MEPS, 4/24/09: VLADIMIR CRIES IN HIS BEER TO DAMIAN AND LILI GOES FOR THE JUGULAR
We begin with last night’s final and most satisfying of scenes and it’s definitely worth a video rerun.
It’s late in the afternoon. At Las Animas Cadmilo is giving Jacinto the third degree. Jacinto denies knowing anything about how Martina came to Las Animas or why she is working there, and he says nobody else lives there with Santoro. Cad orders Jancinto to let him enter the house so he can start nosing around inside and find out what he can about Santoro. Jacinto refuses to open the door to the house because he says Santoro will be back soon and if he finds them inside, he’ll throw the both of them out on their ear immediately.
Cadmilo, His Imperial HighnAss, does not like being told NO and threatens Cinto again with his whip. “Remember those scars on your back, animal? Shall I give you another little souvenir?” Cad raises the whip to strike when all of a sudden Gardenia throws a bucket of water at the SOB and turns him into one mad, wet alley cat, which, of course, is fine fare for our junkyard Chihuahua.
Cadmilo sneers his best “Indian maid!” at Denia and tries to bully her into submission, but Denia, much to Cinto’s horror, refuses to be bullied. Cinto grabs her by the waist and struggles to keep her from an all out frontal attack on Cad, but he can’t stop her mouth. (Hey, we knew that the mouth on her had to come in handy sometime.) She gives ol’ Cadmilo what for and how to. (¡Qué Chihuahua es!) “You’re not going to humiliate me! I don’t work for the Elizaldes now! I work for Don Santoro and he has more class in his little toe!” So, she says, she will darned well do whatever and whenever she darned well pleases. “So, git!” Denia summarily kicks him off the place. (Now that’s what I call a real Taco Belle!) Cad backs down and swears he’ll make her pay then stomps off.
At Loony Land, Dr. Oh!! we see has faked his asthma attack to finagle enough distance from his office, where Eduardo is still hiding behind the door, to insure a private chat with Bitch-Barbie. Barbie gives Dementoh! 24 hrs. to make sure Lili is back in the asylum and tells him she wants a letter to take back which is addressed to Gonzo stating that it’s dangerous having Lili with them at home.
At the hacienda de los Elizalde, meanwhile, Fernanda is showing Lili her wedding pictures. Anibal races in to tell Gonzo they’ve got to (let me guess) talk about something important immediately. He suddenly notices Lili is there and angrily asks why. Nanda explains and he says they really know what they’re doing (not) by bringing her home like that.
Back again at Loony Central, Eddie gets after Obregon for walking off with Barbie to finish their conversation. Dr. Oh!! sneers back that next time he’ll make sure to tell her they have to stay put to talk because there’s a spy behind the door who needs to listen to their conversation. Ed says to watch the smart-mouth because from what he managed to hear from behind the door, it’s clear to him that Matamentes was in cahoots with her all along. Matamentes pushes Ed out of his face. “It’s clear to me that you are a con man! And, by the way, you are dead!” Ed scoffs and asks if he told Barbie the truth about him when the two them were alone. The doctor says he could have but didn’t.
Ed reasons then it must be that the doctor is more afraid of him than of Barbara Greco. He threatens Matamentes again about telling the Elizalde’s and Ciro's wife (Graciela – who is anything but gracious or grateful) about Lili’s escape from the clinic and that Ciro died while trying to protect Lili from Dr. Matamentes’ abuses. Eddie smiles broadly here. “Even though Ciro’s wife couldn’t give a damn about Ciro, she’d love the idea of starting a law suit and getting a big cut for herself out of it, and all sorts of investigations into the clinic would come out of that!” When Dr. Oh!! sneers, Ed makes good on his threat and starts to dial Gonzo's phone number. Obregon quickly cuts off the call and agrees to whatever Ed wants, which is, of course, that Lili is to remain at the clinic without being drugged up, and Martina still watches her 24/7 until he says otherwise. Just to muddy the water a little bit more, before he leaves Eddie handles the identity issue by telling Dementoh! that he’s not who he seems. “It’s just like ‘Barbie’ told you: Eduardo Juarez is dead!”
Back at the Elizalde manse, Lili notices Eduardo’s picture in the wedding album and asks about him. Martina whispers something in Lili’s ear and she knows enough then to play dumb. She looks over at Damn and cutely says Freduardo is much better looking than her husband. Damn registers the insult, gives his best fake grin and leaves to answer his cell phone out in the hallway. The call is from BFF Vlad the Sad who says he is heartsick about something. Vlad in between sighs and sniffles says he just found out he’s going to be a daddy. Damn is WTF impactado to find out that Prissy is the “unlucky lady” [desdichada] who’s expecting.
