Cuidado con el Angel - Monday, Nov. 24 - daggers, anvils and wolves, oh, my!

EPISODE #44:
* Ceci leaves the limo and walks along the street.

* Steffie talks with Padre as they leave the church.

* Ceci in the rectory hall, talks with the cleaning lady who tells her that Padre and a lady just left.

* Isa finds Padre, Steffie and Martirio outside and puts on a dramatic act to get Padre to leave for help. He leaves. Isa then tells Steffie and Martirio about Ceci going inside the church.

* Gabe sits with Lety and tells her that her suspicions are true - that Gus is indeed having an affair, and the lady he is having it with is none other than Viviana. Lety is impactado.

* Padre brings a doctor over to Isa on the sidewalk. Steffie runs off for some medication.

* Amador and Chuy talk at a elegant glass table about the restaurant party tonight. Amador says that she will be the envy of everyone there.

* Video sequence: Chuy riding her bike in the city, Chuy kayaking, Chuy and Cuate painting her room at Pat and Ceci's house, etc.

* Lety is hyperventilating as Gabe tells her about Viv's plan to get her out of the picture and to steal Gus away from Lety. Lety faints. Viv appears in the room, acts really concerned. Gabe doesn't buy the act and tells her to get out now, that Viv's now enemy of the whole family. Viv refuses to leave. Gabe actually has to grab her and throw her out of the room.

* Viv thought bubbles to self in the hallway.

* Gabe returns to check on Lety who has regained consciousness.

* Chuy visits Cande at the laundromat/apartment. Cande is excited; she dances and sings around the apartment when Chuy explains her acting job and the paycheck she will be receiving. Chuy presents Cande with a large bag - surprise gifts! Cande is impactado and smiling as she takes out her new blanket and then her new sparkling skirt with matching skirt. Chuy then explains her own new dress, and the press photo op and the dinner she will be attending tonight.

* Beatris meets with JM and Ed in JM's office. JM explains to Ed that Beatris is pregnant. Beatris says that she will be keeping her baby. JM agrees to treat Beatris; after the session tonight, they will go out to dinner (and JM includes Steffie in this plan).

* In the entry, Viv meets with Gus. Gus tells her to leave the house immediately and not to return. Viv tries to seduce him into a deal. He grimaces.

* As Isa and Steffie sit on the sofa, Ceci tells Pat about her day - all the visits she made today, except for Padre who wasn't at the church. Isa chokes. Steffie receives a phone call - it's JM inviting her to dinner. She excitedly accepts and then happily announces it to Pat, Ceci and Isa.

* Amador and Purita enter the apartment. Cande gives him the lecture about how to treat Chuy. Chuy then comes out - all dressed up with curls in her hair, earrings, the dress and heels. Amador admires her beauty (like a wolf about to drool over dinner).

* Gus yells at Viv and blames her for Lety's health condition. Viv tries to threaten him. He isn't scared - he's more concerned about his wife and won't hesitate to report to the police how Viv tried to kill Lety with the medicine. Viv skulks away.

* Chuy talks about her perfume and lets Amador sniff behind her ear. Cande is disgusted and sits down as Chuy and Amador leave. Alone, Cande and Purita talk, laugh, dance and sing.

* Ed, Beatris and JM wait in the entry for Steffie. Steffie comes out - they leave for the restaurant.

* Viv thought bubbles to herself about Gus' threat and how on earth can she save herself and avoid jail time. (She obviously wore out her welcome.)

* Mayita is lonely and goes to visit Granny in fantasyland. Granny talks about Mayita needs to go to bed. Mayita convinces Granny to sing to her. As Granny sings, Mayita starts to yawn. Granny takes Mayita back to bed. Mayita falls asleep; Granny disappears; Mayita has sweet dreams.

* Amador and Chuy arrive at the restaurant. Chuy clomps her way to the table, and they sit down. Ladies at another table start to gossip about Alejandra Robles - Amador's new discovery. As the press move towards the table, Amador and Chuy have to stand up. Just then, Steffie, JM, Ed and Beatris arrive inside the restaurant. Steffie can't help herself and blurts out to JM about Amador and Chuy being there. Steffie stares daggers in Amador and Chuy's direction. JM is impactado and speechless. JM, Steffie, Ed and Beatris are seated at their table. JM continues to stare at Chuy and Amador posing for photos. Chuy looks over at JM.

