Tontas 3-4 -Wed. - Hallucinations, make believe and pills to cure all ills...maybe

Ma hugs Ali and apologizes for hitting her.

Santi thinks he sees Candi serving him tequila. This prompts him to slam it and then when finished with the shot he sees Donato. Now, if I thought I was seeing things, tequila would be the last thing I would chug!! Especially if it made me see a funny looking butler. Santi flashes back to when he shared tequi with Candi and she told him it should be drunk by itself and slowly. He imparts this wisdom to Donato who takes note of it like an eager student.

Candi is chatting with Issy about buying the institute property, and wanted help from Issy, but the woman who lives in a palatial estate with multiple servants says she already invested all she had and she is left without cash. Hmmm. Isabel wants to offer her some jewelry instead but Candi refuses. Santi comes in and makes sure he sees her in flesh. Candy will find a way to keep the institute going. Santi agrees and invites her to stay for dinner. She thinks he’s being weird.

Pato chats with Meno and tries to cheer him up despite him being tired of fighting. Pato discovers Merengue.

Donato knocks on Jaime’s door. Donato wants to know if Jaime is coming down to the table. Right now he can’t. Don says ok, Jaime turns around and a vision of Santiago appears teasing him for not being able to make his wife happy in a gentleman's way. Soon Don comes back and wonders who Jaime was talking to.

Candi tells Meno she got the new owner to allow her to pay monthly but she tells him she would have rather saved the restaurant than the institute. Meno has resigned himself and is tired so they go up to bed.

Candi finds Merengue talking to her in her room. She wants to know who gave him the right to come up there and Merengue says that spouses have the right to be in the bedrooms of their spouses. She thinks Merengue is the only spouse that didn’t betray her. Merengue is my favorite character in this episode by far....

I think Candi is taking lessons from Paula Davila in Juan Q. She's sportin' some more cleavage for sure. Pato again begs for forgiveness and says he's the love of her life.

Santi cries to Mommy that he keeps thinking he sees Candi everywhere and she replies that he's only got her in one place, his heart. He makes a cute smile.

But, the phone then rings and it turns out Santi is calling and wants her to see him and give him a bachelor send off. She says he's crazy and he knows but he figures he's got nothing to lose by asking. She says she doesn't have nights of wild sex but she's thinking maybe she'll try it. Pato gets rocked at this possibility and kisses her but she says she's not talking to him. Pato finds out who is on the phone and tells Dr. Plastico to bug off. Candi asks the doc if she thinks she should go after the sex, she's there with Pato, blah blah, of course he thinks it's a bad idea. She tells him ot get a stripper and hangs up saying she's with her husband and is goign to take a bath. Pato says that guy only wants to bed you but I want ot live with you and our son. Dong!!!! Heavy. He's got a point....

Chayo comes home and finds the place trashed by Lalo and his buddies she is PO'd and turns up the music really loud on a sleeping Lalo. She tells him to get rid of his stuff and the fight about who really owns the house.

Candi says she doesn't know what she wants but she does care for Pato but it's time to go to bed. He says no, you said that when we were camping too. She's like, uh duh, yeah, that's what I say when I want to end a conversation. Konk! She basically says she's not ready.

Ma and Ali continue their mother daughter bonding conversation (not) and Ali ends basically explains she doesn't want to live alone, or live with Ma so if her hub doesn't come back, well then Art goes to jail. Ma worries about this because Art isn't the kind of guy to be pushed around. Ha no kidding....

More teenage type flirting from Pato, he has I love you written on his hand and plays that she has a birthmark on her face. Laugh laugh, cute cute, kiss, kiss... next.....

Meno is meditating. Candi tells him Pato wants to live with them. Meno says that's nothing new and is miffed that she bugged him for that. He gives her the book "Mrs. Flower" and her two husbands. He thinks she should read it and learn.

