Fuego, Tuesday, 17 Feb. (#202 y #203) - The Ultimate in Fashion Statements: Gabriela Wearing a Large Noose

This is my last "Fuego en la Sangre" submission. It has been a pleasure to be with you all these many long months. Since I am still missing Coyote, I submit one last picture of my neighbor Coyote, aka Ricardo. Since Ricardo Uribe, Jr. had the nickname (apodo) of Coyote, I have decided to give this little guy (or gal, I am still not sure) the nickname Ricardo. If we are going to recap Mañana es para Siempre, I have asked to move to Wednesday nights to accommodate my bilingual southwestern literature class homework schedule so I hope to see you all there starting next week. I am inconsolable over our loss of Nickster and Julie, what stellar writers and humorists. I hope enough recappers new and experienced step forward to delight us all with their talents and Julie and NIckster will come back to these pages before long.

So where were we: ahhhh yes, Gabriela Acevedo de Elizando, wearing a dramatic long black coat wrapped in a long black shawl both of which set off to perfection the extra large gauge noose the villagers have prepared just for her special event. She should have a swinging time out on the town tonight. Let's peak in to see what happens next. Ahh we get treated to a rehash of I love you Mama my true mama who loves me when the false mama didn't love me like a mama. Forgive me but I can't go there word for word but in my sentence are all the words that keep being said over and over. ¡Basta! Sofia sentences Gabriela to a life alone for her punishment. The three sisters together in their sensational ponchos pledge eternal sisterhood and a triple wedding to set the town permanently on it's end. They have a brief rehash of who owns the hacienda, it is still Sofia since Bernardo is still her father, but she doesn't care about this, the sisters can count on her forever. Doesn't Sarita seem even prettier than Rosario now that she has totally let her self out and her hair down, her beauty shines through. But this telenovela never did suffer from a paucity of pulchritude just of probable plot. But I digress and the villagers send the warning of their lynching plans, Gabriela flees the derisive laughter of her worst hallucination, Bernardo smirking from the grave and now the lynchers have got their hands around the grand villainess once and for all. How could this possibly go wrong? the torches are lit, the foolish villain stumbles around the dry ice forest and finally they close in. Oh the noose looks great, She is again accused of harboring the evil Feonando who tried to kill Padre Tadeo she is as evil as he is and since they have her, put that rope up on the tree guys!. The noose tightens, But wait, Mutton Chops, has apparently renewed his contract and arrives with sirens whining and guns blazing in the air. They have no proof, and besides if they persist, they will be guilty of attempted homicide he avers. Chief Mutton asks Gabi if she is okay, he is worried and will have her taken home. She spurns him with her usual snubs and wanders home assuring him she can get there alone.

Paddy Tad with new black color and a bit too much oil (in his hair not his frock) is chastising Fermin for inciting the lynching crowd when God should mete out his revenge. It is not Fermin's place to exact justice.

Miraculously, Gabi runs into Feo on the way home and tells him in tears of how awful the noose felt and how afraid she is but that is nothing compared to his plans to inter her alive to fool them all while he wreaks havoc and revenge on the Reyes brats. She wants nothing of it but she is short on allies so we shall see.

Sofia and Eva grin hug and pray to the Virgincita and before Bernardo's tomb altar, they pledge to be the best mother daughter team in all the land and forever and ever and ever. Here comes Sarita and Jimena, Again Sofia assures the sisters that she wants to be with her mother but she will never abandon them. They need Eva too who has been more like a mother than mother and so they talk to Bernardo while Eva assures Bernardo that she has his three strong daughters and will protect, love and respect them forever. They have found men to love them and protect them forever. The tomb gleams in approval although he doesn't make the same kind of appearance he has saved for Gabi's eyes alone.

Juan and Mutton Chops argue over the capture and punishment of Feonando. Mutton insists that the great wanted poster will bring results and keep the law in charge, without explaining where in the world has he been for weeks while the crime spree has spread without abatement from the short arm of the law. Ahhh, but others see the poster with the $500,000 peso reward for delivering the criminal Feo, And it isn't the grim reaper, but the graveyard guard with the one good eye that can see this looks like much more money than Feo has been offering him for keeping quiet.

