Weekend Discussion: The Narcissism Epidemic

Narcissism is one of the most common mental disorders of telenovela villains.  Many people have a very simplistic definition of it:  Muhammad Ali.  His "I am the greatest" is how many people see narcissism.  The sad truth is that it's far more complex than that.

Narcissists see themselves as the center of the universe.  Everyone else exists for their purposes and once they cease to satisfy them, they either become evil or non-existent.  They are incapable of dealing with their own faults and assign them to others as a way of ridding themselves of them.  In extreme form they can be diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Weekend Discussion: Crimes of Fashion

One of the things inciting constant comment here is the fashion felonies committed by many female characters in novelas (or by the fashion consultants for the shows).  It seems that femme fatale rivals and villanas are the biggest offenders, although heroines can be guilty, too.  For our purposes today we will cover the villanas, particularly since we have such a stunning example in our current prime time.

Weekend Discussion: Controversial Subjects

Tuesday's capitulo of Lo Que La Vida Me Robó provoked over 100 comments regarding the marital rape scene that echoed Gone With the Wind in many respects [GWTW's scene is still being debated today]. This may not have been the ideal way for the writers to handle the wedding night of our flawed but otherwise sympathetic protagonists, but a lot of bytes are being seriously inconvenienced in internet postings from viewers debating all the same hypotheses and issues we raised on Wednesday morning.

Which – por supuesto – is always good for ratings.

Several other series have provoked discussion in the last few years over other highly controversial actions and interactions:

Weekend Discussion: Bodas Interumpti... y otros desastres, Part 1

Part I

Sometimes I think there is a deal between the bridal industry and the networks that produce telenovelas. This thought first occurred to me in 2000 when Aracely Arámbula had no fewer than four bridal gowns in Abrazame Muy Fuerte: one in the bridal shop that she rejected, one for the interrupted wedding to José Maria, the third for the completed wedding to José Maria, and the fourth for the finale wedding to Carlos Manuel. Little did I realize at the time that this was close to the norm.

Here we will look at weddings that didn't or almost didn't happen and two which did but which will always be associated with tragedy.

Weekend Discussion: Villains; They Who Make Our Flesh Crawl

Dirty Dozen # 5 The Sleazebags

These are the evil men who are not accepted in polite society.  They mostly lack the social skills and the minimally acceptable-to-excellent appearance of their higher-born and higher-educated brethren in evil.  They normally cannot enter parlours or drawing rooms.  They usually dress badly, are often less than hygienic, and usually have no family ties or any other kind other than to their paymasters who are usually the mastermind villains.  They happily do all the low-level tasks the others are unwilling to do as long as they are paid for it.  They sometimes initiate evil acts of their own, but frequently they aren't clever enough to always assess risk vs. reward.  They are usually expendable once their dirty work is done, but sometimes clever enough to outwit their masters.

Who is the most evil of them all?

Weekend Discussion: Mandatory Forgiveness and Its Evangelists

Disclaimer: I am not a practitioner of any organized religion, nor was I raised in one. I know that the ability to grant forgiveness is a primary goal in most organized religions, but if “To err is human, to forgive divine” I will leave forgiveness to the angels.

We are always being told that forgiveness is for the forgiver rather than the person who offended him or her; forgiving is letting go to avoid living with rancor and hate. I can buy that notion if the offending act was committed in ignorance of the resultant suffering, whether the offender simply did not know the person would be offended or if s/he lacks the mental capacity for understanding such things. I can accept the idea of forgiveness if the offender apologises sincerely and makes amends (even if that can only mean getting out of the injured party's life). I cannot extend the same absolution to persons who knowingly commit malicious acts regardless of their motives for doing so.

Weekend Discussion: A Study of Novela Villains, Part One

Villains.  Where would melodramatic telenovelas be without them? As in grand opera, they are colorful and over-the-top evil, with grand gestures and outrageous fashions on the women and basso-profundo voices on the men. They come in distinct (stereo)types and for our purposes we will discuss them by classification. Therefore we will examine a series of Dirty Dozens to determine who is the most evil within each. Controlling parent villains will also include their usual surrogates (steps, uncles, aunts, grands), peers will include same-sex siblings, and there is a third category yet to be named. This week's Dirty Dozen – in this author's mind – is perhaps the most lethal of them all:

The Pear Robe Project

The sexy, interesting, and sometimes just bizarre wardrobe of our TN characters, particularly our heroines, provides an endless source of conversation on this blog. As does the re-use of props and clothing in multiple TNs. But never has a recycled TN clothing item been more used, debated, and immortalized than THE PEAR ROBE.

You know the robe I’m talking about. It’s legendary! Kind of like Fafy Cuenca! White terry cloth. LARGE black and green pears all over. It has been donned by an assortment of TN ladies—heroines and villainesses alike. I decided to hunt down this often sighted, but never photographed (at least not on this blog) clothing item, and capture its image. Here is the result.

Perfect Wedding Day Attire- En Nombre del AmorBefore the ill-fated nuptials between bad girl Romina and her best friend Paloma’s one-true-love Emiliano, Romina donned The Pear Robe, and her bridal tiara. She was positively glowing from her victory in fooling Emiliano into believing that the baby she was carrying was his, and not that hunky bad boy German’s. Not even the shock of finding out she was bleeding, and likely miscarrying, was going to keep her from walking down that isle.

Romina gets her tiara on just right, but then gets a nasty surprise when she sits on the porcelain throne.

The Look of Innocence- Llena de Amor
Kristel has just been rolling around in bed with her lout of a boyfriend Mauricio (aka Rapey Snake). Unfortunately, the maid tattled on her to Mama Fedra who has called on henchman Bernardo to kick the locked door down. Kristel may be a fresa, but she’s no dummy. She’s thrown Mauricio off her second floor balcony, hopped quickly into the shower to get that wet look, and emerged from her bathroom in her beloved Pear Robe to find out what all the fuss is about. She was just taking a shower, by herself, after all.

Kristel perfects her look of innocent confusion in front of an incredulous Fedra and Bernardo

Anguish and Despair Wear- Hasta Que el Dinero Nos SepareAfter hating him, then fighting her feelings, then falling madly in love with him, Alejandra must give up her Rafael. This leads to endless nights of sorrow and tears like this one.

What could be better to wear when one is in the depths of despair than a comfy robe of pears?

Phantoms, Panic, and Pears- Soy tu DueñaOscar the Not-So-Friendly Ghost has come to visit evil Ivana once again. Maybe he’s mad that she killed him? Or he just might be trying to tell her that that Pear Robe is a major fashion faux pas.

This is the most clothing we ever saw Ivana wear

Random Pear Sightings- Ni Contigo Ni Sin TiI’m not even watching this TN, but I was going along, minding my own business, working from home with the tv on in the background, and of course checking in on CarayCaray and gossiping about The Pear Robe, when what should appear, but THE PEAR ROBE?! This pretty young lady was carrying it nonchalantly, as she blew off this nice young man who seems to really like her. Obviously her taste in bathrobes does not bother him.

Did I conjure up the Pear Robe just thinking about it?

Honorable Mentions
There are rumors that The Pear Robe made an ap-pear-ance in Un Gancho al Corazon and Mañana es Para Siempre (MEPS), two TNs I have seen. I seem to remember it appearing in those too, but can’t remember the exact scene, nor who the un-lucky wearer was. I have also been told it appeared in Juan Querendon, a TN I did not see, on a character named Marley.

I for sure remember this similar robe from MEPS, worn by our heroine Fernanda on her wedding day. Instead of pears, the robe is covered with flowers. Perfect for a sweet heroine filled with doubts about marrying her hot fiancé (Sergio Sendel), when her hot one-true-love (Fernando Colugna) is still out there somewhere. Why is THE PEAR ROBE so popular, while this one has disappeared into the back of Televisa’s wardrobe closet?

Flowers vs. Pears, which do you prefer?

Have you spotted The Pear Robe?

En Nombre del Amor, March 4, 2010--Some Goodbyes and New Beginnings

Eugenio confronts Carlota about how she could have had his love and his help and now she’s going to end up alone.

Emiliano and Orlando are saying goodbye. Orly wants to stay away from Crazytown for awhile, but notes that this town gave him the most marvelous gift: he found Emiliano, his son, And, he found love, and settled some old debts from his past. Emil is sad about what happened with Camila, but Orly tells him not worry--before he didn’t have motivation to work, but now he has Emil as an heir and is comforted by the fact that one day he’ll be grandpa to Emil’s kids. Emil says “I love you very much, papa” and promises they will always be close and they hug.

Shot of the loser boozer guy taunting Xochitl with food while she’s still tied up in the flower cart.

Luz and Rafael ask two girls outside a marketplace if they know anything; someone named Tito told the girls that he saw the boozer eating and shopping nearby, so Rafa has them help search the market.

PJC blesses the business--apparently it’s in the same marketplace--of the couple formerly known as Gossip Guy and Wife, who again thank PJC for forgiving them. PJC reminds them that in the mass he said all is forgotten.

Luz spots the flower cart and sees a little pair of hands buried at the bottom. She stops the guy and pulls some of the flowers away to reveal Xochi, whereupon the boozer grabs Luz and threatens her with a knife. PJC is walking by and stops to tell the guy to let Luz go. Loser boozer tries to stab PJC but PJC swats him with his briefcase. Rafa, Paloma and Gabe come running.

Camila and Romina arrive home. The nurse mentions that Emil has been looking after the baby. If only he was the father of my baby, Romi laments. There is a flower arrangement there for Romi and Cami, from Rafa. Cami says Romi should thank him later; Romi slyly suggests that Cami do it for the two of them.

Rafa is amazed that PJC knocked the guy out--what did you hit him with? Well, with my briefcase, and this--he pulls out his bible—the hand of God.

