Cuidado con el Angel, November 26, 2008

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Sorry for the late posting but I had so much to do before the big day that I did not have the time to watch and post. Many apologizes.

Okay on with the show...

Ceci is at the orphanage and finally meets with Padre Anselmo.

Marichuy finally admits to Cande that she is with child. Cande is over joyed.

Padre Anselmo finally recongizes Ceci and wishes to speak with her in private.

Cande wants to know how long Marichuy has known and why she did not tell her. Marichuy says for many reasons including the show that she is in. Cande thinks that she can no longer work on the show, but Marichuy says that Amador can probably write it in. (i think that is what she said)

Ceci says that some nice people took care of her and when she was well and came to look for him he was gone. She feels bad for leaving her daughter but we get from Padre that she was so ill to the point of death. Ceci tells Padre that finally god gave back her daughter to her. Padre asks who her daughter is. Why it's Estephania. Padre looks muy impactado.

Marichuy confesses that she does not think that she wants to get a divorce. Why asks Cande. She says that the doctor told her that now that she is pregnant, she should not get a divorce or separate from her husband. And she did not want to tell Cande about her preganancy because she just got out of the hospital. She has to now think about the baby that is growing inside of her.

Ceci tells Padre about meeting her daughter and how happy she is that Estephania is in her life. Padre asks how she found her. Ceci tells him that her friend Isa took her daughter and raised her. Ceci asks her if he has met Estephania. He says that he has, but that she is not Ceci's daughter. Ceci muy impactada.

Back to Marichuy. She is going to be a mother. Cande wants to know if she has told JM.

Padre tells Ceci that she was lied to and her real daughter is another.

Amador visits with Marichuy and asks her what happened with her and JM when they left. Amador gets on to her for still laudering clothes. He brings by a script for her.

JM is talking with Mayita and asks her what she is doing. Mayita is looking at the paper and shows JM the photos. She wants to know why Marichuy is not living with them. He says that she cannot right now. He remembers the fight from last night and the kiss.

Marichuy looks at the script and it's about Romeo and Juliet. He tells her about the story.

Back at the orphanage Ceci gets upset and begs him to finish telling her. Padre starts to refuse since this is such a shock to her it is best to leave it for another time. She continues to beg for him to tell her and he informs her that it is Maria de Jesus.

Adrian goes to visit with Marichuy and brings her candy. He asks her how things are going and she tells him that she will have to go and speak with JM. Why asks Adrian when you told me that he hates you. Well he does because he thinks that I testified against him, but I did not. Why do you care if he hates you? They talk some more and Adrian tells her that if she wants to go back with JM to call him.

Estephania and JM are having lunch and she asks him if he is going to get back with Marichuy. No he says. Well I will help you forget responds Estephania.

Ceci tells Padre that finally she understands everything. How they (Isa and Estephania) caused so many problems to get Marichuy out of the house. Padre tells her that Marichuy told her that they invented it all.

Marichuy is at the church crying and praying.

Padre tells her of a couple of things that Isa told him and that now Marichuy needs to be in her home and have her love since they are her real parents. Ceci tells him that she has loved Marichuy since she first met her.

Abuela asks Mayita about the photo of JM and Marichuy. Then begins to tell her a story about a dog.

Ceci tells Padre that Patricio thinks that Estephania is his daugther and has taken it upon himself to eduate her. She also goes on to say that Patricio cannot stand Marichuy and has called her horrible names and has wanted to put her in jail. Ceci blames herself for abandoning her. Padre then tells her that Marichuy has really never been happy, but that Ceci can give her that. Ceci tells Padre that she will go and find Marichuy and they will go off somewhere and talk.

Back at Cande's it the next day and Marichuy asks her how she slept. Cande confesses not very well because of the things that Marichuy told her the day before. What are you worried about asks Marichuy. Cande says telling JM about the baby and that she thinks Marichuy should not tell him because he may take the baby away from her.

Estephania confronts Israel and asks him why he told JM that she cares for Israel and not him. Isreal says because you do. Estephania tells Israel that she denied everything and now you look like a liar. He reminds her of there kisses and she yells at him that she needs a man with money.
Israel recalls his conversation with JM.

