Cuidado con el Angel - Sept. 29, 2008 - beggars can't be choosers

(NOTE: Because of the jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, I was only able to see the first half of tonight's episode before I had to leave for evening services.)

EPISODE 6:
* In the back garden, Isabel shocks Cecilia (Ceci) with news that her daughter didn't die, and Isabel knows where she is.

* Dr. Sandoval meets Mayita inside - he goes into the study to talk with JM. They discuss Chuy - JM is enchanted by her.

* Padre Anselmo talks with Chuy at church - about her feelings for her mother who abandoned her.

* Ceci and Isabel are still in the garden - Ceci begs Isabel to tell her where her daughter is.

* Padre and Chuy start to discuss Chuy's dislike for men - Chuy explains why she hates men.

* Out on the street, Chuy hugs Cuate as Padre blesses her. Padre leaves. Amador comes over and starts to talk with Chuy - Chuy glares at him.

* Ceci is upset and still desperately begging Isabel. Isabel paces back and forth explaining why she kept the truth a secret from Ceci for so long. Isabel reveals that Ceci's long-lost daughter is with her. Ceci is so relieved and thanks the heavens above, finally she's found her daughter. Ceci begs Isabel to take her to her daughter.

* Amador talks with Chuy about what she and Padre discussed at church - about her mother. Chuy says for her, it's best that her mom stay dead. Amador blatantly changes the subject and starts to flirt with Chuy. Chuy isn't having any of it, and rejects his advances outright. She leaves with Cuate. Amador grumbles to himself (Chuy will be his).

* Ceci is desperate to meet her daughter, hug her and have her call her mama. Isabel sits down with Ceci and explains that Estefania -- Ceci repeats the name with a huge smile on her face -- Isabel explains that Estefania is part of her family, and calls Isabel "Tia". Ceci is desperate and anxious to meet her. Isabel continues to procrastinate - because Estefania doesn't know anything about Ceci, grew up with Isabel and her family. Ceci continues to beg and plead. Isabel cries that she doesn't want to lose Estefania - thinks of her as her own daughter. Ceci assures that won't happen. Isabel wonders about Patricio's reaction to the news.

* Chuy and Cuate meet lady in the market.

* Pat finds Isabel and Ceci in the garden. Pat interrupts the discussion/begging session.

* Lady and Chuy walk down the street - argue about Adrian kissing Chuy the other day. Chuy doesn't care for him in any way - Lady tries to get Chuy to change her mind about Adrian. Chuy cries about not wanting any boyfriend and runs away.

* Pat hugs Ceci - he notices her happy mood as he talks with Isabel. Pat leaves. Ceci and Isabel talk about Ceci needs to tell Pat the truth about Estefania. Ceci wants to meet Estefania today/tonight - Isabel convinces her to wait until tomorrow, to give Isabel time to tell Estefania. Isabel gives Ceci the address of where they will meet tomorrow. Ceci is excited.

* Padre and lady talk in church - lady is so happy, she received word from her daughter.

(Here's a brief recap of the rest of this episode by Ninak.)
Cecilia went to meet the fake daughter, and begged her forgiveness, which of course was given. She left early in the morning, telling Patricio she was going shopping, but at the end, she returns home and tells him she once had a daughter, and it's his. The episode ends there.

Also: JM goes to search out Marichuy in the barrio. She is no longer scared of his being a ghost. He gives her his card and tells her to come see him if she needs help or whatever.

I missed most of the episode thanks to King County Metro, so I can't fill in much detail. I did see that Estefania and Cecilia did meet, and Ceci was all emotional while Estefania sort of stood there like a mannequin. JM came to Mari's place to find her and they stared at each other all significantly.

So who is this Lorenzo person? Is that someone we've heard of before or is that new information?

Thanks for the recap!

I didn’t get that lady in the headscarf in the church at all – the one who was talking about her daughter. She talked about Marichuy too. Did anyone understand what all this was about? She wanted her (Mari?) to study… what?

Jody, you refer to Mari saying she didn’t trust any men after what Lorenzo did to her.. who is Lorenzo? I was thinking Mari couldn’t remember the face of her attacker and didn’t know who it was. Mari’s dialog is so fast and slangy, I’m having a lot of trouble following what she is saying. Can anyone help out on this Lorenzo thing?

Julia - looks like we posted the Lorenzo question at the same time!

Ummm...no one is answering. Can anyone help us out? Is anyone watching this show? Any lurkers, please feel free to join in!

I can't decide yet how much I like Juan Miguel. He doesn't seem too broken up over his wife's supposed death. Hasn't it only been a few days, or has more time lapsed? Is his interest in Marichuy still a professional desire to help her at this point, or is he actually hitting on her?

Maybe everybody is watching CNN, or observing the Jewish holiday?

I agree, neither JM or the little girl seem very devastated..

This is probably no help, but I don't recall hearing the name Lorenzo in that conversation. I thought it was all about her recurring nightmare and the fact that she can't tell who the guy is. My Spanish is not so good though, and I am not using subtitles, so I miss a lot.

As for JM, he just seems vacant to me most of the time. I am probably not the one to ask, though; these days I have trouble discerning the difference between CNN and SNL.

Seems to me that JM is busy thinking "I look bitchin when I stand just like this..." and isn't focused on anything else. I do like his scenes with the littel girl, though.

I'm busy today, and I didn't get to watch the second half either, so I have little to contribute. Who the heck is that church lady? And what's with curler lady sans curlers? She needs a show called "What Not to Hair."

I just watched the rest on YouTube, so without captions, this is what I gathered:

Cecilia went to meet the fake daughter, and begged her forgiveness, which of course was given. She left early in the morning, telling Patricio she was going shopping, but at the end, she returns home and tells him she once had a daughter, and it's his. The episode ends there.
Why would Ceci believe these con artists so easily, except for the fact that she really wants to believe, which is always part of what enables con artists to succeed. What connection could these people possibly have that would lead her to believe this was the real daughter?

Also: JM goes to search out Marichuy in the barrio. She is no longer scared of his being a ghost. He gives her his card and tells her to come see him if she needs help or whatever.

I agree, that hair is something awful. What's the point of going to the trouble of using curlers if you're always seen either in the curlers or with the curlers taken out with the hair still not styled? Her name is Casilda, and thus far she seems to play the role of Christian Church Lady Minus Much of the Actual Christianity...i.e., very pious in some ways, but very judgemental of other people, and unable to recognize the irony.

Maggie, I agree, JM is best with the little girl. Probably because he isn't trying so much to look sexy. Here's a hint to the actor: When you look all hot like that, you can just forget about how you look and focus on being the character. You don't need to pose.

Julia - I agree! The fellow playing Alex in Guapos was a real looker, but, though he wasn't perhaps the best actor, he gave it his all, didn't trade on his looks, and turned in a sympathetic performance, I thought.

Eugenio Siller was also a good singer and had some comic abilities. William Levy is a male model turned actor who seems to have no sense of humor. He displayed none in the other two shows I've seen him in.

Hence, why I like Jaime Camil and Eugenio Siller better than the much lauded Fernando Colunga.
