Fuego, Monday 12/29 (#165): I guess Coyote says that to all the girls

Reruns from Friday: Raquel says she hopes they can be a family again, but doesn't sound so hopeful. Fatima tells Abuelo and Santa she's not sure what Gabi and Darth Ricardo were arguing about that led to gunplay, and Abuelo confides to Santa that he's sure Gabi knows Ricardo killed Juan's parents. Sofía confronts Ricardo about the murder.

Rigo tells Juan that he can't make babies. Juan mysteriously offers to take him someplace tomorrow that will cheer him up.

Go-away-and-don't-come-back #1: "Where did you come up with the idea that I had anything to do with the deaths of the Reyes' parents?" Darth Ricardo asks Sofía. Sofi says he knows more about that than she does, but tells him to get off of her property. He says she's too late; Gabi already kicked them out. They'll leave. He warns, though, that Sofía will pay for what she did to Ruth when they were kids. "Her pain is mine, so prepare yourself, girl - you're going to get what you deserve. Now let me finish packing." She defiantly promises to come back early tomorrow and make sure they're gone. Thunder crackles ominously.

Maria Caridad is eating what's left of the cake with Tio, Quintina, and Franco. MC is obviously hot for Tio, and Franco teases him about needing a woman. MC indicates her interest in marriage. The other Maria (Esperanza? Fe?) shows up with a cake of her own. The two sisters are mutually surprised to see one another - one of them had told the other she was going to a rosary service, the other was supposed to be visiting at the old folks' home. No, no, she didn't lie - she was just going to drop off this cake for Oscar. (Franco and Q know better, and leave so that Tio will have some privacy with the ladies.) Tio offers them some hot chocolate. Maria #2 asks him to sing them a song. I still can't tell from the look on his face whether he finds the sisters delightful, repulsive, or merely pitiful.

Next morning, Juan takes Rigo to the orphanage, which has been restocked with a new batch of children. The two men hold the babies and get squirted with baby bottles. Juan tells Rigo to see how easy it is to love a child that isn't of his own blood.

Oscar looks at a fresh-looking photo of his parents and has a flashback to when Jimena tried to feed him like a baby and he lost his temper. (Does he used to eat with his legs, or is there some other reason she thinks he can't feed himself?) He regrets treating her and Juan and others as if what happened to him is their fault... then Jimena comes in, dressed to inspire good health, and offers to shave his dimples. He wants to do it himself. Jimena says she just wants to help him. He scolds her for tormenting him and not bringing him a mirror. He orders her out of the room. He also tells her not to dress so provocatively while she lives with his brothers and his uncle (he doesn't mention the pubescent boy). Jimena leaves, looking like a wounded little puppy. Oscar cries and does not shave. Maybe he should let Franco borrow his brush and mug and razor.

At Crap From Afar (no customers in sight), Franco and Sarita discuss how sad it is for Oscar and Jimena. Sarita says that Oscar should learn from Abuelo's example - he didn't let his disability hold him back, and now he's remarrying. Franco hopes that Oscar will be able to walk again soon, hopefully before Jimena's patience runs out.

Sarita also tells Franco that Ruth found out about Eva being her mother. She didn't take it well, and Ricardo found out too, confronted Gabi, that didn't go well either. Franco wonders if they'll ever be able to be happy. They kiss.

Sofía goes back to the cottage to kick the Uribes out. They're all dressed in their gettin'-outta-Dodge clothes. Gabi shows up and says they're not leaving. Sofi says oh yes they are, because she's the boss of this place and she said so. Gabi tells Sofi she's not the boss of anything, because the time limit (plazo) on Bernardo's will has expired without Sofía proving that one of those girls is her child, so Gabi gets all of her stuff back and the Uribes can stay at HER hacienda whether Sofi likes it or not. She mocks Sofi for being so kindhearted as to put the girls ahead of her fortune.

Raquel looks stricken. Ruth congratulates Gabi on her victory. Gabi grins back at her with unrealized maternal pride.

Juan is at home now and he and Oscar are trying to feed one of the baby Marias, I believe this is Maria Libia, who clearly doesn't want to be fed by these gigantic loud men. Tio thinks it's funny, so Juan tells him to stop laughing and help out. Tio is like, um no, I'm a bachelor, you guys are the daddies, you have to do it. The child is not tempted by hairy pastries, either.