(Mendigo perro), begging dog, swears Juan, let's go, the posters are everywhere, on every tree, the villagers read and learn.

The girls plan life with the Reyes and Eva included forever and ever and ever. Everyone smiles, like they used to cry, that is endlessly.

Fatima the housekeeper comes running in to tell them that Gabriela has left the hacienda. They all run off as though they were chasing after a good mother. Go figure.

The boys clean up by the old swimming hole as if they have been reading this blog, but alas, though we get shirts off there are no bare butt shots. Rats, foiled again.

Gabi is leaving slowly and dramatically with Rosendo carrying her luggage. She renounces being their mother as the sisters rush up to ask her where she is going.

The guard shows Feo the poster and the large reward and mentions how paltry Feo's payment scheme is in comparison. Feo promises more money than these miserable bums can offer. Feo adds that he needs not only his loyalty but his aid too.

The bathing boys discuss that Feo has taken their happiness not only of Juan's girlie but their sister Libia too.

Rigo with his baby, wife, mother and step dad talk about their happiness of his when who should appear but the long lost brother back from his big job in the States but his mama called on the phone (where did she go to find one) and he is here to help. The most important thing is the family. like the patria, Mexico there aren't two.

The brothers show up at the hacienda insisting the sisters flee but they have their dream of white weddings like their father wanted and besides Gabriela has moved into the cabana so. Oscar urges that the Reyes submit to the white wedding dreams and the father's wish so they decide they can stay while the brothers will take turns guarding them. Then they ever so casually drop the news that last night the village almost lynched their mom. The ninny girls go all whacky (asusto). Gabi whines in her cabana. Over at the convent, Eva and Sofia meet with the Soledad. Soledad is thanked for bringing the truth in motherhood facts to light. They ask what they can do for her, she only wants prayers for the eternal peace of her son. She is now in full nun's habit and looks more serene than anyone else and assures them she has found peace.

In the kitchen eating large loaves of bread the Reyes and Rigo's family pledge eternal friendship and Juan assures Rigo that they will give him a small but sufficient parcel of land to farm themselves. The graveyard guard shows Feo how he can help him. He has a substance that by it self is harmless or just a sleepytime tea, but when mixed with alcohol can be quite lethal. This will do nicely muses Feo as he imagines Gabi with her perpetual snifter near her bitter lips. What a great helper our guard has turned out to be.

Oscar holds Jimena while she cries that it is painful to realize that you don't matter at all to your own mother. Oscar pledges that his love and devotion will be pledged to cure her of her wounds He will love her with his whole being. She says his love will protect her but she can't forget. Mirror, Franco pledges to always be with Sarita and give her all the love that her own mother withheld. She tells him that he has memories so sweet of his mother but she has memories so false. She wonders why her mother used her so, why she never loved her, why, why, why mama.

Juan and Sofia with all three babies who now look old enough to read, walk along the hacienda. They will be happy forever with the 3 munchkins and her mother, her mother, Juan her mother. your mother-in-law. oh they must mean Eva. What a night, what a night says Juan at the almost full moon.

Fatima comes back into the big house with a full tray of food saying Gabi doesn't want to eat. Sarita and Jimena worry that she will die of hunger. She shows us that it is more likely going to be demon rum or brandy. while she is tormented by the conscience of Bernardo who says she will never get over. The girls listen to her yelling outside. She never wants to see him return again, they think it is Feo but now, the cabana has been redecorated in red couches and chairs, and they enter while she screams to leave her alone and get out (fuera de aqui and largense). They leave and she turns to see Bernardo backed by the choral group singing accusations. Leave me in peace she begs the spector. But the ads come before peace arrives....

the boys are at the cave tomb pledging to give it a good cleaning and a better altar. Juan begs her to forgive them for not catching her killer yet. Oscar swears by this Reyesness and his brotherhood they will find out (hallar), Franco echos the sentiment. and Juan makes three they will find him, they will find him.

