MEPS 04/10/09 - Salvation and Deliverance: The Old Lil’ Is Back!

Capítulo 39
We join in progress the continuing argument between Nanda and her daddy as hypertensive heart patient Gonzo, with only momentary twinges of guilt, tempts all of the Three Fates by screaming in triplicate at the top of his lungs that he absolutely did the right thing by separating Fernanda from Eduardo all those many years ago. From behind the door in the hall, reigning and bitchin’ babe, Barbie, has heard all she needed. The Barbot smugly smiles from ear to ear at having regained control at Hacienda Elizalde by sowing the seeds of discord once again. She slips silently away as female viewers throughout the whole of Viewerville scrape their finger nails across their t.v. screens in futile attempts to scratch the celluloid witch’s eyes out.

Nanda tells her daddy that she kept quiet all these years because she knew it’s a waste trying to change Gonzo’s mind about what happened. He reached his own conclusions and she has to respect them. Gonzo screams in disbelief that his daughter has turned against him and is now justifying all of Ed’s abuses. Nanda tells him she refuses to continue the argument and will do whatever her heart and conscience dictate, and then leaves--and not a moment too soon, ‘cause it seems that Gonzo’s gaskets are about to spring a serious leak, that is, provided his cerebral circuitry doesn’t short out first.

Meanwhile, Estev and Ed are discussing the dicey situation with Lili’s bolt from Las Animas after her two older brothers showed up out of the blue. Ed’s worried that if she runs into the wrong person she might give away his real identity and everything he’s done up to now would have been all for nothing. Estev, in his best philosophical Gringlish, assures his BFF that he’s got to crack a few eggs to make an omelet (huh?), or rather (in an English translation of the more sensible Spanish “dicho”/saying that conveniently flashes on the screen) “…anything that’s worth the effort doesn’t come without a bit of conflict.”

At the same time Nanda’s big brother, Any Balls, is rather presumptuously purchasing tickets for Fer and Damian’s honeymoon for the following Saturday. He figures that that should be time enough to get her together with Franco Santoro and put ink to his Big Bidnez deal with Powhere Meelk.

Back at the hacienda, Santiago has a brainstorm and he decides to go into town looking for the Edster with his faithful shadow, Rory. He stops in at the Mud Wrassler’s Cantina and asks one of the waitresses if a guy named Eduardo Juarez has been hanging around there. Sherlock San admits he hasn’t seen the guy for fifteen years and can’t describe him. (All together now: “NO SH!T, SHERLOCK!) So, Santiago stumble-bums his way into the hotel connected with the bar to check whether Ed is registered there.

Barbie steps outside the main house to call Dr. DementOh! Matamentes Obregon at Loonyland with the news that Fernanda will be visiting Lili; so he’d better make darned sure that nothing out of the ordinary goes wrong. She says she wants Lili drugged but awake again like the last time. DementOh! is practically crawling out of his skin by now, wondering how he’s going to weasel his way out of this one. He tells her not to worry; that he has everything under control.

Damnian drives up just as Barbie finishes her call. After receiving a few choice insults about newlyweds and shriveled…er...brains, he reports to the Barbot that in a couple of days the plant’s entire production will be lost. No worries about derailing business meetings then because Franco Santoro will want nothing more to do with Grupo Lactos. To top it off, with the results of an unexpected visit from the international inspectors, neither will anybody else from Powhere Meelk. (Ok. Ok. So, if he knows they’re coming, it isn’t exactly unexpected, is it?) Bitch-Barbie is elated.

Just then, Nanda comes outside to greet Damian and invites him along to visit Lili with her. Babs sweetly tells her not to get her hopes up because the doctor says Lili’s still the same as before. Fer surprises Babs by telling her that she knows this isn’t the only time that Eduardo has gone to the asylum looking for Lili, and that with all that’s been happening she simply forgot to mention it. Babs wonders if she thinks Ed actually got a chance to speak with Lili. Fer says that’s precisely why she’s going back to see her.

AB and Cadmilo drive up just then. AB says they’ve got to have a quick family business meeting over something important. Cad tells Fer and Dam about the tickets AB so thoughtfully bought the two of them and says AB’s generously giving the two of them an extra month off for it. Fer is ticked and tells AB that it was none of his business. He tells her to do what she wants to with them, but they all need to go inside to discuss the business. Barbie wonders to herself what kind of nifty little surprise Anibal has cooked up for them all this time.

Finally, Martina and Lili have found their way to Hacienda Elizonde. Martina tries to make Lili understand that she can’t go the rest of the way with her because it would be too awkward. Lili panics at the last second and says she can’t go back there after all because nobody there wants her, except for Fernanda. She breaks down in tears again. Jacinto finds the two of them standing there.

At Jacinto’s house, Gardenia is telling Margarita how upset she is about what’s happened with Soledad’s house. She decides that she’s going back to Las Animas right away to ask for Don Santoro’s help to get the house back and she races out. Margo can’t stop her and worries Denia will find out that Eddie’s hiding Lili over there.

Back in the back forty at the hacienda, Martina tells Jacinto that, no, Fr/Ed doesn’t know they’ve left Las Animas. He tells them he’s taking them back there but since Lil now thinks her brothers are going to be regulars at Las Animas, she freaks and refuses to go back to Ed’s place. Jacinto is muy negatively impactado and scowls at them.

Inside the main house, meanwhile, Fer and AB argue about setting up a meeting to discuss the community center with Fr/Eduardo. She refuses to meet with him about the project because they refused to take her point of view into consideration earlier. She says it’ll be priority one, but not till after she and Dam get back from their honeymoon. Her timeline nearly gives Anibal a heart attack since it throws a monkey wrench into his carefully crafted plans. AB attacks her weak point. “Ok, Fernanda! Whatever you say! Just remember you have the future of Grupo Lactos in your hands and now you are turning your back on us!”

Back at Jacinto’s, Ed drives up looking for his friend, but Margo tells him that he’s over taking care of things at the Elizalde’s. She gives the details about Denia heading back to Las Animas and says she’s worried Denia will find out about Lili. He explains how Lili saw her brothers over there and ran away with Martina and now he’s got to find them both.

