Cuidado: Friday 11/7/08- "Juan Miguel Begs and Pleads and Gets Nowhere"

Cande opens up to Juan Miguel’s pounding on the door. With Marichuy hiding upstairs, Cande denies that she’s seen her and insists that she has no idea where she may be. She thought she’d be together with JM. Juanmi says they were together, but Mari took off and he thought Cande’s would be the place she’d go. So he asks again if Cande’s sure she hasn’t seen Mari. Cande, says nope, she hasn’t and asks him if there is any chance that MC could be at his house? He’s sure she’s not there and with that answer, Cande asks another question-what happened? Juanmi says that Mari disappeared. Well, there has to be a reason, what did you do? –Cande asks. Why do you ask if I did something-JM wants to know. Cande replies that if a new bride leaves her husband after one day, something had to have happened. JM says that they argued and MC hopped a bus back to DF. He decides that perhaps the bus was delayed and asks Cande to give him a call on his cell when MC shows up there. He hands Cande his card with his number and makes his leave. As he’s walking out, Purita arrives with something from her mother for Cande.

Onelia tells Estefania that JM returned to the DF without Marichuy. Stef is happy to hear this and pumps Onelia for some more information about what kind of connection that JM and MC could have had in the past. Onelia says that they have only known each other for a short period of time, as far as she knows. Onelia questions Stef as to why she would think otherwise. Stef blows her off, saying it was nothing. Stef just thinks it is strange that they can have developed such a love in so short of time (hasn’t she ever watched a novela, according to these people fall in love in record speed….of course, why do I ask, she would be too high class to watch novelas). The conversation switches to Viviana and Onelia mentions that she has been receiving strange phone calls with the person not on the other end talking.

Purita asks what’s been going on at Cande’s. Cande replies- “Men! Always shameless pigs!! Liars the lot of them.” She encourages Purita to remember that and then hollers up to MC that he’s gone, so she can come out now. MC comes down and she’s crying. Purita tries to comfort her. Cande tries to get her to eat. Purita says that she’s sure MC and JM will get everything worked out. The camera pans down to the diamond solitaire and wedding band that MC tossed (notice how neatly they landed near each other when they were emotionally hurled from upstairs on the previous episode--amazing, I know).

The next day we see Purita talking to Adrian, but don’t hear what she’s saying. It is safe to assume she’s telling him the gossip about Mari being at Cande's and having problems with JM. Which is confirmed in the next scene when Adrian goes to Cande’s house and he demands to know if it is true that MC isn’t going back to that man. MC nods and Adrian indicates that he’s glad she agrees. MC asks if Adrian knows who JM really is and he indicates he does. MC is upset that Adrian didn’t tell her that JM is the man who caused her nightmares and that Adrian knowingly let her marry JM. Adrian’s lame excuse is that she seemed happy. Changing the subject, Adrian adds that since they were married such a short time, MC and JM can get the marriage annulled. Good thing there wasn’t enough time for you to do the deed, Adrian adds. MC looks uncomfortable, but doesn’t tell him that JM rocked her world.

Rocio freaks out at the hospital and stumbles into the bathroom and unwraps her bandages on her face. She starts to scream about the horror of her face (it doesn’t look too terrible---just some serious road rash and it will heal…she’s got a couple of lines stitched across her cheeks, they might look nasty for awhile, but in all honesty, this isn't as bad as it could be). Rocio continues to freak about how horribly disfigured she is and Vicente hears her screaming, not realizing it is her, and asks his mom to go be with Rocio so she won’t be upset by the yelling patient. Meanwhile, Elsa and Beatriz come to visit Rocio and they are shocked to see her face….Really people it isn’t that bad. She’s still got all the pieces of her face, they are just scraped up a bit----sheesh, it could be much, much worse.