Rufi visits Carlota (who repeats that she doesn’t want to see Rufi) to deliver the statue of the virgencita. Rufi acknowledges that she can’t take care of Carlota by force, so she thought maybe the virgencita can care for her. La Loca shoos her away. Rufi chatters on about how she can bring Carlota food in prison and she’s going to make her favorite dishes. Carlota yells again that she doesn’t want to see her. I know, Rufi says, but you are like a daughter to me, albeit one like Cain. Rufi talks about how parents don’t stop loving their kids even when they’re mad at them. Carlota rolls her now teary (I think?) eyes and cuts Rufi off with “you’re not my mother”. Rufi never wanted to be Carlota’s mother, but she swore to her that she would care for Carlota and Macarena. Rufi continues, telling Carlota “In spite of everything you have done, I know that I love you, so I’m going to be near you even if you don’t love me” (or "even if you don't want me to be close", I'm not exactly sure). Do I see a tear? Is the purple iceberg starting to melt?

The police take the boozer away and Rafa and Luz thank Cris for his help. Gabe comments that the guy is going to prison now and Xochi chimes in with “and I’m going with my mommy!”

Pal has magically teleported to Carlota’s hospital room. Before leaving the room, Rufi tries to give Carlota a blessing, but the Queen of Mean leans away. Anyway, Pal has come to demand an explanation for all the harm auntie has done.

At their apartment, Luz and Rafa bid each other goodbye--he asks if she’s sure she doesn’t want to stay the day, but she wants to get going on her trip. She asks Rafa to be Xochi’s godfather and he says "of course" and kisses the little girl goodbye. They wish each other the best with Luz thanking him and saying she doesn’t want to ever forget their time together. As she leaves she laments what couldn’t be.

Carlota refuses to explain anything, so Pal replies “then this will be the last time we’ll see each other”. From now on, her only family is her dad, Rufi and her grandma. Paloma isn’t afraid of Carlota anymore but Carlota insists that this isn’t over, saying “Don’t underestimate me.” Pal thinks Carlota is the one who underestimated *her*--you thought you could control me but you failed. Carlota claims she got what she wanted--which was for Pal to be left alone--because that little painter is going to kick the bucket any minute now. You attract bad luck and suffering, you put an end to everything that you love. Pal just shakes her head.

Orly visits Camila and they chat for a bit about Romi--he suggests that perhaps the accident and being so close to death has made Romi reconsider her life. But as to why he’s really there . . . he met with his lawyer and there are problems with the divorce, because the law won’t grant it until after a year of marriage. Cami thinks that can’t be when Emil & Romi just divorced after less than a year, but Orly says their case was different. Soooo, what’s going to happen with us? asks Cami. With a smile, Orly replies "Well, we stay married."

Back to Carlota and Pal, who’s not falling for Tia’s emotional blackmail. Pal notes that La Loca won many battles where innocent people died, but Good and Justice won the war. Carlota declares that she is not going to take things lying down while HER money is taken away from her. Pal tells Carlota that she will go to jail (even though she didn’t file charges against her) for killing Inaki and Mac and trying to kill Pal. Pal feels sorry for Carlota, which makes the crazy one yell at her to get out, cuz she don’t need nobody’s pity. Neither your God, nor your law, nor your justice is going to beat me. Carlota says they will meet again; Pal just shakes her head and leaves. Carlota hisses “Of course we will meet again” to the accompaniment of the bassos and the special light that shines on her eyes while leaving everything else dark.

Out in the waiting room with Gabe and Rufi, Pal says she told Tia everything that she had to say. Gabe then informs them that he’ll drop them off at the hotel, and then he has to go to Mexico City to get some paperwork. Hmm, that sounds made up to me. Anyway, he thinks he’ll be back the next morning.

More Cami and Orlando--he thinks that in the year they’ll have to wait, she’ll get over her anger and they can try to start over. Cami gives him the news flash that it’s not because of anger over him lying about Houston (and then sleeping with Angelica), she wants a divorce because she made a mistake and wants to fix it--what they had together is long gone. Orly whines “But a lot can happen in a year” blah blah blah, but Cami is positive that he is not the man with whom she wants to spend the rest of her life. She tried, but she doesn’t luuuurve him. Orly refuses to give up and wants to try to win her back.

Yvonne is helping Dr. B. to stand up for the first time since he was shot. He says he can hire someone to help him because he feels bad that she and Natalia have done so much for him. “Well, we’re friends, aren’t we?” she asks. “That’s what friends are for [cue Dionne Warwick], to be there in good times and bad.”

Cami tells Orly he has a right to continue deluding himself, but she has a right to not want to 1) see him and 2) prolong something that is inevitable. Orly agrees, to each his own, but then says that in the year they’re waiting for the divorce, neither one of them should see anybody else. Cami’s response is “no way, you’re not in any position to ask me to do anything”. She considers herself completely free now to do whatever she wants.

Padre Benito is on the phone with Obispo Calixto, who has informed him that he's coming to RdM the next day. PB and Padre Mateo wonder what’s going on--Calixto would only say that it had to do with PJC.

Luz has stopped by Camila’s on her way out of town for a chat about Rafa. Cami doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Yeah, you’re right, Luz agrees, I’m just so impulsive and you’re married and I completely forgot. She gets up to leave but Cami stops her and informs her that she and Orly aren’t together anymore. Luz waxes philosophical for awhile about how things happen just when they have to happen and explains that she and Rafa have ended their relationship. Although he loved me, he never loved me like he loved you. If you didn’t run away with him the day of your wedding, maybe you can do it now that you’re divorcing Orly. Cami is impactada.

Eugenio is upset with Gabe because he doesn’t understand why he has to leave; Gabe says he has to get papers for the wedding. Euge knows he’s lying, so Gabe confesses that he’s going to see the doctor. Euge asks Gabe to tell him what he’s hiding.

Paloma wants to give her ring (the one from Inaki) to Rufi so that Rufi will never forget everything she’s done for Pal; Rufi protests. Pal doesn’t want Rufi to have to work anymore, so in addition to the ring, she’s going to buy her a house and give her a pension. She loves Rufi with all her soul and is always going take care of her.

Carlota pretends to take her medicine, then spits the pill out behind the nurse’s back. She asks the nurse how much she earns and whether she’d like to earn 1 million pesos in one day. The nurse laughs and thinks that can only happen with the lottery. Carlota beckons her closer and says “if you help me get out of here, that lottery can be a reality.” The nurse doesn’t think that’s possible since there are guards outside. Carlota insults her for being small-minded but then urges her to think about it. Oh, and you better not tell anyone about my proposal because I’ll deny it.

Romi is washing her hands in the sink when the steam turns to flames--she has a flashback of her accident and starts to flip out, thinking she’s trapped in the bathroom. Cami comes running and tells her unlock the door. A sobbing Romi opens the door and Cami tries to calm her down.

Emiliano visits his dad for a guys’ night out. He breaks the news to Rafa that Cami isn’t going to Houston with Orlando because they are going to get divorced. Rafa smiles.

Romi is trying to read a magazine when the sound of a crying baby starts up. This drives her nuts and she yells for Cami to do something, make it stop. She runs into the nursery shouting “shut up!”, then grabs a pillow and nearly slams it down on the poor baby in his crib. She stops just in time and sees that he’s not crying at all. “Do you want your mama to hug you too?” she asks him. “I also want mine to hug me.” Romi then touches him and asks her baby for forgiveness. Cami listens in at the doorway. Romi knows she’s been really bad with him and promises that she’s going to be a good mother. Cami cries silently and thanks God for this miracle.

Pal and PJC are out at dinner--he wants to be her father officially and for her to have his name. They agree that Mac would have wanted this.

Eugenio and Gabe meet with the doctor, who looks very glum. The upshot is that his condition will to continue to worsen until one day his heart will just stop working. Euge and Gabe want to know how much time he has left--the doc thinks maybe one month.

The next morning, Romi cuddles her baby in bed. She doesn’t want to go with Cami to Monica’s wedding; she wants to stay home and take care of Bernardo. She took the medicine the psychiatrist prescribed and is feeling better. Then Cami puts a damper on things by informing Romi that German is in jail for fraud and bribery.

Emil is buying flowers for Romi when he runs into Liliana, whose response is Oh no, don’t get back with that witch. She thinks he and Pal can still get back together and hints that although Pal is marrying Gabe, it may not last long. Emil doesn't want to talk about that and instead tells Lili about Romi’s accident and about German being in jail--this news surprises Lili.

Romi and Cami talk about German while Romi changes the baby’s diaper. Romi admits that she was affected by the news of him being in jail. Cami asks what she feels for German, but Romi doesn’t know. She doesn’t want anything bad to happen to him, but she never imagined a life with him. Cami asks Romi if she’s going to see him and says “although I don’t like him for you, maybe he has changed, like you have.” She reminds Romi that German loves her and he’s the father of her baby.

Obispo Calixto meets with PJC while Padres Benito and Mateo nervously tell the bishop about their worry that he regrets PJC’s return to the church. OC assures them that it’s exactly the opposite--he has come to renew their offer for PJC to become a bishop. Cris reminds OC that he has a kid. OC tells PJC that’s not a problem, as there have been many bishops in the church’s history that had children before they were ordained. Cris is impactado.

ENDA, March 3, 2010. A time for 2nd chances

Old: Romina writes Camila a letter and leaves Bernandito with her. Romina heads for the open road. Camila says you can't do to your son what your father did to you.

Romina and a guy are flirting back and forth on the road. She is on the wrong side of the road and swerves to avoid an oncoming car and flips over.

New: Natalia and Ivonne tell Dr. Bermudez what happened while he was out.

Romina tries to get out of the car, but is stuck. She sees fire and starts freaking out.

PJC is giving communion to the prisoners, talks to his old cellmate and watches the inmates play a game of soccer.

Camila calls Monica and tells her what happened. Monica tells her to calm down that Romina will probably call her. You know how impulsive she is. Camila hopes everything is okay with her.

Police and firemen show up to get out Romina with the Jaws of Life. Romina is hysterical. The paramedics tell her to calm down. The guy in the other car is far worse.

German asks Nestor his old boss to help him get out. Nestor says he can't because he doesn't want to get his name dragged in with his.

Emiliano comes to visit Camila after receiving a call from her. She shows him the letter that Romina wrote. She has tried to call her many times, but just gets voicemail. He is furious that Romina would abandon her child after complaining about her dad doing the same. The pattern has repeated itself says Camila. Emiliano tells her that German has been detained for fraud and will probably go to jail. Camila gets upset. Emiliano assures her that he will take care of the baby and will fight for custody. Camila sighs and says that her grandson could not have a better father then him. Emiliano assures her that they both will care for him. The phone rings and she finds out about Romina. Emiliano says he's coming.

