MEPS 5/25 - Cigarman is stymied and Aurora gets kisses on the Astroturf as the anvil approaches...

Oh goody! A lot happened tonight! Lucky me!

From yesterday: Barbara tells Cadmilo: "we've been unfair with you. Now - what you did once, do it again - go find stuff in Franco's house. I need to know all about his life, his women, where he's worked... don't involve anybody else, that was a disaster with Lucio."

Cad is all happy playing spy, he sighs, "Mission Impossible! But what if it goes wrong?" "I'll take all the responsibility." [Anybody believe that?] "When?" "Tonight!"

  • Esteve eggs Fr/Ed on, assuring him Fer will be eager to make things right, and she doesn't think like her torpid (heh) brothers, so ask her out already!

After getting a safe installed in a closet in order to protect his precious stuff, Fr/Ed asks where his mother's things are. Jacinto sez they're in Gardenia's closet.

Then Fr/Ed calls Fer and asks her to come over for dinner. She reminds him their relationship is just biz, so why not meet at the office? He sez no, there are special things, only about you, which must be told in a private way.

She gets all hot and flustered when he turns up the sexy. We don't get her answer.

  • Vlad tells Prisila: Anibal interviewed him for only five minutes, asked only two questions, and then gave him the job. So now Vlad can spy around and find the papers pertaining to Prisila's squandered fortune.

Pris sez, I complied with my end of the deal, now tell me: who told you about all this?

Vlad is such a pathetic liar. He tries to distract her, first with a french fry and then with chocolate, and then by calling her gordita [which means little fatty, and I myself would not care for that endearment one little bit.] Pris persists and says, "It WAS Damian wasn't it! He's your best friend."

She hammers away and Vlad stammers away and finally he very unconvincingly says, "It wasn't Damian it was uh, uh, uh, Flor! But she thinks the world of you so don't make trouble for her." Pris doesn't believe him and flounces out.

  • Gardenia is curious to see what Fr/Ed has in the small bundle sent from America. She is surprised he has so little stuff. "Oh this isn't all my things, it's just the most important things..."

He shows her a pic of him with his mommy; the letters from mommy; a picture Margarita drew for him; one of those Lone Ranger mementos from Jacinto; and - and - of course, the letter Gardenia wrote him. "See, the letter you gave me the day I left, I kept it all this time, now do you believe you are very important to me?"

She cries and reads it: "... and when we're big we'll be sweethearts - and your ma will live with us till she's way old - don't forget me." She cries some more and asks if it was really important to him. "Yes it helped when I felt so alone. I didn't forget you. But understand, not all loves are equal. The soul chooses - and my soul chose that you would be my little sister. I'd give my life for you." [This was a very sweet little speech.]

She asks about Fer. "She was the love of my childhood, but it's over, she's married." "But her husband abandoned her." "But she's married." I think Gardenia said, "but things are different in Gringolandia...?"

He changes the subject and asks her to bring him his mother's things. He tells himself after Gardenia leaves (as if we could have forgotten): "Oh, how I long to find Fer's old letters."

  • Santiago and Aurora do a lot of sweet gambolling about on the fake grass. He spouts about princesses and castles, and having her ride a horse to the wedding; she says she'd rather walk, and moans, oh how she wishes she had some family to walk her down the aisle at their wedding.

He suggests they invite Dominga. She shudders at that notion, but thinks Dominga knows where her mother is.

Oh well. Santi and Aurora say they'll be in love till they're way old and cuddle on the Astroturf some more.

From his ogling-post in the giant ferns, Cadmilo looks up Aurora's skirt. He puts his sunglasses up and then down and then up again to see which way results in a more penetrating perspective.

If Becky were still recapping she'd point out there's an anvil over this sweet scene...

  • Relatives? Anvils? Be careful what you wish for. Turns out Aurora left her (white) pocketbook in the dining room, so of course Barbara rooted through it. She found coins, opens Aurora's lipstick(?), then of course finds the "R. S." handkerchief, breathes, "Rebeca Sanchez," folds down into a chair muy impactada into the commercial, cries, stuffs the handkerchief into her (black) pocketbook and rushes off to see Cigarman.

Cigarman asks where she got the handkerchief. "From a girl who's at the hacienda. You gave this to me when I was 15 years old!"

Cigarman refuses to answer any questions, suggests theft and coincidence. Barbara entions the girl's name is Aurora and Cigarman is impactado. "Yes, and she's 20 years old, the age my child..." "Your child died at birth!"