Go-away-and-don't-come-back #2: For unexplained reasons, Sofi is alone in Gabi's room, looking at a photo of the Robles couple that looks as though it came out of an inkjet printer ten minutes ago rather than a Fotomat 20+ years ago. She wonders why her mother is protecting Ricardo, and if she should keep quiet or tell Juan. She prays for enlightenment, but all she gets is a visit from her crummy mom who refuses to explain why she's been keeping a photo of Juan's parents. Gabi threatens that if Sofi doesn't behave, Sofi, her sisters, and her children will all pay the consequences. Also, get out of her room and don't come back without permission.

Oscar angrily slaps his still-numb legs and asks why Jesus sent him this misfortune. "If you're so powerful, lift me up from here!" (indicating his wheelchair). He looks at the photo of his parents again and cries.

Darth Ricardo tells Ruth he's staying at the hacienda to keep his eye on all their awful enemies - Sofía, Gabriela, and Feonando. He's noticed that Gabi is impressed with Ruth, and maybe they can use that to their advantage.

Ruth asks if he still loves her now that she's not his daughter. He says yes, she's still his princesa, his masterpiece; they're so much alike. She's nothing like Bernardo, much less that idiot Eva. She's strong, like himself, and her manner is like Gabi's. Anyone would say that they were her real parents!

Raquel tells Gabi what Gabi must have some deep dark reason for wanting to keep them at the hacienda. Gabi plays innocent. Raquel tells her to stop faking - Gabi's always had the advantage over her, but soon all of Gabi's blows will come back to haunt her.

Sofi and Sarita visit with Abuelo and Santa. Sofi tells them she tried to get rid of the Uribes, but Mom let them stay. Abuelo is nervous and doesn't want Ricardo around. He declines right now to say what his one big reason for that is, but promises to tell Sofía later. Sarita shows no curiosity about this (she would make a great telenovela character... oh right) and wants to plan the wedding. Santa says they're all set to catch a plane in Puebla right after the wedding for their honeymoon. Abuelo says they'll travel the world, but if they need him he'll be there right away. (How will they contact him? Is there an Abuelo-beacon?) Sofía says life is giving him a second chance with a lovely woman and they'll be happy.

Abuelo privately tells Santa he's worried about them. But he's got a big surprise for Gabi before he leaves. She won't see it coming!

Gabi tells Feo she let the Uribes stay and that Bern's will is voided because Sofi wouldn't prove that she has a child. Therefore she is again the owner of the majority of the Elizondo fortune. (Remember, Abuelo still has 20%.) I still think there are way too many holes in this storyline about the will, not to mention the sheer insanity of Bernardo imposing such a dubious condition on Sofía when he couldn't even have known whether she was fertile or not. Anyway. Feo congratulates his dear wife on getting everything back. He thought-bubbles that he'll have to get Gabi to reinstate him as her heir. Then he'll rid himself of her forever.

Rigo tells Juan (over the screams of the little Maria) that he and Eugenia have decided to adopt a child.

Go-away-and-don't-come-back #3: Oscar is still clutching that photo of his parents when Pablito enters without knocking. He offers to show him the little box he found in his room where he will hide all of his secrets. Oscar tells him he's not interested, get out. He coldly calls the boy "Pablo" and tells him not to come in without permission. Pablito replies, "yes, Papa." Ouch!

Raquel warns herself that Gabi is probably plotting against her right now. Coyote drives up, immediately improving the episode. He gazes intently into her eyes, kisses her hand, says "I didn't mean to startle you, but I saw you looking so distressed. It pained me and I came over to see if I can help you somehow."

Well, darn. I guess he says that to all the girls!

Darth Ricardo tells Ruth that Raquel inherited a lot of money - a fortune that he helped build. (I wonder if one of the ways he helped to build her inheritance was by killing her nephews' parents?) She still owns all of it because they married with "separate goods." If Raquel knew that, she'd kick them both to the curb.

I'm not sure what "separate goods" (bienes separados) refers to, I don't think we have something this in the US unless he means that he signed a prenup with Raquel's father that Raquel never was told about? Anyway, that explains why he has no clue about all the money she's given to Feo.

Ricardo wants all of Raquel's stuff. He asks if Ruth would mind helping him with that. First, he needs to get those papers that he hid in that box with the false bottom at the Reyes' house. (It doesn't look big enough to have much more than two or three folded pages hidden away, false bottom or not.) Ruth would love to help.

Eva and Rosendo observe Raquel and Coyote from afar and wonder what's going on.

