MEPS – Thursday, July 30, 2009, Franco Lays a Few Cards on the Table, Cap. 117

Please, someone, post this for me.

This recap may be a bit disjointed because I have been interrupted by a five-year old tugging at my elbow every other minute or so. Anyway, here it is.

Obregon, dressed in camo, is still yanking at the rope connected to the boat. Jacinto has “made” him. Obregon doesn’t see anybody and looks like he’s getting agitated.

Bar and Franco continue their conversation about their mysterious real identities. He says he comes with cartas abiertos while she comes with cartas amanadas. I couldn’t find the meaning of this dicho in my dictionary. If you know exactly what it means, please fill in here. I assume it means he’s above-board while she’s holding out. He is not afraid of her and says she can’t prove anything.

He can’t imagine what could happen. She can’t forget. If she would have seen him she could not think it. She likes how he plays. She says she saw him and Fernanda kissing like kids at the country house. Franco purses his lips.

Vlad vents to Damian and he is now beside himself with anger. He’s really annoyed at Pris for not returning his calls or even talking to him. It’s his baby and he wants to see her. Pris just about told him to drop dead. Dam tries to calm him down. Imagine that! Vlad says he knows the baby is his. He doesn’t want to go to any extreme, but he wants to be recognized. He wants Pris to quit treating him like a rag and treat him like the father of her child. Enter Fer.

Damian is not glad to see her. Vlad takes his leave.

Fer wants to know what’s going on.

Bar said she didn’t want to interrupt them at the country house. They are talking about different things – her secrets and his secrets. Bar puts on her sad face and reminds him about ruining Fer’s wedding. He finally says Fernanda doesn’t have anyting to do with anything today. It’s befween her and him. Fernanda had to obey him and to “acosar” (say, what? Go to bed with him?) with him because he’s in love with Fernanda Elizalde. Mystery music.

Damian wants to know why Fer came to see him. She says that Vlad’s visit is a matter between him and Vlad.

Santi runs into Gonzo in the hallway. Fer comes down the staircase. Gonzo is looking for Aurora. Fer is going to Lactos. Santi asks to go to the library with Gonzo.

Bar brings up the question of Franco’s interest in Fer’s wedding. Bar once again says to him that the death of a maid shouldn’t have stopped anything. Bar recites the story of Fer and the cook’s son. Oh, he says is that what happened. With sarcasm he says is that all. He calls her the bad seed – are you going to deny your romance with Damian Gallardo. Her phone rings – it’s the signal for the rescue. I guess you could say saved by the bell.

Obregon has called Barb. He is dressed for the part. Apparently he didn’t order from Cabello’s because his camo jacket does not match his camo jacket. He looks absolutely ridiculous. Jacinto prays to God for what he is going to do. Franco takes the money bag out of the car. Barb looks at it. Both are wearing leather jackets. Unfortunately, not matching either. He says he’s not moving from here.

Gonzo notices that Santi doesn’t looks good. Santi is sorry about Liliana but he also is worried about Aurora. Gonzo says are you sure Barb saw the man Aurora left with. Yes, says Santi, it could have been her father. Santi is gathering courage with the help of a few caballitos of tequila.

Aurora talks to Mother Superior and tells her that she wants to talk about what has happened to her, but she can’t. Mother reminds her that she should be comfortable here. Aurora says the only thing for her is to take the habit.

Bar goes to the boat and throws the money bag in the boat and releases the rope holding the boat to the dock. At the other end, high on a cliff, Obregon pulls in the rope. No high teck hijinks here. Jacinto is right on his case. Bar calls Obregon on the cell. She wants to know if he can see her. He says no. She says you’ll see me soon. Listen well and don’t pull any games on me you miserable creep or something bad will happen to you.

At Lactos Fer is beside herself with joy at seeing Florecita. They scream, run and hug. Flor tells Fer that Anibal is there and she wants to talk to her about Vladmir Pineiro. Fer wants to talk to Anibal about Vlad.

Bar tells Franco the drop has been made. Now they wait to get news of Lili from Obregon. Franco wants to keep talking. That makes her made because she doesn’t want to talk with him any more. Away they go.