A disheveled Gabi faces a scruffy Feo and whines does he love her more than anyone else. He smirks yes, then she wants to know why he insists on this absurd plan she is so afraid of, he nods quietly and understandingly, with quite a full beard now. Glad we don't have scratch and sniff TV sets yet. She rants that he never loved her that she is so alone that he would love her dead, he nods she cries into the sofa, he waits then kisses her forehead and leaves her praying to her brandy snifter. Suddenly out in the yard, Gabi makes Rosendo promise to say nothing and not come near her cabana no matter what weird things he sees. He promises and she goes back into the cabana. Feo watches from behind the bush with his binoculars wondering how long he will have to wait for his great plan to be completed. Meanwhile the Reyes brothers mount horses and ride around in the forest still looking for Feo.

Last shot of the brandy snifter being filled, emptied, filled. As she is whining and crying, Gabi opens the casket that Feo has prepared and magically transported into the cabana. Gabi sits down to write a note, places all the money in the lining of the casket. drinks more then finds the cup, drinks the suspicious liquid. She is woosy but still resists the leather sleeves that put the washcloth full of ether or whatever Feo still had in his dastardly arsenal of intoxicants and she slumps unconscious.

Rosendo tells the girls that mama had a casket (ataud) delivered to the cabana and he thought they should know. Dr. Montes, happens to come and tells them he is worried about their mother and is especially so when he hears about the casket. Feo watches the doctor and ninny daughters rush off to the cabana and hopes doc will declare her dead. Suddenly the Reyes brothers show up at the hacienda and Feo shoots at the brothers, meanwhile inside the cabana, the doctor declares her dead. and just to make it sure we get the significance, the magic camera shoots her in sepia while the daughters stay in color. (cool effect usually seen only in ads but I'm just saying) So did I get a kill or not?? Mama, mama, mama. Adios amigos mios.

Many thanks for the recap. I got an expected phone call from an old friend rght as Vicente's Para Siempre came on and had to mute the set while my friend talked on through the middle of Aqui y Ahora!!! So I saw and had to guess the dialogue but having read your recap, I see I wasn't that far off. Great recap, I especially liked "The three sisters together in their sensational ponchos" description!!! Dee2

Is she really dead or did she fake her death by drinking the cup? She was also drinking alcohol and that combined with the herbs in the cup are deadly...... Fernando also put the ether in her face. And she looked really dead. I guess we will find out soon.

CherylNewMex, I love that recap. Probably your best work. Or at least one of your best work.
No full moon tonight but a series of quarter moons to mark the passage of days....Muttonchops and his keystone kops are as incompetent as ever except for stopping the lynch mob. All other times, they are like the 3 stooges. I won't even get into Padre Tadeo. Be a true soldier of God and have some guts.

Ibarramedia

Cheryl, your recap, as always, a delightful and sparkling chaser to the episode.
Pardon me, but I found the smirking ghost of Don Bernardo quite annoying and sanctimonious...who is he to talk, isn't he the one who slept with two different women he wasn't married to and got them pregnant?
"Creemelo"

Oh my, "scratch and sniff" TV!...that image is going to haunt me now, Cheryl.

Great recap as always, and much relieved to know that while you're quitting the Tuesday night spot, you'll still be doing Wednesdays. I had visions of Melinama having to do MTWTh before finally handing over the reins to Jardinera.

It is very sad to see so many of our 9 pm recappers stepping back but I hold out the hope that they will all return soon. 'Cause we love 'em!

Thanks, Cheryl, for all your excellent recaps. Crabby...is she muerte or is she bien muerte ???? That was a very creepy scene with the casket in the room. Gotta run...late for work...later.

Very nice Cheryl. I had to let the dogs out so missed some parts but it is all clear now. You'd think theyd be able to find Feo now just by his smell! Yuck. The casket was just plain creepy. All of a sudden zap there it is. Did Feo bring the sleepytime tea with him because it just appeared too. I hope they don't have any scenes with Crabi waking up in her casket--that's just plain creepy.

