ENDA: Friday 8/21/2009

Due to a family emergency, I have to head out of town and won't be able to do Friday's recap. Could someone please give a brief fill in on what happened and post it in the comment section. Thanks.

The Young Set: Paloma gets around Carlotta and goes to the movie with Aron. Germain (is that his name?) sees them and is surprised because he was going to make a play for Paloma. Emiliano and Romina go to the same movie, and Romina suggests that Paloma is not the saint she makes out to be. Poor jealous Emiliano. He has decided to break up with Romina, but will do so after the movie.

The Older Set: Emiliano's father, Raphael, finds out from Aron's busbody aunt that Diana has told her he is going to be a millionaire with the new plans for the ceramic factory. Not a dummy, he puts two and two together and realizes that was the same day that Diana followed him to the hotel for a reconciliation. He confronts her and tells her they should divorce. Meanwhile, he meets Camila and there are romantic vibes between them in the few minutes that they greet one another. She is having dinner with Emiliano's boos (whose name I don't remember) and while it is obvious that he is smitten, she does not seem to be. He tells her his sad tale of the mother of his child taking her away.
The House of Horrors: Carlotta and Maracenia go to say goodbye to Father Jacinto. When Mac goes to get some coffee, Carlotta implies that Macarena is on the same "bad' path that she took in her youth. Father Jacinto gives Macarena a warning about staying on the righteous path. To say the least, she is surprised!! She has had her date with the doctor, who has offered to marry her and take Paloma to live with them. (He is a quick worker. He knows what he wants!!) She disappoints Paloma and Rufi with her lack of enthusiasm. The family of Aurora (is that her name? the older servant of Inaki's family that Carlotta has polished off) if beginning to get worried and look for her.

Cristobal arrives...and when he gets off the bus he just misses Macarena and Rufi who are going to the church. He is very tense about his return and although Father Jacinto and his assistant priest are very welcoming, he is not a happy camper. Instead of being called Father Juan Cristobal, he asks to be called Father Juan. (Probably this will be important down the line, as when his true identity comes out there will be a lot of impactadness.)

I must admit that I don't watch this in an ongoing way. I really only started to tune in just before the death of Inaki. So I hope that these comments are not too much of a mish-mash. (I'm not even certain of all the names).

Hope this helps.

I had trouble posting this, and then NJ Sue posted as well. Maybe there are repetitions. I also think mine was too long so have made it two

Part 1

OK, Cathy, I'll give it a shot. I really don't remember capitulos that well until I read the recap, so I looked on You Tube and by some miracle found parts of the right capitulo. It is Cap. 33. You have to be very, very careful doing this because you don't want to view things that haven't been shown in the US. Because the You Tube things were short, I'm not certain this is the correct order, but it should be the gist of what happened.

Carlota and Macarena are both at the farewell lunch for Padre Jacinto. Macarena makes a gracious speech. Carlota takes the priest aside and tells him she's concerned about Mac. She reminds him of the time SHE confessed Mac's sin, and that she's fearful Mac is going to sin again. The freakin' nerve. She confesses her sister's sin!! The priest says something oblique to Mac like nothing is hidden from God. But Mac doesn't fall for this; she looks past him to Carlota and knows where this came from. I guess the very religious Carlota doesn't ever confess her REAL sins.

Carlota speaks to Inez and tells her it's inappropriate for her nephew to be calling on Pal, who is in mourning.

Carlota notices, upon returning alone from the lunch that her car has a big dent in the front. Mac stays in town to pray and seems to be speaking to her dead lover, telling him she feels him very close and that she felt unfaithful to him having dinner with Rodolfo.

A neighbor runs up to Arcadia's relatives and tells them that a body has been found in the ravine.

Paloma goes to Carlota in her office and tells her she was almost married, which would have made her independent. If Carlota was in favor of her marriage, she sees no reason C should not treat her more as an adult. C sort of agrees, then P springs it on her that she's going to the movies with Aron. C seethes and says she hopes things don't get difficult with Aron because it will be more difficult to do away with him because of being Inez' nephew.