Obregon has the boat with the money. He grabs the money and leaves the boat floating away. He climbs a steep rocky cliff keeping the money bag in a strong embrace when suddenly he looks up and has a great shock.

Flor tells Fer how grateful she is to the Elizalde family and that everything that has happened to her has been caused by Vladimir Pineiro. She thought he was interested in her. He gained her confidence and found out where the confidential files were located. She fell for the old bouquet of flowers trick. Vlad pulled the Lactos minutes out and passed them to Jaime. She followed Vlad and saw him kissing Priscilla. Fer tells her to calm down. She knows that what she is saying is dangerous, but she knows that Vlad is a bad dude. Fer comforts her and has an expression on her face that indicates she knows what has happened.

Mother Superior still questions why what has happened to Aurora about what has happened to her and how it has affected her decision to enter the convent. Mother Superior knows that Dominga was not a good person. Mother also understand what has happened to Aurora and the trouble she has experienced in her life. Mother doesn’t want her to isolate herself in the convent – but Aurora begs her because she is not alive.

Santi continues painting terrible pictures and thinks of Aurora.

Franco receives a call and turns the car around while Bar is trying to manhandle him. Don’t worry he says it’s a small detour. Bar wants to know what happened and he tells her to take her hands off the wheel. She’ll get home – just a little late. You’re smart Bar you know I wouldn’t accuse anybody without proof. Admit that you and Damian are lovers. Ok – she says I’m in your hands.

Franco rolls the windows down. The subject of Fer’s wedding comes up again. She says that now their negotiation will be more fruitful. Maybe they can be business partners. She says that would be very difficult with a person whose ID she doesn’t know. She’s looking. He gets closer to her – what do you think, he says, who is Rebeca Sanchez?

Ani wants to know what Fer is talking about. Why do you make decisions like this. It took you three minues to accuse Damian. Now it’s Vlad. She says what about Barb. Somebody is stealing from the business. He wants to know their names. He disses her about Vlad. Vlad has access to all accounts and confidential info about Lactos while Flor has worked for them for sixteen years says Fer.

Vlad is on a rant into the telephone. Pris – the baby is mine and he will not allow that it be taken from him to be raised by an Elizalde. Only death will separate him from the baby.

Pris talks to Rolando and he sends the excellent news to their father that Pris is expecting a baby boy. They are both very happy. She hasn’t heard her voice mail yet. They talk about the baby’s name – Rolando says it has to be Agosto like their father – not the name of an Elizalde. Their daddy isn’t going to be second best (plato de segunda mesa).

Pris sees that she has a message from Vlad and looks worried.

Franco says have you forgotten that Rebeca Sanchez is a woman who has a million and half dollars – no, she says. She insists that she has complete confidence in Rebeca Sanchez. He wants proof of Rebeca’s existence. They need to go on.

At Las Animas Steve is talking to his dad and is sending him a report. Gardenia enters and he continues speaking in English. Gardenia tries to figure out what he is saying. He tells her he was talking business with his father. She wants to know about the wedding between Venus and Camilo. Steve tells Gardenia that she has it all figured out. Gardenia says she has something to tell him: “Esa por mas trapos finos que traiga y se disfrace disque mujer decente la perla frente nadie se la quita” says Gardenia. “Pascuata” says Steve to himself. Help here – if you know what she said, fill us in.

Venus talks to Martina and is a bit confused, as am I, because she isn’t sure if she is going to have to marry Camilo or not. Martina says that don Gringito will understand what scum that Camilo is – who, by the way, is very busy with Natasha right now. Venus says the man of her dreams is right in front of her – but he’s trash. Venus is sure she loves Steve. She has nothing to lose if she marries that one, or does she?

Meanwhile Natasha tells Camilo that she feels abandoned. He says he’s been living his work. She wants to help him get away from work and go his apartment. He says they can’t do that because it is being painted. But there are other places for them. His phone rings – it’s Fernanda. She tells him that Bar and Franco went to rescue Lili. She tells him that Gonzo wants all the kids to get together right now. Poor Cam. He has to say so long to Natasha.

