MEPS Monday July 21, #109

Ok a lot happened today, or at least it felt like it, so I hope my descriptions aren’t too sparse. I just can’t make myself (or find the time to ) translate entire conversations, as I’m sure you’ve noticed.

Obregon walks across the lawn at the hacienda to leave a big flowery cross in honor of Barb dying. Wouldn’t a pitchfork be more appropriate? Barb herself comes out the door. They stop and stare at each other in shock. While Obregon blubbers, Barb tells him that this is his lucky day, he’s going to make some money. And, for good measure, he’s got the leverage, Barb’s fate is in his hands.

Fr/Ed, Fernanda, and Santiago (hereafter referred to as ‘team Fr/Ed’) are driving around when Fr/Ed’s phone rings. It’s Erika, Fr/Ed talks to her while drilling holes in the back of Fernanda’s head with his eyes. Fernanda, in turn, is being super metiche and trying to listen in. Erika invites Fr/Ed over to dinner with her parents, Fr/Ed drops hints that he is going to use the opportunity to formalize things with her family.

On the phone, Esteve tells Loafly (whoever first coined Loafly and/or Loave-ly, you are a genius! So perfect.) about his conversation with Camilo. Esteve is giddy, they have him right where they want him. The plan is finally becoming more clear, they wanted ‘little Camilo’ to get the rest of Camilo in a bind so they had some power over him. Loafly’s next job is to make Camilo feel like he has to ‘rescue’ her. Seems to me like they already did that part, but I guess they mean something bigger and more permanent than a place to crash. She asks Esteve if the Loafly character is the kind of woman he likes. Before he can answer, noticing Gardenia listening in at the door, Esteve says he’ll call her later and hangs up. In the apartment alone after hanging up, Loafly says she’s sure he likes that kind of woman and she is going to transform herself into that kind of woman for real. Finally the Esteve/Venus romance is being set up. And Esteve is going waaaaaay out of his league on this one, good for him. Once she ditched the hoochie look and chewing gum, Loafly is super hot. I understand how Camilo got himself in trouble here.

Adolfina tells team Fr/Ed (who came to the manicomio) that Obregon called her this morning and she assured him that Barb was dead. Fr/Ed says perfecto.

Some really ugly guy, tall with stupid looking glasses, arrives at the gate of the manicomio.
He looks like this guy (Bob Rohrman, Chicago area car dealer)- GAH!
He gives his name to the guard as Borja Treviño. He claims to be researching the place for a relative. Stereotypically fat and stupid guard lets him in.

Team Fr/Ed tells Adolfina that Lily is missing.

Barb takes Obregon to the hacienda chapel and locks them in with a padlock. She turns on him and demands to know where Lily is.

Lily is wandering around still, she says she’s going to find Ciro!

Team Fr/Ed is wondering if the new psychiatrist is in cahoots with Obregon and they took Lily, this all happened right after she showed up.

Treviño comes to the office, Adolfina tells him he’ll have to wait a few minutes, he says he’ll go take a walk while he waits.

Lily arrives at the gate of the manicomio, fat dumb guard lets her in and watches her wander off.

Barb tells Obregon how he supposedly is demanding ransom, Obregon is going to have a heart attack from the whole thing. She says he can call Gonzalo and see how he reacts to know she isn’t lying.

On his little walk, Treviño sees Lily and can’t believe his luck. He checks his photos, yup it’s her.

Adolfina receives a call from the guard (finally) that Lily is here on the premises. Took him long enough. For some reason, everyone DOESN’T immediately run outside.

Lily has another hallucination, Ciro’s window opens and he is there, waving her to come in. Instead of going in, she stands there with that goofy smile on her face and Treviño comes up and grabs her.

Team Fr/Ed is finally done wasting time and decides to go outside.

Treviño puts something over Lily’s mouth to make her pass out, he drags her towards his car.

Barb gives Obregon a cell phone, he calls his own phone with it to verify that it shows up as a blocked number.

Treviño is driving now with Lily in the back seat, he calls Artemio Bravo who tells him to bring Lily to him.

Obregon calls Gonzalo, who freaks out at hearing who it is. Obregon lets him rant for a bit and then hangs up. Barb gives him a ‘see I told you’ look.