Paloma, PJC and Madeleine are having dessert and coffee at a restaurant. Madeleine tells Paloma that it is her time now to be happy. Paloma hopes so. On the outside she appears happy, but inside she is sad with all that Carloca has done. Madeleine understands and says that your family will help you overcome your sadness. Madeleine takes her leave. Paloma tells PJC that she is going to visit her mother at the cemetery. PJC asks if she wants him to go, but she prefers to go alone. He tells her that German called Emiliano asking for help. German wanted Emiliano to lie for him, but he refused. Paloma says Emiliano has always been a good friend to German. Yes, but that friendship has limits replies PJC. Emiliano made a comment to me about not understanding your relationship with Gabe. I couldn't tell him about Gabe's secret. Are you sure about your decision? Do you really want to marry Gabe? Yes replies Paloma. Emiliano will have to make a life with someone else.

Nurse Betty comes to give Carloca her medication, but Carloca refuses. The nurse shoves the pill in her mouth and tries to force her to swallow water, but instead spills in on Carloca. Carloca calls the nurse an idiot and tells her to get out. After the nurse leaves, Carloca says to herself that she doesn't want to take any more meds to make her sleep. She has to find a way to leave and go back to her house, to her money, to Paloma and PJC.

German has called the old attorney Rojas and asks for help. Rojas doesn't want to get involved even when German threatens to spill the beans on him helping Carloca change the will.

Romina is in the hospital and remembers being stuck in the car. She starts freaking out. The nurse tries to calm down her down and says your mother is on her way. Romina says I never want to drive again or get in another car.

An investigator comes up and tells German that they found out he helped falsify a will to help out Carloca Espinosa de los Monteros. German denies the charges and says it was all Rojas. The investigator tells him to stop lying. German says look at the dates. I wasn’t even working at the law office at the time the will was falsified. The investigator says we will open an investigation and if it is true then Rojas will join you in jail. You knew about this and should have denounced him. And because you didn’t you are now his acompliance. No matter what happens you cannot wash your hands with this. German is now in more crap because of his greed.

The doctor comes to Carloca and says that the nurse told him what happened. Carloca asks if he has fired her. The doctor tells her that she is in no way allowed to treat anyone in that manner. Are you threatening me asks Carloca. I am telling you that if you keep treating my nurses this way then I will ask that you be transferred to another hospital replies the doctor. Carloca says you can’t do this! Not until you investigate why I can’t move my legs. My I can’t walk! Of course I can replies the doctor. They can keep attending to you at the jail. The only reason I am not doing it, is because your condition is a mystery to me. I don’t understand the cause of your immobility. But I want to figure it out. Although that all depends on your attitude.

Gabe tells Eugenio that PJC called him while he was in the shower. Is it about Carloca asks Eugenio. I don’t know replies Gabe. Eugenio tells him that it’s time to confront Carloca although it is not easy. I thought she had a good heart, but I was wrong.

A doctor comes to tell Camila and Emiliano that Romina will be alright. Emiliano wants to know when Romina can come home. The doctor tells them that Romina was stuck in the car and they had to pull her out. She is so shaken up that they had to give her sedatives. She will need professional help to overcome this trauma. Physically nothing is serious with her, but emotionally there is.

Romina is lying in bed and yells out “NO!”

German tries to call for Romina, but finds out she’s not home.

Romina says that she was really scared and doesn’t want to die. Camila says she will take care of everything. Let’s go home. Romina starts freaking out. She doesn’t want to get in a car. Camila says that is the only way to go home. Romina says and if I get stuck in a car again? Camila tries to reassure her that it won’t happen.

PJC visits German and says that Emiliano came to see him. He asked if Eugenio could help him out. German is shocked that Emiliano would try to help him out. PJC says he spoke with Eugenio who has agreed to help him out. He tells German to repent and start anew.

Orlando comes rushing in the hospital. When he received Emiliano’s text about what was going on he had to come. I think that Camila needs you now replies Emiliano. Of course. I realized that my place was with you and Camila replies Orlando. Where is she? Emiliano says in the room with Romina. How is she asks Orlando. Emiliano tells him about Romina being stuck in the car and the trauma she suffered.

Camila tells Romina that she needs professional help to deal with the trauma. Romina wants to know why all these bad things happen to her. Camila suggests if perhaps she wasn’t so impulsive these things wouldn’t happen to her. Leaving like you did wasn’t right. The police report says that you were playing with another car and going to fast. You wanted to leave me and the baby and look what happened to you. But you’re alive. Romina asks for a hug. A psychiatrist comes in wanting to visit with Romina.

Eugenio visits German and says that he doesn’t want to preach, but it was obvious what he was doing. German says he has repented. Eugenio says really?

Orlando takes Camila and Emiliano to the cafeteria. She tells Emiliano that he doesn’t have to stay. Romina will not be leaving until tomorrow. Emiliano wants to at least talk to her before he leaves. Orlando says thank god she is willing to get help and that she is alive. The car was totaled. Camila agrees and says that the psychiatrist is talking to her. She will be by her daughter’s side to help her. Camila thanks Emiliano for coming with her and his support. Emiliano says no problem and leaves to see Romina. Camila tells Orlando that he doesn’t have to stay. He doesn’t have to worry about her. Orlando says he won’t leave her and that they can talk. But I see that this is not the right time. I agree replies Camila. This is not the right time, but we do need to talk.

German tells Eugenio that he is ready to testify against Carloca and Rojas. You realize that will not set you free replies Eugenio. Yes replies German. Do you realize of the consequences asks Eugenio. Yes replies German. You are going to have to pay your debts says Eugenio. Yes, I know replies German. I never thought that I would be in this situation. But PJC and Emiliano believe in me. And I can no longer go on like this. Do you believe in yourself asks Eugenio. You have spent your life seeking approval from others. After money and a better social status. Do you believe in yourself? Yes answers German. Do you yells Eugenio? Yes! replies German. I was wrong. I now have nothing. I am no longer an attorney. The woman I love does not want me. My son does not deserve a father like me. Eugenio says that a man does not measure himself by how many times he falls, but the times that he gets up. But if depends on you. You have to convince yourself. I am replies German. Okay let’s look at your case says Eugenio.

Orlando asks for another chance. Camila tells him that it ain’t going to happen. So you want a divorce asks Orlando. Yes replies Camila. Okay then says Orlando. It hurts me to my soul, but I will give you your freedom.

Emiliano goes to see Romina and brings her a single rose. He asks how she is feeling. Romina says better. I talked to the physiatrist and she gave me medication to help me calm down. Even when I am asleep I am scared. Emiliano tells her it’s all okay. She is alive and well. He kisses her on the cheek and says good-bye.

Rafa asks Joel if there is any news. Rafa says nothing yet. Luz is so worried. Joel asks if he has heard about Romina. That she was involved in a horrific car accident. Rafa says so that is why Emiliano went to Mexico. He calls Camila and asks if Romina is okay. Camila says she is doing better. They are giving her medicine so that she can get into a car. Rafa asks how she is doing? Fine replies Camila. Rafa tells her that if she needs anything all she has to do is call him. I’m fine replies Camila. Take care of your girlfriend. Luz comes rushing in and says there was a sighting.

Eugenio goes home and asks Gabe if he realizes that his wedding is in a couple of days. Do you need any help? No everything is under control replies Gabe. PJC will marry us and we will have a little party. Eugenio says who would have thought that coming here we would both have fallen in love with 2 women from the same family. To bad that your story did not have a happy ending says Gabe. Well I’m glad that yours will be replies Eugenio.

Romina tells Camila she doesn’t know if she can get into the car for the ride home. Camila tells her that the medicine the doctor gave her will make her sleep all the way home. I’m sleepy, but I’m also so scared replies Romina. Camila says the best way to defeat fear is to confront it. Romina tells Camila that she has been really bad. Do you think what happened to me was a punishment? You have made bad decisions, but your not bad replies Camila. I have seen you suffer so much. I don’t know why this happen to you, but what I know is that you are getting another chance. And only you know what you’re going to do with it. Romina asks Camila to show her how to be good.

German says a second chance. If life gives me the opportunity, I will fight for both of them. Romina, I hope that there is a future between the two of us.

Madeliene, PJC and Rufi talk about Carloca. Madeliene says Carloca deserves jail. Rufi agrees, but it hurts her. Carloca must be sick in the head to have done so many bad things. PJC says she not sick in the head, but in her soul. And has been for many years. Madeleine agrees with PJC and says she does not want her granddaughter anywhere near Carloca. So that is why she is going to ask Gabe and Paloma to go to Paris and live at her house. Are you going with them asks Rufi. I would love to replies Madeleine. But no. I don’t want to live with newlyweds. PJC says Gabe wants to travel the world with Paloma and having a house in Paris will benefit them.

Anamar asks Emiliano what he is going to do with the baby? He tells her that he’s still getting divorced, but will not fight for the baby. If Romina doesn’t take care of the baby then he will see what he can do. Anamar asks if he thinks that Romina will now have maternal instincts now that she had the accident? I don’t know replies Emiliano. She has enough stress now after the accident. I am not going to give her anymore. Anamar says that people don’t change. Emiliano disagrees. Romina did bad things because she was not happy with herself. She made bad choices, but is not a bad person. I think deep down is a pretty decent person.

The doctor is giving Carloca more stimulation tests on her legs. I don’t feel anything says Carloca. The doctor says your case is very strange. Tests/scans taken show nothing is wrong internally. It could be that you have a lot of swelling and when that goes down you will have movement. Carloca wants to know how much longer she will be at the hospital before she has to go to jail. The max another week replies the doctor. Carloca asks the doctor to do everything he can to get her better. I don’t want to leave until it’s done. I have money. I can pay you very well. The doctor says it’s not about money. I will do what I can. Eugenio walks in and says you think you have money? Carloca reminds Eugenio that she has been the administrator of Paloma’s money and has made a lot of money. Eugenio says let me tell you some bad news. Paloma will get her inheritance and any investments you made have been confiscated. (I think that is what he said. I have never heard that word and have no idea how to spell it to look it up. Help me with this please) What asks Carloca.

