Sortilegio #3, October 8: And Now for Something Completely Different...or Maybe Not. And Hey Man, where's my watch?

Buenos Dias a todos.

From yesterday:
Roberto walks in and asks Raquel where everyone is. They are at the funeral home she replies. And the wife? Have you seen her? What kind of woman is she? Raquel says she hasn't met her yet but she had to borrow clothes. Roberto makes some kind of snotty remark that I didn't catch.

Today
Victoria, MJ and Paula come down the staircase and everyone jumps up to meet MJ. This is MJ the wife of Alex and her sister Paola. Mucho gustos all around. Raquel asks where Bruno is and Victoria says he is at the funeral home. She then explains to MJ that Bruno is her oldest son. The cars leave the estate for the funeral with the press, uh, buzzards circling in for the kill.

We beam over to Alex in the little hut looking like he fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Sobrino walks up with a load of firewood. Tio and Sobrino have a discussion about the watch and Tio says he needed it. Sobrino says maybe they should go out to the highway (carretera) and Tio is worried about being blamed for the accident.. Sobrino wants to know what they are going to do? He can't die alone.

Bruno the lounge lizard in his pleather pants slithers up to the door of MJ's house and knocks on the door. Pedro opens the door and is surprised to see “Alex” and asks what he is doing there. Pedro says MJ went to Merida. Our not -so- galan says I know. They have a discussion about Pedro selling stolen goods. Pedro says no we only sell old things. Bruno says drugs and weapons too. I swear that is not true. Well sometimes but only a little. He tells “Alex” that he knows his leg is bad and he can't work and he doesn't want MJ to live in the house alone. MJ is now the widow of Alejandro Lombardo and you don't have to worry about her future. Bruno tells him to sit down and explains that Alejandro Lombardo is one of the richest men in Merida. Pedro exclaims that that is you! My mother married the father of Alejandro and my name is Bruno Albeniz. Dun, dun, dun!

Funeral. Everyone goes through the receiving line. Victoria introduces Raquel's friend to MJ. The friend gives MJ the stink eye. Unknown man says to Fernando that he was Alex's best friend, what happened? Fernando says he doesn't know what happened. And Bruno, where is he? He's with the authorities. The priest comes in. Victoria sees Fernando. Here I am Victoria at your side as long as you want. Thank you. The priest finishes up the ceremony. Lots of crying and sniffling.

Pedro's House. You tricked my daughter, you tricked us all. Bruno says yeah, yeah, but you are millionaires. How do you know this man that died was the real Alejandro Lombardo? He had many enemies that sooner or later would have killed him. I just took advantage of the situation. Pedro thinks it is a coincidence that he died at an opportune moment. Very proud of himself, Bruno says his death was hastened. Pedro wants to know what happened. And Bruno says nobody saw anything but you have to convince everyone that MJ married him. Pedro is surprised that MJ doesn't know. No, she doesn't know so let's begin. You have to be on my side. Pedro thinks it is dishonest but that is like the pot calling the kettle black and Bruno happily points that out to him. Well, you can sell your stolen cheap stuff for pesos, but now you have millions. I don't have time to lose so you need to choose whether you want to live like a prince or pass the rest of your days like a rat. If you go to the police you will spend the rest of your days in prison. Pedro looks at the statue he was painting and says ok, I accept. Bruno gives Pedro some blood money and says he is the father-in-law of Alejandro Lombardo. He takes a picture out of a frame and puts a nice photoshop picture of MJ and Alejandro in its place. They sit down to get the story straight in case Pedro is questioned. Nice!

Sobrino walks up with a heavy load and wants to know how things are going? (Why is the Sobrino the only one working?) Sobrino walks into the house to check on Alex. Sobrino says hey Tio he's waking up. He'll think we stole his watch (again with the watch). Tio asks Alex if he was in a good fight. What happened. Alex says he doesn't know. Were you robbed? You didn't have any money or ID. My cards and wallet are in the truck and my cell phone also. Your truck? (Sobrino) Tio is surprised that he had an accident. Yes and a man and a woman were with me also. Sobrino—a woman and a man? You were by yourself. We didn't see a car. Who are you? our not-so-handsome galan wants to know. I am Chucho and this is my nephew Chincho. Alex wants to go to a hospital and asks if they are close to a city. Go look for help. I have money whatever you want. Please go right away.

Bald guy says he heard from Bruno he is ok. He'll be back tonight. Victoria asks MJ if she would like to rest. She says yes and Paola goes with her.