Meanwhile, Denia is on her way back to Las Animas and entertaining herself with thoughts about the various ways Don Santoro will kick Lucio’s sorry backside out of Soledad’s house.

Margo wonders if Martina and Lili are headed back to the hacienda, but Ed doesn’t think Lili would go there considering how afraid she is of them. He says he believes the reason she’s afraid of her family has something to do with the letter his mother wrote. Ed confirms to her that everything Sole wrote about is true and that Lili really is in danger. Margo hints that she might know who is behind it all and they go back inside the house to discuss it.

Inside the main house again at the hacienda, Anibal explains to Fernada that he needs her to meet with Santoro before she leaves for her honeymoon. When she balks, he emphasizes that he needs Santoro’s answer right away. She says not until she returns from visiting Lili. So AB tries laying a guilt trip on her for not immediately jumping on the family-business-at-all-cost bandwagon. Gonzo wakes up from his stupor and decides he has had enough of the family in-fighting. He blames it all on the Powhere Meelk deal with Santoro and orders Anibal to tell Santoro that they will decline the proposed association with Powhere Meelk because no contract is worth tearing the family apart like this. Babs is secretly delighted ‘cause it’s now two down and one to go.

Any Balls finds a little testicular fortitude here and tells his father “No!” He insists they cannot go back on Powhere Meelk for all the prior reasons they discussed back at the office. Gonzo smiles in a senile haze and says it still time enough for Grupo Lactos to have had a change of heart. AB looks like he’s ready to pull his hair out, but his dad’s scalp is going to come first.

Back at Jacinto’s, Margarita reminds Ed that “La Hiena” has had a hand in every rotten thing that’s happened to them over the years. Ed tells Margarita that he thinks the enemy they are fighting is probably somebody much more powerful than just Babara Greco. Margarita deflates and says then there’s no hope for any of them. Eddie starts to disagree when there’s a knock at the door. It’s Jacinto. (Guess he forgot his key?) He’s got Margarita and Lili in tow.

Eddie breathes one hell of a sigh of relief and tries to convince Lili that he would never hand her over to her two brothers. He tells her that he realizes she doesn’t mean a thing to them and that she wants nothing to do with them, either. He says he promised “her nana” that he’d take care of her and he intends to. “All I want to do is to help you regain something of the life you lost while being locked up in the asylum all these years.” Lili says she believes him and Martina now realizes that he really is Eduardo.

LIli begs Eduardo to help Ciro get out of the asylum too. He tells her he can’t and finally tells her about Ciro’s accident. She starts in with the cryptic chess references again and then through fits and starts explains that Dr. DementOh! was planning to “fry” her brain [freir el cerebro] with electroshock. She remembers then that Ciro must have created a distraction that allowed her to escape. Ed explains to her that Ciro produced an explosion and was seriously hurt because of it.

Ciro, meanwhile, is still mumbling Lili’s name off and on in his room while Adolfina tends to him. All of a sudden his wife and son burst into the room and are impactado when they see him hooked up to monitors. The first thing his wife asks Adolfina is if he’s said anything to her. Adofina shakes her head no. Greedy wife and gumpy son try talking to him, but when there’s no response, Momma tells Gumpy they’ve got to get to a lawyer quick for some document they need to get Ciro to sign “in case anything happens to him.” They race back out the door.

Back at Jacinto’s, Lili becomes very agitated over what’s happened to Ciro and she begs Eduardo to take her back to see him. Ciro helped save her, she says, and so she has to help him now. Ed promises to do whatever she wants, but he tries to explain that if she goes back to the clinic to see Ciro she will not be able to get out of there again. Lili says that doesn’t matter and begs him to take her back anyway.

On the way to the asylum, Fer and Damnian have stopped for gas. She remembers back a few days ago when Fr/Ed ran into her at the gas station and the way her heart (and the rest of ours) went pitty-pat when he smiled. “Ah, who would have thought that the mystery man, Franco Santoro, would become my best friend’s hero?” Just then Dam comes back with a bag of candy for Liliana. He gets in and gripes about having to put off their honeymoon again because of the business with Powhere Meelk. Fer reminds him that now it’s because the deal depends on her. Dam smirks. “Your brother boasts [ufanarse] about his being the manager because he knows dairy products and it turns out you’re the indispensible one in resolving company financial matters.”

Damnian now tries to persuade Fer to leave on their honeymoon the next day instead, but she says she doesn’t want to leave that soon. She needs to speak with Eduardo first. He blows up at her and says the guy already wrecked their wedding and now she’s going to let him do the same with their honeymoon plans. “Don’t you think you’re making too much of a Mr. Nobody?” Nanda says Dam just doesn’t understand. He says, “You’re right. I don’t! I don’t understand why you’re giving so much consideration to a guy like him. Or is it that Eduardo Juarez is more than just your nana’s son?” Fer gets just as angry with Damn and says, yes he is more than just that. “He’s been concealing himself and screwing around with the family, which now includes you, BTW, and so isn’t that reason enough to want to stand up to him?” “—NO!” says Dam.

Damnian is now totally pissed (and if he wasn’t such a two-timing pig I’d have said he had a right to be more than a little bit angry at this point, but he is and he doesn’t). Dam says okay, fine. When she gets this thing taken care of with this guy then they’ll go on their honeymoon. Fer stares back at him like where’d the Damian the Door-mat version of her new hubby suddenly just go?

On the other side of Villa Madero, Prissy is driving merrily along the road on her way home and hinting broadly on her cell phone to her brother, Rolando, that he’s probably about to be an uncle and Daddy will finally have his heir. All of a sudden, like a bad penny, Vlad appears in the middle of the road and makes her stop. Pris is very disturbed with this nutty interruption and in no mood. She asks him what he wants and he says isn’t it evident? He wants to talk. She reluctantly agrees to it and he promises it will be the last time. (Where have we heard that one before?) Vlad buckles up and asks where they’re headed. She says they’re not going anywhere. He wants to go for a drink at least or back to his apartment to talk, anything but sitting there in the car which is not exactly high on anybody’s list of romantic rendezvous options. “No! Don’t you understand?” “—I understand perfectly… because I love you.” He tries to kiss her but she turns her face away, totally exasperated with the whole situation. (Shades of Fatal Attraction here?)