* In the local park, Purita and Adrian talk. He's really sad and frustrated by Chuy. Purita tries to cheer him up. Adrian is excited and asks if she talked with Chuy yet about what he asked her to do. She's impactado.

* Steffie, annoyed by JM's staring at Chuy, asks JM if they should go somewhere else. JM says no; he now knows that Chuy is with Amador and is Amador's problem to deal with.

* At the table, opposite side of the room, Amador and Chuy talk about JM being their with his old fiance Steffie. Chuy gets annoyed with Amador over the topic of JM and wants to stand and leave. Amador reminds her of all the press at the restaurant. Chuy sits down and scoffs. JM has been staring at them the entire time.

* Adrian urges Purita to tell him what Chuy said. Purita finally blurts out that Chuy doesn't love him. He's impactado.

* At the hospital, Vicente wheeled himself to Rocio's bedside. She's still bandaged and upset over their accident. They promise to visit each other as often as possible. He's upset and thinks he will never walk again. She tries to cheer him up about his operation and that he will walk again.

* Chuy is uncomfortable at the table. Amador gives her encouragement on her NEW life as an actress.

* Steffie and Beatris talk about Chuy and Amador together. Steffie makes a toast with Ed and Beatris. JM is in his own little thought bubble, as he stares at Chuy and Amador.

* Gus talks with Lety in the bedroom. She's really upset and disgusted. He has to explain to her that the affair with Viv meant nothing to him. He loves her. She doesn't believe him. He gets on his hands and knees to beg, grovel and apologize.

* Flamenco dancers on the stage at the restaurant. Amador and Chuy toast to their successful evening.

* At his table, JM continues to stare at Chuy. Steffie, quite annoyed, asks if he's going to stare at Chuy all night long. JM says no, and asks her to dance. Steffie accepts. JM and Steffie go to the dance floor. Ed talk with Beatris about Amador.

* Chuy stares at JM and Steffie dancing. Amador notices and takes Chuy to the dance floor. The two couples are slow dancing in close proximity to each other; with Chuy and JM staring at each other, Steffie glaring, and Amador grinning like the wolf he is.

* Purita and Adrian continue their talk about Chuy. Purita reveals that Chuy only thinks about Adrian as her brother; that she only loves one man and that isn't Adrian. Adrian is impactado. Purita apologizes for being blunt and leaves.

* JM and Chuy continue to flirt with their eyes as they dance with their respective partners. As Chuy and Amador get too close, JM becomes jealous, stops dancing with Steffie and grabs Chuy to break her away from Amador the wolf king. JM tries to pull her away; she tries to get away from him. JM wants her to leave with him now. Amador comes over to defend his date -- and keep a scandal from ruining the evening.

* Rocio reminds Vicente about their past promises. She feels so depressed over her scars and the accident. Vicente has to console her and leans over to kiss her. She asks him to leave. He says he wants to stay, to comfort her and wait until she falls asleep. She lays down and closes her eyes.

* Lety cries about her hurt and disgust over Gus and Viv's affair. He apologizes to her, says it was his moment of weakness. She's disgusted that he would use his being a man as his excuse. He continues to apologize and wants to make it up to her. Lety listens. He gets on his knees. She believes his sincerity and will give him another chance.

* Amador and JM have a brief staredown; then Amador tactfully allows JM to have some time with Chuy. Chuy asks Amador what to do. Amador says your Alejandra the actress now, so act the part. Amador takes Steffie back to the dance floor, as JM starts to slow dance with Chuy.

ADVANCE: JM had enough and drags Chuy from the restaurant. Outside, She fights and bites his knuckles. JM plants a long, passionate kiss on her lips and she seems to melt.

Good Evening, folks. Great job as alwsys with the recap, Eeyore.

I think Marichuy is very beautiful in this episode with her long black hair done in curls. The red short dress was the right choice compared to the long yellow one that Marichuy like and choose in the first place. Amador, Cande, and Purita approved of the dress and how she looked.
You could see that besides Amador, Juan Miguel was impacted by her. This was more than jealousy. He wanted her like a thirty man drawn to a well.
Estefania(Fakey) is no match for Marichuy. Marichuy blow her away as to how she was dressed. Fakey looks older and older everyday.

