Mañana es para siempre 3/16: "I don't know which of you is the greater imbecile."

Well, folks, I would love to give up these MEPS Mondays because my captions seem to be permanently broken. If you want to give it a shot, let me know. And I had to guess at quite a bit of this (the loud background noise doesn't help) so I won't be offended, I will in fact be very grateful, if you can correct or expound...

First, we re-watch Gardenia yelling at the chauffeur and telling him (1) get your cotton-pickin' hands off me; (2) your boss Barbara is an evil hyena, she did the jiggy with Damian in his car and I saw it; and (3) Soledad is dead. That finally shut him up.
  • Sweet Santiago the bohemian painter and youngest brother of Fer (I've decided to like him despite his ridiculous hairdo) interrogates his hitchhiker as they drive toward her destination. She was brought up by and lived with an old woman, Dominga, who'd been paid to take her. The woman, we see, is a drunk; while she was nodding out the previous night some crummy old dude either raped Aurora or tried to, saying he paid Dominga for this nooky and he's going to have it!

Aurora ran away and hid in the market. Now she wants to get to the capital to find her mother, whose name she doesn't know. Good luck with that one. She is thinking it isn't the greatest idea, but it's the only one she has.

They get to Villa Marelo and Santi reluctantly says goodbye. She's off to find a bus to take her to D.F., he leaves, she goes to the cheese house! Surely the same one where Eduardo found Franco Santoro's ID card! There is some product placement of fresh and tasty cheese.

She's about to get on the bus when Santiago roars back in his jeep and shouts for her and gets on his knee and proposes: that she go with him to his sister's wedding posing as his girlfriend - since his father told him to come back a real man and/or with a girlfriend. In exchange, he'll take her to the capitol next day and help find her mother. Aurora says was educated by nuns and doesn't like to lie - he says she can stay quiet and he'll do the lying. He'll say her luggage was lost on the trip.

  • Barbara is hectoring everybody to get this wedding happening. Fer is begging for more time, she really wants her nana Soledad's blessing before the ceremony; she's also worried because Santiago hasn't yet arrived.

Barbara comes up with a new lie: Soledad has gone to town, to the beauty parlor, she'll be a bit late. Fer wants to wait. The bishop can't wait, though, he has another wedding to preside at in the city.

Barbara sez they can't wait, the guests are arriving, and she stomps out. Fer asks Erika: "Will you come with me to town to find my nana?"

  • Jacinto bikes home to tell Margarita it's time for the wedding, but she's left him!

  • Fr/Ed orders flowers to arrive that very afternoon. Later, he gloomily ponders his shirt selection and monologues briefly on vengeance. Jacinto shows up and wails about Margarita's scarper. Fr/Ed guesses she's at Florecita's house and gets Jac to call her there. She's there but won't talk to him. Fr/Ed promises he'll help his buddy get her back -- after the wedding.

  • Santiago arrives, Fer is happy he's on time for the first time in his life, he introduces Aurora as his girlfriend. Then Santiago sees Erika (dressed in horse clothes), hugs her, and introduces her to Aurora as Fer's best friend.

Fer gets out some clothes for Aurora to wear and Erika takes her away to put makeup and earrings on her, because Santiago wants to talk to Fer one-on-one. (Aurora is understandably nervous to be on her own, Santi breezily gives her permission to make up whatever stories she likes about their history.)

Aurora doesn't want tons of makeup. Erika: "Did you know Santiago used to be love with me?" Aurora: "Yes, pretty much." "Oh, I wouldn't have thought he'd have talked about it. I imagine you're artistic too." "Yes, I'm a, uh, painter. And what is your connection to the family?" "Well, I'm Fer's best friend, but more important, I am Camilo's future wife."

  • Santiago: "Sis, when you called to tell me about your marriage, there was no passion in your voice, and now, there is none in your face." "Don't torment me!" "Are you in love?" She gives him that same guff about this being an "adult" love. "But your hearts don't beat as one."

Dad comes in with Barbara; he greets Santiago as the "prodigal son." Santiago clearly doesn't like Barbara - he avoids her air kiss, muses that her earrings are beautiful and must have cost his dad a fortune. He asks Barbara if this wedding were HER idea.