Santiago finds out from Gonzo that Dam has taken Fer to the asylum to see Lili. He makes some tasteless funny at Babs that Gonzo doesn’t appreciate. Then he has a run in with his brother, Cad, who tries to flirt with Rory. Santiago manages to hold his own and Cad leaves. Suddenly Santiago tells her he thinks he’s figured out where to find Eduardo. They head out again.

Eddie drives Lili back to the clinic and tries to get her to tell him whether she read the letter Soledad left her for him. With more gibberish she essentially tells him no.

Pris and Vlad end up in a cornfield somewhere near the hacienda. She tells him that this isn’t being in love. He disagrees. He says he loves her more than anybody ever, even her husband, has ever loved her. He knows that it’s difficult for her to accept because she’s not used to having a man really love her. She gets flustered and tells him to stop acting like a stupid adolescent. What happened between them was just a matter of a momentary attraction and it’s over now. He says for her but not for him and he is upset that his feelings don’t matter. She tells him it was only a passing fancy [capricho], not love. He insists that his is not a “passing fancy” any more than hers is a “marriage.” “--You’re marriage has no future and you know it. What is it you’re waiting for in order to get the divorce?”

Pris gets angry and tells him he’s gone too far. He ignores her and says they both know she’s not happy and she can’t deny it. She wants him out of her car. He gets out and she tells him never to come looking for her again. He is totally clueless and wants her to tell him why. He keeps banging on the window and yelling for her to please tell him what he did wrong. (Why is watching her treat him this way so disturbing?) She drives off. He’s frantic to understand why he’s been rejected like this and keeps asking himself over and over, “What did I do? What did I do?”

Prissy’s loveless other half (AB), meanwhile, makes a phone call to Cad at the stables and tells him he’s not about to lose the deal with Powhere Meelk and so to make sure Jacinto gets over to Las Animas right away. Cad finds Jacinto and tells him to get over to Franco Santoro’s place to discuss the details about taking care of the guy’s horse. He warns Jacinto to make sure there are no mistakes or he’ll skin him alive.

Dr. Matamentes (ever feel this guy should be one of the inmates rather than one of the guards?) is sneaking another swig out of his flask when there’s a knock at the door. He pockets the flask and gets fidgety when he sees it’s Dam and Fer. (Ok. Anybody with half a nose should be able to smell liquor on that guy’s breath from across the room, especially the way he’s been at it lately. These two conveniently do not and Viewerville adjusts the controls on its collective beanie to compensate for this temporary lack of olfactory nerve response by the characters.) They tell Dr. D that they are there to see Lili. He stalls and says something about the hospital being short-staffed today. Finally he calls up Adolfina to see if he can buy more time somehow. Adolfina pops her head in the door a moment later. He asks if Lili’s awake, broadly hinting that she needs to answer in the negative, but Adolfina smiles and says that Lili is awake and is waiting for them. Obregon’s mouth drops to the floor.

Santi and Rory show up at Soledad’s house thinking they might find Eduardo staying there, but nobody is around and the house looks empty. Lucio drives up to the house in the SUV. Santiago is muy impactado and not a little upset to find out that Babs gave Sole’s house to their sleazy chauffeur.

Dr. D follows Adolfina and the others into Lili’s room. His eyes go wide just as a mysterious hand suddenly grabs him by his collar and pulls him back through the door. It’s Eduardo and he throws the doctor down onto a couch and tells him things are going to change radically around there starting NOW. DementOh! wants to know why he’s there. Ed growls back that he doesn’t have time to draw him a picture. “Suffice it to say that from now on there are going to be a number of changes at this clinic.” “--And why do I have to follow your orders?” Ed tells him he knows about Lili’s escape and about Ciro’s being hurt by an explosion he set off because the doctor was planning to leave Lili like a vegetable. “--Have you told the Palafox family yet about everything that’s happened?” Matamentes starts yelling at Eduardo that he doesn’t have any proof of anything and tries to run out the door, but Ed’s too fast for him and grabs him. “I’m going to show you what I am capable of. I can prove you’re inept and I will go public about your outrageous acts with the patients here!” Ed grabs Matamentes by the collar again and this time lifts him off the ground about 2 inches. (Damn, this is better than chocolate!) “Do you have any doubt who is giving orders around here from now on?” “—None!”

Back in Lili’s room, Fernanda starts questioning her sister just as Dr. DementOh! walks in. Lili clams up. Fer asks her sister if she was the one who called and left word about Eduardo the other day. Lili hesitates a second or so then says yes. The doctor says that’s impossible because the patients aren’t allowed access to the phones. Fer ignores him and asks her if she saw Ed the other day. “You saw him, right?” Lili tells Fer that she’s not saying anything unless the doctor leaves.

Fer says the doctor is only there in case she needs something. Lili insists he’s got to leave first. He refuses. Fer tells her it doesn’t matter if he’s there or not because whatever she says, nothing will happen to her. Lili avoids answering Fernanda at first by pretending she can only speak gibberish. Dr. D. insists that because of Lili’s illness, Fer won’t be able to have a coherent conversation. Suddenly Lili turns to look at Matamentes. “I am NOT sick! If I don’t answer it’s not because I am unable to but because I don’t want to!” The others are speechless. Yes, indeedy! The old Lil is back and in more ways than one!

[I am going to need a sub for the last 3 Fridays in June-- starting with June 12th. If anybody can sub please let Melinama and me know. Thanks! –ed.]

Jardinera - thank you for the excellent recap!

re: PsychoVlad and Pris --- Fatal Attraction flashbacks here also as that scene played out. Llooooook oooouuuut Prisssy! This actor played a nutter in ADCLG, too. Looook oooouuuut.

I hope Lili doesn’t say too much to Fer at the clinic. She doesn’t know that Damian is on team Barbi. Yiiiikes.

Had to put my Telenovela Beanie Hat on the head when I saw Ed had safely reinstalled Lili in the manicomio, and also started calling the shots w/Dr. O. What cojones. Might need a new layer of foil for next week, too.