Orlando tells Emiliano that he is divorcing Camila. That is what she wants. Orlando says forced love never works out. I realize I should never have tried to pull her away from Rafa. So this is my punishment. I want her to be happy even if it’ not at my side. Emiliano says to bad all divorces are not this civilized. He asks Orlando what he is going to do about Houston. I’m going replies Orlando. I leave tomorrow.

Carloca says I have my own money. Eugenio says that money you made was Paloma’s inheritance money that you used. I am going to fight for my money says Carloca. It is mine! Eugenio reminds her that she doesn’t need money in prison. Money is always needed. Even in prison say Carloca. Eugenio shakes his head. You could have had everything. Not just money. I offered you my love. My help even if you were found guilty. But you didn’t care about that. What you wanted in exchange for all that was to much for me replies Carloca. It was too much because I was significant to you like you were to me replies Eugenio. You are going to end up alone. I think that you paid too much for the love of PJC that was not yours. He has never loved you.

Manana: Don’t know. Not many more episodes left. 3 more!!

ENDA Tuesday March 2. Romina just can’t take it anymore, and she flips out.

Repeats: Romina tells Camila the baby didn’t live up to the advertising. Turns out, he just cried all the time and needed medicine, when what she ordered was the man-trapping silent cute accessory model. So, she sent him back for a refund. Cami goes ape. She is NOT going to let her nieto be abandoned in an orphanage! Where is he? Romina gripes at her mother for yelling at her. She’s the one who needs some attention here; it nearly broke her heart to leave him, she says. Nice try, Romeany, we all know you don’t have a heart. Cami says she will do whatever it takes to get him back and she’ll adopt him herself if she has to. Now WHERE IS HE?

New: Emiliano visits Germán at the jail. Germy begs him to back up his story and get him out of jail. No can do, says Emo. Emiliano won’t perjure himself and Germs is guilty, so suck it up and do the time, buddy. Emiliano also blames Germy for Alonso’s death, since it may have been prevented if Germs had told people about the will changes. Germán still asks for help. Aren’t they friends? “I thought we were friends. But you proved you are no friend. You and Romina were well suited; you both only think of yourselves.” With tears streaming down his face, Germy asks Emiliano to look out for Bernardito. Emo says of course he will.

Camila returns home, where Romina is still crying on the sofa, and reports that the orphanage office was closed, but she’s going back first thing in the morning to see about getting Bernie back. Romina sobs that she just couldn’t handle it when the nurse told her she had to take care of him, so she thought it was best to give him away. Cami is livid. “Most mothers have times when they think they can’t handle it. But they try, and they learn. You’d better pray that Bernie is safe and sound, because if he isn’t…”

Rafa and Luz are at the police station, getting the report that there’s been no luck in finding Xochitl. Rafa tries to get Luz to go home and rest, since there’s nothing they can do. People in telenovelas never seem to try very hard to find missing people. Have they never heard of the old recruit-everyone-you-can-find-to-help-search technique? Emiliano comes out from the jail and asks what they’re doing there.

Gabriel and Paloma arrive at the hospital and Rufi and Eugenio give them the report: Carlota is out of surgery, but they won’t know for 24 hours what the prognosis is. Eugenio has reported everything to the police. Paloma decides to go to the chapel to pray for Auntie Maim, even though she doesn’t deserve it, and Rufi goes with her.

Finally Rafa and Luz have a flier about the missing kidlet, and Emo offers to make copies of it and distribute it and get his soccer team to help.

Romina tosses and turns in bed, dreaming about her son crying that his mother abandoned him and doesn’t love him. She startles awake, panting, “No!”

Repeating montage of scenes: PJC looking pensive. Carlota unconscious with monitors beeping. Eugenio at home, looking worried and thinking hard.

The next morning, Camila wears an ugly shirt that doesn’t fit and says she’s going to get Bernie. Romina, sitting sadly in front of her untouched breakfast, asks if she may come, too. Those nightmares must have really affected her, because she says she wants to bring the baby home, but she is afraid. Can she be redeemed so easily? They head out.

Rufi is in church, praying. She says she’s lived for so long with an angel and a devil, with love and hate, but she knows light always overcomes the darkness in the end. She prays for Carlota.

Paloma, Madeleine, and Cris eat breakfast. Cris feels sorry for Rufi, because she loved Carlota despite her awfulness, and it’s so hard on her to discover just how bad La Loca is. Madeleine, echoing the audience, says death would have been too good for Crueloca. She needs to suffer a lot more first. Cris doesn’t approve of that judgmental attitude. “Well, it’s true,” says Mad. “Do you think Auntie Maim will leave us alone, now that the truth has been discovered?” asks Paloma. “Yes, I do. She will never hurt anyone again,” says Cris. “For sure,” says Madeleine. The music disagrees.

Gabriel gives the wedding invitations to a messenger to deliver. As soon as the messenger leaves, Gabriel has severe pains and staggers over to the cabinet for his medicine. (Dude! Pocket!) He collapses to the floor. He had better not die tonight. I don’t have my jumbo box of tissues on hand.

Carlota is still asleep, and her room is guarded. However, the guards do not accompany the nurse inside to check on her. Carlota grabs the nurse’s wrist.

Paloma takes flowers to Macarena’s grave and sobs about how much Cruelota robbed them of.

The nurse brings the doctor in to look at Carlota. The doctor somehow thinks she merits her own personal nurse at all times.

Romina and Camila ask the orphanage director to give the baby back. The lady is not pleased with the situation. Romina blames her little baby-abandonment oopsie on post-partum depression. Also, her husband abandoned her, and the baby is sick. So, you know, who wouldn’t hand the kid over to a policeman for a break? Orphanage lady is not inclined to give the kid back to a mother with obvious mental issues, but Camila says she’ll take charge. She begs, please please please.

Eugenio gives his evidence of Carlota’s evil deeds to the police guy. Policeman says as soon as Carlota can be released from the hospital, they’ll put her in prison and begin the trial. She’ll probably never get out. By the way, her lawyer Germy is also in jail, for fraud. “I’m not surprised,” says Don E.

Luz trudges around town, handing out fliers and asking about Xochitl and the boozy abuser. The boozy abuser, wearing a clever disguise of cowboy hat and neckerchief, has Xochi hidden in a flower cart.

Crueloca opens her eyes and asks what happened. “You fell over the stair railing and you’re badly hurt,” says the doc. “I have to get out of here,” says Cruel. “Nope,” says the doc. Cruel remembers her awesome flip over the railing in front of the awestruck crowd. 9.3 from the Russian judge; big deduction on the landing. Would have liked to see more disfigurement. The doctor stabs Carlota all over to check her nerves. She can’t feel anything in her legs, and she can’t move her feet. La Loca panics.

PJC finds Rufi in the hospital lobby, waiting for news. Cris feels that maybe he could have somehow prevented some of the deaths, at least Mac’s. Rufi laments that Carlota was so smart, she could have done amazing things if she had chosen good instead of evil. Eugenio shows up, and the doctor tells them all that Cruel is out of danger but is paralyzed.

Carlota frantically tries to move her legs. Out in the lobby, everyone seemed shocked and wonders how Carlota will overcome this setback. People! We do not want her to overcome it! Rufi for some reason wants to see the crazy old witch, but the doc says she wants to talk with Cris.

Gabriel apparently recovered. He and Paloma are helping search for Xochi. Some young girls offer to help.

Camila and Romina have Bernie at home. Romina cries and says she doesn’t think she’ll be a good mother. Cami assures her she can learn. Romina actually holds the baby and seems inclined to change. She agrees the kiddo will live there with Camila. Cami tells her not to mention a word of the abandonment to anyone, because if Emiliano finds out he could take Bernie away.

Paloma and Gabriel offer to go to Pachuca and continue asking about Xochi there. Emo and Chava try to reassure Luz that she’s not a terrible mother.

The police are stopping cars leaving town and searching them. The boozy abuser rearranges the foliage on his bicycle flower cart and evades the checkpoint.

Cris asks Cruel why she killed Mac and tried to kill Paloma. “Because that is how I could hurt you the most,” says Crueloca. She opens her eyes and says, “You’re a priest again?” which makes no sense because she already knew that. Well, I guess they haven’t chatted since he led the mass and she had a hissy fit in the choir loft. They didn’t exactly have time for socializing as she plunged to the floor. Cris tells her she will never be able to hurt anyone again, because she’s going to prison and she’ll never get out. “I’ve lived in a prison since I met you. Bars won’t stop me,” says La Loca. “We’re all leaving and getting far away from you,” says Cris. “Wherever you are, I will find you,” says Cruel. Maggie’s bassos let us know how they feel.

Gabriel has apparently talked to Don E. He tells Paloma her auntie is paralyzed.

The nurse tells Cruel that she’s being guarded. Also, Rufi wants to see her. Well, Cruel refuses to see Rufi. She wants to see Eugenio. Make it happen! The nurse is unruffled by her threats.

Natalia and Ivonne catch Rodolfo up on the latest drama. He’s looking pretty perky.

Eugenio visits Carlota:
C: I need my lawyer here.
E: I am no longer your lawyer. Don’t count on me.
C: Weren’t you in love with me?
E: Yes, but I can’t defend someone who could murder, someone who mocks my feelings and abuses my trust.
C: Give me another chance. I assure you I am repentant.
E: Do you really think I would believe you?
C: If you have any feeling left for me, think what we could do together. I would live dedicated to you.
E (flabbergasted): Your “love” for Cristóbal led you to lie, deceive, and kill. You destroy everything you touch. I actually did see something in you. Behind your hard, controlling shell, I saw a woman who was lonely and needed love. A vulnerable woman with a hard mask to hide her weakness.
C: I am not weak.
E: Yes, you are weak. Your intelligence is undeniable, but in your heart there is nothing but hate.
C: Help me. I’ll give you whatever you want if you get me out of here.
E: I don’t want anything. In the trial, I’ll be in charge of prosecuting you.
Carlota is not happy.

Romina sits on a bed, thinking that even though she wants to, she can’t feel anything for her baby. Why is it that others can, and she can’t? No one has ever loved her, except her mother. She cries and writes a note asking her mother to forgive her, but she can’t go on like this.