She changes the subject, informing Pa Elizalde that Santiago arrived with a woman. "A friend," he says. "Then she'll be leaving after the wedding?" she says. "Barbara, women of YOUR AGE don't understand how things are these days, we can live together without..." the dad sorta coughs and Santiago elaborates: "She's my girlfriend, my future wife." Barbara looks like she swallowed a fly.

  • Camilo (recently described by Erika as her soon-to-be husband) is in a convertible with his arm around Natasha. He has it all figured out: he and Natasha will dress in horse clothes and ride horses (is this some part of the wedding?) and he'll introduce her to the family. She's afraid of both.

  • Fer begs her dad for just a little more time, for Soledad to show up and bless her. And Santiago begs for just one more minute of Fer's time. Dad and Barbara leave.

Santiago says: "You're the only person I know as well as I know myself, and I know you aren't in love with Damian, there's no music in your voice. If you figure out you've made a mistake, have the courage to admit it and fix it, promise?" She sort of promises I guess.

Aurora shows up all pretty in Fer's dress and earrings. Santiago reveals to Fer that Aurora is not his girlfriend, they've only know each other a few hours -- but it's a secret. Fer tells Aurora she can count on her for anything, regardless.

  • Dad, Erika and Barbara talk on the lawn. Erika boasts, there will soon be a second Elizalde wedding.

Santi and Aurora arrive, holding hands. Aurora and Barbara stare at each other, hard, in a very significant manner. Santi says Aurora's a sculptor, Erika says "She told me she's a painter!" Santi: "She's so modest - actually, she's both." Lots more staring.

  • Far away, drunk Dominga looks for Aurora in the market. She squeezes a green pepper to death while promising evil things for Aurora when she finds her.

  • Fer looks out her window at all the guests. She looks unlongingly at her posies. She calls Damian's cellphone. "I have something very serious to ask you. Why do you want to marry me?"

"Why do you sound so odd?" is his answer.

He then has the entire commercial break to think of a good answer, but when the commercials are over, he still hedges: "Why are you asking me this just now?" "Why is it so hard for you to answer?" "Oh, all right, I uh, want to be with you because, uh, because you're beautiful, sweet, enchanting, what do you want me to say?"

Barbara slithers up next to him and hisses, what's up? Damian asks Fer in turn: "Well don't you want to marry me?" I didn't catch her answer!

Barbara demands to know everything Fer said. She barks at Damian as if he were her dog. She wants the two of them to go fetch Fer, but Damian reminds her he isn't supposed to see the bride before the ceremony, it's bad luck. "I don't know which of you is more an imbecile," she snarls, "her for marrying you, or you for ..." ugh, cymbal crashes obscured her last words, I hope somebody whose captions worked will fill me in.

Thanks for the quick recap. You are doing a great job. If you really want someone else to take over or help out occassionally I can. I do the Cuidado recaps on Wed.

Wow that was up fast. Thanks so much!

I think i liked the dress in the credits a bit more. The organza is very pretty.

I agree on Santiago, very charming regardless of the frightful hair do.

Isn't Erica in the wedding party? Shouldn't she have a dress. And when these people go for a ride do they all dress like a hitching post statue?

Ed needs to fix things for his friend. Give Margarita a job at his place and tell her to keep her yap shut or something!

Hi Melinama, it's hard to believe you are able to do your recaps without closed captions. Nice job! It doesn't seem like you missed much. Carla Estrada's background music is always so cacaphonous, what with all the horns and crashing cymbals and all. It's a miracle we can hear anything.

I like Santiago's new friend Aurora. It seemed like Aurora gave Fernanda's earrings a hard look when Erika gave them to her, not sure why. I loved the meaningful and venemous glare that Barbara gave to Aurora, I can't wait to find out what their history is.

Haven't seen this yet but enjoyed the recap....oh my, the tensions!!! Wow.

I was watching a DVD of Alborada yesterday and of course no closed captions, and the background music and water sounds were overwhelming. Fine to drift a bit as long as one is not recapping. I had fun digging through the archives to find your very first blog/recaps Melinama and enjoyed them greatly.

I find Mr. Moptop to be almost annoying as Meester James. And if only we could take some of those curls and glue it on Colunga .. sigh .. just don't like his new do at all.