Jardinera, thanks for the deliciously hilarious recap. The entire episode was great and lots of fun. Dr. O is such a hoot. On one level I almost pity him.The cut out bok with the hidden flask is a perfect cliche to emphasize his quiet desperation. Thing are only going to get worse fo him I think. The payoff of this episode was the sudden brightness and clarity in Lil's eyes. If I don't miss my guess, she's about to be back with guns ablazin'. Carlo

Let's see how observant you guys are. If you all look closely in the living room or sala of the house, there are old pictures of their ancestors or older relatives. In some of the 'older' black and white pictures you can see what looks like Anibal with a thick mustache. I guess they uised him to model as one of their ancestors.

I'm glad Eduardo found Lilia instead of making 20 episodes of her missing .

And yes, Franco did change his clothes. Evidently Anibal and Camilo made a surprise visit. They did not make an appointment. And Anibal just dragged Camilo out of his bed.

I had to repost my post form yesterday.

The container store has a book/storage space and I was just thinking about Dr. Demento and his flask.

So Martina fully realized Eduardo is Franco. That's good. Next up the nosy but sexy Gardenia. she has got to get with the program. Btw Martina has very beautiful eyes.

Anibal trying to make things happen is pitiful. He also tries to bribe Fernanda with a honeymoon ticket. Couln't he have done that in his office via the secretary instead of going into the mall?

Like all of you, I was glad when Lili made a stand and spoke up to the dismay of everyone in the room. "I AM NOT SICK!!!" reververates through out the rest of the episode. Good job Jardinera.

I'm actually hoping that Dr. O is about to switch teams (so to speak). Unless Babs has some really fantastic dirt on him, there's very little reason for him to remain loyal to her if he joins Team FrEdLil (by choice or through coercion).

Why'd I wake up craving an omelet this morning? Poor Esteve, he sort of mangled that expression. Or should I say he scrambled it? ;-)

I used to have a hollowed-out book that someone gave me as a gift. The title was "Fact and Fancy in Television Regulation." (If you Google, you'll see it was a real book... apparently someone felt that removing the literary portion could only improve it.)

I never owned anything that was worth hiding in it, though. Anyway, with a title like that, it stuck out like a sore thumb on my bookshelf, so it was obvious that that book was up to no good. I guess I sold it at a yard sale, because I don't have it any more.

Fantastic job, Jardinera! Outstanding recap.

I think the unsettling thing about Vlad is the role reversal. Usually the man takes advantage of the woman for an aventura, and then she gets clingy and tries to beg him back because she looooves him. Here we saw Vlad employing all the typical ditched girl's lines, and Pris responding with all the typical dirtball cad guy's lines.

It was the night for Superhero Ed, huh? When he was imploring Lili to trust him, how could she resist, he was downright supernova. And then when he worked over Dr Demento, you're right Jardinera, better than chocolate!

Speaking of Dr Demento, how many people here used to listen to him? I remember back in the late 70's, listening every Sunday night (or was it Saturday?). I'd have to say that my favorite song was "The Cockroach That Ate Cincinatti."

Every time someone mentions Dr D here on MEPS, the jingle goes through my head,
Dr Demento, Dr Demento,
The greatest man in the whole wide world
is Dr Demento.

The hollowed out book being sold in the container store is about President Ronald and Nancy Reagan. It was a real book.

Great recap Jardinera!
Looks like poor Vlad is still a victim. :-) If you thought he was a nutter in Guapos, even more so in Muchachitas.
I just don't think it is a good idea to leave Lili in the manicomio even if the good Doctor knows who is now in charge. I think Barbi will still be in charge. There will definitely be fireworks there as I have to think Damian will report back to Barb and she'll jump all over Dr. O. He was supposed to have her drugged up. I can say his excuse was that he didn't even know she was still there! LOL
Lili may have to stay there to get Ciro healthy. They'll have to put Martina on the payroll to protect her. Meanwhile, Martina should get back with papa and say she is ok.
Glad to see that Lili had some spark there, but may be damaging when Barb hears about it. What more will happen there on Monday?
Besides Lili, others also seemed to fight/talk back and wake up. Damian talking back to Nanda, Nanda after Gonzo. Gonzo after Nanda and Anibal. Anibal after Gonzo.
Now we need Jacinto to jump all over Cad.

Great recap, Jardinera, thank you. Lots happened last night, but I feel like I missed a lot of the content of the variuois conversations. I'm going to utube and watch some again.

I was thinking all along that Ed was going to search for the girls on horseback, and find them himself. I guess that they are saving that knight/white horse resuce for later. At least they were found by the good guys.

The good doctor has found himself in a bad spot, I think that he knows that Eddy really means business, but how is he going to lie to BOW? Or is lili going to be free of the clinic? This should all be interesting. I got the feeling that Lili wasn't going to say anything as long as Demento AND Damian were in the room, that she already knows to not trust her new cunado. (I think that Dr. Demento was Sunday nights here, wow that was a long time ago).

Something is going to happen before Gardenia gets to Las Animas, I just have a feeling...Lucio had better not hurt her.

Great recap Jardinera!
I just have to say I feel sorry for Adolfina - Dr. Demento seems to rely on her for everything he can't think of himself - maybe she should be running the manicomio! I also have a feeling he might be in the manicomio himself if Eddy has his way.
By the way, Vlad also played a psycho in Apuesta Por un Amor - he
does a good villain. Priss hasn't seen the last of him yet.

Really great and hilarious recap, Jardinera! Better than chocolate - exactly!

At first I was shocked Freduardo gave in to Lil's insistence on returning to the manicomio to look after Ciro. In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense. If she stayed at Las Animas, Gardenia would be all over her, definitely not good for her fragile mental state. Margarita and Jacinto's place has a lot of the same drawbacks. Back at the nuthouse, with Matamentos thoroughly cowed by Freduardo, she can nurse Ciro back to health, have a safe place to stay without messing up Freduardo's big plan, and have time to get back her mental faculties after 15 years of being drug addled.