Franco finally stops the car and tells Bar to get out and accompany him. They see a red rag in a tree. Then they see Obregon tied to a tree with the money bag in front of him. What do you think of this, says Franco?

Avances: The family meets. Franco accuses Bar of killing Montserrat Elizalde. The gag comes off Obregon.

Well, wasn't that an exciting episodio? I loved the echange between Franco and Babs- it was a bit challenging to follow perfectly, but always fun! And I do like the closeups of Lucero, she really is a beautiful lady. I thought that Franco played too many cards, and now has nothing left, especially since he doesn't have Lili, has no idea where she is. It was a terrific risk to have grabbed Obregon, with just the suspicion that Babs was in on the caper. They just happen to be right, and they do know that Dr. O will sing like a canary.

What was really odd was that the entire Elizalde family was going about their normal lives while all of this high-stakes drama was happening- even Fer went in to Lactos, as if nothing unusual was going on. You'd think that all interested would be huddled together in the library, supporting each other, and awaiting any news. Oops, forgot to put on my beanie, and this is the family whose pic is in the wikipedia article on "dysfunctional family".

Tonight, we should see some interesting developments...

Thanks for the recap Pasofino. It was quite an episode and more intrigue is to come.

Dave: Good observations. Franco realy did reveal a lot. But, Barb still doesn't know that he's Eduardo - unless Artemio Bravo begins to research Lili's meanderings.

Pasofino: Terrific recap, thank you.

I also chuckled at Obregon's outfit. He looked more comical than pitiful tied up and helpless.

Off topic, last night's Destilando Amor rerun had some of our favorite MEPS characters(Martina, Santiago and Martina's father. However, the highlight was the appearance of our own Dr. Obregon, as a low-life photographer!

Dave, it was an exciting episode. The repartee between Fr and Barbie was fast and furious.

Dam and Vlad should never have separated. Their futures are now murky at best, especially for Vlad who has turned into a liability and a very loose cannon. I'd urge caution but alas, it may be too late.

Paso- forgot to thank you for the recap- so thanks! Eddy's true ID is about the only thing he held back. I seriously doubt that anyone would believe what Lili sez- even Fer didn't understand that Lili was trying to tell her that Eddy was there with them, Arty and Babs think that she's nutz, her brain addled by drugs for years. I'm trying to see what happens next, my ming is addled by the possibilities...

make "ming" to read "mind"...

Thanks, Pasofino. I understand very little that is said, but I did think that either last night or the night before Fr'ed told Barbie very clearly and distinctly ''I love Fernanda Elizande.'' However, did he really tell Barbie that Fer had to obey him and sleep with him ? Que the hell ? Why would he tell Barb that ? I also thought it was muy smarmy the way that Barbie told Franco that ''the death of a maid shouldn't have stopped anything.'' Bleccchhh. I thought at one point when Barbie moved in close to Fr'ed in the car that she was going to try to seduce him , but I guess his manner told her loudly and clearly that she does not have a chance with this guy. I remember that in Amor Real, Manuel tells Sixto at the very beginning that his dream is to find a wife and have kids. He lists his preferences as a mujer who is sweet and pretty with a good body. Eduardo seems to have the same wishlist for a mujer. Barbie is only two out of three, while Fer is meets all the criteria for the perfect telenovela wife..plus she's smart, kind, and usually easygoing. I am anxious to see where things go tonight. Does Dr. Ono know that Art has Lili ?

Thanks, Pasofino for your great recap.

What Fr/Ed told Barbwire was that he was the one doing the "acosar" which means force yourself on someone or sexually harass them. Acostar is when you go to bed with someone. He didn't indicate they'd actually done the nasty, but that he was trying and Fer wasn't really willing.

I could just slap Abora. The madre superior is trying to reason with her but she just sobs on. Of course, being a nun is not going to work well when the pregnancy starts showing!

Another scintillating battle of wits and words with Babs and Fr/Ed. Excellent acting on both sides. TBLMOE was so good. When she said the business about the wedding being ruined because of a cook, then later said a maid with such contempt, I noticed his hand curl as if he wanted to strike her, then controlled himself and moved his hand away.

