Doña Bárbara - Wed.-Fri. Oct. 8-10 - Finishing school and fences- lots going on in the llanos.

Santos tells Gervasia to come home but DB says that's machismo and machismo isn't civilized. Gervasia decides to stay at El Miedo.

Santos chews out his employees for uncivilized behavior and tells them not to carry weapons.

The next day Santos tells Antonio and Carmelito that they are going to Progresso to send a telegram and buy some stuff at the hardware store. He has decided to sell his house in the capital and build a fence between El Miedo and Altamira.

Twice Marisela hears people saying, "El que quiere besar, busca la boca," "He who loves shows it with a kiss." She decides to try that herself.

She offers a kiss to Santos but he is horrified.

The doctor wants Antonio to help him win Cecilia but Antonio tells him that Cecilia is sacred and to stay away from her.

Federica goes after the second of Santos' employees. She says, "Carmelito, sabes que yo sufre mucho de cosquillas?" "Carmelito, did you know I am very tickleish?" She shows him where and one things leads to three times with Federica astride him like a horse.

A furious Marisela tells Santos that it is time to take her father back to Altamira.

Josefa asks Federica about Pajarito and Carmelito. She says that she would take both, "Because one wins for size and the other for technique." ["Porque uno gana por tamaña, pero el otro gana por maña."]

Santos and Lorenzo decide to send Marisela to a finishing school. She is horrified and promptly decides to leave Altamira.

The girls at the Sandoval house see Marisela coming and know that something happened at Altamira.

Marisela tells them that her life is ruined.

DB shows up at Altamira with a lot money that she wants to lend to Santos so he doesn't have to sell his house in the capitol. He says that he can't be bought and that there is big wall between them.

Balbino Paiba tells DB that Santos is buying barbed wire ["alambre de púas"] and she figures out that Santos is going to build the fence he has talked about between Altamira and El Miedo.

In a very funny scene, Marisela says that she doesn't need to go to a finishing school. Maurice left a book on etiquette. After telling Lorenzo not to slurp his soup and Santos not to put his elbows on the table, she shows that she has a little more to learn. She says that the book tells about the proper behavior for all private and 'pubic' (public) events in the whole big udder ('ubre,' I'm not sure what Spanish word she meant.) ["eventos privados y púbicos en toda grand ubre."] Then she takes a giant bite of cake.
Josefa and Federica decide to add Maria Neives to their collection.

Santos is surprised to discover DB building the fence between their properties.

Thank you for your summaries. Marisela meant urbe when she said ubre. Urbe means city.

Good to have your recaps and photos back, Jean! La Doña completely surprised me. I thought she was buying up all the fence material to PREVENT Santos from building a fence between their properties. From what I saw of Santos' reaction, I think the property line was correct and she just did what he wanted all along.

Looks like Federica will soon be looking for the nearest chapter of SA (assume this is what they call the 12-step program for sex addicts!)

I'm definitely enjoying Genesis Rodriguez' portrayal of Marisela. She's adorable, and quite a good little actress. I can't say if the llanero accent is correctly pronounced, but she sure seems to be able to use it rapid fire! It will be really interesting to watch as she polishes herself up to win Santos.

Does anyone have any idea how many episodes there will be?

Thanks for the photos and summary, Jean! So many good scenes lately. I'm really enjoying Antonio and Cecilia. Cecilia es sagrado! Then Marisela is so captivating, even with her little tantrum over Santos.

Gervasia surprised me by her unrepentant attitude, even with her sister. She may have a disappointing future...

Hi Jean just wondered I surely must
have missed something, as I do not
see why ...
a) DB wants to prevent Santos from selling his city-house?wants to lend him +++ $$$
b)Santos declines stating he can`t be bought & there is a big wall between them...
Why would Santos settle inAltimara?
What about Marisela who is to study
in the city..
I just saw cap 46 & am fedup with
Santos. He really does not deserve
Marisela & needs a good lesson.
He has no will & no spine -rather
surprising for a very smart man.
Is witchcraft really at play here?
Tanxs ahead for your answer & recaps.
I believe I read there are 150 episodes. Can`t wait to get on with it..& see light, funny scenes.

What a pain Santos has become !
I thought he was able to stand up to DB...but then he changes his mind constantly. This is a drag !
I am tired of this attitude &
exasperated for Marisela who probably has to polish up & become a lawyer to be worthy of Santos.
(Not that she won`t with her ferocious will). GR is really an
adorable, talented actress who has
captured her caracter very well :
a cat.. who becomes a caline-panther around Santos..IF she does not give up..cause I almost have!

I really have the impression of going full circle with this DB-SL
thing & telenovela. Are we ever going to get out of it ? I prefer even amusing scenes with Frederica.
- Does not right rule over evil ?
- Does not mind rule over body ?
Are we close to the book version
or going astray..like a real soap
opera ? Can`t stand all those miriad-coloured burning candles that surround DB. She must spend tons of pesos over them..a real
firehazard if you ask me ! I prefer
fresh, real roses even if they sting..just like piquante Marisela.
She really is the reason I continue
to watch this TVnovela- pure curiosity.

Santos is a drag, but everything else is good. The main story has stagnated a bit, but the other storylines are interesting and unpredictable.

Anonymous, would love it if you used a name when posting. Not sure if the last comments were by the same person or different ones.

La Doña's motivations are not always clear and often ambiguous. Yes, she was interested when Pernalete gave her Santos correspondence about selling the house in the city. I originally had thought she wanted to stop him building the fence by buying up all the barbed wire. But she built it herself. I now think it's all about control. DB does not feel quite self-confident enough to snag Santos with only her charm and personality! She wants him to be endebted to her to help seal the deal.

And now, from last night's episode, she is trying and succeeding to make him jealous.

Santos decided to settle in Altamira because in his bones he's really a man of los llanos. He decides this in Chapter 5 of the book in a wonderfully symbolic way. If you recall the first episode, Santos' father, José Luzardo, in a rage, threw a lance into the wall of his study. In the book that room is the sala. When Santos' returns to Altamira on his first night there, he gets the keys from Antonio and opens the door to the room, locked for 13 years since his father died there. He goes inside, smells the stale, unused room, crosses to the wall and pulls the lance out of the wall. At that point he thinks to himself that he's not going to sell Altamira. And he then asks Antonio the next day to buy what's needed to repair the house. The house is in much worse shape and much more humble than is portrayed in the novela.

Muchas Gracias Novelera for your
precious explanations ..Bueno, we
will need much patience. I am looking forward to other episodes to see how our gorgious feline-Marisela will seduce Santos-by her brain, her charm, her womanhood or by purely making him jealous to the bone...in addition by then to being an educated & cerebral challenge for Santos.