Thanks, Jardinera. This was quite an episode. Oooooh, Ed getting all strong and strict....very sexy. Dr. O is a hoot. One of my favorite things is the way he calls Nasty Barb ..''Barbie.'' I got a kick out of the way he was adjusting the pictures on the walls of his office while stalling for time. And watching him literally fly backwards out of the room as Fr'Ed grabbed him was priceless. I've never heard of Dr. Demento. Was that a tv show or a radio show ? So what will happen next ? I'm still unsure of how Marge got Ed's medallion. He left it in the loft of that barn/warehouse where the expired powerless milk was stored. Did Marge go there and find it ? If so, what was she doing in that warehouse. Maybe I dozed off the other night and missed something. Also, I can't understand why Fr/Ed wants Lucio in Soledad's house. P.S. Jardinera, your comment about Gonzo's leaky gaskets put me in mind of my 15 year old Maytag which has suddenly started leaking a little ,and my old high school friend/Maytag repairman Roger was here a few days ago to tell me he can't find anything wrong...but he's wrong ...it's still leaking just like Gonzo's gaskets.

Susanlynn, I'm a bit fuzzy about this. But I think somehow Margarita's teaching job with the poor kids and the Artesenal Cheese cooperative that Fernanda has been working on are connected. I also think that that deserted loft thingy where Fer and Ed kissed is supposed to be the location for the joint charitable effort. So, I think Margarita told Gardenia she was going there to scope the place out. Thus, she found the medallion.

Loved the recap as always Jardinera. Glad to see Lil stand up for herself but I am fearful what will happen when Damian squeals to Babs. I loved Eddie looking out for Lil. That makes me see that he is a good person but flawed because of his misplaced anger towards Nanda. I'm looking forward to Monday's show and the ensuing fireworks.

Fr/Ed is just the most wonderful, beautiful man alive?!!!!! Gentle, sweet, understanding (in most cases) & the tough guy, with Obregón. I probably could be tough with Obregón.In looking closely at his face again & again & again, part of it is that strong jaw, not to mention the eyes, the dimples, etc. etc. etc

Jardinera, once again thank you for the recap. I appreciate the link for the Three Fates, I never knew their names.

Ibarramedia, yes I did notice the pictures, very Edwardian. Funny that they don't have any of the deceased wife (just kidding).

I am afraid that Damhim (my name for him) is being set up big time by Barbie. It is amazing what she can get people to do. Maybe it is something in the water (or milk) as the case may be.

Lili is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Lili in her drugged induced mind has more figured out than the rest her family.

I wonder why only the girls were sent away and not the boys. They seem to have stayed home for their education.

If this thing gets anymore convoluted I am going to need some Dramamine to keep from getting dizzy.

rsk

When Eduardo agreed to take Lili back to see Ciro, I thought for sure that the first plan would require Lili to wear a nurse's uniform, resulting in a conversation like this:

Ed: It's too bad we don't have a nurse's uniform.
Martina: Um, I sort of... have one.
Ed: What does a mud wrestler need with a nurse's uniform? Oh, I get it - special requests?
Martina: No, believe it or not that's what I wear at home around my dad.
Ed: Wow, things are even worse in this town than I thought.

I'm just grateful that Ed's plan was better than mine.

RSK: "I wonder why only the girls were sent away and not the boys. They seem to have stayed home for their education."

It wasn't even "the girls" as far as I can tell, only Fernanda. Didn't Lili stay behind even after Fernanda was sent away, before Babs killed Monsterrat? (Maybe I'm remembering this all wrong but I think Nanda was gone when Babs killed Montsy and framed Lili.)

I'm thinking maybe Babs made it a point to send Nanda away to prevent her from spending more time with Soledad, who might have been tempted by Nanda's tears to disobey Barb's orders to prevent the kids from communicating.

Not to mention that stupid Gonzo was probably terrified that Nanda would fall in love with some other servant's son.

I'm not sure if we even know whether the boys were sent away to school or not. As I recall, the kids were together most of the time, weren't they? Except for Aniballs who I believe was already in college.

I remember Dr. Demento's radio show (ouch! my age is showing) but rarely listened. I think it wasn't really popular in our area.

Julie, I just reread Episode #3 and Nanda was there when her mother died. She heard Lili scream. Soledad had to break the news to the children, Gonzo just wasn't up to it!

I have never heard of Dr. Demento. When was it popular?

Thanks for the terrific recap, Jardinera. I know this had to take a lot of time.

Fernanda sure showed some gumption by standing up to her extremely upset daddy and telling him that she was going to follow her heart and concscience no matter what he thought - "sorry popi".

Lily living in the sanitorium will put a whole new slant on things - at least until Ciro is well - then I wonder what they might do... hmmm...

Speaking of "Popi's", we can only be guessing what is going on with Martini's popi.

Jacinto can now be Ed's full-time assistant. Franco carried that off pretty smoothly, huh...

It looks like Erikka is heading for another disappointment, sigh.

Ed very cleverly has figured out that somebody smarter than Babs is in charge of whatever is going on.

Dr. Demento was a radio DJ with a 4-hour show every weekend in which he played novelty music.
Monster Mash
Cockroach That Ate Cincinatti
anything by Weird Al
anything by Spike Jones
The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins by Leonard Nimoy
old Homer & Jethro stuff
and Dr D's more-or-less signature song, They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

Thanks, Jardinera for a very funny recap!

I don't think Dr. O. will have that hard a time explaining things to Babs. Babs never even knew Lili escaped. So the only thing he has to explain is why Liliana was more lucid than last time. He can just say that Lili was still totally out of it, and Damian just imagined she was lucid. Despite what Lili just said, she may immediately revert back to not talking, and Damian might not even recognize anything. We should find out Monday.

I thought it was fun how all the people kept going from place to place, just missing each other, such as Martina and Lili leave to go to the hacienda, but don't go in; Jacinto meets them outside the hacienda, takes them to his house, but fortunately Gardenia has left to go to Las Animas; then Jacinto is back at the hacienda where Annibal finds him; then Ed is at Jacinto's; and Santiago is at Soledads. I mean, I picture all these people on the little paths, scurrying back and forth. Of course, we don't really know where everything is located (shades of FELS). And what road what Prissy on when she encountered Vlad? It's amazing they all missed each other!

I've never heard of Dr. Demento , but I used to listen to Cousin Brucie on a New York radio station. He is the voice of the dj you hear at the opening of ''Dirty Dancing'', and he had a cameo as a magician. A popular Philadelphia dj was Jerry Blavat, the Geeter with the Heater...the Boss with all the Hot Sauce. But no Dr. Demento in my memory banks. What city was he in ?