Vladi has crossed a line. I gotta feeling someone may bump him off. I'd hate to see Pris go that route because I like her a lot.

But I think Fer's conversation with Anibal had some weight. Now two persons have told him Vlad was the one who passed on the board minutes. And Fer pointed out that Vlad has access to the GL funds.

Pasofino, excellent recap. I'm going to take a shot at some of the Spanish.

Franco may have said that he has his cards face up, while hers are amañadas. Amañar means to fix or rig, so he could be accusing her of using a rigged deck.

When Franco said he pursued Fernanda and she had to acosar, maybe he said she just was just there while he would acosar her, since acosar means to pursue relentlessly, harass or pester.

As for Gardenia's statement to Steve about Venus, I think she's just saying no matter how much you dress Venus up, she's the same (low-class) girl underneath. But I don't understand Steve's word "pascuata", although the word pascata means prudish, so I wonder if the titles were wrong, and he was confirming Gardenia's assertion that Venus's prudishness was just an act.

I may be wrong on all these, off course.

Susanlynn, I don't think Obregon knows that Art has Lili, but we should find this out tonight.

Whoops, my comment above came out as anonymous.

Hey all,

So what I got from part of what Gardenia said is that no matter how you dress Venus up (paraphrasing here), she will always have that "P" on her forhead. P for prostituta or puta is what I think she meant. The scarlett letter in a manner of speaking. And then there was a bit of comedy as Steve tried to guess what the "P" meant. So he said a series of "P" words to try to figure it out.

A few notes from Wed's cap.
This seems like the moment that Vlad goes around the bend. No more mister creepy nice guy.

Dave, you said, "I onder what opprtunites in life we might have missed just because we didn't speak our thoughts?" In my case, it's more like, what trouble could I have avoided, was I not so quick to speak my thoughts?

I seriously have to question Steve's credentials as a mastermind. He has all these big plans, but none of them accomplish anything -
big party
novia erika
steal Cam's car
Lovely plot

When Vlad said only death would spearate him from the baby, he sealed his doom. Vlad has clearly never been in novela-ville before or he'd know better than to say something like this.

Paula, yes, that is a good point. I have come to realize as I get older the signifigance that a single spoken thought can have. While I regret haing done a few (or more) things in my life, I regret just as much the things that I should have done, but didn't.

Thanks, Pasofino, for a great recap & thanks to Hombre & Vivi for additional translations. There is NO way I could ever untangle those conversations so when I watch, I'm usually guessing or making something up in my mind to fit my interpretation. Depending on the music, facial expressions or physical action, sometimes I'm close, sometimes I'm wrong but I'm always woefully lacking in true comprehension!

Great exchange w/ Fr/Ed & Babs. Love that man when he smiles!

Dr. O-What-a-Loser, trussed up like a suckling pig. This should be interesting...but doesn't he know Fr/Ed as Eduardo? I seem to recall a handwritten note way back when.

Vlad is dead meat. Some how, some way...but I don't think Pris will do it. Maybe Damn? Then he could really blackmail Pris.

Babs looked really peeved...she's lost complete control over this little caper. HA! A momentary set-back (since we have months to go before the end) but satisfying nonetheless.

Anyballs is pathetic. I'm sticking with the Piggly Wiggly career for that boy.

:-)

p.s. warm up the blender, gang! it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the recap Pasofino. I haven't gotten to read the comments yet. It's been crazy here today.

Great episode don't you think?! Lots of excitement. O tied to the tree was a hoot. How will Barb wiggle her way out of this one?

Can Nanda's clothes get any frumpier? Ack...

Carlos, Hombre, Susanlynn and everyone: Thanks for your interpretations of the confusing dialog. I've been baby-sitting a five-year old this week, and he just doesn't understand that I have to watch MEPS every week night. And, I just didn't have time to research the vocabulary.

