QE #107 - Once again, deep wounds and resentments are healed in 5 seconds

*sniff* my final QE recap – I’ll be taking over Fridays starting next week with Tontas. QE has turned into a very fun show in the second half of its run, so I’m sorry to see it go. I hope Tontas is a worthy follow-up.

Sara screams at Lorena that she’ll get even, even as she’s being led away in handcuffs. Lorena says whatever. Sara screeches at the cops to let her go, she starts kicking them and everything. I expected them to ‘accidently’ bump her head on the door when they put her in, but no. She screams at Lorena as the car drives away. She is completely off her rocker.

Hort apologizes to Santiago for running him off that day he ran into her before, perhaps she could have warned him about Sara. Santiago says no matter, Fafy died as he lived, perhaps it was destiny. Oh what’s this – is Santiago hitting on Hort? And is she liking it? He asks to see her and she says that so long as Fafy isn’t the subject of the entire conversation, she’d be glad to. Whoa didn’t see THAT coming.

Felipe finds Paty crying over an onion, she tells him that Vasco dumped her. Felipe wastes no time in complimenting how smart, noble, and pretty she is. Well, that wraps it up for those two.

Sara is brought into the police station with news cameras crowding around her. She acts nuts, that won’t help her out later. Omar watches on TV in his lonely room and says “finally!”

Ernesto shows up at the police station with about 20 people with him, all of the regular cast members, he wants to put the video he took as evidence against Sara. Somehow they all arrived before Sara, even though she was in a car with lights and siren blaring. How did that happen? Did they use the flue network? (Sorry Harry Potter nerd digression there) Hort says she wants that video to also be evidence in a different case, the charge of attempted murder because she tried to kill Hort herself. Sara is now brought through the main room (which would never ever happen in real life) and issues threats and general ranting. Elfin lawyer Joel tells the investigator “See? See how she is?” The investigator nods solemnly. Lorena tells Sara to keep talking, it will make convicting her that much easier. Sara swears to get out of jail. The guards leave her alone in the cell area with the meanest female guard ever, for the first time ever Sara is actually scared. I like this guard.

Over dinner, Zulema and extended family hope Sara will be found guilty of everything so she never gets out of jail. Vasco and Diana announce that they are together again, and for forever this time. The phone rings, it’s Omar, she hands the phone off to Lorena. Omar thought for a minute Zulema would talk to him, but no. He saw everything on TV and wanted to talk about it.

In the other room, Hort tells Zulema that she must still love Omar. Here we go – another “Love solves everything” speech. If only that were true. Oh well on TV I guess it’s true. Zulema says yes but that doesn’t mean she should forgive him. Hort wants Zulema to take him back, Zulema isn’t convinced. Hort says to start over from the beginning. Zulema now looks like she might think about it. Hort begs. Somehow she seems to convince her.

Hort and Zulema sing a song to Lorena, but it isn’t her birthday. I don’t quite catch what they tell her, is it the anniversary of her finding out that she is really Zulema’s daughter, or what? Somebody help me out please, thanks. Anyway, Lorena makes a wish and blows out the candles, and the sound of her doing that makes me think she spit all over the cake. Gross.

Sara rots in jail. She still has fresh makeup and hair, but at the lesser house it is the next morning already. She daydreams about Alonso. She swears vengeance against Lorena. Yes, again.

Oh I guess today is Lorena’s REAL birthday, not the birthday she got at the orphanage, which was the day she was dropped off. They discuss a party.

Rosy and Maruja set the table and are arguing about something, but I’m not sure what. Lorena calls and invites them over for the party later. Rosy wants to know who is invited, meaning Ern and Alonso of course. Lorena says just family. Rosy says she knows what she’s bringing, and calls Ern. Julian overhears, then he runs to Jaime to explain the whole thing. He wants to tell Alonso about Ern, so Ern doesn’t have an unfair advantage.

Ern tells the kids he’s going to Lorena’s pueblo to get something. They celebrate at the mere mention of her name.

Alonso thanks Julian for the news and invitation. Jeez these meddling relatives. Toribio is excited about the party and starts rambling on and on about stuff.

Zulema, Lorena, Diana, and Hort enjoy some champurrado. Lorena smells it and correctly guesses the secret ingredient. Turns out she has figured out all of Zulema’s secrets. The conversation of course turns to which guy she will pick, they analyze each guy’s zodiac sign.