Across the hall in the library, Any Balls tells his papi that Babs has no reason to be breaking bread with Franco Santoro. Gonzo disagrees and says she’s just as interested in the business as either of them is. AB says that he was the one who initiated things with Franco and so it’s none of her business. He reminds Gonzo that she opposes the business association with Powhere Meelk and so he wants to know what exactly she plans to discuss with him. Gonzo fights through his haze of semi-senility and says he figures she’ll be discussing the benefits of doing business with them. AB doesn’t agree and says it’s none of her affair. “Your wife can’t go around just doing whatever she feels like!” He starts to leave then tells Gonzo to get Babs to transfer the investments from Chicago to the business accounts of Grupo Lactos because they are in dire need of them.
In the hallway again, Damian tells Vlad he’s got to be drunk or sick to come up with a paternity claim like that. Vlad says he knows deep down the kid has to be his but our would-be dad says he can’t exactly explain it over the phone, but Pris knows about it and he needs Damian’s help so that “she’ll allow him to share the marvelous event with her.” He continues to weep and begs Damn to put him through to her. Damn is totally exasperated with the guy and says Vlad has got to be nuts to think he’d go up to Pris’ bedroom and say, “Hi there! My friend Vlad is a wreck and needs to discuss the paternity of the kid you’re expecting.”
The lovesick puppy weeps and begs some more. Damian, he says, could just pretend something and then hand Pris the phone, right? Damn can’t believe he’s having this conversation. “--And tell her in passing that I know about everything! Where did you get such an idiotic idea?” Vlad is desperate. “--There’s no harm in that, and I could tell her afterward that you’ll keep the secret. Please! Please! Get me out of this predicament.” (You know, there are times when you just wish you could look away. This is one of them.) Damn says he still thinks Vlad’s been hitting the bottle hard or been clinked in the head one too many times playing Jai alai because “there’s no other explanation for this nonsense.” Vlad insists that it’s not because he’s been drinking and says he is determined not to lose either Priscila or his child. Damn tells him to do whatever the hell he wants, then, but no way is he going to get in the middle of his BIL, Anibal’s, personal problems.
Cad comes home at this point, looking like something the cat dragged in, and interrupts Damn in the hallway to ask where Gonzo is. Damn tells him and continues his conversation. “This is very dangerous, Vladimir!”
Cad breaks in on AB and Gonzo’s discussion in the library to whine about what Denia did to him. AB tells him to suck it up because he’s not going to lose a business deal with Santoro over some rude maid. Gonzo looks like he’s fighting some heavy duty input overload.
Back to the hallway: Vlad tells Damn that Prissy is an angel and the best thing that ever happened to him. Damn tries to reason this through. “Ok. Let’s see. Let’s see. So why do you think this kid is yours?” Vlad tells him that he got tested earlier in the day and knows he’s fertile. Damn sneers. “That doesn’t insure anything, you retard!” “--No, you don’t understand something! Anibal is not!” Damn is drop-jaw impactado. Vlad begs again for Damn to get Pris on the phone for him. He says he needs to talk to her, to hear her voice and to tell her how much he loves her. (How about a gun? Just swallow the barrel and pull the trigger.) “She’s the first woman I ever truly made love to.”
Pris comes home and enters the hallway on her way upstairs. Damn opens up his cell for Prissy and shakes it in her face. (Somehow, I think he’d rather beat her over the head with it a few times instead.) “Er-r… there’s somebody on the phone who wants to talk to you. It’s Vlad Piñeiro calling.” Vlad whispers, “The man who loves you, my angel, and the father of your child!” (This is sooo not attractive in a man.) Prissy pretends not to remember the name. When Damian says it’s his friend she plays dumb and says that’s nice, but she has nothing to discuss with a stranger and walks off. Vlad hears what she’s saying at the other end of the phone and deflates for only the umpteenth time. Damn gets back on the phone. “You heard her, Vlad.”
Babs comes home now and walks past Damian. He smiles and stops talking as she goes by. Babs enters Gonzo’s office just as AB is yelling about her putting obstacles in his way and her keeping him from successfully doing business with Franco Santoro. Bab's ignores this and hands Gonzo over the letter from Obregon. He reads it aloud. It says that the doctor will hold the Elizalde's accountable for whatever might happen to LIli while she’s away from the clinic.
Back in the hallway, Damn tells Vlad to stop sniveling. He says he’ll come see him as soon as he’s free so that Vlad can explain everything that's been going on with him and Pris. Vlad says fine with him. He’s not going anywhere.
Fer wants to know where the rest of the family is because they’re supposed to be visiting with Lili. Damn tells her they’re all in the library and she goes to get them. Gonzo is reading the letter aloud to the others when Fer walks in. The letter says that “given the disturbed mental state of his patient” Lili as well as the others, all run a serious danger if she’s not returned back to the mental hospital; and that he will hold them responsible if anything happens while Lili is off the clinic grounds. Fer wonders what kind of danger he means and Babs says a little too calmly, the same as what happened to her mother. Babs rubs Fer’s arm affectionately and in sad, dulcet tones (which always manage to grate on my ear) says she’s going back to see what she can do for Lili.
