Tontas on Christina Show, Discussion, June 22, 2009

We can discuss the Tontas Cristina Show here. I don't intend to recap it. If anyone wants to summarize any important part, adalante!

From the Cristina web site, it sounds like the guests will be Jaime Camil, Valentino Lanus, Jacque Bracamontes, and Luis Manuel Avila (Sven/Zamora). Others might make appearances as well.

Jacque will probably talk about her new Televisa novela, Sortilegio. Jaime will probably talk about his next project, Los exitos Perez, based on the Argentinian Los exitos Pels. He might also discuss his movie, Recien Cazado which was filmed in Paris in late 2007 and will be released in theaters in Mexico soon. And Valentino? I guess we'll find out.

Tontas no Van - El Gran Final, Part 2 – And in the End, the Love you Take is equal to the love you Make

After months of frustration, the writers have exactly one hour left to bring love to the good, punishment to the bad, and maybe redemption to one or two. Could they pull it off? Let’s see.

When last we left off, Judy told us how Paulina, in full cat burglar attire, had swooped in and snatched baby Santi. How is it possible! screams big Santi, now home, as Donato, Tina, Jaime and Isabel are speechless. All they can think of is that maybe a window was open. Santi will call the police.

In a hotel, Paulina is cuddling the cute baby, telling him that the first part of her plan worked perfectly. Nothing will happen to our little tyke. But Santiago will PAY. There’s a knock at the door, and it’s a nurse, dressed in pink. Pau shows her where all the baby stuff is (diapers, bottle, I guess Pau has planned pretty well). Pau’s going to go out for a bit. The nurse asks if possibly Pau is hiding the baby, and Pau covers, saying the baby’s father is violent, worse when he drinks, wouldn’t you do the same in my place? Nursie buys this drivel, not noticing Paulina’s smirk on the way out.

In the restaurant, Patricio is telling Irene about his movie project, Veritas, Prince of Truth, wondering if he’s boring her. No way, Irene’s fascinated, she even liked Pat’s wedding story (when Candy stripped and ran). This is way better than reading file (expediente) after file in her law practice. And she understands Pat’s pain, but there were good things, too. He should remake his life. Pat’s not ready, what with losing Patito, today is just not a good time to start over. How about tomorrow? Irene says with a smile. Or the day after tomorrow? Always negotiating, counters Pat, also smiling now. Okay, he’ll try. Well, with that out of the way, let’s enjoy the evening says Irene, as they sip their wine and look into each others’ eyes.

Santiago is criticizing Donato and crew for not guarding the baby well enough, when the phone rings. It’s Paulina, who immediately tells him that she took the baby. Santi is stunned, after all the months of anguish he’s just gone through, is she crazy? (no comment!) Paulina says it’s time for you to PAY for all you’ve done. Fine, what do you want, money? And where are you? Pau hangs up. Santi tells the others Pau’s a mental case, he’s going to her house, hopefully she’s there. Isabel counsels calm.

Pat’s home now, relaxing with a glass of milk, as a toy tyrannosaurus rex (whose face somehow reminds me of Pat) is walking in circles on the coffee table. He says to himself he misses his short and squat (chaparros) monsters (the boys). He looks through contracts, finds the baby’s vaccination record (cartilla de vacunación). He first thinks he’ll deliver it to Santiago tomorrow, but why not go now, he’ll see “Patito” again. Off he goes, telling the toy dinosaur not to fall off the table, he’ll be right back.

Pretty hands are clutching a rosary, two candles are lit, as Candy prays that Santi’s baby is okay.

Over at Santi’s house, he’s just walked outside to the car, leaving a message on the phone for Detective Ambrosini, when Pat shows up with the vaccination record, along with Patito’s favorite toy, a funny face which is making little sounds, but Santi fills him in on the “kid”napping, there’s no time to waste. Pat notes that Santi is upset (alterado), offers to come with Santi to help, and the two get in Santi’s sportscar, our two incredible guys working together.

And now for the scene that had me on the floor laughing. Lalo is playing with his collection of little racecars, especially a red one, wide-eyed, looking about 3 years old. Chayo enters in a huff, Ed’s relieved, she’s back, hooray, but she proceeds to pick up a decorative plate and SMASH it on the floor! Wait, wait, that was a gift from my mother! She smashes another plate. This time Ed laughs, nanny nah nah nah, THAT one was a gift from YOUR mother! Chayo says she’ll keep smashing stuff until he gives her the divorce. Oh yeah, you think you’re the only one who can break things, responds Ed as he grabs her psychology notebook, ripping it to shreds. The two face off, her bangs in her face, their jaws set in determination.

Santi and Pat are in the car, having arrived at Pau’s house, but all the lights are off. Hmmm. They’re about to go in, when Pau comes out with a suitcase. They watch her get in her car, and decide to follow.

A feminine hand grabs a toy red car, and Lalo screams “No, wait!” It took me a year to get that piece for my collection. He grabs her laptop, hoists it above his head, and she begs him to stop, all her information is in it, she won’t destroy his car if he’ll spare the laptop. Fine, but you first, give me the car. This enrages Chayo, who proceeds to tear the roof off that sucker (the car, that is), followed by BOOM, laptop destroyed, he’s stamping on it for good measure. More general destruction follows, Chayo even spilling Ed’s cup of milk all over the place, both are going wild, and I keep thinking these two are definitely made for each other, it’s sort of like a sweet version of War of the Roses.

The woman in black walks across the parking lot entrance to the hotel, unaware she’s being observed by our two heroes. They follow surreptitiously, and see her get in the elevator. In the classic scene, they watch the number on the outside of the elevator to see where it stops. Lucky for us, it’s on the 2nd floor (the building’s about 20 stories tall, and we viewers don’t want to waste time, we want our wedding!). Some of us note that a workman is working on the other elevator, and there’s a yellow caution sign. The other good thing about the 2nd floor is that our boys can use the stairs.

Alas, Chayo and Ed are crying over the spilt milk, the apartment is a shambles, they’re both sitting cross-legged on the floor next to each other, he’s trying to fix his little car, she’s trying to put the keys back on her laptop, neither with much success. She’s still pleading her case, and he finally says you win. “Then you’ll give me the divorce?” He nods sadly. Tomorrow morning he’ll sign the papers. She impulsively gives him a little kiss on the cheek, then looks away guiltily, he’s downcast, defeated, she gathers her purse and laptop, and walks out of his life forever.

Our amateur sleuths have reached the second floor, but there’s a long corridor, and who knows what room Paulina’s in? Not to worry, right on cue they hear the baby crying. They walk down the hall, getting closer, closer, then they hear Pau’s voice. Why can’t you shut up the baby, she demands of the nurse. Sorry, the baby’s hungry, and there’s no milk (good plan Pau, she brought diapers, the bottle, but forgot the milk!). She’ll get some, but when she steps into the hallway, Santi and Pat see her and she flees. Santi tells the nurse it’s their (Santi and Pat’s) baby, the woman that hired her is crazy, they’re calling security, please hold the baby and don’t let anyone in. They race off in hot pursuit, Paulina has descended the stairs, and as she runs past the elevators, she looks back at her pursuers, doesn’t see the yellow caution sign in front of the broken elevator, loses her balance, and falls into the empty elevator shaft! Santi and Pat are horrified, Santi races to get an ambulance, and Pat looks down the shaft to see Paulina, flat on her back, all dressed in black, apparently dead. (Oh how far you’ve fallen, dear evil Paulina). But she’s NOT dead, as we see her eyes flicker.
The next morning, Pat is at Meño’s house, filling in Meño, Gregoria and Candy. Candy is elated that Santi has the baby back, and they ask about Paulina, is she dead? No, it was only the second floor, but there’s damage to her spine (columna), and she could be paralyzed. The important thing is that the baby is safe, and Gregoria even asks if Pat’s shoulder still hurts. Nah, he’s a tough guy.

At Santi’s house, he’s feeding the baby, telling Isabel that after what happened, he NEVER wants to be apart from his son again. From now on, his priorities are his children and Isabel, that’s all. But what about Candy? inquires Isa. Well, he’s lost her. Santi tells Isa that he loves Candy with all his heart, but she no longer cares for him. Are you sure? Yes, he answers, if she still cared for him, she’d put aside her pride and come to him, apologizing for going to Pat’s house and caring for him all those days. Isabel doesn't say anything, but her expression shows what we all know.

Today Charly has to leave for Germany, and the family has gathered to see him off. Meño gives his son a heartfelt hug, telling him how proud he is, asking him to write every day. Gregoria gives him a Virgen de Zapopan y la Guadalajara card for luck, and don’t forget, be proud to be Mexican. They hug as she cries. Pat’s there too, and hugs him as well. Candy is standing behind Chava, her arms lovingly draped around him. Charly tells Chava to promise to behave, and they high five. Gregoria and Pat agree to be friends. Charly says he’ll miss Candy, too, and hopes she’ll be happy. She says she is happy, she has her baby, as she kisses Chava on the cheek. Charly asks if Candy is going to reconcile with Santiago. No, she replies, she loves Santiago with all her heart (see above), but he doesn’t love her. How does she know? Because if he did love her, he would have done something to show her.