At the hut. Alex comes to and wants to know what time it is. Chucho tells him it is 9:00. Where is my watch? What? Chucho looks at him funny. Alex tells him that's ok, man, you have to take care of him. He wants to know when Chincho will return. Chucho is not sure.

Paula says you are a millionaire. Don't cry. MJ just can't believe any of this.

Dun, dun, dun we see Bruno arriving in his car.. Victoria is telling the money-grubbers, uh, Raquel and Roberto that MJ believed they lived in the US. She doesn't know why. Roberto always the considerate and tactful son-in-law asks if the marriage is legal and Victoria says she doesn't know. She's the wife of Alejandro there is nothing we can do. She's a nice girl. Roberto snorts and rolls his eyes.

Alex is still trying to find out if there was anyone else with him when he was found. Chucho tells him not to think about it.

Victoria goes up to talk to MJ and asks how she is feeling. MJ is fine thanks. Alex never mentioned our real situation? No. How did you meet? In a disco in Cancun. We will leave tomorrow. No. Rest. There are many things we need to know. We will talk later. Bruno will be home tonight and will want to talk to you. More crying and sobbing.

Bruno shows up at Erick's house, and fortunately for us Erik is wearing pants. Tell me how are things? hisses Bruno.

Eating in the dining room. Paula is sitting down at the far end of the table on the bad side of La Frontera while everyone else is at the other end. Raquel wants to know if MJ is preggers. Of course not, says Paula The Spanish Inquisition begins with Raquel asking what did they do, were they in love? Paula replies that he invited her sister to go to elegant restaurants. Did he love her? Of course. I don't understand how he could marry a girl like this. (What a snot!) Victoria thinks she is a good girl and Roberto chimes in with is your father rich? Paula says he worked for the government but had an accident.

Bruno creeps up to MJ who is still crying on the bed. She freaks out and he covers her mouth so she won't scream. Hysterics then relief follow. He tells her he loves her and takes her outside so they can talk. Raquel and Roberto leave and it is just Victoria and Paula at the big table. Victoria lets her cross the border and sit next to her so they can talk. Your sister wants to leave tomorrow but that is impossible. Please help me to convince her to stay so we can find out more information. This is your house too. Everything goes to MJ.

Bruno tells her that remember I have a brother and explains the family history. He tells her that Alejandro really is dead and that he is Bruno. Since you are the widow of Alejandro you inherit everything and then when the time is right we will get married. She goes ballistic and they roll around on the grass. He keeps trying to convince her. She is crying—again. She is certainly giving Sophia a run for her money.

Alex wakes up and wants to go to the highway that is 2 kilometers away.

MJ is still upset and tells Bruno she is going to go to his mother and tell her everything. He says if you do your father and sister will go to jail.

Alex tries to get up and tells Chucho that he has lots of money and will give him some when he gets to the hospital.

Bruno convinces MJ that nobody will believe her so she better go along with the plan. He tells her he's got the goods on her dad and has proof. So she can go to his mother and tell her the truth or she can go along with his plan and her dad and sister won't go to jail. He kisses her and she cries.

Paula is looking for her sister and tries to convince her to stay. You are the owner of all this. Aren't you happy? She tells Paula that she's not really married to Alejandro she is married to Bruno the son of Victoria. Again with the crying and snotty nose.

Bruno comes to his mother's side and they have a good cry. She's so sad. He was so young. Bruno tries to be sad but just can't pull it off. Maybe he should take lessons from Barbara Greco. What is his wife like? She is humble and a good girl. Bruno says he found out that they are married and the father has a picture of Alejandro and the girl at his house.

Now both girls are crying. Paula tries to convince her to go along with it. But MJ says it feels dirty and ugly. It's not your fault. Don't be stupid. Paola has a tantrum. Can you say self-centered?

It's morning and Alex is trying to get up. More talk about the watch. An ambulance comes for Alex and he is taken to the hospital. Chincho wants to go with him to the hospital but Chucho says no. You have animals to take care of. What does that guy do anyway? Sit around and watch his nephew work?

It's the next day because MJ has changed her clothes and heads outside. She is the first one up. She sits on a bench and surveys her kingdom. The bald guy shows up and tells her what a good guy Alejandro was. He has her come with him and shows her an album and she gets her first look at the real Alejandro.

