MEPS - Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 - Franco finally meets AB; Fer learns about Damian's criminal past
* Santi tells Barbie that he will be leaving town as soon as possible; he wants to get as far away from Aurora as possible. Barbie agrees and thinks that is what is best. Santi leaves. She smirks and thought bubbles that now she won't have to share Aurora and the baby with anyone.
* Franco returns home. Steve tells him what happened at the apartment with Venus; that Venus has agreed to keep quiet about the plan with the condition that they go through with the whole plan for Camilo to fall in love and walk down the aisle with Lovely. Steve says that Venus pretty much thinks all men are the same -- PIGS. Franco says Fer thinks the same thing right now. Steve is impactado (stunned). Franco explains Fer's tirade and revelation about accidentally seeing Gardenia kissing him in the kitchen, and that he had no choice but to let her continue thinking he's a womanizer (he can't just come out and explain the whole truth about his identity and plan to her right now). Then Franco tells him that Barbie called - Don Artemio has agreed to meet with them. Steve is stunned. They discuss AB, Ana Gregoria, Soledad and the links with the Elizalde family and Barbie herself. Then they discuss a plan for dealing with AB.
* In the car, Barbie thought bubbles to herself about her own little schemes.
* Aurora talks with Mother Superior in her room. Aurora is almost content with Santi's fury and anger when he left the convent. Mother S and Aurora discuss if he knows about Camilo - Aurora says no; she's grateful that he doesn't; she doesn't want him to go to jail for murder. Aurora loves Santi way too much. Mother S. gives her some advice about telling Santi about the baby and the truth. Aurora says she can't do that.
* Natasha and Camilo enjoy a 'roll in the hay' in Camilo's bedroom at the apartment.
* Franco and Steve discuss his going with Barbie to meet AB. Steve wonders what would happen if he didn't go. Franco has no choice - he has to go; for the sake of Barbie's trust as well as to rescue Lili.
* Fer talks with Gardenia in her office about what happened at Las Animas, and with Franco. Fer is totally disillusioned with Franco. Gardenia is totally nervous about what Fer is supposedly talking about. Fer says that Franco had no response or excuse for what happened. Gardenia is still clueless. Fer finally reveals that by accident she saw her and Franco kissing. Just then Flor enters and interrupts - Sr. Villasano has returned. Fer tells her to have him wait for her by her car in the parking garage. Flor leaves.
* In the reception area, Flor escorts Sr. Villasano down to the parking lot.
* In the office, Fer sits down with Gardenia and asks her point blank if Franco forced her to kiss him in any way. Gardenia pauses to think - stands up - and says 'more or less'. Fer wants to know for sure, was it more or less? Gardenia starts to shake, and squeaks, "Yes." Fer consoles her and thanks her for telling the truth. Fer leaves. Gardenia grumbles to herself.
* Barbie and Franco are in the car, driving to AB's mansion. Barbie gives Franco advice on the rules about dealing with AB - he's dangerous so they have to on guard at all times. She tells him how to act around the guy so they can get him to trust them, and have an opportunity to rescue Lili.
* Fer meets with Villasano in the parking garage. He hands her a file with valid proof about Damian's dirty dealings.
* Damian has lunch with his mommy. He is annoyed about Villasano's continuing witch hunt against him. He is also frustrated by Fer's love affair with Franco and her wanting a divorce. Mom is stunned. Damian yells. Mom has to calm him down and not cause a horrible scene. She consoles and advises him how to win Fer back. He grumbles that he's tried everything he knows and has failed miserably. She tells him to be creative, seduce Fer with every weapon he's got. She tells him that he's a much better man than Franco.
* Villasano continues to tell Fer about the trial, the case and all the evidence that points to Damian being the kingpin thief. Villasano also tells Fer what Damian's lawyer has been saying to him. Fer is totally interested in his story, and asks who the witness was. Villasano shows her the papers - she discovers that the key witness was Barbie! (She's totally impactado!)
* Barbie and Franco continue their discussion in the car about their alliance and how dangerous and powerful AB really is. Franco wonders what Barbie has to gain going against AB. All Barbie says is that you won't believe it.
* Fer tries to write a check to help Villasano with his case. Villasano stops her - he doesn't want the money; he wants justice for his mom. Fer promises to help get just that.