Genevieve

Marichuy looked great, but it was hilarious how she "clomped," as you aptly described, in her high heels.

Thanks Eeyore!

Marichuy is very endearing, but I really hated the clomping! It's obvious she didn't have a mother to raise her, and very obviously not my mother who wouldn't let me out of the house in heels until I knew how to walk. My mother would have a field day with Marichuy's slumping and manners in general! I think I'm just on naca overload with this following Guapos. I'm ready for the My Fair Lady transition to move along.

Maybe I'm imagining it because I've been on the lookout for a good match for Eduardo, but I got the impression that there was a vibe between he and Beatris. If so, we again have those pesky ethical issues.

Thanks, Eeyore for your speedy recap.

Marichuy is so pretty and delicate looking, but she's a true tomboy. I find her little salute and how she calls everyone "hombre", even the Padre, endearing, but yep, I'm ready for the "new, improved" version. Just as long as they don't change her character too much.

I did think Ed and Bea might have had a moment there, but then I also thought he was looking at Rocio a certain way not too long ago. And seriously, wouldn't Ed or Juanmi have thought it would be prudent to go someplace else so poor Bea wouldn't have to witness Amadour acting cozy with Mari? Not much of a "distraction" for her.

J.J.

I like Marichuy's gangly tomboy manners--as when she always reaches over to give people a firm handshake. But then I was a big fan of Mili in Guapos. Even at the beginning, though, Mili knew how to dress up--they used to show her shedding her soccer getup and dressing up for Rodeo. Mili was raised until 18 years old by the nuns, but Marichuy left the orphanage and was living on the street. She missed the deportment classes.

P.S. Product placement: Last night I noticed they were playing one of the theme songs from Guapos on the radio, as they have also done with Fuego.

I just wanted to thank all of you ladies who take the time to translate this soap into English. I am taking beginning Spanish and started watching this show and I am lost, cannot understand anything, but hooked!! I had no clue what was going on, looked at the synopsis on the CCEA website and was so confused about what they said was happening and what I was seeing, then realized in my area (Boston) the broadcasts started here in Sept. I look forward to your recaps everyday. Thank you again!

Kate

Eeyore: Thanks for the wonderful recap. I loved this episode.

Vivi, the devil, was unsuccessful in breaking up her "best friend's" marriage - just for the money and the Hell of it;

Purita finally breaks the news to Adrian that Maria de Jesus will never love him - but, it looks as if Purita has fallen for him, and we know love is blind in telenovelas;

Ed, the gynocologist, and JuanMi, the psychiatrist invite a new patient out for dinner - what the H@ll! And, to top it all off, JuanMi invites Estefi to go along. The look of disgust on the Velardes' faces when Estefi said JuanMi had called was worth a thousand words;

And, then there's Mari clumping into the restaurant on a pair of so-called platform shoes that kept her feet in a vertical position. So who wouldn't clump in those - Naomi Campbell, maybe.

Then just feel the heat when JuanMi and Mari spot each other. The jealousy, the desire, the anger were all so visible.

How much longer can we all live on looks of love.

Isn't the woman in scenes with Viviana the actress who played Rita in Pasion ????

Pasofino, I give up on Juanmi & Ed as far as being professional. Who goes out to dinner with their therapist & their GYN? And especially when the therapist is clearly having his own issues throughout the dinner and the GYN was kind of giving you goo-goo eyes when you first met. Not to mention having to share a table with Stef, with her sparkling wit and lovely demeanor. UGh.

Violet, welcome aboard. Don't feel bad about missing the dialoue on this one. A lot of the characters speak fast. Don't even think about trying to understand Marichuy. We're all having trouble with our little heroine's speech.

Thank you for the welcome! Even my daughter (who is also in my Spanish class)said that Mari is speaking way too fast and she has no clue what she is saying.

I wonder also about JM and Ed's careers. They are never in their office or seeing patients! I missed all parts about Ed and his fiancee, I think JM's cousin. I have a lot of reading of your recaps to catch up and finally understand it all. Gracias!

p.s.