We get our hospital scene out of the way as Alex arrives at the hospital. Bruno comes in to talk to MJ. She is still mad at him. He tells her he talked to her father yesterday and she is upset about that. He tells her now she has everything and they will marry. She says she doesn't want to marry him. Nunca jamas.

Tomorrow:
The family gets a phone call from Alex. Bruno shows up at Pedro's.
DVR didn't get the rest.

Hi everybody. Here it is. Can someone tell me what enganar (with a tilda) means. I tried to look it up to include it in the vocab but didn't have much luck with the translator. If this is not posted in the right place can someone do it for me?
Thanks.

Connie, it is "to deceive". Sorry, I have been halfheartedly trying to get into this TN, but it just is not doing anything for me, I'm going to sit this one out. Unfortunate, too, because the 9 o'clock slot is prefect for me. I'll be checking in occasionally, to see what's happening, and looking forward to the next TN.

I'm going to start reading Spanish again, after a hiatus. Does anyone know of a source for Spanish/English books, ideally with sp. on one page, eng. on the opposite/facing page? Does such a thing exist?

Hasta pronto....dorado dave

Good job, Connie! Thanks a latte!

Thanks DD. That's kind of what I thought but wasn't sure.

If I left anything out, please feel free to add on.

Hi Connie, thanks for the recap! Hope it didn't take you too terribly long! Feel free to condense to save yourself time... me thinks engañar is going to be a very important word in this TN.

The old guy, staring at Alejandro for hours on end... cute touch... and I have to say, Bruno is great... and Bracamontes is doing a good job. I am trying to get over my irritation over her work in "Tontas." This is a whole new thing, give her a chance.

`Connie, that was superb. Your title alone captures the spirit of the show.
Yeah, I think this is going to be a fun TN. I think our Bruno is just getting warmed up, and it looks like it won't take much for Mary Jo's sister and dad to take a stroll on the dark side.

Carlos

Yeah, it did take me a long time. I didn't want to leave anything out. It is kind of long though. Sorry.

Thanks Carlos.

Thanks, Connie~~~I knew that you'd bring your special charms to ''Charmed'' [Sortilegio...Sorta-Hell-io Sorta-legible whatever]. I am hanging in ther because I love Carla, Monica , and our recappers. Onward. p.s. I love your title. Today's word ID : ''furnes''...where Art is.

Connie, you did a great job! Thanks very much. And though this probably isn't what you want to hear, for those of us with weak Spanish, the more detailed the recap the better. I'm not trying to pressure you into continuing to provide such recaps, but at least know that if you do, many of us are grateful. There's absolutely, positively NO reason to apologize!!

Thanks Juanita. I had more dialoge type stuff in there and thought it would be too boring.
8(:-)

Muchas gracias and good job on the recap, Connie. Bruno the lounge lizard in his pleather pants?? The press as buzzards?? LMAO Brilliant!

Thank The Goodness poor Alex got up off of that cot and walked the heck out of there. It's a wonder he didn't succumb from his internal injuries and lack of food and water, waiting for someone to get him some help. At first, an ambulance out that far in the sticks was strange, but seeing as it was the Red Cross... heck, they go everywhere.

Did I miss something in translation about why there was a casket at the funeral? How could there be, when any dental record checks would not have matched up? Hello? *echo*

Bruno actually looked confused when MaryJo wasn't turned on by his Evil Scheme, attention to detail, and scary intro music. LMAO

MaryJo's crying was WAY more palatable for me than Slofia's ever was. Ugh, just thinking back on Slofia/La Llorona gives me hives. And at least MaryJo has something to really cry about. Boy, is she in deep pucky.

What the heck is Bruno going to do when Alex phones home? (If Vicky doesn't think it's a prank and hangs up on him, that is)

Wow. There are so many Pieces of Crap walking around this town, we may have to keep our own personal craptometer with adjustable rankings. Four men so far, and even the girls (Raquel and Paula) are vying for a spot on it.

I enjoyed the episode and am looking forward to tonight's. Just waiting to see what else Bruno's going to do has me going.

Thanks again, Connie! Buenos dias, mates.

I'm really surprised at how quickly the plot is advancing. So much has happened in just three days, and apparently by day four the family will know that Alejandro is alive. In normal TN speed, it would take weeks for the family to learn this. I'm wondering how the plot will continue to develop for 90+ more episodes.