* They arrive at the mansion. Franco climbs out and looks around the grounds. Barbie tells him, "Let's go. AB awaits inside." Franco mutters, "Don Artemio Bravo."
* Priscilla sits in bed, crocheting something with yellow yarn. Tomasa enters carrying a baby crib with all the lace and fabric decorating it and a big red bow on top. Prissy thinks it's from Vladimir. Tomasa says that she can't wait for a little Elizalde to be running around the house. Tomasa leaves. Priscilla reads the card and is really happy. Cell phone rings. She answers. It's Vladimir - he's in a panic about a letter from Rolando. Priscilla is upset.
* As they wait on the steps, Franco and Barbie discuss AB and her relationship with him. Men come out to escort them inside.
* Fer sits at her desk and thinks about what Villasano's told her. Damian enters waving a white flag. She's not in the mood. Damian wants peace and sweep her away for their long-awaited honeymoon. She glares at him.
* In the office, Barbie leaves Franco alone. Franco looks around and is impactado to be face to face with the one and only cigar-smoking Don Artemio Bravo.
* Damian hands Fer a red jewelry box. She asks what it is. He tells her to open it. She opens it and reads the note - about a romantic overnight at the honeymoon suite of the local hotel. He explains his idea of the romantic honeymoon evening he has planned. She acts super surprised - but really isn't interested. Damian asks if he should call and confirm with the hotel. Fer sighs and says, yes, call to confirm.
* Priscilla goes to Vladimir's apartment to retrieve the letter. Vladimir lets her in. He complements her on her beauty. Priscilla is anxious and demands the letter. Vladimir leaves to find it.
* Fer assures Damian that she's sincere in her acceptance. He blows a kiss to her and leaves.
* AB tells Franco that for their first encounter, it's best for them to do so alone - that's why Barbie left the room.
* Vladimir searches and searches his bedroom for the letter - he doesn't find it. Priscilla is impatient and bangs on the door; what's up in there? do you have the letter or is this a trick? Vladimir admits that this is no trick. She asks what the letter said. He says that her brother stated that he knows everything about the two of them. Priscilla is paranoid that her brother may tell her dad. Vladimir is in a panic in the bedroom - he can't find the letter anywhere.
* At the reception desk, Gardenia is notably 'shaken and stirred'. Flor asks what's wrong? Gardenia hems and haws in response, and is saved when Fer calls on the phone that she needs to speak with Flor in her office. Flor leaves. Gardenia mumbles to herself what she should do with the secrets.
* Franco talks with AB about AB's men breaking in and searching Franco's home without authorization or notification. Barbie enters the office.
* Flor and Fer are in the office. Fer needs a friend right now, more than ever before. She's scared and feels really alone. Flor swears on her parents' graves that she will always be there as a friend. Fer continues that she needs to confide in someone and wonders if she can confide in Flor. Flor assures her she can. Forlorn Santi enters. Flor leaves. Santi tells Fer that he's dead inside. They hug.
* Barbie joins the discussion with AB and Franco. AB talks to Barbie and Franco in riddles about trust and confidence. Franco is curious. AB explains that trust is the only way he will let Franco get anywhere near Lili. Franco mutters, Trust. AB says, "Now you understand me." Franco and AB stare at each other.
* Santi explains to Fer the story that Barbie told him - that an unknown intruder entered and slept with Aurora. It was painful to hear it; and especially painful when Aurora confirmed it. Fer is stunned. Santi plans to travel to Italy for an Art Expo. Fer wonders about Aurora? Santi doesn't want to see her or have anything to do with her. Fer is confused.
* Aurora is gardening in the convent courtyard. She recalls Santi's tirade.
* Fer wants to know what happened with Aurora. Santi's angry and doesn't want to repeat it. He only says that Barbie told him.
* Gardenia tells Flor that Fer saw her and Franco kissing. Flor is stunned.
* Santi accepts/believes Barbie's story. Fer is stunned and angry and reminds Santi they can never trust the Hyena. Santi demands to know why not. Fer finally yells that Barbie is the reason why their sister Lili has been stuck in the sanitarium for a crime she didn't commit - that Barbie is the real person who murdered their mother! Santi is 'wide-eyed, open-mouthed' stunned.
* Franco and Barbie listen as AB explains the conditions for Franco having permission to visit Lili at the mansion; that Lili will never leave the mansion for any reason, except when AB says so or he dies!
