QE-Thursday 11/6 - The Hatfields and McCoys vie for Lorena's love and Omar gets nailed by a ricochet biscuit

Fafy and his "old pal" conclude their negotiations to Fafy's favor. Fafy closes one eye while bargaining, thus proving he's a skilled negotiator. Sara gets miffed when Fafy tells the guy to put the business in his name. Sara can barely force herself to kiss Fafy; she smiles through clenched teeth.

Santiago has accosted Snorty and Babs and can't wait to tell them that the great Fafy Cuenca has succumbed to the nets of love. He admits that he, Fafy's most intimate friend, was surprised that Fafy, the hummingbird of five continents, came here to meet his match (con la horma de su zapato=with the pattern of his shoe, not sure why that means to meet one's match, maybe I'm wrong). Update: JudyB helped me out with the translation, it's at the end of the recap. Anyway, Santi starts to tell them about Fafy's new hottie but Snorty shuts him up just as he's about to say Sara's name. Snorty doesn't care about Fafy's intimacies!

The guy tells Fafy to make the check out to two accounts, one being his wife's. Fafy brags that he likes his life to be uncomplicated and uncommitted (unengaged), in that order. Oh boy is he in for a surprise. The guy's wife calls which gives Fafy and opportunity to brag some more to Sara that he really "held the reins" (called the shots) during the difficult negotiation. (Seemed pretty easy to me, maybe the guy couldn't wait to dump the dog of a business.) Fafy advises Sara that business is like the art of war, he with the best strategy wins.

Diana decorates the house for Zulema's arrival. Ern's kids and their nana arrive bearing gifts. This is Gina's big plan for luring Lorena back to Ern I guess, even though they don't know Zulema they're there for Lorena. Diana's happy to see them, maybe she figures Ernesto will eventually come too. Ivan and the nana (can't remember her name) plot to win Lorena back for Ern.

Over at Clinic #23 Lorena is happy for Al that he got his job back. He informs Lorena that now his life's back in order he intends to fight for her. Frankly I would be insulted but she seems cool with it.

Jaime and Maru arrive at the clinic to help bring Zulema home.

Ivan is surprised to see Betina and Toribio arrive at the party. She feels the same way about seeing Ivan. Gina introduces herself to Tori and announces that her tío is Lorena's novio, or was, but he will be again. Betina says that's funny because her uncle Al said the same thing about himself. Tori admits he and Bet don't know Zuly either but they can't wait to meet her. Great, a party full of strangers for Zulema's homecoming. Considering her husband and son are missing maybe that's not a bad thing. Betina tells Diana they brought gifts for Zuly. "We did too!" challenges Gina. Gina rocks. I would definitely want her on my team.

Ivan wants to talk to Betina alone, why didn't she tell him she was coming? She retorts that she never talks to him anymore, he's always with his friend Jorge the latest random story line.

Paula calls Betina to remind her to tell Zuly that she'll show her some beauty creams when Zuly's ready. Paula sees Greta walking and laughing with her new friends. They ignore each other.

Omar thinks about Zuly and Greta. What should he do? (May I suggest obtaining some huevos to start with?)

The household gets ready. When Zuly arrives home she nearly dies of a heart attack as all her guests try to out-shout each other, "Surprise"!! Maybe a surprise party was a bad choice for someone recovering from a coma. Nevertheless Zuly seems happy to see them. Gina hits a home run by being adorable and presenting Zuly with her gift. Lorena gives Gina a big kiss.

Sara whines to Fafy. She tells him that people in their building look down their noses at her and one neighbor thought he was her grandpa. This irks Fafy and he starts spouting off that Fafy Cuenca is no grandpa! She suggests they move into a house, far away from the snoopy neighbors. When he tells her fine, look for a house, she asks him to buy her Hortensia Armendariz' house. She swears it's all she needs to regain her self-esteem. Fafy is slightly suspicious, first Snorty's business and now her house, but anything for his defenseless little kitty.

Zuly is happy to see everyone. She tells them she's sorry but she's rather tired, she needs to lie down. Betina promises her that Paula plans to give her a beauty treatment. Gina pipes up that her gift is better, it's a bear that Zuly can sleep with. (Good gosh darn thing since her cheating husband is shacking up with another dame.) When Betina hears that Ern's kids plan to wait for him to pick them up she quickly tells Tori to call Al to come come and get them. The Hatfields and McCoys wait for their rides.

