MEPS 10/02/09: Gonzo, Cad and Dam Get Their Moment of Zen and No More True Lies for Ed

As we begin, Artemio Bravo has been getting his evil jollies admitting to Gonzalo, his captive audience of one, that not only is he Gonzo’s bastard half-brother, but that Art has been the e-e-e-vile genius behind all the Elizalde’s misfortunes lo these past fifteen years; and that it was he who had Monserrat murdered at the hands of none other than Gonzo’s gorgeous, then assistant and would-be merry widow, Barbara Greco!! Duhn-duhn-duhn-duhhhhn! (The whole of Viewerville gives up a prayer that Gonzo doesn’t kick the bucket before Bravo delivers every dastardly detail.) Gonzo, who is literally struggling-for-breath-impactado from these shocking revelations, manages a “No! No! No!” in disbelief. He squirms in pain as his blood pressure rises to dangerous levels and ugly rivulets of sweat roll off his cheeks and ever-more furrowing forehead.

Bravo continues his taunting tirade. “Liliana told you the whole time but you ignored her. Not only that, you had her locked up in an insane asylum where, under Barbara’s orders, they kept her drugged up for years, killing her spirit, the aim of Dr. Obregon, who would administer them to her. Obregon was the puppet for your dear wife’s orders. You see, Gonzalo? Everything has been a lie. Liliana wasn’t crazy. No! You all drove her to it!”

--And nope. He isn’t done yet. He's just gettin' started. “Now, we should talk about Eduardo Juarez. Do you remember him? Soledad’s son, who never intended to abuse Fernanda. Barbara made up the whole thing to keep a tight rein on his mother.” Gonzo manages to ask why Barbie kept Soledad away. Art explains it was because Sole and Padre Bosco were the only ones who knew of his existence and it was extremely important for him that they never revealed it to anyone. Bravo’s power was based on it. “--and B-B-Barbara? “--Ha! That woman has belonged to me since she was twelve.” “—W-What do you mean that she has been yours?” “—Exactly that, Gonzalo. I took her out of the reformatory a few days after she burned down the house she and her parents lived in. She burned them up. I raised her and trained her so that she would be who she is.” Gonzo struggles to comprehend. “My…my wife?” “—Yes, Gonzalo. Therefore, the first task was for us to get rid of Monserrat.”

Bravo struts and preens. “You see, Gonzalo. It was all a big lie. And, since we’re speaking plainly, I will clarify for you that she… she isn’t named Barbara. That was the name she used with you these past fifteen years. Her name is really Rebeca Sanchez.” Gonzo thrashes about and strains to catch a breath. “—Rebeca…Sanchez? (Beep, beep, beep! That monitor is bleeping off the scale by now and still no one has come in to check on it.) “--The woman who…pressed charges…against…Camilo?” “—Exactly! The grandmother of your future grandchild.” Gonzo wheezes uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, La Barbie is trying to negotiate with Fernanda by phone while Fer is still in her meeting with Bosco and Fr/Ed. “Don’t try to act smart, Fernanda! You know who has my daughter, or otherwise, how do you explain why Padre Bosco went to visit Damian? He’s told me how to get her back. Are you interested in finding out, yes or no?” Fer agrees to come by and discuss the plan with Barb ASAP. Franco offers to go with Fer but she says it’s time she learns to confront her problems alone. “—We’ll see each other later back at the hospital.”

Back in Gonzo’s hospital room, Gonzo’s monitor is beeping faster and faster. Gonzo at last finds enough strength to mouth a “no puede ser” in disbelief and Artie gleefully chides him for it. “Denying the truth is something only a boy would do, not an old man on his death bed.” Everything he’s told him, Art says, is the truth. “I have never lied. There is no weapon more forceful than the truth. One learns that when he’s born a bastard—and banished [desterrar]!!”

Art grins ghoulishly and says he himself is going to be a grandfather. “I, the bastard, will have the privilege of seeing him raised” and BTW, the child he is referring to, he informs Gonzo, is Aurora and Santiago’s--another belly blow for Gonzo. “Yes, I am Aurora’s father, and Barbara, your faithful wife, is her mother.” The monitor is beeping like crazy now. (So did Artie bribe the charge nurse or are they all taking taco breaks or what? There’s still no sign of the nursing staff.) Gonzo says he refuses to listen to any more, but Artemio happily reminds him he doesn’t exactly have a choice in the matter. “Now we should talk about Franco Santoro. His real name is…Eduardo Juarez, the son of Soledad Cruz!” --More gasping from Gonzo.