Rebeca: "Then how do you explain her having it?" "Somebody who was in my service... you don't get to make any requests or demands. I'll investigate." "You told me there were no remaining traces of Rebeca Sanchez!" "OK, I was wrong. But I'll correct it. Just get her out of the hacienda and I'll take care of her." She wrinkles her nose and leaves. He swears furiously and slams the table.

  • Dominga is dumping Aurora's laundry all over and swearing when - ruh roh - Cigarman calls. He asks her where Aurora is, but before she has time to make up a lie he says: "I know where she is, she's at the Elizalde hacienda, go get her." "I'm so embarrassed. I'll get her back and then bury her in stone and mud." [It went by sort of quickly, I'm not sure if she actually meant bury her or just lock her up again.] "Do it, or you'll be the dead one."

  • Aurora comes back in the dining room and is glad to find her pocketbook. Cadmilo appears, he is SO disgusting, he tries to whine his way into her good graces, obtain her sympathy: "Nobody loves me around here, only mama loved me, but now you're great, it's so nice to have somebody to talk to, you can count on me for anything."

Santiago enters and hugs his fiancee. Cadmilo: "Oh you two are just the sweetest thing." He's surprised to hear they're getting married but makes a show of being nice. Santiago is suspicious.

  • Villa Madero: Fr/Ed has come to find Jairo in the Bad Love Bar. Jacinto joins him so he doesn't have to beard the lion alone. [Why is Fr/Ed wearing this dumb striped shirt? My brothers wore these shirts when they were 8 years old.]

A whore shows them into Jairo's office. Jairo's tippling because, well because he's a drunk but also because Cigarman has just threatened him hard, croaking "You've got twelve hours, no more, to tell everything that Manzanares investigated."

Jairo bluffs to himself that he's not afraid but jumps guiltily at Fr/Ed and Jacinto's entrance.

He tells them he's very busy. Fr/Ed: "Yes, your time is pretty full, what with all that violating of houses and women. Something of mine is lost, and I think you have it. I'll come to the point, you and Lucio and Manzanares robbed me and almost raped my assistant, then you killed Manzanares." "What are you saying," Jairo manages feebly.

"Jairo, you have too many problems not to cooperate, homicide's no small matter." "Collaborate? You're not the police." "No, if we were the police you'd be in handcuffs."

Jairo pulls a gun and waves it around in a couple of scenes and refuses to tell them anything. "Don't shoot the only person who can help you, I haven't filed a complaint, what was taken from my house?" Jairo suggests he'll make problems for Silvestre and Fr/Ed says he'll be a dead man if he does.

They leave, Jairo staggers, it appears this was all just so Fr/Ed could find out if Jairo knew about his real identity. Conclusion: no! And neither does Cad, because if he did, the Hyena would know too. Fr/Ed has dodged a bullet, or quite a few.

  • Silvestre is discharged from the doctor's care with Margarita to take him home. This is the doctor who's sweet on Martina and he sighs thinking about her. And why do we care about this?

  • Martina is trying to interest Lili in crocheting but Lili, sitting on her insane asylum bed with her legs pulled up tight, just says "Eduardo, Eduardo..."

Wow, thanks for the recap Melinama, another quick recap tonight. Yes, a lot happening.

I guess now we know, Art pulled the old tried and true TN favorite, died in childbirth trick on Barb. Now Barb's wheels are turning and you have to wonder how that will affect her. Is it possible to be redeemed later?

A lot of potential danger out there. I think Ed should keep his team closer together and always have a couple of people together to watch each others back.

Darn, I think Aurora might have been believing that spiel that Cad was spewing. Heck, I think Santi almost believed it. :)

So Ed having the little talk with Denia, that turn Denia off to him or heat it up more? Hey, he kept it all those years. Does she still think she has a chance?

JeffMN

Great succinct recap, melinama!!

I'm worried about Freduardo sending Denia for those letters. I don't trust her to bring them.

Cigarman isn't thinking clearly. Doesn't he think Dominga is going to stand out a bit showing up at Hacienda Elizalde?

Gracias, Melinama, just wanted to say even before reading recap that yes, discovering (or at least suspecting) her daughter was still alive did actually touch Babs! There were some parts with her and Ciggie I didn't hear so can't wait to get back and read that.

