think she hired the matones.

You were right, Marie Celeste. It was very obvious that Mario wasn't really there for part of the episode.

Thanks for the post and the pictures Jean ;) The shot of JD looking at the kissing 'rents is what I was talking about earlier.

Yup, it was Belinda that hired the matones for Dinora.

I didn't get the feeling Juan wasn't there in this one, but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. I did see it in the bloopers though. Not from this episode, but rather from one earlier in the show where Juan and Oscar were fighting (I know, which one? LOL). Anywhoo, Franco runs in just in time to see Oscar accidentally yank the wig off the stuntman. I wonder if he used them often. There was an outtake from the first episode on the scene where Juan slammed Oscar's face in the dough for talking trash about sis. He must have slammed him pretty hard (and then threw him on the floor) because Oscar started bleeding inside his mouth. This is one of the down sides of method actors - they get too into their scenes and sometimes end up getting (or in this case causing) injuries. This reminded me of one of the outtakes from the latest "Superman" movie. In it, poor Parker Possie had to do numerous takes slapping Kevin Spacey because they weren't "real enough" for him! It's a good thing the results are good though ;)

Oh, I just thought of another great moment in this one: The driver taking Gabi and Fernie to the airport and shaking his head as he heard them talk about worrying about their happiness!

Is it me, or is Fernie wearing a lot more eyeliner lately?

It was nice to hear Michel Brown (Franco) singing. I don't think that was Dana Garcia though, it sounded like the same girl that dubs Rosario's singing.

Just a quick note- Juan was DEFINITELY absent in these scenes. I remember reading when this novela was in its first run that the actor (and his wife at the time, Natalia Streignard) contracted hepatitis (from tainted food) during the filming and they had to work around him for a few weeks. Interestingly, this is not the last time the writers will have to work around Mario because of health problems during this novela- Poor Mario

I didn’t realize Mario had health problems during the filming. He still manages to look good, though. I always like the scenes where the brothers are driving and the camera pans across their faces. This time it showed Oscar, then Franco, and then Juan, who is so gorgeous just SITTING there! It was nice that the couples got together. There were some funny scenes in this episode, what with the horse laxative and threading the needle. I am getting tired of hearing Rosario sing the same songs over and over, though. Also, I don’t like that they are all nice to Pepita, even Norma. I would be so uncomfortable in a situation like that, with the drinking and a scantily-clad woman flashing her cleavage all over, I’d have to leave the room. Yet they are all smiling and participating in this party, and nice to Martin. I would be chastising him for encouraging a woman like Pepita.

I hope you don’t mind if I go on and on about La Traicion here, but I must say I LOVED the recaps you just posted of Chapters 1 and 2, Jean! They were so interesting to read! I FINALLY made it to the library Saturday morning to use their high-speed Internet, and I went straight to YouTube to watch LT. I saw parts of 1 and 2, and watched several compilation-type videos which showed some of the best scenes such as their wedding, Hugo in glasses, Hugo kissing Soledad when she thought she was dreaming, etc. It was sooo neat! Now I don’t feel so deprived and in the dark! I also saw what I assume is the drunken Alcides in the cemetery scene that I heard about. That was amusing to watch (although I much prefer the Alcides who drinks water!). I did not bring headphones or anything with me, so I was just watching the pictures, but I was able to figure out what was going on from what I had read. Also, they limit you to one-hour sessions so I didn’t have much time, but it was a start. Just as my session was about to end, I checked my email and there was the one from you saying you had posted recaps for 1 & 2, so when I went back home to read them, I was like, “Yeah, I SAW that!” And the pictures you posted are great. I also saw some promos for LT. I kept thinking, “Where was I when they showed these?” If I had seen those promos and caught LT from the start, I would have gone nuts over it! But every time I ever caught any bit of Telemundo, it was always scantily-clad, big-breasted women. That’s ALL I saw! Even one of my friends said how every time she catches any bit of Telemundo, “they are all running around in their underwear!” I remember one time seeing a scene with women in very skimpy bikinis working at a car wash, gyrating around soooo suggestively, with close-up views on their body parts. I just couldn’t believe what Telemundo got away with! And I was thinking all Latin women were like this! That’s why when I happened to stumble upon Victoria months ago, I was so surprised. I thought, “Wow, she’s DRESSED!” And so were most of the women on that show. And Victoria’s boyfriend Jeronimo seemed so NICE! I thought there had to be a catch, that he was really evil and owned a chain of strip joints or something, but the more I watched, the more I realized he really was a good guy, truly in love with Victoria and treating her well, and that Victoria was nice, too. And then as you know, I kept catching glimpses of LT between commercial breaks of other shows, until I got hooked on that, but only really saw the last two months, boo hoo. Oh well, that was still so exciting! And also, where was I during PdG, which I hear was so WILDLY popular and shown two times a day a few years ago? I never heard of it, never once stumbled upon it while flipping channels, and only found out about it through this board after watching LT. Oh well. Anyway, thanks again for the recaps, and I am really looking forward to reading more! And seeing pictures! Wow, that first episode was so neat, just seeing Soledad applying the ointment on Hugo’s hand, and the way he was looking at her, oooohhhh. I will try to go back to the library to view more YouTube. One thing though, is that it is kind of embarrassing when the love scenes come on, because there are people sitting next to you and walking around behind you. Much different than in the privacy of your own home! I still want to catch some more love scenes from both LT and PdG, especially the ones they cut out of PdG reruns. But I don’t want people walking by or sitting next to me to think I have come to the library just to watch steamy love scenes—even if it is true, lol! Oh well, hopefully I can catch them during a time when it is fairly deserted.