Part 2

Cristobal arrives in Real del Monte on the bus. He takes a cab and looks wistfully around the town. He has the cabbie stop in front of C & M's house and looks through the gate. He gets back in and just misses Mac & Rufi returning on foot. When Cris gets to the church, he has a meal with Padre Jacinto and another priest. Jacinto tells him about the goodbye lunch and mentions that the Espinozas de los Monteros were there. Cris is visibly disturbed.

Orlando arrives to take Camila to dinner. Romina is very curt with him. Then Emiliano arrives to take Romina to the movies.

Now this part is fuzzy. I didn't find it on You tube, and I'm not sure if it was in Friday's episode or not. But Orlando tells Camila over dinner that he was very hurt by a woman. She was pregnant with their child, but refused him for someone who was richer or of higher status. He doesn't know if she had the child or not, if it was a boy or a girl. To me this surely sounds like it could be Diana, who was in a pickle, which Rafael alluded to in one of their conversations). This may be an interesting speculation on Emiliano's parentage.

Paloma and Aron arrive at the movies. He buys some popcorn and sodas. They run into German, alone, in the lobby and he makes an insinuating remark that he'd heard she was seeing someone. Pal is upset by this remark. Paloma and Aron go into the theater. Emiliano comes in, tells German Romina is in the bathroom. Em buys popcorn and two sodas, and Em and Germy walk into the theater. Em sees Pal and Aron and drops one of the sodas, then runs out of the theater. Germy confronts him, realizing it was seeing Pal and Aron that caused this reaction. He tells him that he's sure Emiliano is in love with Paloma. Romina appears and overhears this behind German's back. This was the end of the episode.

If anyone else remembers something I missed, please chime in. It also might be a good idea if we started putting chapter numbers on the episodes, as some others on this blog do. That way if you want to look for something on You Tube, you're less likely to see spoilers.

Part 3

I just remembered something. There was a scene of Carlota in her office screaming at someone that he had to have her car fixed TODAY. So the dent in the front is not going to reveal her crime.

Novelera and NJ Sue -- Good job!!!

I saw Friday's episode and I'm certain you got everything. I enjoyed reading the recap.

Hope everything is ok Cathy.

Thanks Novelera and NJ Sue. You got everything. Neither Macarena nor Camila seemed very excited by their dates. Poor guys.

Cathy, I am sorry to hear you have an emergency and I am hoping all turns out well.

Thanks to NJ Sue and Novelera for doing such a fab job especially on short notice. I think you have remembered it all and made it very enjoyable for the readers.

I have been shopping for a dinner outfit and have discovered clothes in the stores this season are mainly Carlota purple and Carlota black. At least in this one store almost everything was purple or black. Who knew she was setting a fashion trend. Anyway, I now own a sweater, ruffled blouse and scarf all in Carlota purple. Hope I don't feel like making a hit list under the influence of all that purple.

It seems as if Orlando and Diana produced offspring (Emiliano) but who would ever think that they could be a pair, let alone Orlando being interested in her.....go figure. And Rafael as well come to think of it. Love is blind as they say.

i wonder when Paloma will learn about her inheritance...how many more months until she turns eighteen? And how far away is graduation day? I thought it was very very soon in the future.

GinCA

Also, I wonder how long it's been since Inaki died...a week, 2 weeks or longer in telenovela time? GinCA

Cathy: I hope everything is all right.

NJ Sue - so good to see you post again! You've been missed. Sincere thanks to you, Novelera and everyone who filled in the blanks.

The other day, someone mentioned Aron being like "Clark Kent" in appearance - good one :). However, he is kind and understanding and above all, doesn't let Carlota intimidate him one bit.

NJ Sue and Vivi, I was disappointed that there seemed to be no spark on Camila's part during her dinner with Orlando. She kept staring at him but I couldn't figure out why. It's as though she had nothing to say. Think it will be difficult for her to end up with Rafael, especially after what appears to be looming with Emiliano and Romina.

The only thing I can add is that the previews show that an investigation into Arcadia's murder will be ensuing (but as you pointed out Novelera)probably well after Carlota's car is fixed.

GinCA, I'm sure your outfit will be great - purple is very trendy now (who knew Carlota would be ahead of the curve?) :)

I don't have much to add about the plot; you all filled it in as well as I remember it. I hope things sort out, Cathy.