Coyote tells reluctant Raquel that he knows all that happens around town, and she's yet another victim of Ricardo Uribe and Gabriela Acevedo. He's Raquel's friend, and she can count on him should the need ever arise. Hand-kiss, "con permiso," you know the drill.

Juan catches Pablito crying over Oscar's rejection of his offer to share his cofre de secretos. (Laughing, Juan notes that Pablito wouldn't show it to him.) Juan says it's too bad the way Oscar is treating people, but they need to be patient and understanding. Pablito says he's not crying for himself, but for Oscar and his suffering. Juan says don't worry, they'll stay united, Reyes siempre juntos. Juan wants to know what's in the box. Pablito won't say!

Sarita tells Jimena about Gabi regaining control of the hacienda. She reminds Jimena that the three sisters will be maids of honor at Abuelo's wedding and offers moral support to Jimena. Jimena says she wants Oscar to get his happiness back.

Sofía and Abuelo have their follow-up talk as promised. Abuelo says Ricardo killed Juan's parents, which Sofi already heard from her mother. She promises to let Juan know if they're in danger, but she's worried how he'll react to the news. Abuelo thinks they shouldn't tell him. She tells Abuelo not to worry about anything. She'll take care of everything. He says he's not just worried over Ricardo, but Feo too.

Feo tells Gabi the old folks set a trap for him and he fell into it, but they'll pay. Gabi says why bother - they'll get married and then they'll be rid of them anyway.

Feo says Padre Tadeo managed to get his marriage to Sofía annulled, so now Gabi's beloved daughter and that stupid baker can get married in a church. (Eavesdropping Ruth vows that it won't happen.)

Juan hops the balcony to Sofía's room and they update one another on things, like Maria Jose is getting better, Oscar is still disconsolate, and Gabi owns the hacienda. Juan still agrees with the decision not to find out which child is "the one." He wants her to move herself and the kids into his hacienda. She says they're going to be soooooo happy. Kiss kiss kiss and they profess their undying love. Then to bed! Slightly longer version here, not much more to see.

Ruth tells herself that if Juan can't be hers he can't be anyone's, least of all Sofía's. She won't allow their wedding. Feo comes along and asks her to find out who Gabi's heir is, since she's Gabi's dear friend and all. Abuelo shows up in what I assume is a general's uniform, wanting to know why Feo wants to know this and what he's planning.

Meanwhile, the sisters are at Crap From Afar helping Santita (in pink) prepare for the wedding. (Santa didn't want to deal with Gabi or Feo at the house on her happy day.) The sisters are wearing baby blue. It's not unflattering, but in my opinion all of them would look better in one of the basic crayon colors. Sarita has matching glasses. (She must have some kind of interchangable glasses-and-frames kit.)

Feo cusses Abuelo out for meddling. Abuelo says Feo's the most selfish person he's ever met and Gabi will pay dearly for having married a snake like him. Feo says they just made up, so she's not going to believe anything Abuelo says. She totally believes in Feo's love and that he will protect her. Abuelo promises to disabuse Gabi of this misconception. Feo messes with the General's uniform and holds his wheelchair. Ruth looks worried. Abuelo tells her that he lieks her and thinks she's not a bad person inside, so she needs to watch out for Feo. He's a traitor and a backstabber and she shouldn't trust him for anything.

Ruth tells Feo to let Abuelo go. Abuelo leaves, but makes a crack about Feo's nightmares about Rosario.

Feo whispers to Ruth not to interfere and chases Abuelo to the elevator. He ties both ends of Abuelo's necktie to the safety gate and pushes the button to send it down. (Amazing, how many elevators have a control on the outside that lets you send the elevator away from your floor?) Abuelo chokes as the elevator descends slightly. Feo stops the elevator, but doesn't bring it back up. "How does it feel? How does it feel?" he taunts.

Ruth watches as Abuelo struggles to free himself from the tightened noose. He tells himself to be calm, and yells for Rosendo to help him.

Mexico airdate: 5 de septiembre
Next time: Gabi tells Raquel that Darth Uribe is Ruth Skywalker's father, and only she will be able to bring balance to the Force. Raquel tells Gabi about the baby swap. Meanwhile, Santa wonders why her groom is late to church. Will the wedding bells be drowned out by clanging anvils?

Julie: Thanks for the speedy, snarky recap.