"So did I get a kill or not??"
ROFLOL!!!!!

Cheryl, thank you for all your faithful recapping. I have enjoyed reading everyone of them, as well as the delightfully snarky 'asides.' Tonight's did not disappoint.

Father Bouffy is definitely in need of a wig wash. Oh well, we're at the end and they probably figure 'why bother?'

Yay! Gabi is finally llegando deshecho. Por fin!

All I can say about the Sofi lines, hermanas lines, yadda yadda yadda, is thank heavens for the FFWD--> button!

I got so excited, thinking we were FINALLY going to get a swimming scene, when all we got was a Navy bath. Waaah. Oh well, I'll take the beefcake ... erm ... water-related scenes we get. Like throwing crumbs to the starving, if you ask me. I'm just sayin'...

Creemelo - I'm with you. Don Bernardo never impressed me, either. He probably got what he deserved in being married to Gabi.

Oooh, forgot to mention how awful Muttonchops' wig is. That *has* to be a wig, I hope. The close-up scene last night, on our big HD TV . . . Too much HD!

We were certainly ripped off on the non-swimming/bathing scene. I was hoping they would just strip down and dive in. EY is certainly awesome. Will this Colunga guy be as good?

Well, rosendo did say there was a coffin delivered to the cabana. How do they order these things without a phone or internet?!?

Is Gabriela trully dead or not? That is the question....

Sarita is hot, but she just got hotter than a supernova. Enough to propel her to my number one spot. :) I love Jimena and Sofia too. Sofia is looking better now.
I'm just puzzled when she was talking to Juan about living in the hacienda, she kept saying Y mi mama meaning Gabi, until Juan just said yes. Was she going to live with 2 mamas.. Lol.

Muttonchops has trimmed his beard a bit. Just noticed that.

Ibarramedia

How lovely to drink my first cup of coffee and have such warm greetings from FELS faithful to the enders!! I am so glad you enjoyed it.

Dee2, glad you were able to catch up via this post. When I am in the middle of recapping I just can't answer the phone because it is alway a dear old friend that I just have to talk to.

Ibarramedia, your list gets more astounding, I don't know of another telenovela with this high body.
count of characters we actually get to know with very little filler. You are such a discerning observer that I am particularly pleased you liked the recap.

Creemelo, you are right about Bernie not being the sterling voice of retribution. I liked him harping at Gabi but I did not like his seduction of the weak teen sister. He seemed more of a cadaver in that pool scene than he did in the cabana last night.

Judy, thanks for dropping by, not only are your recaps a delight for all, but it has been a pleasure to see you go from slightly intimidated by the technology of this blog to posting beautifully written pieces with implants of color, addenda of vocabulary and reference sites. We cyberseniors be bloggin' ¿no?

Susanlynn, I love your astute comments and often wish I could have had such a hip teacher as you when I was in school. I sure remember the ones who were so real even decades later. I imagine you are one of the memorable ones for many of your students.

Connie, you have become such a faithful commenter. I enjoy your list too of useful phrases we have heard so often in this story. I can sypathize with the dogs' attention getting moves. Willa has to be fed, potted and watered before I start these but will successfully interrupt me if I am just watching.

Doris, our best swim scene commentator, I loved your "Navy bath" description. Thanks for the appreciation.

Connie, oh do you have a treat coming with your first Colunga telenovela. He is mister body beautiful. Such a magnificent human being. He is also so clear and easy to understand, he will instantly become your favorite Spanish teacher, with six - pack abs! I personally love both of them and have become a Jaime Camil fan with Tontas since I did not watch LFMB untli the very end when I found telenovelas as a study tool extraordinaire.