We’re at the family lawyer’s office. I guess Chayo and Ed are finally going to do it, the papers are ready to sign, the lawyer (or judge, I’m not sure) tells them all that remains is to decide how to divide their belongings (gee, I thought you do this in advance, but don’t mind me). Chayo says all she wants is her freedom. Ed tells the lawyer that Chayo can have the house. When she protests, he says she should have a decent life, and he made her so unhappy, he wants her to remember him with at least a bit of affection. Chayo says not all their marriage was unhappy, and Ed agrees, remember when we first were together at the beach? She does. And Ed also wants her to have the car, the car in which they kissed many times, he wants her to have it, to remember the good times. And you, what will you remember of me? asks Chayo. As tender music plays, Ed says he’ll remember her as the most beautiful, cute, unique, lovely woman he has ever known, as the only woman he has ever really loved. The judge interrupts, it’s time to sign. Chayo takes the pen, but hesitates. Ed takes his pen, he can’t do it either. They look at each other, and filled with emotion and love, kiss deeply. Well, says the judge (tearing the divorce paper in half), one less divorce, I now declare you husband and wife, you may continue kissing the bride. Yes! as we viewers (me, at least) thrust our hands in the air in a fist of triumph, finally!

In Pat’s office, Arturo tells how he’s paying for all the repairs to the buildings, the people will all be safe and secure. And he never realized how good it would feel to do the right thing. But now he’s doing it, thanks to Pat. They both say they love each other. Arturo says he’s not going to bother Pat, Margarita or Gregoria now. He’s going to fix all the wrong he has done, and when everything has been made right, he’ll return and recover the time they’ve lost. (Okay, we have our redeemed character!)

In the hospital, Paulina has a brace around her neck, hair pulled back, a bruise on her forehead, and Mario has come to see her. The camera pulls back, and we see she’s sitting in a wheelchair, wearing a modest red, long-sleeved top, a gray blanket covering her legs, her hands clasped together like Whistler’s Mother. She tells Mario she’s paralyzed. Now, HE’s going to have to care for her for the rest of her life. No way, toots, he replies, have a great life, see ya! Not so fast, replies Pau. If you don’t do it, I’ll tell the police you killed Gabino’s father. I know exactly where you buried the body. So you decide. Take care of me, or go to jail (o me cuidas, o la cárcel!) So Pau has her anvil, and Mario his. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving couple.

At the airport, Charly’s walking along talking on his cell, when he looks up to see Lucía’s beaming face. A full mariachi band starts playing, there’s a big sign saying “Farewell (hasta siempre), Charly. Lucía” with a heart behind Lucía’s name. They hug, tears streaming down their faces. They tell each other te amo, and kiss. They gaze lovingly into each other’s eyes, as the band plays a romantic parting song.

At the Institute/Consultorio, it appears Hortensia has taken up Lulu’s lollipop habit, as Isabel arrives, she’s a little worried about Santiago. However, Santi’s not there yet. In the other room, Meño is telling the ladies the latest gossip, that Candy herself told him she still loves Santi. Back out front, Ed and Chayo burst in, feet barely touching the ground, cancel all our appointments, we’ve reconciled, and we want to celebrate! They proceed to make out quite sexily, as everyone looks on, mouths agape. When Ed wonders why they’re not all jumping with joy, Horti takes him aside to clue him in on the one little problem remaining in our cute little telenovela. The leads aren’t together yet, and there are only 15 minutes of air time to go! (well, she doesn’t exactly put it THAT way). Sole takes Chayo aside to tell her the same thing.

But first, a little more good news. Emiliano is in Pat’s office, the movie’s done! Okay, when does the promotion start? It’s already started, say Emil, close your eyes, 1, 2, 3! He unrolls the movie poster, Veritas, Prince of Truth, Pat thinks it’s incredible. They’re gonna celebrate. And the movie debuts September 2nd. Hooray!

As everyone gathers around, Isabel and Meño compare notes. Meño tells how Candy adores Santi, but thinks he doesn’t love her. Isa says, same here, but in reverse. Santi told her he loved Candy, but thought she didn’t love him. Everyone agrees that the two are crazy, but they have to do something. Candy and Santi shouldn’t be suffering for nothing (sufriendo en balde). Problem is, Candy and Santi have a communication breakdown, and won’t admit their true feelings to each other. What to do? The camera slowly zooms in on Meño as he says it’s coming to me, it’s coming to me (ya me está cayendo), I’ve got it!

Chava and Rocío are trying to play, but she wants to play girl games, he wants to play boy games. Donato to the rescue, Isabel says to come along, there’s a surprise. Let’s go!

At the Institute, we see Meño’s clever plan. He’s installed tiny microphones (and presumably speakers, but the producers don’t exactly worry about that part) in secret places in Candy and Santi’s respective offices. Candy’s is on the photo of her and Santi on the desk, as the Institutas look on. Over in Santi’s office, Ed has attached a matching mike on Santi’s picture of Candy, as Isa and Horti look on (good thing they still have those pictures, after “breaking up”). Ed yells through the walls, why do they even need mikes, the wall’s as thin as cardboard, you can hear right through. Meño responds, well it’s not brick (ladrillo), so don’t push on the wall, or it could come right down on you (gee, I wonder why they’re telling us this? :)). Now all they have to do is wait for Santi and Candy to arrive, and confess their great love.

Santi arrives first, asks Hort if he has any appointments. No, she says with a smile, but your mother and Mr. Ed are waiting for you in your office. Santi thinks that’s a little strange. Next, a somber Candy arrives in her red dress, asks Lulu if she has any appointments. No, she says with a smile (maybe I should just cut and paste from here on out), but Don Meño and Chayo are waiting for you in your office. Candy sees Santi standing there, says hello, have a nice day (hah!). They keep looking at each other, but of course, no one says anything more. Santi’s sucking noisily on a lemonade, and Horti tells him it’s bad manners (and I learn the word for suck is sorber).

Meanwhile, Pat welcomes Irene (dressed in a maroon or burgundy suit, her short skirt showing some great legs, and a low cut cream colored blouse) to his office. She reminds him of his promise to start enjoying life, and she’ll give him as much time as he needs. Even if it takes his whole life? Oh, she thinks it’ll be much quicker than that (we agree). She moves in close, touches his cheek, and he takes her hand, asks her to give him time, maybe she’s right. She smiles a smile that could melt an iceberg, and methinks the boy is hooked. I sure am!

Candy is typing on her laptop, as Chayo and Meño lean over in anticipation. Candy looks at them as if they had a screw loose. Chayo starts. Is it true what Don Meño told me, you still love Doctor Plastico? The two lean over the hidden mike. In the other office, Horti, Ed and Isa want Santi to admit he loves Candy. Ed tries to drag him down to the picture. What’s going on, asks Candy. Shut up and listen, says Meño. She hears a voice on some speaker. Ed is saying, just repeat what you told me this morning, repeat it, repeat it. Candy hears Santi’s voice saying fine, I love Candy deeply, but she doesn’t love me. Her eyes light up, finger on her lip, she looks up at Chayo and Meño, both grinning, she sees the hidden mike in the picture, shakes her head, thinking, you guys! Okay, says Meño, your turn, tell me what you told ME this morning. Fine, says Candy, and in a loud voice, leaning into the picture, says “I am crazy in love with Santiago, but he doesn’t love me. Satisfied?” (We hear this from Santi’s office, as he looks high and low for the mike). He finds it, rips it off the picture, talks into it, it’s not true that he doesn’t love Candy. As the friends go outside the respective offices to listen in through the doors, Candy and Santi proceed with one of their trademark stubbornfests, each challenging the other, if you really love me, come to my office and tell me. Of course, no one’s budging. Candy gives him one minute, and the countdown begins. Each thinks the other is coming soon, and that the other is full of him/herself (se esta dando su taco). But Santi remembers the last time this happened, it didn’t turn out too well. All of a sudden they both frantically rush for their doors, but the respective friends are holding them closed until Santi and Candy say the magic words and give in. Candy yells that her door is jammed (atorada), she’s going to lose him. In the hallway, Raúl, Sole and Gregoria arrive with Beto and Chava. Also Zamora, Toño, Jaime, Miguel (one of the abandonados, haven't seen him in a while), Lucía and Rocío happen to show up. Also Carlos, Tina, Donato, and probably 6 or 7 more cast members I left out.

And just like the deflowering of a virgin, Santiago BURSTS through the wall, his maleness on hyperdrive. The two still avoid each other a few seconds as they count down the rest of the minute 4,3,2,1, blastoff! They kiss desperately, then lovingly, as the entire cast comes in, oohing and aahing, then breaking into applause (as do we). We get a beautiful close up, slow motion shot of THE KISS.

And bam, it’s the wedding! No ceremony, just a replay of the above kiss, then we cut to two hands clinking champagne glasses, as fireworks go off on multiple flat screen televisions at the reception. They’re in a huge club, all pink and blue modernistic lighting, even the floor is pink, purple and blue luminescent squares, lots of flat screens projecting various images. Pat’s there with Irene. The crowd yells for another kiss, and Santi bends Candy back for a big one. He’s looking amazing in a white suit, a silver-white tie, Candy looks sweet and modest (for her) in a medieval type princess gown with a peasant veil.

And there’s even more good news. Chayo’s pregnant, Ed’s going to be a Papá! Santi wants to be the padrino. You got it, bro!

Pat is holding Patito/Santiguito, Irene in a fantastic red strapless dress at his side, telling the three kids that the movie opens September 2nd, he gives them movie posters, and they all shout in unision, Veritas, Prince of Truth!

Pat and Irene stand up to congratulate the wedding couple, Pat asks if he can watch the baby during the honeymoon, and Santi jokes sure, you can have him for two years. Irene adds, not to worry, we’ll take good care of him. You TWO? ask Santi and Candy. Well, answers Irene, we’re just good friends now, but it won’t be long! Santi hopes they’ll be happy. Irene says I hope we’ll be REALLY happy, and Pat kisses her!

The dancing starts, and we hear the Tontas no van al Cielo happy theme, which we haven’t heard for a long time, it starts with “She’s a woman in every sense of the word”. We see Santi and Candy in front of the big screens, now showing clouds and blue sky, they agree they’ve said hello to everyone, now they can be together, just the two of them. Santi jokes about wedding food, Candy just wants to be happy forever. Oh how corny (cursi) is my wife, he says. My wife! My husband! One more big kiss, and our prince and princess live happily ever after.