Back in Bosco’s parish office, the padre advises Eddie it’s time to tell Fer the truth about his identity. Bosco says he feels guilty for all the harm he’s caused by advising Sole to keep silent all those years. “Padre, I told you already. Fernanda is going to hate me.” Bosco says she’ll get over it in time and will thank him for being honest with her. Eddie remains unconvinced.

Art continues his discourse on the agrieved Eduardo. “Just like me he’s devoted to destroying the Elizalde family because like me he was condemned to the pain of being banished.”

Outside in the hallway, Gardenia comes back to watch over Gonzo, but “Nurse” Hilda is there as lookout and tells her that he’s being seen by a specialist right now. She persuades Denia to wait in the waiting room till she comes get her. Inside, meanwhile, Artemio goads Gonzo. Gonzo chokes out a request to speak with Eduardo. Art mocks him and says, sure he’d like to fulfill the wish of a dying man, but he will be depriving him of the pleasure of his last request. Gonzo grabs his chest. “There’s no time now for you to speak to Eduardo Juarez because soon you are going to die—and he also!” Suddenly Gonzo starts flatlining. Artemio smiles over at him and leers. (Uh, crash carts? Code blue? Anybody there at the other end of this monitor?) Bravo coolly walks out of the hospital room and into the quiet hallway with Hilda and his henchman.

They finally call the emergency just as Bravo hits the nurses’ station and sees Santiago come out of the elevator. He and Uncle Artie exchange glares. Art comes in close and tells Santi that he’s sorry about his father then adds that the next to die will be Franco Santoro. Dr. Castellanos, the heart specialist, arrives and rushes off to Gonzo’s room. (Still no crash cart or crash team uh, but sounds like it’s been ordered. Sheesh.)

Back at the hacienda, Barbie’s lit up and fuming (literally as well as figuratively). She tells Fer, with a bit of embellishment, that the conditions Dam set for them to get Rory back is Fer’s agreeing to go back with him. Fer refuses and says it’s impossible. In between puffs of sophisticated plumes off her Virginia Slim, Barbie says she realizes it is, but if Fer at least pretends to go back with Dam, then they would be able to negotiate and rescue Rory. Barb promises to sign over to Fer all the stock options Gonzo put into Barbie’s name once Aurora is back safe with them. Fer says she’ll have to think about it. Just then Fer gets a call from Santiago and says she’s got to race back to the hospital. Papi’s taken a turn for the worse. Barb wants to know what’s going on. “—Good news for you. My father’s dying.” Fer slams the door behind her and races off to the hospital. Barb says to herself well, she'd rather he would have died already, and then takes another puff.

A while later, family and friends are waiting at the hospital for word from the doctor about Gonzo’s condition. Santi comes out and tells Fer and the others that there’s still no word from the doctor. Fer says she doesn’t understand how this could have happened since Daddy was responding so well. Denia guiltily explains to the two of them that she was told to stay out of the room because the doctor and nurse told her they were doing studies on him. Estev calms her down as Fer turns to Fr/Ed and asks if he thinks they should let Lili know about her papi’s situation. He says no because her sister’s in no condition to get this kind of news, least of all with La Hiena there; it would only upset her.

Cerisola tells Barb that he blames himself for causing Gonzo’s heart attack. If it weren’t for him telling Gonzo about the charges Aurora’s mother --some woman named Rebeca Sanchez-- made against Cadmilo, Gonzo wouldn’t be at Death’s door like this. Barbara lies about not knowing who he’s talking about and adds that if she were in her shoes she’d have done the same because, even though Cad’s her stepson, he ought to pay for his crime. (Yeah, La Barbie is definitely selective when it comes to crime and punishment.)

Speaking of said delinquent, we beam over to the prison where Cad is rudely awakened from his beauty sleep by one of the other prisoners getting a good yuk or two out of warning him about what they do to rapists in there.