The scene between Eddie and Denia was sooo touching, but my girl is still like, "I don't want to be your freakin' sister!" I heard that, Denia. Jeff, I don't think she's giving up at all!

And Doctorcito sighing Martina's name, that's gonna be a match!

Khalilah

I want Liliana out of the looney bin already!!!

Read the recap, thanks, again! Yah, Melinama, maybe they're saving Lili for some critical point blowing Artermio's cover or something. You know after so many fake tears, Bab's little breakdown wasn't moving at all. Are we supposed to think having her baby supposedly die at birth turned her into the heartless, calculating wretch she is today? Was she herself stolen from her parents and "raised" by Artemio who violated her trust, impregnated her and imprisoned the baby with the drunken Dominga? Por que?

Khalilah

Wow, quick recap, I read it before I went to bed, tks.

When Dominga shows up at the Elizalde hacienda, Aurora will be so embarrassed & ashamed, she'll just leave.

Did I miss some discussion that Jacinto wasn't really fired? I never heard a word of explanation & Gardenia is going along like nothing happened.

Jairo is always waving that gun around, but it doesn't concern our hero, what a man!

Another busy night at Las Animas, dinner with Fernanda, Camilo & Jairo snooping around. I hope Fr/Ed puts all his Eduardo stuff in the safe.

I was surprised to see Babs show some genuine emotions.

Camilo the scumbag is always lurking around, disgusting canalla. And what about Natasha?

I agree that Fr/Ed's talk with Gardenia was touching. I love his sweet, melodic voice.

~Caborita

Melinama, thank you so much for your witty recap. I don't know about the rest of you, but lately, I want a barf bag every time Cadmillo comes into the camera. Guacala de pollo! (spelling?)

Because I'm a latecomer to MEPS, I'm pretty confused about what went down with Cigarman, Barbarecca, Dominga, and Aurora, but I'm willing to wait and see.

Meanwhile, I hope to hell that when Ed sits down with Nanda, he doesn't spout any more lies, but pulls out the passport and the letters and lays las tarjetas en la mesa at last. Probably too much to hope for, but I'm getting really weary from the unnecessarily dragged out suspense with telling her who he is, and of course, the striped sweater.

Dona Gringuita

Thanks Melinama, great to read the recap with breakfast.

Fr/Ed needs a plan. He's got to get his team organized. Maybe have them all move into his house. Putting them in hiding won't work, too many loose cannons. He needs to get everyone on the same page. Hire a few guards too. That silly safe is just as easy to get out as it is to put in.

Ed was wonderful with Denia, but she heard only the parts she wanted to. Denia is stubborn and immature, she's not giving up on him. Novelera's right, Denia isn't the best person to pick up those love letters...

Free Lili!

Anonymous 9:03, best way to catch up is to read the recaps starting from day one! Granted, it'll take a while, but you'll have a good ride...

Thanks for the holiday recap, Melinama. I had watched the really touching scene with Eddy and Denia several days ago, and was wondering when it was going to be shown. Like others have said, she hasn't given up on him, but I don't think that she intentionally will mess up the errand to get the lost letters. I think that was a plot device to get her away from the safety of Las Animas so that ratbastard Jairo can do intercept her. If I were Eddy, and so concerned for her safety- ain't no way that girl would be out doing errands by herself til the bad guys were accounted for. Jairo is loose, and a screw loose, and they don't know that Lucio is in the slammer.
Another clue as to the Cigarman/Babs/Dominga ties.. Still a lot of explaining to be done there. What is Babs going to do? Almost saw her softening up- is she going to protect Rory soemhow, secretly cross Ciggie? And what's with Rory even listening to Cad?
I am coming to like Fernanda more all the time. She has been dumped on by everyone, and still keeps herself together, and her head up, and looking better all the time. Should be an interesting dinner with Eddy

Gringuita- there is plenty we don't know about the Cigarman/Babs/Dominga/Aurora connection. Right now, it looks like Ciggie took Aurora away from Babs at birth, told her the baby died, and paid Dominga to raise and keep her from the truth of her parents. We don't know many details

Thanks, Melinama. I am wondering how and why Aurora has the handkerchief with R S embroidered on it? Artemio certainly doesn't have an ounce of compassion in him to give the baby a momento of her Mom. Babs real crying was dry eyed but she can cry copious fake tears at her whim. GinCA

Thanks for the great recap Melinama. You are absolutely right that Vlad is not good at lying. He really is a sweet innocent. Don't forget, Pris was his first, last and only. He told Damian that he doesn't tell lies.He would be much better served sticking to the truth...much less to need to remember.