I think it's been at least a few weeks since Iñaki's death. We had a few days of funereal stuff, then "some days later," then a few days in which Paloma decided to return to school, and it's been a few days since then.

I think Carlota hasn't confessed any of her sins because she doesn't consider them sins. She is utterly convinced that she is right, with all her murdering and abuse, and everyone else is on the road to perdition with their...wanting to go out with friends, and other such barely speakable evils.

Purple is definitely in, which I am very glad about because it suits me. I wear it all the time and don't have any murderous tendencies. I don't, however, have a lace scarf thing.

Interesting. I have always felt that I look simply awful in purple, so have absolutely not the smallest garment of purple OR lavender. Julia, I'm glad to hear you're free of murderous tendencies as I was wondering if it was my disinclination to ever wear this color that had kept me out of the penitentary.

NJ Sue and Novelera – you two are tops! Thank you for your terrific recaps.

Now I just hope everything’s okay with Cathy. Worrisome.

Novelera – your brain must work better than mine. It seemed obvious to me that when Orlando suggested he had a missing child, one of our characters would turn out to be that child. That far I got. But it didn’t dawn on me to think of Diana’s mysterious past shame. I’m betting you’ve gotten it exactly right.

Much as I’m rooting for Rafa, I’m afraid he doesn’t stand a chance with Camila because no love song comes on where they’re together.

I just can’t figure out why Mac and Camila are so reticent about having wonderful men suddenly come into their lives. Particularly Mac – here is her great chance for escape and a vastly improved life. Is she so beaten down that she can’t consider it?

Macarena did say she felt like she was betraying her One True Love...presumably Cris. But since she thinks he's long gone, she should really try to make the best of things with someone new given a good opportunity. Proposing on the first date was a little forward of the doc, though. Well-meaning, but maybe Mac would have liked a little more courting first.

Does anyone else think that Cristobal will be unrecognizable and no one will know that Father Juan is Father Juan Cristobal? As I wrote, I've only begun to follow this recently and am wondering.

I love Purple and wear it all the time --but not on my lips (ugh!) and eyelids. Carlotta seems to trowel it on. It's that Addams family look.

Novelera did a great posting, and cleared up some things for me. I've spent the summer tending to an ailing husband, who is now well, and put all telenovelas on the back burner. But I am definitely interested in continuing with his one.

Hope everything is okay with Cathy's family emergency.
NJ Sue

Thanks for all the kind words on what I wrote.

NJ Sue, thanks also for your recap. Interesting idea that they won't recognize Cristobal. That had never occurred to me. You may be right, with the hint given than he's called Padre Juan. Although I have been waiting with bated breath for Carlota and Mac to see him. If they don't recognize him, that might be just like a TN writer, since they specialize in delayed gratification, keeping you hanging until the last week!

I think Macarena's problem is a combination of two things. First there's the extremely common TN syndrome that protagonists fall deeply in love, but only once. So she can't get over Cristobal. The other thing is that she suffers from being bullied her whole life by her stronger and more forceful sister. Having someone constantly tell you you're weak and unworthy can wear someone down. A more forceful personality would have told her to shove it long ago and either moved out or pushed back very hard on Carlota's dominance. But Mac is a gentle soul and hasn't been able to do that. Plus, we're pretty sure she had a child out of wedlock and, on some level, feels terribly guilty about that - being a product of a conservative, religious society.

And Carlota's hinting to Padre Jacinto that Mac is going down the same path again? What, she's going to get knocked up? What was the point of Carlota speaking to the departing priest about it other than to be a gossipy b!+ch? I wish he had just told her to mind her own business.

I wasn't sure how to interpret Camila's behavior on her date with Orlando. Was she nervous, because she hasn't dated in so long? Or was she just realizing that she wasn't interested in him?

NJ Sue, I'm glad your husband is better and you're back with us.

Julia- I guess she thought the priest could guilt Mac into not going on her date or being interested in men since she had been so unsuccessful at it. It annoyed me that the priest actually followed up with Mac instead of telling Carlotta to mind her own beeswax and worry about her own sins. Plus, he knows Mac extremely well. She's at the church all the time and I'm pretty sure she confesses the truth, so he should know she's not a person to do frivolous or sinful things. He seemed like a nice guy, but if that's the way he goes about things, I'm glad he's leaving!
