Guapos: Monday 8/5/08- "I am Woman, Hear me Roar!"

We start again at the Three Stooges office, where Alejandro is getting the news that once again Connie has seriously undercut their asking price, and another client has been snatched away. The boys just can’t compete with Connie. Al is upset and he goes to share the news with his partners. Rocky and Val are in his office, talking about their upcoming wedding and Lina and Bobby are in the lobby talking about their upcoming wedding. Perhaps if they devoted a little more time to work and less time to socializing they might be doing better, I'm just saying. Al’s not any better, because we all know that if Mili were there, Al wouldn’t be doing any work either.

Back in Guadalajara, Luci is in some sort of talk therapy. She’s discussing how she needs to rescue herself and how painful it is to think of the terrible things she did to her children. The therapist urges her to hug and kiss her kids when she sees them, look them in the eye and tell them that she loves them. This is sure to undo all the ugliness (because she said she did it all for love in the first place---not a big fan of this therapist's approach, but what do I know).

Damian urges Karla to have an abortion. She says no way, it is her body and she’s the one to decide what happens---so papa don't preach, 'cuz she's keeping the baby (I know, not quite the right context for that song title, but let's just roll with it). Damian’s ticked at her ulta-feminist stance. Of course, he thinks the baby is his (and it could be), she thinks he's trying to protect Hugo (whom she thinks is the baby's daddy).....it is just some cooky pregnancy fun, I know I'm laughing.

We are treated to a montage of Luci getting help at the wellness clinic---nutrition info, make-up, talk therapy, later a haircut. We know she’s doing well because we get to see her laughing.

In his office, Connie ponders Rosario’s picture and is shocked that she’s alive. Andrea catches him with the photo (he tried to hide it when she walked in, but did a horrible job). She gets her greedy claws on the picture and rips it up. She tells Connie she’s sick of competing with a ghost and reminds him that she’s the one who’s alive. Andrea storms out and Connie mumbles that Rosario’s alive, too. He calls his private detective and tells him he’s got a new job for him (this guy must be on permanent retainer).

Peralta and some other white guys are having a lunch meeting. They talk about the party and some Connie gossip (you know women get a bad rap as gossipers, but this just goes to show, men are as bad, if not worse, when it comes to gossip). One of them brings up how there is a rich widow wanting to give money to the party. Her name is Rosela Dillano and she’s a Mexican who’s been living in Italy for many years. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who this is, even if you didn’t see the previews for this episode. Said woman shows up. The men gush over her and the tight dress she’s wearing. They talk about the party and Constancio. Peralta says Connie’s not a viable candidate for party leader because he’s got some scandalous rumors floating around---like he’s got a daughter that he doesn’t recognize, she’s the product of a relationship Connie had with some servant he knocked up years ago and now he’s got the kid working in his house as a servant. Rosela knows immediately that her dead kid must be alive, because she rightly assumes it is her child he’s talking about. Rosela excuses herself from the meeting…..but before she goes she tells the men that her offer of money only comes if Connie’s the party prez.

Mili and Candy discuss how her life is like a telenovela plot. Mili spills her guts about Alejandro and Hugo and she almost slips and says that Connie is her dad. She’s very close to letting that cat out of the bag. I suspect it will happen soon---since we’re in the ultimos capitulos, it’s a safe bet. They talk about Candy’s life and to be honest, I didn’t pay all that much attention to it….something about her fiance cheating on her with her sister and her running out on their wedding. Now she’s dating a plastic surgeon named Santiago. Sounds like her life is a telenovlea plot as well, and that would be because it is. Anything else I glaringly missed? I’m sure that when her show, Las Tontas No Van al Cielo, starts to air on Univision, we’ll get the whole story. Later Mili wishes her luck with Santiago and Patricio-----so which one is played by Jaime and which one is played by Valentino? Anyone checked the show out on YouTube or elsewhere on the internet, yet? (OK I looked at Wikipedia---Jaime plays Santiago and Valentino plays Patricio---the ex-fiance).