Zuly loves being back on her own bed. She barely recognizes herself and says she can't wait for Omar to see her new skinny self. Oops. Diana mentions that both Al and Ern seem to have their own team of supporters fighting for them.

Ernesto arrives to pick up his clan and Lorena thanks him for having his kids come over, it made Zulema very happy. Ern flashes his awesome smile and Tori looks like he's sucking a lemon.

Zuly and Diana talk about Ern vs Al. If Lorena marries Ernesto she'll have three kids automatically, if she marries Al they can have their own kids. Zuly pragmatically notes that the battle is fine with her, she'll keep getting gifts while the guys fight over Lorena.

The doorbell rings and Bet is happy that her tío has arrived. Lor thanks him warmly for having Bet and Tori stop by to welcome her mama. Al is all Duh...I didn't even know they came. Ernesto's clan whispers to him that they're winning because their gifts are all over the house. Ern and Al glare at each other.

Santi calls Fafy, he's been waiting three hours for him and he has something to tell him. Fafy gives him the brushoff and hangs up. Santi bounces back and thought bubbles that he'll tell Fafy about seeing Snorty later.

Team Al vs Team Ernesto say goodbye to Lorena. Lor kisses Bet, Tori and hesitantly kisses Al goodby. She does the same with team Ernesto. Am I just wishing or did Ern's kiss seem a little less hesitant, a little more hopeful?

Team Al regroups: Al tells Tori and Bet they're crazy but he loves what they did for him. Tori says Al is 1,000 times the galán that Ernesto is and Bet swears that Lorena looked at Al with love in her eyes. I say it was probably just an eyelash.

Team Ern regroups: Ernesto tells the kids he's cool with what they pulled and not at all mad. The kids are certain they came in first with Lorena and anyway Ernesto is much handsomer than Al.

Diana comments to Lorena that Zuly keeps asking for Omar and Julian. They agree that they hate lying but what else can they do?

Fafy and Sara visit the old Evil Acres where the owner thinks Sara is Fafy's daughter. He blows her mind by offering her 3 million Euros if they can move in tomorrow morning.

Snorty tells Diana and Lor that Licenciado Manriquez (the guy that's hot for Babs) added to the number of guests and it's now up to 400 people. It's their biggest event of the year. Snorty says the guests are all loaded and this could lead to more work. She tells the girls that since they are so busy with work she's thinking that Zulema could use a nurse and she wants to pay for the amazing Nurse Augusta to help out. The girls agree it's a good idea and are touched at Snorty's generosity. Hell, Snorty even gave Ivan some money to buy balloons earlier and I just realized he never went to the store nor did he give Snorty her money back.

Back at Evil Acres Sara kisses Fafy and coos that she also likes the house next door. The owner quickly says OK you win, the house is yours.

Snorty and Zuly have gone to bed. There is a loud banging on the door and a drunk Julian staggers in. Lor and Diana tell him to shut up because his nephew is trying to sleep. Zulema yells from the bedroom and Julian thinks he's hearing things. He promptly passes out.

Lor goes in and calms Zulema down, it was just a bum in the street. Then Lor and Diana, grunting and groaning, drag Julian across the floor to their room. Lor calls Rosy to tell her Julian came home drunk and Rosy gets mad but at least she knows where Julian is.

Omar can't sleep and brushes Greta off when she suggests her own special remedy. She asks if he's thinking of "her", i.e. Zulema, and says if he leaves her she'll kill herself. He's impactado and tells her to think of her son. Greta says the kid has his dad but all she has is Omar. Regreta doesn't know that desperation is not an aphrodisiac. She covers Omar with kisses and he looks shell-shocked.

Lorena lies next to Zuly and tells her how much she loves her, how glad she's home. Zuly can't believe she was asleep for so long. She says she wants to see Julian and Lor's papa.

Back at the apartment Sara's a little miffed that Fafy didn't purchase the house in her name. He said it's no big deal, he's just used to being in control. Santiago calls again and Fafy wearily asks What now? Santi wants to meet Fafy for dinner. Fafy doesn't want to but Sara urges him so she can postpone the inevitable boinkage. Fafy tells Santi to pick up something to-go and charge it to Fafy's account, then he tells Sara that when they're done eating they'll treat themselves like royalty again. I think he's talking about a roll in the hay because Sara rolls her eyes.

