Querida 9-10-08 - A kiss, a diss, and divorced bliss

We begin with the MTV video that leads to "the kiss" and then.... the let down. Lore stops herself and says this is an error, and this can’t happen, she’d better leave. Ern tries to convince her they did nothing wrong, it was merely a kiss, and he likes being with her, but she thinks she better go and she runs out. Ern thinks to himself how much he wants to give her his love. Lore doesn’t think she can trust him.

Al gives Val some expensive pills that he bought especially for Flor because the clinic doesn’t carry them. He believes they will help.

Lore is telling Rossy of the kiss and her lack of confidence in Ernie’s staying power. Rossy however thinks he’s the bomb and notes that Lore is a little hot about the kiss; she admits that’s true because she’s acknowledging Al is in the past. She rushes off to school.

Jacqui kisses Vasco’s butt and is thrilled he’s there instead of Horty. Vasco tells her to get him all the profit and loss stuff. Sara busts up Jac's parade by yelling at Vasco that she’s going to take some wine for an auction benefit that she’s attending in place of Horty and despite him noting they have losses and not wanting her to do so. Sara just walks all over him that she’s going to do this and that’s the end of it. RRrrrrr....

Jacqui complains to her new meat how those two are putting her in the middle of their hate fights but Icky is distracted. His divorce signing is today, plus he doesn’t like that the twenty something is in charge instead of him. Jacqui gets a call from her lawyer and hopes her divorce will be soon. Weird, what was the point of being married if it only lasted a week. Whatever.

So now Pau is on the phone giving advise for her business when Dario shows up. There are some niceties exchanged but the gist is, Pau marry me again. There is super bad editing here like this was supposed to be the real end of the episode and they cut away to her on the other side stopping the music crescendo mid cresc.. Essentially she says no, things are different, you had 15 years with me and we can’t just erase the errors and no way will us going to Thailand together like you want magically make everything ok. She thinks the money should be invested for Betti’s education or something, they aren't kids anymore. He pulls the old do it for the kid, but Pau very cooly dismisses that as not enough of a reason and she’s not sure she wants him back but she will think about it.

At the judicial proceeding Icky tells the judge he still wants to be married but Val definitely doesn’t. She yells at him for using the kids and reminds him she has proof of his infidelities. Finally he signs.

At the auction Al breaks up with Sara and she begs him not to. She wants to know what she did to make him hate her. She only loved him, blah blah blah. Sorry, I actually side with her, because why would you break up with someone (even her) at a benefit event? No class.

On the sunnier side of town Lore and Ern are at a park with the kids and they scream for a kiss so she relents but only on the cheek. Ern tells her he really likes her and she says how many times have you said that before, she doesn’t want to get in to it. She still doesn’t trust him. He swears it’s different this time.

The Sara /Al whining continues until he leaves, he says she’s strong and will be fine and they will talk later. Jacqui comes up saying some press want to talk to Sara, but she has to clean up her mascara first....oh and yell at Jacqui of course and swear she won’t lose Al.

Chalo is at the mansion, (why?) I think in the library reading the books. Barb comes in and they chat a little about the authors, bonding. He asks Barbi to explain the book.

A nurse gives Snorty therapy saying she’ll be up and around lickety split.

Barb confesses she’s read nothing. Chalo says he hasn’t either and repeated primary school. He mentions something about growing up in his small town of San Martin. This rings a bell for Barb and she thinks Sara is from there too. Chalo feigns that he didn’t know and brushes it off.

At Tori’s building, a claustrophobic husband is stuck in an elevator and Al blames Tori for something again, this?

The divorcee club is drinking wine AGAIN and chatting about Dario’s latest trick. Betti talks to her friend about Ivan not being around. Her friend says guys are like that, kiss and run, but Betti hasn’t kissed him. She dances to RBD with the little girl. Ma yells about the volume, and Ma's friend thinks maybe if she gets back with Dario then Rai will be free. That doesn’t go over well for the preying friend. Just then Val shows up confirming her divorce is final and they console and cheer her telling her it's ok to celebrate and cry.

Maru and Jaime are walking to the apt she intends to show him. He thanks her for helping him and again she says that's the best a friend can do.

Julian gets a new digital camera and takes cute poses of Rossy and remarks how sexy she is.

Jaime looks the apartment and the owner is a little eccentric, she mentions the bed sleeps two, and he says he has no partner, but she says his aura is orange, which means he’s looking for a partner. He takes the apt. And, he likes that it is close to Maru's house and the owner lady promises to read his cards, on the house of course.

