MEPS Monday March 23 - I'm baaack, sort of
I'm back on a bi-weekly basis. I'm going to see if I can fit this back into my schedule. On with the show -
Eduardo and Steve, over the phone, plan Steve’s fake meeting with Damian in New York. Eduardo is worried that Fernanda might go with Damian on the trip.
Damian tells Anibal that he and Fernanda are leaving tomorrow, she enters and says she’s not going anywhere, she has to transfer Soledad’s body from the graveyard into the family vault in the hacienda’s chapel. Damian rolls his eyes without actually rolling them, you can tell. Anibal is just whining and acting like a jerk. Like always.
Steve gives Eduardo some comforting words on the loss of his mother.
Barbara is beside herself at the thought of Soledad being in the family chapel, what, someday she might have to be put in there next to her! She tries to get Gonzalo to agree that if it turns out that Jacinto and crew sent the flowers that he won’t let Soledad be put there. I paused right here to discuss this with my wife, after a few minutes we still couldn’t figure out how the Jacinto/flowers thing had anything at all to do with Soledad being put in the family vault. Gonzalo tells Barbara that he promised that honor to Soledad long ago, so that’s that.
The wedding guests are still partying, it’s dark out now. Vladimir is still working on Priscilla, who doesn’t seem to mind. She says the required bit about being married, but she is enjoying this.
Jacinto finally tells Eduardo that all the secrets are ruining his life, his wife left him, frankly he’s pissed off. I have been saying since the first time Ed said “ok here’s what you’ll do for me” that Ed has been treating Jacinto like his bitch and Jacinto is getting nothing out of the deal. I’m glad he is finally saying something, even if it is far too late to do any good. Jacinto tells Ed that Barbara thinks Margarita and Gardenia sent the flowers and the note.
Damian tells Fernanda that she hasn’t spent a single minute at her own party! Also that he has to go on a trip and the honeymoon is not happening tomorrow.
Fernanda gets on the microphone and thanks everyone for coming, but she found out that someone that was like a mother to her has died, so party’s over, go home. She asks the band leader why he played the wrong song for the first dance, he said the note came from her. He found it on his music stand. He shows it to her, it is typed note saying to change the song, with her name typed on the bottom.
Vladimir wants Priscilla’s phone number, she takes his phone and puts it in there for him, then runs off to comfort Fernanda.
At Jacinto’s house, Eduardo is telling Jacinto to go look for Margarita, not understanding at all the trouble he has gotten Jacinto into. Jacinto tells Ed that Barbara will kill Gardenia and Margarita if Jacinto doesn’t do what Barbara tells him to do.
Barbara calls Flor and tells her that Margarita and Gardenia will pay for what they did with tears of blood. She gets off the phone and tells Gonzalo that they are the ones who sent the note and flowers.
Eduardo and Jacinto talk about the ‘secret’ – just in time for Margarita to enter and say ‘what secret?’ In time honored novela tradition, nobody noticed another person barging into the room.
Fernanda enters Gonzalo’s office where he and Barb were, Gonzalo tells Fernanda what Barbara suspects about the flowers. Fernanda says it wasn’t them. Barb says then who? Fern has a flashback of Liliana telling her that Eduardo had returned.
Margarita isn’t getting the answers she wants, so she gets upset and leaves. I can’t say I blame her. From all appearances, Jacinto isn’t cheating with another woman, he is in a gay secret relationship with Franco Santoro. What else could she think?
Barbara simpers to Fernanda that she is only guilty of not wanting to ruin Fernanda’s wedding day and was keeping a promise to Soledad by not saying anything. Barb leaves. Fernanda then tells Gonzalo that it was Eduardo who left the flowers and changed the song!
Jacinto and Margarita fight outside the house, Eduardo hears it all inside and paces, not knowing what to do. Here’s an idea – don’t leave your best friend totally hung out to dry. Even if his wife looks old enough to be his mother, just not cool.
Fernanda tells Gonzalo that the song that was played was the one that she and Eduardo danced to like a million times when they were kids. Gonz asks if Ed came back, why hasn’t he been to see us? Fern says because he doesn’t WANT to see us!
Jacinto and Margarita fight some more, she turns to leave and tells him to not look for her again, to forget about her. Eduardo still does nothing.
Fern tells Gonzalo that he can’t say anything to Barbara. He doesn’t understand why, but finally agrees. Fernanda wants to be the first one to find Eduardo and tell him to his face what she thinks of him. I’m not thinking it’s “he’s so awesome” at this point.