With her cheeriest smile, dear Babs sends Martina on a wild goose chase after Damian so she can get Lili alone. Once Martina’s out of the way Bitch-Barbie says she thinks Lili is plotting something and that after fifteen years she thinks Lili is still as cunning as ever. She hisses that “the war” ended and that she won. She explains that she was the one who won because families always reject and detest the crazy and the murderous relatives, and the family now thinks Lili is both. She threatens Lili that if she tries anything, the next time Lili visits she’ll be visiting her father’s widow; and Lili will be the one responsible for Gonzo’s death.
As soon as Damian and Martina enter the room sweet Babs starts caressing Lili’s face and cooing at her. (Viewerville suffers a major skin-crawl attack.) Lili is crying. Babs, in her silkiest voice, tells the others that Lili is crying out of happiness. As she’s walking away, Damian mentions that he was told she was looking high and low for him. Barbie snickers a bit and says “yes, because it was raining….” and then just walks off, half giddy because she’s so pleased with herself.
Back in the library, Nanda says as far as she’s concerned, Lili has been perfectly happy and has been acting normally. Cad says yeah and she seemed adorable right before she did in their mother, too. AB gets up and says as far as he’s concerned, Lili stopped being his sister the minute she killed his mother. He walks out the door in a huff.
That night Eddie drives up to Silvestre's house to check on him for Martina. He goes inside and starts looking for the old guy. He makes his way through to the back. Everything is in a huge mess. Silvestre is lying on the ground, beaten unconscious, and bleeding to death from a gunshot wound. Ed picks up Silvestre and begs him for the love of his daughter to hang on.
A few streets over, somebody duded up like Indígena Jones, takes a look around and swaggers into Mud Wrasslers' Cantina. It’s the P.I. that Artemio Bravo hired, Rene Manzanares. Jairo sits him down and chats him up. Rene says he’s looking for a guy named Franco Santoro. Jairo thinks it might be the new guy in town who took over Las Animas. One of the waitresses tells them that the new owner of Las Animas is named Santoro. Rene heads out with the information.
In Puebla Purificación Dominga is falling down drunk again. She tells Rory that Santiago has hit the road and was probably only giving them a line. Rory says if she’d just tell her where her mother is she’d be free and clear of her. Dominga says something like “Don’t think I wouldn’t like to” when Santiago returns with a bottle of whiskey for Dominga. He and Rory share a starry-eyed look. He holds Rory’s hand while the hag swills down the whiskey.
Eddie drives Silvestre to Cinto's house. Margarita gasps. Jacinto has Ed put the old man in the bedroom. (There goes the bedspread.) Cinto runs out for the hydrogen peroxide and cotton (like that’s gonna help anything). Margo wonders if Sivestre was in a fight. Ed says he can hardly see so how’s he going to fight? “Everything was a shambles in there,” he says. “Maybe they were trying to rob him,” she wonders, “and him with barely enough to feed himself!” Ed says he’s really worried because the old man’s heartbeat is weak and he’s afraid the old guy’s dying. “This can’t be happening! I promised Martina I’d take care of him. He can’t die!”
Up the road a bit, the Elizalde’s sit down to dinner. Babs smiles triumphantly over at Lili and takes pleasure in secretly terrorizing her. Everybody is oblivious to the vibes going back and forth between the two of them. Anibal, Pris and Cad aren’t eating with them. Damn asks if Pris isn’t because she’s nauseous from the pregnancy. Nanda is excited to hear the news and wonders why she wasn’t told about the baby. Gonzo says they only found out the night before at dinner, but Fer was over visiting with Padre Bosco. Gonzo looks over at Lili and tells her he can’t believe she’s really there at the table with them. The Barbot smiles over at Lili “lovingly” while secretly thinking to herself, “You’re powerless you crazy fool girl! Now you know who rules the roost here!” Lili stares up at her and her panic grows.
Ed wants to take Silvestre to a doctor because he knows Silvestre is bleeding to death, but Jacinto advises against it because they'll ask him in the hospital for his background information. They’ll have to call the police, he says, because it involves a gunshot wound and Ed can’t risk that. “When they ask your name what are you going to tell them, that you’re the defunct Eduardo Juarez or Franco Santoro?” Ed is scared for Silvestre and says he doesn’t care if he is trapped or not. Margarita suggests going for the doctor from Lili’s clinic instead and avoiding any questions. Ed agrees and races out.
Gonzo tells everyone at the table how blessed he feels tonight with Lili there. He hasn’t been this happy in years. Babs continues smiling and serving, serving and smiling over at Lili. Lili stares at the soup tureen and considers her options. Everything goes in slow-motion. Finally, in desperation, Lili jumps up and screams a blood-curdling “NOOOOO!” as she takes a knife from the table, rushes over and attempts to slit the Barbot’s neck. (Viewerville wonders if the woman would actually bleed green.) Pandemonium breaks loose even though, as Uni continually reminds us at every crass commercial break, it’s only a quarter moon. Bab’s starts screaming for help and begging Lili not to hurt her.