PJC has finished his communion rounds at the hospital and finds Rufi still sitting in the lobby, upset because Carlota won’t see her. She’s distraught because she was taught to be loyal to the patrones, and she promised the parents that she would take care of Macarena and Carlota, and she has failed. Cris assures her that she did everything possible, and the choices Carlota made are not her fault. Plus, she did a great job with Paloma. Rufi is sad because Paloma won’t need her anymore, but Cris says Paloma wants her, and that’s even better. He says Rufi is part of his family, like the adored auntie he never had. They hug. Awwww.

Camila goes home, and the nurse gives her the letter from Romina:

Mom, I can’t take anymore. I can’t stay here. I know you won’t approve, but there’s nothing else I can do. I can’t love Bernardo even though he is my son, probably because he is not a child of love, but of a moment of passion. My life in Real del Monte has no meaning without Emiliano’s love, so I am leaving. Please, take care of my son, and love him as if you were his mother. I’m sure you will do it much better than I would. Finally, although you don’t believe it, I love you, and having you is the best thing that has happened in my life. Don’t forget me. I love you. Romina.

Romina drives down the highway crying, and Camila sobs. “You can’t do the same thing your father did, Romina! Not you!”

Romina recovers fast, and makes eyes at a young man who is passing her. He flirts back. They continue their dangerous game, smiling at each other and passing each other at high speed in no-passing zones with blind curves, hardly watching the road. So, obviously, Romina eventually swerves to avoid an oncoming truck and her car rolls over and stops upside down.

En Nombre del Odio Monday, March 1, 2010: Purple Rain

Before we start, I’d like to thank all of you commenters for your wonderful words of support and encouragement. You make recapping rewarding – it’s such a delight to know that there’s someone out there actually reading our stuff and that our humble efforts are kindly received.

Friday: Eugenio, asking Paloma to go see Carlota, pleads Do it for me. Paloma says okay, but it’s going to be the last time I ever talk to her. Gabriel offers to go with her, but she says no, it must be something that concerns just the two of them, so she’ll go alone. Where are the bassos when we need them? Carlota is sitting in front of the mirror with her scarf thingy on (will we ever find out what’s up with that?) when her phones rings. Eugenio tells her Paloma is coming. Carlota hangs up and smiles. Everything happens just the way I want it to. She fingers her scarf some more.

It’s been 34 weeks, or at least this is the 34th Monday in picturesque but tortured Real del Monte. We’re in the final stretch, so we know justice and true love will prevail over evil this week, and we can’t wait to see exactly how it will happen. Let’s find out.

Diana shows up at Rafa’s door. He says he thought Em took care of her situation. She said yes, but she just wants a minute, the taxi is waiting. She says she realizes what a good man he is (a bit late, notes Rafa ruefully) and she made a lot of mistakes. If she had the whole thing to do over, she’d do differently. She just wants to say that now she appreciates him.

He says I was never good enough for you, and we get a few flashbacks of her foolish and selfish behavior. She takes his hand and says she never learned to love in the way he did, but she did love him. Perdoname. I thought you would always love me no matter what. I hope you find happiness. Weeping, she pecks him on the cheek and leaves.

Luz is pushing her little girl on a swing in the park when a kid comes up and asks her for 5 pesos to buy some tacos. She says you might give the money to somebody else; I’ll buy them for you. She leaves the Xochi on the swing, and walks the boy away to the taco stand.

Right now, she and Diana are vying for the gold in the Really Bad Judgment event.

She buys the tacos and when she turns back, the swing seat is swaying, empty. Luz starts calling for Xochi.

Gabriel walks Paloma up to Carlota’s door. Paloma is weirded out by the men standing outside – Gabriel doesn’t know who they are. Meantime, Romina arrives at her mother’s house and watches from across the street.

Paloma doesn’t want to go in, but Gabriel says if it weren’t important, Eugenio wouldn’t have insisted.
Carlota, in the lace scarf, goes to answer the door. We see that the furniture has been draped with cloths. (Who owns that many big cloths? Maybe the family inherited a truckload of sheets from dear dead dad?) Thank you for coming, says Carlota. Paloma says I wouldn’t have if Eugenio hadn’t asked me.

Paloma walks in slowly, her eyes switching back and forth, creeped out by the covered furniture. She doesn’t notice Carlota locking the front door. Tell me whatever you want to quickly, says Paloma, because I don’t want to be here.

As Gabriel walks past Romina’s door, she pops out. (Quibble: Romina lives across the street – what is he doing walking down the sidewalk on her side?) Smiling, she says why did you humiliate me the other day? Want to come in? I’m alone. We could have fun. No thanks, says Gabe. Have a nice day.

The nurse pops out the door and tells Romina that the baby needs feeding. Romina says what am I paying you for? Hop to it!

Carlota has taken Paloma by the arm and is slowly walking her up the stairs, saying that Macarena was her mother, but she wishes she had been, and that Paloma would have been her child and Chris’s.

Paloma, very weirded out by the trip up the stairs and Carlota’s comments, pulls her arm away and says I don’t know where you’re going with this, but please just spit it out. Carlota takes her hand and says come, don’t be nervous.

Paloma balks again. Carlota says Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you. She takes Paloma’s arm again and leads her further up the stairs.

AHHHHHHH. My bassos! Where have you been? Smoke break?

Gabe runs into Rufi in the park – she’s been to see the police to see if there’s any news about Dr. B. Gabe says he’s fine. Rufi says how do you know? He waves that off. Rufi asks where Paloma is, at the hotel? And Gabe tells her she’s at Carlota’s, Carlota had something to tell her. Rufi is apprehensive. She doesn’t think Paloma should be alone with Carlota, or Chris either.

Carlota has Paloma upstairs now and says Your mother and I talked so much in this room. Paloma is huge-eyed like a kid in a haunted house. She tries to break away again, but Carlota is all persuasive arms. Then she gives Paloma a final shove into her office, closes the door behind her and snarls You’re going to listen to me whether you want to or not.

What are you doing? says Paloma. Carlota says I want you to listen to me up until the last moment, and then we’re going to take a little walk in the house. Carlota thoughtbubbles about pushing Paloma down the stairs.

Carlota says you never appreciated how much I cared for you, you were all about Macarena. Paloma says she was my mother and she always treated me lovingly. Paloma tries to make for the door, but Carlota shoves her to the floor.

If you’d loved me, things would be very different. You’re going to pay! You’re never going to be happy! Paloma says my mother didn’t lie to me. You fell in love with a man who didn’t love you back and now you’re alone and bitter. You hate the whole world.

Maybe you’re right, says Carlota. That’s why I had to get rid of your beloved Inaki. To keep you with me, I had to put a little belladonna in his drink. You did that to keep me here? says Paloma, whose hair has come loose. Yes, says Carlota, though I was sorry to see you so heartbroken about it.

You’re sick, says Paloma, pushing her away. You’re crazy. She runs out of Carlota’s office, Carlota in hot pursuit. Just like Arcadia, Alonso and Dr. Bermudez, says Carlota, confessing everything, which is, as we know, de rigueur for criminals in TV Land who are about to murder somebody.

Dr Bermudez? says Paloma, horrified.

It’s sunny and peaceful outside the house. It’s amazing how in Real del Monte there is never ominous thunder and lightening, or bats flying out of windows. Its walls are always serene, no matter what goes on behind them, its streets charming and leafy, its cafes cheerful.

Don E has arrived and asks the men if Paloma has come out yet. Nope. He says he doesn’t think Carlota will hurt her, but they need to keep their eyes peeled just in case. He’ll wait with them for Paloma to come out.

Rafa has come to the park and Luz is having a meltdown. Rafa figures the little boy wanting tacos was probably a distraction set up by the bad guy so he could take the little girl. He says let’s go to the police. She talks him into going directly to the guy’s home, though he thinks it’s very risky.

Camila is in tears, and Monica is telling her it was hard, but she did the right thing. Camila says it’s not surprising, as Angelica was in love with Orlando all along and valiantly tried to squash her feelings down. I thought I was in love with him, but I wasn’t really and didn’t learn to be. I blew it again.

At this juncture, repentant Diana shows up.

German gets a call telling him that they’re caught – apparently the judge wasn’t as corrupt as they thought. The other guys are going to pin it on German, as he’s their lawyer. German says Hold it! We’re all going down together! Tough luck, says the guy on the other end, you’re on your own.

Rufi, Gabe in tow, has come to get Chris at the church. She tells him that Paloma is alone with Carlota. Chris is scared for her and they all rush off.

Paloma is horrified, crying. You’re totally insane, she says. Carlota shoves her. You’re not going to leave me alone, she says menacingly.

German calls Romina, who tries to blow him off. He says listen to me. I have to leave Real del Monte. Come away with me! We could start a new life, anywhere. Just us and the baby!

What have you gotten yourself into? Says Romina, suspicious. Olvidalo. She hangs up. He says to himself I wanted to do things the right way, but you didn’t want to. He grabs his laptop and leaves the apartment.

Diana says to Camila We were good friends once. I have to leave town because of Samuel. We all will do things we’d never imagine just to feel loved. Camila says I know better than ever what you mean.

Diana says she hopes Rafa will be happy with Luz or whoever. She tells Camila she’s saying goodbye now. She says she hopes Camila will be happy and Camila says she hopes Diana will be too. Diana asks for a hug for old time’s sake. They hug, both sad about their lives.

The baby is crying and Romina goes to his cribside and tells him to knock it off. She wonders why she hired two stupid nurses who can’t even get him to stop crying. She starts throwing things into an overnight bag.

Chris, Rufi and Gabriel come running up to the house. They ask Don E if Paloma is alone in there. He says yes, but he’s sure Carlota won’t harm her. Rufi says she’s nuts! Paloma is in danger!

Inside, Carlota has Paloma by the hair and is holding her right in the spot on the landing that Macarena was pushed from. You were all against me, you were against me, so you deserve to die.

Makes sense to me. I guess I’ve been watching this show too long.

What did you do to my mother? says Paloma, struggling mightily. Carlota says she went against me and even was going to marry Chris. See? This is her engagement ring I have on!

You killed her! No, says Carlota, I just pushed her against the glass. Flashback of Macarena falling through the glass. I got lucky and she died without saying a word about it.

Paloma freaks out and grabs Carlota, gets the upper hand, and shrieks at her while Carlota’s back is arched over the rail. Push her, Paloma! Do it!