Sara thinks the jail food is horrible. The public defender shows up to talk to her, she acts like a total bitch to him (yeah I know, what’s new, right?). He wants to know the truth about everything so he knows how to defend her. She needs to also be ready to plead guilty or not guilty. She wants him to leave, but he says they need to talk.

Zulema instructs her helper on what to buy and set up for the party later. Helper leaves. The doorbell rings, Zulema thinks it’s helper of course, but also of course, it’s Omar. She doesn’t welcome him. She says Lorena isn’t home, she’s at work. Omar wants to talk to Zulema. Zulema doesn’t want to listen. He isn’t here to ask for forgiveness, he wants to offer something. He wants to register Lorena with her true name and with the true names of her parents. Then Omar says he won’t fool himself any longer, it’s obvious Zulema won’t ever forgive him, so maybe the best thing to do is get divorced. I see what he’s doing here – he’s going to put the pressure on Zulema now. She either asks him to come back, or they get divorced. She invites him in to wait. Omar asks if he can see Saulito, Zulema says sure, she’ll go get him.

At the company’s kitchen, they all celebrate Lorena’s birthday and drink out of orange and yellow plastic cups. Classy.

The guard takes off Sara’s cuffs and puts her back into her cell. The lawyer says that he can’t get her out of the charges, all he can do is try and minimize the damage. Sara cusses at him and tells him to leave. She says to herself that she has to get out of jail somehow.

Omar enjoys a little visit with Saulito. Zulema is emotional watching them together. The helper returns, in record time. She’s been gone for five minutes.

Toribio discusses the plan for later with Paula, Bettina, and Raimundo. Will Alonso propose later? Toribio says Alonso should just ask her and if it spoils the party, whatever. It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Raimundo says in that case – he plants a big kiss on Paula – he is going to marry Paula and won’t take no for an answer.

Arturo plays solitaire on his computer. His mami gives him some nasty brain drink, he doesn’t want it. Now he has a new idea, movies! He’s going to sell movies. Bootleg movies. On the street corner. And the money to start? He’s going to sell the house.

Toribio tries to backtrack from what he said, but doesn’t succeed very well. Paula doesn’t get a chance to answer, finally Rai gets down on a knee and proposes properly. Paula says yes and the whole family looks really happy. Must be Ultimos Capitulos, with nobody looking regretful, worried, or conniving.

Mami is not happy about Arturo selling the house, to which he says “what you have no confidence in me?” WHY SHOULD SHE? She won’t back down on the house, so he threatens to leave. Of course she caves and agrees to sell the house. Wow these are the two stupidest people on earth. As he thanks her, they share an inappropriate and very creepy hug. How did this guy ever land Valeria. It’s a crime against humanity. Speaking of, where is Valeria? It’s a conspiracy to keep her out of my episodes, I’m sure of it. Maybe it’s for the best, otherwise I might spend a few paragraphs writing love notes to her and that’s probably not a good idea. Let’s move on.

The ladies set up the party at the lesser house. Lorena shows up and accepts whistles and cheers for her dress. It is a nice dress, but looks like something a middle aged woman should wear, it has zero sex appeal. Zulema gives her a present of a necklace with a picture of the virgin on it. Some others show up, Felipe, Barbara, the sous chef from work. They give her presents. Vasco says wait wait, I have something! He brings in a plant, some ecological message I’m sure. Paty shows up too with a gift. Everyone is here except for the dueling galans. Omar walks in and silences the room. Lorena gives him a hug, Zulema actually invites him in this time. Together they give Lorena her new birth certificate, with her real name, Lorena Armendariz Ruiz. Hortensia is overcome and starts crying. It actually is quite emotional.

Alonso and family drive towards the house. Toribio is preparing his speech to ask for Lorena’s hand, at this Alonso pulls over and tells him no way. They proceed.

Omar says he’s going to leave now, Lorena begs Zulema to let him stay. Zulema says he doesn’t need her permission, this is his house. She can’t stay mad any more, she loves him, she wants to start over. Diana and Julian each welcome him back in turn, there are lots of tears. I’m sure a lot of you discovered your TV rooms getting a bit dusty as well.

Now we see ANOTHER car, this is Team Ern on their way to Lorena’s house.