Team Al goes out to dinner to celebrate. Uh oh, Santi shows up at the same and apparently only restaurant in town and is thrilled to see Tori, Tori's not so thrilled. He keeps trying to get rid of Santi but Santi, who wants to stay for champagne, keeps blabbing about Fafy and his new bride who is in her twenties, her name is Sara. Ouch, Tori doesn't like that name. He physically grabs Santi and pushes him away. Tori tells Al he had to, otherwise all the little toad would talk about is Fafy Cuenca, Fafy Cuenca. They all laugh at the name.

The next a.m. Sara plots as Fafy sleeps. She has to figure out a way to inherit the stuff that's in Fafy's name!

Meanwhile Lor and Diana wake up Julian and scold him because he hasn't been home in days. Lorena the great communicator finally gets around to telling him that mami woke out of her coma and came home yesterday. He has the nerve to ask them why they didn't tell him yesterday. Lorena, backing away from his borracho breath, reminds him he's been AWOL for a while.

Snorty visits Zuly and tells her she's glad to see her, can they talk? She would like to hire her ex nurse Augusta to come and help care for Zulema.

Julian busts in and has a tearful, happy reunion with his mami. He snorts and slobbers all over her nightgown.

Greta and Omar have breakfast. She talks with her mouth full. I hate that. She wants to go on a vacation. He says now isn't a good time, if she wants to go go alone. Also, he loathes it when she refers to his kids as "ex-family". Can't she remember he still has three children? She says in reality he only has one daughter, the others aren't his, and all three are ingrates. Omar gets pissed and says he's going to work. Greta asks, are you really going to work or somewhere else? She throws biscuits at him as he leaves. They don't bounce back so I assume they're not rubber biscuits.

Zuly asks Julian what about his trip? He admits his sisters were trying to protect her because he's been committing many stupidities. She begs him to conduct himself well for her and for himself. He promises (again) not another drop of alcohol. She asks the girls why did they lie and say Julian was on a trip, are they lying about dad too? Lorena and Diana are commercial impactadas.

Zuly keeps asking, Why isn't Omar here? Lor lies and says dad's on a work trip. Zuly insists she wants to see Omar face to face, are they hiding something from her? She can tell Lorena's lying! Lor and Diana lie some more and finally Julian jumps in and swears that last night was the last time he misbehaves. He hugs Zulema who still looks panicked.

Al fixes Valeria's stove. They hug and Val says she's glad they're together again, er...at the clinic. Her little girl runs in, clearly she and Al adore each other. Val watches approvingly.

Santi tells Fafy he can't believe Fafy ceded to Sara's wishes and bought her a business and a house in one day. Fafy says he bought them for Sara but they don't belong to her, big difference. He says she was ticked off because the business isn't in her name so he had to buy her a house to placate her and that's not in her name either, ha ha. He smirks at Santi like he's some big shot.

While the old dudes snicker Sara sneaks in a visit to Bruno of the oiled chest. She tells him about Fafy's purchases, neither of which are in her name. This amuses Bruto who comments she's right back where she started. Not exactly, she smiles, she's discovered how to blackmail Fafy. She tells Bruto to stand by because she's going to need him any moment. Bruto glares at her shapely behind as she leaves. He may not be thrilled about her messing up his sweet situation.

Santi keeps busting Fafy's chops about getting "trapped" by Sara. Fafy tries to play it cool like guys do in front of their friends when they know they're hopelessly kitty-whipped and don't want to admit it. Santi (who is surely jealous) tells Fafy to fight to maintain his legendary status as the Casanova of the 20th century. Maybe that's Fafy's problem, it's now the 21st century. Sara serves Fafi a tall glass of juice but Fafy wants his cuernitos too! Santi is ready to dash right out to pick up some chocolate-filled cuernitos (basically chocolate croissants I think) and tells Sara to make him coffee while he's gone. This doesn't sit well with her.

Ern has lunch with Jimena and tells her about his and Al's family both showing up to Zulema's homecoming. Who should walk in to the one cafe in the DF but the ubiquitous Santiago. He recognizes Ernesto the famous chef, he's Ern's most fervent admirer. He asks about Ern's cute sidekick Lorena de la Cruz, any relation to Sara de la Cruz? Ern is impactado and curious about Sara. Santi says she's the novia of Fafy Cuenca. What, Ern's never heard of Fafy Cuenca? Why he's the playboy of the western world, blah blah blah. He's surprised that Ernesto, being a famous chef and all, hasn't crossed paths with Fafy who travels in the highest circles. (Ern and Jimena roll their eyes.) Santi blabs on that Fafy is a millionaire and he just purchased a food business that used to be Armendariz. He suggests that Ernesto should work for Fafy Cuenca!