Back at the hospital, Anibal arrives right before the doctor comes out with his diagnosis. Looks like Gonzo made it through but will need a double by-pass. The gang all go to the chapel where Padre Bosco leads them --everyone but Bitch Barbie-- in prayer for a successful surgery.

At the same time, Lili wakes up from a nightmare. She tells Martina that she was dreaming that her mother had come to get her father. Martina’s explanation is that it was a bad dream from eating too many corn tamales at supper. (Under other circumstances, I’d probably have to agree….)

In the lounge at the hospital, AnyBalls is apparently impatient to get his mits on Jr.’s money. He tells Cerisola to give him access to his son’s inheritance right away. Cerisola says he cannot. AB will just have to wait till the child is born. Pris cannot believe what a Milk dud she married. Pris asks him why he thinks he has to rush things. AB tells her to butt out and then tells Cerisola he needs it to be able to take charge of the company while his father is recuperating. Cerisola says too bad, but it won’t change a thing. He will still have to wait for the baby to be born and legally registered as the first Elizalde grandchild as stipulated by the agreement.

The heart specialist eventually comes back out from the operation which, he tells them all, was a success. Gonzo will be in Intensive Care and all visitors are strictly prohibited. Everyone but Fer and Santi start to leave. Fr/Ed says he’ll be back after taking Padre Bosco back to the parish. Once they’re all gone, Santi tells Nanda that he thinks the one responsible for their father’s heart attack was Artemio Bravo. He says he ran into him at the elevator as he was coming out of Gonzo’s room; and he was with a nurse and a doctor who must have been the people who told Denia to leave Gonzo’s room. He mentions the threat Bravo made on Franco’s life. Once Fr/Ed returns they inform him that Bravo was the last one to speak to Gonzo. Fr/Ed agrees that whatever Bravo told Gonzo must have caused his heart attack. Fer says she doesn’t doubt it and mentions he was even cynical enough to “pay his respects” to Santi afterward.

Fer sends Santi off for coffee so she can have a private word with Fr/Ed who offers to hire security round the clock for her father now. She says fine, that’s the only way she’d feel comfortable leaving to meet with Damian anyway. Fr/Ed mentions that Padre Bosco called the prison director and requested a safe place for her to meet with Dam. He wants to know then what Barbara and she discussed at the hacienda. Nanda explains the deal with Damian and adds that Barbara also promised to sign her over the stock from Lactos once Aurora’s back safe and sound. Fr/Ed looks at her. “Barbara won’t be able to sleep tonight, but not because of Gonzo. It will be because she’s anxious to see her daughter again knowing that it will depend totally on you!”

Barbara, meanwhile, is back at the hacienda and telling herself that she no longer needs Fernanda Elizalde because she now has her own infallible means of getting her daughter back, and that neither Fer nor Santiago will ever again see Rory in their entire cursed existence.

Still in the hospital lounge, Fer tells Fr/Ed that she has two things more to ask him and that she hopes it will be the last time she ever has to ask him anything again. Fr/Eddie smiles accommodatingly and says he’s game for whatever she wants. He tells her he is thrilled she’s begun to use the familiar “tú” with him again. She ignores that and says the first thing is that after speaking with Dam, she wants to speak with Artemio Bravo. The second favor is that once that’s over, she needs to ask him to disappear for good! Fr/Ed frowns and is muy, but muy, negatively impactado at the apparent rejection.

Fer tells him she has her reasons for asking. Obviously hurt and disappointed, he says he’d like to know what they are. Fer tries to explain. “I know to you I must seem like the most ungrateful person you know, but I need your word that you will leave.” “—Why?” “—Because your life is in danger. Santiago told me that Bravo says you will be the next to die. That man always keeps his word.” Fr/Eddie says he still doesn’t understand why she needs to speak with Bravo. “Absursdly enough, he’s a blood relation and has tirelessly persisted in the destruction of our lives--” Fr/Ed wonders if she thinks by talking to him she is going to suddenly make him see the light and change his evil ways. Nanda says of course not, but she’s going to let him know that she’s aware he was the one who tried to kill her father and that she will be going to the police. She’s had enough of living under his malevolent yoke. (I just love it when these writers finally manage to put $4 words in their character’s mouths.)