We see some legs and feet following Margarita, no real suspense here – they are black dress pants and black dress shoes. Ed was dressed that way, Jacinto was wearing the latest in peasant fashion. Margarita turns around and asks our mystery follower, “what do you want?”
Anibal tells Damian to not come back from New York without a check in his hand.
Barbara tries to get all weepy with Gonzalo to find out what Fernanda told him, he doesn’t bite.
Ed tries to talk to Margarita, and in his best Lorena de la Cruz mode, takes a full minute to say what he should have just said a looooong time ago – “it’s me, Eduardo.”
Back at the reception, Lucio picks up some leftover Champagne bottles and gets to drinking. He vows that he’ll find a way to get into Barbara’s pants.
Fernanda argues with Anibal, saying HE should go to New York. She wants Damian to help her with the Soledad thing. Anibal says the director of finance is who has to go, and that’s Damian.
Eduardo brings Margarita back to Jacinto’s house, he says she knows the secret now. Margarita says yes she knows, but she wants some more explanations.
Anibal is appalled at the idea of Soledad being in the family vault, Fern says Gonzalo promised!
Barbara whines some more to Gonzalo, now that his kids don’t like or trust her. He still won’t tell her what Fernanda told him before. His loyalty to his daughter is deeper than his loyalty to Barb I guess. I suspect that he’ll not remember this at some crucial juncture.
Ed tells Margarita he is there incognito, the Elizaldes can’t find out who he is.
More arguing about Soledad’s resting place. Santiago and Aurora enter. Santiago says that Anibal is scared that he’ll die soon and Soledad will have taken his place! Anibal tells him to stop being a clown. Anibal whines that he wants the whole family to make the decision. I guess Gonzalo having promised it already means nothing.
Jacinto and Ed continue to tell Margarita everything that has been going on.
Santiago says Camilo should vote too, but he found him lying in a heap earlier. Gonzalo says to go get him.
Ed fills in Margarita on his plan for justice and begs for their help. He says they have to keep his secret. They agree when Ed says they can tell him when he crosses the line between justice and vengeance. I’ll believe that when I see it.
Santiago dumps unconscious Camilo on the sofa next to Gonzalo. Barb goes to leave, but Gonzalo says as his wife she gets a vote. Aurora leaves, a maid directs her to Fernanda’s room. Gonzalo repeats his promise to Soledad, he thinks she should be in the vault, but for some reason says his vote won’t count, the rest of them have to vote. Barbara thinks to herself that they are wasting time, her body will be rotted away anyway.
Eduardo gets ready to leave, but there is a knock on the door and he hides in the kitchen. It’s Lucio, drunk. He says he has instructions from Barbara. Once he’s in, he says that’s not true, he just wants to toast. He has a bottle of expensive champagne with him. He takes forever to pop the cork. He fills them in on Fernanda missing the whole party, and the flowers and note.
The voting starts – Anibal says no, somehow Camilo wakes up to say no and even though he can’t possibly know what they are talking about nobody protests his vote, Fernanda and Damian vote yes, Santiago says yes, then Barbara says no to tie it up. She says something lame about her own people being able to visit her better at the cemetery, so it’s not fair to bring her to the chapel.
Lucio says he wants to make a deal with Jacinto, one that will change his life!
Damian jokes that they settle their tie like in soccer, with penalty kicks! Fernanda scolds him like a child and he shuts up. Santiago says they should flip a coin and it looks like everyone will go along with this when Priscilla shows up and asks if she gets a vote, as a spouse. The answer of course is yes. Anibal tries to tell her something and she says “yeah thanks for letting me know” in a way that means “shut the hell up you loser.” She says her vote is………….
I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Also tomorrow – Barbara poisons Gonzalo’s nighttime glass of milk. He apparently doesn’t normally have milk at bedtime, but he gulps it right down anyway. If my wife ever wants to give me some drink at bedtime, which has never happened, there is no way in hell I’m drinking it. I’ve seen enough of these shows to know what that means.
Also – Damian and Fernanda get busy wedding night style, at least that’s what it looks like is going to happen. Erika asks Ed to do one more favor for her and he can ask for anything at all in return. She’s not very subtle it seems.
And just because I'm so excited about the new baby and my little family, and you have all been so nice sending me well wishes and all that, here are a couple photos -

