Doña Bárbara - Thurs., March 19 - The baptism ends in a fight; Marisela gets drunk at the party and briefly decides to take Santos back

First, for Anonymous 5:10 from yesterday, a picture of Santos in his mask.

Los Mondragón demand the right to be at the baptism. Santos accuses DB of planning the whole thing.

Facundo tells Sapo that Gonzalo is from a high ranking family with lots of money but he and his father disagree about politics. Sapo tells Facundo that he wants more information about Gonzalo so that he can work out his strategy for dealing with him.

Eustaquia wakes up and asks Juan Primito to take her to her room and not say anything about what happened to DB.

In response to his accusations, DB tells Santos that she didn't have to tell Los Mondragón about the baptism. Everyone in town knew about it. She asks what she would gain by ruining the celebration. Marisela answers that DB would harm others, which is her specialty. DB says that if her presence in the church bothers everyone so much, she will leave. Santos asks Los Mondragón to leave the church. Leon tells Carmelito that this won't end here. They leave but are waiting outside the church.

Altagracia sees DB talking with Los Mondragón outside the church and says that Santos was right. DB planned the whole thing.

DB tells Los Mondragón not to say a word to anyone about her sending them to the baptism. JP comes running up to tell DB that Eustaquia is very sick.

The church service ends and the priest tells the congregation to go in peace. Melesio says that isn't very likely with Los Mondragón outside. Carmelito seems to think that he has to defend his honor by picking a fight with Leon. They proceed to punch each other while the other men look on and Marisela goes for the police. The women and the babies leave the scene expressing various opinions about the men fighting.

Santos finally stops the fight, the police come and Leon is about to stab Carmelito in the back when Santos intervenes. Once again Leon tells Carmelito that it won't end here and that he won't live to be an old man.

Dr. Arias tells DB that Eustaquia needs complete peace and tranquility. He says that DB needs it, too for her baby to be healthy.

Gervasia is upset with Carmelito and afraid of the threats that Leon made. Carmelito swears that nothing will happen to him.

Marisela and Genoveva are in the anti-fighting camp of the women and they express their displeasure with their men. Casilda tells Pajarote that the punch is too weak (aguado) and is like the kiss of an idiot ('como beso de bobo'). Casilda gets called away and leaves Pajarote to make the punch a little more 'spicy' (picante). Pajarote makes sure the punch is anything but weak with the result that all the women get drunk except Genoveva. The punch releases Marisela's true feelings for Santos but she falls asleep with Santos in a head lock.

Melquiades asks DB how Eustaquia is and DB says that there is no evading the sum of her years. She tells Melquíades how Eustaquia dragged DB away from the sleeping rapists, got her into a canoe and traveled several days to save DB's life. DB says that she still doesn't know how such a small, fragile woman was able to do that. DB says that Eustaquia did it for her. "Thats what mothers do," says Melquíades, "they even give their lives for their children." DB replies that some mothers do that while others destroy the lives of their children. She says that when Eustaquia dies, she will be completely alone with no one who cares for her unconditionally. "You won't be alone," says Melquíades, "You have me, mi doña. You have me and the baby you are expecting and that will make you content, mi doña. He and I will always take care of you. He and I will always adore you, mi doña."

Melesio tells Carmelito to stay away from Los Mondragón.

Meanwhile, back at El Miedo, Leon swears that he will kill Carmelito in various nasty ways. DB overhears and forbids Leon and Tigre from harming anyone at Altamira and orders Melquíades to makes sure her orders are followed.