The next day Barb is back at Bravo’s and still nervously smoking up a storm. She says she’s worried that Damian will try to get even with her by giving Fernanda the address where he’s keeping her daughter. Artie sneers that he’s not going to leave it up to Fernanda to free his daughter. Barb asks what he’s got in mind. Bravo says, “Let’s just say that today is not the day for conjugal visits at the prison.” Barbara then complains that Damian has become a headache for them and their plans. Art comments that essentially, neither he nor Santoro are useful to them anymore. If he does come across her whereabouts, he will inevitably hand her over to the Elizalde’s. So, that being the case, Bravo says he’s just going to have to make Gallardo an offer he can’t refuse.

In the meantime, Fernanda meets with Damian in the warden’s office alone. Dam thanks her for coming. She says she didn’t exactly have a choice and wants to know if he knows where Aurora is. He says first she has to make a deal with him. Fer says if he means he wants her to agree to go back with him, the answer is “N-O, NO.” Dam looks wounded. “--Wouldn’t you say our destinies are still connected?” Fer says there’s a big difference between destiny and damnation. Damian replies that it seems that there is something more behind that pretty face of the foolish little rich girl he used to know. “Tell me why Aurora is so important for La Hiena.” Before Fer will answer she wants proof he has her. Dam says to call her step-mother. Barbara will tell her whatever she asks her. Fer takes him up on it and calls Barb.

In her office at Lactos, La Barbie has just opened up an envelope with a photo taken of the aforementioned kidnap victim. Barbara’s hands are shaking as she answers her cell. She screams at Fer that a picture of Rory has just arrived. In full panic mode Barbara begs Fer to give Damian anything he asks. “—Whatever he asks for, please!!!” Fer puts down her cell phone, obviously shocked at the change in the woman. Dam tells her he now is ready to listen and Fer obliges. “Aurora is Barbara’s daughter.” Damian is stutter-and-stammer impactado.

Once Damian gets his wits about him he tells Fer she’s just given him some excellent news, and with it a great opportunity to get even with La Hiena, “the unfortunate b!tch.” “--I’m going to make her eat dirt, make her pay for all those miserable years I spent working under her (Er…not to mention those over and in the proverbial clover, but I digress…) suffering her insults and her humiliations, having accused me of fraud at Lactos, shooting me mercilessly in the leg, and now this. They arrested me for terrorism after she had asked me to get her all those explosives. (For a good price he forgets to add, but no need to quibble now.) --But she’s going to pay very dearly for it now, because I’m going to get her where it hurts her most, with her daughter!”

Ah-wah-wah is once again tearfully praying to the virgencita for a miracle that will save her and her child from Damian’s boogy-men so that she can be reunited with the man she luhhhhvs. (It’s crunch time and the virgencita has been working overtime with all the Elizalde requests lately, but Viewerville is certain she’ll manage to squeeze her in somewhere.)

Santi, meanwhile, has come to pay Cad a visit in prison. Cad laughs and says it’s a good thing there’s a reinforced glass panel between them right now because it’s obvious from the look in his eyes that Santi is ready to jump him. Santi says he’s got that right. He’s more than ready to beat him to a pulp for raping the woman he loves, but he wants to know why Cad did it. Cad shrugs and says he won’t deny he always was enticed by her, but really, by that time he was interested in Loafly, and only did it because La Hiena insisted. “She was the one who set it all up. She wanted to get rid of Aurora because according to what she told me, the girl was a menace to the family. She worked it so that Aurora would be alone, even gave me knock-out drops to make the whole business go simpler.”

Cad’s in a hopeful mood. “Little bro, it’s not a nice place here, and Barbara promised to get me out, but things have gotten complicated. The supposed mother of Aurora, some woman named Rebeca Sanchez, has brought charges against me for what I did. Help me, little bro, because I am really sorry for what I did already. Please? Tell Barb to keep her word. Please????” Santi frowns and tells him he’s wasting his time because Rebeca Sanchez, the woman claiming to be Aurora’s mother, is none other than Barbara Greco herself, and the one who murdered their mother.