Though you've been away your style and sense of humor hasn't changed a bit. I enjoyed your take on how Jacinto was getting the shaft in his relationship with Ed. I found it interesting that Fern added up that Ed sent the flowers and changed the song. She has a brain in her head unlike her poor father. ITA that he'll spill the beans about Ed to Barb at some crucial moment b/c he's a dolt.
It will be interesting to see if the marriage is consummated. Barb looked ticked when Fern tried to take Damien to bed.

It's weird how in Juan Querendon Nacho looked ]older than Yadira but in this TN Margarita looks a lot older than Jacinto. Go figure.

Ferro, wonderful recap, you have a great style. The baby girl is beautiful!
So, I didn't get the Erika scene, and I didn't get the Fr/Ed washes off the days grime. But I liked the Fr/Ed and Margarita scene. I'm a total happy ending gal, and she was so happy to know who he was and he looked so happy to finally get the reception he had been expecting. Who wants to think you come home after being banished for 15 years and no one knows you or appears to care.
I love that Fernanda didn't wants to figure out the Ed thing. She is much brighter then Sophia who would have taken months to put anything together.
I love this show. It moves so quickly, doesn't have fifteen minutes of the pervious night at the beginning. Love it!

Notice that Damian sided with his wife in the voting? Barb sure noticed! Maybe this is a clue about him switching allegiance (sp?).
Haven't seen the show or read your recap yet Ferro but when I was scrolling down and saw those photos I stopped dead in my tracks. SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. And what a wonderful picture of big brother holding her as well. He looks like he's a gentle soul who'll be good to this little one. Congratulations on your beautiful family and welcome back to recapping. Look forward to reading it later in the day.

Hi everyone. I'm back today. I haven't had a chance to read the recap but will shortly (hopefully). As it turned out our storm didn't hit until last night. It was a beautiful weekend for a funeral. My boss' wife died last week so it was kind of crazy.
Doris, I did end up sewing. I made a chair pad and coordinating pillow, and a duvet cover for my daybed outside. I'm working on slipcovers for my plastic ugly chairs and I have 7 pillows to make slipcovers for, I'm worn out just thinking about it. Then I have to build my pergola. I finished my spray painting before it rained at least.

Thanks Chris! The subtitles thing is driving me CRAAAZY (we have actually gotten a sort-of explanation through a back door, and it has to do with cost-cutting at Univision) and I don't know how well I'm going to be able to do recapping any more. You did a great job. I agree Eduardo has been very selfish in his quest for revenge and glad he redeemed himself a bit. I liked Fernanda a bit more tonight. Aurora has sure gotten an eyeful of the Elizalde dirty laundry!

My heart almost goes out to Lucio. He really has a knack for misreading a situation although he doesn't seem to lack confidence or self-esteem.
Who could have guessed that Nanda would be so shrewd? Quite a contrast with some of our other heroines. I am loving Santiago. His insistence that Camilo have a vote was so impish that I almost forgive his hair.
It's curious that Univision would blame the CC problem on cost cutting. How much more trouble could it be to get it right. Color me skeptical.