And always the biggest miss of all, Damian & Babs going at it, except by Aurora.

wow, thanks for the great recap...i was shouting at the tv screen last night and kept telling lili to go back to las Animas... i was so sure they would meet with someone bad.....at the looney bin i was so proud of lili for her actions...so normal and forceful..she shocked the shit out of all of them....hahahahaha i loved the "better then chocolate" regarding Fr/Ed i thought he was soooooooo great when telling Dr. Demento who the new sheriff in town was going to be....i hope Martina will stay at the looney bin to protect lili till ciro gets better or passes at least she will be there with him...it seems that Vlad is not going to use the medical info re: anyballs against Pris.....maybe Vlad was gentleman enough not to read it..... we'll see....the whole capitilo was very good last night...... can't wait til Monday... BN...

Susanlynn, I only vaguely remember the Geeter with the Heater. My clearest memory of a Philly DJ was DOCTOR DON ROSE!!! Yes, I am shouting, thank you, because his name was always shouted in the promo spots. My brothers were plugged into WFIL like life support.

Dr Demento was in LA, but he was syndicated across the country. I listened to him around 1976-1977 (from my crib of course), and I think it was from a Philly station.

Just saw an excellent movie, "Sin Nombre", about immigrants traveling through Mexico from Central America on top of trains. It also has a plot dealing with the awful Salvadoran gang Mara Salvatrucha. Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are two of the producers of the movie.

And the point is: one of the main gang leaders was played with evil relish by our old friend Rigoberto from FELS, he of the brain tumor. Interesting to see him playing a villain. His name is Luis Fernando Peña.

Jardinera, Thanks for the fab recap full of fun and clever inserts as always. This show is so lively, I hope they don't slow it down. Ed the schemer and intimidator is so sexy I agree,

Now we have to hope that Lili can help save Ciro so Ed can help them both escape and hide. Shouldn't be to hard to keep Dr. ScaredyCat in his office with one hand on the flask.

Pris is gonnna have trouble with that Vladi boy just you wait and see. It does seem like the attraction might turn to the dark side really soon.

Thanks for another excellent recap, Jadinera. There was almost a Keystone Cops element to this episode, except that the suspenseful chasing around was life and death serious.
Loved the way Ed snatched Dr. O. out of the room for a "come to J*sus" talking to. And the bonus of more useful advice from Esteve. I was left wondering how Vlad found his way home from the cornfield.
La Paloma

Novelera, I love anything I have seen of Gael Garcia Bernal. How fun to look forward to "Sin Nombre" which I have not seen yet. I have two from the last week to recommend:
1. "La Ciudad Sin Limites, made by Spaniards but takes place in Paris.

2. "Al Sur de Granada", also Spanish autobio story about the English writer Gerald Brenan.

First, Jardinera, thank you for the fast, reliable and excellent recaps that you do. I think when Vladi finds that Pris is preg and insinuating her husband is the daddy (when Vladi saw the results that he shoots blanks only), then Vladi will realize why Pris had sex with him and the "S" will hit the fan. Ret.

Thanks, Jardinera for the entertaining recap. I laughed out loud when Dr. O was jerked out of the doorway and, forcefully, given the new rules by Fr/Ed. Dr. O is really going to need that flask hidden in that medical book since he's caught between Franco and Barbie. GinCA

I had thought Vlad would put 2+2 together after seeing Ani's test results and remembering Pris's post-coital "yoga pose," but that didn't happen.

In other soap opera news, someone on General Hospital is also trying to get pregnant (contrary to her husband's wishes). Just this week, she waited till he left the room to assume the "yoga pose," but he caught her and became suspicious. However, when she claimed that it was a yoga pose, he seemed to believe her.

So it appears that there's an epidemic of fictitious men who don't know the relevance of the "yoga pose."

Funny that of all the books Dr. O could have maimed to hide his drink,it had to be his medical reference book. What if he needs to look something else? Just kidding - we know he's not interested in actual doctorin'!

Oh, doris! I kept wondering if Pris had a pet cat to boil up!
========
Carlos: You actually got to post on a Saturday. Yup. This one had quite a few belly laughs and kept us guessing the whole time--the best kind of viewing pleasure.

"The payoff of this episode was the sudden brightness and clarity in Lil's eyes." Ha! Spoken like a true healer, and ITA --and in one sense you could say that Lili has been freed.
========
Ibarramedia: Good catch! I quickly looked at those pictures too, but I couldn't tell on my screen who was in them, even with my "readers" on. // "I am NOT sick!" was definitely the shot heard 'round the world and Lil has laid down the proverbial gauntlet. Let the battle begin!!
===========
Julie: should I admit that listening to Estev's advice about "the egz, Buhddy" cracked me up??? > ; ? p
I gotta give the actor credit tho' because for the most part his accent is pretty decent. But nothin' tops FC in Pasión talking about leaving "et dunn"....
=========
PaulaH: you've put your finger on it about the role reversal in the relationship between Vlad and Pris. The thing is, he's nailed Pris psychologically and she knows it, too. Greed, IMO though, is what's keeping her from getting that much needed divorce, and a misplaced loyalty to family/ Corporate Dynasty. --Guess she's well matched with her hubby in that case.-- She does deserve better in a marriage, just like Vlad said. Her using him merely as stud-bull, though, may be her downfall in the end. --I guess I am secretly pulling for this guy, Vlad, because IMHO, I am an old fogey when it comes to the current day overly exaggerated fine line drawn between "stalking" and simply being attractively, romantically, desperately and healthily, college-try, Carey Grant handsome-heart-throb-in-pursuit "love-sick". I really want Vlad to fall into that second group. ? 8 > }
=============
JeffMN: I'm wondering how long Dr. Demento will be able to keep pulling the wool over Barbie's eyes now that he's been compromised by Eduardo. Hubby's theory is while Barbie can threaten him financially, Eddie can beat his sorry ass to a pulp and so Team Ed wins out.
=====