Julian/Jaime and then Rosy/Maruja each worry that their chosen galan won’t show. Alonso arrives first, with family in tow. Julian is excited, Rosy rolls her eyes. Alonso gives her a cookbook. Jaime asks Julian to put on some music, then criticizes his choice of mariachi music. Julian says it isn’t him, the music is outside! Of course this is Team Ern, arriving just in time to c*ckblock Alonso. Now Rosy lords over Julian. What a way to ruin a birthday. They are all so concerned that their chosen galan wins that they are willing to set up a duel in the middle of the party.

Valeria! She is sitting in Alonso’s office, she picks up his coat and sniffs it. Oh Valeria, don’t break my heart. She remembers Alonso telling her how great she is when he was at her house. Boss lady comes into the office and Valeria hurriedly puts the coat back on the coatrack. Boss lady tells her about some special course at some other hospital in town, but Valeria thinks handling the kids will prevent her from going. Boss lady says she needs to figure something out, to think about her future.

Lorena looks very 1970s now. I see what Ern went to get, he brought at least one of the nuns. Zulema and Omar talk happily in the kitchen. She asks him one thing – to love her. Bettina runs into Ivan and they get snippy at each other. Felipe and Paty dance together, turns out they both love dancing, he tries to suggest going out dancing. Lorena and Ern start to dance. Lorena’s 70s hair is really bugging me. Toribio tells Alonso to get over and get Lorena’s attention himself! The little nun says don’t worry, I’ll take care of this – she goes to dance with Alonso herself. I guess the nun prefers Ern. Toribio turns down the music and wants to say something – Alonso manages to stop him. Lorena instead thanks everyone for coming and says how happy she is. For the first time ever, she has everything. Ivan with Ern, and Bettina with Alonso, keep trying to prompt the galans into proposing. Toribio chickens out of his speech and the music starts up again. Lorena is an idiot for thinking these two guys will just happily co-exist like this.

Sara in jail talks to the empty room and swears vengeance on Lorena again.

Lorena says goodbye to Team Ern and they all leave. She then thanks Team Alonso for coming. Alonso stops on the way out, but then just smiles and leaves. Lorena follows him outside. Alonso asks if she knew Alonso got invited, she says no. He says he thought maybe Julian calling him was a sign that she was ready to move forward with him. Ern walks up and says he thought the same thing about him. The pissing match ensues. The guys puff their chests out and mildly insult each other, Alonso accuses Ern of using the kids as a ‘good guy’ front. Lorena says “hellooo I’m right here!” She says if they are going to act like this, she won’t get together with either one of them. So basically she is just admitting that there is an open competition. Is she keeping it up to inflate her ego, or what?

Mean prison guard cuffs Sara again, the lawyer says she’s getting moved to another location or something. I didn’t catch why. Then the most ridiculous thing in the world happens – she is in the back of a cop car, next to a detective who has his gun tucked into his pants, right there next to Sara. Of course he’s staring out the window. She grabs the gun and shoots the guy, then shoots the driver. Wow she really is crazy. The car careens off the road and ends up upside down on the hill off the side of the road.

At the lesser house, Lorena discusses with the nuns how Sara is now locked up and can’t do any more harm. Yeah right.

The back window of the upside down cop car breaks out (another bit of ridiculousness, those windows are bulletproof) and Sara’s hands reach out – she’s alive!

Preview – Sara somehow finds a car, some clothes, some makeup, and keeps the cop’s gun and waits outside Lorena’s house to start shooting people.

Comments:
I noticed one of her hands was bruised when she poked them out the broken window. I hope we're not supposed to think she punched the window out!

Someone asked earlier about why Alonso and Ernesto both bought new rings for Lorena. I wondered the same thing! Maybe it's bad luck to give a ring after it's been rejected.

Ha ha, Snorty and Santi...what an unlikely pair. I love it!

I almost lost it (weepy-wise) twice tonight. The first when Raimundo proposed and Tori almost cried, or did cry, and the second when Lorena got her true name. I felt like such a sap.

What in the hell were the nuns wearing on their heads?

I like the tough jailer woman too. I'll bet if she was in the car Sara wouldn't have gotten away, she would have gotten bopped on the head instead.

I'm becoming quite fond of the way everybody spills their guts in front of a crowd, Vasco and Diana announcing "we're together forever" in front of the family, and Zuly and Omar making up with the whole party looking on.