Cad’s just been kicked in the proverbial gonads; his mouth is back to catching flies as his beady little eyes go wide with the realization that he’s been screwed six ways from sundown (or will be once the big boys in the back get hold of him). Yes, indeed. His fate is sealed and as solid as the bullet-proof glass wall in front of him. (Hmm. What was that prisoner saying about rapists in prison?)

Speaking of prison visits, Fer now tells Dam that whatever revenge he’s planning with Aurora is only going to harm the family more than even Artemio Bravo and Barbara Greco have. Bravo, she explains, is the man for whom she was working, and they have caused them harm for years. “Following his instructions for revenge, Barbara killed my mother, locked my sister away for years in a psychiatric clinic, and my father is now fighting for his life. Damian, if there is anything good left in you, please hand me over Aurora, because she belongs with Santiago. Please.” Dam turns to the window and begins to consider things in a new light as Fer continues her plea. “In your hands, Damian, are people who might marry, might be happy, or rather, they might be what we could never have been.”

Dam turns to face Fernanda and admits that even though she might never believe it, he did fall in love with her. She sighs. He did commit numerous mistakes, he admits, and so he wasn’t worthy of her. She tells him she doesn’t think now is the time to talk about themselves and again asks him to help her. “All right. I’ll give instructions to get her and so you should be able to have her back at the hacienda by this afternoon.” The guards come to return him to his cell. He gives her a final farewell. “Hasta siempre, Fernanda.” Fer picks up her purse and leaves.

Back at Bravo’s manse, Art’s got Barb on the phone. He tells her the situation with Damian is beginning to percolate [actually, cocinando = cooking]. As for Gonzalo Elizalde, since there’s such a contingent of security around him at the hospital, he says Barb, as the grieving wife, will be the only one likely to be able to break through it to get to him. She asks what she’s supposed to do. “--Make sure you are left a widow!”

Fer meets Fr/Ed back at Las Animas now and tells him she’s sure that Barbara Greco is no doubt playing both sides against the middle and of course won’t let them in on it. Fr/Ed asks her if she’s afraid that once Fer finds out where Aurora is that she’ll double-cross them and make off with Rory. Fer says that’s about the size of it because Barb’s degree of selfishness won’t allow her to let her or Santi anywhere near her daughter and grandchild. She can only hope that Dam will keep his word because Santi and Rory’s happiness depend on it.

Dam, meanwhile, gives Jacobo a call and tells him there’s been a change in plans. He wants Jacobo to take Aurora back to the hacienda and personally hand her over to Fernanda. Jacobo wonders what this is all about. “Let’s just say she caught me in a good mood.” Jacobo warns him that his generosity is going to cost them a lot of moo-lah. Dam says not to worry about that because once Anyball’s kid inherits, they’ll get it back with interest.

Back at Las Animas Fer demands to speak with Bravo. Fr/Ed says he’s worried that the man intends to hurt her. “And do you want me to continue being scared and intimidated by him until he’s done away with all of us?” Fr/Eddie gives in and says fine, just let him stick with her while she’s there. She says sure thing. He calls Bravo to arrange it and tells him he has to see him immediately about a personal matter.

At the prison, Damian is now “visited” by a bunch of oversized goons as he returns to his cell. Lead Goon says, “They sent us to have a chat with you.” Damian’s suspicious. “—What kind of roaches are you?” “--The finest.” Lead Goon takes out a thin rubber strap while the others force Damian’s hands behind his back. They begin to beat him and ask for the address. When he doesn’t answer Lead Goon puts the rubber strap around Damian’s neck and starts strangling him. (Gotta admit it’s tough to answer if they’re crushing your vocal cords and making it impossible to breathe at the same time, but then, these aren’t the brightest baddies, just the biggest). As the camera fades out Dam is left to his fate and Viewerville is left to wonder if he will break or go to his grave with it.

A while later, Bravo gives somebody an address at 127 Alta Tension. (Is this for real or are the writers playing with us? #127 High Pressure Street?) He tells the person to go there right away. He then asks, “What about the guy?” An ambulance speeds away from the prison. The warden asks his head guard if anybody saw anything. The commander says apparently it was a well-paid job because nobody is saying anything. The warden asks about Damian then. “He can’t speak. He was nearly dead. [reventado] The paramedic doesn’t think he’ll manage to make it to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, Lucio gets a tipoff from Jacobo about Dam’s little run-in at the prison. He hangs up and starts to pace. “This is going to get ugly.” Always a survivor, Lucio starts thinking about an out.

