Cuidado: Friday 10/31/08- "It's Halloween-- Surprise, Onelia's a Witch, but Viviana's Costume of Sunglasses isn't Effective!"

In the hospital, Padre Anselmo urges Juan Miguel to tell Marichuy the truth. JM hesitates and PA tells him that Marichuy needs to know, the sooner the better. PA final words are that he will not let Marichuy marry if she is being deceived. He leaves and runs into MC in the hospital corridor. He tells her that JM’s got something he wants to tell her, so she best go in and see him.

Viviana makes a move on Gustavo, who resists at first, but finally succumbs to her “charms” and they end up in a passionate kiss. They are interrupted by Gabriel. Viv takes this as her leave and Gabriel shakes his head in disgust. He scolds Gustavo, telling him that Leticia doesn’t deserve this and he needs to think of his wife and his children. Gustavo tells him that it was a moment of weakness. Gabriel says that in order to prevent this from happening, he needs to kick Viviana out of the house or else she’s going to continue to pursue him.

Marichuy comes into the hospital room and asks Juan Miguel what it is he needs to tell her. JM says he’s been thinking and they should get married right away. All they need to do is get their documents in place and they can have their civil service and then their church wedding. MC is surprised that JM wants a church wedding. He tells her that he wants to see her in a white wedding dress, veil and flowers. The plan is that they will be getting married the day after tomorrow.

Adrian tells Cande that Marichuy is in love with JM and they will be getting married. Cande says that can’t be. Adrian suggests that perhaps there is a lot about MC that she’s keeping from Cande.

Isabella goes to see Patricio. She wants him to help Stefania. She informs the judge that MC and JM are going to get married. Isa is upset because she feels that MC is a delinquent. She urges Pat to help the situation and she suggests that he does something to “set up” Marichuy. Pat can’t agree to this, he claims that he is too strong in his convictions to bend the rules. This doesn’t make Isa happy.

JM urges MC to keep their wedding plans a secret, especially from Padre Anselmo. MC questions this and JM says it is because he wants to tell PA.

Isa lets Stef know that she had no success in getting Pat to help them out. The clown-faced Gestapo woman is in on this conversation (I think she’s Pat’s assistant, but I could be wrong). Stef is upset that her “father” won’t help her out.

Mayita goes to her magical spot and has a conversation with her Abuela Marianita. AM tells Maya to ignore all the terrible things Onelia is telling her about Marichuy. AM tells Maya that MC is her friend.

The next day Ed and JM are hanging out together. JM lets Ed know that he and MC will be married the next day. Ed asks if Juan Miguel has told MC that he’s the man from her nightmares. JM says no. Ed accuses him of lying to MC. JM says he’s not lying, he’s just holding off telling her the dark truth. Ed tells him that is basically lying by omission. JM says he will tell her, but he needs to get himself in a better position and then he intends to fight for her.

Cande comes to the castle to visit MC. MC tells her that she and JM will be getting married. Cande tells her that’s old news, she’s already heard the gossip from Adrian. Balbina brings Cuate outside and Cande and MC have a lighthearted discussion about Malvina/Balbina’s name.

Rocio goes for a motorcycle ride with Vicente.

Marichuy comes inside and has a run in with Onelia. MC tells the witch that she and JM will be getting married. Onelia wants to know when, but MC avoids revealing all the details of their plans and tells Onelia that if she wants to know she’s going to have to check with JM for the exact date.

MC calls JM, who is at work, and asks if Cande can come live with them once they are married. JM agrees, but then has to cut the conversation short because Onelia has come to his office. She rants at him for his plans to marry MC and then she tells him that if he follows through with the wedding, then he’ll lose Maya. JM challenges this and Onelia says she’ll take the girl away from her father because there is no way she’s going to have her daughter’s daughter be reared by a delinquent. JM says there is no way that Onelia will take Maya away from him. Onelia leaves and her parting words are “this marriage will cost you your daughter.”

Rocio and Vicente are smooching on the motorcycle and they end up crashing---hitting a tree.

Back at the castle, Marichuy tries to have some fun with Maya and her balloons. MC ends up popping one and Maya lets into her. She’s the reason her father got hurt and no one at the house even likes Marichuy, so why doesn’t she just leave. Maya runs off and MC looks hurt.