Macabre-sounding horns blare and cymbals clash menacingly as Babs continues to scream in sheer terror and to beg for Lili not to hurt her. Unfortunately for Babs, nobody will go near Lili, not even Martina. (Viewerville joins in a primal scream and cheers.) Lili keeps yelling at Gonzo about Babs wanting to kill her and him just like she killed her mother. They try to calm her down and ask her to put down the knife. (Are you kidding? No way! Have at it, Lili! Go for it!) Lili yells over at Fer. “Fernanda! Tell papi to throw her out of here because as soon as I leave she’s going to kill him! She’s going to do the same to him as she did to Mama! It was her not me!”
We are suddenly shunted over to Domicile Dominga, hardly able to catch our breath from all the rubbernecking, just in time to see Santiago get down on his knees and propose to Rory. He goes in for The Kiss, but Dominga literally sticks her nose into it and tells them no kissing before the wedding. Burp. Plop. She passes out.
We get shunted back again to the chaos of the Elizalde Family Hour. Lili screams at her father that they’ve got to watch after him and that the food is poisoned. Gonzo slurps a bit of his soup to show her that it’s not. Damn makes his move when Lili looks over at Gonzo, and then takes her by the wrist to disarm her. Fernanda races out to call Matamentes. Babs has totally lost it and continues to shriek in panic cuz Lili has just upped the ante and proven that two can play at this crazy game. (--Be afraid, Barbie! Be very afraid! Brwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-aaaa!)
Fernanda interrupts Matamentes’ putting game with her call and tells him that Lili is out of control. He gets on his high-horse and gives her a self-righteous “I told you so” then tells her he’s on his way--but not before finishing his putting practice, it seems. Just then Eddie shows up at Matamentes’ office and tells him they’ve got to go quick. The doctor thinks that it's about the problem with LIli and says that he was on his way out to go see about her. Eddie becomes alarmed and screams at him to tell him what’s wrong now with Lili. Dr. Oh!! gasps in panic when he realizes the slip.
Things calm down at the Elizalde’s and Babs finally gets her wits about her. She says that this should be all the proof they need to realize they shouldn’t play around with Lili’s condition. (Fear is the greatest of motivators, isn’t it Babs? Be afraid! Be very afraid!)

Cadmilho is such a whiny crybaby in addition to being a coward. Just has to run to Daddy and complain how mean people were.
Barb was not only threatening Lili with words. She was slowly moving the throw pillow toward her, showing Lili she would strangle her. You could see the terror in Lili's eyes as she looked at the pillow.
What kind of soup was that? It didn't look that appetizing to me.
Loved the doc's putting practice.
La Paloma
Lili was awesome. Of course Barb got her proof, but I don't think quiet the way she expected too.
I finally had to FF Vlad, just to painful to watch. Is he going to boil a rabbit at some point too?
Totally love the doc, I hope he doesn't get offed, because he is to fun to watch!
Cadmil-ho is such a wus, I think that Gardenia could take him, even with his little riding crop- he thinks that is such a weapon, better make the first strike a good one, because it doesn't yield a debilitating wound, and you won't get another chance with it in a real fight. Then the "big" bully goes running tp papa to get the girl fired from her job next door, interrupting his conversation! He is lower than pathetic.
The Babs/Lili scene was chilling, both lucero and Dominka (?) did a great job. I am puzzled by Damian. When he returned after Martina brought him back, he gave Lili the oddest look. Like he realized that Babs had just done something horrifying, terrorizing this girl, and he wasn't thrilled by the thought. Any comments from others? I still think that he is going to break from the dark side...And the scene at the table- the mounting panic, then the attack- fantastic. Notice how nobody jumped in there to save Babs for the longest time? Like Damian was reluctant to rescue her, and n one else was willing. Maybe the pause was just to build the scene...At least now, Babs knows that Lili is not going to be passive, and has rejoined the war that Babs declared as over. Babs, of course thinks that Lili has no protection, that Eduardo is dead, and an easily dealt with in the loony bin
She is definitely in for a surprise. It wouldn't surprise me if Franco takes Lili to las Animas, Martina is going to have to play nurse to her papa now, maybe at las Animas, too?
It is getting very interesting....
That soup reminded me of seaweed soup or perhaps it was spinach soup. Whatever it was, it was not appealing and did look like pond water complete with that algae floating around.
Jacinto and Marge should never answer their door. Franco plops wounded Gepetto down on that bedspread. I guess Jacinto and Marge's house was closer than Las Animas or the hospital. What does he expect them to do? But good thing Marge remembered Dr. O....guess he's better than no one.
Oh, oh, Nurse Martina screwed up. I think she knew Barb was La Hiena so why would she leave poor Lil alone with her and why would Lil let Maritna leave. Beanie time for me. GinCA
* Lili, thanks to Ed.
* Dr. Demento, thanks to Ed.
* Jacinto and Gardenia, thanks to Ed.
* Damian, who wants to jump ship because Nanda is refusing him, thanks to Ed.
* Artemio, who is losing confidence in her and sends a second-string minion, thanks to Ed.
* Grupo Lactos, which she thinks she can't bankrupt, thanks to Fr/Ed.