Carlos

Gin, I believe that Aurora found the hanky in the wardrobe along with the money order. Now why Dom would have is a little puzzling. It's a bit small to swaddle a baby in.

Carlos

Vlad is a nitwit. He could have told Pris that Dam did tell him that Any?balls was losing her money with the inference that it was before Dam disappeared- perfectly plausibleand alsmost true. The "RS" snotrag is just another plot device. No reason that Dminga would have it, none at all. Nor the copy of the money order, for that matter.

DDave, as he says, Vlad doesn't(well until now) lie. Now that he has tried it, seems like he's not very good at it. I still think that he is a good guy under the influence of a poor choice of tutors.

Carlos

Thank you Melinama. We could never do this without you.

Alas! The Alfred Hitchcock balsa! I held my breath when Aura pointedly passed her purse around the room and went out leaving it with strange strangers. But that was the set-up to her leaving it unattended so her mommie would search it much much later! I love this show. And I wonder if it means anything that Barb-the-wow dresser CHECKS out her lipstick shade?!

Babs was just checking the color of the lipstick, thinking of swiping it across her own face

What woman throws a lipstick on the table w/o putting the cover back on?
Besides Babs that is.

Thanks, Melinama.

I'm in agreement with Dona Gringuita. Camilo makes me want to hurl everytime he comes on the screen. This man is slimy and disgusting.

Barbara/Rebeca gets no sympathy from me. The old hide the baby trick doesn't do it for me. The tears must have been for herself since she's just a cold-blooded murderer.

Great recap, Melinama. Yes, you did get some excitement. I especially liked when Cigarman got mad about the handkerchief.

Anibal was supposedly stealing Pris's money. And doesn't Anibal know that Pris wanted Vlad to be hired? Okay, then the folders that Anibal gave Vlad to take home can't have anything in them to put Anibal in a bad light, or he'd be an idiot (I know, he is an idiot, but not in the stupid way).

For that matter, why does Pris even care who Vlad's contact is?

I really wish Aurora were a little more mistrustful. It's painful when Cad toys with her.

Well, that's the first time I've ever seen Babs truly rattled, so that was neat.

I too was bemused by the lipstick business. But Babs is so paranoid, I thought maybe she was checking to see if something was hidden inside, like drugs or a microphone.

When Dominga said she'd bury Aurora in mud I think it was just a figure of speech, that she'd weight her down so she can't get away again.

It's quite possible that Gardenia could "lose" Fernanda's letters, but if so, it won't really accomplish anything or make it look as though Fernanda lied about writing them. For all Ed knows, maybe his mother destroyed them as soon as she got them.

Hombre, I would care very much who Vlad's contact is. I'd definitely want to know how this almost-stranger happens to know so much about my personal finances. (I could not BELIEVE he pinned it on Florecita!)

Barb was crying without water but I felt it was sincere crying exactly because it was different from her usual display for the Elizades. Excellent acting I felt.

As far as Aurora believing in Cad's faking lost unloved boy, I'm hoping she turns psychotic killer. (Yeah, I know that's bad but it's fiction, no?)

Thanks, Melinama, great recap! I loved the reference to "Bad Love Bar" - that was what we all named the bar in FELS!

I also LOL'd at "A whore shows them into Jairo's office." So matter of fact! LOL

Who wants to bet that Gardenia takes Fernanda's letter out of the box before she gives the box to Fr/Ed???

Great recap Melinama, thank you.

I especially loved your comment on the phone conversation between Fr/Ed and Fer. "She gets all hot and flustered when he turns up the sexy" Yowza! This is my first Colunga TN and that little 2 minute conversation made me realize what all the Colunga fans are talking about. I bet the phone lines in that little town were smokin! I am really looking forward to their next meeting and Fr/Ed's change of clothes.

Bella

So if Fr/Ed gets the letters, won't all of his to Fernanda be in there as well? Will he somehow get them to her? Maybe have Marg say I found these when I was cleaning out Soles place?

I'm waiting for Esteve to run interference on Gardenia so she realizes its just a crush end goes for Steve instead.

I think Barbara is an interesting character as she is, perfectly portrayed by Lucero. But adding real maternal feelings would give her even more dimension. I remember way, way back when Priscila was first talking about having a baby, she was needling Barbara, saying Barbara did not have maternal feelings and wouldn't understand. For just a fleeting moment Barbara looked pained or wistful. I thought it was a bit of foreshadowing on the part of the writers.