Lore shows up with a lollipop for the little girl, and Ern has a soccer ball, and he is surprised Lore didn’t blow him off and showed up. She says she keeps her promises.

Sara yells at Jacqui some more and the organizer thanks her for her generosity. She cuts him off because she’s waiting for her beau.

Ern and Lore share quality time with the kids paying football.

The auction goes on. Al comes back, I don’t get this, I thought he left after breaking up with her, but now he’s back? She greets him and wants to show him off, that one day one of these might be his patient. He’s content with his poor people, but she wants him to aspire to more.

Ern tells Lore again how much he REALLY loves her. He leans in for another kiss and the kids chant again.

Now Al is yelling at Sara for belittling his life’s work. He calls her ambitious. She doesn’t want to argue now, he says he doesn’t want to continue with her. Could they have screwed up these segments out of order? I swear this should go before the other scene. Maybe Al got the call to save his Pa at the elevator fiasco and left and came back? I guess that must be it. Just odd.

Val has custody of the kids and Arty has to pay, they each discuss their situations over more wine. They tell Val about Dario’s proposal. At some point Betti walks through the kitchen and overhears them discussing this and she smiles hopefully.

Al blasts Tori for being immature. He goes into self pity mode and apologizes for causing so many problems and that he’ll give him back the money as soon as he can. Sara calls Al and he is not happy.

At the kitchen Lore pours tamarind sauce on the wrong thing. Maru helps her and notes her distractedness and that she and Rossy need to talk to each other later, work now.

Ern gets a message, surely from a former love, who is in London, but will come to see him when she gets back. I swear she says something about hearing about the in law. Could this be that this woman is actually married or was married to Ern or was it merely figurative... he said he was never married, right? Moni shows up with gifts for the kids who don’t really care, they want Lore. Come on, now what kid turns down a gift, even from someone they don’t like? Right.

Betti talks to Pa and tells what she heard. He begs her to help him turn her Ma around to marrying him again.

Zully is in a hissy fit because Omar doesn’t desire her. She pulls out all of her Oscar Meyers and rips up all her skinny pictures and swears off her worthless diet since he still doesn’t want her.

Speaking of Omar, he’s eating with Vasco.

While Zully is upset, Julian comes in and asks what her problem is. He notes she’s eating like a fiend. She misses Di and doesn’t understand why Sara doesn’t want to live her. Julian says Di, ok, but Sara is a loser, fuhgettaabouther. She cries.

Omar tells Vasco about, ok, say it with me, who predicted this? Erectile Dysfunction. How about that.

Rossy still thinks that Lore should give in to Ern and that he is being honest. It’s thunder storming again so of course she has to be thinking of Al. Rossy thinks she should use Ern to forget Al. Flashback to the first meeting at the taxi. He is thinking of her too.

Ern is worried about Ivan, Moni says he’s probably fine. He thinks he might find out something from Betti and wants to get the number from Lore. Moni doesn’t like the sound of that. Just then Ivan shows up. Moni says she has a gift for him. Ivan chides Ern he thought he was going out with the blond, and now he goes with everyone! He leaves. Ern tells Moni best to leave.

Al is muttering Lore’s name to the rain when Sara shows up desperate to convert him back to loving her again. He just tells her he was clear with her. She doesn’t let up so finally he has to scream he doesn’t love her because he hasn’t stopped loving Lorena and she is the love of his life.
Smack.

Between Monica and Sara, are we going to have TWO stalkers?

And why doesn't Sara try to seduce Ernesto? Maybe because she knows he's too smart for her?

Thanks for the recap. Sara is a majpr pill. Al spelled things out pretty clearly . Just what doesn't she understand about ''I don't want to be with you anymore. I still love Lorena.'' ????? I really wish he'd stay with Sara because I am liking the Ernie. However, about his womanizing...Has anyone ever met/dated/known a womanizer who changed his womanizing ways ????? Me...no. So, even though I like Chef Ernie, I doubt that he can be a one-woman hombre. Que lastima because he is goodlooking, sweet, and a good kisser. It looks like something might happen between Shallow and Barb...ewwww. And what is up with Dario's preoccupation with Thailand ?????? Why not a nice cruise or a trip to Hawaii or Alaska or France???? Why is Thailand always calling his name ???? Poor Zully. This mujer cannot catch a break. And poor Omar. I hope that he gets some good advice from Vasco who seems to be a sensitive and intelligent dude.