I like Aurora much more than I like Erika. Let Erika pine over Cadmila and let Meester Santi get Aurora. She's cute.

Babs looks fabulous in all her dresses, I forgot to say.

Maybe she's related to Aurora somehow, remember there is some sort of family murder mystery in her past.

Are we going to have to worry about Dominga and that squoze green pepper or was it a one-time bit?

Thanks, Melinama. Well, this was a big night for me as a fan of guys in a crisp white dress shirts. There was Fr/Ed wearing a crisp white dress shirt...holding two crisp white dress shirt as he pondered which crisp white dress shirt to weasr to the big wedding. Nice. The actress playing Aurura is very pretty and is certainly playing a very different part than she played in Guaypos. I, too, hope Santi ends up with her now that she's fallen out of the sky and into his life. Santi's hair reminds me of something but I'm not sure what...Heath Ledger's wigs from The Patriot ??..The Muppets ??? Mozart ??? Also, the guy wears more bracelets than I do. And Marge has headed for parts unknown. How will Jacinto win her back? Maybe now he'll have to let her in on Fr/Ed's scheme.

Thanks Melinama. I replayed that last scene over and over and here's what I think I hear. After he tells her to go smooth things over and reassure the blushing bride he says, "don't you know it's bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony?", she goes, "stop talking stupid, do you think this is a real marriage?" He walks away and she calls him back in a grating growl from between clenched teeth, essentially, get yer ass over here: ""viendo el idiota que estas hoy, mejor que te acompano porque entre Fernanda y tu no se cual de los dos es mas imbecile, si ella por casarse contigo o tu por no haber sido enamorarla." (Sorry haven't caught on to putting in accents yet!). Does that make sense?

Other notables: Yeah, I'll like mop top, he's a good guy and apparently knows his stepmom is a manipulative bitch and is not intimidated by her, or suspects it but doesn't know the depths of her bitchdom: when he said Aurora was his future wife, mother of his children, sharer in the family fortune, ol' Babs honed in on her like a velociraptor. That creepy stroking of the cheek was like a kiss of death.

Y Margarita se fue! I'm glad Eduardo embraced and reassured his friend cause his first expression when Jacinto told him Margarita had split was like "sucks to be you, dude!" I guess the only thing he can do is reveal himself to Margarita (and thus Gardenia unless she's split, too) in which case the secret will be out soon. Maybe at least she'll loose that uuuugly scowl.

FC is tall, ain't he?

Khalilah

I like the role mop top is playing, the wig is atrocious, he looks like a slightly more evolved version of the cave men dudes on the Geico commercials.

Khalilah

Thanks for the succinct recap. You "brain child" has made the novellas a lot more fun.

I think that Santiago's "do" is to irritate Barb, they obviously don't like each other. At this point he is the only one that can see her for what she is!

Do you suppose that Aurora is Barb's long forgotten daughter?

rsk

Thanks, Mel! I was hopelessly lost last night & you cleared up some of the l-o-n-g conversations. A few thoughts:
1) anyone else think that Lucio the driver may blackmail Babs? Gardenia will certainly regret spilling the beans.
2) I'm loving the fact that Santiago is annoying the sh!t out of Babs but for the love of all that is holy, ditch the dead animal on top of his head.
3) yeah, what the heck is going on with the fox hunting attire? is this some bizarre wedding theme?
4) how long can Babs play the "Soledad is late" story? and how long can Nanda remain clueless?
[beanie alert!!!!]
5)too little FrEd, too much yadda yadda yadda

Maggarita
;-P

Santiago's do makes him look like a poodle. (No offense intended to Willa!)

I think when Babs stroked Aurora's cheek she muttered something like "your place in this household is more than guaranteed." Creepy...

When Ericka was talking to Aurora, I thought she was saying Santiago had been in love with her but the captions said "enamorada de denisse" I'm sure that's some sort of mispell, since I can't find denisse or maybe it's a name, any ideas?

I saw the word gay when Santi was talking to Aurora in the car, maybe his family is worried he is gay or maybe he is.

Lucero's facial expressions are almost as good as Diana Bracho's. It would be great to see them together, but who would play the evil one, maybe a joint venture in evil doings.

Boo hoo, Fr/Ed didn't take a shower.