Viviana calls JM’s office, pretending to be a patient of his in order to pry some info out of his staff. From Israel, she learns JM's out of town because he got married and finds out that Marichuy is the woman he married. She bursts out laughing, realizing that MC is the laundress girl. Israel doesn’t understand why this is so funny. Viv excuses herself and giving him a fake name says she’ll not leave a message, she’ll just call back later. Israel discusses this call with a co-worker and she says that she’d expect such a reaction from someone like Stef, who must hate MC for marrying JM. Israel looks pained at hearing Stef’s name and that she would be jealous of Marichuy.

Mari goes to visit Padre Anselmo and tells him all about how she learned that JM is the man from her nightmares. She asks PA how Juan could have made love to her, knowing all the time the truth and deceiving her. Just then, JM walks into PA’s office. He says –"Finally I found you Marichuy." She asks him why he’s been looking for her (stupid question, but she's entitled I guess). He asks why she ran away (stupid questions; MC:1, JM:1). She retorts- "So, I should have stuck around for you to hurt me some more?" JM insists that they have to talk. Mari rants to Padre Anselmo that JM’s a liar, she'd love to spit in his face, but that PA should kick him out. JM appeals to MC to forgive him and that she needs to stop acting like a child and face the situation they are in. PA advises JM to take a look at his own behavior before scolding MC. JM asks again for MC to listen. She says why, so you can hurt me some more. She tells him as far as she's concerned, she never needs to see him again. JM says he won’t give up on her and she replies that's fine, she’ll give up on him. JM begs PA to intercede and PA says he can’t. JM pleads and reminds PA that he said God would forgive him. PA reminds JM that he broke his word to God and that causes him to lose the forgiveness (a truly penitent person does not repeat the sin, to repeat the sin is an insult to God---according to my childhood priest---when you think about what a child says in confession---I didn't listen to my parents, I fought with my brothers---well recidivism's gotta run pretty high, therefore repeated insults to the Heavenly Father, pretty heavy burden to lay on a child, but I digress).

Onelia and Maya have a discussion about Maya’s conversation with JM. Maya tells Onelia that her dad said that MC will not be living with them any time soon. This seems to make them both happy. I think little Mayita needs to go to her secret place and have a little visit with Abuelita Mariana.

Rocio screams to the nurse that she doesn’t want anyone to see her this way. Vicente’s mom gets to the room and starts to comfort Rocio and the nurse runs out to get the doctor. Elsa and Beatriz stand helpless in the background.

Juanmi tries to explain his situation once again to PA. He wanted to allow MC to experience the sweetness and kindness of love before exposing her to their painful past. PA says that was an error. MC demands to know why JM thought it was OK to lie to her by hiding the truth. He tries to explain. She says she’ll never forgive him, so don’t bother to come looking for me again. She leaves, slamming the door behind her. PA lectures JM on taking advantage of MC’s innocence and going back on his word to God---he’d promised not to touch her until he’d revealed the truth. JM tries once again to tell his side of the story. PA is angry, so he’s not in the mood to listen and he advises JM to forget about Mari, there’s nothing more he can do.

Stef and Isa lounge by the pool. Stef fills her in on what she knows about JM and MC. Isa speculates that perhaps the nightmares are the connection between JM and MC’s past. She even suggests that JM and MC were lovers for awhile, even when Viv was alive. Stef isn’t so sure. Stef tells Isa that she’s stepped up her plan to snag Ed and perhaps she’ll get some more info out of him--that way she can hurt/ humilate JM. Isa leaves as Cece approaches. Cece suggests that Stef go visit Rocio. Stef doesn’t agree and Cece says she can’t blame Rocio for what happened with Juanmi. Stef says that Rocio could have supported her, but didn’t. Now Stef’s lost a good looking rich doctor as a prospective husband. Cece is disturbed to hear her “daughter” focus on JM’s money. She pries, hoping that Stef will admit that love, not money, was her motive in wanting to marry JM. Stef says that Cece married into money, therefore she should understand. Cece says she fell in love with Pat not knowing he came from money. What luck, mutters Stef and then she adds that she’s just trying to get back what she was deprived of when Cece “abandoned” her. Trying to tone down her bitchiness, Stef says that she’s not being critical of Cece (oh but yes you are, and considering Cece had nothing to do with your lot in life, you are just being the biznitch you truly are, there I go again another digression) but there is no denying she went without and now she just wants what she didn’t have. No denying it, Stef is offering up some good emotional blackmail, making Cece suffer. The cell phone rings and indicating this conversation is over, Stef answers her cell. It is Onelia, calling to give Stef the latest. Stef is overjoyed to hear of the problems between JM and MC. She knows there has got to be more to the story and she’s determined to find out what it is. Cece’s face shows repulsion at Stef’s comments and behavior.