Loved the music last night. David Bisbal "Digale" and Miguel Bose "Si tú no vuelves." Also, just discovered that the song playing when Mari held JM from punching A and they were in each other's arms for a few seconds (loved that scene), was sung by Maite, Esta Soledad. Love it!

JJ and others: Right - raise your hand if you've been invited to dinner by your gynecologist and shrink.

I hope the music CD for this program is soon available.

Great recap!

Boy, I guess the acting lessons and training the Wiliam Levy supposedly took are paying off. He has gotten really good at expressing his feelings without having to say anything. In other telenovs I've watched, the leads usually have to talk way too much to get their point accross. I loved how JM expressed his feeling of "oh-no-you-didn't" with just a look and raised brows when MC put her arms around AM. And then the "how-could-you-look" when he just stared at her, holding her arm after he got her unwrapped from AM was really full of pain. I also liked how his expressions changed when he finally got her to dance with him from "I'm-going-to-kill-you-for-being-with-him-instead-of-me-look" to "I-want-to-devour-you-because-you-SMELL-so-good-look" to "I-want-to-kiss-you-all-over-because-you-LOOK-so-good" and finally to "Please-come-back-to-me-look". And towards the end of their dance when the crease on hiw forhead went away, I thought I even caught a "I-might-have-a-chance-to-finally-get-her-back-look". And all without any dialogue! I didn't think I would be when I first started watching this telonov, but I must admit, I'm pretty impressed.

By the way, MC looked delish in this episode, lots of long legs. No wonder JM went apesh1%. Speaking of legs, did you all see how club-like Stef-fakey's legs were? Fat calves and thick ankles. Ugh. Why doesn't she just accept that JM will never look at her the way he looks at MC.
JT

You're right. Words were not needed. Both of their facial expressions said it all. One of the best episodes so far. Oh, to be young and so in love.....!

Like I've said before, I think our hot docs are hobby doctors only. They don't seem overburdened with patients, probably because they have no boundaries! They use their offers of professional help to get dates. Who wants to date her gynecologist? I think dating my dentist is about as far as I'd go down that road.

JTorres, I agree about William Levy's acting. He expresses a lot without having to tell us what he's feeling. However, he still needs dancing lessons. Isn't he Cuban? Okay, it's just a stereotype that Cubans are good dancers, but he dances like American sixth-graders. He looks awkward.

I love how disgusted Ceci and Pat are by everything Stef does or says.

Thank you for the recap Eeyore, and I loved the title!

Welcome Kate/Violet! Please keep commenting – the more, the merrier. I’m betting you know to put on the closed captions, but just on the outside chance you haven’t tried them, push that button!

What I couldn’t believe was the bad behavior of JM last night. As noted, he has taken someone he is supposedly going to have in therapy out to dinner. Also, Ed, who will probably be Bea’s ob-gyn is there too. On top of that, he pays not a shred of attention to the fact that Bea would be traumatized by seeing Amador out with Mari. And, worst of all, when Bea is gone from the table, he tells Stef that Bea is pregnant by Amador.

After all those gaffes, he totally ignores Stef and stares and Mari the whole time. It seems like from the avances he is going to try to drag Mari home, which would leave Stef having to get a ride from Ed or maybe the leftover 3 would have to hail a taxi.

Yeah, I know he’s supposed to be obsessed, but you’d think a professional man would at least try to behave himself and be polite to his date.

Do we think that Gustavo actually suspects Viv of messing with Lety’s meds, or is he just thinking of something he can threaten her with? Anyway, I’m glad she didn’t get the opportunity to off super-nice Lety.

I don't think I have that closed caption button on my remote!

Violet – I’m pretty sure it’s a requirement that all TVs have closed caption capability. We have an HD TV plus cable and it was a complete pain to get the captions going (had to call tech support) and such a complicated process, plus once you had them on, they were on all the shows you watched. It actually involved going turning off the cable box, reprogramming something (I think the HD TV), and turning it back on. I didn’t want to go through that every night, so I watch on our old analog TV (also on cable) that has a simple captions button on the remote.

But it is totally worth any effort to get the captions going. I’m completely at sea without them, since my Spanish is very rudimentary. Also, your Spanish learning will speed up tremendously if you have them on.

Can someone answer this for me? I saw when JM's mother-in-law slapped him..did he throw her out of his house and was she trying to get custody of the daughter. I saw them all at a lawyer's office with Mari also and had no clue what they were saying. Also who is the older gramma that JM's daughter is always with in fantasyland?