A few more comments. Wow..They have certainly uglied Jackie up, haven't they ? She is a tall girl and really seemed to be holding her own in that tussle on the lawn with Bruno. I'm pretty sure that she could have taken him if she had stopped sniffling and focused a little more. I guess the bald guy is the majordomo. He seems to have been very fond of Al. The servants always love the galans. So we know right off the bat who the baddies are : Bruno, Erick of the Red Briefs, Roberrrtooo, Paolo, Maura. These people are amateurs. Art and Barb could eat them for lunch. The Rescuers Chucho and Chincha...who names these folks? I can't wait for Al to show up ...ALIVE. Bruno will freak out.

Good point Stephe about the casket. I didn't even think a thing about it. Was that a weird funeral or was that just me?

p.s. Connie~~~I think that your recap was exactly the right length..perfecto. I knew you'd be great. Thanks so much for a fantastic recap.

It will make his a-hole pucker for sure Susanlynn! I laughed out loud when they told Alex their names. I didn't even want to type it it was so ridiculous. We probably won't have to see them again but if we do I'm going to call them Tio and Sobrino instead.

Ibarramedia~~~I think that the exterior is the setting from Mundo de Fieras. It had a double staricase. The Alborada palace had a double staiecase that became a single staricase at the bottom.

Dorada Dave ~~~ One of my students from Spain gave me an anthology of poems by Neruda [?] . The Spanish is on one page and the English translation is on the other side. Carlos reads books in Spanish, so he might be able to help you. Carlos recaps and posts at the Gancho en Corazon site.

Connie...I knew you would be fabulous because you make great comments! "Lounge lizard", "buzzards" and my all time favorite..."What a snot!" Yes, those "rich" people were really pouring on the snobbery, no subtly with them.

The ying and yang with MJ and Paula had a realistic feel, a probable honest touch in a family that grew up hard scrabble.

It was surprising how willing Victoria was to acknowledge that her unknown new daughter-in-law owned everything. I'd imagine a real "rich" family would be on the phone to the best abogado in town to try and stop the transfer!

Thanks Connie for all that hard work!

Thanks so much for the caps! I think that watch is the same one from cauidad0 angel, he wore. Keep watching because it gets better with bruno and yes that's why i like this one, because it does go fast! You haven't left anything out!bruno is a bad cat and he does everything he wants! Keep watching you won't be disappointed. Also that guy with all the nude pic, and that underwear priceless.

rebecca

Thanks Sandy. I enjoyed doing it. I like to think of it as a learning experience. I wish I had a Spanish dictionary because sometimes the online translator gives you weird words and is not very accurate.

Connie, thanks for your recap. It was terrific and hard to believe it's your first. Loved the "pleather" pants and your observations about the numeorus mentions of Alex' watch--what was with that?

Yeah, the good guys and the bad guys (and gals)are lining up in their camps and the stage is being set up pretty fast here. Glad about that.

Do hope that as MJ now has the money for a good hairdresser those stringy "poor girl" locks are soon gone and her true prettiness can further emerge. It seems that hairstyles in telenovelas is one sign of social class or at least of having money.

The interior paint colors of both the homes of the pobres and the ricos, however, are both seriously garish. At first I thought the carpet in Vicky's house with the curved pattern in it actually had a lump (a body?) beneath it and only when the camera got closer did I see it's just a curved design. Whew.

Anyway, Connie, enough of my ramblings. You did a great job and thanks again.

Whoever designed Vicky's house should be shot. Doesn't even look comfortable. MJ's house reminded me of the Reyes Brothers. Didn't their kitchen have the same kind of paint? I went to Best Buy looking for Pasion and found Fuego. I didn't buy it though. Once was enough for me.

Connie, great recap, you are a natural. Of course, this came as no surprise from you frequent comments re MEPS.

I appreciate your "in depth coverage" especially for the first couple of weeks when there is so much thrown out there and I am having a hard time with my flow charts.

I don't much care for JB or WL but will hang in there because this forum is so much fun. Thanks again,

rsk

I think the casket at the funeral may contain the remains of one of the other people whom Alejandro picked up along the way. If I recall correctly, the police said something about wanting to do further identification and Bruno said they shouldn't, that Alejandro was alone and further poking around with his remains would be disrespectful and would upset the already grieving family. (Unless I'm confusing this with En Nombre del Amor, where Carlota persuaded the authorities that no autopsy should be done on Iñaki.)

The body in the casket was the guy who ws the passenger in the car and Bruno told the police to not do all the dental/DNA testing stuff so they could just get on with the funeral and I presume the will (transfer of property to MJ).

-Vivi in DC

That makes sense and would explain it.