dorado dave: don't think you're alone in missing half the conversation at times. It's not so bad if the characters have decent diction, but this is the biggest group of actors with "lazy-mouth" I've seen/had to listen to in a novela in ages.
Ooooh! Lucio is headed back to the hacienda and there is Denia walking alone and all pretty in pink.....
=========
MEPS AZ: I was thinking the same thing about Adolfina. She needs to end up running the clinic and the demented doc needs to be left under her care.....
=========
Novelera/BN/Silverfox: you are probably correct about what the best thing for Lil --not to mention everybody else who cares about her-- at this point in time would be. Right now, nobody really has a good "hide-out" for her to stay. They all have lives to live and secret plots and plans to carry out. She would only get in the way, so I guess it only made sense to write her back into the asylum. //
Novelera: Thanks for answering susanlynn's question from last week. I only had a sketchy idea of why Margo went to look around the old warehouse myself and never really thought it through like you have.
==========
Susanlynn: Ha! You actually got your Maytag to last 15 yrs.? I've had two and neither made it beyond 10. I'm not complaining, though. I never had to have a repair man out for them till they just gave up the ghost and died and the repair man gave me the post-mortem run-down on why it was time to buy another. So, tell me, was Roger the Maytag repair man dyin' to have a chat with someone, anyone, just like in those old commercials?
==========
CherylNM/Variopinta/Pirate Babe: Yep. I'm with you when it comes to hunky looking He-men like Fr/Ed and eyes you could lose yourself in..... Easy to see why both Errorika and Nanda cannot help but be attracted to him....not so easy to understand why Denia hasn't yet.
==========
Hombre: Dr. D is such a weasel, he'll manage something, which will be lots of fun to watch. These writers were pretty creative with all the switcheroos so far. I don't see Dam keeping his mouth shut with Barbie about Lili's outburst. However, you may be right that he'll chalk it up to all crazy stuff because he's not that descriminating. Takes him a while. -- He's a two-faced louse who I am anxious to see squashed.
=========
rsk: Interesting take on Barbie possibly throwing Damian to the wolves also. I bet you're right, too. Why share when you can have it all and you need to erase any and all tracks left. After all, boy-toys are a dime a dozen for beautiful women like her.
===========
Ret: I can't wait for the fireworks when Vlad finds out Pris is expecting his baby. IMO I don't think he actually read the letter. If he had he would have realized by now why she dumped him so badly and already confronted her. I think he was too naive by half and that's why I am rooting for him to turn out to be one of the good guys.
=========

La Paloma: Ha! I was tracking with you on all three --Keystone Cops, a "Come to Jesus" and poor, abandoned Vlad being lost in that cornfield miles from his car.
====
GinCA: Some of those scenes with Dr. D were so well-played and edited, it was almost like something from Vaudeville.

OT: susanlynn -- We had a "Harvest Gold" Maytag that gave up the ghost in the same way as yours, in 1995 when it was 17 years old. I replaced it with a large capacity *non-electronic/computerized* Whirlpool top loader, which I've had repaired twice. Last repair guy told me to keep it on life support if necessary, as all the new ones *will* break down every 3 to 5 years.

My high school amigo/repairman Roger told me that appliances today have a lifespan built into them...about 15 years, He sells Maytag. We have had 3 refrigerators , 2 dishwashers, and 2 washers , but the old secondhand GE frig that we use for beverages in our familyroom is still ticking along. It's probably from the 50s or maybe even the 40s. Roger says they could build the appliances to last forever, but that would mean no more sales.

The life expectancy of the hot water heater is 15 years. I replaced mine last November after it stopped making hot water. Cold showers in november is chilling to say the least.

Ibarramedia

Just back from Charlotte...put me in the group that loved "better than chocolate!"...Amen! Looking forward to watching it now.

My Maytag washing machine, olive green, l973, still going strong. In better shape than I am, that's for sure. Never been returned, whereas I need to be!

Thanks Jardinera...clever and literate as always.

Well, how do you like that ! I was just reading the Sunday paper , and there was an article about dj Jerry Blavat. He's going to dj at a local goldenoldies dance. They gave his full riff : ''OK, you kats and kittens , get on your boppin' mittens. Here's some hip babble for you rabble . I'm the daddio of the radio, the boss with the hot sauce . I'm gonna freak and squeak 'til I crack my beak ! One..two...three...BLAST OFF !! And here's the Geator's website : www.geatorgold.net P.S. The word verification word for this post is ''tipsy''...ha.

JudyB: Glad you made it back! This was a fun episodio and so I hope somebody managed to tape it for you.

Thanks again, everybody. I am glad it was worth the read.

OT - - - "The life expectancy of the hot water heater is 15 years. "
Ibarramedia - I wish you'd tell all mine that! We do well to get 10 years out of one. A lot depends on the hardness of water, I think.

Outstanding Jardinera! I haven't had time to read all the comments yet. I must have dozed because I don't remember Fr/Ed lifting the Doc. I'll have to watch on YouTube this morning.

Hope everyone had a good Easter. It's raining here--again.

Jardinera, I can't post until Mondays so am always late to the party. Thank you for the terrific recap which was so much fun to read. Your comments about the Barbinator are my favorites:"reigning and bitchin’ babe, Barbie" and "Barbot smugly smiles from ear to ear at having regained control at Hacienda Elizalde by sowing the seeds of discord once again" and last but far from least: "Bitch-Barbie is elated." :)

I hope Lili's lucid assertiveness doesn't cause any more consequences for her. I don't think the maniac Dr. D is any match for Barbie.

Great comments. Diana in MA

I just watched the Fr/Ed-Demento scene on You Tube. You could feel the strength and power radiating from him. Very sexy. His eyes are so awesome. I hope he beats the snot out of Dr. Demento. We can only hope!

It was definitely worth the read - alas, I didn't have time to read it until now. Good thing I did. "Denia is on her way back to Las Animas and entertaining herself with thoughts about the various ways Don Santoro will kick Lucio’s sorry backside out of Soledad’s house." - LOL - that totally went over my head, I didn't realize what she was mumbling about!

I'm glad that Ed is using his mysterious powers of charm and revenge to do some good deeds: helping not only Lili but also Ciro and the clinic's entire clientele. Also, forcing the Elizaldes to go through with the community center.