ADVANCE: Find out tomorrow what happens when Fer tells Santi the truth about Barbie murdering their mother and blaming Lili for the crime; Anibal finding Priscilla in Vladimir's apartment; and Barb and AB watch Franco and Lili intently to see if Lili reveals Franco's real identity or not.

Gardenia is officially dead to me. I'm at the point of being sorry the snake didn't get her way back when. Over and over she accidentally (and I'm starting to believe these incidences are not accidents) opens her big fat mouth in order to do the most harm. Then she starts thinking she made a mistake and what if "Santorito" finds out what she did. Mind you she didn't care that she did harm, only that "Santorito" might turn on her or Fer might put her out of Lactos for her lie. ya basta!
On the enjoyable side, lots of secrets got out tonight. Delighted Rubiel Villasana got to present his evidence to Fer. Methinks Damnian (whose mamá thinks he's handsomer than TBLMOE - as if!!!) will spend that wedding night alone.
And the whole episode was full of wonderful scenes by Silvia Navarro. Amazing when she screamed the truth at Santi.
Two days in a row of some kind of truth coming out. Hooray. Lately the end of this keeps getting cut off on my recorder so thanks for the full coverage, amiga.
novelera -- I agree 'as if' anyone could be handsomer than Santorito. But of course this is damian's mother who said it - figures she would have to side with her son.
judy - hmm. thanks for mentioning it. I guess I hadn't really noticed. of course, if it fits the action by the actor or actress, I might as well continue to use it.
I think it would be nice if Santi left town, too, and wish he’d take Aurora with him.
re: Gardenia --- we tried to warn y'all. She's bad news.
Would "Villasana" translate to healthy house? That guy may be the only morally 'clean' person in MEPSland.
Dam treats his mother so badly. Then I was impactada when she displayed Dam's noisy behavior at the table and yelled "?Qué?" at the other diners. The fruit didn't fall far from that tree. I'm done with her.
Will Lili blow FrEd's cover tomorrow?
Will Ciro the Friendly Ghost stop her?
Will Fer take an shotgun to the hotel, and put Dam out of his misery?
Will we even care?
Fer should pack up Dam's stuff and have it delivered to the hotel and finally be rid of him.
rsk
I'm wondering why Fer would agree to confirming a honeymoon night with Dam? Maybe she'll have him served with divorce papers just as he's uncorking the champagne, lighting the candles, & unzipping his fly. HA! Take that, you scum.
DDenia: long on looks, short on brains. She's like Vasco on Pasion.
I like Flor & I think Fer could use a good friend. Erika ain't much help, that's for sure.
Ooooooo, what torturous death can we concoct for NaranHo? A pox on his privates, to start.
Backtracking a bit: the term "congress" that was used in place of copulate? consummate? screw? Anyone get the irony there? I'm an equal-opportunity politician hater (both blue & red...they're all liars, cheats & thieves in my book) so I found the use of the word amusing.
Is it Friday yet?
Maggarita
:-D
Fernanda has it pretty bad in that she can't trust anybody. I hope Gardenia comes clean about the kiss so that Fr/Ed will be cleared of being a cad in Fer's eyes. Although that still leaves the Erika engagement to be dealt with.
The Santi/Aborea saga is so frustrating to me. Nothing is ever resolved with those two. It's always Aborea running away from herself and Santi crying into a flower or a picture or some other prop. I hope he does go away to Italy so that we don't have to endure them until Aborea has the baby which if there is a merciful God will be the last episode of the TN.
~Caborita
And thanks, Jody, for the recap. I can't wait to see whether Lili gives Fr/Ed's identity away.
A comic lunch with Damian & Ursula. She calms him down, then bangs on the table.
Damian might be sharing his miel de luna with the local magistrate serving the divorce papers. I'm sure Fernanda wouldn't go there.
Is Lofley headed back to Camilo's apt? That s/b interesting. Loved it "a pox on his privates" & that's just to start.
We only have 38 episodes left, so things are starting to come together.
Santiago knows about Babs, not all though
Fernanda knows about a Damian, Babs connection & what a scumbag he is
Fr/Ed has met Artemio & I'm sure notes the resemblance to Gonzo
Babs knows Aurora is her daughter
Anibal, Vladimir & Pris , things are about to fly.
Has Artemio sealed his fate, "Lili won't leave unless I'm dead"? We know our guapisimo wont kill him.