Last night I recognized Vlad as Alvaro from Apuesta por un Amor, perhaps one of the craziest most sadistic rat bastards ever. I don't think I've ever been more pleased to see someone killed than when he got what was coming to him. Surely he can be up to no good here in Lechelandia.

I think that Barbara is really sure she’ll pin the flowers thing on Jacinto et al whether they're really guilty or not, therefore ensuring (in her mind) that Soledad’s body won’t get to stay in the family chapel.
I've given up on the closed captions, it's just too maddening, and so I am "going commando a las telenovelas" .... and watching sans CCs. (my idea of engaging in risky behaviors....grin)

The voting scene- how goofy. Clueless, spinelees Gonzo doesn't vote (tho he already MADE THE DECISION!), comatose Camil-ho does vote, and the end up flipping a coin. What was the point? Damian really stuck his neck out voting yes. I'm wondering if he is ignorant of the danger that he is in with Babs, that he doen't know how bad she really is. Kinda surprised me that Babs made such an unveiled threat to Flor- the tears of blood- the least subtle action on her part so far. I think that she is on the verge of deseration, not knowing who her enemy is. I still don't know why she would be hanging around, she's pretty much done the damage she was "hired" to do, the Elizaldes don't yet know about the coffers being emptied yet, do they? I would not want Damian as CFO, he doesn't seem very sharp or conscientious.
I'm thinking that Lucio must be about to offer some info in this "business" proposal, but what could Jacinto and Marg possibly bring to the table? Maybe Lucio is just drunk and stupid. Good chance of that.

If cost-cutting is screwing up the timing of the MEPS captions on Univision, how come the advertisements that use captions on Univision have the captions timed perfectly?

Unless there has been a change in recent years, there is no connection between Univision and Telemundo.
Univision is (or at least was) a US Corporation controlled by a US person/family (I believe that is a Federal Law - foreigners ca't own US tv networks) Univision has a contract with Mexican producer Televisa to provide programming for years into the future.
Telemundo is owned by NBC. It used to have the great Colombian and Brazilian and other South American telenovelas (many from Globo Productions) - like El Clon, La Terra (Yes, not a misspelling, Italian name to a Portugues novela) etc. Then NBC wanted to start having more and more production done by Telemundo itself in Miami.
Telemundo was carried in Southern Calfornia on Time Warner when I lived there for 20 years, but has never been carried in my current city of residence - Kansas City. When I asked after I moved here five years ago why KC Time Warner didn't carry Telemundo, but Los Angeles does, I was told that Telemundo was the most frequently requested channel, but "corporate" had a problem with NBC and wouldn't carry it in Kansas City.

Re: captioning- I just leave the cc on, and much of the time, the American cc's have been useless, too. Just gibberish and blocked-out letters lately. I don't pretend to know how it works, except that it doesn't work perfectly.

Well, I hope Pris votes with Fernanda, so far she has been a good person. Besides moving Soles body sets up some possible Fr/Ed conflict. Shouldn't Edward have a say, will they try to find him in America? Will the moving of the body be what begins Fernanda's search for him. Also, I hope Nanda goes back to the hospital to try and talk to Lili now that she suspects it wasn't crazy talk.
OT - PaulaH-You got me hooked on Alborada! Thank you! I'm watching when I can on youtube. I had to back up because the early recaps are summeries and were encompassing a few episodes, so I got a little confused. But now I am in sync and really enjoying it. Love seeing Lucero in a different role. Last week someone said something about her wrinkeling her nose like she was going to sneeze when she cries, and she really does, it makes me laugh. Judging by the promos, Fernanda wasn't looking to thrilled about the prospect of a night with Damian.
I also felt that Barb was signaling Dam-ian to vote with Fernanda, because that was the smart move and Barb is diabolically smart. This was a family matter, not business, and Dam-ian would have had no candle at this funeral, so to speak, other than to support his wife. Anything else would have been suspicious.
But Barb is not smart in using Lucio as part of her plan, as he is indeed a loose cannon. He thinks he's cleverer than he is, drinks too much, and has the hots for Barb. Not good. Still, he's quite entertaining and could provide some unexpected twists in the plot as he's so unpredictable.
My favorite characters are Santiago and Fernanda and I love their sibling closeness. It's a shame Fr/Ed doesn't realize he's on the same side as they are. Aurora is also a doll. She must be thinking,"Damn, and I thought my family was dysfuntional".
I had accidentally typed "Barf" instead of "Barb" and then corrected it. Freudian, definitely.