Marichuy tells Cande that he will not take the baby away from her. Cande asks how will this child be raised? Being pulled into two different directions. How can you forgive JM for all the things that he has done to you?

Isa asks Estephania why Israel and her were arguing. Estephania tells her that Israel told JM that she was in love with him. Isa is outraged and asks are you in love with the chauffer.

Marichuy tells Cande that she wants to get back with JM and raise the baby together. Cande cries. Marichuy makes her promise not to tell anyone about the pregnancy. Cande tells her to hurry up because it is a hard secret to hold.

Isa yells at Estephania that she will not permit her to fall for Israel. That her plans will not go down the toilet. Estephania tells Isa not to forget that she is only the aunt and she is the daugther.

JM is in his office remembering the fight again from last night. He calls his attorney and tells him to hurry up with the divorce.

Tomorrow: Ceci confronts Isa and Estephania with the truth.

I got waaaay behind on these so thanks to Gloria, Maggie, Cathy, Jody, and Julia. Yes, Marichuy said Amador told her he can write her a pregnant role if she wants.

Some catch-up from my part, hope some of these are still relevant and feel free to scroll through the parts that are boring to you:

On Nov 19, when Mari thought bubbles that she’s all alone, then remembers her kid, I screamed at the TV “you’re not alone, organ grinder guy is like 5 feet away!” Ok, probably to late for anyone to remember, but I just needed to get that one out there ;)

"Asi que eso era" = "So that’s what it was!" Re: the scene when JM watched Mari on TV and then remembered when he saw Mari w/Amadork.

NinaK – I’d say Amador is less Henry Higgins and more Ike Turner to Marichuy’s career. Sure, he’s polishing her and nurturing her now, but he’s already telling her to sign her checks to him and acting as her press rep. He probably figures forcing her to sleep with him and sign him as her manager are just down the road.

Oh, by the by, the Spanish adaptations of My Fair Lady call it “Mi Bella Dama.” Bella = Beautiful or Fair.

Susalynn, dunno if you’re following up on this, but the actress playing Martirio (Pat and Ceci’s maid) is different from the actress who played Petra (Luisito’s nanny from hell) in Fuego. Martirio is played by Renata Robles, not sure who played Petra, but she was different. Oh, and yes, Lety (Viv’s friend) played Rita in Pasion.

Julia – re: tocho morocho, I’ve only heard it as slang for “todo” (everything), and perhaps she was telling Amadork she could do “a little of everything,” but I can’t remember for sure. Oh, also I think someone once asked about her reference to “Lorenzo.” In addition to being a name, it is slang for “loco” (crazy).

“Regaliz” is slang for “regular” (spelled the same in both). Many, many years ago people would say “regulez y madaleno” to mean regular. In those days, Regulo and Madaleno were the hosts of a variety show called “El Club del Hogar.” Both are long dead and so is the show, making that one too dated for folks to get it. I guess “regaliz” is the newer hipper replacement. I remember telling some folks we had to make like Ginger Rogers and go backwards and they had no idea what I was talking about. In fairness, it’s not that I was much older than the rest of the crew (just a little), but none of them watched old movies or did ballroom dancing, so the reference was lost on them. Guess some phrases just need freshening up every so often.

Maite Perroni sings with a band called RBD. I think her debut was in the TN that brought the band together (kinda like the Monkees and Spinal Tap). It was called “Rebelde” and was aimed at teenagers.

RE: grandma Mariana – yes, she is way too old to have been JM’s mom, but her face isn’t terribly wrinkled, so maybe we’re supposed to think her hair is white ‘cause she’s an angel. Either that or they just really like old grandmothers and didn’t realize she could be Mayita’s great grandmother and that would still work. As to whether she’s an angel or a figment of Mayita’s imagination will probably never be truly revealed. They have used a similar plot device in a number of children’s TNs with anything from a dead mom to a guardian angel (played by a very handsome teenage boy, just saying...) and mom’s old nanny. Sometimes you think you get it and then you’re not so sure.

Thanks so much for the recap Gloria and your cultural knowledge Margarita. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the well-written recap (under Thanksgiving duress!) and for all the helpful dicho and cultural information, Margarita. With you, I feel like we all have our very own Spanish tutor.

Muchas gracias to one and all.