The women at the mud wrestling cantina are probably exotic dancers, but not necessarily anything worse than that, at least not all of them.

Thanks, Melinama. You have a unique way of telling a tale. What did you think of the split screen showing the cosmic connection of Fr'ed and Fern ? ..He stands; she stands. He sits; she sits. What is it with Cad always lurking in the trees and ferns ? Creepy Peeping Cad. This guy needs a hobby other than stalking young girls. I hope that he doesn't succeed in his obvious desire to steal another girl from Santi. I think that he is hoping to deflower his hermano's little flower before Santi has the chance. Error does not have much screentime, and Dam hasn't been on much either . Maybe they're on vacation. Gardenia is certainly wearing her heart on her puffy little sleeve as she carries her great big flaming torch for Eduardoooo...but then , who wouldn't. Even that striped sweater can not mask FC's super deliciousness. I enjoy the look of disdain he cast on the brazen remara as she propositioned him with a wink and a shoulder wiggle. Lucero is not winning any crying prizes, and anyone knows you do not mess with another mujer's cosmetics...big no-no.

Many thanks Melinama for such an interesting recap. I'm ready for some love scenes between Nanda and Ed, even though I know that true to novela plots, they'll be on and off lovers until the end of the show. Barb told cigarman that she thought he'd gotten rid of all traces of Rebecca S. Yet she maintains a bank account in the name (recall that's where she told Ed to send the $$). Make that 2 of us that don't understand why Eddie is sending Denia to retrieve the letters, knowing that the bad guys are still loose. I wish he'd put more of his time and NRG into playing lover boy and less into playing Sherlock Holmes. I was initially moved by Babs show of emotion and initially thought that she was redemable. But I keep forgetting that she is a murderer who doesn't care about destroying others if it means she won't have to suffer the consequences of whatever wrong that cigarman is holding over her head. We interpreted those tears as motherly love. But the hiena just might have been thinking "oh heck, another person I have to get rid of".

Soledad carefully kept Ed's letters to Nanda in one shoebox and Nanda's letter's to Ed in another. Gardenis will probably only bring Ed the box with his letters in it. She is not going to give up her crush ...I can't blame her. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

Oh, about the letters, I forgot to mention that my bet is that the letters will get intercepted by the bad guys. But even if you guys who believe that Denia will remove Nanda's letters are right, it still seems that we agree that there is going to be something to drag out their deliverance to Eddie.

Variopinta, I thought Babs looking at the lipstick was strange, but when I read your comment about throwing it down on the table w/o the cover--I had to go back and check that you were right! Amazing, but then I guess Babs doesn't have to wash the tablecloth.
I thought the Gardenia-Fr/Ed talk was sweet too, but I'm sure it went it one ear and out the other. I'll bet Gardenia feels if she just tries hard enough and waits, she will win Fr/Ed over. But at least Fr/Ed has been honest with her and warned her; that's good. I wish he would be as clear with Erica. He did try a little before a while back, but that's before Esteve started meddling and playing with Erica's feelings.
I thought the phone scene of Fr/Ed tuning on the sexy was great. The scene was set up like a lot of Doris Day-Rock Hudson movies. And, as long as Fr/Ed has the sweater on, I'm getting used to it and think he looks good--especially with those tight black jeans.
Thanks so much for the great recap Melinama. Barbara

I like that Barb has two different crying sounds - her fake one which she has perfected to an art (practice makes perfect), and her genuine crying which sounds rusty from lack of use. I think that one sounds like a cat sneeze.

I see we're collecting some new visitors here on MEPS - wonderful! May I humbly request that you name yourself something? It doesn't have to be your real name - it can be Picklenose or Chernashevski, for all I care. It's just, as get wrapped up in discussions, it's easier to direct a response to "Picklenose" than to "Anon 1:42." And you don't need to even fill in the name box, either. Just type your name in the body of your post, like this.