It looks like Camilo, Natasha & Erika are dressed for a fox hunt, where are the hounds? But at least NO SOMBREROS & MARAICHI clothes.

Fine job, Melinama, thank you for the recap. For some reason, the captions were pretty poor on my set, very late and incomplete, whole lines just missing. Babs was certainly throwing eye daggers at Aurora (I like her- VERY attractive and a genuine person). Aurrosa seemed =/- oblivious to the daggers, to me. She seemed amazed by the earrings- probably never had worn such baubles before in her life. How gracious of Nanda to say that the dress looked a thousand times better on Aurora than on herself. How can Santiago be the only family member that sees thru BOW?
Khalila- that does make sense, didn't Babs say at the end that she was going to go talk to Fernanda herself? I finally see that Damian was in on the plot from the beginning, (to what degree-?), and not in love with Fer, as I'd previously thought. BTW- note to Babs- the inability to lie, cheat, deceive, and bully people does not necessarily constitute "imbeclie" status. Ease up on your "complice", or he may not be there when you need him).
I'm thinking that Marg needs to be told of Eddy's presence, Gardenia, too. All these people would love to get vengance on la hiena, and it's going to be fun to watch...
dorado dave

Melinama, A very well done recap, CCs or not. I think that the CC lady (or guy) must have dropped by the cantina for Happy Hour before going to work. I'm really liking Moptop (Santiago not the hair, although I'd bet that Isabel(Tontas)would approve). He loves his sister and seems to enjoy baiting Babs(perhaps a risky sport much like poking a stick at a pitbull-sorry Rain and Bonnie Belle).

Thanks for the masterful recap, Melinama. The drunk Dominga actress has been a sympathetic neighbor or family friend in several TNs, so it was a switch to see her being harsh and cruel. Maybe she'll start working for Barbibeotch.
Pasofino called Santiago "simian." Mi hija called him a "gorilla". The hair does look like something wet and dead was tossed onto his head as he drove by. I do like his knight-in-shining-armor to Aurora's damsel-in-distress.
Despite all of Barb's efforts, this wedding is not going off with military precision. I'm looking for more things to go wrong before it's over.
Is this a trend of wedding disasters in TNs? In Tontas, two wedding cakes have been pushed over onto the ground. One bride stripped and ran from her reception and the next ceremony was stopped by a cell phone call. Lots of room here for inventive mischief before Damian and Fer tie the knot.
I'm also puzzled by Errorika's riding dress. If she's the honor attendant, shouldn't she be at Fer's side, helping her, and wearing some flouncy pastel getup?
La Paloma

Santi looks like he's wearing Davy Crockett's 'coonskin cap. I guess he's supposed to be an artisty sort of hippy bouva. I love how he is the only one who pushes Scary Spice Barbie's buttons. Gee..if looks could kill.

Variopinta: I re-listened and Erika asked ". .sabias que Santiago estuvo enamorada de mi?" and Dorado Dave, I understood Babs to say she would go with him to talk to Fernanda since he was being such an imbecil. And you're right, I think my man is going to get tired of having his chain pulled like that. He sucked in a lot of air before he turned around. One day he's gonna mistake her for a cell phone!

And Margarita, Lucio sees the light, or darkness as it were. Blackmail, I think he may not be brave or smart enough for that, if he tries, he'll be part of the body count but I'm glad he lied for Gardenia. Maybe the maids and groosmen will be ridin' fancy hawses? and yeah, pretty soon Fernanda will find out Sole is reeeeally late!

Khalilah

Thanks Melinama for the recap. Carlos, you are right about that! I caught some boys poking sticks under the fence at my dogs and I asked them how fast they could run!

Dominga was Gaviota's mama's friend in DA. She also played the maid killed by Bertha's massive dog in Heridas de Amor.[She was the one of the characters in that show who actually had real heridas inflicted on her.] I love the way these actors are recycled.

Santiago seems to be pretty smart and charming. Perhaps he will recognize Fr/Ed and be in on it too.

I was thinking his new friend might be some mistake in Babs past the way she looked at her. Didn't she say she had a mom somewhere but didn't know her name?

Babs seems pretty willing to dispose of anything that gets in the way of her plans. A small baby probably wouldn't matter much.