Fernanda enters Artemio’s lair. Art’s a little surprised as he realizes who it is. “Welcome…Fernanda Elizalde.”

At the hospital, Babs is back in business and feigns concern over Gonzo’s condition with the specialist. She asks if she can see her husband for just a second. The doctor falls for the act and leads the way. As he disappears around the corner, Santi grabs Babs’ arm at the last second and warns her not to try anything because he will make sure she regrets it. She breaks free and sneers back at him before catching up with the doctor.

Fernanda fearlessly faces off with her Uncle Artie as Fr/Ed stands guard off to the side. “After what you did to my father, I want to know what else we can expect from you!” Art compliments her on her directness and says he appreciates it because that way they won’t squander [malgastar] their time. “I know that you went to speak to my father, and whatever you told him provoked a new attack and it has him at the edge of death.” “—Yes, your brother saw me come out of the place. I was with him, but that doesn’t make me responsible for him being at Death’s door [agonizar].” The self-righteous gargoyle looks down his nose at her. “If your father dies, it won’t be I who has caused his death, but the truth!” Fer wrinkles her little nose and screams up at him. “—What ‘truth?’ ” “--The same truth that you’ve been uncovering…thanks to your… er… friend, Franco Santoro.”

Nanda asks if Art means Ana Gregoria’s diary. He says that’s part of it, yes. “--Or, rather, the start of it.” Fer angrily hisses at him that her father isn’t to blame for what her grandparents did. Bravo replies that neither is she to blame for her father’s mistakes, but she’s suffering because of them all the same. (More egomaniacal claptrap here that I’m at a loss to decipher. Just go with it guys.) “--Neither am I to blame for what my mother did, but here I am. We are all the heirs of what pertains to our parents. That includes despicable acts!” “--Certainly if my father had known about you he’d have—“ Bravo cuts her off. “—He would have done the same with me as they did to your sister Liliana! --Or don’t you remember what he did when she dared to tell him what they were going through at your home at that moment?”

Artie doesn’t stop even to catch his breath. “Your sister had the courage to confront Barbara and it was she who heard the order I myself gave Barbara over the phone to kill your mother! That weakling Gonzalo preferred to take the word of a newly arrived employee over that of his own daughter. –What were you expecting Fernanda? That I would say to him: ‘I’m your brother. Our parents were undesirable scoundrels and I need a family’? --Ah, come on, Fernanda! You always lived in a fantasy world!” Fer refuses to respond to the insult. “--Just when are you going to put an end to your vengeance?” “—Very soon. There’s just one thing left to do. I’ve got to have my daughter, Aurora, at my side.” Fernanda is finally at a loss for words.

Jacobo gets back to the hideout and yells at Lucio to get Rory ready so they can take her with them. Just then machine gun bullets start piercing the front door to the shack and Jacobo takes cover. The gunmen break in and demand to know where she is. Jacobo doesn’t realize it, but Lucio and Aurora are now truckin’ through the back woods, a step ahead of Bravo’s henchmen. Lucio pushes her to keep her moving.

Back at Bravo’s, Fer reminds Art that just because Santi’s son is also Art’s grandchild, that doesn’t give him the right to take him away from Santi. “Let’s stop talking about rights and talk instead about ‘justice’, Fernanda. Years ago Altagracia and Jeronimo cut me off from my mother. You don’t think that now it is fair that I take my grandson away from you?” Fer is ready to scratch the old troll’s eyes out when Fr/Ed steps in and tells her it’s time to go because they aren’t going to get a thing from the man. Bravo tells him that’s being excessive. He’s just given them a banquet full. Fer says well, then he should understand why they don’t intend to thank him for his ‘gift’. She throws a curse at him in ever increasing decibels. “What I will assure you of, though, is that with an unlucky SOB like you, whose heart is so full of hate and vengeance, God will deny you the privilege of ever enjoying your grandchild!!”