I've been wondering about something. With Barbie suspecting that Franco Santoro is not Fr'ed's true identity, will she spill the beans to Fer ? Also, will Fer and Ed unite before or after Fer discovers that Franco is really her Onetruepuppylove Eduardo o o ? Any guesses ? In the beginning, I thought that Fr'ed as Franco was going to seduce Fer at The Country Love Shack, but that storyline went nowhere. I was sure that would be their lovenest. Now, I can't figure out when or where they will finally get together. I have a funny feeling that Fer will find out that Franco is Ed and be furious. I think that she won't forgive him for his deception and scheming and they won't get together until the very end. Que latima if that happens.

I'm with you, Susanlynn...I think Nanda will discover Fr/Ed is really Ed & viewerville will be left in suspense until she calms down & realizes there is no other man as hot as Ed. If she can't get over it, I'll take care of Ed myself.

Because I'm a giver, not a taker.

And right now, I'm giving myself a pass to get out of work!

Adios!

Jody and Pasofino, thanks for the last two recaps. And thanks for the comments with additional explanation on the dialogue.
Dr. O in camo seems to just emphasize his “inepto” character.
Vlad has crossed the line from devoted to dangerous, as his efforts with Pris are rejected. He has also sealed his doom by throwing out that challenge to the Grim Reaper.
Loving the fast and furious conversation between Barb and Fr/Ed. A verbal slugfest, with some great acting from both.
The only stable couple in this dysfunctional bunch are Jancinto and Marg. They suffered through that time of distrust, but have been solid since that was resolved. I can’t think of anyone else who isn’t teetering on the edge in their relationships.
There’s a long lineup of “bad guys” in this TN. Most of them have their entertaining moments, but we’ve been left wanting in the romantic/heroic department.

Good Afternoon all..... i was totaly understanding the back and forth banter with Barbie and Ed/Fr but it seemed like such a waste of time to me......Dr. O is too funny with his camo stuff and hat...what do u think will happen now that barbie is backed up in a cornor?.... and Franco/Ed has her in his manos?...I need more romance between Fer and Ed/Fr....more secret meetings and enough of Camii and lofly...boring....someone here mentioned about esteve fixing things up....and what has he done that has worked out so far?...... he needs to admit his attraction to lofly so she can calm down and continue with their charade on camii.....well, lets see what tonight brings......thanks for the recap.........good job.....BN in CA

Does anyone else think that Aurora is a dead ringer for Mary Anne (Dawn Wells) from Gilligan's Island?

Does anyone else think that Steve is a little light in the loafers?

Pasofino, your recaps are always great and your Spanish comprehension is so much better than mine. So, thank you very much.

After the fast drive through the forest, when Babs and Fr/Ed exited the car and walked down the forested bank, I thought that perhaps we were heading to where the old dude was kicked down the hill. He would be found, finally. Would they find him by accident or how would Fr/Ed have known he was there in the first place? But, instead, there was Dr. O. in his hunting/fishing outfit, gagged and bound to a tree.. Perhaps the writers were taunting us or perhaps they will really taunt us by never letting us know if the old guy is ever found.

Wonder why Fr/Ed is letting Babs see that he has Dr. O and the money? Is he manipulating her to force her to reveal more info? Dr. O may have another nervous breakdown and need much more medicine from his medical reference book.

GinCA

I think Pris should be a litle more sympathetic toward Vladimir. After all, she tricked him into being the father. And Anyballs doesn't want anything to do with a baby. Do you think maybe Anyballs had himself sterilized since he didn't want kids and realizes that the baby is not his? Sylvia

I enjoy reading the satirical summaries in caraycaray very much. I am learning Spanish and do not understand much of what is said in the telenovelas, in part because of the rapidity of speech and in part because of the loud background noises and music. At any rate I pick up what I miss in the plot from the recaps.
Apropos of Gardenia's expression "Esa por mas trapos finos que traiga y se disfrace disque mujer decente la perla frente nadie se la quita” I checked with my Spanish teacher and she said it's the same as" la mona por más que vista de seda, mona queda." (In other words, as in my "calendario de modismos", it means "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!!"
Again thanks very much for a wonderful entertainment.