But Paloma is too good to push Carlota over the edge, she just flees down the stairs instead. Carlota rushes after her and grabs her by the hair and drags her back up to the landing. Now that Chris knows you’re his daughter, nothing would hurt him worse than your death. I’ll get my revenge.

Paloma runs partway down the stairs and inexplicably stops. She’s screaming. Chris tries to get in the front door.

Big fight on the stairs. Carlota says I’ve hated all your life, from the minute you were born.

Chris kicks down the door. The three rush in and see Paloma and Carlota on the stairs.

Die, says Carlota through clenched teeth, and she goes to give Paloma a shove.

But Paloma squats down on the stairs to duck the push, and oopsies! there goes Carlota over the handrail in slo mo. We linger on each horrified, wide-eyed face. And, finally, we get to see Carlota, out cold on the floor in the same spot her sister lay in a pool of blood. Don E licks his lips nervously, as well he should.

Ad break.

And now Gabe is up on the stairs with hysterical Paloma who says She killed everybody! She killed Inaki, Arcadia, Alonso and my mother! Macarena? Says Chris.

It wasn’t an accident! Says Paloma. She pushed her through the glass because you were going to get married!

It occurs to Rufi to wonder if Carlota is dead. Chris kneels beside her, but says he can’t tell. Repent, Rufi tells her. Repent so God will forgive you.

Luz and Rafi are at the mean guy’s house, but so sign of him or the little girl. Rafi says he’s probably fled Real del Monte. They decide to go to the police.

The paramedics are at Carlota’s house. Carlota is on a stretcher with a neck support. Don E is standing there with his arms folded. Chris gives her a blessing I guess because it’s the Right Thing to Do. Closeup of her eyes, but we can’t tell if she’s conscious or not.

Paloma sobs that Carlota has killed all the people that she loved. Gabe tells her that’s all ended now. Paloma says And she killed Dr Bermudez! Don E says he’s alive. Chris explains that Carlota shot him because he was going to take Paloma away, but Don E whisked him away into Natalia’s care, and had to keep him secreted away for witness protection.

Gabe says So you knew Carlota did that, and yet you asked Paloma to come here to see her? Don E, arms still crossed, says Yes. Sorry. I thought she still had some small spark of goodness in her. I’m an idiot. I was right outside, and I never suspected anything like this was going on. He looks perplexed and annoyed like a person might when surveying the damage from a little fender bender. This is a telenovela – shouldn’t he be agonizing? Weeping? On his knees?

Chris says She probably went after Paloma because she knew nothing would hurt me more. Yes, says Paloma. Chris says if it weren’t for Rufi…..

Rufi says to Paloma All this time we were living with a killer. I sensed something like that, but I just couldn’t believe it.

Chris says I think this is the end of her evil. (He doesn’t know we have 5 days to go.)

Camila and Monica are walking to work, and Camila tells her to take some time today to get flowers for her wedding. Monica leaves and here comes Em who says he’s been trying to get hold of Romina, but she’s not answering her cell. Does Camila know anything? No. She says she wishes he was the real daddy. He says I know.

Meche runs up – Have you heard the gossip? They’re saying Carlota had an accident just like her sister!

Orlando is on the phone with Angie – he tells her he’s not living with Camila any more. She says Did you tell her? He says yes, but it’s more than that, it turns out that she’s still in love with Rafa. We’re just married on paper now. It’s over.

We’re in Pacheca now, outside the police station. Romina comes up with the baby in what looks like a giant picnic basket. She asks a policeman if he can hold the basket for a second while she parks her car. He says But…umm.. okay.

As she walks away, she looks like she’s going to cry, almost stops, then keeps going.

German is driving along and suddenly the police are behind him with their sirens on. He keeps driving, looking frantically in his rear view mirror.

Gabe has brought Paloma back to her hotel room. How are you feeling? he asks. (This is the same stupid question TV reporters ask when they shove a microphone in the face of some person who’s just been through some horrific, life-altering disaster. The person never says How the #&@ do you think I’m feeling? And neither does Paloma the Sainted.) She says What kind of person would kill her own sister, her own niece? Gabe said she couldn’t love you the way you deserved because of what you represented. And here she was running around pretending to be so upright and moral.

Paloma tells him she wants to go to the hospital to find out if she’s dead or alive. She asks him for a hug.

The police are still after German, right on his bumper. One police car blocks his, and the officers stream out, guns drawn. Don’t shoot! he says. They arrest him for extortion.

Diana is about to get on the bus when Inez runs up. Diana explains about what happened and how Inez was right about not signing away her house. Inez wishes she’d been home when it all happened, but Diana says it’s better this way. She has a job waiting for her, and it’s best for her relationship with Emiliano.

Inez says I’m sure Juancho could have found you a job. Diana says this way is the best. You’re the best friend I ever had. They hug and cry.

Anamar has chased Em down at the hotel. She tells him German was trying to call him and is at the police station. German is asking him to come, he’s desperate, he’s asking in the name of the friendship they once had. We see Gabe sit down in a lobby chair to wait for Paloma to take her shower.

Em spots him. Anamar follows his gaze and says He came with Paloma. Em says Paloma is here?

Luz and Rafa have arrived at the police station. They explain to the officer about how they know who it was. He tells them there’s a child exploitation ring, and maybe this will be their undoing.

In her hotel room, Paloma is still weepy, but looks ready to step out. There’s a knock at the door and it’s Em. He says What happened? She throws her arms around him and sobs. (The front desk gave out her room number? Tsk.)

Little Bernardo has been brought by the police to a child shelter. They point out that there were extra diapers and food, and medicine for cystic fibrosis in the basket with the baby.

Now Paloma is sitting on her hotel bed while Em marvels about Carlota being a killer. Obviously she has told him the whole story (Belladonna and Old Lace). Paloma says she remembers when Romina suggested that Carlota had killed Inaki, but she didn’t believe her. Em realizes when Inaki said he had a surprise, it must’ve been about the will. And Paloma realizes that Carlota had messed in Em’s life, but thank goodness she saw to it that he married Romina, or else he would have been dead too.

Em, apparently thinking that she isn’t in a state of shock over being almost murdered, seeing her evil aunt fall to her maybe death, and finding out about all her loved ones having been slain, brings up what to him is the most important lesson of the day. He says Do you realize that nothing stands between us now? Paloma says Let’s not talk about that. Our paths have already diverged. When I felt death so near, I realized I’d made the right decision, to marry Gabriel.

(Is that what she was thinking when Carlota was holding her by the hair, about to toss her over the handrail? “Gosh, you know, marrying Gabe is a good idea! Maybe I’ll go for that white dress after all.”)

Em says he will respect that, even though he wishes their fates had been different. She weeps and anguishes.

Camila comes home and finds Romina sitting on the floor, drinking, with tears streaming down her face. Camila tells her she needs to see to her baby. Romina says maybe he’ll have a better mother, an adoptive one.

Romina says I took him to an orphanage. Camila is impactada and says if you think that will fix his suffering, well, it’s just begun. Camila yells at her, but Romina says I couldn’t take the crying, the illness, the medications. Camila says tell me where he is.

Camila unleashes a torrent of anguish on Romina and says she will adopt him herself. Where is he?

Avances: No avances! I was hoping we’d see Carlota’s eyelids flutter. Well, instead of that here’s a pop quiz. No peeking!

En Nombre del Amor, February 25, 2010--An Abundance of Broken Records

Paloma and Rufi are at a fancy restaurant discussing Carlota. Pal can’t believe Rufi’s assertion that Carlota had a copy made of Inaki’s ring (duh, wasn’t she just yelling at Carlota the other day for all the bad things she’s done to her?). Pal mentions that Rufi isn’t the only one who doubts Carlota--Eugenio was asking her where Carlota was the day Alonso was killed. Pal thinks Carlota was in Mexico City, so Rufi points out that that’s just what Carlota says, who knows where she really was. Pal asks Rufi if she thinks Carlota had something to do with Alonso’s death. Yes, Rufi replies.

Eugenio talks with Gabriel about how Carlota could have used belladonna to kill Inaki--in small doses it’s a muscle relaxant, but too much and it can cause death and can look like a heart attack. Gabe concludes that Carlota could have killed Inaki with belladonna since his death was supposedly caused by a heart attack. Eugenio says he ordered an investigation to see if Carlota buys herbs in Pachuca and to find out what hospital she was in when Alonso died. Euge thinks there’s something strange about Alonso killing himself the way he did--there’s something more going on here and he’s going to find out what.

Cris and Madeleine have joined Rufi and Pal. Pal announces her plans to marry Gabe in a couple weeks. Rufi looks shocked and asks Pal if she’s sure--Pal says “of course”. She and Gabe want Cris to marry them. They’re going to live in Mexico City, so Maddy says she and Rufi will move there and live together to be near them. Cris isn’t sure where he’ll end up now that he’s a priest again, but he knows he doesn’t want to be stuck in Real del Monte near Crazylota.

Speaking of Her Craziness, she’s at home on the stairs hearing voices saying “Killer, killer!” She yells that she’s not a murderer, she didn’t kill them--you made me do it!

A man arrives at Diana’s house and tells her that her house is being seized and she has to leave today. She cries and pleads while the movers come in and start taking the furniture out.

Camila is crying too--she’s walking down the street and runs into Rafael. She’s upset about Romina (Broken Record #1) and doesn’t understand how this could be happening with Romi and her grandson. Rafa hugs her and says he’ll always be there for her if she needs him.

Angelica is seeing Orlando off. She wants him to find someone to take her place there (Houston) and in RdM--she betrayed her friend Camila and she can’t work for him anymore. Orly seems to think it’s no big deal (Broken Record #2) if Cami doesn’t know what happened, as it was just one night. Ange is still ashamed because she felt a lot of love for him, and she wishes she had been loved in return (Broken Record #3).

Emiliano states his case to his lawyer about getting custody of Bernardo because Romi is a terrible mother and wants to put the baby up for adoption. Just then Cami calls and asks Emil to give her a few days--she and Romi are bringing the baby home and she wants to see if that will result in a love connection between mother and child. Emil agrees, but if Romi doesn’t get with the program, he’s going to initiate his petition for custody.

