Pasión de Gavilanes, Fri., Aug. 22- Little rats in the basement, big rats upstairs
Not a lot happened on Friday: Grabiela is still locked up in basement; Abuelo is still locked up at the nuthouse; the gang at the Hacienda de los Reyes still think everything is fine at the Hacienda Elizondo and Juan wasn't on at all except for a flashback.
Grabiela is afraid of the rats in the cellar but Herzog and Rubinsky tell her to be more afraid of the rats upstairs.
Grabiela flashes back to when she first met Juan, Óscar and Franco. This is our only glimpse of Juan in the whole two hours. ¡Qué lástima!
Labels: gavilanes
Speaking of early episodes, in the DVD set, in the extras section, there is a "slapping montage" which looks like Juan slapped Libia. It happens so quick I'm not sure, but if this is true, Jean could you or somebody else who has seen the show from the beginning shed some light on this? I was kinda shocked because I didn't think Juan would hit a woman, except for Dinorah and the kidnapping scene. Was there any explanation as to why he slapped Libia? From what I could tell, in the chapters section of the DVD it looked like this scene was shown just after the slap, and I gather they did not even know Libia was pregnant yet? Were they just really upset that she hooked up with somebody, and why? And why would this warrant such a violent act? I just didn't think Juan would do that, especially since he seemed so close to and protective of Libia, and I thought he was against hitting a woman.
But you're right, not much happened on Friday's episode--it was rather boring! That's one where I wish I had recorded it and zipped through it later, rather than sitting through every scene and commercial.
Like the anonymous poster earlier, my Chicago area TV listing says PdG at 11 a.m. for one hour, and then Cuerpo at 2 p.m. for one hour. So there seems to be some discrepancy. We'll have to check to make sure.
Cindybin - Alas, Juan does indeed slap his baby sis in the first episode. In his defense, not only was she sleeping with a man twice her age, but he had given her money (he wasn't paying her for the sex, but simply giving her money because he figured she needed it) and our hero thought his sister was prostituting herself. He always saw himself as the parent of this siblings, and much of Latin America is of the opinion "spare the rod, spoil the child." Not saying I agree with this practice, just that it exists.
Susalynn, welcome to our little group =) This airs on Telemundo at 12:00 PM EST for two hours (though TV listings in various areas have conflicting times lately). This is down to about episode 160 or so, so we're in the home stretch. If you want to look at previous episodes on YouTube, they are listed in order (pdg 1.1, etc). There are no subtitles, but the quality is pretty decent.
I think I'm going to rewrite this novela and eliminate all the slapping, fighting, punching, drinking and spitting. I will play Norma (I hear they do wonders with makeup these days). Now I just need to get Mario to re-enact it with me...