THE END

Vocabulario Final (quiz next week)

Expediente – a file or dossier
Chaparro – short and squat
Cartilla de Vacunación – Vaccination record (cartilla means booklet)
Alterado – upset
Columna – spine
En balde – in vain, for nothing
Sorber – to suck (as in lemonade)
Darse taco – to be full of yourself, think you’re it
Cursi – corny, sentimental

Not to be cursi, but it’s been an absolute pleasure doing these recaps. Although sometimes this show was a little frustrating, the Gran Final was exciting, fun, emotional and satisfying.

Tontas June 19, '09 Part I Gran Finale "It Was A Dark And Stormy Night"...

Yes, it was a dark and stormy night in Guadalajara and a number of tormented, twisted souls continued to suffer and cause suffering. Some begged forgiveness and eventually gained it. Others continued their wicked, dastardly deeds and paid dearly for it. Amidst the thunder and lightning, there were a few glimmers of hope, love and the promise of smouldering passion.

Okay, let's drop the purple prose and do a brief rundown of the first hour of the Gran Finale 'cause I'm ready to tuck this baby in. Aren't you?

First, the rehash: Charlie screens his video with Lucia by his side. It's so well-received, he's offered a beca (grant , stipend) to continue his work on this subject in Germany. Will our two lovebirds be separated, just now when they've refound each other? And our favorite narcissist Candy is musing with Santiago that her sister hurt HER very much....oh and also you, Santiago, but nevertheless SHE(Candy) feels bad...but her mother will feel even worse that Alicia is going to be arrested. Run Santi, run!

Now the new: The cops arrive at Meño's house with a warrant for Alicia's arrest. While they're downstairs, Alicia is getting the final cruel brushoff from Mario who refuses to give her even a dime for a ticket back to New York. Upon learning that the police are at the door, Alicia completely regresses to the state of a young child, wants to hide under the covers and have mommy save her... but to no avail. Gogo tearfully drags her downstairs and off Alicia goes to the hoosegow, wailing "Get me a lawyer!" as she departs.

Another annoying encounter between Candy and Santiago. She's still mewling about feeling bad for Alicia (shouldn't she feel bad for the months of Santiago's suffering!) and then they mutually kvetch about who ended their relationship. Neither will admit fault and she continues the pity party after he leaves. "Not even he understands," she whines. (Okay, you know I loathe the character of Candy. Just don't expect me to be fair or objective, alright. She gives me hives.)

Patricio, on the other hand, is admitting to Raul and Soledad that even though he misses Patito terribly, no one should have to suffer like Santiago did for the loss of his son. Raúl admits to conflicted feelings. Guilt that his sister could do such a thing. But happy that the baby has at last been reunited with Santiago. And hopeful that Marissa has now found a peace in the afterlife that she was never able to achieve here on earth.

Off they go with Beto, while Chava curls up with Patricio and promises that he and his brother will never leave him....in fact they'll come visit everyday!

A brief foreboding scene with Rocio and Paulina. The latter is miffed because she wasn't informed of Patito's return....after all it's thanks to her that Alicia was located and the true identity of the baby revealed. She weasels her way into the bedroom and keeps agitating to hold the little guy in spite of the fact that he's peacefully sleeping. We KNOW this doesn't bode well.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot for a fabulous fiesta celebrating Charlie's departure for Germany. And Lucia thinks she's going to go with him. Santiago, contentedly rocking his son and promising to care for him 24/7, 365 days a year surfaces long enough to put his fatherly foot down and say No way! Maybe when you're 18 but not now, little lady. He reminds her that he's the one who pays for the house, the food, and her clothing-- so no unilateral decisions on her part! We'll talk again in a year, he promises....when you're of age.

Alright, we break for some AARP Passion Time... the last PSA for old-folks-can-feel-it-too.

Arturo's trying to persuade Gregoria to quit grieving Alicia's arrest and think of herself, her own happiness and come and live with him, Prince Arturo! She confesses she's fallen in love with him but can't follow through. He's done too many bad things. (think Mafia, money-laundering and bribing a judge to give custody of Chava to Patricio) That's over and done with, he protests...and besides I did it with good intentions. Nope, nope, nope....the past can 't be erased like that. I can't trust you. We'll be separate forever. Sad cello music plays. (But honestly, I don't think any of us were rooting for that romance, were we?) Just then the TV magically comes on and our aged lovers learn that one of Arturo's buildings has collapsed and the poor residents are homeless. How wise that you've rejected me, muses Arturo. I'm paying for my old mistakes...but I'll always go on loving you. And I adore you, cries Gregoria. A passionate (but mercifully brief )kiss and that's it for Arturo and Gregoria. One story line down and a bunch more to go.

Charlie's at the restaurant, informing Meño of his Germany plans and lamenting that Santiago won't let Lucia go with him. Dad explains that adults simply don't want their children to make costly mistakes and presto! Charlie understands and all is well. (our last miraculous 20-second relationship cure)

Another estupida Santiago/Candy encounter. It's still about Candy and how she feels bad seeing Alicia in jail (She went to see her earlier. Alicia thought she came to gloat. No but Candy did tell her no bail. The charges are too serious. So much for sisterly comfort.) Yes, Alicia and I are very different but when we were younger, the three of us (remember there was a sister who died) had such fun playing together, Candy adds. Santiago, taking a positive tack, says I can't believe that the two of you, raised under the same roof (techo) by the same parents are so different. One could commit this atrocity while you....... Candy looks hopeful.... Surely he's going to tell her how marvelous she is! Surely! But alas, he stops and adds, I won't bother you anymore and off he goes. She's disappointed. Another opportunity to be adored just got wasted.

Night falls. With a vengeance. All kinds of wicked dastardly things are going to happen while rain lashes, thunder rolls and lightning blazes across the sky. Are you ready?

Arturo has left Meño's place and is now at Patricio's. The latter and Margarita are double-teaming old dad, telling him what a dreadful old reprobate he is. No forgiveness for you Pops! not until you make good on those wretched buildings. You've got a lot of money. Fix them up so people can live in them, even if it takes your last centavo, insists Pato. Arturo looks shocked at the idea. But Patricio wastes no time. He calls the sexy lawyer, Irene, asks her to come over and Dad caves. I'll do what you ask, he concedes. Perfect.

Meanwhile, a more tender father/son conversation is going on between little Santi and big Santi. Papa informs bébé that he was dying to tell Candy how marvelous she is (Candy was dying to hear those words also) but he didn't. Suddenly the lights go out. Then they come back on. But we KNOW something bad is going to happen. It's foreshadowing out the wazoo.

Now we're at the ruined building. Angry frantic people pulling their belongings out. Arturo promising to take them to comfortable lodgings until the building can be repaired. Policemen coming to arrest Arturo but waved off by sexy Irene because they don't have an arrest warrant. She smiles and purses her lips. Ay yi yi....Patricio...good things are comin' baby. Just hang in there.

Plans continue for Charlie's going away party and the whole gang (think whole cast) will be there. Santiago doesn't want to leave the baby and doesn't want to see Candy but Isabella insists that he can put his son in Tina and Donato's care for 30 minutes at least!...and besides, Lucia wants him there.

Well, I said everyone was going to be there, but it turns out two of them, Patricio and Irene (now in a sexy off the shoulder black top) are having a quiet dinner together. He's thanking her for coming out on a rainy night when she could have stayed in bed, watching a movie and eating a pizza. She opines that rainy nights are romantic and she did it all for him. Whoops. Too fast there, sister. Patricio quickly adds that romantic nights scare him. And goes on to tell how Candy was the great love of his life, perfect in every way (NOT! sez I) and how he's been unable to forget her. Clever lawyer babe counters by saying it's wrong to try and forget people. Rather one should learn to live with one's memories and then move on. Ah, but he could never fall in love again, he protests. That's because you don't want to, she replies. The lights go out. Then they come back on. Symbolic of a new beginning and a new dawn? You betcha. They clink glasses, lock eyes and toast each other with "Salud".

Bueno. One relationship ended (Gregoria and Arturo). Another beginning (Patricio and Irene).
In the meantime Charlie's party is going full swing and Santiago and Candy are looking like they might get together, when bloodsucking leech Paulina inserts herself between the two and latches onto Santi. He swats her off like the unwanted pest she is and lo, another vengeance plot is hatched. Paulina, echoing Marissa's words, vows to make him pay for what he did to her.

The lights are going out again at the house where Tina and Donato are hovering over the adorable baby. Tina sends Donato off for a bottle while she keeps vigil. But lightning strikes and he's scared. So he drags her with him (the baby will be alright for a moment, he protests) and right then Paulina, dressed in black like a cat burglar, swoops in and carries off baby Santi.

Meanwhile, the Charlie party continues full swing. Lots of sweet kisses between him and Lucia while the Mariachis play and everybody goes whoo-hoo. The dancing begins and Candy and Santiago, at opposite ends of the table, look at each other. She's running her finger around the lip of her glass (An unconscious gesture I know can drive men wild. Don't ask.) and he beckons her to come to him. She refuses. He indicates he's willing to come halfway. He asks about her sister. She's playing the same tune. ME duele mucho (I'M very upset).

And while we'd love to natter on about Candy's feelings.... wah wah wah.... feelings....We're far too upset because Paulina is heading off to God knows where with Santi's baby!!!!

And that's it for the first part.