Juan Miguel flashes back to his conversations with Eduardo and Onelia.

Maya runs to her magic place. Abuela Marianita scolds her for how she talked to MC. Maya asks for forgiveness and AM reminds her again to not believe the terrible things that Onelia has been telling her.

JM goes to see Padre Anselmo and confesses that he and MC will be getting married the next day. He lets the padre know he hasn’t told MC, but then he explains his reasons why. He wants to help MC get over her trauma before he confesses that an act of drunken stupidness on his part has been the cause of MC’s nightmares. He tells the priest that he will tell her, for sure, but he wants to help her overcome her fear before doing this. Padre Anselmo agrees to let JM tell MC on his timetable.

MC gets a call from the hospital informing the family that Vicente and Rocio were in a car accident and in grave danger. MC is upset and tells Balbina what’s happened. Onelia butts in and tells Balbina to return to the kitchen. She then turns her venom onto MC and blames her for the accident, since she’s the one who introduced Rocio to Vicente.

Becky and Elsa talk to Beatriz and tell her that Amador is not worth any more suffering. Beatriz seems to finally be listening to their words of wisdom.

MC calls JM and tells him about Rocio’s accident. JM heads to the hospital.

Onelia goes over to Pat’s. She tells Stef about Rocio’s accident and how she’s going to take Maya away from JM if he marries MC. Again, the clown-faced woman is part of the conversation. Onelia goes to talk to Pat and Cece enters the room and asks Stef why Onelia is visiting. Stef tells her that Onelia wants help in finding a lawyer, mentioning nothing about Maya.

Viv thinks about Gustavo and how she’s going to succeed in seducing him.

Eduardo joins JM at the hospital. They talk to Vicente’s parents (who are played by the cello-playing aunt and Ivan, Eva’s henchmen, both from Amar Sin Limites). They are distraught about their son’s accident and the mother claims she never wanted him to have that motorcycle in the first place.

Pat tells Onelia that it is a pretty serious thing to try and separate a father from his daughter. She pleads her case by once again going on about the terrible influence that MC, the crook and delinquent, will have on her granddaughter. Pat gives her a name of a lawyer and agrees that if it falls into his jurisdiction, he’ll help.

Elsa and Nelson go to the theatre and tell Becky and Amador that Vicente’s been in an accident.

Viv is back in town and now stalking outside the castle. Maya is out walking with one of the maids and she spots her mother in the red jeep, even the huge sunglasses aren't able to disguise Viv.

JM returns home and MC tells him that Rocio’s accident was all her fault. He tells her that’s nonsense and Onelia lurks up in the balcony watching as the couple kisses. They talk about their wedding and decide to move the date back to Saturday. Onelia can’t stand to hear this and goes down to threaten JM some more, she tells him that he’s going to have to choose between MC and his daughter because she’s hired a lawyer and will see that her daughter won’t be replaced by a lowlife such as Marichuy. JM stands his ground and says there is no way he’s going to let Onelia take Maya away. Onelia says we’ll see and stomps off upstairs. MC questions if it is a good idea that they should be getting married. JM consoles MC and then Maya comes running inside to tell her father she’s just seen her mother outside the house. She’s alive. Clownface is the Velarde's ama de llaves or something like that.

Cathy: Thanks for the recap. I guess we have to conclude that Gustavo gave Vivi the old heave ho. She sure got back to the DF fast.

What a disguise - sunglasses and a red Jeep. No one would recognize her wearing a red Jeep.

The name of the ama de llaves is Martirio.

Martirio reminds me of Braulio's dummy from Guapos.

I really don't understand why JM takes all this nonsense from Onelia. Like she can really take his daughter away just because she doesn't like the new stepmother. Well, in telenovelaland there's probably some reason why that's possible. But really, you wouldn't think she'd want this going to court because he could certainly drum up a few character witnesses to tell the judge how awful Onelia is.

How did Viv get back to Mexico so fast? That's amazing. What's she doing, just trying to get in the house to get more valuables to sell?

Thanks for the recap, Cathy.

But really, you wouldn't think she'd want this going to court because he could certainly drum up a few character witnesses to tell the judge how awful Onelia is.

It's his character's fatal flaw - he's decent. Which under normal circumstances is commendable, but is a handicap if you're surrounded by a coven of witches.