Thanks.

Thank you, Maggie, for your technical support! I will definitely look into it.

Julia, I agree on JM's dancing ability or lack thereof. Maybe he can get MC back quicker if he learned how to Waltz or something. I guess learning to dance is not high on his priority list right now. Definitely akward. But the camera moving all over the place helps him out. It gives me a headache tho...

Yeah, I liked Cece's & Pat's look of "our-daughter-is-so-embarassing-look" after Stef-fakey got off the phone with her grotesquely clownish smile. Did you catch Isa's look of "we-might-get-something-out-this-yet-look"? I can't wait to see what eventually happens to her. I hope she ends up living on the street.

I also loved MC's look of "what's-good-for-the-goose-is-good-for-the-gander-look" when she purposely put her arms around AM to get back at JM for letting Stef-fakey hang all over him.

I guess you can all tell I like this show...
JT

Violet, here are some other tips for closed captions. I couldn't live without them.

I have more than one TV and each brand works differently or interacts differently with the cable box. On one, we have a menu on the cable box for captions on or off. For another TV, that doesn't work, but the TV remote has a menu button that leads you through steps to get to captions on or off. Try any of those options, and they should work. Any TV made in the last 20 years has some kind of caption capability.

Just checked, the TV in another room does have captions on the remote, but not on the remote that the cable co gave me for my TV. I will figure it out. It would really be helpful to have the captions. Thanks for your advice.

Violet, Juanmi's mother-in-law (Viviana's mother) was trying to get custody of his daughter, but the judges ruled against her and Juanmi threw her out of the house. She can't stand that he married Mari, whom she considers to be a nothing. The other grandmother is Juanmi's deceased mother. We aren't sure if she is supposed to be a figment of Mayita's imagination or a real ghost or spirt, but she's spot on in her advice.

Maggie, I was also wondering about Gustavo. If he really thinks Viviana has been overdosing Lety, wouldn't he, I don't know, call a doctor or something? And is this the end of that side story? I don't get it.

That's JM's mother, the ghost? Wow, kind of old! She seems sweet though and really loves Mayita.

Violet – JM did throw Onelia out of the house. She didn’t get custody of the little girl because Mari lied to the investigators and said JM had never done anything to her. JM isn’t aware that she lied to cover for him. Also, the investigators decided that one little goof in his distant past wasn’t bad enough to take his child away given his sterling behavior since then.

The grandma in fantasyland seems to be JMs mother. The consensus here seems to be that she is a figment of Mayita’s imagination, but sometimes the grandma makes observations about things Mayita couldn’t know, so there’s an outside chance she may be actually a ghost or spirit or whatever.

Yeah, get those captions! With them, I’m able to understand enough to be a recapper on this show, and without them I’m completely sunk. I’m pretty sure I have the most meager Spanish of all the 8:00 pm recapper team (my credentials: one Spanish Level I class) so you can see how helpful the captions are.

J.J. you had it covered! I didn't check for new posts before posting mine!

Maggie, please don't sell yourself short on your Spanish. Now that you've been watching these shows for a year or two daily, your level has increased exponentially. You're not still back at level 1.

That has been my experience, as I also had very little formal Spanish.

Aw, Nina K, you are very kind! Actually my first novela was Betty La Fea, so it’s probably well over 2 years that I’ve been watching these shows. But it didn’t occur to me to use captions until I watched a number of shows, and boy did they make a difference. Also, having studied French and Italian gave me a little boost.

Managed to get the captions up on one TV, so I will try it out tonight. Thank you all for your help. I'm sure it will make it much more enjoyable watching and actually understanding what I am watching!

Television sets made prior to '93 may not have closed captioning capabilities.

I know the TV where I cannot get the CC's working is only about 7-8 years old. Can't figure out what the problem is though. It lets me set up subtitles in English and then it does nothing!

The second half of the episode really dragged. We have to sit through a whole dinner interspersed with Lety and Gustavo's drama. In the end Nothing really happened! Ceci doesn't meet with the Padre for the millioneth time And this has got to be a record for fewest words in an episode. Marichuy and JuanMi just stare at eachother the whole time.