Thanks, Cheryl, for your (gran) final recap, very good, and it isn't "adios", but "hasta pronto", correcto? Muttonchops to the rescue! Whodathunk? Isn't that the first time he's done any real law enforcement before the fact? Crabi, Crabi, Carbi, even in your worst hour of need, you are still a complete and total bitch to your own daughters. You are truly beyond redemption. The scene with Feo not saying a word was the wierdest yet, don't know why they did it that way, pretty creepy. Where did that goofy casket with the trap door lid come from? did Feo drag it over there in broad daylight? That guy has some real huevos, walking about during the day, taking his portraits off the trees. It's good to see that he doesn't reserve his ether for just his INNOCENT victims, but kept a flask habdy for Crabi. Of course she's not dead, this "death" would be too easy and quick for her. I think that she won't die at all, but live her life out in a living hell for all her evil doings. Feo, of course, will die. It's gonna be fun, these last 3 episodes...

Cheryl, allow me to express my thanks for your insightful and always humorous recaps. This TN not only put demands on your (as well as all the other recappers') writing and translating skills, but also your patience and endurance. You guys rule! I hope Gabriella is not dead yet; I don't want her to get off that easily. Our bloodlust has been roused and needs to be sated. Woe unto Gabriella and Fernando, may they suffer mightily before biting the big one. Now everyone go and have a nice day. Carlos

Thank you Cheryl. Those are kind words. I enjoy everyone here in our little cyber family. My comprehension has increased so much just by watching the show and reading all the mini grammer lessons. Very helpful. Some day I hope to be a recapper too.

Hello - Big fan of the recaps. My girlfriend has got me hooked on FUEGO, that's sad, eh? We found the CD soundtrack at a flea market two weeks ago - anxious for the DVD set of the show.

Request - does anyone have a large .jpg of Libia's necklace with the Virgen? My girlfriend wants a repro. If so please send to orgullodemexico@yahoo.com MIL GRACIAS

Thanks for the recap Cheryl and your faithfulness to what was for a long time a mess of a novela. Your insights into the language and culture were always appreciated.

I don't think Gabi is dead. Even though the final scene had the special effect, I think she'll find herself alive in that coffin six feet under. Just guessing but that would be very creepy and somewhat appropriate for her - it's what she fears most.

Karen, I'll buy that.
Carlos

Connie, Colunga will NOT disappoint.

Thanks to all FELS recappers. You are GREAT.

So she will be buried alive and wake up to find out she is still buried and die after a day or two without oxygen. How horrible...

Fernando will be killed and no one will know about Gabi....

And orgullodemexico I just ordered the Fuego DVD. Guys don't judge me now because of that. Lol.

Ibarramedia

So if a person is buried alive in a coffin. How much air do they have and how long would it take to suffocate?

Connie, I'm not an expert, but I'm guessing that a person wouldn't last more than a few minutes, concious, at least. It would not be a pleasnt way to go...

I wouldn't think so either. The more you panic, the faster you breathe, the faster you run out of air.

There was an episode of CSI a few years ago that had a case involving a guy who fake his own death and was buried (not embalmed of course) and then he proceeded to dig his way out of his coffin. I think he also had oxygen or a breathing apparatus. He was big and strong enough to do that. Gabriela is not strong to begin with and before her 'death' she was severely weakened...

Most of you had been on the money on prognosticating events. Have you guys looked ahead? ;)

Ibarramedia

I think there are rules or laws of the Tenenovelas that make it predictable. What are some of those?

1. A good guy will not kill a bad guy at the end. They will be killed by other means.

2. If you say never ever, for sure it is going to happen.

3. If you say "in case something happens to me" you are a gonner.

Ok you TN Veterans, what are some more?

Cheryl - great recap as always. How do you get your Coyotes to pose for pictures? Ours are very shy and we just catch a glimpse now and then. The National Park system reintroduced them to our area. Maybe they don't feel at home yet.

Julie - sorry to hear that you are being deprived of our favorite network. Do keep looking into getting it over the air. There is a web site for choosing antennas to get the new digital signals. I'll post if I can find it.

Ibarramedia- where do you get the FELS DVD? I'd be buying it for the stories of course.