* The secret that was supposed to die with Soledad, thanks to Ed.
* And finally of course Ed who she thought was safely exiled.
About the only one she has total control over anymore is Gonzo, and he's useless.
Cad - as others have mentioned is pathetic. I think Gonzo almost laughed at him and Ani is too stressed to bother.
Ani - When he made that comment about Lil, I knew I have to see his face when he finds out Barbie really killed his mom.
I hope Fr/Ed, Jacinto and Gardenia discuss Cad soon b/c Cad needs a beat down.
Barb's manipulation of Lil was just horrible. Based on what she's done to Lil alone, I don't see how she can be redeemed. Of all of Barbie's evil plots, the one with Lil to me is a manifestation of pure wickedness.
I'm glad others observed that Barb was actually scared when Lil attacked her. Way to go Lil. I'm also glad Lil did state who REALLY killed whom. When this silly family knows the truth someone (probably Fer) will remember Lil told them that and kept calling her La Heina for a reason.
I like Paula's list of the many ways Ed is thwarting Babs.
Wow, I just noticed Molly's picture. Le pant, le heave.
I just remembered the sleazy private eye Artemio hired. Wasn't he the witch doctor in the truly awful Juan Reyes amnesia show in the jungle?
Camilo and Anibal are both beyond jerks. Camilo thinks his drenching by a maid is more urgent than Anibal's conference with his Papí about the declining fortunes of GrupoLactos. Anibal is all hysteria, all the time. Talk about a one-note guy!
The scene with Lili having a knife at Babs' throat was TRULY satisfying. Finally, someone gets a bit of an edge on the ice maiden. The scene where she holds that pillow and threatens Lili was truly awful. Dominika is really doing a good job. I've only seen her as the villana before.
I watched the scene where gumshoes Rene' went to the cantina. What was the point? he left with exactly the information that Cigarman gave him- that Franco Santoro is living at las Animas. Is he going to report that gem to his boss? I hope that Cigarman isn't paying him too much, 'cause he seems pretty worthless so far. And who could take anyone seriously when he's dressed like that...
And has anyone else noticed the commercial breaks are different now? No happy music and frolicking horse, but dark nights and a kind of dark dawn. Interesting.
I actually pulled that pic from what appears to be his official site, which has this and other lovely wallpapers available for download. I wish I could read Spanish so I could actually enjoy more of the site.
http://www.colungateam.com
One thing I did notice was an announcement of an appearance by Colunga, the actress playing Gardenia, and the actress playing Martina at some sort of fund raising donation party involving paying for poor women to have mammograms. Another thing to like about FC!
It took me awhile to figure out how to creat an account, but I finally did and it gets you to page that is still mostly under construction. It has a gallery of pictures but they are all branded with the site name when you enlarge them to view them. They have a section for video and something else coming soon, but I wasn't sure what. I think it is still a relatively new site, so maybe it will get better as they progress.
On the topic of Damian, I am hoping for a little redemption. He just doesn't seem all bad. During the dinner it looked like Martina was trying to keep Gonzo from interferring with Lili. It was kind of funny. I was thinking they were all trying not to get to close for fear she slip with the knife, but it made it look like Martina was kind of letting her have at it.

Pris
Babs
Silvestre (with a knife)
The gilipollas Camilo, runs to papá 'cause Gardenia picked on him, good grief.
I was afraid we were on the verge of a "jump the shark" moment with Lil holding the knife to Babs throat. Everyone just stands around yelling & in TN time it takes forever to disarm her???????
BTW must be servants night off. Babs serving the green soup.
Vladimer is going to be a real problem, maybe even dangerous.
Both Damian & Gonzo act like simpletons around Lil.
variopinta
I'm not sure how afraid Barb really was. I have to think a lot of those cries were made up for everyone's benefit. But, I have to agree it probably surprised her quite a bit.
Seems to me Ed could have Jacinto and Margarita take Silvestre into the hospital. They can say they went to visit and found him like that. No need to get Ed involved. Go to have Dr Oh! help doesn't seem like too good of an idea. But, Dr Oh! did keep Ciro alive for awhile. Ciro flatlined in the hospital and the good doctor kept him going for awhile.
Connie: You will have to add Vlad to the crying list from last Friday. :-)
Dorado Dave: I agree, the gumshoe appeared to get information he already had. Que? What was that deal. Definitely overpaid.
Variopinta: "BTW must be servants night off. Babs serving the green soup." I suppose most of that was for Lili's benefit. Babs sent them out of the room so she could bait Lili into going crazy. It worked. :-( And...
A new list! Besides the crying list from last week, a biggest huevos list. Oh yeah. :-)
JeffMN
Julie: Vlad, total crazy. Hard to say if homicidal or not. Doesn't look like you would be able to pay him off either. Lovesick pit bull. :-)
JeffMN
Jacinto and Marg need a car. They couldn't have gotten Geppetto to the hospital on their own. And if they went over to check on a friend, and found him like that, how would they get him out, on the bike? Fr/Ed should drive them to the hospital and drop them off. Don't they at least have a phone in their house?