Diana sits outside her house amidst all the furniture and sobs “this can’t be happening to me, it’s the worst humiliation ever, I don’t deserve this” (Broken Record #4). A couple of ladies walk by and laugh at her and she yells at them to leave while crying some more.

Diana tries phoning Ines but she isn’t home.

Natalia and Yvonne discuss the situation with Dr. B.--he’s doing ok but still hasn’t regained consciousness. Nat is anxious for him to wake up and recover so they can prove Carlota was responsible. Yvonne thinks Nat is an angel for taking care of Dr. B. despite the threat of the Purple Menace discovering them. Nat replies that Eugenio is protecting her, and Dr. B. is a witness protected by the law in that he can prove that Carlota is a killer.

Diana looks for Emil at his hotel but he’s not there. She runs into Anamar in the lobby and asks her to tell Emil that she was kicked out of her house and doesn’t have anywhere to go, boo-hoo-hoo.

Cris is back in his priestly duds, getting ready to give his first mass since being reinstated. He prays and thanks God for this new opportunity, for bringing him his daughter and mother. He seems to refer to the “Footprints” poem--at one time he felt God had abandoned him, but when he looked back he saw footprints so he knew that God was carrying him. Padre Benito comes in and Cris asks if he’s sure that he should give the mass. Padre B. answers yes, and trust in the good hearts of the townspeople.

Anamar and Emil meet up outside the church to attend the mass. She informs Emil about Di’s situation and that she let Di stay in her room. He says he won’t abandon her but he’s still ticked off at her.

Rafa tells Joel about his breakup with Luz and that he still loves Camila.

At the church, the only parishioners present are Rufi, Gabe, Pal, Emil and Anamar. Oh, and Carlota, who gloats and skulks in the back while thinking to herself that she succeeded in making everyone in town realize that Cris is not a worthy priest and that they shouldn’t follow him. Padres Benito, Mateo and Juan Cristobal come out for the mass. When Cris sees that almost no one is there, he starts to say something to Benito (as though he thinks they’re making a mistake in letting him return), but Benito stops him and tells him to have faith. Then, as Cris is about to begin, the whole town suddenly files in carrying candles. Carlota is up in the balcony (?? not sure if that’s the correct term . . . is it the choir loft?) thinking “Que the heck? Have these people lost their minds?” Looks like she’s starting to get nervous.

Before Cris starts, Emil asks if he can go up and say a few words. He welcomes Cris back, saying they see him as an example to follow. Some people (Gossip Guy and his wife are looking down guiltily) pointed fingers at you, but if we’re all here today it’s because we believe in you. Gossip Guy gets up and asks to say a few words too; he admits they tattled on Cris and begs for his forgiveness. He and his wife throw themselves at Cris’s feet but Cris says no, don’t kneel, and then welcomes them into God’s house. After they return to their seats, Cris talks about how he was afraid that the townspeople wouldn’t accept him or forgive him. He’s says they’ve shown him the kindness of their hearts and the love which they’re capable of; only one who truly loves can forgive and forget. Everyone stands and claps while Carlota glares at him from the balcony.

At the hospital, Cami asks Romi if she regrets getting married. Romi says no, Emil is the love of my life (Broken Record #5). Romi thinks it’s Pal’s fault that the marriage didn’t work, but Cami doesn’t think so--she believes they still would have ended up like this even if Pal wasn’t in the picture. Romi goes up another notch on the crazymeter as she emphatically states that Emil never would have left her. Then she tries to turn the tables by asking Cami if she regrets marrying Orly. The nurse comes out and says they can take the baby now; Romi volunteers to go get the car and flounces off, leaving Cami to go fetch the baby.

Cris ends the mass, but before everyone leaves, he wants to tell them something very important. Because of the trial they know about his past with Macarena, but what they don’t know is that he has a daughter. Carlota starts to flip out, hissing “Don’t you dare!” The congregation is all atwitter. He asks Pal to come up (in slo-mo) and hopes everyone will accept her as the daughter of a priest, because she was created from the purest love that he lived with a great woman, her mother. Carlota is really mad now and practically has purple smoke streaming out of her ears.

Eugenio is on the phone with Efraín, who reports his findings that the Crazy One regularly bought belladonna at the Pachuca market and that she was at a hospital in Pachuca, not Mexico City like she claimed, where she was admitted to emergency for poisoning. Euge hangs up and says, “Carlota, you’re a murderer. How can I desire a woman like you, how?”

Outside the church, Cris thanks Emil for his little speech. Emil spots Pal with Gabe and says for the millionth time that he thinks he lost her. Cris says something like you never know, life has lots of twists and turns.

Emil goes up to Pal and says he’s happy for her that Cris is her dad. Of course, the conversation soon turns to the same topic as always, their tragically doomed love (Broken Record #6).

Rufi chats with Gabe about the upcoming nuptials and how they’re all going to move to Mexico City. He’s all smiley and happy, and the music is all peppy, which tells me that there’s an anvil nearby, hanging by a thread.

Back to Emil and Pal--oh, do we have to?--and Emil’s mopey “what ifs” and “if onlys” and Pal’s musings on destiny putting an end to their love. Emil hopes she’s happy and that she’s staying with Gabe because it’s what her heart really wants, even though his (Emil's) poor little heart is breaking.

Inside the church, Carlota barges in on Cris and yells at him for revealing that Pal is his daughter and pretends that she’s worried that people will persecute Pal as a result. Cris thinks today proved that Good always wins. He points out that Carlota didn’t get what she wanted because Pal is leaving town and he returned to the church; the truth is out now and there are no more secrets, so there’s nothing tying us together. Not only that, soon I won’t have to see you, because I’m going to ask for a transfer. Carlota responds with "we’ll see about that." Cris asks why doesn’t she just confess everything she has done, his God will forgive her. Carlota insists that she doesn’t need anyone’s forgiveness, especially not God’s, who has been so unfair to her.

Ange cries on the phone to her friend Miriam about her sad love life. She had hoped Orly would say something to her before leaving--that she was important to him, that he loved her. Miriam thinks it was just a one night stand for Orly. Ange laments that she still hasn’t learned her lesson (Broken Record #See above).

At the airport, Orly remembers his makeout session with Ange and thinks maybe if Camila wasn’t in his life, he would go for Ange, but shucks, he’s married. He doesn’t know if he should tell Cami or not because he doesn’t want to lose her.

Eugenio is waiting for Carlota outside her house when she arrives home (she claims she was out for a walk and wasn’t at Cris’s mass); he needs to speak with her.

Cami asks Romi if she wants to hold the baby, but of course she doesn’t want to. She whines at her mom to give her time and not to lecture her. After Romi leaves the room, Cami tells the baby that his mother will grow to love him a lot. Huh? Where is she getting that from?

Eugenio tells Carlota that he’s in love and is obsessed with her.

Emil complains to Anamar about Pal getting married so soon. He thinks maybe he’ll leave town, but Anamar says he doesn’t need to since Pal and Gabe already plan to move to the capital. She suggests that they go study abroad or something, that she can be a new opportunity in his life (Broken Record #Whatever, I’ve lost count).

Carlota is surprised by Eugenio’s confession. Well, you’re going to be even more surprised by what I have to tell you--I know all about the belladonna you used to kill Inaki, the hospital you were at in Pachuca just a few blocks from where Alonso was killed, the will that you altered, and your attempt to kill Dr. B. But I'm willing to help you if you repent and are prepared to pay for all the harm you have done. Carlota refuses and insists that she’s a good woman incapable of hurting anyone (Broken Record #The Mother of All Broken Records). Euge yells at her to put a cork in it--someone has to put a stop to your evilness, and that person, in spite of loving you, is me. Confess the truth, or else I will.

ENDA, February 24, 2010

Luz is getting advice from the social worker on child raising. Xiochi is brought to Luz to take home immediately.

Carloca leaves her house and is paranoid someone is watching her.

In Houston, Orlando and Angelica are having breakfast and he brings up last night. Angelica feels guilty about what happened. Camila is her friend and would never forgive her for what she did. Of course all-I-can-think-about-is-myself Orlando thinks perhaps they shouldn't tell her. Angelica says how can I look her in the face? Maybe you can, but I can't.

Emiliano gets the new goods that Bernandito will be leaving the hospital the day after tomorrow. Then gets the bad news that Romina wants to give him up for adoption.

Carloca goes to visit Eugenio and asks him to forgive her. What for asks Eugenio. For what happened last night. I drank too much. Eugenio says if we made progress last night then I do not accept your apology. Anyway Carloca says she doesn't want him to think ill of her. (To late sister!) Eugenio tells her that in reality I really don't know you well or what you’re capable of. But I don't regret what happened. I enjoyed myself immensely.

Emiliano goes to see Camila looking for Romina. He drops the bomb that she wants to give Bernandito up for adoption and he will not allow it. Neither will I replies Camila. What is going on with that girl? I'll tell you.
1) she's spoiled rotten
2) she's a lying scheming witch
3) she’s obsessed with Emiliano
4) she's manipulative
5) she thinks only of herself.
I can go on, but I'm sure you guys will want to add your opinions on this.
Anyway Emiliano says he's going to look for her and if she sees her first to have Romina call him. Camila asks herself where is Romina's maternal instincts that all mothers have?

Carloca says she was lonely and looking for a friend and a confidant. And having him so close... Eugenio says again that he was happy that it happened. He offers her his friendship and confidence. They toast. Carloca says I really need that. So do I replies Eugenio. He asks her when was the last time she left RDM. The last time I was in Mexico was before my sister died replies Carloca. That was a long time ago says Eugenio. Carloca says that in the past month or so she did go to Pachuca. She wanted to go to the beach with Paloma, but one thing happened after another and the opportunity never presented itself. Eugenio offers to take her to Mexico to show her the sites. Carloca would love to go, but doesn't think the time is right. Eugenio tells her not to worry. He will find the right time for them to go together.

Luz comes home with Xiochi and the place is decorated. Rafa tells Luz he made a reservation at the restaurant so they can all go out and celebrate. Luz says they are going to Pachuca to go shopping all day. Rafa then suggests going with them, but she declines. (I see break-up coming soon with this attitude of hers)

Camila gets a call from Orlando. He tells her he misses her and that they have to talk. Camila says when he gets back they will talk and she wants the whole truth from him. No hiding any secrets. Is that clear?