JM visits Rocio and she cries that it would have been better to have died. She begs him to not let Vicente see her like this. JM says it will all be OK and he’s going to consult the plastic surgeon.

Adrian brings flowers and a lollipop to Mari. Purita is visiting and she looks mildly jealous at his behavior toward MC. Adrian once again encourages MC to get an annulment but MC ends up spilling the details about her romance with JM, including the fact that they made love. Adrian looks upset at this news (now Marichuy is tainted goods).

Stef tells Isa her conversation with Onelia and then decides she’s got to go see Rocio. She might run into JM at the hospital. When she gets to Rocio’s room, she catches sight of her face and she can’t disguise her utter horror. This makes Rocio cry all over again. JM comes back from visiting the surgeon and Stef starts to give her “well wishes” on his marriage to MC. JM can tell it isn't sincere and tells her he doesn’t want to talk about it . Then he leaves the room. Stef apologizes to Rocio about her reaction, and once again fails to sound sincere, but this could just be me---I honestly couldn't tell if Rocio sensed the insincerity of Stef's words, I can only hope she did.

JM goes to talk to Ed and he fills his best friend on what happened and what MC said at Padre Anselmo’s office. Ed says give it time and then JM should try to work things out with Marichuy. JM’s resigned himself that time won’t cure these problems. Ed encourages his friend to not give up…..JM needs to be willing to fight for Marichuy.

Stef runs into Israel outside the hospital. He ends up confessing that he believes he’s falling in love with her. She laughs and he tells her not to laugh. She basically tells him that he’s got nothing to offer her. He reminds her that he’ll be a doctor some day and therefore has a bright future. She says she’s not willing to wait 20 years to get what she wants. Consider yourself lucky Israel, she's truly a biznitch and you are so much better without her.

Adrian and MC are leaving Cande’s. Adrian wants to know if PA knows that MC and JM slept together. MC tells Adrian that PA knows. However, she's rejected any chance of reconciliation with JM, so they’ll have to see what can be done. Just then JM shows up and tells MC that they need to talk, without witnesses, and it will be the last time they talk, but they need to talk. Adrian lets into Juan and the two men have a not very impressive pissing contest. Adrian basically tells JM to get lost and JM says he won’t go unless Marichuy asks him to go. The camera flashes to her face, she looks upset, but we know most likely she’ll tell him to leave…but we won’t know until Monday as this is the END OF THE EPISODE.

Haven't read the recap yet (or seen the program) but thank you for doing that vocabulary list Cathy. It's excellent and very helpful.

Dear Cathy,
Thank you for your prompt and concise recap.
Since I've been bummed out by FELS, I really enjoy this telenovela. Hopefully, it wil continue to be fastmoving.
Alice

I dont speak spanish and understand some. Somehow I have been drawn to the program and I cant tell you how helpful these recaps are in clearing up what I dont understand. Thanks so much all of you for your recaps. Any idea if english subtitles are available or will become available? Thanks Lori

Thanks for the excellent and thorough recap, Cathy! Especially the vocab. I am learning lots of new words from this show.

Yet another not-so-fun episode but hey, Juan Miguel looks way hot when he's suffering. Are those eyelashes for real?

Rocio needs to get over herself a little. The plastic surgeon can probably work wonders since she seems pretty intact; even if she's left with a few faint scars that isn't going to make her not pretty. Considering they were on a motorcycle without helmets, she's lucky she isn't seriously deformed or brain-damaged.

I'm not sure Padre Anselmo is much good as a priest. His advice is pretty questionable.

