The Pear Robe Project

The sexy, interesting, and sometimes just bizarre wardrobe of our TN characters, particularly our heroines, provides an endless source of conversation on this blog. As does the re-use of props and clothing in multiple TNs. But never has a recycled TN clothing item been more used, debated, and immortalized than THE PEAR ROBE.

You know the robe I’m talking about. It’s legendary! Kind of like Fafy Cuenca! White terry cloth. LARGE black and green pears all over. It has been donned by an assortment of TN ladies—heroines and villainesses alike. I decided to hunt down this often sighted, but never photographed (at least not on this blog) clothing item, and capture its image. Here is the result.

Perfect Wedding Day Attire- En Nombre del AmorBefore the ill-fated nuptials between bad girl Romina and her best friend Paloma’s one-true-love Emiliano, Romina donned The Pear Robe, and her bridal tiara. She was positively glowing from her victory in fooling Emiliano into believing that the baby she was carrying was his, and not that hunky bad boy German’s. Not even the shock of finding out she was bleeding, and likely miscarrying, was going to keep her from walking down that isle.

Romina gets her tiara on just right, but then gets a nasty surprise when she sits on the porcelain throne.

The Look of Innocence- Llena de Amor
Kristel has just been rolling around in bed with her lout of a boyfriend Mauricio (aka Rapey Snake). Unfortunately, the maid tattled on her to Mama Fedra who has called on henchman Bernardo to kick the locked door down. Kristel may be a fresa, but she’s no dummy. She’s thrown Mauricio off her second floor balcony, hopped quickly into the shower to get that wet look, and emerged from her bathroom in her beloved Pear Robe to find out what all the fuss is about. She was just taking a shower, by herself, after all.

Kristel perfects her look of innocent confusion in front of an incredulous Fedra and Bernardo

Anguish and Despair Wear- Hasta Que el Dinero Nos SepareAfter hating him, then fighting her feelings, then falling madly in love with him, Alejandra must give up her Rafael. This leads to endless nights of sorrow and tears like this one.

What could be better to wear when one is in the depths of despair than a comfy robe of pears?

Phantoms, Panic, and Pears- Soy tu DueñaOscar the Not-So-Friendly Ghost has come to visit evil Ivana once again. Maybe he’s mad that she killed him? Or he just might be trying to tell her that that Pear Robe is a major fashion faux pas.

This is the most clothing we ever saw Ivana wear

Random Pear Sightings- Ni Contigo Ni Sin TiI’m not even watching this TN, but I was going along, minding my own business, working from home with the tv on in the background, and of course checking in on CarayCaray and gossiping about The Pear Robe, when what should appear, but THE PEAR ROBE?! This pretty young lady was carrying it nonchalantly, as she blew off this nice young man who seems to really like her. Obviously her taste in bathrobes does not bother him.

Did I conjure up the Pear Robe just thinking about it?

Honorable Mentions
There are rumors that The Pear Robe made an ap-pear-ance in Un Gancho al Corazon and Mañana es Para Siempre (MEPS), two TNs I have seen. I seem to remember it appearing in those too, but can’t remember the exact scene, nor who the un-lucky wearer was. I have also been told it appeared in Juan Querendon, a TN I did not see, on a character named Marley.

I for sure remember this similar robe from MEPS, worn by our heroine Fernanda on her wedding day. Instead of pears, the robe is covered with flowers. Perfect for a sweet heroine filled with doubts about marrying her hot fiancé (Sergio Sendel), when her hot one-true-love (Fernando Colugna) is still out there somewhere. Why is THE PEAR ROBE so popular, while this one has disappeared into the back of Televisa’s wardrobe closet?

Flowers vs. Pears, which do you prefer?

Have you spotted The Pear Robe?

Sun 11/14/10 Club Gancho opens again

Hello Ganchodores. It's been too long since we've gotten together here in Club Gancho, so I thought I'd open the doors and see if anyone drops in to have a drink, chat, and share experiences. It was so good to hear from Kris the other day and though Emilia has been commenting regularly, it has been too long since we've heard from Mikey as well as many other old friends. I haven't heard from Hombre since the Gran Final of Dinero.Soooo... I hope you Ganchodores (and anyone else who wishes) will drop back by and catch us up on what you're up to.