Aurora (aw man I was enjoying not having any Aurora story in this episode. This might be the first time I hated a storyline so much that I didn’t want a pretty girl on screen) walks down the street and thinks that she should call Santiago and explain things.

Santiago finds out from dumb fat guard that the last car leaving didn’t have plates, it had a dealer tag still on it, it was Mr. Treviño. Santi’s phone rings, it’s Aurora on the other end but she says nothing and hangs up, even after Santi says “Aurora is that you?” He looks extremely sad after the hangup.

Aurora decides that she just has to leave Santiago behind, good bye forever. Really? Promise? Unless you are going to increase the frequency of the underwear scenes, that is.

Barbara explains how Obregon is going to help with her plan, he really has no choice.

Team Fr/Ed runs around looking for Lily.

Obregon says he showed up at the hacienda for Barb’s funeral, but it appears someone told him the wrong thing. Barb does a HORRIBLE fake evil laugh, it was just awful. She starts writing down instructions for him. He gets really bent out of shape again over the whole thing, but comically. She tells him he’s going to have to call Gonz again and he almost can’t take it. She basically says she’ll kill him if he doesn’t do his part.

I love you! Wait sorry that was just a little note my wife wrote in my notebook when I went to the bathroom. I love you too honey, even though I know you aren’t reading this.

Santiago talks through it, figuring out that Treviño must have taken Lily.

Treviño brings Lily into Bravo’s office. He must be just down the street from the hacienda and manicomio, they are all like a five minute drive apart.

As team Fr/Ed prepares to split up, Fr/Ed says now they have to wait for Obregon to call (they still think he’s behind the whole thing). Fernanda tells Fr/Ed that while Santiago knows about they having Lily, she didn’t tell him the part about the recording and Lily saying Barb killed their mother. She gets a text message on her phone from Damian, who complains that she said she wouldn’t leave him for even an instant and she’s not keeping her promise. As she leaves, Fr/Ed says “Fernanda…….. nothing.” That age old “please beg me to tell you what I claim to not want to tell you” passive/aggressive BS. After she walks away he tells himself that there is no way she was the one who left the letter on his bed.

In the car, Santiago asks Fer what else is going on with her and Fr/Ed, he can tell. She admits there is something, but they don’t get any further.

Esteve tells Jacinto that he wants his opinion on something, starting with – Gardenia is totally in love with Fr/Ed, right?

Some Mexican Tommy Chong is selling magic love potions on the street, Gardenia gets caught up in his bit and wants to buy two. He sells her an array of sprays, lotions, potions, candle, angel card, etc.

Esteve tells Jacinto about the letters from Fernanda and the letter addressed to ‘Eduardo Juarez’, the strange things that have happened lately.

Camilo tells Anibal about the Loafly situation, how Esteve is crazy and he’s mixed up with his niece, now he’s stuck in a tight spot. Anibal is pissed, which is how he wakes up in the morning anyway. He eventually asks if Camilo slept with her, Cam says I wish! Anibal tells the receptionist to find Fr/Ed, he’s going to ask him for help.

Jacinto tells Esteve that Gardenia has always been in love with Fr/Ed and is a bit nuts, so she is perfectly capable of the things Esteve told him about. Just then Erika arrives, when she finds out Fr/Ed isn’t home, she gives Esteve a card to give him. It’s an invitation for tonight, where everything will be formalized. Esteve says, basically, “eh whatever.” Erika asks if he isn’t happy about Erika and Fr/Ed getting married, Esteve just shrugs.

Fernanda comes home, Damian is quite angry with her for leaving. He says lately strange things have been happening around this house. She asks, like what? He says like your romance with Franco Santoro! Super end of show impactada with camera tricks for Fernanda. Whoa.

Tomorrow – Gardenia uses all the love potion/sprays/candles that Mexican Tommy Chong gave her and Damian demands sex from Fernanda.

Good morning everone. Thanks for the recap Ferro. What exactly are they going to do with Lili? I don't think they are going to kill her. Why is Esteve the only smart one in the bunch? If he figures out that Gardenia is behind the letters what exactly is he going to do about it? Set a trap for her maybe?