I cannot get any foreign channels on Cable in my area im Michigan. I get all of my foreign channels from Dish - Arabic, Italian, South American Latino, French, German. There are a la carte packages. Usually one can get a free Dish from them if you sign up for a year.

Bonney, I think you are right about the resentment, we can't have them be happy soon. But then those letters still have to surface and then she will know he did try to stay in touch with her, and he will know she didn't forget him. Its all quite romantic. Wow so many comments already, thanks everyone. It was a bit harder to get back into the groove with the horrible captions, but luckily I had my Mexican wife sitting next to me for help. Without that I'd be lost, especially when Anibal is talking.

It's true, a lot of stations are having captioning woes right now. Univision's were nearly perfect for me, most of the time, until a couple of weeks ago. The ones on Fox Providence have usually been slow and garbled for months, and during that time I get no captions on Fox Boston at all.

i just watched the voting scene again, and still cannot decided whether Damian voted in defiance of Babs, or whether she gave him permission to side with Nanda. That was before the tie-breaking Prisa entered. Makes no sense that Gonzo didn't vote, I couldn't understand exactly what he said when he bowed out. What an idiot he is. Actually, what BOW siad made the most sense- that Soledad's grave would be easier for her people to visit in the pueblo's cemetary, etc. Seems odd that Soledad had been out of the employ of the family for 15 years; the only ones that had anything to do with her were Nanda and Santiago (What a smartass he's becoming!), she had become chopped liver for everyone else, yet she still has this elevated staus, doesn't make sense. Goodness...I wasn't sure about whether Damian was in defiance either, but figured he didn't want to lost his nuptial nookie rights by going against his bride right off....and that was probably what made Barb furious, in addition to not backing her.

Jarocha, are you here? From the weekend language discussions, could you clarify something? You said, "The worst accent in México is the chilango one ... most consider it to be quite ugly." I suspect that most Televisa actors are from DF. Do the DF actors have a chilango accent, or do they have something different, an educated upper class accent or something.
I have trouble understanding most of the people in my community (Norteños), but when I stepped off the plane in DF, I could understand almost everything. If I didn't become suddenly fluent in-flight, then the only explanation must be that I've been studying the DF accent for the past two years via TNs, but not Norteño.
If what they speak on TNs in Chilango, I love it. So clear. Comparable to the bland So. Calif. accent that dominates TV. I hate the blandness in English, but love it when I'm struggling to understand Spanish.
I met an Argentinian at the anthropology museum. Geesh! He might as well have been speaking Klingon!
One more language topic. Did you ever consider why certain words migrate into a language? I think it's a window on where the cultures interact. e.g. Latin got a HUGE number of scientific terms from Greek because they inherited all their science from the Greeks, and must of the tutors were Greek. The English words for animals and meats are different because the Saxons raised the animals and the Normans ate the meat. Thus cow and beef, pig and pork, deer and venison, hen and poultry.
I have trouble understanding most of the people in my community (Norteños), but when I stepped off the plane in DF, I could understand almost everything. If I didn't become suddenly fluent in-flight, then the only explanation must be that I've been studying the DF accent for the past two years via TNs, but not Norteño.
If what they speak on TNs in Chilango, I love it. So clear. Comparable to the bland So. Calif. accent that dominates TV. I hate the blandness in English, but love it when I'm struggling to understand Spanish.
I met an Argentinian at the anthropology museum. Geesh! He might as well have been speaking Klingon!
One more language topic. Did you ever consider why certain words migrate into a language? I think it's a window on where the cultures interact. e.g. Latin got a HUGE number of scientific terms from Greek because they inherited all their science from the Greeks, and must of the tutors were Greek. The English words for animals and meats are different because the Saxons raised the animals and the Normans ate the meat. Thus cow and beef, pig and pork, deer and venison, hen and poultry.
I'd also lay money that Pris will vote with Team Nanda, but mostly to stick it to her husband for not including her in the vote, plus all his other 'shortcomings' that influenced her 'socializing' at the wedding.