Isn't that a great choice of words?
I looked it up in my Webster's New World Dict. and one of the definitions is:
2. sexual intercourse.
So there it is, and why we are so chronically screwed by the you-know-whats in Washington.
Fer is definitely planning something (and I don't think it includes clothes from Victoria's Secret!) for Dear Hubby at his honeymoon getaway - can't wait for tonight's episodio.....
Great recap as usual, Jody.

Variopinta, unfortunately I must remind you that the beautiful Miss Motormouth has lied before. Big time. Remember her brazen declaration that she knew nothing about ant stinkin' letters. That said, I think that very soon she will redeem herself. She really does seem remorseful.
Carlos
That trust test Franco underwent was to drink the drink AB served him and did not sip himself. I learned from Carlos that the drinking actions are an integral part of the story line.
I believe I understand EdFr's point of view regarding Fernanda now. He has nothing and no way of winning her now. She's married for life so he thinks. He, himself is planning to marry. Acceptance. The only thing he hope for is to be near her on occassion. And maybe a dream of having a romantic affair in 3 years or so. Sounds like an American soap to me...so I KNOW this won't happen thank goodness.
Fernanda looked like she is going to plan something for Damian. I hope she has it delivered but does not go there herself. That man is violent.
Carlos
I'm so curious, I might have to resort to you-tube to watch tonights episode.
Fr/Ed knows that Damian & Babs have been congressing (my new favorite word) & overheard Villasana in the office that he is a estafador, so I think he had hope until he was caught with Gardenia kissing him. He has already said that the compromiso with Erika was a mistake, which was a rebound situation. He has been honest with Erika, at least about another woman.
Interesting how these people plan on marriage when they are not who they say they are, Eduardo, Venus.

I didn't find yesterday's recap either. I'll try again. I'm unclear what is going on with Anibal, Vlad and Pris, what the heck is Anibal planning!
Fer has told Ed/Fr many, many times that her marriage is a sham. She is asking him to make a move. He is just thick in this TN. I plan to renew my FC vows with another novela, he is a mess in this one!
Re, Gardenia: Carlos, I can see why you are a physician and why you have been married for 39 years (for me 40!)you are a very understanding and patient person.
There is something childish about Gardenia, she needs to mature quickly before it is too late.
Sandy in TN
Fernanda has had to suffer every secret in silence. Unlike Fr/Ed's strong support system -Esteve, Gardenia, Jacinto et al, Fernanda's been all alone. Her outburst to Santi was long overdue. No wonder she couldn't contain herself any longer.
Wouldn't it be great if Fer sent Villasano and/or the proper authorities in her place to Dam at the hotel?
Lili can't reveal Franco's identity - he would never be allowed to leave the mansion of doom.
Diana in MA
I agree with you on Fer's lack of support system. She did have Ed/Fr but, really, he isn't truly there for her now, in my opinion. There are too many secrets between them and I'm not referring to simply his identity.
I wonder what will happen when Fernanda learns that Franco is Eduardo, will she be angry that he didn't let her know or will she just understand immediately? I guess we'll see soon.
Sandy in TN
He's really a nut case. Remember he said he thought Fernanda was a virgin. Then he tells his mamá that she's unfaithful to him. He shows up at Fer's office with a sh!t eating grin and a dopey white flag. Just the day before she said she was through with him. But he just plows ahead with the plans for the wedding night. What makes him think that after all this time and even sharing a bed occasionally with no action that this ploy will work?
Vivi, I concur that the confianza test was Fr/Ed drinking the drink AB served him. One thing is a bit odd about that meeting. Fr/Ed is supposed to convince AB that he wants to work together with Barbwire, that he's a team player. But he glared at him almost the whole time.
rsk
I don't think Fernanda will show up at the hotel. I think she just told Damian to confirm the reservation because she knew he'd need the room. 'Cause he ain't staying at the hacienda now...
And I don't think she is remorseful at all. She's a petulant child with raging hormones! The only thing she ever worries about is will she get in trouble, not the damage she does. Ack!
I don't think Lili will spill the beans, that was just to set us up. She will call him Franco I think. She's got a lot more going on then she lets the people around her know.
1) the primas can confer and share some secrets
2) Flor can possibly talk some sense and, one hopes, a little conscience into that motor mouth-busybody-troublemaker, DDenia.