And, Sofia tells Darth Ric to hit the bricks. He promises that she hasn't seen the last of him - out pop his eyes, and he reminds her that she hurt his baby when they were younguns. Mister silent move piano player, play us some villain music while Darth Ricky twirls his moustache. Yikes.

I was hoping Oscar would knock the box out of Pablito's hands so that it would fall apart when it hit the floor and the important papers would be revealed. I'm betting on a treasure map.

Julie, yes, we do have community property states (e.g., Louisiana) where a couple about to marry can declare that they will retain their own property and maintain separate estates during the marriage. It's a little more complicated that that, but anyway, space is limited here and who cares anyway.

Regards.

Thank you Julie for the great recrap. Was it just me or did it sound like multiple horses peeing on a flat rock? I couldn't even hear what the beady eyed weasel was saying.

How convenient that they have a Babies-r-Us in Mexiloon. Pick a baby and get a nun free! What a deal. :)

I'm thinking that Root is going to come to Augie's rescue. She may be a bitch, but she isn't a murderer's accomplice, and i don't think that even these airheaded writers would do don Augus in this way. I hope not anyway. Of course, these are the same writers that have Oscar lamenting the way that he is treating everyone, then show him doing it all over again in the next instant. But really, guys (writers), let Oscar do the things for himself that he is capable of (shaving, feeding, etc.), and have Juimena helping him with the stuff that he can't...I still do not see why Sofia would not do an ID on the babies, it just makes NO SENSE...oops, forgot, this is Mexidoon, where plot twists are more important than realism...

Pasofino - The separate estates you describe makes sense to me, but you say the couple has to declare it. What I don't get is that Ricardo clearly said that Raquel didn't know about it. How is that possible? Maybe they married in a jurisdiction where separate estates is the default unless you explicitly declare otherwise?

Now I understand why Raq said (many full moons ago) that Ricardo was so keen to marry off his nephews to the Elizondo girls. He must have seen that as a way to get his hands on the Elizondo money. I guess growing Raquel's inheritance has been his lifelong hobby.

Ricardo does have the look of a guy who ties damsels to railroad tracks, doesn't he?

I really enjoyed this episode.

I have a feeling something bad is going to happen to Raquel... Although if Darth can't touch Raquel's money what would be the purpose to have Raquel whacked?

At one time, I thought it was a great idea, or at least a cute one, not to identify "the one." But after Maria Jose's health crisis it seems really foolish. Now that she's ruled out, it's just a matter of time before something comes up with MG or ML, and they'll find out then anyway. Wouldn't it be preferable to get this news while sitting down opening an envelope in your living room, rather than while panicking in the ER?

Regardless, Sofia still didn't have to lose the case. She could have had the girls tested and given the results to someone she trusts (Abuelo), without looking at them herself. Then Abuelo could show the results to Gabi's lawyer.

Connie, I am thinking that Darth can inherit Raquel's money when she dies, as long as her will doesn't say otherwise. He just can't touch any of it while she's alive.

There might be some way to swindle it away from her, like trick her into cluelessly signing it over the way Feo did with Abuelo. Since she thinks he already has access to the money, she'll never know the difference!

I don't understand why Abuelo keeps taunting Feo. He knows how dangerous Feo is And with Abuelo in a wheelchair, he cannot defend himself against Feo.
Why do these people always go to their enemies and anounce what they are going to do to them.
By the way great recap Julie.

Does anyone have an idea what Coyote's angle is with Raquel?

Julie, a very good recap. Will Rico's baby come with it's own private-duty nun? I thought Ruth looked good in her denim and chambray outfit and I really like the sultry Ruth theme music. It's good to see that the revelation of Ruth's putative lineage did not damage the warm father daughter relationship between her and Ricardo. Nice to see a bit of Coyote last night. He really does seem to have a complex elegance. Carlostahed

I think Coyote is sincere in wanting to help Raquel. He obviously doesn't have much use for Ricardo, else he would have dropped in to say hello by now.

But I'm still stymied over Coyote's intentions toward Gabriela! Last night, he told Raquel that Gabi is one of the bad guys, along with Ricardo. (He didn't mention Feo.) Has Coyote known that Gabi's a bad guy all along?

If so, then he's just been using Gabi to get to Feo. But maybe he only just recently figured out that she's an enemy too. It will be interesting to see how he reacts the next time he sees her.

In any case, we now know that it's not special when he kisses ladies' hands and speaks charmingly to them. He's not smitten with them. Maybe he's still up for grabs!