Ewww, wasn't Arturo and his Mami's scene weird? He even called her mamacita. I almost lost my dinner. I enjoyed your rant about him and Valeria. I don't know what she ever saw in the boob, I'm sure she doesn't know either.

Fantastic final recap Chris. I'm with you, the one has really ramped up at the end. Thanks! We'll see you on Tontas.

Thanks Ferro for making me laugh. We've had another episode in the hospital and believe me, I'd rather watch a telenovela than live through one. All is well, once again (my husband stopped taking a vital medication 10 days ago and didn't tell anyone) but I only saw snippets of this and couldn't get into it. However I really enjoyed your recap and always love your odes to Valeria!

Santiago and Hortensia!? Wow, I didn't see that coming either. Glad Paty and Felipe hooked up...they're both annoying when they're pursuing other people but perhaps they'll do better together.
The instant forgiveness scenario is always interesting. Zulema would need a lobotomy for it to really be that easy but whatever....tempus fugit and we're racing to the happy ending.

Hi, I dropped by to say Happy Thanksgiving. I'm going to try to watch the next show, see what Jaime is like with curly hair, so maybe I'll visit around here more often! Thank you all for trudging along with me, you make the world better!!!

Thanks Ferro! I was afraid you were going to be cheated out of your final recap of Valeria, she didn't get much screen time tonight. Arturo is just beyond disgusting, I can't imagine how Valeria ever hooked up with him. And his idiot mother agreeing to sell her house. But hey, if they have the same housing market we do, he's still out of luck.

I realize it's a main storyline of this entire telenovela, but I'm finding it harder and harder to go along with the "which one will she chose" thing. It does seem to be kind of an ego trip for Lorena. Marrying someone shouldn't be like deciding which dessert you want, eeny meeny miny mo (although that would explain the divorce rate).

But overall, these ultimas semanas have been really great. And it looks like Sara will be going out with a bang, not a whimper!

Snorty and Santi? I can't quite picture it, but if it will get Santi a life, I'm all for it. I was so depressed last week to see him in his little rented room, drinking coffee out of a styrofoam cup at a tiny table that most people would use for a plant or a telephone and not for eating meals. Hopefully, when he's running the old folks' home, he can eat at a big-boy table.

I'm still wondering what's the point of Ickturo's return. It seems unnecessary at this point. I imagined he'd either go bankrupt in Europe or get caught by Interpol - at least one of those fates (if not both) seemed inevitable and I was fine with that.

I think Vasco's gift to Lorena was a portable/indoor herb garden. I couldn't figure out what Paty's gift was.

And did you notice that Ernesto's was bigger AGAIN. His gift, I mean. Seriously - getting a cookbook for a chef? Could Alonso possibly have been more unimaginative? Doesn't he know anything else about Lorena? (Yeah, yeah, I know. For my 30th birthday, my fiance gave me a deck of cards.)

I actually liked Lorena's Farrah hair - until it drooped and then it was just a mess. (I've been there, Lorena. Believe me.)

I'm glad your husband is well, Judy, but how frightening! I hope the two of you are in for a long, boring stretch of excellent health!

My best wishes for you and your husband too Judy. I know us men have a tendency to not follow medical advice and on behalf of the rest of us, sorry about that. We'll try harder now.

The one thing about the cookbook was that Lorena said she had been meaning to get that one forever, and obviously Alonso knew that, so he was going for the personal touch. While I like Ernesto better as an overall person, I'm slooowly (I know please don't throw rocks at me) starting to wonder if Alonso is a better match for Lorena anyway. Ern seems to want an instant mom. Alonso is just dying without her and is much less afraid to let her know that, as annoying as it is. I think I'm just falling into the writers' trap.

Also was it just me, or did you see how they wrote Arturo's scene to make him act like a 10 year old? Before he was just incompetent, but kind of seemed like an adult. Now he's just about wearing diapers. I'm not sure where that story is going either, except maybe to lead to Alonso totally kicking his ass and impressing Valeria.

You're right, Ferro. Lorena's undecided, but I'm not. She can have Alonso and I will keep Ernesto. Works for me.