Vocabulario:

beca = scholarship, grant
arrugarse = (lit. to wrinkle up, to get wrinkled) but means to put up with something, accept something. This verb came up when Santiago was having a little one-sided chat with his infant son.
en balde = in vain
darse su taco = I'm guessing on this one. Candy is musing that with men "se da su taco" and I'm thinking it means "give him his way" or "have to get their way", but I could be wrong. Native speakers or wiser folks....correction? Yes! Here's the correction, thanks to Hombre. darse su taco, or darse mucho taco means "he really thinks he's 'it'"

Dicho of the Day:

Matrimonio y mortaja, del cielo baja. (Literally, marriage and the shroud come from heaven.)
Marriage and death happen when God decides it's time; one has nothing to do with the decision.

Well, Marissa has fallen to her death. Not in her plans I'm sure. But will Candy and Santiago make it to the altar? Stick around for Hombre's recap and find out what the good Lord decides.

Las Tontas Thursday 6/18 - Patito finds his Papa in the penultimate performance

NOTE: I took a peek at youtube to see which scenes were cut out from last night's episode. They were all that lame story line about Jaime and Isa competing, getting fired, etc. What a bore. I guess I take back my snide remarks about the editors not knowing their job. OK, it's off my chest now.

Santi paces and discusses with mom and padrastro how to get proof that the little duck is his. They agree that Alicia is a muy mala persona. Santi is sure that if Pat is faced with the truth he will do the right thing.

Pato hisses his loathing to Alicia, "estas loca!!" Candy arrives with cara impactada and Alicia accuses Candy of coordinating this as vengeance against her. They all (Pat, Margarita, Candy) call Alicia loca and it pisses Al off. She no longer has a lover and she is alone, ALONE!

Pau is so very happy for Santiago that she takes full credit for finding Patito. Isa gazes at her with a jaundiced eye as Pau pets Santiago. Jaime reminds Pau not to forget the detective and the MONEY also helped.

Pato hugs Patito and tells him how much he loves him. He and Margarita cry. Pato cries that all his sons are being taken away from him and he believes nobody! Candy assures him Santi would not make such a thing up.

Alicia explains to Pat how Marissa gave Patito to her. Candy can no longer bear the weeping and leaves the room. "I'll be back later for Chava." Way to have a heart there Candy.

Alone in their room Isa tells Jaime she would like Paulina out of their lives for good. (You and me both, sister!) Charly calls Isa to ask where Lucia went. Daniela is with him and they go to look for Lucia at Domani. These two have something up their sleeves.

Stupid Fede shows up at Domani which is some sort of dance club, throws back a shot and accosts Lucia. She and her girlfriends rebuff him. Sisterhood is powerfull dumbass.

Pato breaks the news to his older sons that Patito is really the son of Santiago and the brother of Rocio. They think it's horrible and they don't want the little guy to leave. They decide to pray that Patito remains their brother.

Candy visits Santi to tell him she just came from Pat's house where Al admitted that Marissa gave her the baby and Patito is Santiago's son. Hooray! They hug and Pau tries, unsuccessfully, to look happy, heh heh.

Fede, with another drink in his hand, continues to stalk Lucia at Domani. Charly shows up with Daniela; aha the plan is to make Lucia jealous. The nice kids more or less dance, if you can call it that, looking befuddled at the mistmatched pairings, while Fede watches.

Santi thanks Candy for the good news. She reminds him that Pat is destroyed. "Such is life," comments Santi, but I'm sure he'll be more sensitive than he sounds. Candy says she has to go, Santi beams, they all thank her profusely, and a jealous Pau tries to assess her role in this new development.

Mags tells Pato to be calm but he glares at Alicia as if he wants to rip her stupid head off. She tries to explain she did it for love blah blah blah. He tells her first she destroyed his relationship with Candy the love of his life and now she used a child for her own purposes to try to get him to leave Candy. Patito was his life and now he will lose him! He doesn't want Alicia near him, she stole his child and destroyed his life. Vete!

Alicia and her suitcase leave as Pat weeps and asks God why he has to take away everything he loves.

Isa scolds Pau, Santi has his son but thanks to her Rocio is not his daughter. Pau claims she lied to Isa and to Mario too and she's happy to prove it with a DNA test. Isa tells Pau to fahgeddaboudit, Rocio will always be Santi's daughter and her granddaughter. Ptah! (to quote Mike)

I think the younguns are still dancing at Domani (but it's dark so I guess they are inside now) and a drunk Fede throws himself on Lucia. She pushes him away and of course Charly jumps in to save her. It looks like Charly's plan worked. Lucia is jealous and Daniela prepares to leave, her job is done. Charly and Dan have been there for hours and he just now asks her how are things with her dad? "He has accepted my disease," confirms Daniela happily. OK Daniela's story is done, let's move forward with the others...

Charly and Lucia kiss and make up.

Pato calls Santi and asks him to come by the house the next morning. (Man, if I were Santi I would want to run right over but I suppose he's going to give Pato one more night with Patito. I'm not sure I would be that trusting.)

Candy and Chava arrive home and the doorbell rings. She's baaaaaaack...again. Chava is glad to see his Tia, Candy not so much. Greg happily hugs her daughter and Al asks if she can stay there for a while. Doesn't anybody ever ask Meño permission to do stuff in his house?

Next morning Santi shows up at Pat's house. Pat says based on what Alicia told him Santi is entirely justified in doing a DNA test for both his and Patito's benefit. They agree they have both been victims in this whole thing. Santi gives Pat a man-hug. (Ouch! Sore shoulder!)

Pato's lovely lawyer (who, as discussed, looks too much like Licenciada Paula) sits at her desk huffing impatiently. She asks her secretary if Licenciado Patricio has called. Yes she knows it's the billionth time she has asked but it has to do with The Case. Right.

Yo Carlos, check it out...A few days later: At the big house Santi shows his family a document, results of the DNA test. Patito is his son!!! Pat and Mags arrive with Patito. It's hard for Pat but he's great about it, "Santiago, here is your baby," and Patito is handed from one loving father to the other. Readers, will you think me a complete putz if I admit I got tears in my eyes over this scene?

Meño scolds Gogo for allowing Al to stay in HIS house! He's about to tell Gogo what Al did but Candy gives him the stink eye. Alone, she tells him that her mom has suffered enough, keep it quiet.

Al, in a very good mood, joins them for breakfast. Was she hallucinating or were they talking badly about her? Gogo says Meño is just grumpy (cascarrabias). Al says something about joining her boyfriend Mario. (Huh? I thought she said she was alone.) They bicker stupidly and she decides to eat in her room because of all the sourpusses. She can't wait to leave! Meño says that will be a miracle.

Rocio holds the baby and asks shouldn't his name be Santiaguito? (Frankly I prefer little duck to little saint but nobody asked me.) Santi thanks Pat and asks him to be Patito's godfather. While Santi's daughters coo over Patito Pat gives Santi the documents and his lawyer's card (her name is Irene); they do another man-hug.

Santi moves the crib into his room. Donato suggests he get a babysitter (niñera). Santi is insulted, he'll care for the baby himself. The ladies of the house tease him about knowing how to care for a baby. He points to Rocio, "Who do you think cared for this wet rat when she was a baby?" (Rata de mojada = wet rat) Rocio thinks this is hilarious.

Charly phones Lucia and they call each other "mi amor". They can't believe they are novios again; they decide to tell their families and plan to meet later.

The beautiful lawyer Irene goes to Pat's house because she never heard back from him. Beto and Chava explain to her that Patito is now Santiaguito and Rocio's brother. Pat arrives and she tells him how sorry she is. My my, she gives him a sweet, comforting hug. He's still not biting but let's give him time.

Lucia sits Isa and Santi down to tell them she has a novio. Isa and Santi are impactados. Isa is tentatively happy and look, Santiaguito says congratulations. NO NO, say Santi, Santiaguito says his father needs to know who this is. He is suspicious because he thinks it's the alcoholic Fede. Lucia happily tells them it's Charly; the grownups are impactados again.

Charly tells his family the novio news and they are all excited except for the bored Alicia. Meño reminds Charly to be vigilant about not transmitting his disease and Al's ears perk up. When Charly tells her he is HIV positive she recoils. Meño points out to Alicia the only danger in the house is Alicia.

Isa and Santi hem and haw and are far from ecstatic about Lucia's news.

Santi calls Licenciada Irene so she can help him get a new birth cert for the kid. She says no problem but there also another issue. Alicia committed a very serious crime and therefore he should press charges. Oooooooh...way to go Licenciada! I knew she could take Alicia.

Over at the instituto the institutas talk about going international. Horti cackles and seems a bit jealous. Ceci wants to open the Paris office. Chayo wants the Cuban sector. Lulu wants England, Hungary and the United Arab Emirates. Candy shows up and they tell her the great news, three states have contacted them about opening institutos like theirs. They are famous! "Better yet," says Candy, "we will help many more women receive help." Egad she's pompous.

Pat tells a rapt Licenciada about his boring history with Candy and about his kids that he seems to be losing one by one. She tells him to fight for his place in the world. He says he'll try but "no esta sexy". Sheesh give it a break dude. She wants him to think of her not as his lawyer but as his friend. Come on Pat, admit it, wouldn't that be más sexy?

Lucia tells Charly that her family was fine with their news; a bit of a white lie that. He wants her to join him to meet some people from the congreso internacional del SIDA who are interested in his video.

Santi goes to Candy's office to pay the rent. He starts to leave but at the smallest word from her he excitedly tells her that Pat turned over Patito. They almost hug but stop themselves, the sillies. He tells her he's going to file charges against Alicia.

No puede ser! Raul and Sole survived the plane trip home and are at Pato's door. They have come to liberate him from the torture that is Beto. Pato shows them his bandaged hand. Yep, it was Beto and Chava. Oh sure, blame it on the kids.