Hello there, Connie and all the early birds out there. Ferro~~Thanks for your usual great recap. There was quite a lot happening last night. I got a kick out DDenia eagerly buying Love Potion #9, # 10, # 11, # 12 from Mexican Tommy Chong. I'm glad that Esteve finally decided to corner Jacinto about his crazy sis-in-law. Jacinto confirms Esteve's suspicions...Si si, she is crazy , and she is in love ...She's crazy in love. [Shout out to Beyonce.] Team Fr'ed have me completely frustrated. I expected them to sprint outside immediately just in time to thwart Art's goon....but...NO they just took their old sweet time..time enough for the bad guy to cart poor Lili off to Art. I feel sorry for Lili and for the actress portraying her. Lili has been victimized throughout this entire novela. Also, Ciro is not being a good guardian angel. He was supposed to fly out the window and push the evil henchman down the hill and then cause Team Fr'ed to get off their butts and rescue Lili. I am muy disappointed in Ciro. If you can't trust your guardian angel , who can you trust ? I suppose that, as someone suggested, Ciro is , in fact, just Lili's hallucination and not her guardian angel. Now, Erika...How old is she ?...16 ? That's how old I was the last time I stalked someone...calling him...driving over to his house. Seriously, this chick needs a hobby , a parttime job, a library card, volunteer work, a friend other than Fer...something to get her focused on someone /something other than Fr'ed. Finally, Dam demands sex from Fer. Ahhh, great plan...chicks love a demand like that, Dam.

Thanks for the recap, Ferro. I'm running out the door ... and will read more in depth later today.

I think the street hawker, who sold the Love Potion #9 to Gardenia, was played by Sendel. What do y'all think?

If Fer had gotten the marriage annulled after Dam left with the $3 million she wouldn't be having this problem right now. Team Fr/Ed does a lot of running around but they don't really accomplish anything.

When theguy grabbed Lili I was having flashbacks of Feo and his magic potion.

Ferro, thanks for the timely recap - loved the note to your wife.

Team Fr/Ed is starting to look like the Keystone Cops - what a group.

Mexican Tommy Chong selling Love Potions, indeed. Maybe Dam needs to get out and find some for himself, nothing else is working.

rsk

I thought that Mexican Tommy Chong was played by the guy from DA who was Rod's and Meester James's drinking bud..the one who tried to show Abuelo his ancestry research.

Thanks for the recap Ferro. Bad, bad, Ciro. Oh, how could he lead Lili to get captured.
Who knew that Esteve was actually figuring out it was Denia behind the letters. It seemed like Esteve and FrEd were being clueless about her, but I guess not.

JeffMN

I went back and watched it and it is not Dam. I think it is also the guy from Destilando. The guy that went around writing everything down.

Thanks, Chris, great recap. I missed the first half, so I guess all I missed there was the stupid lets-take-our-time-finding-Lili.

BAbs with that silly hyena laugh. Her plan must be for Dr. O to proceed with a ransom w/o proof that he has her, but he's so inept, something will no doubt go wrong.

lili is now in Arty's clutches, and I doubt that she will get the therapy she needs, pobre loquita..., but we will get a real plot twist out of it, no doubt.
The Tommy Chong reminded me of someone else, but I can't put my finger on who it is. It was a funny scene, regardless. I am so glad that Esteve finally determined that our Denia is the one using Eddy's bed as a mailbox. I was losing faith in his inteligence, he's almost redeemed. I wish that Jacinto would have been a better friend, and talked to Eddy about this on his own, just to add some depth to that character.

lotsa fun ahead!

Nice to have a breakfast recap, Ferro. I'm surprised at just how ridiculous our galan is. He's making just about every mistake, I suppose to keep our interest? At least Esteve is thinking for the two of them.

Errika is just annoying. Did anyone notice she gave Esteve a hello kiss, while Cinto didn't even get a wave or handshake. Isn't that classy...
jb

Thank you Ferro. This episode was too much action for me. Too much chaos of misfortune actually. Ciro (Casper never did this stuff) leading the Lili lamb to slaughter. Doesn't he have even a peek into the future -- where is he anyway! Earning wings I'd say Ciro is still on probation.

Fern and Frac romance are becoming an unnecessary distraction. All he's got ta do is ...open his arms. All she's gotta do is...say stop the noise Franco. Don't these two know that at any time now the flash acoss the bottom of the screen will be 'el fin'. Then they could join the fights: Torture Cad, Torture Barb, Torture Dami, torture Dr. O, and exchange Aw-wha-wha for Lili. Oh, and report Cigarman to the police.