Connie- in a small sealed coffin I don't think one has much breathing time. But of course the laws of physics are suspended in Mexidoon.

Abuelo P

Connie: the first novela I ever got hooked on was Amor Real due strictly to Colunga and have only watched novelas starring him until FELS. I'm not normally not a fan of modern settings and have mixed feelings about MEPS. Until they show shots of Colunga, especially the one last night without his shirt on. For a man of almost 43 he is truly a work of art.

Cheryl: normally I save my thanks to the recappers for the last show as I am not a regular commentor but all of you certainly deserve all the thanks and credit you get. Thanks for sticking with us through this mostly unbearable novela.

I saw the one last night with his shirt off. I think he will work out just fine. :P I hope he takes a lot of showers and goes swimming on a regular basis.

Julie y todos. Here is the link for antenna choosing. http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

A page comes up that asks for name and address but look closely, it just needs your zip code. No guarantee you can get reception, but this may help.

Abuelo P

Thanks Cheryl.

I have a couple of questions. What was the money for that she stuffed in the casket?

And, did anyone find the dialogue really hard to follow last night. There were more words then ever that I had to look up.

Abuelo, I got it off ebay... Should be here anytime soon between this week and next week. Hopefully the eliminated scenes were the tonterias scenes of quintina her strippers and the two spinsters.

Ibarramedia

Cheryl: Thanks not only for last night's fantasic recap but for all the others that have gone before.

While Muttonchops was unable to solve even the smallest crime during this entire telenova, at least he was able to prevent one by saving Crabi from being lynched.

Condolences to Doris, Creemelo, Connie and others who were hoping for one last Reyes brothers swimming scene (right alone with me).

It's nice to see some happiness filtering as the dark clouds of death and deceit are lifting. Loved the scene of Juan, Sophia and their kids as well as Rigo reuniting with his brother. Will Pedro return? What about Abuelo?

Connie, in answer to your question about EY and Colunga: EY is it for me. But, Fernando is a very close second. The only thing I saw FC in was Pasion, which I loved. Many call him TBLMOE and deservedly so.

Agree with those thinking Crabi's not dead. Karen, I think your comment is spot on: " I think she'll find herself alive in that coffin six feet under." Her worst nightmare realized.

So, where is Ruth's body? Diana in MA

I am so glad I saw 3 niñas, one must have been having a tantrum during a few of the episodes.
Looking for Fernando?? Why doesn't someone just hang around Gabi's hacienda?
Can't believe Chief Chops showed up in time to actually stop a crime.
Since when do people have a casket laying around the house? On the other hand it is a great place to store stuff, other than cuerpos. And now that I think about it, the way things are going in this town, everyone should have one handy.
I guess the doctor didn't happen to have one of his magic pills with him.
Connie, Fernando Colunga is el más guapo & a much better actor than EY & he doesn't need to yell so much to prove it.
From the beginning I thought they needed a better looking older man for Libía.

I missed last night because of a mandatory CPR class...and forgot to set VCR, aarrrgh!!

So extra thanks for the great re-cap, and for all the enjoyable recaps!

Someheow I didn't think that noose would stay around Gabi's neck for long.

Thanks to all the recappers. I can usually understand most of what is said, but I love your spin on events. Also, having come late to Fuego, everyone's comments have been great for filling in the background I've missed.

It seems likely Gabi will wake up buried alive. But how is Fernando going to get the money that she stashed in the sides of the coffin out before they bury her? Maybe that's how he'll get found out - putting his unique spin on the concept of an open casket viewing.

I thought it was funny when Juan and Sofia were heading off into the moonlight with the tres hijas, and the one Juan was holding didn't seem to happy. So he just put her down and start kissing Sofia! A couple of minutes later you saw the two girls running around playing, but it just seemed like he plopped her on the ground without a second thought.

Sarita does look beautiful now that she's wearing contacts. But she sure did drop a lot of pesos on all those designer eyeglass frames for every outfit!