Bobby, Al, and Rocky discuss if Connie’s got someone spying on their business---watching who’s coming and going. You think? Nestor shows up in their office and wants to talk to Al. He once again offers his son some money for the business. Al refuses. Nestor appeals to him to think of his partners, to think of his daughter. Al tells him that if he cared about him, he’d leave him alone. After Nestor leaves, Al fills in the others on Nestor’s offer and his refusal to take it. Rocky and Bobby mock Al, they don’t need the money because right now they’re swimming in it. Al gets angry with them wanting him to accept help from Nestor. He tells them to leave him alone.

Connie is on the phone, laughing his evil laugh…..he’s just found out he’s taken another client away from the competition. Damian comes in and tells Connie that Karla insists on having the baby and that he’s way too old to be changing diapers. Connie advises Damian to set Karla up in an apartment and give her a monthly allowance. He tells Damian he’s got to accept that right now, Connie’s got him in the palm of his hand----so fork over the papers that Mili signed and help clean up Connie’s name or else. Damian doesn’t seem too quick to jump on that bandwagon. Connie warns him, that if by some strange twist of fate, Karla suffers an accident and loses the baby, Connie’s going to let everyone know that Damian was behind it.

Rosela meets with her assistant, Paolo (seems very effeminate, perhaps a future love connection for Braulio? Because honestly, I just don't see Braulio and Pedro as a couple). She’s depressed and wants to cancel her plans for the day. He presses for details on what’s happening. She tells him her once-thought-dead daughter is really alive. She wants to find out the truth and she’ll do it alone.

At the convent, the good doctor and Padre Manuel discuss how Mother Superior is getting her affairs in order because she’s running out of time. PM tells the sisters to go in and say goodbye. Macarena is back from the jungle, still disguised as Sor Cachete. She shows little emotion regarding the end of MS’s days.

Back in the cellar, Sor Cachete appeals to Mono to let her free. He’s all for it, if she’d tell them where her parents’ ashes could be found.

Macarena goes in to see MS. MS urges her to take care of the others when she it gone. MS gives Sor Macarena the plaques for her parents’ niche. Sor Mac asks where the niches are and MS is shocked that Sor Catalina/Mac could have forgotten something so important. Before MS can tell her, Padre Manuel comes in and asks Sor Mac to leave, he’s going to give MS her Last Rights. Macarena is thwarted again, dangnabit.

Mili and Luci arrive back home. Luci’s all decked out. She assures Mili she’s ready to face Connie and the kids, but she’s anxious. She thanks Mili for all she’s done and tells her that she’s going to devote her efforts to getting Mili and Al back together. Mili asks if she’s ready to think of Mili as a daughter-in-law and Luci says she already thinks of her as a daughter. They hug.

Rosela visits the convent and gets PM to let her in to see MS. He's reluctant at first, but he ends up allowing her in to see the dying woman.

Connie tells Hugo that as soon as Damian gives him the papers that Mili signed, they will proceed with a divorce. Hugo wants to know if he’s got any say in this matter and Connie tells him he doesn’t. Mili and Luci walk in. Connie’s surprised to see Luci and Hugo lights into Mili about taking off and not telling him. Luci says that she and Mili have something to tell the two of them….. “You’ll never walk all over us again.” Mili adds, “Never, ever!”. The men have shocked looks on their faces and this is the END OF EPISODE.

Cathy: Thanks for the great recap.

I thought Candy said that her husband and sister got together for a little getting it on on her wedding day. What a thought.

Today is my fashion comment day. In walks Rosario/Rosela in the worst looking dress I've seen in a long time. Was it a giraffe print? Or, what? Probably an Or, what? Is her face real? How about the hair. This woman is an optical illusion.

Al, wake up. Nestor is your father, and he wants to help you. Grow up, you need the help. I have to hand it to Nestor - he has a high tolerance for fools. I bet he's still in love with Luciana. The new Luciana may really be the old Luciana. Constancio looked shocked to see her. I hope she has a big long speech that ends with I'm outta here.

Thanks for the recap, Cathy.

Seee???? Luci has a new hairstyle = new etapa in her life. I swear, it's in the Telenovela rules.
;o)

Rosela/Rosario's face looks okay until we get the close-up on a high-def TV screen.

Candy, my dear, you cannot right the wrongs one has done by loving them all to pieces. Amends must be made, forgiveness must be asked. Oh well... sounds like "product placement" for the new show LTNVAC. Reminds me of Grey's Anatomy and Addison's new TV show/spinoff.