Santi explains to Candy that he's going to file charges against Alicia. Pato's lawyer said Alicia paid money for a kid and broke the law. "Are you going to nark on her?" asks Candy. (La va a denunciar?)

A group of suits watch Charly's documentary. Surprisingly he's wearing one of his crappy t-shirts for this important presentation. The suits don't mind; they offer him a scholarship to Germany where he can continue his research and become an expert on the subject. It's a miracle!!

Candy doesn't want her sister to suffer but she is most worried about how Alicia's arrest will affect her mother.

Speaking of which, Gogo answers her door. The cops have come to arrest Alicia. Yeeehaw!

Tomorrow: Only two hours to tie up all the loose ends.

At one point in the episode Meño refers to Alicia as a mule. This reminded me of one of my favorite dichos and it certainly describes Alicia: "Otra vez la burra al trigo" = once again the female donkey goes to the wheat, i.e. some people [do the same stuff over and over and] never learn.

Tontas no Van al Cielo - Wed. 6-17 -Well at least one tonta finally went to el cielo,or is that el infierno? ;0)

Thanks for your patience.....

Ok, so we see that Santiago is home. He calls Raul...so we know he and Sole didn't crash in their plane...I think they disappeared because he had to go over to Mexico City to start recording MEPS.... Santi tells him his sister has gone off to cielo or infierno, we can probably guess which one, eh?

Next we see Pau calling the detective and handing over the address she has for Mario where she says Alicia is.

Now Santi is back in his consultorio discussing surgery with a woman. He directs her out of the office by passing by the room with all the native dances, the room with the psychologist in it, the room with the make up artist and eventually she'll find the reception. Ha Ha.

OK, then he gets a call from Escott the detective who is apparently in NY (but it looks a lot more like a building in Guad...way too many trees and random "STOP" sign props stuck on light poles on the wrong side of the street...hysterical) at the address Pau gave him but Alicia doesn't live there anymore. It's going to take more time to find him.

Candi writes her column and Santi barges in then corrects himself, he tells her that Mari is dead and he knows nothing of his son. he says the only person who has a piece on his son is Alicia...he tells her the story and his suspicion of how "coincidental it is that Mari went away and Ali showed up with a baby....uh, yeah.... Candi can't believe it.

Pato is working at home with Patito. he's taking a call, and then starts looking through some papers. He comes upon the birth certificate of Pato and studies it - he notices that he and Ali are listed as the parents.

Candi continues her chat with Santi that this is going to be difficult with Pat, and what if you are wrong. DNA test to the rescue!! Santi says that's how they will know. Candi guesses he wants her to find Ali.

Pato and Marg discuss that Ali should have brought adoption papers and not a birth certificate with them as biological parents. Ruh roh....

Candi and Sant i keep chatting, he won't obligate her to look for her sister since they are over, awkward moments, she tells him that she got custody and marg is back so she doesn't have to go back. They high five and hug, she'll miss going there and seeing Pat most. Drama music.

Pat and MArg continue discussing this certificate oddity. Marg says it's probably false but what difference does it make, enjoy the kid.

Next we see a break down and Candi and Santi comes running out of the room. Arguing about Pat, well duh what the hell is in this chick's head...of course he's going to dislike that statement. She mutters to herself afterward he doesn't care for her any more. Oh this is just silly.

Santi is in therapy with his punching bag...Horty wants to send in a patient, but he says right now he's the patient!! Ha!!!

Pat is home with his colleague talking about the film launching and Santi shows up. He just outs with it...eh, Pato is my son. Emiliano stands there and is sort of surprised, uh yeah and offers to stick around to back up Pato, but he says it's ok for him to go. Pato wonders where he got this crazy idea. Hmmm, let's see, I went to London and found the crazy Mom who muttered after falling from a third story your ex-wife's name nad baby in the same sentence..oh and their were some dreams and a recording and... :)

Candi is now in therapy, whine whine Santi doesn't want me anymore...blah...Barb says nonsense...Pau shows up and wants to tell Candi...

Santi continues on the rant that I pretty much expected above, Pat thinks coincidence and now way too crazy... Santi is trying to convince. Finally Pato freaks out and says look no proof. But aha there is DNA!!!!

Pau continues that Santi is now counting on her support. Candi says, yeah, good, bbbuhbye!!

Santi wants a piece of hair and Pato righteously gets pissed at the audacity. Santi continues. Pat asks him to leave if he'll keep up.

Now Candi is getting therapy from everyone! Oh pulease.... they tell her not ot worry about Pau.

At Pato's Marg comes out with the baby it's all Santi can do to keep from wrenching the baby away. He leaves without his hair sample.

lalo and Santi chat and Lalo reminds him about all the folks he does have in his life.

Pato calls a lawyer an adoption specialist...she is hot and looks at the papers with a look of concern before we go to commercial.

We return and she explains the paper is legal but was gotten illegally and human trafficking is quite prevalent. She thinks maybe a woman could have given the baby over willingly. Pat is worried about losing his son and she says well there aren't compelling arguments to force him to allow DNA testing..only if Ali confesses the way she got the baby.

I don't know there is some crap here about him caring for her and then she typing a letter on her computer about how he was so great and he shouldn't suffer for his son, etc... whatever...

Pat looks for Ali Santi sleuths out Pato's place wondering how he can be alone with the baby. He sees Candi arrive in taxi. She tells him she's here and they discuss the DNA issue. Santi cries, I guess he thinks she's putting the horns on him. he drives off. C and P continue the discussion. She agrees there is a possiblilty Santi is right. Pato wants to know why. She pushes too for him to think about this.

Lu and Charly are in the kitchen and decide to wash dishes to gether. Finally Charly musters up the courage to ask about her and Fede. She doesn't answer right away, then the phone rings and she asks Charly to answer he says it's Fede. OK Candi is now in front of Santi's house, dying for him. OK, I thought teens only did this kind of crap...

We come back from commercial and Lu is yelling at Fede she doesn't want to talk to him. Charly is digging this big time.

Pau is waiting for Santi on his bed. he turns around and walks out.

Charly tells Lu he's happy she's not with guys that aren't good for her. A good guy for her is one who really cares for her. She tells him he should go and he gives her a kiss good bye that could have been on lips, but was on cheeck.

Santi tells Pau wait for him in the salon, not the bedroom, he tells her about his talk with Pato.

meno and Charly are chatting about Lu dropping Fede, who is like dogshit. They cheer.

next we are NY...which looks a lot like a Mexican hotel...the detectives argue about what it will take to find Ali...Ambrosini is going back to MX but Escott will stay.

Candi sleeps and cries with Chava...Charly comes in and sees this. He consoles her feeling she lost Santi forever.

Jaime and Issy argue. Santi calls them on it. He tells them what happened. They tell of their work to try to earn him some money. Santi tells them he needed no money. He says he's ok with money. They say actually, they owe Meno money now, so maybe he can help them. He walks away.

Licenciada shows up at Pato's to convince him to go for the test, because it would lift a great weight.

Candi's phone rings and it's Ali calling conveniently.

Marg and Pato stew on the DNA issues more. The doorbell rings...it's Ali with the detective. Pat wants to know who the babies parents are. Just like that, she says Mari and Santi.

Santi knows Ali is back and he is worried what is happening over there. They wonder if she'll lie.

Now Pato rips her a new one...how could she have done this horrible thing..she's crazy. No she says she was in love and wanted to be with him. He doesn't want to hear this, this is the lowest she could have done....ugh. Just then Candi shows up with her inquisitive cara.

Tontas Tues June 16, '09 Paulina Sticks Like Glue and Santiago Gets A Clue

Alternative title: Marissa Goes Splat! And That's That.

Jeez, I thought this was supposed to be a reasonably light-hearted comedy. Really wasn't on board for that horrible drop off the balcony, pool of blood underneath Marissa's head, or the gruesome hospital scenes. Not exactly 7 pm viewing material in my opinion. But why quibble? Let's just resume what happened and move on.

Santiago is pacing in the hospital with Paulina hanging on to him like a limpet. The detectives (one of whom played a smarmy, corrupt politician in Guapos) tell him that Marissa is in grave condition and could die at any moment. No problem with police though. They explained everything.

Scene change: Candy is calling Santi's house for any news and being semi-hysterical. Still a little bit "it's-all-about-me" going on with her.

Back to the hospital. Santiago is trying to talk to Marissa (truly gruesome-looking in these scenes). Paulina is draped all over him and wants to know what he feels for the injured woman. "Compassion and guilt" are his replies. Guilt because, even though he tried to save her, he didn't. Paulina, playing her part to perfection, says piously, We must pray that she'll recover consciousness and tell us something. Marissa suddenly takes a turn for the worse and Santiago starts pressing frantically on her chest. I've taken CPR many times and seems to me he's pressing way too high up....but whatever.

Another scene change: We're back at Patricio's . Meño and Gregoria have joined them and they're hearing about Pato's accident. Was he hit by a hurricane?...well, the hurricane was Chava. Chuckles all 'round.

Again, with the hospital and Santiago fretting while Paulina hangs on for dear life. Detectives have no clue as to the baby's whereabouts.

Noisy scene now. Eduardo and Chayo are at the lawyer's office and so busy screaming at each other that nothing gets done.

But back at the hospital, Paulina seems to be making headway. She's brought Santiago a little "cafecito" and delivers it while leaning intimately on his knee. Far from brushing her off, he admits he wouldn't have wanted to be alone through all this, and he appreciates that she's being a "real friend". She gently reminds him that he should call home and let his folks know how things are. And, gulp, he should call Candy too. (Well played, Paulina!) He doesn't call her though, just his mom.

The detective now is holding up a hand recorder to Marissa's mangled mouth but her garbled and painful words are impossible to understand.