Wow, Chris, the guy who grabbed Lili really does look like that car dealer!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought "Tommy Chong" last night! Alas, I doubt that the real Tommy Chong would be caught dead with any of that stuff on his person.

He did look familiar, but I can't tell whether it was that guy from DA (who was also one of the tipsy lawyers from LFMB, right?) or someone else. It's easy to confuse me with disguises. The guy from DA is definitely a plausible guess, though. He's such a clown!

Er, aforementioned "that stuff" being the love potions. The outfit and hair were just right. ;-)

Just watched the part I missed last nite. Obregon is pretty funny, he should do comedy. Tommy Chong is definitely Rod's drinking buddy from DA. Team Eddy is definitely the Kestone Cops...

Ferro, thanks for the fun recap. It looks like this thing may be picking up a little momentum. Poor Dr.O just can't catch a break. Now he's trapped like a little rat in a cage and the cat(Babs)is in there with him. Once again his greed has betrayed him.

Interesting that Gardenia has turned to pharmaceuticals to aid her quest for affection. The last TN that had that twist that I recall was DA. It resulted in a number of entertaining turns, none of which was the one sought. I doubt that DD will have any better luck.

Carlos

Tks Ferro,

Gardenia has the love potions, but just where did she get Eduardo's current picture, I haven't seen any cameras.

Dr. O is priceless, crossing his eyes when Babs pointed her finger in his face. No wonder she laughed like La Hiena.

I hope Gardenia doesn't become increasingly more annoying as time goes on, now that Aurora has had her role reduced. While Gardenia is a step up in the sexy department, all the nagging and fussing can get irritating.

I forgot to include that when Esteve was talking to Jacinto, he asked if there was ever some man in Gardenia's life, I think Esteve is going to try and find her a man to get her off Fr/Ed's trail.

Good luck to Esteve thinking he can find a man that make G forget about FrEd. You would think that Margarita and Jacinto would have already tried that a few times over the years. But maybe that's expecting too much from those two, considering that they always seem terrified to do anything.

Ferro, your recaps are always so fun and they do help me understand the plot which at this point really doesn't make much sense, if it ever did.

There seems to be a lot of coincidences...Dr. O and Barb meeting each other at exactly the right moment at the hacienda but for good comic effect and good timing for Arty's goon who easily captured the lingering Lili at the manicomio. I agree with Connie. The TN's seem to have an excess supply of chloroform and magenta red hair dye.

I was thinking Dr. O should have made a run for it. After all, Barbie was in that long bulky sweater dress but then she probably would have pulled out that gun with the silencer and threatened him, kidnapped him, plugged him and then kicked him down a hill with her high heels. When will they ever find the old man? I, too, loved Dr. O's crossed eyes.

Tommy's Chong's brother is the old drunk guy from D A who was the town historian and always had the writing pad and pen in hand. I think he had a little nip and tuck and some veneers as he looks a tad different.

I also wondered how DDenia wound up with Eddie's picture. Did she pilfer it from Soledads' effects or did Eddie send it to her not knowing she was a potential stalker.

Fr/Ed and Fer's romance has definitely stalled and I'm hoping for something good to happen soon. We need more besos.

GinCA

Thanks, Ferro, for the great recap. I keep being depressed at how much Spanish I miss on my own, but all the more grateful to you and the other amazing recappers for your help.

Susanlynn, yes! 16 seems exactly right. That's how old I was too when I last stalked someone--a high school teacher on whom I had a bigtime crush.

Speaking of crushes, I loved the scene with DD and the love potions. I'm glad to see she's as ditzy as I always thought. I confess I had a hard time with suggestions made in comments to earlier episodios pairing DD with Esteve. Though Esteve obviously appreciates her, um, assets, I doubt he'd ever seriously fall for someone as off the wall as DD.

A moment that made me laugh out loud: Dr. O's crossing his eyes when Barbie pointed her finger at him. Loved it!

Great recap, Chris.

Babs must really be intimidating. I thought that when she had Obregon in that barn and she had the key, why doesn't he overpower her and take the key? But of course a) she actually is physically strong b) she's mentally strong and c) he's mentally and physically weak. Her evil laugh was really cartoonish, but in a way, I like this show the most when it does get cartoonish (don't want it to get a silly as FELS, tho').