Thanks for the recap. Yes, the boardmembers here are pretty sharp, having predicted Omar's E.D. months ago. I don't know why Omar can't tell Zulema, though. I'm sure I would tell my wife right away. If you're close with someone, you don't hide stuff like that.

I still don't see why Sara is so obsessed with Alonslow, especially since he's never really pursued her in the least. Doesn't she realize that it takes two? And her hiring Chalo as the chauffeur is bound to backfire. Barbara doesn't know who he is, but lots of other people do, and in this tiny town of Mexico City, DF, they're bound to run into each other. I mean, what if Sara called the limo to pick up her and Alonslow? Sure, now they broke up, but puhhlease!

Thanks for the recap - I've just got a chance to read it.

Looks like our Lorena still has Alonslow in her heart, even though she is not admitting it! I don't know, if somebody like Ern was after me, like he is after Lore, I would forget his past completely and would just go for this really HAWT Chef( sorry Fer!)! Too bad, I'm not in the picture!

Susanlynn, the "Thailand dream" was the dream of both Paula and Dario since they were married long time ago and they never could realize this dream together. That's why Paula was so miserable when she found out of the Dario's honeymoon there. Now Dario tries to play Paula again, but ...

The black widow disappeared? There was no mentioning of her.

Sara is in love with Alonslow - this is the main reason why she is not getting to Ern. Remember, when Alonslow still was with Lore she imagined being with him while she was doing Chalo.

Monica is getting on my nerves! I don't know - it's a personage or an actress, but I just can't stand her.

I can't wait to see Snorty getting back to life, probably it will take some time, otherwise Sara will be out of the picture too early.

Edited some errors and added a few things. My typing is really just awful at the end of a long day. Oh well.

Thanks all!

I think Ernesto had decided he didn't want to marry, or have children. For whatever reason, he found lifetime commitment too hard. He told Lorena that there were women he "loved" but not for a lifetime. He has just told her she is the "mujer" of his "vida." And given the children and his vulnerability and loss of his only family, he might be ready to grow up and give up his womanizing ways...at least he would if his name were above the title.

I'm not happy that Alonslow has broken up with Sara; that might speed up his reconciliation with Lorena, which I am rooting against.

I was away when Sara pushed Hortensia down the stairs. Does Hortensia know that it was Sara?? If so, it will take a long time for her to recover so the Sara theme can go on ...and on and on and on. I think the nurse is going to turn out to be a good person. She seems to feel that tending the aged sick is her vocation in life, and although she is sickenly sweet --as are many people who work with the aged and infantilize them-- she seems sincere in trying to get her healed. After all, she doesn't know what a witch Hortensia is.

Thanks for the good recap, NJ Sue

She knows, NJ Sue! She didn't see that push coming, but she replayed the whole scene in her head while she was in the hospital. It was dark, and Sara was the only person there.

Hopefully she'll still remember it when she comes out of her coma!

The answering machine message was something like "I heard about your sister and your brother-in-law." That was the in-law reference.

I agree, there was some weird editing in this episode, not to mention Al has been breaking up with Sara for two days now. He's such a loser. Notice how even when he was with Lorena he hardly ever smiled. Maybe it was the botox or maybe he's just a super grump.

Oh yeah, ED, not a surprise.

Poor Bettina, she doesn't even know yet that Ivan's parents are dead, does she? She just thinks he's ignoring her.

Bad Wig Apartment Lady was funny. I wonder if she'll help get Maru and Jaime together or if that's all we get to see of her?

Thanks Kris, hilarious recap as always!

Hello to all =)

Thanks to Fuego for the fabu recap. Also thanks to Judy B for Tuesday's recap. I'm a little behind in comments =( Loved both titles.

From Tuesday's thread, someone asked if I knew what the green gunk Barb was drinking was. I'm not really sure, but I remember staying at a hotel once where they served "green juice." It was a mixture of a couple of standard juices like orange, plus it had some algae, some aloe, and possibly kiwi like someone suggested. It's not a typical Mexican drink that I'm aware of, but I like the theory someone suggested of her buying into another fad.

Fuego, I think you’re right about them somehow screwing up the order of the scenes at the benefit. The later scene where Al dumps Sara for dissing his work should have gone before her crying over him dumping her.