Was anybody else completely horrified by the abuelo choking scene? I could barely stand to watch it. Maybe I'm selective with my violence - I don't have the same reaction with beatings and rapes, I mean it's not like I enjoy those scenes either, but this scene with Abuelo was just sick!

"a photo of the Robles couple that looks as though it came out of an inkjet printer ten minutes ago rather than a Fotomat 20+ years ago" LOL! Couldn't quite put my finger on it at the time....
=======

Melissa: Yeah, the choking scene got pretty gruesome and for some reason hit me as pretty realistice compared to the other violent scenes, with the exception of when Feo beat the hell out of Franco.
==========

Dorado dave: My best guess is that since Augie is really Root's abuelo, the telenovela gods wouldn't dare let her be a willing accessory to his murder or torture.

Julie: I wonder what kind of minor nuclear explosion Darth Rico and El Jefe meeting up with each other might set off. I don't know how long El Jefe was sentenced for his loan sharking and numbers running, but I'm wondering if he gets out on a pardon to do some real damage to the man who killed his sister and BIL and stole his nephews' inheritance.
=========

As for Coyote and Raqui, I was wondering if he's really out to get the goods on Gabi, Feo and Rico, he might be trying to find a weak link in the chain, the most abused and used and ready to crack.

Julie: If memory serves, in one episode a few weeks ago Coyote thought-bubbled that he could get a lot of info out of Raquel. Does anyone else remember this? Before that I also wondered about his intentions toward her but obviously he is using her to get to the "real bad guys".

Melissa, I also thought the choking scene was especially gruesome. I think we have become hardened to beatings/rapings etc. that seem to be commonplace on tv now, but to watch an old man (especially one we like) hanging to death in an elevator is something most of us haven't even imagined. If he were to die this way, I think I would stop watching this TN. Ya gotta draw the line somewhere. And the baby thing really bothers me too. Juan and Sofi's baby could be living with some wealthy family in Mexico City. I hope positive ID comes before the end so I can rest easy!
Jenna

I did not enjoy the Abuelo-abuse at all, but I agree with Lola that it was totally foolish of him to taunt Feo in the first place.

Fuego in AZ: "If memory serves, in one episode a few weeks ago Coyote thought-bubbled that he could get a lot of info out of Raquel. Does anyone else remember this?"

I think that was actually when he met Ruth. He said something to himself about killing two birds with one stone. But there was no follow-up. Like Jardinera said, if Coyote is looking someone who's ready to crack, Raquel is the weakest link.

Not to mention that there's a gigantic bullseye on the back of her head. (Perhaps that's why she wears the big wig.)

Jenna: ITA with you that seeing a character that we really like choking to death is part of the reason we are uncomfortable, as well as the fact that so much violence is on t.v. now that rapes and beatings are "ho-hum". But maybe seeing someone choke up close causes a group reaction like yawning. Dunno.

Julie - thank you for the fun, snarky recrap. Loved your "Ruth Skywalker" reference, too. LOL

I think Coyote is 'playing' Gabi and knows that Raquel is harmless.

I'm going to look for some red jello now ...

doris

Julie: I noticed that wig changes colors like a synthetic opal --it suddenly looked more orange-ish last night in the scene with Coyote since she had on an orange top.

I agree about the separate estates. Raquel has her own money and properties, inheritance. Ricardo has his own wealth plus stolen wealth....

Sofia is just thinking sentimentally or whatever by not wanting to find out who the real child is. In her pwn mind and twisted reasoning, not finding out will allow juan and her to love all three kids equally.

It was funny seeing the scene with the guys passing around anvil head baby to be changed. Rigo was grossed out and was even smelling his sleeves until Eugenia came to get the baby for a diaper change. I guess he is not up to hard lessons in baby parenting lol.

Juan and Sofia have made up alright after unibrow baby's scare. Why don't they just get married and get it over with? Don Agustin and Santita beat them to the punch provided he survives of course..... BTW I love Sarita's many glasses. I myself use 3 pairs and have 2 presciption shades. Of and did you notice the Gucci Glasses she had on? Nice.

I've said all along that Rosario and Ruth are like the real protagonists or rather hidden protagonists and tragic figures here. Ruth has a lot of depth to mher character. And No. She is not really evil. She is very aggressive and bitchy but not bad... I really think and hope that she will redeem herself sometime.