Cathy: Thanks for the recap and the vocab. Juanmi (I like that name) sure got around - one minute in the castle, next, in the hospital, then in church, at Cande's. His wings need a rest.

Speaking of vocab, here are some of the "names" Mari has been called by the high-class folks: perdularia - as above and a favorite of Onelia; naca; chava; este muerte de hambre; golfa; imbecil. I'm sure there are more, but that's all I've got.

Thanks for the recap..
Once again I am totally confused.
Maybe it is cause I seldom pay much attention to what is really going on.

Okay I get that MariChuy was really scared by JM years ago. Okay he didn't rape her did he?

So how come she puts herself in dangerous situations with scary Armando? I think that is his name. I mean that Dude made it very clear from the beginning that he was going to nail MC, no matter what.

Awesome recap Cathy =) Loved your Estafa asides. I also agree that Rocio is probably not as bad off as she thinks she is. There are a couple of scars that plastic surgery (or perhaps just some chemical peels) could easily fix, but the bulk of the "disfiguration" is just swelling that will go away with time.

I'm with Julia, PA needs to go back to seminary on his advising skills.

Quick note, Adrian's lame excuse for not telling MC that JM was the guy is that she wouldn't believe him because she'd think he was just being a sore loser.

On the vocabulary -
Paleta = Lollipop
Pelada/o = uncouth
portazo specifically refers to a slamming door.
retachar can also mean to go back.

It occurs to me that now that Marichuy has actually had sex, she might realize that what happened to her was not rape. Yes, I'm giving JM the benefit of the doubt and saying what occurred was not full blown rape, but molestation. Still, I imagine finding out you willingly gave your virginity to a man who once attacked you is probably a hell of blow. The sensible thing ('cause we all know how sensible JM is) is to give her some time to heal, perhaps encourage her to seek therapy (maybe ask PA to make the suggestion rather than making it himself).

I wonder if Mayita's dead grandma is speaking to her right now? Maybe now that she's gotten meaner towards Mari (because of mommy being back and all) perhaps she's stopped listening to her conscience.

Beckster, with the exception of going to parties with the artsy crowd (you know, safety in numbers) Marichuy has pretty much avoided Amador. She had no way of knowing he'd be in Vicente's studio without Vicente in it (though she probably shouldn't have gone alone), and it was Amador who broke in to the Velarde house and connived to get an invite to Estafa's party. There ya go thinking it's all the victim's fault... (you know I kid!)

Thanks for the vocabulary, everyone. Very helpful.

Rocio looks like she only has some scabbing, hardly disfiguring burns or scarring. I guess they don't have the makeup budget to do real special effects makeup.

Thanks for the info..

Whoa so she didn't know she hadn't been raped? Wow we are talking years of therapy here. This is kind of really screwed up. I really hate when they have "the young innocent"(she is like twenty right?) now didn't she run off years ago, I'm thinking 13 or 14 and live on the streets until the JM thing? At the age of 13 or 14 a girl on your own on the streets of Mexico City, you wouldn't be innocent for long. So are we to believe she knows nothing of the actual sexual act? I just don't get it..these people aren't puritans, like shouldn't she know the basics? Just by word of mouth?

I made the changes to the vocab list, thanks Margarita. I did write paleta down as reference to the lollipop, but when I looked it up on wordreference.com it gave me uncouth as the meaning. So I thought it was some sort of insult someone slung at Marichuy. I've put them both out there. I couldn't find pelada on wordreference -so I didn't add it to the list.

I'm not quite sure why Marichuy is acting or reacting the way she is, but then I'm not so sure what actually happened in the past between her and Juanmi. I hope she'll allow him to explain himself to some degree, so at least we the viewers can understand what happened.

I also meant to add this to the last post:

I'll try to include the words I write down and look up while recapping to my future recaps. I'm glad you found them helpful.

Hi there! folks. Thanks for the recap, Cathy. Alway a nice job.