And she did say she wanted the cookbook, true. But I think she should buy the cookbook for the business and write it off as a business expense. :)

I guess Alonso could kick Arturo's ass again, but Valeria's already impressed with him, so that seems like overkill. I was wondering if maybe he showed up to be another person for Sara to kill, but this also seems like overkill. Maybe he'll do something to make amends to Hortensia (I don't see how). Or maybe the writers felt that we needed to see his comeuppance with our own eyes. Perhaps Icky will become a priest and Tori will take Mami back. (shudder)

Oh!! Maybe Icky and Greta can get together. They can bond over their homewrecking experiences. How sick and perfect would that be?

The sad thing is that if Arturo and Greta got together, somehow they'd end up being perfectly happy. He is used to being completely dominated by a woman. He'll have to pretend Greta's his mom in order to feel comfortable.. ok never mind that's just too gross.

Whoa...you guys are getting punchy with these matchups!!!! But hey, you just made me smile again.

Thanks for the wishes for long boring periods of good health Julie, and also for the male perspective, Ferro. My brother said the same thing. Guys don't like to take medication even if they need it. Cut him some slack.
Let the doctors and nurses yell at him if he needs it (which they all did).

Actually, Greta and Icky might pair well. She'll beat him senseless if he doesn't start making some money at a real job...and that's just what he needs. Valeria was way too nice and Mom...well, let's not even go there.

First, Judyb~~Please know that I am sending good vibes your way. I dealt with the challenges of getting other people to take their meds when I was caring for my dad and later my mother. Now, Hub is in charge of dispensing his mother's meds, calling her daily to remind her to take them, and taking her to doctor appointments. He gets very frustrated. Hang in there. CarayCaray is a great place to come to for a little respite from one's own personal telenovela. [We all are living in one. Maybe we could think up titles for them.] Second, Ferro, thanks for the speedy recap. I guess we all knew that Sara would not ''go softly into that dark night''...not her style. BSC is Sara's signature wayb of dealing. I think that the fiercelooking prison matron is the actress who played a servant in Manuel's hacienda in Amor Real. In that one, she played kind of a simple , gentle soul, but in QE, she looks like just the person we'd want in charge of Nastypants. Now, Sara will drag herself over hill and dale to get even with Lorena. Which galan will save her...Alonslo or Ernie ?? I hope that no one will get killed saving some Lor or Horty or some other good person from THE WRATH OF SARA. [I thought that needed caps.] Maybe Icky was brought back so that he could redeem himself by taking a bullet for one of the good guys . There must be a reason the writers brought him back ,and he has to pay for the money he stole from Horty , the way he treated Val, and his general worthlessness and stupidity. He and Greta would be a scary match because they are both high maintenance, needy oxygenwasters. I'm hoping for a spectacular ending.

Excellent recap, as usual. I thought Dra. Serrano said Valeria's possible new job was in Central America (might be wrong), but if that's what she said, of course, Valeria couldn't just take the kids there.

I agree with Susalynn that maybe Ickturo will take a bullet for the galans, thus redeeming himself. And then, Valeria and Alonso can miraculously save him, look in each other's eyes, and our Lorena problem would be solved. Maybe...

Or, I'd rather we have a new team of superheroes like the scorned ladies version of Charlie's Angels - how about Greta, Monica and Jacqui, dressed in spandex and using their finely manicured nails to nail Sara! Maybe not:)

I think you're right, Hombre - it sounded like she said it was a medical training course somewhere in Central America... like how Alonso had to go to Canada for the bariatric surgery course, I guess. I didn't hear what the specialty was.

I sort of get the feeling that Lorena has decided which fellow she wants, but she's putting off announcing her decision because that will probably mean saying goodbye to the other, even as friends, and she does like him too. I, of course, think she's going to go for Ernesto, because we can't leave Valeria and Ernesto unattached, but it ain't over 'til it's over; anything could happen. I love the last week of novelas!

The dancing at the party reminded me of the Peanuts characters' dancing.

So do Ernesto and Alonso think that Lorena will just go for whichever of them manages to ask first? They're both acting a little freaky. I'm glad neither of them proposed at her birthday party, though...not a question you should ask, ESPECIALLY in front of everyone else, unless you're really sure you know the answer.

Terrific recap, Ferro. I'm looking forward to reading your take on Tontas.

Thinking of you Judy and sorry you and hubs had a hard time at the hospital. Boys can be such stoics at times. A couple of years ago my honey, who'd had a history of hernias, felt a pang but decided to go surfing anyway. He called me on the drive home, having passed out briefly from pain, and asked me to Google hernias. Sheesh! I told him to get his butt to the emergency room where the doc told me he arrived just in time. I told the doc "save him so I can strangle him".