Santi shows up at the office to see Candi and tells her he couldn’t sleep. He wondered if she “did” it or not. She says yes. He thinks she’s going to regret this, how could she just because she thinks he does with Mari etc. She yells at him to stop because what she did was went to sleep with good conscience and Pato left after she hung up. Santi is thrilled and runs over to hug her. Lulu comes in to say there's a package for Candi. Snati didn't send it he swears. They run out. Turns out it's :a model hand with words of love written. Santi scoffs, body parts? Killers send body parts, what the hell?

Marissa wishes she had one because he never does such things for her. Santi tells her he would rather give kisses…he looks to make sure that Candi is looking when he plants a bunch on Mari. Mari knows he’s trying to make C jealous and tells herself this in the bathroom.

Lalo and Chayo split the apartment in half, and then fight over the various things they bought. The TV in particular. No Futbol and no novelas porque in their excitement, they managed to drop the thing and make it smoke. Ouch.

Jaime is muttering to Issy’s picture that he’s glad to finally see her because he says he's been under such pressure etc and well that's why he can't uh.... Donato sneaks up behind him and claps. he figures out the secret and offers a remedy because everyone wants Issy happy, right. Jaime agrees.

Arti tells Pat Ali had those papers, she showed them to me. Pat didn't think she had access. Pa writes that off to being a woman scorned. He worries about the Ma. He asks a weird question if Pato has never hit his wife and he says no way, why, and well anyway the subject is dropped but Pa continues that if Pato doesn’t go back to his wife Pa dearest will end up in jail.

Zam tries to pep talk Meno into doing something about saving the restaurant.

All of a sudden Toni shows up with a strange woman. Turns out she is the widow of Juan Alberto. She sorry about all the property but wanted him to have a letter. Turns out there were two and even though evil son wrecked his, she saved hers for Meno. He is sad he never got to hug his friend goodbye. Alma hugs him. He reads the letter and I didn't get much except that he does get his hug, figuratively.

Donato teases Tina and figures out that something is wrong with her so says he'll go to the pharmacy and get her something.

Lalo complains about Chayo, Santi complains about the body part. There was a bunch of stuff about bubis and what have you.

Sole goes to chat with Ceci. She says she’s in love and afraid to be alone. Ceci says to whom and Sole surprises her with the news that it’s Pato, the pop of her hijo and Candi’s too. Yeah Ceci is impactada at that one guess she's the last to know....

Pato yells at Ali for meddling. He reminds her that Candi is his wife. She smacks him.

Santi is apologizing to Candi for his behavior, he's jealous. He thinks she cares for him no matter what she says.He wants her to follow the arrow to his heart. He doesn’t want to lose her either. They smooch and it looks like somehow Mari rigged a web cam because the next thing we know she is watching the smooching and of course muttering curses.

Donato is preparing pills and saying he has to assist with the conjugal life to make the patrona happy. He gives Tina her pills too. Jaime sneaks up to see if Don got the pills and it looks like Don gives him the green one that was meant for Tina. Soon Tina shows up for hers and well, gets the other one...

Pato and Ali are still fighting about whether their marriage was good or not. He gets 2 days to come back home or Pa goes to the big house.

Turns out Donato gave him Tina’s laxatives.. the J man is all set to give the bone to Issy when he suddenly cramps up and runs to the toilet. You knew this was coming and somehow Tina turns into a rabid hound dog who can't get enough lovin' from Donato. We see Jaime cursing Don that he fell into the trick and should have known better and so forth. Issy wonders que the hell Don has to do with it all, well Jaime finally outs that he got a bad pill from him and that he was worried about so many things that he thought maybe he couldn't well...poor Issy is on to him.

Mari is watching the novela within the novela on the laptop. Candi is rejecting Santi, but he swears he'll call off the wedding in a second, he only loves Candi not Mari. Yikes, that sealed his fate. Mari says he's dealt the cards now. And that's it until tomorrow. Looks like we are on the verge of a wedding, but then again maybe not....

Thanks, Kris, for the speedy recap and the photos! It sure was a hopping episode, and it looks like tomorrow will be, too!

A few quick thoughts.