Chris: Excellent recap. I'm with rsk in liking the note to your wife.

I kept screaming "hurry up" to the Fr/Ed dream team to get outside before Lili was captured. Alas, they ignored me. As Artemio seems to care about Aurora, let's hope he can find some room in his unused heart to be gentle with Lili. As Susanlynn noted, she's been abused throughout this entire story. I have hopes that we will be able to see the rehabilitated "real" Lili before the end. Her Cyndi Lauper duet with Fernanda remains the highlight of this for me.

Diana in MA

Gardenia's photo of Ed looked like it was taken at Harvard. She probably swiped it from Soledad.

Diana,

"As Artemio seems to care about Aurora, let's hope he can find some room in his unused heart to be gentle with Lili."

How sweetly put. I wonder what his plan is. Really can't be a great deal worse than she's already been through.

Carlos

Love this bog! So nice to know what I've missed. What about hooking up Vladimir with Gardenia? Neither of them are bad people, just nuts. I know Flor has been suggested for Vladimir, but she should get busy teaching Aurora how to have a spine. Be like Flor! (my new motto)

Kel

Erika has now officially surpassed Gardenia as the most annoying character for me.

She's clueless. Fr/Ed has NEVER darkened HER door, but she continues to show up without calling at every hour of the day, relentlessly stalking, giggling like a 16 year old, asking whoever is home at Las Animas where he is. Yikes, someone needs to give her the Spanish edition of "Women Who Love Too Much".

Dam is totally overplaying his hand. Barbwire gave him his marching orders; i.e., seduce his wife once and for all now that she's feeling guilty enough to care for him when he's wounded. So what does he do? Shows his true colors: yelling at her, glaring at her, texting her guilt messages, accusing her of infidelity and demanding sex. Idiot.

Gracias tanto, Ferro!

I think our local station was having issues. The first 10 minutes were frozen on an ad for a local radio station, then the show would randomly freeze or a few seconds here and there once it got started. I really hope that doesn't happen tonight!

Thanks, Ferro for the recap. Kel, I love the idea of Vlad with Gardenia. They each live in their own private Idaho (or D.F., as the case my be) and they could spend the rest of their lives in mutually obsessive co-dependent abandon.

Thanks for the recap Chris. i too thought the note from your wife and yours back to her was sweet.

Dr. O is such a fun character I feel bad Barbie torments him so much. I hope he realizes that Barbie will kill him regardless so he better run if he gets his hands on the dough.

I'm also happy someone in Las Animas is getting wise to DDenia.

Good recap, Ferro.

I took a better look at Esteve when they showed a closeup, I think he is wearing a red wig -- and not a very good one, at that.

I always wondered if any of the protagonists have ever seen these blogs...???

Ann-NYC

I always wonder that too! Cheryl has met the Caray Caray lady and told her about the blog, I always wonder if she ever checked it out.

Thanks, Ferro, for the very complete recap that filled in several dialogue gaps for me. Babs is amazing in her instantaneous transition from impactado shock to new evil plan in recruiting Dr. O. into her nefarious schemes yet again. What a woman! Glad to learn that Esteve isn't as blind to the tricky DDenia as earlier suspected. Still wondering what her final role re: FrEd will be and if she will eventually become an ally to the one true love of FrEd and Fer, as some have suggested. Cute how Venus might be falling for Esteve; she obviously likes her new role as pampered lady of manners and style. This is fun. Wish the two pobrecitas, Lili and Abora, could get a break though. They sure would be easier to watch... hgr

Yes, Cheryl met Mariana Carr [Tia Isabelle from Alborada] at her restaurant . I think Esteve is going to distract Denia from Ed and end up taking her off his hands...er..I mean falling in love with her. Just because DDenia is obsessive, devious, and crazy doesn't mean she won't end up with Fr'ed's best bud. It happens ...cases in point Antonia/Sixto in Amor Real ; Perla /Marcos in Alborada]. These bad chicks who are hopelessly devoted to the galan often get his lawyer/bodyguard/best bud at the end. Also, I must tell you that learning a smattering of Spanish from the telenovelas have finally allowed me to be of assistance to my fellow man. Today, I was in Sears looking at clothing when a young Latino guy who spoke no English asked me something. Luckily , I recognized the word ''bano.'' So I knew he wanted the bathroom. Then , I was able to recognize the words for ''below'' ''there'' and ''here'' and finally told him ''aqui'' and pointed. I felt enpowered. Viva Espanol.