Al blames Tori for not paying the electricity for the building (he’s been working as administrator in Al’s stead), thus leaving the elevator without power. Not sure how the rest of the building managed to still have power but whatever. Al lends Tori the money so he can pay the bill and get the power back ASAP. Meanwhile, he’ll try to get the guy out.

I guess they had thrown us off the scent on Omar’s ED when he had his one night of passion with Zully. Maybe it comes and goes depending on how stressed he is? He was worried about money back then, and now he’s worried about the new job. It’s a possibility that's it's stressed induced, at least, that's what I hope as it would be a terrible blow if he had some nasty heart condition on top of everything else!

Julie, I agree with Eve that Sara might have genuine feelings (twisted, lascivious, and without encouragement from him, but genuine) for Al. She has no interest in Ernesto, and probably realizes there’s no way to weasel into that one with all he knows about her.

Eve, Amalia’s still around, but Tori’s not speaking to her ‘cause he found out about her sordid past and because she lied.

I've rented in an apartment building, and often individual renters have their own electrical bills. That's how the power would be out for hallway lights, elevator, etc. while residents would still have power.

Unless extensive (and expensive) rewiring is needed, it's to the owner's advantage not to have everyone on the same bill. (Or have them share a circuit.)

Is it really that simple and quick to get divorced in Mexico? I would think that with the strong influence of the church it would be like pulling teeth. Maybe someone should tell Sofia over at Fuego that if she goes to the D.F. she may be able to finally dump Feo!

Kris, terrific title and recap! Thanks!

“Ern thinks to himself how much he wants to give her his love. Lore doesn’t think she can trust him.” She can’t trust herself, either—she’s so afraid of getting hurt.

“Al gives Val some expensive pills that he bought especially for Flor because the clinic doesn’t carry them. He believes they will help.” I see trouble coming here. Either the pills are Bruno’s contraband, or they won’t help, or he’ll be broke from buying them and can’t bail Toribio out.

“Jacqui kisses Vasco’s butt and is thrilled he’s there instead of Horty.” LOL! She was pretty annoying, wasn’t she?

“Jacqui gets a call from her lawyer and hopes her divorce will be soon. Weird, what was the point of being married if it only lasted a week. Whatever.” LOL! Good point—maybe there’s some real point there, but maybe it’s just to show Dario how stupid he was.

“There is super bad editing here like this was supposed to be the real end of the episode and they cut away to her on the other side stopping the music crescendo mid cresc..” You are SO right! The editing was terrible on this episode in at least two places, this being one. Ugh!

“At the auction Al breaks up with Sara and she begs him not to. She wants to know what she did to make him hate her. She only loved him, blah blah blah. Sorry, I actually side with her, because why would you break up with someone (even her) at a benefit event? No class.” This scene was about 25 minutes out of sequence. It should have come after she got excited to see him at the auction. SUCH sloppy editing! I have never seen such a lousy job. There, now that’s off my chest. The second scene of Sara/Al whining is also out of sync.

“Chalo is at the mansion, (why?) I think in the library reading the books.” LOL! He’s the new chauffeur, replacing a perfectly good old chauffeur Sara fired, and he’s in the library because he has literally no sense of boundaries. I predict Barb has a new BFF. But, she’s on to him and Sara being from the same town, I think, and will use him or at least team up with him to bring Sara down. Whew, what fun that will be!

“A nurse gives Snorty therapy saying she’ll be up and around lickety split.” LOL! Nice translation, Amiga!

“Maru and Jaime are walking to the apt she intends to show him. He thanks her for helping him and again she says that's the best a friend can do.” This room was Lorena’s first, then Sara’s for a short time, then Chalo’s. They sure are getting max use out of that set.
“The auction goes on. Al comes back, I don’t get this, I thought he left after breaking up with her, but now he’s back?” See my comment above. It took me a little while to figure out it was the junk editing.

“Could they have screwed up these segments out of order? I swear this should go before the other scene.” YEP!!!!! (Have I made my annoyance and frustration plain enough, amigos?)

“Julian says Di, ok, but Sara is a loser, fuhgettaabouther.” LOL!

“Yes, the boardmembers here are pretty sharp, having predicted Omar's E.D. months ago.” Hombre, ROTFL!!! We’re Boardmembers, I like that!

Jeanne

Hey ribera joe! Haven't seen ya in a bit.

Yes, it's interesting how plots determine the ease with which a Mexican divorce can be had.

In reality it probably does vary as to whether the marriage was civil or church or both. There seems to be big focus on the difference between the two and perhaps possible to have one without the other? Anyone know if it's possible to be church wed without a civil registration in Mexico?