At Patricio's house, Candy gets the call from Isabella telling her about the London situation. Chava suggest that since Santiago hasn't found his baby, maybe they could give him Patito. (Sledgehammer Irony here). Patricio doesn't think it's a good idea and even Beto wants to hang on to the little bugger.

Chayo and Lalo's fight continues, meanwhile. He won't GIVE her a divorce but he COULD divorce her. And on what grounds? Abandonment of the home and adultery with Osvaldo. After more shouting, they decide on a pact (which he agrees to with his fingers crossed behind his back). He'll hide at her apartment. If anything fishy happens with Osvaldo, he'll be proved right. If not, he'll have to give her a divorce. Agreed.

Tensions are getting relieved at Patricio's house. First, an explanation of why Margarita flew the coop. She was tending an aunt who was in intensive care. Grandma is back now but can't be expected to handle three children on her own (Amen to that!) but then the situation changes when a summons appears and it turns out to be a notice that Candy has been granted custody of Chava. High-pitched squeals of delight.

In the hospital, Marissa keeps trying to talk. She manages to get out three words....Santiago....Alicia....baby. Of course the detectives are clueless. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN? Gotta string this out, you know.

Lalo's still trying to soften Chayo's heart....or at least get a drink, crimenently! Alas there's only water in the house so he trudges off to the bedroom to hide, awaiting Osvaldo's arrival and expected perfidy. More disappointment with the bedroom TV. No adult channels. Jeez! But the bed is comfortable. Osvaldo arrives with a plate of cheese and ham and a bottle of red wine. Hmmm....looks more like a date than a tutoring session. We shall see.

Santiago isn't making any more sense of the clues than the detectives. He doesn't think that Alicia and Marissa know each other so why would she mention her? The detectives promise to follow up any leads and have some experts listen further to the tapes though.

Flip again to a tender good-bye twixt Candy and Patricio. She can believe him now. He really didn't want to take Chava away from her and she tells him "te quiero mucho". (you're very dear to me). He wishes she could care for him the way he cares for her but....anyway, he would never want to hurt her. She promises that she'll keep Chava close to him, and that he can have him even more than twice a week if he wishes. They end by smiling at each other and saying "Equipo" (we're a team). We break for a slew of ads on a positive note.

And come back to dreadful drama. Marissa is dying...in spite of Santiago's frantic instructions to "breathe, breathe!". She manages a few parting words though. "You tried to save me....you were always a good man....A tear rolls down her cheek. He begs her to tell him where the baby is. She shakes her head and seems to be saying "What you did, what you did..." (closed captions failed at this point) and then she flat lines. Santi frantically calls for a doctor in English.

And boom, we're back in comedy territory with Lalo falling asleep as Osvaldo drones on and on about Freud and frigidity (He could do my job, muses Eduardo. He puts people to sleep!). Of course what he doesn't see is Osvaldo reaching for Chayo's hand....and Chayo pushing him away.

Remember Hombre's Friday title Act Your Age? Well, Candy and Chava are having a little love talk and clearly Chava makes more sense than his mom. Why aren't you and Santi getting married if you love each other? he asks. Er, because we had a fight and got mad at each other so he doesn't want to be with me anymore.

If you get mad at me, will you stop loving me, queries Chava. No, of course not! Then why is it different with adults? Well, we're more complicated. RIDICULOUS. But they have to string this out a few more days, so hang on. Act like you buy that silly explanation for now.

The hospital scene become surreal. The doctor's efforts to revive Marissa have failed. Nothing more to be done. Santiago starts pounding on Marissa's chest. Forgive me, but all I could think of was "abuse of a corpse". Found this scene really off-putting. But I suppose we are supposed to sense how frantic and hopeless and out of control Santiago is now feeling. But still, ugh....

Another ad and when we come back, we see the real Paulina. She's talking to someone on the phone, complaining about having to hang around the hospital all the time and not a minute to go shopping! What's a shallow fashion maven to do!? Santiago joins her, gives her the news that Marissa has died and all hope of finding his son is lost. He remembers the baby's ultra-sound, listening to the heartbeat, putting up the safety gate on the stairs, building the playhouse, and then the gruesome video where Marissa told him he'd never see his son alive.

Alright. Another change of pace. We knew Osvaldo would eventually make a mistake and he's pushing it now, insisting on a little kiss, unable to understand that Chayo's not interested. An enraged Lalo bursts out of the bedroom and lays claim to not only Chayo but the cheese and the wine, if possible. Osvaldo, all petulant now, snarls "I leave you to him. You deserve him."

Lalo's ready to settle in with the cheese dip and the drinks, but Chayo kicks him out as well. She doesn't want to see him till the day of the divorce. And she's keeping the cheese!

Back to Santiago. More despair. More clinging by Paulina. More promises by detectives to follow up on information and listen to the tape more fully. Next scene is on the plane where Santiago has one of those prophetic dreams and realizes the strange coincidence of Marissa leaving and then Alicia returning with a baby. The penny has dropped! Some more comic folderol with Camil abusing the air hostess call button and still more Paulina drapery but that's it for now.

Back at Meño's house, Gregoria has received a letter from Alicia saying she's finally found a guy who really loves her and values her. But no return address. Guess this is supposed to keep us on tenterhooks.

Now we're at the restaurant. Jaime is playing. Frijolito is singing. Nice tone but painfully flat. Oh well. The Institutas have arrived all together for dinner and Chayo is protesting that she never knew Osvaldo had the hots for her. The rest can't believe how dense she is. There's some man-bashing along the lines of "all they ever think about is south of the Equator" when Candy gets all sentimental and says, I found someone whom I could really talk to, walk hand in hand with....Santiago. Sigh. So Chayo, if you love Eduardo, try and work out your marriage. Don't divorce. Barb points out the obvious...that Candy and Santiago could also still make a go of it. Duh. And lastly, Lulu reminds everybody that actually "sex is good". Of course, she's only going on hearsay. Whatevah. We have totally covered the relationship question. Moving on.

Santiago is still in the plane with devious Paulina but he's dreaming of Candy holding the baby and then him holding Patito. Paulina finally decides to divulge that she knows where Alicia is....with Mario...in New York. Of course she doesn't admit scheming with Alicia to off-load Mario but she does agree to call and get their address when they land. More points for Paulina? Are you really worried Santi and Candy won't get back together? Of course not. But let's push this a little longer. Santi abuses the call button some more and then we switch to the final, really stupid, annoying scene.

There was some unpleasant teasing of Lulu about replacing her with a truly superior cook (Isabella) but when Meño heads for the kitchen, he finds Tina and Donato actually doing the work while Chabeli directs and criticizes and generally acts obnoxious. (quite unlike her usual character). Alright, fire me if you will, she concedes, but please don't tell Jaime the truth.

Yes, I'm Miss Crankypants tonight. But what a stupid scene and what a stupid scenario this whole competition between Jaime and Isabella was ! Does not advance the plot at all and makes two, up till now reasonably intelligent characters, look ridiculous. Ick and double ick.

Enough complaining. How about some vocabulary?

Vocabulario:

el chisme corre come polvora (lit. the gossip is spreading like gunpowder) the news is spreading like wildfire
una pista = a clue, what the detectives are looking for
equipo = team
escarmio = ridicule, derision
abogaducho de cuarto = third rate punk of a lawyer
no te di pie de esto = Chayo protesting that she "never encouraged that" from Osvaldo
me has tomado el pelo = you were having me on, you were fooling me. Meño to Isabella when he found out she wasn't really cooking
tapón de alberca = stopper in a sink (don't remember where this came up in the episode...but it did)

Dicho of the Day:

Más vale solo que mal acompañado = Better to be alone than in unpleasant company.

(Could apply to Santiago and stick-like-glue Paulina. Might refer to Chayo and Eduardo, depending on how you feel. Might even apply to Santiago and Candy, because some of us think he'd be better off without her!)

Las tontas no van #133, June 15, Is it still a cliffhanger if she's hanging from a balcony?

Santi is so drunk that he can barely talk and he can’t stand up on his own, but he still has enough working brain cells to know that Paulina is not his friend regardless of her assurances to the contrary. He’s a glum drunk, thinking about Candy’s sad face when they broke up. Pau feeds him like a mama bird, and he sits like a baby bird, mouth wide open, waiting for the food to arrive. It just struck me as funny. She keeps throwing accusations, and he keeps shooting down every one of them. Even when he is not firing on all cylinders, she still can’t score any points. She puts him into bed, and he thanks her with a brotherly hug. He falls asleep mid-hug, and he falls to the floor after she leaves the room.

At the restaurant, Isabel and Jaime are both surprised that they only make minimum wage. Isabel pulls Meño aside and begs him to pay her just a little bit more than Jaime – even just one dollar.

Pat tells his nurse about the fabulous relationship he had with Candy, and he tries to get the guy to agree that they could still get back together after all these years. And pigs might fly. The nurse tells Pat to pass the bean dip. (In my friend’s family, if someone doesn’t want to answer an uncomfortable question like, “When are you ever going to get married?” the one queried answers, “Pass the bean dip.”)

Candy remembers their split and says to herself, “I love you so much, Santiago.”

In the morning, a meaningless scene at Pat’s house.

Santiago wakes up, somehow back in bed in his pajamas. He’s remembering happier times in Puerto Vallarta. The ever-attentive Donato brings his patrón a remedy for the anticipated hangover. Santi informs Don that he and Candy have broken up, while Candy, amid tears, tells Chava the same thing. We see quick clips of the rest of the cast getting the news. Candy is wearing jeans. I think it’s the first time she’s worn pants in the entire show.