I'm looking forward to tonight, can't wait to see the havoc that Sara will wreak.

"Save him so I can strangle him"!....I love it. It's what I was thinking even if I wasn't saying it.

Thanks for the solidarity, guys and the good vibes, Susanlynn...we can all use 'em. Now I'm going to go upstairs and think verrrrry hard about what I want to call my own personal telenovela.

I'm calling mine "The Wings of Ennui."

Judy B, Best wishes to you and your husband. As a family physician I contend on a daily basis with folks who decide that they don't need their medications anymore and just stop taking them. With heart pts. it's usually stopping a diuretic or an antiarrhythmic medication that leads to a trip to the ER. Perhaps
a pill organizer would help if he forgot his medication. If he was just being difficult perhaps a gentle smack upside his head would help. Carlos

Howdy =)

Thanks to Ferro and Sylvia and Julie for the recent fabu recaps I have been unnable to comment on (had to go out of town for a few days). I haven't had a chance to read this one, but I'm sure it's fabu as always ;)

Wanted to comment on two things from previous episodes:

1) For those who like the "literal" translations instead of the idiomatic ones (loved the linguistics discussion BTW), "comerle el mandado a alguien" literally means "eating someone else's groceries." The idea of someone else beating you to something you were meant to do and perhaps even reaping what you sowed. For the later though, the preferred expression is "nadie sabe para quien trabaja" (nobody knows who they work for) which refers to doing something that someone else benefits from, often instead of you, though sometimes you both benefit.

2) It's been a while and they may have new varieties (I think they have some with chocolate now) but "colchones" are basically dinner rolls. Bimbo makes far better sweet breads (I have a soft spot for "bimbuñuelos" 'cause they're crunchy), but I guess these are the ones they are trying to push. Alas, there isn't much I can recommend for those who live in areas that don't sell Mexican products and want to buy them except maybe to google them. The top Mexican bakery type companies I can think of are Bimbo, Marinela, and Tia Rosa. Perhaps you can find a place that sells them online. You have to be careful though. A few months ago I picked up some pingüinos (penguins - basically the chocolate cupcakes with the squiggly icing line like Hostess makes) at a local convenience store and didn't pay close enough attention to the expiration date. By the time I tried to eat them they were absolutely disgusting. Goya makes some pretty decent cookies that are close to a Mexican counterpart called Gamesa.

We all know that Sara has to die violently and painfully for her sins. I predict that she will die in Lorena' arms, but will she beg forgiveness or die unrepentant? My guess is that she will remain defiant to the end and will probably take an innocent{or perhaps not so innocent victim with her. Carlos

Thanks, Margarita. We do have the Goya cookies (mostly the Marias and a few other things), but that's it.

Next time I'm at Price Rite (not soon) I'll ask if they'd consider carrying Bimbo stuff (assuming they don't already and I just overlooked it). The worse they can do is laugh in my face and throw me out, but I don't think they would do that. :-)

Carlos - I think there is no way Sara will repent at death's door. If she even dies, though she seems determined to get herself killed. She is so far gone, I can't imagine her begging forgiveness. Bruno wasn't so crazy, he constantly tried to get Sara off the loco vengeance bit, so I wasn't as surprised with his confessions. Besides, he confessed more to screw Sara than to be a nice guy. I predict Sara is 100% evil until she is gone.

On the expired cupcakes - I am going to make a big generalization here, but it is based on extensive evidence. The small, Mexican stores that I have shopped at appear to ignore expiration dates. Big supermarkets rotate out all old stuff, probably even getting credit back from vendors for old product. I think smaller stores don't have this option, so I shouldn't single out Mexican stores, those are just the only small markets I go to. I think they have to buy their food and then keep it, so they'll leave it on the shelf forever. I've gotten a few way past the date items too, now I've learned to check. Chewy tostadas - bad.

I used to be able to walk to an Eckerd's. On rare occasions I would pick up a can of soup there, or something like that, if I was feeling too lazy to go to a proper grocery store. I quickly abandoned this habit when I realized how many items were past their "best by" date. (Canned goods should still be okay to eat, but will taste more like the can.)

I don't know if stores get any credit for past-due foods. I think most donate almost-expired items to homeless shelters, community pantries, etc. for a small tax write-off.