Bonnie Belle and Jack are thriving and the Lovely Linda and I recently celebrated 40 yrs. of wedded bliss. Doesn't time fly? We just returned from Waco where we witnessed the disastrous Baylor defeat at the hands of a bunch of farmers from Texas A&M. The first half was great, but unfortunately, the game lasted for 60 minutes and the Bears entered hibernation for the last 30.

I've been trying to cut back on TN watching but I'm finding it very difficult to do. Though I resisted Eva Luna when Dinero ended, I did add India over on Telefutura at 9:00 pm (CST). It is beautifully crafted and I recommend you take a look if you receive Telefutura. It was produced in Brazil so the original language was Portuguese and it is dubbed in Spanish for the US audience. The actors doing the dubbing speak with extraordinary clarity, for those of us learning by listening it is truly wonderful. The Spanish CCs are virtually perfectly timed and accurate and there is an added plus of English CCs available with CC3. It's gorgeously filmed in both India and Brazil with overlapping plots in both venues with the occasional excursion to Dubai. The plots are familiar with all the typical TN cliches (though no coma or amnesia... yet). The characters are very attractive with lots of walkons by cattle in the Indian segments,

very colorful,

and of course a bit of steamy romance.

Some new vocabulary... anybody know what the heck thik hai, are baba, acha, or namaste mean? Those are said a lot in India and the young women in India seem to pray to Lord Ganesha in much the same way and for the same reasons that our Mexican ladies go to the Virgen de Guadalupe. (the Virgen is prettier but Ganesha is kinda cute).

In any event, if you have the opportunity, give it a look, though be forewarned, I was only going to take a peek, and now...

The featured drink this week has no Mexican or Spanish origins, is not particularly suited to winter climate, but was mentioned sometime back by either Sylvia or Jardinera and I remembered that when I was very young, I really enjoyed them. Not even a manly drink, but very refreshing. I'm talking about a Tom Collins:

add

juice of small lemon or 1/2 large lemon

1 1/2 oz Beefeater Gin

to

ice in tall narrow glass

top off with 7up

stir and garnish with cherry and lemon slice

A sissy drink to be sure, but memory evoking, tart and tasty, and kinda fun. So drink up and see if you remember this couple:

Club Gancho 8/29/10 - What's everyone doing next weekend?

Ahoy Club Gancho! Well, I WAS going to post some pics from my trip to (or back from) Hawaii but our desk top is still down with a hard drive problem and I can't get my pictures! How irritating. Nor has anyone else downloaded so I am pictureless this week. How sad. It's only a delay, I promise.

I noticed that Carlos posted some drinks of the week on past posts. Today I started a batch of Limoncello and I should I have a lovely lemony libation in about two months. My friend Valerie from Italy gave me her family's recipe so it's very authentic. I'll share it with you today:

MANFREDINI FAMILY LIMONCELLO
20 lemons washed
1 liter pure grain alcohol (Everclear)
1/2 kg. white sugar (about 1 lb.) NOTE: I use less, more on that later.
1/2 liter white wine (light wine like Pinot Grigio) or water

Peel zest from lemons and try not to get too much white with the peels. Put peels into a large glass or ceramic crock and cover them with the PGA. Cover and let sit for 40 days in a cool, dark place. After 40 days remove the peels and strain the liquid. Put the wine and the sugar into a saucepan and heat over low flame until the sugar melts. NOTE: I use about half the sugar called for in the recipe because I find 1 lb is too sweet for my taste. Do not boil. When the sugar is dissolved and the wine has cooled add to the strained liquid, cover and store in cool, dark place for 10 more days. Turn and shake periodically during these 10 days. Decant and enjoy.

I usually do a double batch so I can give some away. It's delicious over ice but since it's made with pure grain alcohol it's best not to overdo lest you get a headache. Of course you can purchase Limoncello almost anywhere these days but it's fun to make it.