Coyote is the man around town. Charms his way around old women to get intel. though, Raquel is more milfy than Gabriela. Someone mentioned that raquel has lost a lot of weight.... I notice that now. particularly in her cheeks and legs.

Who knows Coyote might end up hooking up with Ruth or worse be related to her. Ha! That would be crazy. Then again we have seen crazier things happen in mexiloon.

I just want to see Fernando and Ricardo kill each other. I don't know if they will team up in joint venture against the Reyes'. I doubt it because they hate each other but could be even deadlier if they joined forces....

Maybe Don Agustin will survive. I have not seen the death figure with his scythe around.

I'm in the minority here but this is getting to be enjoyable and addicting. I can't follow the other shows but this. :)

Ibarramedia

I think Coyote knows a lot more than he is letting on right now. I feel like he will play each person against the other and they will end up destroying themselves (hopefully.) I hope he protects Raquel. I feel sorry for her a little.

There is now way Agustin will die...I think Ruth, his grandaughter, will save him. I agree that it was disturbingly realistic, the choking thing...ugh.

So they still don't have enough evidence on Feo to simply call the Comisario and put him away?? Well,, here's yet another attempted murder. (adjusting foil beanie)

My TV started smoking during the scene when Raquel Uribe walked out into the sun with her burgundy wig and orange sweater, wow.

I agree that Coyote is playing Gabi to get intel. I love how he appears at just the right moment, he has some kind of psychic powers for damsels in distress (or old dames as it were) We haven't really seen him interact with Ruth yet right?

They DID have enough evidence on Feo to put him away for stealing from the family, but Gabi got Sofi to drop the charges against him in exchange for telling her that Ricardo killed Juan's parents.

Randy, Ruth and Coyote interacted already. Ruth was entering through the doors before the staircase and I think Eva or Raquel or Gabi were talking to Coyote. I forget which one. Anyway one of the three introduce him to Ruth and she asked why he is called Coyote.

People have commented on having younger people play the girls. I don't know about that. Imagine Eiza Gonzales playing Sofia, Ingrid Schweibel playing Sarita, Maite Perroni playing Jimena, Allison Lozz playing Rosario, Grettel Valdez playing Ruth, Georgina Salgado Playing Leonora castaneda...... I can't see it. Maybe Ariadne Diaz might pull off Ruth. Fernando can be the guy who was Rigoberto, the guy who killed Floricenta in Guapos.

We should see Oscar and Don Agustin in wheelchairs. He can mentor him a little on making wheelies and other maneuovers. :)

Ibarramedia

I think that Abuelo is too wily to die like this in his elevator. Besides, he is the only one who has enough sense to keep this plot(such as it is) moving. Carlos

If Abuelo has enough wind to yell for Rosendo, then he's probably not in imminent danger of dying, even if the pressure on his throat is terrifying.

But they showed him getting woozy, so I guess we're supposed to pretend that you can yell when you're suffocating.

I wonder if Ruth will save him, or if someone else will get to him first. Will Ruth be ashamed that she didn't act faster? Or is she afraid of defying Feo?

Thanks Julie. Darth Rico and now Ruth Skywalker...funny. Slofia let Feo out of jail, but really, does he have to live in the house. It is amazing that Feo is still living in the hacienda considering his prior attempts at murder.... recently trying to push Slofia down the stairs after failing to shove Eva down same stairs. Also recently attempting to push Augie in his chair down the stairs as well. I would find it difficult to sleep at night (with or without burly bear Juan in the bed) just knowing Feo was around ready try again. What difference does it make to Slofia and Juan if they know who is their biological daughter...they should be able to love all of them the same. Many families include adopted kids with no problem. But then, we are talking about Slofia and Juan who are at the end of the IQ curve and not the good end. GinCa

Well the abuelo hanging act is realistic but it's acting, however with those poor babies, it's the real thing. They are screaming their heads off in terror; it is child abuse.

How do they act when the babies cry? Do they improvise? What if the script calls for the babies to cry, How do they make them cry?

What is the procedure for us Movies and TV?

If i was a betting man, I bet that Don Agustin lives. I sure hope so.

Ibarramedia

When they do DNA testing, they don't have to tell everything, just what's at issue. For example, they might prove that the DNA at the crime scene or on the murder weapon did not match that of the suspect. But they don't have to show whose it is. In Sofia's case, all they have to show is that she had a child within the time period, not which one it is. They could test the three, and the lab could announce, yes, she had a child.

But that would eliminate a few weeks of the show, so it's out.