What's she doing, just trying to get in the house to get more valuables to sell?

Hole in one.

I don't think JM would trash Onelia under general circumstances, but he'd do whatever he had to do to keep his daughter. Onelia should watch her step.

I hope neither Rocio nor Vicente ends up in a coma or with amnesia from the accident.

Thank you for your recap, Cathy.

Onelia might not just be making empty threats, as JudgePat give her the lawyer recommendation and even promised to be helpful to her if the case showed up in his jurisdiction. I don't see how we are supposed to swallow that, even in novelaland. He'd be guilty of major judicial misconduct if he did not recuse himself from a case like that due to conflict of interest. He loathes JM now and anyway shouldn't hear a case where he personally knows any of the principals. As for JM, there is a limit to what he should put up with from Onelia, even as a good guy. Did he really expecct her to co-exist with Mari in the same household? Just find her a nice condo, and get rid of her.

I've never see a household where the housekeeper is allowed to have a say in the private affairs of the family. Martirio doesn't even to try to be cool when she's eavesdropping.

Pasofino, that was so funny about Viv's "disguise". "No one would recognize her wearing a red Jeep". Priceless.

Still, I can't believe she's given up on Gustavo or her poison plan yet. I doubt they'd have brought all those folks in as a side story for such a short time. Maybe she's given Gus time to build up a fever missing her.

Cathy, Thanks for the terrific recap. So much happened in this episode and you captured it all for us so well. Lots of nervous making and sad events. I really like Sherilyn in a role where she has a brain as wise little sister Rocio, so I hope she doesn't die. Marichuy needs all the supporters she can get as the plot sickens.

Wasn't the Spain subplot concluded with abrupt, almost non-existent transition? And, the wicked Viviana returns to replenish her bank funds! It might be fun to see what kind of devilish stirring she adds. At least Onelia will have to try to rob and plunder with her. Poor Mayita, she is in for a tumultuous future.

The clownface does seem to be the head housekeeper but her instant betrayal of her employers is hard to believe. She is treated well and with trust so why did she jump into the grifters schemes against them so quickly.

Clownface, Martirio, (Renata Flores ) is such a good comedic actress. She played a hilarious secretary who was always trying to seduce the men executives and was loca in Viven Los Niños which along with Alborada were my first Mexican telenovelas.

Thanks for the recap Cathy.

I was really surprised at how serious Abuela Linda (?) was about Mayita being nice to Mari and not listening to evil Onelia. Abuela got very angry with Mayita for the latter's behavior.

I also think Onelia needed to be out of that house for a while. Though JM is a nice guy, he knows how awful Onelia to his daughter. If he can't be mean to her for himself, he should rise to the occasion for his daughter. O's wickedness also makes the "I'll take your daughter" ploy completely laughable if this weren't a novela.

Thank you for the recap, Cathy! Much appreciated!

I agree Viv sure got back fast. Right before that the brother is telling Lety’s husband that he better throw Viv out, so are we to assume that he did just that? In this novela, nothing is subtle, all plot points are indicated with big flashing neon arrows, so how did this just zip by?

I was wondering if the whole Balbina/Malvina name conversation between Cande and Mari was because viewers were actually confused (like we were) as to her actual name.

I’m wondering too about the fantasy Granny. I had always thought she was a figment of Mayita’s imagination, but here she is being quite sure Mari didn’t shoot JM, and telling Mayita off for being mean to Mari.

Speaking of mean, the evil in this show is just relenting. I’m glad when Cande comes on screen, because we do get a tiny bit of comic relief with her.

I think Viv left Spain on her own to give Gustavo a chance to miss her. It was sort of hinted at when she was thinking to herself how to seal the deal.

Also, I think Abuela Mariana is in Mayita's imagination, but acts as sort of her conscience. She always says what Mayita wants to believe or knows is the right thing. Mayita is a smart girl, but being around Onelia all the time confuses her.

Does Martirio know that Stef is not really Pat and Ceci's daughter? I thought she just was in on their anti-Marichuy campaign, but didn't know the whole story behind it.

Thanks! Cathy for the recap. I need to read about Friday's episode because I didn't watch it.

I am going to try and record tonight's and tomorrow's night because I will be helping out with the election and don't know when I will return both nights.