Connie, Great job. You did it like a pro. You even seem to have blended some of the style of past recappers here.

That was interesting. I too thought it would be slower doeveloping. Like Alejandro being out of society for weeks and maybe getting amnesia. He knows who he is, got Chuchi to get him to the hospital and will compsensate them, now tongith we have the phone call and homecoming. I'm just curious about how Bruno will explain and handle everything.

I have never watched a Carla Estrada show from Beginning to end. Just stumbled upon Pasion Last year on it's last week and that was my entry into TNs and this site. I have the dvds though. But my research shows that her works average 90-95 episodes. So there should be minimal filler at best.

I like how quickly things go and no time is wasted. In some cases it was too fast like the very first episode. They could have done that in to weeks to show gradual transition and establish the parents as characters. Of course the parents would get more screen time too instead of cameos. That is why most of us had our heads spinning.

The drama and timing is really good. I like how some of her incidental music sets the tempo of suspense. And that is what I see in all her period novelas.

Maria Jose(Braccamontes) is only 5'7" Those shoes of hers that seems to be what some young girls are wearing today make her look taller. She is also slimmer than the regular Mexican beauties. Maybe she wants to be a US actress someday. Victoria is 5'9".

I love the trademark intro where everything is happening in one shot, one take and no editing. This one is horter though. A little aside, on the Pasion dvd they showed how they do the one shot constant changing action intros. In some cases they had doubles for Colunga because he could not be in two places so fast. They alos had to rehearse it a lot.

I alos like how they were using spacing at the bottom of the staircase. Ezequiel and other servants were in the back, Raquel and Maura wre spread out. Roberto was at the bottom and then Victoria and Maria Jose descend the staircase with Paula in tow. And MJ is announced to all that is there.

Susanlyn, My theory now is maybe that house is a template, a basic framework and they do some required changes in appearance. Like the staircase for example. Same like malls transform old stres locations that closed into a new store. They tear down some stuff and build new fixtures. I will have to pull out by Alborada dvd to compare further.

Connie, the detail is fine. You know I like that. And if you can handle it then by all means continue doing it. Otherwise condense if you wish.

Ibarramedia

I get that the body in the casket is the hombre with the snakebite and that Alej wandered away. What happened to the woman then .. still waiting for Cucho ?

Agreed about everyone's comments about the casket. I will also add some people use the casket as a prop in the absence of a body for ceremonial purposes.Closed of course.

Ibarramedia

Thanks Connie.

Very rarely anymore do I have to look up too many words, but had to look up barranca from the night before. That had me confused.
I don't get why Bruno has to go thru all of this drama - wouldn't he be one of the major heirs anyway without the whole marriage thing?

Did Victoria inherit anything or is she pretty much at the mercy of the children? I'm not sure they ever got into it because it would be weird to leave everything to the kids and nothing for the widow.

Connie, I loved the recap, and it's just the right length. You included everything, without just giving all the dialog, and did a superb job. Thank you!

I also wondered about having a funeral and casket without a body, but who are we to ask?

The problem for the extortion victims (MaryJo, Paula and Pedro) is that it never ends. Once they've agreed to Bruno's scheme, he has them at their mercy forever, and can keep making demands, always with that threat of jail. Maybe they should have called Bruno's bluff (but then we'd have no show). It's actually quite a contrived scheme - woo random girl, who happens to have semi-corrupt father, get married in half-brother's name, kill half brother....I like it! I think Bruno's going to be a great bad guy, and supposedly his sister Raquel is bad, too, although we haven't yet seen it.

She's just a snot. I don't like her already. I bet she is going to be trouble.

About the inheritances, I don't think they've been very clear. As for Antonio, I think they said he gave a house each to Bruno and Raquel, and all the main holdings to his son Alejandro. But he probably also gave something to his wife,
Victoria, right? He'd have to.

As for Alejandro, I think they said his will gave everything to his wife and children (even though he didn't have them). But who would make a will like that? They really didn't say where his assets would go if there were no wife and children. He's not related to Victoria (just his stepmother), so even without a will, maybe she wouldn't get anything. As for Bruno and Raquel, although they are actually his half-siblings, they don't know this, and think they're unrelated. So Bruno may have been convinced he'd get nothing, unless he did his little scheme of having "Alejandro" get married.

Bruno is going to be a good bad guy but dont' forget that nobody is as smart as Fernando Escandon!

Thanks Hombre.