Hey, what's everyone doing next week for the long weekend? Are you doing something traditional? Something different? Staying home and relaxing or going away?

I do the traditional; this is what we do...For many years a group of friends, those of us who dive, have gone up to the north coast of California (Gualala) for camping, spearfishing and abalone diving. We've been doing it for so many years that now we are the old farts and the kids are diving too! A friend owns some land so we all bring our tents and set up camp. We also set up swings and zip lines for the kids so they can entertain themselves. Everyone goes out on Saturday and gets their limit of abalone (2 per person) and whatever unlucky fishies happens to get in the way. Then we have a big feast and potluck later that day. Abalone has to be sliced and pounded so the big folk do the slicing and the little folk do the pounding. Then we fry it all up and eat like kings. Repeat on Sunday except we add a blackberry picking excursion.

I'd love to hear what everyone else has planned, whether it involves travel or hanging around the house. So what's cookin'???

8/24/10 Schools open and so does Club Gancho

Here in Texas the schools open this week . Each school year has two wonderful days from a students point of view. I think that each student looks forward with great anticipation to the first day of school. Renewing friendships that were put on hold for the summer, seeing who the teachers for that year will be, and for many it will be the only day that they are not behind in their school work. I t also is the beginning for many of the yearning for that other greatly anticipated day... the last day of school. Thus it has always been.

The weather here is HOT. Here are two pictures reflecting our summer ambience:Bonnie Belle and Jack enjoying a cool breeze

Bonnie Belle and BFF Cheyenne jockeying for position in front of fan

Sylvia is home from sailing the bounding main. We celebrate her return to us by featuring a drink that she introduced me to some time ago, The Dark and Stormy, a cool and cooling marriage of rum and ginger beer. Sylvia , we do expect you to regale us with stories of your adventures on the high seas. We were able to follow your progress using the satellite tracking map provided by the Pacific Cup website.

I'm sure other Ganchodores have stories to tell and topics to discuss.

Tue 8/17/10 Club Gancho... Even Dogs Don't Deserve This Heat

Welcome to Club Gancho. Sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday. Lots of stuff going on. Schools about to start here in Texas so lots of preschool things: sports physicals, vaccinations, check ups...

This past weekend was challenging. Our well conked out on Sunday, fortunately it was up and running by late Sunday evening... just in time for the AC to die. The AC guy came out yesterday afternoon and officially pronounced it... muerto. Fortunately the storms and rain rescued us from the stifling heat last night. If our luck holds out we should come home to a new AC this afternoon. Hard to remember how we survived before air conditioning.

The feature drink this week is Shiner Bock. Simple, tasty, and thirst busting. Iced Luzianne tea and fresh lemonade are available for those who would prefer a non-alcoholic beverage. As a snack we have today marinated Gulf shrimp with peppers, olives, cauliflower, pearl onions, carrots and probably other veggies. The only oil is a little olive oil in the marinade.

Since you guys haven't complained (yet) about the pet pictures let me share one of my favorites of Bonnie Belle and Jack sharing a lazy moment together as they enjoy the AC (when it was still alive) and contemplate the heat outdoors.

Summer Dreamin'

In the quest for pictures of our Gancho beauties, we return to the archives to retrieve photos of two faves, one young and the other a bit more senior. Credit to Hombre for the pic of our favorite bruja. Enjoy.

Mon. 8/9/10 Club Gancho... More Beauties of un Gancho al Corazón

Welcome Ganchodores. Come on in out of the heat and humidity, take a comfy chair, I'll fix some cool drinks, and then let's share a few minutes together.
This weeks featured beverage is a Black and Tan; attractive and very thirst quenching. Here at Club Gancho we use Guiness (of course) and Dos Equis.

I had a wonderful birthday weekend beginning at noon Friday with the lovelies from my office taking me out for lunch. We had BBQ... great. Saturday night the Lovely Linda took me out to Big Daddy O's (a new seafood restaurant located less than two miles from our home) for oysters and seafood. With the exception of the price of oysters doubling, we are coping in the aftermath of the spill. Sunday, my daughter Andrea came over and prepared her trademark enchiladas, a shrimp and avocado salad, while Linda cooked up jalapeños stuffed with cheese, refried beans, and her corn, onion, and jalapeño relish. I'm dieting this week.