Gloria: Thanks for the recap. And to Margarita for all the extra information. I keep hearing "luego, luego." What does this mean?

thank you gloria for the recap. you deserve extra applause for posting it during the holiday madness.

thank you margarita for the extra cultural and language information. very interesting.

Jody :)

Thank you Gloria! You pulled a hard recapping shift with such a busy holiday day!

Margarita – Thank you SO MUCH for all your input. I actually do recall most of the questions you were addressing. I agree with JudyB – you are a wonderful source of information.

Now, what I didn’t recall was a scene with Israel telling JM that Stef loved him. I watch these shows on tape around midnight, so I might have snoozed off during that one. Has that scene appeared earlier?

I’m pretty amazed that Stef and Isa are being unmasked so early in the show. With Onelia temporarily out of the picture, if we lose these two we will have run out of forces of evil (except Amador). Of course, Viv is about to reappear..

Hi Gloria, coming out of my Thanksgiving coma to add my thanks for your above-and-beyond-the-call-of duty recap. Hope you and all the folks here had a great day.

Maggie, I thought I was the only one who missed the scene with Israel talking to Juanmi about Stef. It would be weird editing if they skipped it. But anyway, why would Juanmi care who Stef likes?

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of Onelia and I can't wait to see how she'll react to Stef when she learns she has no pedigree.

Could Patricio really continue his anti-Mari campaign when he finds out she is his real daughter? And wouldn't he want some action taken against Isa and Stef for perpetrating this hoax? A curious mind wants to know.

Thanks for the recap, Gloria. And thanks to everyone else for the background info. I don't know if there was a real revelation by Israel to JuanMiguel. I thought that when JM came to the house and was astounded to find Israel as the chauffeur it was then that Israel conveyed some kind of implied revelation about Estefania. That's the only think I can remember.

There was a new vocabulary word I had to look up: antonomasia, or "par excellence." Amador used this word when describing Romeo and Juliet. But I unfortunately erased the episode, so I can't point out exactly how he used it.

Howdy folks ;)

Maggie and JJ - There was something funky in this epi's editing. We never saw the scene where Israel told JM Stef loved him, but do see it as a flashback later on (can't remember if it's after Stef read him the riot act or later than that) from Israel. He actually tells JM that if Stef takes him back it will be for his money because she doesn't love him (JM), but rather himself (Israel). Another funky edit thing was that we saw PA tell Ceci that Mari was her real daughter, and then in a scene later on Ceci asked him to tell her what her daughter's name is.

Pasofino - Luego = later.

Gloria, thanks so much for recapping in the midst of your busy schedule. I hope all of you in Cuidado-land had a very happy Thanksgiving!

Speaking of being thankful, Margarita you are a treasure. Thank you for sharing your special knowledge with us. Who said learning can't be fun?

Hello everyone. Happy thanksgiving. Thank you for the great recap and the culture review. Please keep em coming. Very helpful for us non-Spanish folks.

I thought I heard JM mention when he was explaining to someone about his relationship with Elsa (that she was his cousin) that Elsa's father was the brother of his late mother Luisa (or some other name that start's with an L, I can't remember). So abuela Mariana must be JM's grandma since his mother's name starts with an "L". Not sure about this by the way...

Thanks again,
JT

Howdy =)

JT, Viv said that Mariana was JM's mom. If memory serves, Luisa is Elsa's mom, so maybe she was the one that was JM's mom's sister. It's also possible they are just getting their continuity wrong, again.

Hello again ;)

I just double checked on IMDB and Luisa was definitely Elsa's mom (played by Elizabeth Dupeyron). Again, not sure if she was Mariana's sister as I don't remember that conversation, but maybe that's the connection.

whew, thank you for the clarification. so it's clear to me now that granny mariana is definitely jm's mom even though she does look too old.

i don't know how i would ever understand these telenovs without you guys. i can only hope that if i keep watching, i can eventually understand what everyone is saying as i watch.
jt

Margarita, your input is greatly appreciated, as this novela is quite slang heavy. Combined with the rapid pace of the dialogue, it's a challenge to understand it all. I don't think I've ever heard anyone speak as fast as Marichuy -- in ANY language.

Greetings Margarita,
Is there anyway i can get hold of an English speaking version?

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards.