I would like Fr/Ed to ditch the slick hair and go back to it longer. But Santiago needs a cut quick!

I get some random words flashing by in the non-functional subtitles (I've written our new friend Maria at Univision to ask if she can help with that!) and one of them was "cavalgada" which is, like, some horsey parade or procession. So maybe Camila is in charge of some fancy procession on horseback to be part of the wedding, and Erika thought she'd be at his side, hence her outfit, but he's having Natasha instead, hence HER outfit. Or at least that's my guess.

Yes, Melinama, the calvalcade makes sense of the riding outfits.
Khalila, I just tracked down the last scene on utube, and your take of it was correct. Babs did not say that she would go talk to Fernanda by herself. I think that I should review these scenes if I'm going to comment on them..
dorado dave

You know Molly, that some animals/insects eat their young! I can see BOW doing that! :-P

Hey Dave, these shows and this board are a blast! Between the recappers and the community of commentors it's the best language tool ever! We all help each other!

Khalilah

Khalilah
Tks, maybe my listening skills aren't so bad after all. Last night the CC's were way behind the conversation, it usually keeps up pretty well.

Babs definitely knows Aurora, that will be very interesting.

I can't imagine what Babs story will be when Soledad is a no show. How can she explain that Sole has been muerta all this time? Maybe that Soledad asked not to ruin Fer's wedding, with knowledge of her death?

If it was me I would have already gone down to Soledad's house to see what was up. To hell with BOW.

Connie, I often remind my children there are reasons some animals eat their young!

I'm with Maggarita, more Fr/Ed, less talk!

Melinama, I loved your recap, who needs captions?

We all keep thinking how is Babs going to get out of it when Nanda finds out that Soledad is dead. But I think we're underestimating Babs. She's very sharp, and either 1) Nanda won't know for a long time, because she'll have to go on her honeymoon, or 2) Babs will blame the death, and/or the lack of telling Nanda on some of the "servants", or on Annibal, somehow keeping herself in the clear.

She could even blame it on Damian, who might have to keep it quiet for whatever hold she has on him, and that would prevent Nanda from losing her virginity. Remember, Bab's mission is to destroy the family, financially and emotionally, so having Damian break Nanda's heart would fit right in with that. Sort of like in FELS, the original plan, to marry the 3 girls, then leave them.

I was thinking that even Eduardo had told the truth to Fernanda, there could still be a story.

He and she could team up to destroy Babs, solve the mystery of Cigarman, and spring Lili out of the laughing academy.

I really like stories where the main couple gets together and stays together and fights the people who've been keeping them apart.

This is fun too. It's just that I can't stand people keeping dumb secrets for stupid reasons!

Everyone remembers Santi as Meester James. But last night, he filled the same function as he did in his brief role in LFMB. Remember? He as the groovy, long-gone, soulmate old friend (Hippy Ed) who warned Fern (Fernando/a!)not to marry the fiancé because he didn't love her. He urged Fern to have the courage to cancel the wedding and follow his heart, regardless of conventional wisdom. Well, Fern didn't have the courage to follow the advice, but the wedding didn't happen. That sounds like a reasonable prediction here in Milklandia, too.

Who'd've thunk it? We got some serious cell phone hurling last night, but it wasn't Sergio Sendel! It was over on Tontas, Luc did a respectable slam, onto a marble floor no less. YouTube clip, time hack 4:15.

Thanks for the recaps. I got hooked on FELS six months before it ended, but my Spanish is limited to high school 1966 and what I learned while visiting the Dominican Republic. I now watch MEPS and haven been inspired to take Spanish lessons over the the Net. I appreciate the vocab listed at the end of some of the recaps.

Melinama, with or without your CCs, you understand much more than I do, so thanks for the informative and entertaining recaps.

Lol, Khalilah....One day he's gonna mistake her for a cell phone. We can only hope. Such suspense,,,when will Sergio throw/slam down that cell phone.... maybe it will be the final episode.

How long is this wedding going to take...it's like the longest wedding preparations in history... but still no time to visit Nanny Soledad. GinCA

Julie- "laughing academy"- very good.

dorado dave

Ah, I wish I could take credit for "laughing academy," but I stole it from Kurt Vonnegut! They don't seem to do a whole lot of laughing in that place anyway. Except for Dr. O. Bwahahahaha!!!

melinama - thank you for the recap.
What IS up with the closed captions? Mine have been pretty bad lately, and last night they seemed to be on a 30-second delay. Or longer. It was hard to follow and then read a minute later.