At the office, Candy and Santi encounter each other in the hall. They burn up 30 seconds of show, with everyone saying hello to each other. Goodnight, John-Boy. In his batcave, Santi tells Hortensia he needs his punching bag back because he has so much stress built up. Hortensia volunteers to relieve the stress for him, and he dubs that a definite overshare. He asks Horti to bring him Patito.

Art, the son-of-a-metiche, comes to celebrate with Pat because Candy split up with Santi. He says it’s his grand opportunity. Pat tries to tell him that he’s nuts, but Art isn’t listening.

Candy cries on Meño’s shoulder, and she takes off her engagement ring. Lulu comes in and offers to take care of the baby. Hortensia bribes Lulu to let her hold Patito, and promptly takes him to the cave for Santiago’s therapy. As always, Patito brings out Santiago’s biggest smiles.

Max comes to see Pat with the bad news. The movie investors rejected the project. Apparently they did not get the memo about Bring Your Crying Baby To Work Day. Max doesn’t know any other potential investors. Pat says he’ll provide the rest of the investment.

Candy goes to Santi’s office to get Patito.
C: How are you doing?
S: Bad. Sad. Lonely. I feel like I’ve lost the light on my path. And you?
C: Bad. Just like you.
S: Just as bad? (With hope in his voice.)
C: Yes.

They step closer and almost end their foolish separation, when his phone rings. When will he learn to ignore that dang phone??? It sure would help his love life! It’s Ambrosini. Santi announces to Candy, “They’ve found my son!” as the camera fixes on Patito. They found Marissa in a hotel in London. She doesn’t have the baby, but when they get Mar, they’ll be just one step away from the baby. Santi is worried that it’s another false alarm, but Ambro assures him, it’s the real thing, and they have her closely watched. Now, there is a happy man. Candy gives him a big excited hug and they get nose-to-nose, but then they remember that they don’t do that anymore (the finale is still six episodes away) and so they sadly pull apart. They both feel rejected. Candy leaves, with both of them cold and distant.

Max shows Pat the trailer to the movie. Pat is so excited, he ignores his ringing phone. See? It is possible to ignore a ringing phone in a novela. But not when it will keep the leads apart.

Hortensia can’t get Santi a flight. It’s vacation season, and the soonest flight she can find is in a week. Pau comes in and says she knows somebody; she’ll get him tickets. He tells her that for once she’s being helpful. What’s up with Santiago’s shirt pocket? It looks like it is outlined with cellophane tape! Pau gets on the phone and gets a booking for this afternoon. Santi rushes home to pack his bag. His mama sends him off with her best wishes for his success. He warns her, no wild parties while he’s gone, and no raves.

At school, the kids argue about whose parent is fighting with whom. The kids have an idea to make their parents happy.

In a large upscale hotel in London, we see Marissa cross the lobby with shopping bags in each hand, while an agent on the elevated walkway keeps her under surveillance, updating his boss by telephone. The London hotel clerk, with a Mexican accent, skin which sees the sun, and all her teeth, gives Marissa her messages.

Santi finds his airplane seat and finds Paulina sitting beside him. Pau gives her usual loving-wife look. Santi looks more disgusted with her than usual. She thanks him for letting her come. He reminds her that he didn’t permit it; she simply appeared. She keeps annoying him with questions. Does he still love Candy? He says, “I’ll never stop loving her.”

Candy goes to see Isabel and Jaime, and she asks them to keep her informed about Santi’s trip. Isabel tells how much she regrets seeing them split. Isa lets it slip that Pau is sharing the flight. Candy gets back to Pat’s, and the three kids want to entertain them, dressed as clowns. Chava wants his mama to stop being sad and angry, but she says she’s not. Ay uh-huh! Later, taking care of the baby, she’s so upset about her day that she’s shaking poor Patito like she’s making whipped cream! No wonder he doesn’t settle. She prays for Santi and keeps shaking the baby. Speaking of babies, yesterday I got to hold two-month-old Jeremy and he fell asleep in my arms. Is there anything more marvelous than that?

At the hotel, Mar eats in the dining room
while the agent watches, accompanied by Santi and Pau. The man at the next table comes over and joins her. Later in her rooms, there is a knock on the door. She opens it, assuming it’s her dinner companion, eager to see her again. Instead it’s Santi and the agents. She tears through her suite, with Santi close on her heels. She makes it to the bedroom and shuts the door on him. Santi tells her, “There’s no sense in continuing this game. We already know everything. How about if you stop what you’re doing, okay?” Ambrosini has his hand under his jacket, where his holster would be. Marissa says, “It’s not a game. You never understood that. GO AWAY!” She frantically looks around for an escape. Santi tells her to give up. The hotel is surrounded by agents that have been watching her for weeks. If she just tells him where his son is, he assures her nothing will happen to her. Marissa screams that his son died. She’s looking much crazier than Lili at her worst, and she’s approaching Boufy LaFont levels, just before he went all to pieces.

Talk of his son dying puts Santi over the edge. He starts yelling through the door. “That’s not true! Tell me where he is!” As she rushes out to the balcony, she screams, “It’s not your son. You abandoned me so it’s not your son. You’ll never find him!” Santi starts trying to break the door down, while Ambrosini tries to get to her from the balcony of the next room. She runs back inside. Santi somehow gets through the door and chases Mar. She runs back to the balcony and falls over the railing like a sack of potatoes. Santi manages to grab her hand before she falls the three or four stories to the street below. He hangs on tight. She screams a lot, and her grip is slipping.

Miscellaneous Notes
Friday will be a double header. Can someone recap the first hour, and Hombre de Misterio will recap the second hour? I still think they have to show another double header on another night this week. Sylvia doesn’t mind a 2-hour recap if it falls on Thursday. But Judy and Kris, if it falls on your night, what would you like?

Unless I help with a yet-to-be-announced double header, this is my last recap. Thank you, friends. It has been a blast. I have really appreciated your support and I love our community. I won't be a regular recapper again any time soon; I can't afford the time. But I will substitute now and then.

I’m doing the happy dance. Thanks to the switch to digital, I had to rescan my TV and discovered that my cable carries another channel. Telefutura! If my house burns down, I hope it’s not between 10 and 11, Mon thru Fri. Don’t nobody get between Paula and her Fea!

Tontas no Van Friday 6/12 Act your Age!

Our beloved novela has so many facets. We have a love triangle, lots of PSA’s, and of course, a bunch of adorable kids. Tonight, it seems we have more than a bunch of adorable kids. In fact, just about every character is acting like a child, or a baby. It’s like the playground in third grade (I’m still mad at Stevie Strauss for throwing that dodgeball at me when I wasn’t looking!). Okay, let’s check out tonight’s maturity meter.

Paulina is still trying to break up Santi and Candy. She tells him that Candy is two-timing him. He doesn’t believe her. She says Candy is an untrustworthy woman. Santi laughs it off, look who’s talking, you who cheated on me with my friend Mario. Pau doesn’t give up, she snuggles into him in his consultorio chair, so he slides out of her grasp and out of the chair. She then opines that the detective is robbing Santi, and not finding the baby, how long is that going to continue? Santi tells her to butt out.

Meanwhile, Lulu has been talking to Candy at the receptionist desk, asking if she minds that Santi’s ex is in his office. Candy has faith in Santi. When Pau comes out, she informs Candy that Candy’s destroying Santi’s life (by supposedly still seeing Pat), and not to deny it.

So did Pau’s plan work? Not at all. Candy enters Santi’s office, all smiles, and they have a cute repeat of the other day’s mini-spat, in which Candy accused Santi of jealousy, and Santi, pointing to his handsomeness, said who, me? This time, Santi accuses Candy of jealousy, Candy points to her sexiness, says who, me? They both agree to trust each other, they seal it with a kiss, and make a date for lunch. So, I guess we’ll have no more problems tonight, right? Well……….

We have a silly scene with Isabel and Jaime, puffing out their figurative chests, she’s a great cook, he’s better at piano, both think they earn more than the other at their new “jobs” at Meño’s restaurant. Grow up, people!

Meanwhile, yesterday, Pat fell off some steps, and we’ve all been waiting to see if he has amnesia, is blind, paralyzed, or whatever, but it’s nothing nearly that dramatic. He’s back in the house, in pain, and rather than calling an ambulance, big boy Pat has Chava call his Mommy (Chava’s Mommy, not Pat’s, although I think Pat wants Candy to be his Mommy at this point). Candy rushes out, tells Horti and Lulu she has to go to Pat right away (no details given), as Horti, ever protective of her Santi, smiles knowingly at Lulu. After Candy leaves, Santi comes out, ready for the lunch date, Horti informs him that Miss Candy has gone to Mr. Piojoso’s house. Fortunately, Santi has just agreed to have total confidence in Candy, so no hay problema, right? Well…………….

Candy has arrived at Pat’s in record time, she opens the door for the paramedics. Pat says he’s fine, but his shoulder, foot and hand hurt a lot. He begs Candy to come with him in the ambulance, don’t leave him alone. (Poor baby). At this point, Candy is holding Patito, and tells all the boys that someone has to watch the three smaller ones, and besides, she doesn’t want problems with Santiago.

Back in the Institute, Santi is having a major meltdown, pacing back and forth in front of Horti and Lulu’s desk. What could have been so dire that Candy had to leave like a rocket? Lulu is defending Candy, saying there must be a good reason, while Horti is on Santi’s side, the novio comes first! Santi finally stops pacing, asks Hort to call his house, he’ll have lunch with them, he’s not gonna eat alone, like some dog!

We immediately cut to Santi’s house, as Isabel tells Paulina that Santi’s not coming home for lunch, so there’s no point in waiting. Oh, but I didn’t come to see Santi, I came for Rocío, says Pau. However, Pau then tells Rocío, sorry, she has important things to do, can’t have lunch with them today. Phone rings, Santi IS coming for lunch, and guess what? Paulina WILL cancel her important appointment, and have lunch with Rocío.