VOTE! Please.

Poor Marichuy! Everything is about change for her. She getting married, Vivana's alive and is coming home soon, and finally will find out that the man she trusted is the one who attacked her. Like I said, poor Marichuy. No wonder she is going to leave in the near future.

Did any of you heard the names of Vicente's parents? I want to know what their first names' are. Thanks.

Genevieve

I came in a bit late on this novela so I'm hoping for a little help....if Stef is not really Pat & Cece's daughter but they think she is their daughter, then who do Pat & Cece think Isabella is? I thought Isabella was Stef's aunt but then wouldn't Pat & Cece already have known her since they would be one of their sisters or sister-in-laws?
As always...thanks everyone!

TM, Isabela is Stef's aunt via the "adoptive" (that is, REAL) parents. She and Ceci were friends way back when, around the time the baby was born or before, but had not seen each other for many years. After she saw Ceci's picture in the newspaper and realized she was now married to a wealthy man, Isabela got in touch with her again, and Ceci told her about having given the baby to the priest and not knowing where she was now, and that was when Isa decided to pretend she had arranged for her sister to adopt the baby.

Also, that's why Isa is trying so hard to keep Ceci and Padre Anselmo from speaking to each other directly; if they met and talked they would probably talk about the baby and the padre would realize that Ceci's baby was Marichuy.

Thanks, Julia! That clears things up! They are so sneaky!

Thanks Cathy! It would be nice if Patricio would get a clue about Isa from her suggestion to set up Marichuy, but I'm sure he won't. His "convictions" apparently don't include avoiding conflicts of interest in order to help Onelia, as J.J. pointed out. Apparently his extreme dislike of Marichuy and now JM outweigh those particular ethical concerns! The eventual fall from his lofty perch is just getting longer and longer.

Cheryl - I don't think Martirio knows that Isa and Steph are frauds. As Julia mentioned, Martirio was in on the plot to make Mari's life miserable but to my knowledge she has no clue about the two witches. Remember Martirio is supportive of Pat's decision to cut off JM while the two vipers continue to try to get JM back.

I'm interested to see if Viv just comes to get more money and leaves for Spain again or stays and makes everyone's life miserable.

ITA with you Rhonda - Pat's digging such a huge hole for himself he's got to be knocking at the door of Hades itself.

If Viv had a freaking clue she would just divorce JM, take him for a huge stack of money (you know he wouldn't fight it because he's too nice and martyred) and get on with living her new skankster life with loads of cash and without having to hide.

Patricio has got to be the worst judge ever. None of the local bar associations would give him an excellent rating, I'm sure (I spent a long time last night reading up to make informed picks in about a million local and state judge races. Apparently some people really pay attention to everything judges do). He thinks he's so smart and high-class, but he just jumps to conclusions without proof and won't even let anyone finish talking. My grandfather was a judge, and while he was very opinionated on a lot of things, he would never have interrupted someone and not let them argue their case.

Thanks Karen and Julia for all the enlightening details which I missed while in Spain and I didn't even run into Viviana there. I was wondering why Ceci felt so comfortable with Isabel who is so pushy and bossy. Now it makes more sense.

And Pasofino, thanks for giving us the perfect image for Viviana: disguised wearing a red jeep and sunglasses.

Gestapo the Clown. That she is indeed, looking like the Joker but without a mask.

Gustavo = Loser. Maybe he, AmaLoser, and Adrian can start a club.

Would you think Isab!th suggesting setting Chuy up would dislodge the corn cob up Pat's butt long enough for him to realize, "Mmm, has this heifer ever set anyone else up, then??" Nah. Not even a blip.

Why does everyone always have to declare they're getting married tomorrow or the day after, practically?

Ah. So Abue Mariana seems to be little Mayita's deep subconscious, the one that pokes us when we consciously act out. We all have them (though they're not all good like Abue). Believable.

Good grief, Vicente. We knew you were irresponsible when you tried to teach Rocio how to smoke. Now this--you not caring to ride your moto with any semblance of common sense? *sigh*

Okay, so what were Mayita and a maid doing walking outside the compound, along a very busy roadway? Huh? (Contrived.)

Onery, I dub thee Head Flying Monkey of this novela. You're honored, I'm sure.

Thanks for the recap, Cathy!