3) Flor might spill some beans to Fer about DDenia and set some of the record straight
4) DDenia might get a chance to see the effect her actions are having on a person who's always been very nice to her, Fer.
Sure hope Carlos is right and that Gardenia redeems herself, but at the moment I’m sure tired of her calculating, childish nonsense.
More drama than laughs in this epi, so I especially enjoyed the mama/bebe lunch, with mama pounding the table. We can see where Dam got his attitude and his mannerisms. Also enjoyed the other diners staring, reacting.
I'm waiting for tonight's followup to all the cliffhangers left from last night.
Fernanda still wearing the on-again, off-again green scarf.
La Paloma
Eduardo Yáñez is un pirata in "Corazon Salvaje", can't imagine him even coming close to El Guapisimo as a pirata.
I like the idea of the authorities showing up at the hotel for Damian's estafa.
I think she should have taken the white flag and inserted in his a$$.
GinCA -- Yes, Fer did scream "MY" mother. But she has called Lili "my little sister (mi hermanita)" also. Lili is supposed to be older that Fer. (Could this be a typing glitch by the scriptwriters?)
Jody :)

Regarding speculation - if AB has to die then Barbie will kill him as novela rules prevent Fr/Ed from doing so.
I don't know whether it was Fer's anger or fact that she said MY mother not our mother to Santi. However, I'm also of the opinion that AB isn't Aurora's dad. When Barb was screaming about AB betraying her she referred to Aurora as Her child not their child. Then again it could be the anger talking.
Not knowing enough Spanish usage to even be qualified to offer this next observation, I'll plow ahead anyway ;-). Regarding Fer's saying "my mother" instead of "our mother" or even "mother," I notice that my husband (bilingual) will do the same thing when he speaks to his sister (also biligual). He'll say to her, "how is my aunt" or "you know how my mother was" and it doesn't mean that the aunt or the mother belong only to him. It's just how they each speak about relatives that belong to both of them.
Don't know if anyone else has heard this same thing when listening to a Spanish speaker? Would appreciate reading any further experiences from true Spanish speakers.
Anyway, if what I hear in my family really is common usage, then Fer's use of "my" doesn't necessarily mean that her mom is not Santi's mom, too.
I don't think I'll sit through another Mejia novela. I've watched most of Abrazame Muy Fuerte and the rest is sitting on my DVR. He specializes in sobbing, suffering heroines, long scenes of village festivals, and recurring ghosts. Abrazame even had a possession by a demon (not kidding, it was for real) with an exorcism.
We still don't know exactly the timing on this. I thought at the very beginning of the novela that Artemio Bravo was the one who gave her the name Barbara Greco, together with a whiz-bang resume so she'd get the job with Gonzo.
Maybe this means she was involved in Damnian's embezzlement during the period when she was working for Gonzo and before she married him.
Because I don't think she was Barbara Greco before she hooked up with AB. And she seems to go by Barbara Elizalde now, although lots of Mexican women use their birth name after marriage, adding de Moreno (example of husband's name) to their own name.
Carlos
Jody :)
It seems to me that many of the characters in novelas speak of mi padre o mi madre, even to a sibling. Though, I wonder if Santi was adopted--remember there were no photos under age 6 months? I've never thought of AB as Aurora's father, but I have no idea who it could be (I don't think it was Damian).
Carlos, I agree that poor Gardenia will be redeemed. I still like her--she's just immature.
LR
I missed a few parts last night - was Fr/Ed impactado about AB looking like Gonzo? Did Barb ever give him a heads-up about the family resemblance before they arrived?
Tune Up your Spanish by Gill & Wegmann is very good also.
¡Ojala! I could learn by osmosis, I have so many books, I should be speaking like a Spaniard.
-Vivi in DC
Your devotion to Gardenia is so charming, I smiled all the way through all the other comments.
Of course, being a woman, I think she's a brat and treats Fer terribly. After all, they all grew up together. Doesn't she have any
loyalty to the other kids?
Ihope that you're right and she does redeem herself soon.
Jody :)
Jody - ROFLOL! I became well acquainted with that verb while watching Cazando Un Millionario.
2) When Americans speak to siblings about their parents, we don't use a possessive "our mother". We simply say mom or dad. Spanish speakers might find it just as odd that we don't show some type of ownership. sru from Philly
ita, ito is a term of endearment as well as small.