I LOVED the Santa Clara couples weekend, with everybody all relaxed & no scheming psychopaths on anyone's heels. When Norma retreated here with Jimena to plot out her life way back when she found out she was pregnant, I got the impression that this was a more modest vacation home, a sort of lake cabin-type place. But with the scenes shown here, the fact that it has a pool makes me believe it's a little less modest than I had pictured! Pretty cozy crib. Why Norma wouldn't agree to stay a couple of extra days alone with Juan is something makes nooooo sense to me. As if the hacienda couldn't get along with out her for 2 more days? I don't think so.

As for the singing, I do think that was Danna singing along with Michel Brown. I know she sings, and I hear enough of a difference in the tone quality to be sure it's not the same voice that does Rosario's tunes. Speaking of, for a telenovela that runs for 196 episodes, you'd think they'd expand the soundtrack a little. I sometimes feel like if I hear any of the Bar Alcalá songs even one more time, my eyes are going to start bleeding. They actually did issue a Vol. 2 of the soundtrack, but it's virtually impossible to find. I actually only learned about it by seeing it on eBay many months ago, when I first started watching the show. Had I known how rare it was I'd have purchased it just to get the song, "No Supiste", which is one we haven't heard much of yet, but I suspect it will be heard more in the future.

The whole Benito/Belinda thing was pretty funny. Ironically enough, as a couple, I think they kind of work. But I agree; they're silly, but far from harmless, especially Belinda.

So Mario missed work here due to hepatitis, huh? That had to be nasty. Anon 1:51, I know Mario cracked 3 vertebrae at one point early on the the show when he was thrown from a horse. Later on, I know he hurt his foot in a motorcycle mishap. However, they added that injury right into the story line - filming him in his actual hospital bed, if I recall correctly - and I think the show was the better for it!

I remember watching those scenes and noticing a significant improvement in Mario's portrayal of pain behavior! ;-) Seriously. That's one thing I REALLY take note of with actors, and these guys have been pretty woefully inconsistent. One case in point being Franco's same-night recovery after his beating the night of the grand re-opening of Leandro's store. One minute he's leaning over in pain in the car; minutes later, after a goodnight kiss from Sara, he skips his way into the hacienda. That Sara must have some kiss! ;-)

Hi Marie Celeste: I wondered about the pool too. It sounded like an indoor pool (echo-y). It certainly didn't look that it belonged to the view they give us of the house at Santa Clara. I guess they wanted to have each couple in a different location: J&N in the living room; F&S outside and if they couldn't have Óscar and Jimena in the big bathtub, they could be in a pool. They could have gone back to the waterfall.
where they made love for the first time, though.