As far as I know in the US, except in some common law marriage states (only a few anymore)and pursuant to the proper requirements you can't be recognized as married except with a civil license, mostly due to the sep. of church and state, but then it gets weird too, because if the marriage occured outside the US there are full faith and credit issues, so we pretty much recognize any marriage as long as it was valid in it's original jurisdiction, no?

Anyway....it would be interesting to confirm more concretely the marriage/divorce qualifications in Mexico, por iglesia/por civil so if I get a chance I'll look into it.

Well, I found this so that answers one question:

"Only civil marriage is legally recognized in Mexico. A religious ceremony may be performed after presenting proof of a civil marriage, but this is without legal effect and does not replace the former."

PS, can you tell I've been a drop out lately? I missed Shallow being hired as chaffeur, good to know, and I forgot about Al and Tori being the "supers" of their building and so big light bulb goes off re the man in the elevator.... thanks folks for sharing.

Thanks, k! I really like the title too. I loved seeing Lore and Ern together in the park with the kids. Those kids are to die for. They are such a natural looking couple and "family". This hopefully will be a novela like Amar Otra Vez when the original novio does not get the girl back. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sara needed to get fixed up with Bruno/Bruto because he's the one always looking to get ahead and "hobnob" (codear) with important people. Maybe they'll have an affair once Sara gets over Al. Al needs to end up with Valeria or Moan-ica. Valeria seems too much like a big sister to him for them to become a couple, though.

One thing I noted was that after that kiss Lore admitted she was feeling something more powerful than what she had experienced with Slow. (No duh!!!!!) So, I still have hopes that Ernesto takes after his name and that Lore comes to realize this.

I doubt Sara is in love, rather in lust and she is possibly mentally fixating on Alonslow because he's somebody who has told her "No." Sara doesn't take "No" well. Also, she has to prove Lorena wrong.

Hmmm.. Cakes...maybe Soto is looking so spacey and glum because he knows that the other galan is going to get the girl at the end. I hope so !!! They are certainly turning Ernest Ernesto into Prince Charming , while Alonslo resembles a frog more and more. You kissed that frog , Lorena, and he's still a frog, but Ernesto is definitely acting like a prince [and like the true leading man of this show] . Come on Telenovela gods...break some rules here , and let Ernesto keep Lorena. They look so good together.

Madbess/susanlynn: Yowsa! Yowsa! El principe azul all wrapped up in a bow tie sans tux. Who IS this actor anyway? He's definitely my cup o' tea. His musculos and smile are sure giving EY a run for his dinero in my book........

I'm correcting myself. Jaime's new apt. isn't the boarding room that the other three had. It's much nicer in the daylight. Not that it matters. ;-)

Jeanne

Yes, Hombre. I rather like the sound of that-- "Boardmembers"

Julie,Is Hortensia in a coma? She looks pretty awake to me. Maybe she had some brain damage during the fall which has left her paralyzed and silent for the time being.

I am encouraged to hear that sometimes the original novio does not get the girl. Actually that was true in AMOR REAL too. Well we can keep on hoping.

Also part of Sara's motivation to hold on to Alonso must also be not to give Lorena the satisfaction of knowing he's thrown her over.
NJ Sue

Woops. Vegetative state, that's what Alonso said; not a coma.

People in a vegetative state can have a regular sleep-wake cycle and open their eyes when they're awake, even though they're not aware of anything. That's why Snorty's eyes are open.

It's possible that she could be regaining awareness very slowly. I don't know if there is any way to test that outside of a hospital, though. If the awareness is very faint, you need an fMRI to detect it. (I am not a neurologist, I'm just telling you what I found online.)

(I had to google to find out that consciousness requires both wakefulness and awareness. I don't know what's the distinction between wakefulness and awareness, but I bet it has something to do with coffee.)

Re - divorce in Mexico: I have no clue how long it takes, all I know is that my mother's first marriage lasted less than month, so divorce can't take that long.

Re - Ernesto: the actor is named Jorge Aravena, and did some stuff on Telemundo. In Sin Verguenza, he played a controlling and moody husband who did a total 180 and learned to be more understanding and an all-around sweetheart. In an episode of "Decisiones" (a series with a different storyline each episode) he played an actor who was a sex addict. So I guess in this one he's a combo of both ;)

Hi Ribera Joe, great to hear from you again!