I haven't being reading these comments for a couple of days, so I catching up. I did see the two episodes which were sad to me. Poor Juan Miguel - but we knew that he would suffer for not telling Marichuy the truth before he married her. However, he is right she would still feel the same way she would still not want to see him.

Marichuy is feeling lots of confusing feelings right now. I think she eventually get over this if he really didn't rape her.

Someone has to find out for sure if - JUAN MIGUEL raped Marichuy or not or if it was just some kind of molestration.
We can't continue to wonder what happened? Who could let us know? Maybe a website or maybe one of the writers or what? I want to know.

What we know is that he grabs her against a tree - we do not see them on the ground him on top of her or tearing her clothes.
We know that she freaks out when a guy gets close to kiss her or hold on to her for example, Adrian and Amador. She was uneasy with Juanmiguel at first, but she got warmed up to him. Yes, we were shown that she is innocent before the wedding night. Like the fact that Juan Miguel told her that she didn't have to do anything that she wasn't ready for. She gave her consent to him. He said that he didn't raped her but attack her and kiss roughly maybe several times. She did hit him, so she did get away.

One thing we know is that something happened to the little girl Marichuy that has caused her nightmares. Maybe something happened at the orphanage, for that was one of the reason she left. She was traumized badly. She really suffered when she was out on the street living with other children or by herself.

Thank the Lord for Cande. She rescued her. No wonder she love her like a mother. She is mom to her.

I really despises the two witches (Isa & Estefania) and the Supreme witch herself Onelia. Those three need to be put in their place - down a ditch or down a hill.

I think I have an idea where Juan Miguel works and what he is. He works in a government hospital as a psychoanalyst (psychotherapist). He is analyst because he can use other tools like Hypnosis that other counselor don't use. He works with patients that come to the hospital for mental health. He can't prescribe medication, though.
This is what I guess.

Genevieve

There's still been no mention of violacion, or "el me violo"... unless I've missed the word in the dialogue or captions, or the translated synopsis. (Where can I find the actual synopsis in Spanish? Esmas?) And now that Chuy's had sex with Juanmi, you'd think she'd compare or mention "it was horrible when I was forced, but making love is very different", something to that effect. Anything. I'm sticking with assault.

Well, our favorite troop of flying monkeys were in cockroach form this episode. Rather than swooping around and into people's business like vultures, they were lounging around on their backs with legs in the air, all a'wiggling, scheming on how to get more ugly gossip to snicker about. Makes you want to grab a can of RAID Ant and Roach killer. Or some Black Flag.

Yep, Mayita may be succumbing to the witches in her life. Abue Mariana hasn't been nudging her, and she's been pretty sullen. C'mon, little one! Don't go down like this, sweetie. :(

To Juanmi's credit, he was right to be by Rocio's side for her unwrapping, rather than running after Chuy. Rocio was way more important in that situation.

I do believe those eyelashes are for real, Julia. Every bit as real as his tackle box. Ahhhhhhh.

Oooops! I didn't forget you, Cathy. Thanks for your hard work. :)

Just an update: I went on Esmas, Televisa, Univision, read sinopsis and specific chapters en Espanol. All I could find was Juanmi persecuted by his past, Chuy persecuted by nightmares of a man persecuting her, attacked as in chased, grabbed, stalked, hands on her.

No rape to speak of. I'm thankful; what did happen was bad enough.

Lori -- I think the only English subtitles will be when the show is out on DVD. And the captions, English or Spanish, depend on the television station where you live. For the longest time, no captions of any kind were provided here in Atlanta, though our TV was caption-capable, then one day, boom, we got them from Univision but only in Spanish. *shrug* Over on channel Telemundo, I have seen English captions!

Thanks for the recap and vocab, Cathy!

I agree that Rocio's facial injuries don't look so horrible. The roadrash and scratches should heal fairly quickly and it looks like any scarring should be minimal, especially with a little plastic surgery help. But she is young and her reaction is probably normal. Looks are very important at that age.