I almost forgot to alert you to an important cultural opportunity. If you have Trader Joe's in your area, they have a pack of four chocolate ice cream cups, with chocolate from four different countries, for $4.99. One is from Dom. Rep. and one from Costa Rica. Very, VERY chocolate. Good ice cream. I think it's important to get a deeper understanding of other cultures. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I nearly spewed all over the computer when you said that Margarita may suspect that Jacinto wasn't cheating with another woman, but that he was is in a gay secret relationship with Franco Santoro. Not to be a party pooper, But i think down the line Damian and Fernanda will consumate the marriage. Unless they divorce soon. This is not like the Sofia-Fernando situation in Fuego En La Sangre. I don't use the captions either. I find them distracting. I'm trying to read and listen at the same time.
Variopinta- true, Gonzo introduced Soledad as a memeber of the family. Then Babs fired her, pretty much banned her from la casa grande, and we have no reason to believe that Gonzo has gone to her house since the day that he sent Eddy away (the next day!).

Nothing new to add to the discussion, but just wanted to weigh in on the absolutely adorable pictures of your children Ferro!! Welcome back and congratulations on the beautiful addition to your family.

Here in Mountain Time they are showing that the Presidents News Conference falls during Cuidado then MEPS is shown at normal time with Cuidado bumped off the schedule.
If Cuidado is dropped fm the Mtn schedule, it will be dropped system wide, and they'll shift the other shows around. So Tontas and MEPS might move, but they will air.

I realized I just suggested that people wouldn't be WATCHING the speech (and listening in Spanish). Sorry, that was just my own preference...I'd rather read a speech than listen to it.

As for my personal take on accents: I studied Spanish first for 6 weeks at Harvard Ext. with a Cuban (exiled upperclass educated accented) teacher then arrived in Columbia to begin almost a year of wandering south as far as Argentina including 3 months on the Galapagos Is. For me at least, Colombian is medium hard, Ecuadorian is the easiest and clearest, Peruvian seems medium, Bolivian about the same maybe a bit easier with Uruguayan and Paraguayan back in the medium category. I have the most problem with Argentinian which does have powerful influences from the Italian populations that have lived especially in the Buenos Aires area where I was. In more remote areas where you might be talkng to people for whom Spanish is their second language too because they speak an indigenous language at home and may not have a lot of formal education.
I have spent time long ago and very recently in Spain being delighted each time when I pick up the regional differences which are as distinctive and separate if not more so than the differences in the various whole countries in the Americas. This last fall I really noticed how much like Portuguese the Spanish of Galicia sounds and even how it is written. But they used to be closer together too.
The past five years I have spent two to four weeks in Mexico each year and find it matters more how educated someone is than what particular part of the country they are in. There are lots of local words as well as accents to pick up everywhere, just like in the States.
My personal challenges and some accomplishments have been this year to try to understand Mariana Karr, the Argentinian actress who first uttered Caray Caray and led to Melinama and all of us spending exhorbitant amounts of time on this BLOG, (it was much easier this year than a year ago when I met her at her restaurant, Caray Caray.
Secondly, I watch Jorge Ramos on El Punto almost every Sunday and though he speaks a very clear educated Mexican Spanish, his speaking velocity and sophisticated vocabulary are daunting but becoming slowly clearer for me all the time. The 3rd area of challenge is in taking classes at the Cervantes Institute branch here in Albuquerque. The teachers are required to be native Spanish speakers no matter what country they come from and my favorite pastime and I am taking advanced/superior level literature and culture classes from them, going to El Grupo and Amigos de la Musica where I get to talk to people from all over the Spanish speaking world about 3 times a month totally in Spanish.
If that isn't enough, Netflix has thousands of Spanish language films and I am slowly but steadily working my way through their collection. Some of the accents in the Spanish films I could not get at all without subtitles. So I also vote for Cuban being the hardest with the combination of velocity and dropped endings. When I can get it I feel ever so proud... And writing well in Spanish is my current goal, the hardest of all.