Great recap. I think with the mixture of the alcohol she was drinking, with the ether Feo used on her, and the sleeytime tea, I think Gabi is a goner. If she isn't really dead and wakes up later ala Juliet only to find herself buried alive, that's a horrifying death. What if the money she placed in the coffin is buried with her what will Feo do then? Looking forward to tonight's show to find out and will we ever find out what Feo did with Ruth's body?

nobody seems to care anymore about what happened to Ruth. I guess everyone just figures she ran away and good riddance. bummer to be dead and have no one even looking for you, pretty much the fate Ruth feared for herself and tried so hard to escape. I still feel sorry for her.

what do the telenovela rules say about pledging to give your life for others over and over? some commenters seemed to think this was boding badly for Eva at some point, but all the boys have said the same things to their girls at various times as well.

Jazzee, I suspect that Gabi packed her money into the coffin as insurance, to make sure that Feo would have a reason to dig her up.

Of course that won't work if he's able to retrieve it before she's buried.

I too was disappointed in the washing-up scene. I'm sure they deliberately teased us with the prospect of a bath and swim!

I also think we're being teased with Gabi's "death." First she almost gets hanged, perhaps she'll have a near-miss this time too (since they found her so fast), then have a real death later. (Probably in her casket!)

It's kind of a neat idea to "kill" a character multiple times, except that Feo's the one I'd really like to see suffer that way. He still seems to be having fun. No me gusta.

Thanks for that antenna info, Abuelo! Very interesting. However, I'm not spending any money at this time.

Loved your list Connie. Though I can't think of a lot here are two - if the main protagonists are together, pledge undying love to one another and say I'll never (leave you, always believe in you, etc), they'll be uncoupled by the next episode (or sometime soon).

Also early in the story, an innocent incredibly naive character trusts and says out loud how trust-worthy a complete villain is. Though this scenario is supposed to demonstrate how evil the villain is, it usually also shows how vapid the hero/heroine is.

Those are good ones Karen.

Connie, if you haven't read Poe's Cask of Amontillado or Premature Burial, then you must. Both will give you insight into your research on the subject. As well, they are guaranteed fodder for some interesting dreams. I think that Gabriella was looking in to these stories a while back.
Carlos

Karen - perhaps we should name the episode when Gabi is buried by Feo "Six Feet Under: Mexidoom" like the CSI ones.

EXCELLENT recrap, Cheryl. You really went out in style. You've got that alliteration going on! Paucity of pulchritude! Ha!

Do we think it's just bad editing, all the goofs in this thing? Why didn't they show Feo giving her the green tea looking stuff? I thought I remembered a conversation with Rosendo about a delivery and can't remember if she said ataud. Also, if Feo wants to kill Crabi off with the combination of green tea and alcohol, how does he plan to get his hands on the dinero? Even if Crabi changed her will, he can't exactly show up for the will reading and claim his prize. They'd slap him in the calabozo.

I was wondering about Eladio's wife and child, the wife being the daughter of Fatima, forget her name. Did they stay in the US?

Fantastic recap, thanks for all of the great recaps, Cheryl.

ITA agree about the phone that Hortensia supposedly used to call her son. After all this time, they have a phone!?

Renee: Loved your comment about how much Sarita spent on designer glasses, now that she's wearing contacts.

Dorado Dave: Also thought it was very creepy and powerful for Feo not to say ONE WORD during that long, long speech by Crabi.

Soledad was standing right in front of a huge picture of the Virgencita, and was dressed exactly like her, when she said she would forever pray for her dead son!

The interiors of the cabana and the hacienda look nothing like the way they did for the first 9/10 of the show. Guess the leases ran out, 'cause the show was extended so long!

Thanks Carlos, I am familiar with the Cask of Amontillado but it has been a long time since I've read that. I love Edgar Allen Poe. I'll have to read it again. I think it would be a pretty awful way to go.

Thanks for the additional postings from so many. This has been such a great group. Each novela develops a unique community which adds to the enjoyment of both writing and reading on this blog.