Like Khalilah, I thought Santiago looked like the caveman guy from GEICO ads, also. It's his chin shape, etc. He is kind of cute, though.

I'm confused .... The credits show Fernanda with a slightly different hairstyle than the one she has been sporting the past few "wedding day" episodes. Did I miss something?

doris

You know Doris I noticed that with FELS that they would show scenes at the opening credits that never happened on the show. Maybe that is the same thing with MEPS.

Good idea, Connie. I'll bet you're right!

It drives me crazy when they do that though.

...Likewise with Alborada. I kept waiting to see those great shots from the opening montage in the episodes, but they never showed up. I guess many of those openings are shot separately before filming even begins.

Great, great recap as usual Melinama and what a great story so far. The comments are also great and adds to the enjoyment of the storyline. It's good to see Gloria step up to the plate to sub for you. I keep wondering if I'll ever get that good. It is something to strive for. Would you mind sharing your background knowledge in Spanish. How long did it take you to become fluent enough to understand and interpret the novelas. Ever so often the recappers share their background in Spanish. I've never seen yours and have often wondered how you got to darn good. Thanks

Hey Betty, thanks! But I'm not very good at all. I learned with (1) a beginner's book; (2) the telenovelas and a dictionary and a VCR; (3) a trip to Costa Rica for a couple weeks of language school. Since then, it's just been reading, watching the TNs, and trying to find people to talk to. The other recappers are much better than I am. It was just, I had the idea!

Thanks Melinama, This is going on the third year of learning Spanish for me. I've tried a little bit of everything including taking courses, watching novelas, reading etc. I'm slowly getting there but still need a lot more vocabulary. I have a very helpful friend from Panama. I'm past the age where you're supposed to be able to learn a new language (I'm 61). But I'm determined to beat the odds (smile). Attending one of the intense courses in a Spanish speaking country is on my wish list but first my listening skills need honing. Thanks again for sharing.

Melinama, Thanks for the recap. I am enjoying this telenovela and haven't been with it long enough to be annoyed to death with any character yet.

I love the Santi character and his ability to get up Barbara's nose so quickly, wooly mamouth hair style and all. And just to show Sylvia that I have explained her comment to Willa, I have changed my profile picture to be a Willa shot again. Besides she has had her winter coat cut to a trim, chic look again so she wanted to show off.

There are so many funny lines by the readers in this list. I especially empathized with Susanlynn being charmed by the dwelling over crisp, white shirts. Oh yes.

This wedding is going to be tons of fun with all the pratfalls that have been set up. Damian does seem to be getting short tempered under his breath with Barbara's control. Wonder if he will take a cue from Santi and begin to rebel. I did love how Santi got right to her with the "at your age" lines. She is so proud of her beauty and youth which is after all only relative when someone as innocent and fresh as Aurora comes on the scene. Becoming irrelevant will be one of her worst punishments, me thinks.

Willa looks very stylish. She is such a trendsetter. :)

Betty, The age of learning languages is not set in a graveyard!! On the contrary, the best thing we can all do for our brains is keep challenging and learning. Learning languages is especially helpful for memory and elasticity. Learning about other cultures keeps us flexible and more sympathetic to mankind. All great brain exercises that we should practice everyday.

I heard that sad comment you just gave by a young man in his late 20's recently when he said his 30 year old girlfriend sadly didn't keep up with Spanish when she was young enough to really learn it. How silly. Afuera dolor, y afuera ideas atavisticas, tambien. Just enjoy, you are entitled to learn everything at every age. I know that is what I intend to do.

Connie, How cute, your puppy looks like heshe is leering at Willa with that big grin. Willa enjoys all compliments, especially when she knows she looks good too...

Betty, of course you can do it. I'm 69 and started studying Spanish, mostly on my own 3 years ago. Now I'm a recapper.

Speaking is harder because you have to generate the vocabulary, but you can build up a big recognition vocabulary (visual and aural) by using the closed captions, reading magazine (Selecciones is a good one for everyday vocabulary) and not telling yourself you're too old.