My nurse Kelli's husband took this photo on a weekend trip to West Texas He found it both amusing and a bit frightening. Talk about enhancing the stereotype.

This week we continue to look back on the beauties inhabiting un Gancho. As you all may have guessed, one of our first two beauties (mom and her hembral spawn) is one of my favorite characters ever. Perhaps not the sweetest or even most beautiful, but certainly the most provocative.

Jaqueline... cool elegance

Constanza... be still my heart!

Estrella Falcon...actriz

Regina... racy racer

Angelli Nesma... the genius behind it all

Nieves Ochoa... femme fatale

Isabela... fill in your own caption......

Nice Nurse

Club Gancho... Dog Days of Summer

Welcome back to Club Gancho, Ganchodores. Take a seat and enjoy a little respite from the intense Summer sun as well as the cares of the world. I'll bring you a cool drink and we can chat about whatever you guys wish. This weeks featured drink is sangria (the recipe is a little different from that we used to drink here, but it looks refreshing). If you prefer something else, I'll bet we can scrounge up whatever you wish.

Bonnie Belle had an ultrasound yesterday in followup to an abnormal lab result (don't you just hate it whenever that happens?), but it turned out perfectly normal, so I'm in a celebratory mood. She rather enjoys her trips to the vet (Lord knows what they do with her after we drop her off) and is always happy to go. Even though she seems fine and is very frisky, we were still a bit worried and were very relieved by the results.Bonnie Belle... coolin' off

Last night the CCs on Dinero and STuD were amazingly good. The lady from Channel 45 said she was working on it when she called Friday, but results this quickly or simply por casualidad? I guess we'll soon see.

Thanks to Jack for taking time out of his busy schedule to host last week's Club Gancho. I notice that you guys barely touched the snacks he put out for you. He meant well.

Club Gancho... no shirt, no shoes, no problem... except for you Carlos... put that shirt back on!

¡Hola Ganchodores! my name is Jack Buengato. One of my humanoid pets, the old fat male, Carlos, has asked me to open up Club Gancho for him this week. Now ordinarily it would never occur to me to comply with requests from my livestock, but he and the cute one I call Linda did do a small favor for me recently when I got a little short of breath (I thought it was another hairball). They drove me to the emergency room where it turned out that I had a little flareup of asthma or some such thing. Anyway, the Doc at the ER said that it was a good thing they brought me, so when Carlos asked me to fill in tonight I agreed. Maybe now he'll quit saying that I owe him one. Besides, it's raining here again so my plans to do a little night prowling are shot all to hell. I had my heart set on finding a tasty young rodent to supplement the crap they put out for me each evening but it looks like I'll be waiting a few days until the weather clears. It's a good thing for them that I enjoy having them around or I would have found replacements with some hunting and gathering skills. Anyway, for some reason my bitch, Bonnie Belle seems to adore them and generally they are adequate servants... at least as humans go.

Carlos wanted me to tell you that the feature drink here this week is the Redheaded Mexican... cute. I've taken the liberty to open a couple of cans of Fancy Feast and set out some bowls of Meow Mix (sorry, it's what they bring in for me), and maybe if the weather clears I can bring in a couple of rats for you to snack on. Jeff, Sandy, and Judy, as always there's iced tea (Luzianne of course) and fresh lemonade, as well as hibiscus tea this week.

Here's a couple of pictures to talk about. Ximena and Constanza... sex kittens?

Jerónimo... I smell a rat

Dani... a really cute kitten

Estrella Falcón... actriz

Coni and Aldo... attentive stepmother

Dr. LeFort... formerly Tio Meño

Klunder Bros. Arnaldo and Rolando... brotherly love

What the heck?

Now if you don't mind, I'll just get back to ignoring you. Nothing personal,

it's a cat thing.

Jack