I know what you mean about the inconsistency in the portrayal of the consequences of violence. Armando was in the hospital for weeks after the one beating he took. Juan should have been in intensive care after what he went through in the cabaña but he didn't even have any bruises. He was able to carry Ruth and the day after he was rescued, he was fine. The star of the show has special recuperative powers!

Thanks for the picture of Juan David with his arms crossed, Jean. He (she) really is adorable!

I think Benito & Belinda are a pretty good couple, even though I would have never come up with them on my own. Although I guess Benito has been pretty harmless, I usually want to smack him because of his Raquel Jr. attitudes.

Speaking of Raquel, I was surprised a few episodes back when she told Gabriela she would support her decision to marry Fernando even though it was obvious she thought it was scandalous. Points to her for being a friend instead of an old harpie all the time.

So the jar contained horse laxative! I was trying to figure out what they said (with my limited spanish vocabulary and no captions on YouTube!), and all I could get was horse something, so I wasn't sure if it was a linament or what.

Jean: Your mention of Juan being fine the day after he was rescued reminded me of another hinky health portrayal. It never sat well with me that Ruth became so incredibly delicate once she joined Juan in Dinora’s Love Nest of Perversion. From what I could surmise, it appeared that she’d only been there a couple of days or so before they broke out. I assume they were also providing her with whatever sustenance was being given to Juan, so while she could plausibly have been tired & weak from hunger and thirst, there’s no way she should have been on death’s door the way they made her seem. And then poor Juan, after all the abuse he’d taken, not showing a scratch & forced to carry her! I felt like writing Telemundo to register a complaint of “fortachón abuse.” ;-)

I like that: fortachón abuse ;-)

It was ridiculous. Ruth was a captive only a few hours. She arrived just as the matones were going to kill Juan. They didn't get to have any fun with her before Dínora arrived and beat up the matones. Then the matones leave and Juan overpowers Dínora. Then they got caught again by the matones and Juan takes another horrible beating. Then they get put in the pit. Juan and Ruth escape from the pit and night falls. It all happened on the same day, which I calculate was the fourth or fifth day that Juan had been held in the cabin. Juan refused to eat while he was a captive. So he's certainly weak and he's been beaten up four times and whipped by Dínora and it's Ruth who collapses and is on the point of death when it gets a little chilly? Come on.

Howdy =)

Cindybin, Pepita's clothes don't phase me (especially since we get to see our boys shirtless on plenty of occasions). What weirded me out was when she told Franco she saw how badly Rosario treated him. In those days, Pepita did nothing but badmouth poor Franco, and was pleased as punch that Rosario dumped him to marry Armando. To top things off, she went to Rosario with the chisme of how much Franco despised her and said "I'm telling you this because I know you don't care about him anymore." If she didn't think Rosi would care, why bring it up in the first place?! One could argue this was her way of making Rosi give up on trying to get together with Franco, but no matter how you look at it, she's being a hypocrite.

So now Gabi has a sixth sense as well! It was nice to see her actually concerned about her girls. It was also a nice continuity thing to have Fernando hitting the casino. Way back in episode one, he and Norma were arguing about him needing money from Bernie for his poker debts. We finally see that side of him again.

I noticed that Óscar doesn't seem to have his little BMW convertible anymore. Maybe it is still at the police station being gone over with a fine tooth comb by the local CSI team looking for evidence on who kidnapped Juan. Or maybe, the producers didn't want to crash a BMW or maybe even in TN-land no one would believe that four people could fit in that little car.
So for whatever reason, it was some anonymous sedan that gets its windshield shot up and crashes.

We are obviously being made to think that the shooter is Rosario so I assume that it isn't. Where would Rosario have learned to fire a rifle with a spotting scope?

I noticed that when Grabi called the Hacienda after she got her premonition, abuelo was fully dressed dozing in his wheelchair. It was clear that Dominga, who appears to be the only servant in the Hacienda, had already gone to bed. How was Don Martín going to go to bed? Presumably, he couldn't do it alone. And when Norma called him from the hospital, abuelo had to get Dominga to answer the phone. Couldn't he have a phone by his bed?

Just silliness. It looks like the mysterious killer in black is going to strike again tomorrow.

Juan David looks like Gabi's real son. Does anyone know if this is true?