You know Santiago is finally getting serious about the final push for Candy - he ditch the scrubs, the cas' clothes, and that awful old-lady-goes-to-Vegas blouse from the other week, and sports a sexy leather sport coat. You know he's turning on all the burners finally!

Anyone notice the strange sequence thing? Candy goes to Santi's house to talk to Isabel, Isa & Santi invite Candy for dinner, you don't see anything of dinner, and suddenly Candy is at home and Santi calls her because he is so desparate to see her. Since he hasn't seen her in, what? 25 minutes?

So much fun to have all thos pictures, Kris. Really brings it to life. And I love that that weird Merengue is your favorite character in this episode tonight...what does that tell you!?

I guess the exposed cleavage is supposed to be telling us Candy is thawing out and becoming ready to love again. The blue dress she wore during the handcuff episode was definitely "Paula Davila" material. Hard to believe a woman that thin would have such a balcony...but so it is.

Our Paula now has another potty incident to add to her list. I could have done without that shot of Jaime.

Patricio and Santiago both seem to be gaining ground. And my goodness the closeup of the Santi/Candy kisses...somebody really had the zoom camera working.

Thanks Kris. Enjoyed your recap. Have a great day, amiga.

Kris,

I love that you insert the pictures. Very clever and fun to look at it.

JudyB, your comment was priceless about Candy and her balcony. You are quite a wordsmith! Bill Russell is just classy and we adore him here in New England. You must also have a soft spot for John Havlicek, a fellow Buckeye!

Thank you everyone for your good wishes about my test. I could feel your vibes, I swear, and did well on the exam! Gracias.

Looks like I didn't miss much with this episode. Hopefully I will be able to watch tonight, no micro class, but my Bruins are on at the same time, so.....! I do enjoy this show, I think it is very funny and love the actors, especially Santi. I only wish I knew what they were saying!

Have a good day everyone.

Hi, HOW do you capture the screen shots? Are you watching the show on a computer?

Thanks, Kris, for the great recap and the photos. I like the photos.

I have not been able to comment regular for this series, but I enjoy it more and more. I follow it regularly now.

I love Jaime Camill before, but now I am more appreciate his craft as an excellent actor. He makes me laugh. To me, he just gets better all the time.

I was going browsing through Youtube for nothing else when I came across episodes of Al Diablo con los guapos. I recall that novela. I viewed the parts where they introduced Candy and his institute. It was in the same set. I remember we were hoping for Las Tonta to come on instead of Cuidado con el angel. I do miss Al diablo. I loved that novela and hopefully someday in the near future get to buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I just want to say I appreciate all the recappers that do this show. I also am thankful to the commenters who I try to read their comments daily which sometimes doesn't happen.

Thanks for a grateful viewer.

Genevieve

Genevieve, Guapos was a ratings monster for Televisa and Univision. You are in a lot of company. :-) People loved that show. I guess I'll have to catch it next time., since I didn't have the time to watch it earlier.

I'm enjoying this show; it's easy and fun. It's the only one I'm watching at the moment. I have a number of shows recorded on DVD already and am trying to get around to them first before starting something new.

Regarding screen caps, for myself, I put the episodes on DVD and take the screen caps off that. It's better if the DVD is on top quality first, so the best picture possible is available.

Loved all the weird hallucinations; they were only in Santi's house, right? I thougt I was watching The Shining or something, except there was no redrum, redrum, redrum.

How sweet that Juan Alberto's wife came to see Meno, I truly enjoyed that scene. She was nice.

Another favorite scene, when Chayo and Lalo dropped the TV. They have good chemistry and physical comedy in their scenes, although they acted more like a brother and sister than a husband and wife.

Hey, I remember Dona Flor and her Two Husbands! But wasn't one of her husbands dead?

I think Art asked Pato if he'd ever hit Alicia because he hoped maybe a smack or two would shut her up, but by Pato's reaction Art realized that wouldn't work.

Violet, glad to hear the test went well.

Awesome recap Kris and the pictures rock!

Violet, glad to know the test went well. For the "balcony" comment, I have to credit the French. When they see a bosomy woman, they say "Il y a du monde au balcon" (the balcony is crowded). Great way to describe the situation.