It may be tougher, and our recall may be slower at this age, but our determination is greater! Go for it.

Betty, Animo! I'm pushing 50. I took two years of once-a-week classes with little improvement, then I got serious (passionate!) about learning Spanish. I taped the show at night (Fea), printed out the recap in the morning, and then watched my tape with recap in hand. I would read what a scene was supposed to say, then watch the scene and try to make the scene match what the recap said. Sometimes with much rewinding.

In the beginning, I needed the recap to understand EVERYTHING. Two months later, my comprehension had doubled. 18 months later, I was proficient enough to be a recapper. My Tontas recap last night, I had to do without CCs and I survived.

Since you have a native speaker friend, GREAT! Take her out to lunch and try to hold a conversation in Spanish. It will be hard at first, but friends are forgiving! I tell people that I learned Spanish from two people: my friend Ana and Jaime Camil!

Thanks for the recap Melinama and your Spanish history. I think you're being modest b/c even without captions, you are getting all the important points and your humor shines through.

Thanks for the recap, CC was 30 seconds behind on cablevision(NJ).

isn't the main Elizade red house the same house where Damian lived in Mundo de Fieras?

they definitely play fake scenes during the breaks and before the show. I love that, it keeps you guessing as to what is really going to happen.

This is the first show I have watched since Destilando Amor which I got bored with. SO far this one is keeping me interested.

Betty~~~I teach ESL to adults , and I often have students from late teens to people in their 70s. My older students sometimes do better than the teengers I get because they are more responsible , organized, and industrious. Hang in there. Learning a new language is good for your brain...and your soul. Over the years, I've acquired a smattering of Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish from my students. I've been watching telenovelas since I stumbled into Alborada, and I've learned a lot of words in Spanish even though I'm not studying seriously. Any little bit of a new language and culture helps you feel more like a citizen of the world. Go, Betty !

Cheryl, Stormy is probably jealous because she doesn't have beautifully coiffed hair like Willa. She doesn't have much hair really at all!

There is nothing like a crisp, white shirt on Fernando Colunga. NOTHING. No comparison.

Okay, maybe a Cadbury Orange Creme chocolate egg. But nothing else.

Julie, that made me laugh out loud. But what about a crisp white towel? Really, he even made a big spray of mud look pretty freak'n hot!

Betty- add my comments to encourage you. Like PaulaH said, use your time with your Panamanian friend as a Spanish lesson. But make it a rule to NOT speak ANY ENGLISH. That truly is the best way to learn, by my experience. (Actually, the best is with what I call a "diccionario peludo" [lover], but that's not always possible). Good luck, and hang in there.

Anon...is that a hairy dictionary? LOL

Connie & Cheryl - right now I am jealous of anyone whose dog is potty trained!!!

Willa looks very spiffy in her Spring 'do. She is gorgeous.

i love to read all the comments after i read the recap.....i have two of my nieces hooked on this novela..... they have come over and started to watch with me and now they cannot miss it....and they don't have the slightest clue of what is being said....i have told them of the CARAY CARAY community to help understand and i think we have a couple more readers....there are so many things that are possible in a novela thats half the fun for me,
i get to my office in the morning and my secretary and i talk about what may happen or what we think should happen....keep up the hard work recappers one and all you do a great job........next time or anytime your in L.A. let me know and i will take you out for a burger.... you deserve something for all the time and work to translate.... Bev

Thanks again, MElinama. You hit all the high points and fast as ever! CC is driving me crazy also. Last week it was "test...test". Now it's delayed & practically useless, or it leaves out whole sentences. You did as well as any of us could have being totally without captions! ¡Ay! I'm not particularly looking forward to 6 more months with mega-delay CC.

Cheryl, I LOVE Willa's new look. Who knew she could be even more beautiful? (Actually, I would love Willa's look even if she'd had a fun roll in something smelly.)

Go Betty Go!!! The older we get the shrewder we become. Many of the recappers (myself included) are learning Spanish and are not fluent...yet. We were inspired by Melinama's amazing Alborada recaps and here we are.

glad I'm not the only one whose c-caps are on the blink! When they DO work they are an entire scene behind, which has forced me to listen harder. Not always possible with the crazy sound levels. I think you did terrific.