Tomorrow: Well well, it looks like Fafy introduces the new chef to Sara and it's none other than Chef Hawt.

Con la horma de su zapato = He's met his match, he's met his soul-mate (Lit. with the pattern of the show, as in the shoe fits the shoe print)

Love the title and the reference to Bruno's oiled chest, Sylvia. You ARE paying attention.

I was out last night and haven't watched the recording...not sure if I can take any more of Omar's diddling and Julian's drunkenness but we'll see.

Even though Sara is bad, bad, bad, it's fun to watch her manipulate Fafy. "horma de su zapato" means "match" in the sense of love match I believe. When you meet the "horma de su zapato" it's your soul-mate so to speak. Weird expression but there it is.

Always look forward to reading your wry take on things, Miss Sylvia!

Cap'n Sylvia: Great title and a perfect recap. "Am I just wishing or did Ern's kiss seem a little less hesitant, a little more hopeful?" It did, it did!

"Tori says Al is 1,000 times the galán that Ernesto is and Bet swears that Lorena looked at Al with love in her eyes. I say it was probably just an eyelash." It was, it was!

The homecoming had some sweet and bittersweet moments. Gina captivated everyone (how could she not?) I know Julian's been a jerk but I thought his reunion with Zulema was very touching.

There's no fool like an old fool. Hope Sara takes Fafy for all he's worth. (Only to lose it all when she's sent to prison of course). Diana in MA.

Thanks JudyB. I get "horma de su zapato" now, thanks. Maybe it's both soul-mate and sole-mate. Ouch, sorry. The Regreta-Omar scenes aren't so bad, it's becoming clear to me that he's not very happy with Regreta even if Zuly hadn't come out of her coma. I think the price he had to pay to be with her was too great (giving up the "three ingrates") and he's figuring out it wasn't a good trade. Poor Regreta is doing everything wrong, she's clingy, demanding, jealous, accusing, in short she's toast.

Thanks Diana, I KNEW Lor gave Ernesto a better kiss!

The Sara-Fafy-Santiago scenes are wonderful but my favorite scene from last night was when Diana and Lorena were dragging Julian to their room. He looked REALLY heavy and those two petite women were really struggling to drag his dead weight.

Cap'n Sylvia~~~No time for me to read your recap, but as soon as I saw the title...I knew that you were the author. I like the way your mind moves , girl. P.S. Regreta is obviously NOT a morning person. ~~~Susanlynn, late for her date with destiny

Thanks so much for your recap Sylvia.

Regreta is going from bad to worse. While Omar the snake deserves it, you can tell he is getting sick of Regreta. As Sylvia noted, Omar seemed to tried of her before Zulema awoke so it only goes down hill from here. And her threat to kill herself....I thought of Julie's comment from yesterday about the wrongness of having a love triangle and killing off one person. I agree its a cheap trick but in Regreta's case, let the writers be cheap.

I really hope Lorena picks Ern soon. Though I'm not a fan of Dr. Dull for Lorena, Val deserves a man who loves her not someone to settle to her as a rebound.

You're right, Karen - I'd be okay with Regreta dying. It wouldn't be a cheat in this case. More like trash removal.

Wonder what Sara's blackmail plan is? I would have thought it'd be easier for her to simply have the forger fix up the ownership deeds. This ties her directly to the forger, and then the dominoes can begin to fall.

Funny that Santi went running for the cuernitos. They're very high in fat. Oh... maybe that's Sara's plan. She can pretend to play the role of guardian angel, serving Fafy healthy things, and let Santi be the bad devil who sucks up by providing the pastry. Between his clogged arteries and his unnamed respiratory problem (or maybe they're related), Fafy will die and Sara will appear blameless.

Once again, I think Sara's stretching her web a little too thin. The first time, she had too many evil alliances (Chalo, Bruno, Arturo), and they were all at cross purposes, especially since she couldn't give up her obsession with Alonso.

This time, she's trying to get the business, the house, and Fafy's money. Once again, her evil alliances (Fafy and Bruno) are not really on her side, and all are at cross purposes. If one thing goes wrong, the whole scheme comes unravelled. I can't wait!