Doña Flor's first husband was a libertine and died young from carousing -- on top of eating Flor's cooking, which was drenched in dende (palm) oil.

Despite the carousing, she missed him terribly, even after she remarried to a very solid-citizen, older type guy.

So she simply hallucinated him back; or he could have been a real ghost in the story -- and that it was his penance to make things up to her in the afterlife.

Flor continued having fun with her first husband while being married to her second.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this little side plot reappears after Candy reads the book.

Thanks for a great recap, Kris. I also loved the pictures.

I just don't totally understand how Candy can kiss either Pat or Santi so deeply, when she has conflicting feelings about both of them. With Pat, she's "not ready", and with Santi, she doesn't want to hurt Marissa. But instead of stopping the kiss, she allows it, and THEN backs off after the kiss. This is almost like teasing, which is not very nice to guys. They don't seem to mind, though.

Ed and Chayo are already going toward "War of the Roses" territory, by dividing up the living space, and destroying the TV by fighting over it. I have to admit, though, I laughed out loud at that scene.

I'm getting ominous feelings about the wedding, which looks as if it might be tonight! When people have doubts, maybe they shouldn't go through with it. Years ago, a young woman in my office told me how the day before her wedding, she caught her fiance cheating. He felt so guilty that he actually banged his head against a wall until it was bleeding. The next day, she sort of had forgiven him, but her father knew something was very wrong. The father said "If you want to call this whole thing off, just tell me". She said, "no Daddy, you spent so much money, and everyone is here, let's just go through with it". They did, and the two of them split up 6 months later, and it took them about 5 years of fighting over money issues before they got divorced.

Judy, thank you for the balcony phrase. The Germans also use a house reference for the same situation: wood in front of the house, i.e. firewood "stacked" outside the house.

But my favorite line about such figures: I once worked for a diet company owned by Eileen Feather, who previously had made big bucks on breast development products. Her figure was amazingly extreme, some would say ridiculous. D'ya know why her name was Eileen? If you were built like that, you'd lean too!

Melinama, when I do screen shots, I get them from YouTube. Not as high-quality as grabbing from DVD, but more convenient. Pause the clip where you want it, hit Alt-PrintScreen (that puts it onto your clipboard), open Paint or other graphics software, paste the screen shot into it, then using the "Select" button in Paint, encircle and copy the part of the image you want. Paste that into a fresh paint document and save it. Viola!

Violet, I implore you, don't miss tonight nor Friday. In the preview, Santi is talking to Candy on the night before his wedding. So tonight should be hot. And since they often put the biggest events on Fridays, and since Tontas typically has one episode cover one actual day, we might get the wedding Friday (that cap was a Fri. show on the Mex. broadcast). You just know the wedding show will be memorable.

Paula, I promise I will watch tonight and tomorrow and will even tape them so I can try to understand the captions at a slower pace. I hope Santi does not go through with the wedding. Should be interesting. Will we have Candi screaming from the church balcony "Santiago, Santiago" a la Benjamin in The Graduate screaming "Elaine, Elaine" to stop the wedding? I still think there is something fishy with Mari and her pregnancy. We'll find out!

I knew it was your post without looking at your name at the end. Eileen, too funny!

Thanks for the recap. Geez, what is it with this show's obsession with bodily functions ? It has even more potty scenes than Alborada where we were treated to both evil Non-Count Diego, the mayor's wife, and sweet Tia using the chamber pot. .

About the ghost...Isn't the same thing happening on Gray's Anatomy // I don't watch that show, but I saw promos for Issy seeing her dead beau.

Thanks for the recap Kris. I chuckled for a while when you mentioned that Merengue was your favorite character this episode.

ITA with you Hombre. I keep wondering why she kisses each guy like that and then backs off b/c she's confused. If you are confused, isn't it best to make decisions without physical contact. Perhaps she's different from me, but I don't make good decisions when I'm very emotional and kissing falls in that territory.