Poor Gardenia. Such a sweet and sad scene that really tugged at my heartstrings. I was 10, he was 11. He showered me with hand-picked bouquets and jewelry from his sister's room. Promised he would marry me. Then SHE moved into the neighborhood. Two weeks later he said I seemed more like a little sister. Ouch! Forty years, a super husband, 2 great kids, still remember the sting. Pobrecita. I hope Esteve swoops in to comfort.
Marianne

I thought that Babs' dry crying was interesting, too. The real emotions are portrayed with dry eyes; the emotions for others' benefit are a waterfall. At least we know that she does have the capcity for feeling, and also how to discern when she is in Rebeca mode, and when she is Hiena mode CArlos- absolutely agreed that Vlad is not a bad guy, but not too long on the gray matter, and bad in chosing his best buddy. I have a feeling that that is going to change- the Vlad/Damian partnership, as soon as Vlad sees a bit more. As someone else said, Vlad was hired by Any?balls, knowing that Prissy had chosen him- right? An odd arrangemnet, are we to suppose that Any? has not cooked the books that he supplied to Vlad?

I would trust that Gardenia would not read any of the Nanda/Eddie letters, much less keep them from Eddie and Nanda for that matter. I believe that her principles are too strong for that. She is after all a trusted employee as well as childhood friend of both. Look how shaken she was to almost divulge Eddie's secret at the point of a gun. She may be a little bit ditzy and maybe scatterbrained, but she is loyal and reliable. (And cute as a button.)

Carlos

Dona Gringuita has a question for Melinama or whoever. OK, I know I'm living in the future here, but is Caray, Caray going to have recaps on En El Nombre del Amor which Univsion is now hyping everywhere? I assume that it's the next TN after MEPS in the same time slot, verdad?

The writers have been so good about show something and then actually having it happen (opening the box, breaking the chess piece, the passport) that I am hopeful the letters will come to light quickly. They still seem to be able to keep the story going even when a big piece of info gets let out.

Hi Gringuita,
Well, we sort of plan to keep recapping all three of the evening Univision shows, whatever they may be, as long as there are recappers volunteering to do it!

Marrianne, frequently I kid around a bit and may not always have the most serious take on things, but I was genuinely touched by you bittersweet memory. I suspect we all have our little wounds that throb from time to time.

Carlos

Thank you for the recap, melinama. I haven't had a chance to watch my recording of this episodio, dont'know if I ever will.

Wow, we all guessed right re: Aurora! ("I thought she died at birth, blah blah").

I wonder if Babs was some sort of pathetic street slut or thief who got pregnant and in trouble (not necessarily in that order), perhaps for killing her parents, maybe AB bailed her out and she's been paying for it ever since.

AAawwww.... looks like I missed a Brady Bunch split screen scene with Fer/FrEd. Now I'll have to find time to watch. ;-)

Hey Doña G: I don't think either Nombre del Amor or the other one with Sebastian Rulli (something about "gancho"?) is replacing MEPS - MEPS still has a ways to go (we're not even halfway through yet - we're months behind Mexico).

One of those new telenovelas (not sure which, and Univision won't tell us until very shortly before it begins) is probably replacing Tontas, which is almost done.

Since they're advertising two new shows (that I know of), something else must be ending soon too. I don't know the status of Cuidado, but there are two or three more shows on in the afternoon - maybe it's replacing one of those.

Cuidado is in its ultimas semanas also.

Dominga is becoming more and more of a hoot. When she's speaking on the phone she holds it out and looks at it as though it were a snake about to bite her. Hmm, when you think about it...

Carlos

Melinama, thanks for the expert recap in your trademark style.
I think Vlad’s gordita nickname for Pris may be because he’s so enthralled with the vision of her being “great with child.” His child.
Loved the description of Cad: “He puts his sunglasses up and then down and then up again to see which way results in a more penetrating perspective.” Hated his begging for sympathy with his pity pot story—I had to get a towel to wipe off the slime that leaked all over the tv screen.
So, why do we care about young dr. caring about Martina? ‘Cuz she’s had a hard life and deserves a break, especially is said break is a young, handsome doctorcito.
Thanks for yesterday’s continuing grammar discussion. Paula, thanks for the web page. I plan to pursue that, as I loved diagramming sentences.
La Paloma

Carlos- de todo acuerdo on Denia not reading/messing with the letters, and for the reasons that you mentioned. I do have a feeling that they won't be delivered as soon as they should, something is going to happen, and I hope that Denia doesn't get hurt. I'm not sure that I would chose a button to compare her cuteness to...

Carlos, I agree about Dominga. A total hoot. I'd love for her to show up at the hacienda--just another lovely well-mannered visitor. Remember her "Sunday best" dress from the earlier wedding attempt!
La Paloma

Ah, I thought maybe it was Juro that was ending. So they're introducing two new shows for primetime within weeks of each other? Wow, for some reason that seems scary.