Abuelo, about that coyote neighbor. I think the coyotes were here in Corrales before the people so they are still pretty sure of themselves. The technique I use is the corollary to Louis Pasteur's advice, "chance favors only the prepared mind" so that chance also favors only the prepared camera.

You can read Poe's "The Cask of Amontiallado here.

Thanks Julie.

Gabi was writing a letter as she stuffed money in the casket lining.
My guess is that she was leaving a letter for Feo to find informing him that if he want the dough, he'll have to dig her up.
Of course, he can wait until after the expiration date, so to speak.
"Creemelo"
PS as much as I despise Crabiela, I am not much looking forward to her rip-snorting death scene in a casket, as we now surmise it will be.

Eladio's wife was Natalia. I don't remember if they had a baby.

Carlos, Thanks for starting the Poe string. I love his stuff too. He had the ability to create so much emotion with just words. In his pre movie or tv world, his words can actually make the hair on your neck stand up with just descriptions.

What the heck kind of water feature was that?? I feel totally robbed! Oscar didn't even get off the horse.

I'm with those who say Feo gets killed and Gabi is alive long enough to realize she has been buried alive. Ack, what a way to go!

It was mentioned that Nat and Eladio had a baby in a letter.

Hombre de Misterio, I read that the final week of FELS was shot in Puebla (as opposed to just the exterior shots in Puebla and the interior in Mexico City soundstages), so that would explain the difference in the cabana and all the new courtyard scenes.

Connie~~~I don't think that you will be disappointed with Fernando Colunga. Fernando is suave and polished, and no one can put the moves on quite like Fernando. He has a beautiful voice, too...rich, deep, and resonant. AHHHH..Where was I ??? He's a different sort of handsome than Eduardo, but variety is the spice of life, no???? One would get tired of a big porter house steak every night...fillet mignon is good, too. ~~~Susanlynn, who actually eats no red meat at all so she should have chosen a different analogy

CherylNM: Beautifully captured coyote and a classy way to start your fin to FELS. Enjoyable read all the way through. As for nekkid nalgas, we have at least 3 more episodios to hope.....

Cheryl~~~Thanks for your kind words. I love to teach , and I try to be a good teacher. I usually am rewarded for any effort I make with lots of hugs and ''thank yous.'' I have wonderful students who have taught me much more than I have taught them.

Thanks for yet another excellent recap, Cheryl. And thanks to Julie, as well. (No, Julie, say it ain't so! Looking forward to your comments and hope things improve.)
Ninnies is the perfect word to label las hermanas. There has to be one more twist, at least, to Crabi's method of death.

Cheryl, thank you for all the great recaps. And thanks for sharing your pics and some of the highlights of your adventures in Mexico. It's been fun.

Yes, where is poor Root buried. Hope we find out .GinCA

Cheryl...thank you soooo much for your brilliant recaps!
Loved them, they made this show bearable and very enjoyable.
LOL loved the recaps so much more than the actual novella.
My theory is that FELS existed only so witty recaps could be written about it.

Susanlynn..."is she muerte or is she bien muerte?"
Why am I channeling the Wizard of Oz?
So in honor of dearly departed Crabiella....a song.

(Mayor)
As mayor of the Munchkin City
In the county of the land of Oz
I welcome you most regally

(Judge)
But we've got to verify it legally
To see...

(Mayor)
To see...

(Judge)
If she...

(Mayor)
If she...

(Judge)
Is morally, ethically

(Munchkin 1)
Spiritually, physically

(Munchkin 2)
Positively, absolutely

(Munchkin Men)
Undeniably and reliably dead

(Coroner)
As Coroner , I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really most sincerely dead

(Mayor)
Then this is a day of independence for all the munchkins
And their descendants
Yes, let the joyous news be spread
The wicked old witch at last is dead

(Munchkins)
Ding-dong the witch is dead
Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below - below - below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead!!!!

You all are so great with the recaps and comments.
This site is wonderful!

hugs
Janet