Hi Jeri, great to see your posts. I hope you are well. Dona Flor (at least the film) is pretty racy and it will be interesting to see if the writers really use that type of imagery

I love Merengue. I know folks think he's bizarre, but I guess that tells you my affiliation!!

Thanks Genevieve for your lovely comments! Glad to know that you enjoy!

Nice observation that Chayo and Lalo acted more like siblings, although I'm quite familiar with that behavior in couples ;0]

Yes, beating some sense into Ali might make sense as an option...interesting call.

I put in a link to Dona Flor for more info...

If Patricio were played by Jaime Camil, and Santiago by Valentin I-forget-his-last-name, would there be any question about which galan we would be rooting for? Incidentally, that casting would have made more sense, and I applaud the actors for going against type --especially in the case of Jaime Camil. I liked his beginning scenes with Candy and the ones with the kids, but as a case of arrested development/womanzier/friend to a bunch of idiotic losers (and a terrible dresser) he really is not very charming or lovable. If he were just any actor playing the part, and not the handsome Jaime and divino ex-Fernando, would we like him or root for him, or even be watching regularly?? I know I wouldn't. Just saying...
NJ Sue

Actually Sue I find him Jaime Camil/Santiago very charming and as I tell my daughter "the perfect man" (albeit imperfect). He is so genuine with everyone he interacts with. He's funny when the mood needs to be light, serious when he needs to be serious, willing to help so many people at a cost to himself. I think Jaime Camil/Santiago exudes charm.

Paula, I watched the whole thing at lunch. Loved the cat puppet, very cute. Got so into it I had find which recap it was so I could understand it.

Thank you

That's an interesting characterization. Yes, I could easily see the tables turned and the galans playing each other's part.

I think we are rooting for Santi because it's Camil, and it looks to me like Valentino is picking up Camil's silly antics and use of body movement as the show wears on. Lanus was always such a serious actor before, I LOVED seeing him goof off with Merengue.

I think them both. They both have faults, really very similar ones, as does Candi have faults, so either way would be fine.

I'm more curious about Meno and Lulu finding love. I predict Zamora for Lulu maybe...that would be fun!

That is... "I like them both" anyway, that's the beauty of these things too, I mean you can't just put any actor in certain parts because at face value we'd hate certain characters based on their bios.

The fact that they are played by familiar and much loved faces endears us to them. Trying to think of a great example, but say like anything Brad Pitt is in (although I'm over him too already) we generally like because it's him...used to be the same for Tom Cruise too until he went off the deep end (just my opinion) and well anyway the list can go on...

You know Judy - I should mention too that was a very insightful insight into the cleavage thing.

I suppose maybe that is deliberate and part of an overall plan to illustrate the "loosening" up of Candi's former closed off self.

Sheesh sister, if you don't loosen up with those two galans smoochin' after you all the time, you should turn your sights to Ceci after all. :)

Sue, who would we root for? It depends what music they play for him!

Seriously though. Were the actors reversed, I think it would be a slam dunk. Her ex-husband, father of her child, first love, his only love, in an illegal marriage to a woman who hooked him just for spite. In contrast to an engaged guy with a baby on the way, who doesn't have the calzones to leave Mar, even when she gave him a wide open door long before she was pregnant or even engaged. A guy who kept trying to play both ends from the middle.

Maybe that's why it had to be Camil as Santiago. With all the points stacked against him, they needed a heavy hitter to even the odds.

Thanks Kris, I'm just catching up with this recap after swimming through my own MEPS last night. I enjoy your pictures as a great reminder and of course always your fun insights.

I liked the widow of J Alberto too. She was as kind as her son was cold and self-centered. It was big of her to acknowledge that while she had her husband's heart, Meño had his soul.

I like how they are all starting to pull together to solve their common problem of being dislodged. Only Alicia seems still stuck on her SELF. Maybe she should date Juan Alberto's son, they have the most in common.

Kris, regarding familiar faces. The one who occurs to me is Will Smith. He's so darned likable, he could play Ted Bundy and you'd feel sorry for the poor guy!