Still, seems like a lot of trouble to go to and so many poeople being in on it is a dangerous game the B-man is playing

Right before Alejandro's father died at Bruno's school, he was arguing with Victoria about leaving everything to Alejandro and also givng him the ownership of all the family's businesses and making him the head of the family as well.

I'm sure Victoria got something. But I'm not clear on it. Bruno and Raquel get a house each. Bruno's is in Cancun. In addition to that Alejandro would give them monthly allowances so they can maintain the lifestyle they were accustomed too. Alejandro was also kind enough to give Bruno a high position in the company.

Bruno's resentment stems from the fact that it was not he who inherited the company and he is not the head of the family. He thought he it was his birthright being the oldest and that it was entitled to him. He also did not want to be Alejandro's charity case.

In short Bruno wants it all.

Ibarramedia

And he's a spoiled brat and someone needs to jerk a knot in his tail and tell him to knock it off already.

Connie, thank you for a terrific detailed recap and it was your debut, too. I need the details just to know I am comprehending correctly. I like your sense of humor as well,

I was thinking, as Jazzee mentioned, that Bruno certainly concocted a crazy plan to inherit the money, but then if you're going to kill someone why not go for the whole pot.

Marcelo is playing slimy very well as Roberto and he is a major reason I am watching this novela.. He has the potential to be the galan in a novela or at least the galan's best buddy IMO.

GinCA

So, now what. Al is being taken to the hospital, and in the previews, he calls Vicky. What's going to happen when he finds out that his esposa came for the funeral ? Que esposa ???? In real life, Al would call the cops, but this is a TN, so it should be interesting to watch the tangled web that starts to form when Not-So-Dead Al returns. We know that Vicky, Raquel, Maura , Fernando, and the majordomo will be happy...Bruno ..not so much.

Thanks to the recappers and to those who comment. I can also have fun by reading the recaps without the agony of watching. I took one look at this Levy character at the beginning and decided, this novella is not for me. So instead I watched a wonderful program on TV5. My French isn't so wonderful but there are English subtitles. Actually I wish there were French subtitles. I find the ones on Univision very helpful.

Lynne

Dosed off during last nights episode, really appreciated the recap. I'm having a hard time getting into this, but this is a Spanish learning tool for me, the teacher just isn't that interesting.

I hope that's a Rolex Alex has, but where is Chucho going to sell it for what it's worth?

I was wondering about the funeral also, I guess they think Alex is ashes. But what about his 2 passengers?

Dorado Dave, check Amazon for books. The last one I got was Historias de México, Mexican folklore.
ISBN-13-978-0-8442-0811-4
I also recommend Think Spanish magazine, you can check it out here

http://www.thinklanguage.com/spanish/

They have interesting articles.

Variopinta, the first couple of weeks are always like that. I was like that with MEPS. I just couldn't get into it. But they drug out the whole beginning thing too long I thought. What episode are we on? Is anyone keeping count?

Ibarramedia,

Your take on the inheritance, houses and company ownership is exactly how I understood it. Even after hearing a really bad report from the school master, Victoria still wanted to give Bruno a chance for an elevated position and ownership in the company but Alejandro's father would have none of it...then the unfortunate anvil in the form of a pothole and a crutch.

Sandy in TN

Thanks for the wonderful recap, Connie! I am enjoying this novela so far. Bruno is a fascinating villano and things are actually moving pretty fast!

Connie, We are in Episode 3-No not Star Wars. :) We just ended MEPS on Monday Remember? Tonight will be episode 4.

Ibarramedia

Connie you did really great!!!!! I too am wondering what with sooo much happening up front what the heck the rest of the 90+ episodes are going to be about. Oh yeah, there is all those other people like Maura,Rachel, Fernando etc.

I think the farmers names were a play on cheech and chong.

Ibarramedia -"Maria Jose(Braccamontes) is only 5'7" She has looked much taller than that. Which makes me think of some western actor who always looked tall but supposedly was really short, and I never found out who it was.

I think this one is going be fun. I see more depth in JB with this one.

I want to see what or who Ale is looking through the beads in the opening segment. I like his eyes.

MJ and family are in deeep ****

Dipity,

Alan Ladd was short and need a box to stand with his romantic scenes!!!

Sandy in TN

PB, I believe you are referring to Alan Ladd (Shane), who had to stand on a box to kiss Jean Arthur.

