Gancho Tuesday July 21, '09 Bare Bones II

I'll skip the rehash and go right to the new stuff. Mauricio has found Moni and Paula in the coffee room and is grilling them about why Beto (whom he thinks if Moni's brother and Paula's boyfriend) came and wanted to punch him out. The girls explain that he thought Maury was the mysterious Zorro at the party who took advantage (pasar de listo) of Moni and kissed her. Mauricio denies all that but does say that this is a serious place of work (really!?) and he can't have guys showing up and causing a ruckus anytime they feel like it.

Sleazy lawer is meeting with Jeronimo and Constanza. They're berating her for bringing back Dany too soon and derailing the custody dispute but Oscar concludes that while they've lost a battle, they haven't lost the war. We're going to win, he assures them. After he leaves, Jernonimo tries to get a little leverage with Connie. You're with the wrong Sermeño, he argues. You're not getting any closer to Mauricio but I'm available. She tells him to back off.

Aldo's getting love advice from Estrella, who probably has a lot of experience in this area. She tells him to have confidence. He's such a bonbon that all he has to do is grab a gal and kiss her and she'll fall into his arms. This strategy fails miserably with Katia. She's telling him all about her romance and exulting that he's such a good friend and she can confide in him when he plants a big one on her and the s... hits the fan. When Constanza learns about it, she overreacts (as usual) and calls Mauricio at work to complain that Aldo was trying to sexually abuse her sister.

But first, Constanza, whose main hobby appears to be shopping, is on the work site of her new boutique, with Ximena by her side, vowing to help her in any way she can. But first she wants to drag Connie off to the gym so she can see her gorgeous luchador Consteño. And while they're at it they can work out and take care of their cellulite. The visit doesn't go well. Connie thinks the place smells like a wet dog, and though Xime is thrilled when Costeño throws her around, Connie is not. Beto rescues Connie but wants to press his advantage by pointing out the fire there is between them....they're hopelessly drawn to each other, doesn't she think? She doesn't.

A romantic interlude. One of many teases during this episode. Mauricio and Moni, in the coffee room, are discussing the stolen Zorro kisses. He turns out the light and their lips almost touch but then Gabriela storms in. Someone pointed out today that our Gaby never knocks, just interrupts. Anyway, after our would be lovers guiltily scoot out, Gaby notices the incredible heat in the room. Clearly these two are meant to be.

There's a later scene where we learn that Oscar stood Gaby up last night and he's trying to repair the damage with a lot of phony excuses. Gabi is unimpressed until she notice Salvador listening in, and then she becomes much more interested in the sleazy guy.

Ximene's giving Constanza a life skills lecture. You need to be on an antidepressant. You're bitter. How long as it been since....you know? Clearly you've been on a love diet. We need to get you fixed up. Uh oh. This doesn't bode well. Xime, no fool, also points out that Connie has really had it in for the kids and if she truly wants to get Mauricio back she'd better ramp up the sweetness.

Meanwhile, back at the office, Beto's calling to ask for money (what's new) and Moni's quitting her job for the umpteenth time (also what's new).

After the ads, Connie wastes no time in putting the sweetness strategy to work. She asks forgiveness of Aldo for her overreaction, vows to start over and gives him a kiss (which he wipes off as soon as she leaves).

Ricardo shows up at the office and asks Paula to go out that evening, even though he still seems to have a yen for Estrella. There's some double entendres about getting him out of his chauffeur's uniform and her being the way God brought her into the world (nude) and they decide he's stopping by for her at 9 pm.

Estrella, meanwhile, is spending some more time with Aldo, commiserating about his lack of success with Katia. She's clearly got some regrets about letting that one special guy get away. Don't know if she's thinking of Ricardo or not.

Now a little romantic montage complete with music. Monita and Mauricio in the rain, in the cabin and lips meeting in the romantic Zorro kiss. But when Mauricio calls Moni on the cellphone, she doesn't answer.

Sweetness strategy part II. Connie's going to cook dinner. Evidently the sweetness doesn't include Teresa because she orders her around in her usual rude way...peel me 3 kilos of potatoes! and puts together a chicken dish with exotic spices that nobody wants to eat. The kids all request quesadillas.

Wow...Xime's romance with Costeño is already history. In spite of the chemistry between them, he doesn't know Belinda, her favorite singer. Clearly the relationship is doomed.

An odd scene with a furtive looking guy, skulking around the neighborhood and opening up a briefcase of money. We find out later, he's an old beau (husband?) of Nieves. There's a funny interlude where she comes to the door with a big roller in her hair, sees him, takes out the roller and comes back all seductive. Clearly these two have a history and he may even be Beto's father.

The chicken dinner has ended in tears, with Constanza tromping off bawling that nothing she ever does turns out right. Mauricio assures her that he cares for her. She replies that if he really cared, he wouldn't be confused about their relationship. They used to be so good together. Kisses begin and the inevitable occurs. They end up in bed together. And even though he's imagining making love to Monita, it's Constanza to whom it says, That was the best ever. I love you. And of course she replies that she loves him too.

Previews:
Nieves is trying to explain to Aldo that Estrella is of "the world's oldest profession" You mean "an actress"? he asks.
Mauricio tries to persuade Moni to come back to work. I need you, is his argument.
However, when she does come back to work, Connie informs her that she and Mauricio are a couple again.
A furious Beto confronts his mom about her shenigans with this new man. Is this our son? asks mystery man.

No vocabulary or dichos tonight. I'm running a fever and feel about as bad as I can ever remember feeling. But this will give you a springboard for discussion tommorow.

I hope you feel better Judy. Again this was a great recap especially when you are not feeling well and you posted so quickly.