I'm always tempted to start watching a new one, but it really is difficult for me to follow two shows, especially now that I can't tape them. I watch too much crap on TV already. :)

Here's what I predict for the upcoming Uni novelas. Pardon me while I butcher the names. I'm too lazy to look them up, so I'll just guess.

Tontas ends in a month. It will probably be replaced by Golpa a Corazon, a very 7:00 kind of novela.

Cuidado is in Ultimas Semanas. If they are previewing Nombre del Amor, that will probably follow Cuidado.

And apparantly Sortilegio will follow MEPS in Mexico, so it's a safe bet that it will follow it here, too.

This is pretty funny. The great majority of the females posting about this think Fr/Ed made a mistake sending Gardenia for Soledad's belongings. And that, if the letters are obvious (which I remember their being so on the cart loaded by Margarita), Gardenia would likely withhold Fernanda's letters. The reason is her obsession with her childhood love for Eduardo. She's just not ready to throw in the towel.

But ALL the guys think she's gonna do the right thing! If that actress ever commits a crime, she just needs to get an all-male jury!

Hombre de Misterio,
Pris threatened Anibal with exposing the lurking bankruptcy of Grupo Lactos to her families co. Prolasa, if Anibal did not hire Vladimir, so he could keep an eye on her investments. Anibal is planning to set Vladimir up for a fall.

Melissa muchas letters exchanged between Fernanda & Eduardo that Soledad never forwarded to either of them. All of them kept in boxes in Soledads house, now in Gardenia's room.

I didn't see that anyone answered my question about the fact that Jacinto was supposed to be fired but just installed to safe. I never saw where they straightened that out. Gardenia, Margarita, & Fernanda all thought he was fired for letting Camilo into Fr/Ed's houise.

I do remember Fr/Ed saying that they had to watch out for Gardenia. Maybe if Gardenia goes to get Soledad's stuff, Jacinto will go with her, but not much protection against Jairo's ever present gun.

Gardenia, pain in the cula that she is, always seems to do the right thing, so I agree with the guys on this one.

Novelera, that is really funny. Do we seem that shallow? Or maybe the ladies here that cynical?

Julie, I feel your pain. I'd like to keep it down to one TN at a time, but then the next comes along and I like the actors and am only going to watch the first couple of episodes and, well you know. I was already exceeding my limit with Tontas, then MEPS, and then along came Betty la Fea and I just how to see some of that. Maybe with Tontas winding down I can exercise a little self-discipline. Sure and maybe Babs will be named mother of the year.

I agree with Julie. You guys are blinded by Gardenia's "charms". Women do strange things when they're hurt and jealous. Those letters won't see the light of day very soon.

Last night my husband asked me if I could choose one woman on the show to look like between Babs, Fernanda, or Gardenia, which would it be. I was like, "DUH!!!!! Gardenia!!!!" He followed that with, "OK, I'll be Colunga!" I just had to laugh! We're so silly!

Carlos and Marianne~~~I am there with you concerning ''the little wounds that throb from time to time.'' Time somehow dims but never completely erases the memory of our first puppy love....wildflowers, wild strawberries, wild youth............ Where was I ? Back in the day ,there was a love triangle playing out at ye old hacienda [even if Ed and Fern were unaware of it.] . If Gardenia had found that heart carved in the post in the barn, she would have added her initials. She still thinks Ed hung the moon , so I don't think she is going to stop pining for him any time soon, and she's not going to want his fire for Fern fueled [say that 5 times fast] by supplying him with her gooey puppylove letters. In the words of that old hymn to unrequited love ''I want you to want me...I need you to need me...'' Gardenia WANTS Ed . She looks to me like a woman on a mission , and the mission is Eduardooooo. Gardenia is not taking ''Oh Noes'' as an answer. JMHO

Marianne, what a bittersweet story. Thank you for sharing it with us. I'm sure it gives you a special compassion for Gardenia.

Well, I don't know whether Gardenia would take the letters or not. I don't think it will change the way Ed feels one way or the other. If he never sees the letters, he can still assume that they were sent and that his mom threw them away. But if he does see the letters I think he'll realize how much Fernanda loved him, and he will HURT.

But either way, whether he sees the letters or not, it doesn't address the real problem, namely that Fernanda has said that she'd hate Eduardo if she found out that he was only pretending to be dead.