Hey Carlos...I remember thinking as I hauled hubby to the Emergency Room that doctors must be so tired of non-compliant patients!

There was a mixup in the prescription and when the pharmacy didn't have his Plavix (very necessary for a guy who just had a stent inserted a few weeks before), my husband decided the Universe was telling him he didn't need it.

New Age thinking is not good when you have heart trouble. Good to know you're a doctor...but I promise not to ask you for advice. (Really, I promise!)...thanks for the understanding and sympathy though.

Julie, love your title. Mine may be "Thinkin' About Going Postal".
Actually, teaching my fitness classes allows me to get the frustration out...and laughing and singing while I teach is a real healer.

And so is this blog group...you guys are the best!

Tontas is a good replacement to QE. Saw a few episodes last month while on vacation.

Oh and Margarita...thanks for the explanation for those "dichos". I always learn so much from you and Maricruz.

And Computer Chick...thanks for the positive info on Tontas...you encouraged us without giving any spoilers. Excellent!

Margarita~~~Thanks for the explanation of the dichos...very interesting. Julie and Judyb~~Good titles. I've been trying to write mine in Spanish, but given the fact that I still don't have a very big vocabulary [because I use the telenovelas for an escape from things I have to do/learn/fix/clean up/tolerate]...All I can come up with is a title I can create from the titles of telenovelas I've watched. So, what do you think of '' Heridas de Bailando con Amor''???????????? And about Sara's tragic flaw [ being completely BSC], I think that she will go out kicking, screaming, and moving her little Claymation into unbelievable shapes. She will attempt to take as many good guys with her ..Lor, Horty, Alonslo, Ernie ..Who will stop her ???

Hmmmmm, Susanlynn....your title sounds....PAINFUL!!!! Or maybe it's just because I'm at the age where I can still dance all night but can barely move the next day!

Judyb~~~Well, I only had a limited number of words to work with. How about ''Mundo de Heridas'' or '' Duelo de Fieras'' ??? or ''Bailando en la Sangre''???? [I kind of like that one.] Ferro~~~I always get such a kick out of your recaps. Thanks for the laughs. I especially enjoyed ''Elfin Lawyer Joel says .''See? See how she is ???'' I guess Zully forgave Omar because she was thinking of the saying ''Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?'' Omar is a pretty patheitic figure. I wonder if we'll ever see Greta or Jacky again.

Ouch. Susanlynn, I think "Bailando en la Masa" (Dancing in the Dough) would be a little less messy. At least if you fall, you land on something cushy.

Julie~~~I was thinking more like ''I have 'dancing in my blood' '' ...the way that Juan has ''fire in his blood.'' No ????

MMM . . .Goya cookies: I recommend the coconut sugar wafers.

Oh. Hmm. I'm not sure how to say "dancing in the blood" the way you mean it. I think "bailando en la sangre" means "dancing in [a pool of] blood."

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it even works as a pun!

Julie~~~We'd need the gerund form. In English , a gerund is a verb form that becomes a noun form by taking the simple form of the verb and adding ''ing. '' I don't know how to create a gerund in Spanish. In fact, I don't know how to create much in Spanish. Maybe, I'll write my personal telenovela title in English. P.S. I liked yours ..short and CATCHY.

I just asked one of my Spanish-speaking coworkers about "dancing in the blood" and he couldn't think of a direct or similar translation. He said he would think about it some more but off the top of his head "vivo para bailar" or "I live to dance" was the closest thing he could think of.

Hombre de Misterio, the training was at the centro médico (the medical center) presumably somewhere in downtown DF.

Cap'n Sylvia, the nuns were wearing gigantic bows because Gina thought it would be cute to put bows on them as their arrival was the "gift" for Lorena.
Someone else made a coment about the cookbook being a personalized/thoughtful gift, but these two nuns raised Lorena and were her accomplices in hijinks. They always covered for her with Mother Superior (according to Lorena in a previous episode) if she got in trouble or scolded by Mother Superior. Pretty nice of Ernesto to go to all that time and trouble to reunite them.

I think "bailando" is the gerund, but just the same as in English when you look at a word that ends in "ing" you're more likely to try it out it as a verb first rather than a noun. (i.e. "Dancing for the Wedding of My Dreams")

So "dancing in [the] blood" doesn't clearly say that you HAVE dancing in your blood. You could BE dancing in [the] blood.