The wedding was conducted by a Catholic bishop. This means that there is NO way that Nanda can marry Eduardo in the Catholic church unless she either gets an annulment from Damian, or she becomes a widow.
So if Nanda and Damian do the deed, Damian's going to have to die and then we'll have to start laying odds on the possible method of his demise.
Maybe there's another way out - maybe you can also get an annulment if it turns out that your spouse married you for personal gain and you didn't know it at the time. Not sure about that one, though.

Paula H.: The Televisa actors mostly speak the neutral Mexican spanish, unless their character is supposed to have an accent, also many of them are not actually from México City but had to move there to work on tv, like Silvia Navarro who is originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato, or Arleth Terán (Priscila) who is from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
And not all people in México City sound chilango, As CherylNewMex said, education has alot of inluence in the way of speak, since most of us learn to talk properly in the house and school, yet most of the people who have lived there and mostly interact with other chilangos have a really light chilango accent, even if they are well educated, that accent is sometimes hard to pick up even for spanish speakers but is still there.
However the one we find obnoxious in the rest of the country is the heavy chilango accent, in Al Diablo Con Los Guapos Millie was supposed to have one, although Alisson Lozz's own Chihuahua accent (where she is originally from) ended up mixed there too.

As for the way the words end up migrating, I think it has to do with both the interaction and influence that different cultures have on each other and it is a process that lasts years, some come and go, I remember chevere being used in the past here alot, that word came from Venezuela and it meant something like "Cool", but now the word popular word for that is "chido", wich comes from... the chilangos. Some other words stay though, and those end up being part of the language. But I guess the reason why there was so much influence in the past was because there wasn't clear rules for language so the natural evolution and change was easier and quicker, now that we have the guide of rules and institutions such as the Royal Spanish Academy, it is harder for the language to morph than it was in the past.

However the one we find obnoxious in the rest of the country is the heavy chilango accent, in Al Diablo Con Los Guapos Millie was supposed to have one, although Alisson Lozz's own Chihuahua accent (where she is originally from) ended up mixed there too.

As for the way the words end up migrating, I think it has to do with both the interaction and influence that different cultures have on each other and it is a process that lasts years, some come and go, I remember chevere being used in the past here alot, that word came from Venezuela and it meant something like "Cool", but now the word popular word for that is "chido", wich comes from... the chilangos. Some other words stay though, and those end up being part of the language. But I guess the reason why there was so much influence in the past was because there wasn't clear rules for language so the natural evolution and change was easier and quicker, now that we have the guide of rules and institutions such as the Royal Spanish Academy, it is harder for the language to morph than it was in the past.
Ibarramedia, I was really courious about the filipino movie, I think they sound a bit like Esteve, at least that is how they sound to me.
The Cortez and Moctezuma movie sounds more like mexican spanish to me.

I keep thinking there is something more to Gonzalo and Soledad Cruz's relationship that would further explain her exalted postition in the family, and Cigarman's determination to get her away from the Elizalde's.
Although it appears that Gonzo has been clueless about her for 15 years while under the influence of the Barbinator.

Jarocha, Your shared knowledge of Mexican culture and all the accent discussion is certainly another treasure we have on this site. Thanks for all your contributions. This MEPS moment is so perfect. The plot hasn't driven everyone crazy yet. There are villains to hiss at but most aren't really hate worthy yet (well maybe CamilHo but Lucero is too beautiful to hate even though she has no redeeming virtues) and the writers haven't resorted to filler so we are flying along at a merry pace. Whooopppeeee!
