Doña Bárbara - Mon., Sept. 8 - La Reina del Arroz con Leche y dos huevos crudos
Lots of food flying through the air in last night's episode-
Marisela serves Luisana some rice pudding (arroz con leche) that she has made.
Luisana trips Marisela and the rice pudding ends up on Marisela. Luisana's dirty trick backfires when Santos goes to comfort Marisela and in a very sweet scene tries the pudding by picking the rice grains off her and telling her the story of the Rice Pudding Queen (La Reina del Arroz con Leche.)
The ranch hands bring Orestes back to Altamira and tell Santos that DB is going to kill him. DB decides to kill Orestes with rattlesnake venom and she doesn't just order some from the Internet. She catches and milks the rattlesnakes herself. Santos warns her that if Orestes dies, no matter how innocent it appears, he will know that she was responsible. Orestes wants Santos to represent him in his claim to ownership of El Miedo but Santos refuses. DB plots with Melquíades and Balbino Paiba to kill Orestes at the Feria de los Flores, the Flower Festival in Progresso.
Marisela gets back at Luisana for the rice pudding incident by throwing raw egg on her at breakfast.
Cecilia decides that she will just enjoy the sunset by the new schoolhouse and Melesio guesses she is waiting for Antonio.
And so it is. After getting rid of Federica, Antonia runs to Cecilia and kisses her. First, she resists but not for long.
Marisela is going to compete in the Queen of the Flowers beauty contest at the Fiesta. A la Pygmalion, Mauricio is going to make her into a lady before the contest. I think Mauricio is very clever and may be working against his cousin. He tried to divert Luisana's attention away from Marisela and direct it to DB because he sees that Luisana's real rival for Santos is Marisela.

I am really liking Mauricio. It was obvious from his talk with Pernalete that he wants to have fun with the pageant and pick a real winner, and he sort of already has ;) Hope Pernalete doesn't arrest him for it!
I think it was very sweet how most of the "terneras" want Marisela to win, since they never got to. They could be cold and jealous like Gervasia, but decided to take the high road and let someone worthy get a chance.
Orestes just gets dumber and dumber! Not only does he not run away at the imminent threat of death, but goes and pisses off his only defender!

Great shots. I totally LOVED Marisela's revenge against Luisana.
I'm trying to figure out how you kill someone with milked venom. Does it work if you swallow it in a tequilita? And there was something about Balbino standing very close to Orestes and Melquiades being a crack shot. Should prove interesting.
I never have liked Orestes, although I don't want DB to kill him. Santos took him in like an orphan and he immediately started trying to put moves on Marisela, trying to outwit the other vaqueros who were going to give her riding lessons. He seems much less concerned about the death of his father than the chance to get rich quick taking over El Miedo. Saying all that in the bar was beyond dumb, and he certainly revealed his true colors in that scene with Santos.
I'm wondering what plot the wicked Josefa is coming up with to seal the deal for Federica with Antonio. She said something to her last night about the fact that Antonio couldn't stand her and she was going to need drastic measures. I sure hope it isn't the old telenovela chestnut about the guy getting drunk and then the scheming witch turning up pregnant.
And I agree with you about Mauricio. I think he's another in a trend of gay best friend/good guys I've seen in quite a few telenovelas. I think he sees Luisana for what she is and that Santos is too good for her.

I'm not sure about the venom. DB was holding what looked like a thorn. I tried to get a pic of that but you couldn't tell what it was. Maybe BP is going to stick Orestes with a envenomed thorn while he is distracted by some gunplay from Melquíades. We'll see.
Yes, Josefa is smart, unlike Federica, so she is dangerous. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the baby thing. Tried and true but it would mean some man would have to have sex with Federica!

She might not even have to be pregnant. I've seen plots where the poor schnook wakes up with a terrific hangover next to the scheming witch. Witch says they did it. He doesn't remember a thing. Witch later says she's pregnant. Shotgun marriage. Then a faked miscarriage. I HOPE NOT IN THIS ONE!!!

It may have been my imagination, but I got the impression that Santos started imagining the visual of Marisela's little wardrobe malfunction. Hopefully he's not taking a page from the Poe/Lewis school of love for your underage relatives.