Maybe it would be "Bailando ES en mi sangre" ?

Ferro, you always crack me up—thanks for another terrific recap! Enjoy those Fridays! (I look forward to reading YOUR work instead of recapping myself). There was one loud guffaw I can’t backquote but thank you for teaching me that new concept, Ferro. If you can’t guess which one it was, we’ll go offline. ;-) I can’t imagine where I’ll use it, but at least I’ll KNOW it.

“what’s this – is Santiago hitting on Hort? And is she liking it? He asks to see her and she says that so long as Fafy isn’t the subject of the entire conversation, she’d be glad to. Whoa didn’t see THAT coming.” Yes, there was definitely some anciano flirting happening here. So cute!

“Ernesto shows up at the police station with about 20 people with him, all of the regular cast members, he wants to put the video he took as evidence against Sara.” LOL! They definitely put all the cast members into the final episodes in this one, didn’t they—they remind me of the tourist groups in Hawaii—all shuffling around in a little pack, going everywhere together. “Next stop, 10 minutes, the delegación. Don’t miss the bus, folks, and it’s on to the next fiesta.”

“Did they use the flue network?” ROTFLLLLL!! That definitely was goofy. Makes you wonder what the guys were doing with Sara on the way.

“The guards leave her alone in the cell area with the meanest female guard ever, for the first time ever Sara is actually scared. I like this guard.” LOL! I was hoping we’d get to see this guard work Sara over for a while. Maybe later.

It was awesome to see Zulema and Omar decide to go register Lorena’s Acto de Nacimiento with their surnames and her real birthday! Nothing Sara can do will change that.

“Paula says yes and the whole family looks really happy. Must be Ultimos Capitulos, with nobody looking regretful, worried, or conniving.” LOL! You have the formula down pat.

“Lorena Armendariz de la Cruz” Maybe Lorena Armendariz Ruiz?

Great Valeria descriptions, Ferro. Of course, we would expect no less from you.

Lordy, I thought I’d die laughing at the description of the dueling galáns when they both tried to say goodbye to Lorena without leaving the other alone with her. Whooo-hoo, you’re good at this.

“the most ridiculous thing in the world happens – she is in the back of a cop car, next to a detective who has his gun tucked into his pants, right there next to Sara.” Worse yet, her hands are cuffed in FRONT of her. Stupid, stupid detectives.

Sylvia, the nuns had big bows. Gina told Lorena she decorated the nuns herself.

I loved everyone’s comments!

JudyB, I am sending you lots of good energy. Take care of YOURSELF while you take care of hubby.

Hombre, I think the training was in a “medical center,” as Anon 9:07 said. (As opposed to a neighborhood clinic). But, I could be wrong.

Jeanne

Hello again =)

Ferro, as I figured the recap was a stellar swan song ;) I'll try Tontas for a while and see if it holds me (sometimes they do - usually - and sometimes they don't, like Fuego and Paraiso).

JudyB – sorry your husband cut his meds and didn’t tell you. Men! It’s a good thing they’re cute... Will send you good thoughts from my end. If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine actually agreed to fight in a duel (with tipped swords, but still!) "just for the experience." His poor wife was quite unhappy. What stopped the duel you ask? He found out he had a brain tumor! The surgery and rehab have delayed things, and the other guy got into a real duel in Poland with real Polish cavalry sabers and the cops stopped it (can't imagine why...) so the guy can't fly for a while. Hopefully by the time my friend recoups and the other guy can fly, my buddy will have come to his senses and realized that there are plenty of other things one can do "for the experience."

Schoolmarm: yes, Lore’s new last name is Armendariz Ruiz. I wonder if she'll change it on the show or wait until she has a new married name...

Julie – Paty’s gift was a mortar, so she could grind things.

Thank you for another great recap. I agree that Sara's escape scene was ridiculous. But I guess there isn't enough time left on the show for something more plausible.

Judy, my best wishes to you and your husband. And I like the idea of coming up with titles for our own telenovelas. Mine will be "Tu Vas a Pagar Muy Caro." They seem to say that a lot on telenovelas.

AH thanks for the correction to Armendariz Ruiz. That makes more sense. That was my caption-less watching that screwed me up there, I'm fixing it in the text.

Jeanne, glad to add to your American Dicho collection :) Among men this term is commen, because unfortunately the technique itself is all too common. Sadly.