Pasofino, Thanks for a great recap done under combat conditions. Sorry I'm late. Cpmputer problems. Translations of Gardenia's discourse with Esteve are of course spot on. I have puzzled all day over the pearl thing. I replayed it and DD forms an O with her thumb and index finger and holds it to her forehead while saying "...perla enfrente", or maybe,"pela enfrente," neither of which I can come with a coherent definition of. Tues. I'll present it to the lovely Adriana, although even she admits to at times being baffled by our Gardenia. The girl does have a way with words and at times her own secret language. Sandy, welcome. Check out the CCs if you haven't. They really help when the going gets tough. Carlos

SandyB: Thanks for the translation. I thought it meant something like that, but I just wasn't sure.

Carlos: Definitely combat conditions. I have had to clean every glass surface in my house including windows to remove little hand and noseprints.

Sylvia: I, too, have thought that Pris should be a little more sympathetic towards Vlad. I guess she must think he's too far below her socially to merit civility.

I can't help but wonder how Jacinto arrived at the lake in the middle of nowhere...did he ride his bike there?
Maybe now that Fr/Ed has big money he could buy a company car/truck for Jacinto to use. They were best friends.

Fer's has on the strangest skirt...looks like she was painting and wiped her hands on it, then crumpled it up.

Where can I find the recipe for the corn caserole?
thanks!

Pris used Vladimir for stud service only. She didn't realize what a wacko he was, since most men would love the situation of a 1 night stand & no ties.

No one has found Macario yet. Not Aurora when she was in the woods, not Lili when she was in the woods & not Jacinto. I'm beginning to think the old guy is recovering & will later point a finger at Babs along with muchos others.

Babs is cornered (acorralada) & I bet she can be even more dangerous.

Don't understand why Fr/Ed would let Dr O leave. He is going to need him later.

Carlos and others wondering about the reference to "perla enfrente" - I think she meant "la P en la frente". I'm pretty sure she meant prostitute since she obviously knows Venus from before.

Elle, check the recap for 7/15 Cap#107.

I, too, hate Fer's skirt. Actually, I haven't been thrilled with most of the costuming on this show, either for men or women (but Dr. O's commando outfit was a hilarious touch). It'd be less annoying if the story "days" were not so long - then we could at least hold out hope for timely changes of clothing.

Oh well.

Hey, I haven't noticed - is Pris "showing" yet? I just realized, if Damian said just a few "days" ago (in story time) that the wedding was a month ago, then Pris can't be more than a month pregnant either. So she'd better not be showing!

Maybe I was hallucinating when I thought he said it had been a month.

Come to think of it, it's probably way too soon for Aurora to be in the barfing stage of her pregnancy to, so never mind. Must be a beanie issue. :)

Regarding comments about the possible love nest at the campo house, has anyone noticed that the Elisaldes seem to be completely unfazed by the disappearance of the dude who seemed to be the caretaker. What was all that about Barbara pushing him off a cliff? I thought that the horseback riders might find him soon after that but the writers seemed to let him fade into that oblivion that engulfs many of the crimes in the novelas.
This one is way up there on my rating scale, though, as far as story as well as acting goes. If only Aurora weren't so boring it would be close to perfect.

When the old dude was introduced, he said he didn't get a lot of company. I guess the Elizaldes pretty much left him alone and didn't hear from him much unless there was a problem.

Still, you'd think at least the mailman would notice the big pile of unclaimed Val-Pak envelopes, etc.

But the old dude did have a granddaughter who either lived with him or visited with him so it makes no sense that his own family wouldn't notice his absence. And didn't Fer and Fr/Ed meet there at least once since his unfortunate tumble? The threads left hanging and the uncertain timeframe of all these happenings make it hard for me to keep on top of what's going on. Now I just watch it scene by scene and make the most out of it without tying anything to the main plot.

Yeah, you'd think the granddaughter would have noticed at least.

I think FrEd and Fer have met there only once since he disappeared, but I guess they were too absorbed in their little lovers' quarrel. Perhaps they thought he was taking a nap or out at Home Depot.

It is very odd. And very sad to think that someone could be missing for a week or more without anyone wondering where he is.