Romina goes to visit Gabe the babe and wants him to paint her naked and takes off her dress. Being the man that he is of course he looks, but is shocked. Paloma walks up and asks Romina what the hell is she doing? Romina says I didn't know you would be here. I came for Gabe to paint me. I hope you’re not jealous. No, replies Paloma and tells Gabe she'll see him later. He asks her to wait. Romina tells him to let her go. Perhaps his artistic flow will be better. Gabe says you are a pretty woman and can be an inspiration to many artists. But a naked body does not stir my creative juices. Romina gets mad. He tells her to get dressed and turns his back to her. He offers to recommend someone if she wants to be painted naked. Romina lies and says that he offered to paint her. When asks Gabe. Never mind replies Romina. She tells Paloma to be careful. He is not what he appears to be. Paloma says you are the one that doesn't appear to be what you seem. What are you doing? Is it because you know how much I care about him? Romina laughs off Paloma's accusation. Gabe thinks that this conversation should be between them both and leaves. Paloma goes up to Romina and asks her why she hates her so much.

Orlando confesses to Emiliano that he slept with Angelica. Emiliano asks how she is doing. Our relationship right now is very tense replies Orlando. Emiliano thinks that Angelica is in love with him. I know says Orlando. I care for her, but not like I do Camila. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Camila tells Monica that Orlando called her and he seemed strange. Like it was an obligatory phone call. She feels something has changed between them and doesn't know what to do.

Back at Gabe's place:
P: That's enough Romina. I no longer believe in this game your playing that nothing is wrong. That everything is peachy and there are no bad intentions.
R: You think I have bad intentions with Gabe?
P: No with me.
R: Well yes. And I am no longer going to deny it. How do you do it? How do you get these guys to go after you? First Inaki, then Emiliano. And now the painter? What do you do? It's not normal that this happens to someone like you.
P: What do you mean someone like me?
R: Someone so insignificant like you. I don't understand how you get the love of so many men and I don't even get a hello. I am so much better then you. It's just not fair.
P: I don't understand! I don't understand how you can envy my life after all that has happened to me. If life has been unfair to anyone it was with me! Life gave you a mother. Beauty and intelligence.
R: What does that do for me if I don't have a man at my side.
P: Not everything is about having a man at your side.
R: That's what you would say. You have always had them at your side. I don't know how. I don't understand. But they have always been circling around you. Tell me what it is! You must be really good in bed, right?
P: How sad that our friendship from when we were little girls is being broken this way.
R: You broke it when you messed with my man.
P: You always went out with other girls boyfriends at school and said nothing was wrong with that. You also pressured Emiliano to be your boyfriend and don't deny it because I was there. And in the end he did not fall for you, but for me.
R: Just to let you know that makes for a bad friend.
P: A bad friend was you. If you cared for me then you would have accepted that Emiliano and I wanted to be together. But no you just couldn't lose. And now you lost everything. Everything!
R: I curse the day I became your friend. I never should have become friends with the orphan and good for nothing little girl in front of my house. Everything you touch dies.

Rafa tells Joel that he believes Luz will not let him father Xiochi. She only has eyes for her and I believe wants Xiochi to have eyes only for her. Joel thinks he's just jealous. Rafa says I feel like I don't exist anymore. She made me laugh again and pick up my life. But honestly, I don't think we are destined to be a couple.

Back at Gabe's:
P: I prefer to have died then to see so many people I love die. But this is about you and me. If Emiliano had truly loved you, I would gladly have stepped aside.
R: Please! You can't think I believe you. I know that you like to play the victim so that everyone says "Poor Paloma!" How good she is.
P: I have never played that card and if you truly knew me then you would know.
R: You’re right. I don't really know you. I have witnessed so many unhappy surprises with you.
P: And so have I with you. You know what I miss the most? The little girl that I laughed and played with.
R: That was me before you ruined my life. But let me tell you one thing. If I'm not happy then neither will you.
P: You really are like my Tia Carloca.
R: Don't compare me to that woman. I am far from being like her. I am a beautiful woman unlike you. With me they have fun and with you they disappear.
P: Honestly you have no idea how that hurts me you saying that. I hope I'm wrong, but the envy you feel will have you being alone. Alone and unhappy.
R: You’re the one that will be alone.
P: I thought we would be friends forever, but I see that it will not happen. I cared for you very much and will care for you all my life. But I never want to be near you again. Good-bye Romina!

Luz comes across Camila and Monica. She introduces her daughter to them and says she's in the process of adopting her. Congrats replies Camila. Rafa must be happy. Yes, replies Luz. Who would have thought following Rafa would bring me many beautiful things? They part and mean drunken guy that had Xiochi is following behind.

Cristobal gets a visit from the bishop. What is your decision? Cristobal says he wants to be a priest again. But no promotion. He wants to spend more time with his daughter and not have any additional responsibilities.

Eugenio comes home and finds Paloma waiting alone in the apartment. Gabe went out for a minute says Paloma. No worries replies Eugenio. He asks her if she remembers where Carloca was when Alonso disappeared. I think she was here replies Paloma. Eugenio says he talked to Natalia and she mentioned that you told her Carloca was in Mexico getting a check-up. Paloma remembers back to that day talking to Natalia. Yes, I do remember that day. I was worried and she called to say she was in Mexico and wouldn't be back until the next day. Do you remember what hospital asks Eugenio. No. Why asks Paloma. Just remembering your aunt telling me that she hasn't been to Mexico in a while. I recall she did say she went prior to her sister dying. Paloma says this was after. Oh she must have forgotten then replies Eugenio. Does she ever go to Pachuca? Yes, once a month to buy her herbs. She can't find them here replies Paloma. What kind asks Eugenio. I don't know and rattles off a couple of herbs including belladonna. Belladonna asks Eugenio. Yes, so that she can relax and sleep says Paloma. Gabe comes home and asks her how it all went. I'll tell you later she replies. Off they go to paint. Eugenio says to himself how smart Carloca is. Using belladonna.

Padres Mateo and Benito are happy that Cristobal has rejoined the priesthood. He is to give the next mass. Cristobal is scared about the congregation’s reaction. Padre Mateo tells him to have faith. Everything will be okay. Inez comes in and asks Cristobal if he's a priest again. He smiles, she sighs and says how handsome he looks.

Emiliano runs into Romina. He gets onto her for wanting to place Bernandito up for adoption. Romina says you have proven you are not his father and now it's none of your business. Emiliano says in the eyes of the law and in my heart I am his father. If you don't want him then give him to me. Romina says are you crazy? I would never give him to you. Why not asks Emiliano. Because that baby and me are a packaged item replies Romina. Emiliano say if you want to destroy your life then do it. But not his. I will never forgive you for this. Then help me asks Romina. Show me how to be a good mother. Stay at my side. Emiliano pushes her away and says not to touch him. You and I will never be together. The best place for a child is to be with his mother, but if you don't want him then I will fight you for custody. As well as my freedom.

Gabe understands why Paloma is upset. Romina was like a sister to her. Paloma doesn't understand how someone like Romina could be envious of someone like her. They don't see what they have, but want what others do have that they don't replies Gabe. It's just like Carloca. They can't expect that the men they desired wanted someone else. Instead of moving on they became obsessed. Gabe then tells her that Emiliano came to see him to say that he still loves her. Do you want to continue this or do you want to get back with him?

Carloca is walking in the park and thinks she just saw Dr. Bermudez walking by her. She wonders to herself about him when she is called by Inez who frightens her. She asks Inez and the ladies with her if they have heard anything new about Dr. Bermudez. Nothing replies one of the ladies. But you won't believe what happened today. Especially after all that came out about your sister. Inez defends Macarena which annoys Carloca. Carloca asks her what's the big news. Inez informs Carloca that Cristobal is now a priest again. Carloca is outraged. How can the community and the priests quickly forget what Cristobal was accused of? I think the church would be empty when he does mass. Gossip guy and wife walk by and hear this. Carloca goes on her rampage about morals and blah, blah, blah. Things she doesn't have.

Romina is pacing in her apartment and says out loud how much she hates Paloma.

Emiliano is mooning over Paloma. Surprise, surprise.

Paloma tells Gabe she accepts his proposal. He wants to get married in 15 days. She wants to get married in RDM so that her dad can marry them. Gabe is so happy and excited. They hug. Where's the kiss?

Luz is all about Xiochi and not really giving Rafa any attention. She wonders what's up? He wants to know if she still wants to marry him? No, replies Luz. And I think it's time for me to leave RDM.

Camila is getting onto Romina. She has to decide what to do. The baby is coming home tomorrow. Romina says she's just not ready. Camila suggests she stay with her for awhile. Romina says when will you have time to be with my baby? Camila says we both will do it together. Romina says moving in with you would be like admitting failure. Camila says wake up! We are talking about your child. Where is your maternal instincts? I don't know replies Romina. I don't think I have one. I never wanted to be a mother. You need to step up says Camila. Or you can lose the baby. Perhaps its best replies Romina. I'm scared. I don't know what to do. Camila says I'll help you. Okay. You will come with me to the hospital asks Romina. Yes replies Camila.

Rafa thanks Luz for giving him back his life. For bringing in the light. Luz thanks him for changing her life. Because of him she found Xiochi. She is going to miss him. So will I replies Rafa. They agree to be friends.

German is making a shady deal with a man. They talk about paying off a judge.

Rufi and Paloma go to a fancy restaurant to have dinner. They are waiting for Cristobal and Madeleine so that she can tell them all some news. Rufi gives her the fake ring that Carloca had made to exactly like the one Inaki gave her to trick her. Paloma asks Rufi if Carloca is really that evil. Yes, unfortunately replies Rufi. The more lies I uncover, the more I think that she had bad intentions towards Macarena. Paloma says that Eugenio is having doubts about Carloca also. He was asking for Carloca's whereabouts when Alonso died. I told him that she was in Mexico having tests done. Well that is what she said replies Rufi. Who knows. Do you think that she had something to do with Alonso's death asks Paloma. Yes says Rufi.

Manana: Paloma tells everyone that she's marrying Gabe; Cristobal heads mass and Carloca gives him the stink eye.