Well, here’s the cute Doctora we’ve been waiting for. She has long, lush hair (a la Candy’s “new look”, must be the same stylist), and she tells Pat he has a broken pinky (dedo meñique), a bruised shoulder and he’s sprained (esguince) his ankle. Am I gonna die, Doc? No, she’ll just do a few more tests (will they hurt?, asks our big boy) to see if he tore any ligaments, and he’s going to have to rest at home for a week or two. Pat can’t do that. He’s gotta take care of three kids (and himself). Doctora jokingly volunteers to come to his house to be his personal nurse.

Santi enters his dining room, the two girls, Jaime and Isabel are sitting at the table, he tells them how upset he is that Candy ditched him (me dejo plantado) for that (he then makes a motion of pulling something out of his hair). Jaime asks, pulgoso (flea-man)?. No, piojoso (lice-man, or louse), chime in the other three. It’s funny until Paulina enters, says I told you Candy was untrustworthy, and this gets Santi a little PO’ed. He takes Pau aside, what’s she doing there, doesn’t she have her own house now? She tells him she doesn’t know how to cook, and the food is so good here. He lays into her for criticizing Candy, but she says it’s for his own good, Candy can’t be trusted, and he’s jealous. He again counters with the Mario betrayal, but after she goes back into the dining room, he looks in the mirror and wonders if she’s at least partially right. Why is he becoming half-bitter (medio amargado)?

At Pat’s the medical guys have set him up on his bed, and he doesn’t know how he’s going to do the ironing and make all the breakfasts for two weeks. Candy assures him she’ll take care of everything. Chava comes in, Santi’s calling. Okay, give me the phone. No, he’s at the door, says Chava (that Santi doesn’t waste time). Candy goes to greet him, and he immediately asks what was so urgent that she ditched him. Well, Pat had an accident, they put his hand in a cast (enyesar la mano) and bandaged his ankle. Fine, he’s all set, let’s go. Nope, gotta stay, says Candy. Santi almost blows up, counts to diez, first she had to stay for Chava, now for Pat, what’s up? Candy tells him since Pat can’t care for the kids, she’ll have to stay here a few days (again, why not hire someone?). Santi is really upset, he rants about how all Pat’s photos are here, Candy at the wedding with Pat, Pat’s going to try to reconquer Candy, the best thing may be that they have a little…. “tiempo”, a time-out or break in their relationship. Sorry, Candy doesn’t believe in time-outs. Oh, then you want to break up (terminar)? Candy looks impactada.

Lucía is on her computer when Isa enters, says she has to go to work, but can Luc look out for Rocío, make sure Pau doesn’t poison her mind? Sure, says Lucía, gets a little smile, and calls Charly (all right!)

Candy says she never said she wanted to break up, but stubborn Santi says if she didn’t want a time-out that means she wanted to break up. She tells him to stop acting childish, but he walks out the door, and she says to herself I can’t stand it that he’s childish (me choca que sea infantil). We then have a funny split screen where they both have their arms crossed, both absolutely sure the other will apologize. They’re each saying the same thing, one after the other. I’ll give him/her a few minutes, he/she will come running back to admit I was right. Well, it’s been a few minutes, he/she isn’t here yet. Well, if that’s the way you want it, terminamos (bye bye love).

The two male nurses have helped Pat onto the bed, they’ll be back tonight to check up on him. He tells Patito isn’t that something, that Candy hired two male nurses, he might have preferred some female nurses. He wonders for a minute if Candy would be jealous of female nurses, maybe she is warming up to him. No, he reassures Patito, Candy loves that louse Santiago.

The boys come in, looking guilty. Daddy, can you forgive us? Chava thinks that because of what they did, Pat looks like a mummy (momia). He tells them he’s fine, he thinks he looks sexy, they shouldn’t feel bad at all. But, he does have a favor to ask, he adds with a tone of mischief. Can they tell Candy to send some better nurses? They jump on top of him in fun.

There’s another silly scene where Jaime takes a cab to his job, and as soon as he leaves, Isa has Donato fire up the SUV, they’ve got to get there first! They zip out of the driveway.

Santi’s zipping along himself, driving his sports car in the countryside, deep in thought.

Candy calls her Mom in tears, tells her how mad Santi is, Gregoria thinks it’ll pass, but Candy disagrees, because they broke up.

Meanwhile, Patito (in his crib in Pat’s room) starts crying. Pat realizes it’s feeding time, calls for Candy, who can’t hear him, then struggles to get up with all his casts and slings. Candy comes in and picks up Patito, but Pat sees that she was crying. She tells him that she and Santi broke up.

Sure enough, back in the big house, Paulina is poisoning Rocío’s mind over a game of Chinese Checkers (can’t believe they still play that – sure brings back memories). Fortunately, no sooner can Pau get in one remark about that “crazy Candy”, when Lucía shows up with Charly. As Rocío goes to greet Charly, Luc quietly tells Pau her brainwashing (lavada de coco) time is up. Lucía and Charly says they can all four play, maybe get some french fries and coke.

On the empty highway, Santi’s phone rings, and it’s Eduardo, where are you, Man? Out driving, and I’m not coming in, either. Ed can’t believe he’d leave his patients hanging to have fun with his girlfriend. What girlfriend, we broke up. Ed’s concerned, where is Santi? 12 miles from Tequila (must be the Mexican version of down on Bourbon Street). Ed’s coming right away to support his bud.

We now have the one time in this episode where someone does act grownup. As Candy gently rocks the baby, Patricio tells her he feels terrible about what happened with Santi, he’ll call and try to talk to him. Candy thanks him, but no, Santi’s just being stubborn, childish and inflexible, always wants things his own way. Pat says she has her life, he can hire someone, but she says she’s fine, she’ll get the girls at the Institute to cover for her. Pat then says the magic words, I admire you. You always put your child first (oh yeah, he knows how to push those buttons!). Although I do have a broken heart (corazon hecho pedacitos – torn into little pieces), says Candy sadly.

Santi and Ed are no longer 12 miles from Tequila, they’re drowning in it, sitting in a little bar, venting. Santi still can’t understand why Candy has to jump everytime Pat hurts his little finger, but Ed says I told you women were dangerous. Don’t be ridiculous, answers Santi, let’s go back in time, to when we were little. Remember your first girlfriend? The one you first kissed, put your arms around, noticed that parts of her body were softer than others? (lol) Sure, María Sofía. Ed gets a glazed-over, happy look. Okay, says Santi, hold that thought, fast forward to today, you have problems with Chayo, you treat her badly. Now, what if María Sofía appeared today? Ed wouldn’t let her get away again (He'd tirarle el perro - come on to her). Right, says Santi, it’s the same with Pat. He has pictures of their wedding still up, it’s been ten years, but he has this chance to recapture her again, see what I mean? (Jaime Camil then completely forgets his lines, remarks that he must be drunk, so the guys have a shot). Salud!

We have a short scene in which Candy is holding Patito, helping Chava and Beto with their homework, telling them she’s very happy (but she’s not really).

Back in the bar, our two abandonados are totally sloshed, hugging each other and singing in slurred voices. I love you, Man! We have to forget those dames. Right, says Ed, I have to forget Candy, and you have to forget Chayo (he IS drunk). Santi’s phone rings, he gives it to Ed, if it’s Candy, YOU answer. But it can’t be Candy, says Ed, because it’s coming from your house. So Santi answers, totally drunk. Heelllloooo? It’s Rocío, with Paulina prompting her, ask him where he is. Where are you, Daddy? He says he’s at a medical conference. Pau says tell him to hurry. Daddy, can you come home fast? Sure, no problem. Paulina says “yes!”. The guys hug again in their drunken stupor. (I’m thinking they’d better not try to drive home in their condition!)

Back in the restaurant, it’s the Isabel/Jaime competition, Isa with her toque serving a special dish, Jaime dishing out a tune on the ivories. She kids him about playing the piano, he says he was just hungry, and saw a piano, just decided to play it for fun. But what about her hat, she looks life a chef. No, for his information, this is the latest fashion. They then start yelling at each other that they discovered the other one is actually working there. Meño stops them, get back to work you two, he can’t believe their attitude for minimum wage earners. Minimum wage? they gasp in unison.

The Chinese Checkers game is going great, Charly, Lucía and Rocío playing, Paulina having fallen asleep on the couch. Lucía sees this, shushes the others, then at the top of her lungs yells “I won!”, thus waking up Paulina, which they all find amusing. Pau takes Rocío off to bed, Charly thanks Lucía for inviting him, and at least things are looking better for these two.

At Pat’s house, the male nurse (enfermero) has given him his meds, and Pat has dinner in front of him. But of course he can’t cut the food (who picked this meal?), so Candy cuts the chicken, but she doesn’t seem to be enjoying herself. Pat, though, is milking this as much as he can, asks if Candy can cut the avocados, too. Candy’s not so enthusiastic about this, she’ll get the nurse to help him.

Good news, Santiago made it home (I was picturing him in an accident, Candy having to choose, but he’s fine, just still very drunk). Paulina sees him come in the door, and now I’m thinking she could very easily take him upstairs, get him undressed, and… Well, let’s see. Pau asks why he drank so much. Because she brushed me off, dumped me (la mandé por un tubo). Paulina comforts him. So maybe they aren’t going upstairs, but Santi’s really in a bad way, and Paulina’s right there for him.

So, it’s Friday, but there’s no impactado moment, no car crash, nobody catches anyone kissing, we just have a sad Santi, no baby to bond with, too worn out to work, his wealth is waning, his girl is gone, down in the dumps.

And to me, the only one who can save him is Candy. Yes, I think it’s time our heroine showed she really can work miracles.