Viente Anos, Viente Anos...La Madastras (sp) flashback and yes pasofina...that was indeed one butt-ugly dress. Egads...in one scene it looked pink & brown and another white and brown.

Yeh well Mili & Luci may be able to keep Consti & Hugo under control..but damn Andrea....she can be scary.

Being that I have little or no fondness for any of these AssHats, I agreed AL, STFU. Jeez what is with the hate for Nestor? Damn Dude he never lied to you. I guess if Consti can't be your Daddy you don't want one at all. I'd be thrilled to be out of that gene pool.

Thanks for the great recap, Cathy. I just realized that we don't have your photo either. We've been bugging 5ft for her picture (are you listening, 5 ft?), and now I notice you don't have one either.

I agree about Rosella's dress. What's up with her wanting to give money to the party? Did she already know Connie was the candidate and she was purposely tracking him down? Or was this a surprise to her? I suppose this plot device is not supposed to make sense--they just have to come up with something to get them together again.

I agree too that Alex should take money from Nestor. His pride is getting the best of him. Nestor was offering it as a loan, so no reason not to take it.

I loved the scene of Mili and Luci doing salsa aerobics.

Really fun recap, Cathy! “Dagnabit”! That gave me my morning laugh.

Rosela/Rosario is really something. This is Connie’s Big Love? She doesn’t look like the person we’d expect that would have been his one exposure to a pure heart. And here she walks into the convent boobs first, in her jungle-print dress and do-me shoes. It looked like in the avances she didn’t care that the MS probably died some hours early due to her presence, all she could say is “mi hija.”

And since she must’ve thought she’d been totally kicked to the curb by Connie 20 years ago, you’d think when she heard the news that Connie had a daughter working as a servant in his house, she would think that he had been doing all the staff and that this was just another offspring of one of his romantic adventures. But no, she’s sure it’s mi hija.

As for wanting info on Connie and the political party, she could just Google him. Sheesh.

I wonder why they showed Luci getting makeup lessons. She may have had alcohol running in her veins back home, but by golly, she always was well groomed and had perfect makeup.

I loved when Connie was telling Damien to come on, move his ears, and when Connie walks off, he does.

Thanks Cathy, loved the recap.

I agree on Rosela's butt ugly dress and questioning what's up with her face. See, if she had stayed in contact with Braulio he could give her fashion advice and share his skin care secrets!

Ugh, not a fan of Rosario so far. Ugly dress, scary makeup, scarier long claws, pinchy expressions. She must have approached the party just because of Connie's involvement (which would be public knowledge; he was a diputado or something for years); why else would a woman who had been living in Italy for years suddenly be interested?

I thought Luci looked better with less makeup and casual clothes than she did after that makeover. Maggie, I agree, clothes and makeup were not what she needed to work on. They should have talked about finding hobbies and whatnot. And a new home far away from Constancio. Well, now I'm curious to watch the new show to see just what the deal is with this clinic, so I guess they succeeded there.

Why doesn't Sor Cachete give up the location of the ashes and get out of that prison? She can always have them arrested later.

I still think the stooges need to hire on Mili and Val. Those girls have sales skills, and could also work on outwitting Constancio.

They should just leave Karla's kid's father a mystery. Can you imagine the fun of the greetings and introductions? Hi, Grandpa...or Dad! Juan, I'd like you to meet my son...or brother. Etc. Now that could make for a good scandal.

Cathy, thanks for the recap.

I would just start with my dislkes. I think you guys are right. Why all the resentment at Nestor? He was not the one that keep the truth from you. The people that were to blame is Luciana, Constancio, and even Damien knew. NESTOR didn't know the truth too.

I think Alejandro has misplaced resentment and anger at Nestor when it should be direct at Constancio or Luciana.

I say grow up and take the money that Nestor is offering to you. At this rate and lack of business their company is having, they are going to closing their doors before it starts.

If there is only Constancio and a little of Damien at the Belmonte company, who is doing the work? Who is doing the buildings? I wonder if Constancio is using quality supplies and qualified workers to build these building and housing possibly NOT.