Carlos

Susanlynn said: Sortilegio...Sorta-Hell-io Sorta-legible whatever. LOL

HGR: That illusion of a body bump under Vicky's rug is something, isn't it? LOL It just won't stop drawing your eye in!

Connie: Hey, maybe Bruno is channeling Non-fer-nando Escandon... wasn't Fernando fond of snakes too?

Thanks for clearing up the casket stuff, Vivi and Juanita. I figured it had to be the poor snake-bit guy and some of the female passenger mixed together in there, but I missed where they decided not to officially ID the remains.

Hombre said: As for Alejandro, I think they said his will gave everything to his wife and children (even though he didn't have them). But who would make a will like that? I agree that whole will thing makes little sense. The usual in NovelaLand.

Psychopathic Bruno's resentment stems from Alex existing, period. From the time they were little, he beat up on him and let other people beat up on him because he hated him and "Alex should know better." My dad's gone (supposedly) and his is alive to dote on him. Typical stepbrother jealousy complicated by an inferiority complex. Ridiculous. (But great for the plot--ha.)

Variopinta, thank you for the thinklanguage website...I love it. The Spanish sounds so beautiful spoken by the professional narrators and I, actually, understand alot of it.

Dipity, I once saw the actor who played the lead in the Virginian T V series many eons ago in person, by chance, and thought he must have stood on a box in most scenes because he was sooo short. However, he had a handsome face and charisma.

GinCA

Thanks Ibarra. I thought maybe they were doubling up the episodes like they did in MEPS.

Stephe, it was Ricardo Uribe that had all of the snakes including the infamous belt buckle.

I hate snakes. Ewwwww

In checking the episodes on Televisa, it looks like they were doing ½ hour episodes in Mex. We will be on 4 tonight & they were on 8. I think they change later to 1 hr episodes.

Oh,that's right--Fernando had the belt buckle in his drawer, but it belonged to the murderous Uribe patriarch. Thanks. :)

Both Ricardo Uribe and Fernando Escandon were fascinated by snakes. Fernando even stole Ricordo's belt from the dresser because he liked it whenhe was hafing an affair with Raquel Uribe.
Fernando has a snake tatto in his back. But Ricardo wears more snake inspired items.

Ibarramedia

Fernando had a snake belt too, remember Sofia saw it when he raped her.

Ruth (be still my heart) put a snake in the 3 niñas' room. Hey, by the way, where were those rent-a-nuns when that happened?

Carlos

Correction Tattoo.

I guess the thing to do would be to label the episodes twice. #4 US and # 8 Mexico for ease of access and tracking.

Ibarramedia

Yeah, it gets confusing when you are trying to find it on YouTube.

ibarramedio
snake tattoo, after awhile it's all a blur.

In watching Sortilegio on YouTube, they are half-hour, so I have to watch two a night. It took me a good minute to figure that out, though.

So tonight, Episode 4 for me will be #s 8 and 9. I think.

Variopinta, Sofia faintly remembers Fernando's snake tatto from his back but could not see clearly because of the chloroform.

Carlos, the Rent a nuns were conveniently out when the Lovely and sexy Ruth Slipped the snake from the canvas bag.

Who do you like better Ruth or Gardenia?

Ibarramedia

Arrrgh! My keyboard is making me make typos even whe I type them correctly. Tattoo.

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia, now that is a tough question. I think Ruth is more sensual and of course Gardenia more wholesome. Plus I got to see Ruth in the altogether in a movie. Believe me, she is real...

Ok...Ruth

Carlos

Gardenia. She's not evil.

Ruth is not evil. Just misunderstood. I think I will take them both.

Great recap, Connie. Great title...

It's a good thing Alex is turning up because if he didn't, I'm sure Bruno would find some way to kill off MJ after he married her so everything would be his. He's baaad!!

¡ Ay caramba! Ibarramedia

ménage á trois

Carlos
Was that?
Sexto, pudor y lastimas

Thank you Connie for the excellent and detailed recap! It was just long enough for me.

Susanlynn -- Mundo de Fieras used the town set that Carla and Televisa built for Alborada - so if there's reminders of "Mundo", that's because Carla and Televisa may have reused that part of the set decor when they built this mansion/castle.

Jody :)

Connie, thanks so much for great entertainment. You done great!!
Love your sense of humor "We beam ofer to Alex in the little hut looking like he fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down". LMAO at that.

Speaking of OT, what has "Who do you like better Ruth or Gardenia?"
got to do with this novela? Just askin

Variopinta, that was it.