Wow, Kel, Vladimir with Gardenia? I like the idea. His obsessiveness would be a good match for hers. :)

I am hoping that Venus does end up with Estev, too. Those two seem to have a special chemistry.

I don't know who to match Flor up with. The only unattached male I can think of would be that scapegoat at Prolasa, but he's the last guy I'd want to fix her up with!

Agree with Novelera that Erika has surpassed Gardenia as most annoying. Only by a nose, though. And I don't think she has Gardenia's potential to cause as much trouble. But the way she acts around FrEd just makes me cringe!

Does anyone wonder what Esteve does all day at Las Animas?

He spends a lot of time on the computer & you know how that goes. And he keeps thinking of ways to torment Camilo, none of which are enough for that pedazo de mierda.

...and don't forget the show tunes...Esteve tries to remember the lyrics of old Broadway shows.

---and improving his español

Thank you, Ferro. Sorry guys, please let me just do a lower case, but no less heart-felt (or lower down) scream. I'm watching yesterday's tape and Lilliana just got re-kidnapped it seems with the help of Ciro, the perhaps friendly but not too bright ghost. Ok. aaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh! enough of this chicka sufferring, just kill her!!!!

Thank you. I will try to continue to episode and see you guys on the other side.

Khalilah

NO! Khalila! Not death! Nunca! Jamas! JUst keep her safe til she can recover and take care of herslef. She has to see Babs' downfall...

Khalilah, I understand your frustration with Lil, she currently only seems to have the gentle Ciro as a guide and muse. So far his counsel vale un rábano. Ciro, you've gone on to your reward. Stay there. you've earned the rest and apparently need it. Thanks but no thanks. Carlos

I'm somewhere between Kalilah and Carlos and DDave re Lili.

They teased us with a "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" moment with Lili and then (apparently because of the kind shrink who looked like Barbwire to her) she went BSC again.

I've got compassion fatigue where she's concerned. I know she's nuts, but why would she leave that very nice condo and kind Martina to go back to the nuthouse where they abused her for 15 years. Please. And the ghost of Ciro is a pretty dumb device. I know they want her held captive by AB to heighten the tension, but it just annoys me.

I do agree that I don't want her killed.

Ferro, Thanks for a far from sparse and entertaining recap. Do you live near or in Chicago? If so, we are "neighbors".

Carlos, My hopes about Ciro were dashed. You are right. Ciro, if you can't help, then stay dead dude.

Susanlynn and Juanita, You both must have been much more mature than me. I stalked crushes probably until I was about 20. Of course back then we didn't call it stalking.

Kel and Elne, Definitely an interesting thought. Vlad and DDenia. "Mutually obsessive codependent abandon" ITA! I don't think Flor needs a man. I think she could become a top executive at a Fortune 500 company.

Totally trivial, but when Fer was leaving Fr/ED at the manicomio I thought how in the world is she going to walk across those huge rocks in those stilettos? Next scene flashes to her getting into the car with Santil and you could see her hanging onto the side of the car to keep her balance.

Looking forward to tonight's episode. Barbara

Does anyone know how I can get a hold of tonight's (7/21/09 Tuesday) episode. When it aired in my city, there were technical difficulties throughout the whole show. I missed the whole thing. I tried finding it on the internet but couldn't. esmas.com has recaps but they aren't available in the U.S. Any ideas???

I love the idea of Vlad and Gardenia together! I think Esteve and Venus will get together also...his face lit up when he first met her.
I also think poor lily will be safe, at least she wont be able to escape with the hired goons all around.

Steve has to be wearing a wig.
I was wondering ...Esteve has had a new hair style for a month or so,around party time, along with Fernanda's spiky bangs...could it be that as someone mentioned they had to add some episodes to stretch the Novella.Had the actors come it to tape new shows but had new hair styles? Will their hair styles go back to their "old" looks when we get to where the original Novella left off?

Cad need to take Lovely shopping for some new clothes, she cant wear that same red dress and stay locked in his apartment for weeks.