My big concern for Lili, is how does the hospital staff show up to get her out of the house and NOT sedate her? Unless Martina gets her calmed down and can get her to walk out on her own. You know Babs is going to be expecting Dr. O to show up with giant needle.
JeffMN
Jeff, are you sure the gumshoe is Acacia's uncle? Because I thought we decided that the groundskeeper at the cemetery was Acacia's uncle. (I don't think the witch doctor and Acacia's uncle were the same guy, and I'm pretty sure the gumshoe is the witch doctor.) Maybe I'm thinking of someone else?
Need a crazy looking/acting dude and he's your man. The cemetery guy was not Acacia's uncle, but I can't even remember what he looked like now.
JeffMN
Desdichada: Des- is un-. Dichada is blessed. Unblessed= unfortunate/ unlucky. But perhaps it's also a tactful way of saying "not blessed [with brains/a clue/a sense of direction]."
wow! what excitement...barbie baby needs to watch out...i don't think lili will hold back anymore and when she gets a chance again she will sock it to her...(babs)Vlad... is such a butt head and hard headed.....but if he is truly obsessed with Prissy....she is in for a looney ride with this guy...and needs to keep a straight face in order to keep Anyballs from finding out her game....can't wait to see where this is all going to land....someone definately needs to kick Cadmillo's butt real good and bring him down afew notches....what a jerk....Santi and Aurora are on to something big...
once they find out who Rebecca Sanchez is(barbie)they need to take this info back to the family and lets see babs reaction... yeah...BN in CA
Did it seem like the guy in your story was putting his girlfriend down (hence your impression he was calling her a ditz)? Or was he just saying she has bad luck? (In the situation of Damian talking about Pris, I guess it could go either way.)
===============
Nope, I've never seen soup like that before. Looked like cooked grass.--The actress playing Dominga is such a great character actress when she gets the chance to do something besidees playing the sweet best friend or duped loving madre! She has got disgusting down pat and she makes you forget the other roles she's played, so you just see her as this drunken pig of a lush. --The guy playing the P.I. is a great actor also. I'm amazed at the way he changes his look and his mannerisms each and every time he gets a new character to play. These guys don't get the big billing, but they definitely are major cogs in a novela's machinery.
============
Wow! The knife attack was mesmerizing! I felt guilty for cheering Lili on. I got Lord of the Flies vibes off it I guess. Seeing Barbie lose it was worth the price of admission.
======
Now as for Vlad, the guy is really letting me down. I was in his corner, even thought he had a bit of sex appeal, but after this wimpfest I have to admit I was turned off, tuning out and anything but turned on! (My appologies to Mr. Leary.)
The soup. I would guess some kind of greens, perhaps something local, simmered in a chicken broth with some lemon juice. It's a good way to make soup with spinach or kale.
Also I thought I saw (well, I thought Lili was hallucinating) a pill floating in it, but it must have been a soup cracker or something.
So Lili was faking, right? I wasn't sure if she was doing it on purpose to go back to the safety of the manicomio, or if she was flipping out for real from the stress of being out of her safety zone and surrounded by hostile people (Babs and her two useless brothers). She's still very skittish.
And yet, she's still got bigger huevos than Aniballs and Cadmilo.
Yes, Julie, I too think it looked like a kale soup. (Sauted onion then 1/2" diced kale and stock added, some red pepper flakes and maybe a little nutmeg, then a squeeze of lemon and some grated parmesan at the end...without cooking the kale to death. I learned one from Jaques Pepin on TV like this that started with a little country sausage as the flavor, and included potatoes with the kale....mmm)
And very entertaining recap, thanks Jardinera!
I loved Lily going crazy on Barbie, but I was thinking hey, where's Martina?? Why was she cowering in the corner when she usually whoops some ass and takes control of the situation?? That was sort of a beanie moment though it was all in the serviice of dragging out the knife at the throat which was pretty darn satisfying.
I think Vladimir is going to be a real problem,,,and fun to watch in a pathetic skin crawly way. I like the role reversal thing with him acting as the female would usually be portrayed. Homicidal?? Probably...this is a telenovela!! Whoo hoo!
Priss is aparently on a mission from her family, the competition to GrupoLactos, to merge the two empires by marriage and producing an heir, but it looks like there are major complications ahead!
There are big backstories yet to be revealed yet there is plenty of action and movement in the here and now, I hardly stop to think about who Artemio Bravo is, what his real relation to Soledad Cruz is, and why he is out to get the Elizaldes and what he could possibly have on Rebecca to keep her doing his bidding all these years.
I watched the Making Of piece and it was very interesting to hear all of the Latin actors talk about how important it was to do a film, with a budget, in Hollywood that was all about Latino people. And that the story centers around immigrants being in very stratigic places, and yet invisable. It wasn't something I had ever given much thought. Of course being caucasin in the US I think sometimes it is very easy to be oblivious. But it made me stop and think and really listen to them and appreciate the pride they took in the project.