Carlos

Sorry Tammy. An inside joke to those who followed FELS and MEPS. and I forgot to put OT.

So do you think Bruno will attempt to gaslight Maria Jose to everyone if she does not play along?

Ibarramedia

Connie: a 10 on the snarkometer! Great debut, amiga. : ? )

Well, if the cameraman can avoid close-ups of JB's uber-toothy smiles, the rest of the show should be decent once the basic plots and characters are in place. That generally takes a week or two. Carla Estrada's signature seems to be well-paced scenes and lots of action from the first night on. So far, I cannot complain from that standpoint.

I am possibly going to be odd-man out here, and at first I thought lil' sissy here was a slutty brat, but I can't fault Pau for not wanting to be sent to jail simply because her sister got involved with the wrong man and is now in a position to get thrown in jail along with her father as accomplices to papi Pedro's shady business dealings or being set up as supposed accomplices to murder for Alex's milliones de dolares as the resident lounge lizard in his pleathery pants has threatened if MJ doesn't agree to the farce. I wonder if Bruno's evil will eventually equal that of Barbie and Art's, or say Ferd and Gabi's.

We will have to see how many people Bruno kills. No one can be more evil than Fernando Escandon. That dude killed 13 all by himself and is a unpleasant person to be around with.

Ibarramedia

Jardinera, the way that Bruno has come out of the gate, evil potential from infancy, I have high hopes for him. At the rate that he is going, he may eclipse them all. Fratricide attempt on day 2. He's off to a running start and I predict that once she adjusts to the idea, little, cutesy Pau will join right in. Looking forward to tonight and even more to Sat.

Carlos

Ibarramedia, have faith, the 1st week hasn't finished and at least 1 and likely 2 have perished at Bruno's bidding.

Carlos

Thanks everybody for all your comments. This is going to be a good show I think.

I think I'm hooked again. This is starting well.

Carlos: My first recap is dedicated to you and Bonnie Belle.
=/8 > }
=============
Connie: Perhaps you have these already, but here are some helpful online Sp/Eng. dictionaries Schoolmarm turned me onto just in case, amiga.

http://www.wordreference.com

http://www.tomisimo.org/

http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-spanish/
Reverso also has a great translator option, too!

Cuidado!

Susanlynn: I am definitely in a funk over this group of leading men. My daughter and I agree that Wm. Levy looks like he's got a golfball sized head on a great bod, and that crazy image really cools my jets when he's on the screen. I'm suffering from FC withdrawal. If I can find it in myself to ignore that fuzzy zit Marcelo is sporting, I just might be able to manage a heart palpatation or two for our #3 he-man.

Thanks Connie for the great recap. I'll give it a little more time. Just not getting into this one yet.

My two cents for the most evil in telenovelaland - Dona Barbara. She's by far, the worst one I've ever seen...
jb (not JB - the big toothy one)

Jardiners
We can see hunkisimo on Mon night. I'm taping the Cristina episodes for when I have a yearning for FC. I'm glad he's not in this one though, just not his thing. Levy is very suitable for the part. He looks VERY tall to me, but I checked him out & he is 6', I thought at least 6'2", very deceiving on TV.

Sandy, and Carlos - Alan Ladd..... I never knew who it was. Thank you!
GinCa, TV can make us believe anythiing. We are watching Telenovelas right? LOL! Seriously, short persons, Chelsea and the snowboarder, on Dancing with the Stars last week was totally hot!

Jardinera - I totally agree about not blaming Paula for not wanting jail. I thought was the choice Papa had to make also. Jail or $$.
Thank you for the links also!

Jardinera, wow! I'm speechless and honored. Better'n a Nobel Prize.

Carlos

Dipity: You're welcome, kiddo! (and thanks for giving us a shortened nick for you because I kept having to erase and respell you. LOL!) Definitely glad you're on board for this one.
=========
jb: Oops! LOL! I thought about you after posting, but comadre, I love your differentiation! JB's smile is a capital scream --pun intended. Ackkkk!
=========
Carlos: Alas, the word must have gotten out about that peach flavored vino. Hubby could only find blackberry for this week-end's work load. It may negatively affect the quality of the output.

Have to check in at 5 am to say, wow! for last night's episode. I am totally hooked. it may not last, but at this moment I am more captivated by this novela than I've been by any of them in ages. Can't wait for what's next! And I'm liking all three of the leads together.

Sorry for the late comment, but I wanted to say way to go and thanks for all the quality snark :)