Ibarramedia: As for the younger actors, I'm currently watching the DVD of Pasion de Gavilanes, the previous version of this same story. The 3 Reyes brothers and 3 Elizondo sisters on that DVD are way younger, and in my opinion, way hotter (and good actors). But strangely, because that show is way more serious than this one, it's not as fun to watch!

About the babies crying.

I've heard some very phony-sounding (or tinny-sounding) baby crying in my time, so I know that it's possible to just turn the baby's back to the camera and have the sound editor add the crying later if the kid isn't in a crying mood when needed.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for this show, since the girls are always in a crying mood.

And it does make me wonder. I know there are kids who will cry even at home with a full belly, dry diaper, no burps left, and being rocked by Mommy, so the crying is probably not always as dire as it sounds. But when there's a scene were people are yelling at each other in front of the kids, that can't be good for them.

Laws regarding use of young actors in the US are very strict as to how much time they can spend on a set - that's why they often use twins for a single role. (Twice as much screen time for the character.)

I've noticed how babies and very small kids are treated in General Hospital (the soap, I mean). Their scenes are typically very short, and the kid is there strictly for the adult actors to react to - that is, they don't have to do any special tricks, and they don't waste any time hanging around just to be cute. Then they go away for a "nap" and the grownups can argue all they want without traumatizing young ears.

Occasionally there's a close-up if the baby is calm (usually asleep). But they truly do not seem to put a lot of stress on the kids in US soaps, that I've noticed.

If you can't actually see the baby's face, then there's a good chance that it's either an inert bundle, a doll, or even a wiggling robo-baby (there is such a thing).

A few years ago (on GH), a psychokiller mobster was hiding in a dimly lit church with some kids she'd kidnapped. The little one started pointing excitedly at the big Klieg lights on the ceiling. The psycho killer actress broke character for a moment to give him a hug and some baby-talk, then continued the scene. (The actress wasn't related to him.)

I'm sure there was no time to reshoot, and it would have been tough to edit out. It was weird to see Crazy Lady being nice, but I'm glad they left it in. I felt better seeing the kid being treated like a human being and not a prop.

"Besides, he is the only one who has enough sense to keep this plot(such as it is) moving. Carlos"
ROFLOL!!!!!!!

They probably auditioned fussy kids *only.* Our son was a crier and screamer for years, from the day he was born. He would have been perfect in this novela. He had colic until he was sixteen years old. At that point he was still cutting molars so I chalked his crankiness up to teething. There it is. Yep, that's the nice young man of ours who got married a month ago. He's her problem now. BuaHahahahaaaaa

Doris: ROFLOL! Manoman! Can I relate! Mine's getting married in 6 months and was thinking the same thing and wondering if I'll catch myself secretly giggling when his firstborn exhibits the same endearing genes and traits..... He's a terrific young man now, but there were times when I truly wished to be transported into an alternative universe....arrggghhh!

Thanks Julie, I enjoyed the episode and the recap sealed the (enjoyable)deal. Here we go again!! Sophia knows who killed Juan's parents but is witholding the info from him. Meanwhile, they're getting all lovey dovey. Just as they are about reaffirm their undying love for each other, Juan will find out that Sophia knew the info and withheld it. The rest is history, or a should say a repeat of history. These folks don't seem to learn from their mistakes. This isn't a spoiler, just my opinion.

Julie, thanks much for the great recap@
I sense the train is starting to accelerate, there are a lot of loose ends to wrap up before "fin".
By the way, maybe Coyote really does go for the older, more experienced ladies (not OLD ladies as some of our commenters have noted...)
Yoo-hoooo, Coyote, I'm over heeere....
"Creemelo"

I don't want to give anything away before the West Coast people see tonight's episode, but I will say that this one is worth watching. It is easily the best FELS so far! (But there are still 19 minutes left for it to get boring and stupid again.)

Ann, you're probably right. We're not even in ultimas semanas yet - there's plenty of time for Juan and Sofia to split up a few more times.

Anon 5:07 I agree that they can love all the babies the same, but I would think they would want to know that one of them is their child, so that they could keep looking for her if she's still out there somewhere.

Julie - yes, it is a very good episode tonight! The promo for tomorrow really got my mind racing, too.

When I said juan and Slofia can love all their babies the same, I meant it to mean they should find out which girl is their biological daughter and then love their adopted daughters in the same manner. Why lose the hacienda when it isn't necessary. GinCA