And it was a fun movie.
Susanlynn, you meant to say that he was the rebel friend of Adolfo Solis? And the Fels witch doctor in Las Barancas? He sure lost a lot of weight when he was in Fuego.
He seemed Chubby in Amor Real.

Jardinera: You're going to have to give up looking for goodness in Vlad, not there. :-) Or... I may be the most surprised here. LOL
Ibarramedia: Wow, yes, Martina was doing a good job of blocking out Gonzo. I don't know if she was trying to help out Lili or just trying to keep Gonzo from hurting himself? Replaying it a few times, and no one helping out Barb. I guess most of them were just hoping... like we were. But... Too early from anything to happen to Barb. When Damian finally took action, I think part of it may have been to save Lili. He may have seen that she was distracted by Gonzo and thought he better get Lili out of there before Barb did here harm while she was distracted. Ok, maybe just wishful thinking. LOL
JeffMN
Also, Damn probably would have gotten in big trouble with Babs if, after a reallllly long wait, someone else had come to her rescue. He has to act like he's on her side.
And I have come to the conclusion that Vladimer will be a menace.
I, too, think that Anibal is going to be one of the biggest problems in this novela. He's jealous of Barb, mistrustful of his siblings, despises his wife and knows too many secrets. Besides this, he's a loose lid.
Then there's Camilo. All I can think of when I see him is Liver Lips.
Well at least Lil "outbrust" will get her out of the hacienda b/c with Barbie there she isn't safe. And since Fr/Ed has scared Dr. Oh again I think Lil will be safe there. The next thing Fr/Ed needs to do is start Lil transition into normal life.
Monday should be very eventful. Where will Dr. O go first? How will Dr. O act in front of Barbie (specifically will he drug Lil or hesitate b/c Martina is there)?
What a good acting job on Sergio Sendel's (Damian) part and also Dr. Obregon (can't remember his name).

Desdichada means unhappy, it could also be used to mean unlucky if the word is said with certain resentment "La muy desdichada", but it's usually unhappy. It's not an insult. Dicha means joy.
The soup they were eating looked like spinach soup, they also put olive oil in their plate before eating.

Jardinera, your recap is awesome. I get more out of the recaps and comments then the Novela itself.
Its funny because on the behind the scenes real on Alborada, it is mainly Lucero. She obviously likes to have fun on the set. There is one shot where she starts doing a funny voice and FC looks at her like she is nuts. He seems mostly pretty serious and there to get the job done. Which as an actor I can respect, but if you are working together for months on end, you've got to have some fun too.
But everything I've read about him is how professional and truly nice he is. Definitely an interesting person. Always wonderful to watch him on screen.
I watched Ladron at about the same time as "7 Dias." I posted a review on NetFlix. Good movie too. Un consejo - turn on the English subtitles. It's so full of slang, it was VERY hard to understand w/o subtitles.
She later did it again at a concert in Acapulco and was reprimanded by the Televisa exacutives because they didn't want her to look ridiculous, but she did it again later at a concert in Chicago.
She also has great behind the scenes footage of Mi Destino Eres Tu with co-star Jorge Salinas, they both used to joke around alot and were always so flirty with each other that people started to spread rumours about them, but they were just good friends.
Jarocha.
Doesn't Martina know the evilness that is La Hyena? I would think she
would be watching her like a hawk and not leave Lili alone with her.
I have one wish (well, actually several) re this novela. I hope that stupid, senile Gonzalo doesn't die still not having a clue as to what he brought into the family.
I will have to add Vlad to the list for sure. He makes me gag. He's beyond creepy.
Why do they always want to take someone's pulse when the have a giant hole in their side bledding on the bed? I kept yelling, stop the bleeding, stop the bleeding! Ack.
Molly, great picture. Is that the same horse we see going to commercial?
Ibarramedia
Connie, I think it is one of those horses. Looks Fresian like Carpricho. It made me wonder if he is working with it for something we will see later. Okay, maybe I'm just hoping. I still love the scene in Alborada when he comes racing down the beach on horseback.
Jarocha, Lucero seems like she would be fun to hang out with. I'm glad she does what she wants. Its nice to know these people are human! Good for her.
Gonzo was ridiculous with his baby talk and sign language, but he and Nanda were the only ones who were happy and touched to have Lili at home and he was trying his best to communicate with her and make her feel at ease. His little toast at the table was very sweet, as was his trying to drink the soup to reassure Lili. Too bad he's such a dooofus.
My candidate for redemption is definitely Damian. Full disclosure: I have a thing for Sergio Sendes, but also Damian hasn't done anything so dreadful so far as to make him marked for the pie cart. He was nice to Lili even though a little awkward with her, pretty much the way he might be with a little child. I see Barbara, Artemio and the mud club owner as the only truly unredeemable ones so far, with Camilo and Anibal right behind them.
Jardinera, your recaps are a pleasure. They are so clear and detailed as well as funny and insightful.
Nonni J.