Soul-mate and sole-mate...very cute Sylvia. I did look it up and while it has the meaning of soul-mate...I've been married 20 years, I met the "horma de mi zapato"...it can also mean "meet my match" in the sense of someone who can successfully handle you...and Santiago could be saying both things. A wonderfully ambivalent expression it turns out to be.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that your initial instinct for "met his match" was right on, Sylvia. I really didn't need to add the other interpretation.

Yes you did JudyB because we are here to learn. Knowing both interpetations makes it twice as meaningful. When I met my "horma de mi zapato" I met my soul-mate and I met my match. As you point out they are not mutually exclusive. What a great saying!

Mike and I got to meet Sylvia today - had coffee and talked for over an hour. What a great time! Thanks, Sylvia for making the time for us.

And, a terrific title to the recap. As a West Virginian, the Hatfields and McCoys was part of our history lessons.

I am just sitting here smiling thinking of how Emilia and Mike and Sylvia got together for coffee. Virtual friendships are great but how wonderful that sometimes you can actually connect in person! Finally saw Thursday's episode (taking a break after raking in the rain...ugh!)and I'm definitely feeling hopeful for Ernesto and Lorena...she has a special zing when he's around....but Friday's episode...don't like the new Jimena line there!

It was great to connect with Mike and Emilia. They are even more fun in person than they sound in their comments. We packed a lot of conversation into our short visit.

I haven't watched Friday's episode yet but it sounds like I'd better take a look. Even though we have only a few weeks left there's still lots of time for mayhem. Darn!

Thanks, Sylvia for the clever recap. Gee, Fafy and his entourage of one [Santi] are really a pair of old dudes reliving their glory days [Cue The Boss, please]. It's such a pleasure to see Sara's distaste at boinking old Fluffy. HAHAHA And I think that Lorena will end up with Ernie because they are really setting Val up to be with Slow. [He fixed her stove. Now, if Val could only ignite Slow's pilot light, all systems would be ready for cooking.] Regreta is slipping rapidly down a slippery slope into shrewishness. Omar does not deserve Zully , but he seems to be headed away from The Shrew and back to hearth and home. Julian has got to grow up and stop drnking and sobbing. Mommy's home...time to be a big boy ..return to your wifey and find a job. You no longer have the excuse of a mommy in a coma to justify your weakness. I love little Gina. What a terrific little actress. I smile every time her grinnimg little face lights up the screen. What a cutiepie. I like this novela. The writing is good , and the plot keeps moving along. I also love our recappers who all do a smashing job . Thanks , everyone for all your time and effort. I really appreciate everyone's hard work . P.S. So great that Sylvia, Mike, and Emilia were able to meet. I still frequent a forum for Highlander the TV Series , and a few years ago , I was able to meet some of the folks I had come to know online. It was so much fun to put a face to their words.

Awesome as always Capn'. Thanks for the Blues Brothers clip. Every couple of years, I just have a need to watch the movie.

Ferro, thanks for the crackers info. I had a cousin who was born between Christmas and New Years. The down side is that some of the presents were less than stellar. The upside is that people always remembered it, and that after he went off to college, he was always able to be home on his birthday. Ours is staying away from holidays, but landing right around the anniversary!

I was shocked to find that Jimena's been putting on an act. Now it all makes sense...except for the time that she told Ern to go after Lore because she and Slow were doomed. I wanted to wring her neck after she bad-mouthed Lore to the kids. Interesting this didn't appear until we found her connection with Regreta...

So Santiago was finally good for something! I really hope Slow doesn't move in on Lore while Ern is playing avenging Angel for Snorty and family though.

Margarita...let me join in the congratulations. I was always very tired during the first trimester but after that felt better than I ever had in all my life. If I could, I'd be somewhere between 4 and 9 months pregnant eternally! The most wonderful feeling in the world for me...more energy, more bliss, more everything.

Everyone's experience of pregnancy and labor is different but I hope your pregnancy will be like mine were. I'd give anything to feel that way again.

Thanks for the good wishes JudyB et al ;)

I am seriously looking forward to that 2nd trimester energy boost I hear so much about. These days between the exhaustion and the nausea I can't seem to get a thing done! Gotta get the energy somehow 'cause the guest room and future nursery are not going to de-clutter themselves ;)

Jimena sure fooled me. I had thought she was okay, but I got a bad feeling when I saw that she and Greta were friends.

And when she wiped that cute smile off of Gina's little face, I decided that Jimena's going to have to go into the trash compactor too.