The other dislike I have is about Hugo. Mili did tell you that she was going to be late this day. I say - Make up your mind. When Mili comes to talk to you, you reject her or at angry at and sent her on her way. Now Hugo you want her to mind. Wake-Up, Hugo and Constancio, Mili is not at way. She even get knock down, but she gets up and come out fighting. She is a fighter.

I am wondering about the apartment thAT Roaario and Paolo are sharing. I wonder if these KIND of apt/room are for rent nightly or weekly in Mexico? We know that Rosario (I think she doesn't live permanently here in this apt and is only in Mexico on business.) I think or guess she will want to cause damage to Constancio's prez and the company.

I have a feeling that Don Federico told lots more lies to Rosario and had her shipped out of Mexico to Italy. Rosario probably thinks that Constancio knew all and had abandoned her. She probably have hurt feeling towards Luciana and even Mother Superior. Remember that the Mother lied to her to believing her baby daughter is died. To a mother, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO DID THE LYING AND WHY!! To me, Rosario has a right to be angry at Mother Superior, Constancio, Don Fedrico, and etc.
THEY KEEP HER DAUGHTER FROM HERE FOR OVER TWENTY ONE YEARS AND COUNTING. Other mothers would be even more brutal to the Mother.

I thought I would say that on by half of Rosario and her attitude at Mother Superior when she was dying. Mother Superior just told her that she lied and her daughter is alive. Mother Superior is confessing to clear her consciousness.

One more question: Why could Mother Superior tell earlier in the story? Don Federico has died for so long. Why prolong and keep the truth until the Mother is dying?

I thought Rosario might ended together with Constancio, but I don't think so now. They might end up being on friendly grounds, but I don't see it. Remember too Rosario has been on her own for all those year. She is independent and strong. I don't know if she and Constancio will last. Besides Constancio is still being an (SORRY?) asshole. No matter how good he looks one day he is bad the next. I bet that he will end up in that mansion by himself or with only Damien. They will grow old together picking on each other. This is the treatment that Constancio might get. We will see anyway.

Sorry, I might have went over board. Let's just say that I am enjoying the show and will miss it when it ends.

Genevieve from Flagstaff, AZ.

Well, we can't have Sor Cachete give up so easily. We need to have more funny scenes of Sor Macarena blundering around the kitchen and calling Padre Manuel wrong names.

I'm sorry, but is anyone else wondering why Constancio doesn't just kick Damien the fuck out already?

Rosario...ugh. In the earlier previews of her (right after giving birth) she looked pretty, except of course for eyebrows that could slice through steel. Pretty brown hair, peach skin, now she looks kinda like an Adam's family extra. Her hair is BLACK. And I'm sorry, if I'd just heard my ex was having my daughter work as a servant, I'd want to pay the party off to keep him out of it, not make him president again!

And Luciana just looks like a forty year old who forgot she's not a cheerleader. Her make up was better before. xD Does anyone else think her chin looks kinda saggy now? Just a thought.

<3

Constancio doesn't kick Damian out because he LOVES to mess with him. He doesn't play golf or anything; tormenting Damian is like his only hobby. Sometimes he branches out to tormenting other people, like Luci and Al, but I think he really has the most fun with Damian, mostly because Damian is playing the game too.

Thanks for the recap! I really enjoyed it!

It is apparent that Maribel Guardia has had TONS of hideous plastic surgery. I think that she actually might have been pretty once (I remember her from Tú y yo with Joan Sebastián years ago!). Now, she just looks weird, and her hair, make-up and clothes don't help. At least her breasts seem to be smaller; I think at one point they were so large, they were comical. It really depresses me to see how many actresses on Mexican TV have had implants.

Thanks for the recap Cathy =) I too suspect Candy's clinic is a shameless plug for "Tontas." Can you say spinoff children? LOL. I like your theory of Paolo and Braulio hooking up. I suspect Rosario/Rosela hired him because he reminded of her brother.

Quick add on Mili/Candy's talk. They had a friendly argument over their favorite soccer teams (Mili roots for Las Aguilas del America, and Candy roots for Las Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara - kind of like rooting for the Lakers and the Celtics back when they were the top teams) and then made up deciding they could both root for TRI (the national team when Mexico goes to international events, like the World Cup). Mili also said she wants to open a branch of Candy's place in the DF. Wonder if this means she'll make an appearance in "Tontas" when it starts?