Maybe Gardenia will take the letters, read them, feel guilty, and then find herself in some kind of moral dilemma.

Fernanda's already having subconscious second thoughts about not wanting anything to do with Franco Santoro except for business. I'll bet she finds out that Franco is Eduardo and that Margarita or Jacinto give her the letters to show her how Eduardo really feels about her - she'll melt and forgive him.

Vario- yes, Eddy did say something about protecting Gardenia, but that must have been all of two episodes ago. as we all know, often things said do not translate into things done. Another case on this same theme. Jacinto's firing- then he is installing the safe, just shows up at the cantina (what was that all about?). It would have been easy to "rehire" him as soon as word got around, and would have taken just about as much screen time as Babs checking Rory's lipstick color...

I never did really understand about Jacinto's "firing." I guess the idea is that he's officially "fired" as Franco's groomsman and thus can't be used (by Camilo or others) to gain unauthorized entry to the house; but on the other hand he still visits often just like he did before he was "hired."

Camilo is apparently totally unaware that Franco and Jacinto were ever friendly to begin with, so he doesn't realize what a joke this whole thing was (and that the joke was on him).

Carlos, what a beautiful way to put it: "little wounds that throb from time to time" I'm constantly amazed at the writing styles on this site. Everyone is so clever, with so many different styles that you can often identify the author without seeing the name.
I agree with Melissa that a hurt & jealous woman will do things completely out of character, so it will be fun to see what Gardenia does with the letters. I just hope she doesn't get hurt in the process. I'm sure, though, that she doesn't have an evil bone in her body, so we will be quick to forgive her. Marianne

Thanks for the really nice recap. Your ability to tell the entire episode in such a neat little nutshell never ceases to amaze me. I agree with the guys that Gardenia would give the letters to Eddie, if it were not for the fact that something unforseen is going to prevent them going directly from Gardenia to Eddie. They have to build up a little excitement first. This has been mentioned before but Gordita is an enduring name in Spanish and not insulting at all.
Ever so often a request is made for everyone to use a name instead of signing in as Anon. I fail to see the difference. In fact, if reference is made to let's say Anon 3:10, you can go directly to the comment if you care to. On the other hand, if someone says "nitpicker I don't agree with your comment", you have to look all over the board to find the comment. I went to AA meetings for years and the rule was no cross talk. In otherwords, your gave your comment/opinion without judging someone elses opinion. Of course we all like to read that someone agrees with our opinion. But it feels not so good when the comeback comment is negative. You don't take it as personal when it's addressed to Anon. I do a lot of lurking but sometimes when I sign in I use a pet name. When I think my comment is going to generate negativity I use Anon (like now).

The recap mentions the "lady of the evening" that met Franco at the cantina.

A responder asserted that the girls there probably didn't go that far.

This lady is Martina's BFF (best friend forever) and did, indeed, spend the night with the guy that Martina bashed over the head when she took off with Lili.

So, my understanding is that she is, indeed, a "lady of the evening", while it has been implied that her BFF, Martina, is as pure as rain.

Anyhow, that is my understanding.

It now appears that Aurora does have someone who can give her away - BABS!!

The Silverfox.

re the Franco / Jacinto situation - I think Franco fired Jacinto as groomsman, but kept him on as BFF (best friend forever) and as his great pal and sidekick.

My conjecture on why he fired Jacinto was for a couple of reasons. First, it would remove any implication that Jacinto let him in on purpose. Second, it would make it look like Franco was really upset that Camilo got into the house to others - particularly the Elizalde family - even though he had actually set it up.

Not only is that one employee a "lady of the evening," but Jairo had been pressuring Martina to accept those kinds of assignments as well. And when Manzanares rented a room there, I'm pretty sure Jairo hinted to him that such "amenities" were available. So at least some of his "wrestlers" are, er, multi-taskers.

Hi everybody. Just checking in. I've been on vacation (at home) I haven't had time to read recaps or comments yet to see what I've missed. How many are sick of that stupid sweater?! Thanks recappers in advance. I'll check back tomorrow.

Melissa, I love your recaps. I especially appreciate the warm sensitive and understanding wayin which you treated Gardenia's moral and ethical lapse. I think we all recognize that she is suffering from PTSD because of her recent ordeal. Is she perhaps another potential patient for our good Dr.? I guess it's true what some folks say, "these days it's hard to find good help."