I loved Ivan's expressions as Connie was trying to suck up to Aldo. He also fell over at the end of the conversation. Then when Connie went back to Xime and told her Aldo believed her, I think Xime said are you sure? Ximena is great.

I'm really disappointed with Mau. You know you don't love Connie yet you sleep with her. It's astonishing how in novela's the galan can still have sex with someone other than the protagonista but it does not work that way for the women.

Judy, I am totally impressed. This recap is perfect in every detail. Your humoe still manages to come through even when you're sick and feverish. "The visit didn't go well." Indeed. I'm sending you some cyber-penicillin. Drink a toddy (or perhaps herbal tea) and go to bed. Carlos

Hi Judy, if I remember correctly you were having the implant on the July 23rd? I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling well and wondered if you had had the implant early and this was the result?
Best of luck to you and I hope you are feeling better very soon!

Carrie L.

Judy, for someone who feels ill you did a great job and two days on a roll.. wow!you are awesome.Hope you fell better soon. Thank you for all you do. About our Mau and Moni, they always waste so much time just talking, hook up already. Xime for all her craziness seems to have a pretty good idea of what is going on. we can't accuse Mau of that.Poor Aldo he keeps looking for love in all the wrong places. Mau better wake up and pay some attention to him. Till tomorrow my friends.

Hi Judy, you didn't miss a beat amiga. Nicely done. You just can't help giving it your all, can you? Even when you aren't feeling well.

Shame shame shame on Mauricio, for boinking Monstranza, pretending it was Moni, and then acting surprised when he opened his eyes and saw Monsti in his bed. Bah!

Judy you are fab amiga!!! I can't believe you pulled this out of your.... well anyway, lovely job Chica.

OK, I have just spent the last hour and a half trying to figure out the song that plays during Moni's sad flashback scene. It is an amazing song. Turns out I'm not the only one, the net is rife with folks trying to figure out the same thing. There was soooo much conjecture and wrong information it sure confused things. But, I finally figured it out and am content that the info finally makes sense. I thought I'd share because it was such an interesting path for me. Turns out our Rolu composed it with his girlfriend who sings it and she is none other than our hot sexy abogada in Tontas. Now, how's that for an odd connection!!

I'd seen Rolu around before and always figured him for a pretty boy, but never realized he's quite an accomplished composer, I have much more respect for him now, and who knew that sexy abogadas can sing, and well too!!! Je je!!!

Man these novela intwinations never cease to amaze me...love the song and can't wait until they put out a disc!!

Judy, you went above and beyond yet again despite your being so ill. Thank you for persevering and providing us with yet another outstanding recap. A perfect compliment to another fun episode.

Karen, very discouraging that Mau continues to be with Connie yet is consumed with Moni. "It's astonishing how in novela's the galan can still have sex with someone other than the protagonista but it does not work that way for the women." Phrased perfectly and oh so true.

As Sylvia noted, it was even worse as he fantasized Connie was Moni. Blech.

Hanna, "Xime for all her craziness seems to have a pretty good idea of what is going on." I think so too - although selective as to when, she completely comprehends when she chooses to. As Judy pointed out, she was spot on with her assessment that Connie better treat the children better to have a chance with Mau.

Loved how Beto dragged, oh so ungently Connie from the ring. Loved the entire sequence and as Judy noted, there was some heat between Beto and Connie (heaven knows why).

Connie's biggest fault is that she is totally devoid of humor. If she had laughed with the kids and Mau about the awful dinner, she could have somewhat redeemed herself. Although, her crying worked and her self imposed pity party lured Mau in once again.

Judy, I hope tomorrow isn't too terrible. So sorry you are going through this. I'm off tomorrow but you'll be in my thoughts.

Judy, I so hope that you are feeling better this morning. Thanks again for such a detailed recap even while feeling so miserable.

Ximena continues to steal the show. Not only are her gestures and body language great, the writers give her some of the best lines which she always gets the most out of. She reminds me of Maynard Krebs in Dobie Gillis, and Cosmo Kramer in Seinfeld. Improbable but absolutely believable. After her unusually wise advice to Connie about coping with the kids, she wishes Connie,

"Good luck with the puppies(cachorros), wolfie(loba)."

"Loba?", questions Connie, puzzled.

"Instead of calling you bitch(perra) which suits you better,"she replies.

Who doesn't love that girl?

Carlos

Carlos: Maynard G. Krebs and Kramer? I'm still laughing! I must remember to push the "mute" button the next time I read your posts.

Thanks for sharing the Ximena conversation tidbit.

I echo Diana, thanks for the translation Carlos. I only gets bits and pieces so its great to get confirmation that Ximena is "spot on" when she chooses to be. Love her.

Great recap, Judy, again, much more than "bare bones", and I hope you feel better.

That Oscar is sleazy, to be sure, but he has such a mischievous twinkle to his expression, along with a deep voice. I can see why Gabi keeps falling for him. In contrast, Jeromino doesn't seem appealing at all, in his overtures to Connie.

It was funny watching Aldo and Estrella. He told her she was pretty, and she was lapping it up. It almost looked as if he was going to try out that kissing strategy with her.

This time, Xime's "I'll tell you three things" actually made sense. She told Connie she had 1) kissed Rolu 2) taken Dany shopping w/o permission and 3) overreacted to Aldo's kiss of Katia. How was this going to win back Mau? She then wisely suggested the sweetness strategy, although it's doubtful Connie can keep this up for long.

Another of Ximena's cutisms, when bemoaning to Connie of her split with Costeño because he didn't know about Belinda, as well as their great chemistry he has devilish muscles (musculos infernales)and a permanent tan(bronceado permanente).

Carlos

Kris, nice sleuthing on the song amiga! I also liked it very much but gave it nary a thought after the scene ended. I'm impressed you were able to find out all you did. I wonder if we'll get to hear it again? Hope so!