I understand Beckster's confusion with Marichuy's extreme trauma over her attack. It does appear it was only grabbing and attempted rough kissing. It was a terrible thing for Juan Miguel to do, but it does seem hard to understand how Marichuy could be so deeply and lastingly traumatized by it when she seems to approach everything else with street smarts and a little toughness. I would expect anger, some fear, and feeling icked out, but certainly not the degree of trauma she has.

Nevertheless, Juan Miguel should have known she required counseling, by someone other than him, to help her get a grip on things. Maybe if he had talked to her more than once about what happened, instead of focusing on "hey, don't you like me?", he would have understood what she needed.

I may be the only one, but I don't feel too badly about Juan Miguel and Marichuy being separated for a while. Marichuy needs to mature and JM needs to deal with his own demons and spinelessness. Then they will be a much stronger and better couple, in my opinion. I don't think that kind of growth could come for either of them if they stayed together right now.

I'm happy to see Cece is seeing Estefania for who she is. I really like the fact that Cece has always been drawn to Marichuy, it's sweet to think that mother-child bond is there subconsciously.

Thanks , Cathy. I usually only catch a few minutes of this show since I try to watch QE and Fuego and drop in on DB for a few moments if I can. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one confused about the what-when-and how of that fateful meeting between JM and Mari in the past. How does Adrian know that JM is the man in Mari's nightmares ? If Viviana returns, an annulment won't be an issue . That storyline reminds me of the old Doris Day/ James Garner movie ''Move Over Darling'' in which the first wife returns from a desert isle on the same day her hubby has had her declared dead and remarried. The Viviana return will not be as funny.

Howdy =)

Susalynn, Adrian knows about JM because the priest accidentally let it slip that JM told him he discovered himself the attacker. It wasn't under the seal of confession, but we all agree it was hardly appropriate for PA to spill such a thing.

Cathy, here's a bit of useless trivia with a funny story about "pelada." Those of you that saw "Fea" probably got to see Maribel Fernandez, aka "La Pelangocha." Through a large part of the 80s, Fernandez worked in a show called "Mi Secretaria" (my secretary). Her character was rude, crude, confrontational, and occasionally violent (comically so, but still). The boss never fired her (no idea why), but would get into all sorts of verbal sparring and would call her things like "vieja pelada." Until one day, he accidentally called her "vieja pelangocha" and it stuck for the rest of her career. As a result, although she's played some sweet and mild characters, her bread and butter are the rude and tacky ones. I've seen her in a few interviews and she's actually very nice and well spoken, but you go where the paycheck is.

Hi all,

I found this website http://tamugaia.com/vp2 by accident and I think it's really great to checkout. Just type the name of the show and video search. From this I can see that they're already released up to capitulo 110 for "Cuidado con el angel".

You can see a lot of that preview on Youtube or discussions on Telenovela World. On TW, some people have been watching the Mexican episodes ahead on Youtube, but they mark their entries as spoilers, so I skip them.

Hi everyone! I'm coming to chime in on the "assault" thing. I was attacked when I was 12 or so at a pool. I wasn't raped but I was definitely attacked and I'll tell ya, it scares you for sometime. So, MC being all crazy, is actually sort of realistic especially if she didn't remember his face and then all of a sudden saw it. But, I'm ok now and realize it wasn't me who did anything and that there's a bid difference with someone you love and going all the way. Whatever, I'm getting too deep for this.
Wasn't there a reference somewhere saying that Juanmi said he was harrasing her and then ran after her to make sure she was alright when he realized what he did? So, I think all the flash backs are from when he was trying to make sure she was all right and what we haven't seen is him actually "molestaring" her. Anyone?
Oh yeah! Great summary Cathy!

Howdy =)

Moon, I think we've seen the whole event (albeit, not in full detail) of the first chase where he caught her, where he kissed her and felt her up, and her finally getting away and hiding behind a tree when he ran after her a second time (which we now know was to apologize and make sure she was alright). Chances are she was only about 18 or 19 when this happened and yes, even without rape, sexual assault can be very traumatic, and finding out you slept with your attacker would make things that much worse.

Moon--thanks for sharing.