Here's an updated list:
1. Most believable and realistic crying—
A tie between Nanda and Liliana
2. First runner up to believable and realistic crying--Gardenia
3. Most dainty crying--Aurora.
4. Most tears produced in one scene--Soledad
5. Crying for someone else that is in pain--Ciro
6. Best macho man crying--Jacinto
7. Worst macho man crying (this one is debatable)--Fr/Ed
8. Most annoying and nobody gives a S***--Gonzo
9. Crying for someone who doesn’t give a rat’s a$$ about you--Natasha
10. Most dramatic and not believable—Barb
11. Seriously dude, grow a set--Vlad
12. Worst and “I don’t ever want to see it again” crying--Geppeto
The special guest tear (still) goes to: Damian
Nonni J. I thought Barb was faking it too.
Jarocha: Thanks for the clarification of desdichada, so I hope you felt my translation was the correct one considering the sacrcastic gestures and facial expressions from Damian, who doesn't think twice about double standards when it comes to sex and women.
============
Nonnie J: Welcome! You may be exactly correct about Barbie playing everybody for a fool, including me! I wondered why such extreme panic and tears after Lili was taken off her but only a second or two and for whatever reason, I went the other direction. You are possibly correct that she wanted to insure an incident and she got what she wanted, but then again, maybe she got more than what she bargained for out of that confrontation. I mean, concerning the knifing incident, maybe that did take her by surprise as even a small framed woman can have a weightlifter's strength in a wild state like that when the adrenalyn kicks in. She could have miscalculated. Barbara might have been using all that strength (don't remember any jujitzu training of hers) to keep Lili from making that attack on her neck actually successful. That will be part of an even greater plot twist which will make the story that much more fun to watch. */; ? )

Ibarramedia: You'll have to go back to last week's page for the email to find out exactly. I haven't any idea, but I figure she's got to recoup for the supplies and postage at least.

In defense of the soup:
Family soup receipes were an art in my backgroud. The artistic part was putting in leftovers that nobody would spot or object to.
That green weedy thing was probably greens. You may find that soup in the canned soup isle or the ethnic foods isle. Look for collard greens on the label. Yep, that recently fadish green vegetable which medical science suggests can reduce risk of cancer.
Or you can taste that pot liquor (broth in which greens have been cooked) and decide "Is that really too ugly when it tastes so good?"
Now back to the comments I missed over the weekend :-)
Abuelo P
So enjoyed Franco's come back to dr.O when he thought 'the fantasma' was about to call BAR BI and Franco was calling Don Elizalde. What is barboso anyway?
I want to tie a rope around Damian and Pop Elizalde seated in front of a video of people explaining how ridiculous they are being. Put it on loop. Sign language ? to a mental health patient?! Maybe Lili can treaten them with eye opening clear logic before they cart her off to the manicomo. Something like Popi you and Damian don't look quite bright, you need help.
I'm not sure I'm too confident as to how Dr. Obregon is going to treat Silvestre. Tonight should be another fun episode.
The grossest thing she did was the dead bugs at Thanksgiving, which to this day no one knows! I was making mashed potatos out of the Betty Crocker buds and they had bolweivels(sp). I didn't notice until I started pouring. Mom was like, "whatever, they will just look like pepper specs!" She even ate them. Ewww!
I'm a pretty straight forward cook, you find any nasty surprises in my food!
We never threw away left overs. There were some things I would get so sick of! I've gotten very good at learning to cook just enough for a meal because I hate eating leftovers, it was such a huge issue growing up that I am resistant. Don't make em, don't have to let them go to waste!
That was what I thought. That she was hoping Lili would flip out, but was not expecting to be attacked with a knife. She was probably frightened by the attack, but could have hidden her fear very effectively if she'd wanted to, at least after the first second or two.
Soups:
I do remember the stone soup story.
Weirdest thing I ever made was stock out of chicken feet. If you can find chicken feet and are not squeamish, try it, because it makes AWESOME stock.
I can't think of a scenario where I'd want cream soda in a soup except for maybe some kind of cold fruity soup. Which I wouldn't make anyway (though I'd eat it). Or maybe you could use a little creme soda if you were making a sweet soup like butternut or pumpkin soup. But I wouldn't.
(Note to those who are unfamiliar: Creme/cream soda is a vanilla-flavored pop. There's no cream involved and it's not salty.)
I've heard of using Sprite or 7Up in gazpacho, but it sounds horrid and I think the idea probably came from a soft drink company. :)
La Paloma
This episdode was SO FUN! I am enjoying all the spunk Lili can dish out and hope Ed/Franc can save her so she can bring the Barbinator's facade right down. Vlad is fun because he is a trouble maker and although I love Prisc and don't want her to suffer, I can't wait until Anibal gets his just desserts.
I like cream based soups, but really whats not to like about heavy cream and butter?
Has anyone out there heard of putting Seven-Up in potato salad to minimize the mayo? I had a friend in high school (many, many moons ago) whose mother did that and I still remember her fabulous potato salad! Yum!