Marisela wakes up with a hangover. Genoveva gives her a rose and a note from Santos that says, "Today, the morning is pretty and happier, life is beautiful because I woke up with my sunshine at my side. Happy dawn (Feliz amanecer) and remember that I continue to love you and always will. Your Santos." Marisela says that she can't stop loving Santos. She asks Genoveva what would happen if she decided to fight for Santos in spite of everything. If she forgot about morality and decency and returned to live at Altamira. Then she says that she is saying crazy things. She asks Geno what she would do in her place. "Me?" says Geno, "I have a mother who is the worst, who has never cared about me, who has treated me badly for years and years and who stole my hacienda. And I have a man who loves me, who adores me and who tells me the most beautiful things. Let's see, what would I do? Leave the way open for the evilness of my mother to destroy the love of my life or stay with this ripe and precious little mango (manguito)? So it's obvious that you have to stay with Don Santos." "And the baby?" says Marisela, "Have you forgotten that the evil mother is expecting the little mango's baby?" She asks what people will say when they see them together. Geno tells her not to worry about what people say. She should concentrate on what will make her happy. She tells Marisela to get up, get dressed, put on her makeup and go find Santos at the milk processing factory.

DB brings breakfast to Eustaquia. Eustaquia notices that she is all dressed up and says that she hopes DB isn't chasing after Santos. DB says that she isn't. She is just going to show Santos that she can change. She says that she is going to the milk processing factory to give the Cattlemen's Association the money she promised them.

Facundo and Sapo are in the restaurant of the hotel where Gonzalo is having breakfast. Facundo tells Sapo that he has found out that Gonzalo was persecuted by Meléndez, hid at DB's house and is good friends with Santos Luzardo. Sapo says that from a distance it looks to him like Gonzalo likes power.

Santos, Andrés and Cósme are discussing the potential of the milk processing plant when DB comes in and congratulates Santos on his achievement.

Antonio says goodbye to Toñito and tells a hung-over Cecilia that he has to go back to San Fernando to work.

Santos asks what DB is doing there. She says that she has brought her contribution to the construction of the milk processing plant. When Santos doesn't say anything, she says that nothing that she does, good or bad, pleases him. She sees that Marisela has come to the door of the room behind Santos so she embraces Santos telling him what a good father he will be, etc. When she sees Marisela leave, she lets Santos go and leaves herself.

Marisela just makes it to the boat that Antonio and Lucía are taking back to San Fernando. "Let's go!" says Marisela. "Who are we going with?" asks the boatman. "With God and the Virgin," everyone replies.

This is a White winged Swallow.

DB returns to El Miedo. Eustaquia says that she did good by not staying too long with Santos. "No, viejita," says DB sadly, "I didn't do anything good. I must have something really bad inside me, something, dirty, rotten and broken. Something that doesn't let me be good and fair." She says that once again she has broken her daughter's heart. She says that she can't be good if her love is in danger. She asks why they both had to fall in love with the same man.

Santos comes to Altamira looking for Marisela and when Genoveva tells him that she went to the milk processing plant and Carmelito tells him that she has gone back to San Fernando, he realizes that she must have seen him and DB in the clinch.

Back in San Fernando, Marisela asks Gonzalo, "Why can't I love you, Gonzalo? Why?" "It's very easy," replies Gonzalo, "you just have to try, Marisela." "Yes," says Marisela, "I will try. I have to learn to be happy and I will do it with you. I will fall in love with you. Of course I will fall in love with you."

Thanks a million for the picture of Santos in the mask! Great recap! I loved the drunks. Marisela was hilarious and Santos was such a sweet teddy bear. You think they carry those at Toysrus? Me wants!

Not that she's known for her thoughtfulness, but I thought it was cruel of DB to tell Melquiades that, when Eustachia dies, she will be all alone. He obviously worships the ground she walks on.

Yes, Marisela drunk was wonderful. Fun to have a light moment. Cristian Meier was absolutely adorable in these scenes, at one point backing off a bit from her supposedly alcoholic breath. Of course, we know she and Santos can't get back together until close to the end. We telenovela lovers are used to frustration!

Wow, the humor of the last few episodes has made the extended programming worth the wait! I'm loving every minute of Santos and Marisela together! Your recpas are outstanding and the pictures- well any view of Christian Meier is fine with me- and how about the mask? Pretty cute if you ask me.

Jean, good recap and photos! DB certainly treats Melquiades like chopped liver. She doesn't even toss him a polite - oh yeah you've given up everything for me. She just has a blank stare into space! Guess she's pretty sure he loves her enough not to ever turn on her, so insults don't matter.

Really enjoyed the drunk scene. At least they're together even for a short time...