Of course, he knows they can't afford the community center, but at least this part of his revenge will help the community. (Until the Elizaldes go bankrupt and have to shut it down; then what? Unless they're donating the warehouse outright...)

Is everybody working today?

I was at a volleyball tournament all weekend so finally got to watch last night! Once a again an episode that just moves right along.

I'm guess Martina gets to wear the nurses uniform and go work and the mental hospital to keep an eye on Lili. Fr/Eds not just going to trust the good doctor to follow through.

Just have to say: Dr. Demento started on the campus of Reed College (Portland OR) back in the 70s before he became nationally known. One of my personal favorites has always been The Pizza's Revenge.

PaulaH, I did a marthon weekend of Alborada (on my Blackberry during VB down time and very little sleep). I was completely hooked and had to get through it! I can see why everyone loves it so much. I think I'm going to get the DVD. WOW! It was wonderful! Thank you!

Welcome back Molly. Did you get to meet with Creemelo?

Hey Connie, no that is at regionals this Saturday if our location doesn't get moved. If for some reason they change our space, then I will be there in May for the Willamette Classic and will see her then. I will make sure my daughter takes a picture of us and I will post it as my profile pic. We've talked on the phone some, I can't wait to meet her!

Awesome Molly. Can't wait.

I know we've probably talked this to death but when I looked on YouTube for capitalo 39 it seemed like that was ahead of where we are.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. Your comments were funny as usual.

I'm glad that someone suggested Martina be Fr/Ed's eyes in the sanatorium (I hope they really use this idea and Martina can actually put that uniform to good use) b/c we just can't trust Dr. O (even though Fr/Ed did scare the mess out of him).

Regarding smell and this novela, remember how Nanda missed the sex on her bed on her wedding day so perhaps most have a poor sense of smell. Though we're probably supposed to give Nanda a pass b/c she wouldn't know what that smell was.

Can't wait to see if Lil will scare them more tonight!

I'm voting for Martina to mudwrestle the Doc. How funny would that be?

Jardinera if you still need someone to fill in for you, I can do it for you. Just let me know. I do the recaps for CCEA on Wednesdays.

I would love it if Martina can don her Nurse uniform to become Liliana's private nurse/bodyguard so Ed can be sure she isn't being drugged or shocked. Then they can work on a rescue for Ciro inspite of his ambitious, greedy wife and scaredy-cat useless son. Ciro doesn't deserve to be sacrificed to the plot gods. Save Ciro!!

Molly~~~If you buy the Alborada dvd, you'll get to see the bloopers which are worth the price of the dvd. A lot is edited out of the story naturally , but it's still good and has English subtitles. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm waiting for another historical novela.

Cheryl, I'm with you on saving Ciro. He must be a tough old bird to have survived thus far. Even if he had the skill, which I doubt, Dr. O really doesn't have a lot of incentive to save Ciro. I think that Lil is safe for the moment though I question the wisdom of her return to Dr. O's inferno. Eddie seems even more frightening than Babs, but only marginally so. Poor Dr. O really is entre la pared y la espada.

Carlos

Susanlynn, I was watching some bloopers that were posted on youtube...Lucero is funny.

I was reading the recaps while watching, so I often skipped ahead and skipped scenes of people I really didn't want to see, like Don Francisco, what a putz! So I think the abriviated version wouldn't be so bad, now that I have seen the whole thing. I would hope they wouldn't cut any of the super good parts.

What I really liked, and I have heard people say the same about Pasion, is the main characters are smart. They fight, there are problems all around them, but they are also rational and listen to each other. Like most humans are willing to do. With FELS I really often felt like knocking some heads together. Also, watching Manana and now seeing Alborada, I realize how rediculously repetitive FELS was and I'm so glad I gave novelas another try. So much to enjoy! Yay! Thanks

I loved Destilando Amor. When I was out of town I would call my boyfriend so he could give me an update. I was totally hooked. I missed Pasion because my DVR wouldn't record it for some reason. I would get home all ready to watch and it wouldn't be there.

Molly, were you watching Alborada on YouTube or did you get the DVD?

I was watching on youtube. User angelyfor has a good feed. Two parts of the final are missing and I searched and couldn't find them, but the recap covered it so I just had to use my imagination. But now I want the DVD.

I wonder if Netflix has it?

Ok, I checked. Netflix has it and Amazon.com has it for $14.99 and Walmart also has it for $14.99. I think I'm going to get it.

Connie, Creemelo is watching it on DVD right now and is loving it! Even being cut down, I don't think I would be to disappointed.

Thank you Jardinera even though I haven't had a chance to read the cap or comments yet. That's a treat for later after some housework. Just wanted to say I loved Francuardo jacking up Matamentes -- he literally picked him up by the collar! And I'm sure, from the title many people were loving Lili shockin' the shit outta everybody with her lucid, defiant answer. I wonder if the charade of Franco Santoro is going to be over already: if it was an early device to get audience interest up. . . .?

And Vlad. One word: Psychotic. OK, two: psychotic stalker. Priss was pissed but she oughta be scared, what a nut job, possibly a homicidal nut job who may have to kill her if she doesn't want him to save her from a loveless marriage and loney life. . . .

Khalilah

I guess if you didn't see the full version you wouldn't know what you missed! I just bought it on Amazon for $11 new plus shipping. Can't wait.

Karen: good catch on the bed business. Yeah, Nanda wouldn't have had a clue.
======
Connie: It will definitely be a blast to see how Dr. D reacts to being threatened by both Barbie and Fr/Ed. Hubby's betting he's more scared by the Edster. I think Barbie is more dangerous than Eddie because she's a homicidal maniac and Ed is just bluffing.
==========
Khalilah: Ed's secret may not last long at all the way everybody from his past is tangling up his plans. I'm thinking no one from The Dark Side will find out till near the end, but Nanda might very soon.

==========

Gloria: It would be terrific if you could sub. You can email me at jardinera654@gmail.com Thanks for offering!

Jardinera, he might be bluffing now...But who knows. I bet he can be pretty darn mean when he wants to be.

DianaMA: Glad to see you back again. Always enjoy reading your comments because they always give a unique twist to things.

=======
Connie: After seeing tonight's episodio, ITA. Ed can be one mean dude. Yowsa!