In his room in Intensive Care, Bab’s tries to sweet-talk the nurse into leaving her alone with Gonzo. The nurse has specific instructions not to leave the patient alone for even an instant. Barb decides to take a different tack and leans over his bed. “Vida, do you hear me?" He moves his finger yes but his eyes are still closed. He opens his eyes and slowly moves his head around for a good squint. “--You’re in the hospital. You gave us a terrible fright, but very soon you’re going to be fine.” Gonzo starts gasping for air through his oxygen mask and his eyes go wide. He begins to scream at her. “Murderer! Murderer!” Unfortunately for him, his voice is muffled under that mask and the noise from the monitors around him doesn’t help things. The nurse continues working diligently on her paperwork in the corner and (of course) doesn’t hear. (Viewerville is on the edge of its seat, to see if the Barbot will surface and make her play now. Unfortunately, Viewereville will have to wait till the finale to find out.)

Fer and Fr/Ed walk out onto the curb in front of Bravo’s to discuss what just went on inside. She tells him she wants him to take her to the police station to report Artemio to the police for having murdered her mother. Fr/Ed doesn’t like the idea and starts to say something but she stops him short. “NO! It’s obvious that neither he nor Barbara will give up Aurora. My brother’s going to lose her and I am not going to allow it!” Fr/Ed gives in and says fine, then she can count on him and he’ll act as her witness. She turns around suddenly to face him and says, “ Ok. And just how are you going to sign the complaint –as Franco Santoro or as Eduardo Juarez????” (Ruh-rohI) It’s finally come to Jesus time for the Edster…..

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. So Fer finally lets Eduardo know she knows his real name. I was wondering who would let the cat out of the bag. I thought Artemio would tell her and she would say, "yeah, I know that. Tell me something I don't know." :)

Before these last couple of capitulos, I was certain they would actually kill off Gonzo. Now, I don't know. I can't believe they would keep on bringing him back from the brink, only to do him in. Of course, Barb may be able to do her task of finishing him off just by being there. I have trouble believing they would even allow her to go into Gonzo's room. Seems like Fer and Ed should have left instructions to keep her out. Hmmm.... Where's that beanie. Ok, there, much better.

I just hope Lucio is not about to be redeemed by getting Aurora out of the house. No way. Has Damian found redemption?

Great recap, as always, Jardinera!

Jeff, I agree that Gonzo is looking like he'll make it. I think it would have to be that way or else Fer is going to be too grief stricken to have the truly happy ending with Eduardo.

I felt sorry for Gardenia. She really did try her best, actually facing down Babs at one time so she couldn't be alone with Gonzo. But, really, when a person in a nurse's uniform tells you a specialist has to examine the patient, who would ask to stay in the room?

I think they also need a scene of Gonzo and Lili (mostly recovered from her ordeal) reuniting.

The big question is how they finish off Bravo and Babs, for surely they have to die.

I too thought that Gonzalo will kick the bucket. Maybe in the finale who knows?

One thing that's driving me nuts is Babs all of a sudden smoking cigarettes when she never did before.(Lucero does not even know how to smoke correctly) Kind of like a WTF? moment for me. Damian just got his comeuppance and will be D.O.A. at the hospital. Jacobo will be shot by Artemio's guards.

Looks like Lucio is on the run and with the prize. That dude is a wild card. No one knows what he will do and his allegiance is to himself now. The episode went by so quickly that i'm wanting for more.

This final had better be good.

I don't think Babs will die. I think she will make a deal to take care of Artemio or something. I think Lucio and Artemio will kill each other. That is something the viewers will not expect and will lead to a different ending. Instead of being the same predictable ending. i'm gearing up for the final.

Thank you, Jardinera for a super complete, exciting recap.

Although the doctor said absolutely no visitors, they let Barb in. And all she had to do was stand there in front of Gonzo to get his heart monitor jumping again.

I actually feel a little sorry for Damian, who wasn't as bad as some of the others. I wonder if he'll survive.

We have so many possibilities left, with Lucio, Barb and Artemio on the loose. I also hope Liliana does something dynamic, to show she's all the way back. Or maybe Sylvestre. I always like to see the little guys do well in the end.

So Ed finally knows that Fer knows. Well, he has one more episode to win back her love. Will he do it with words, or with deeds? Or both? I can't wait.

And we can't forget Vladimir. I'm sure he'll be back, too.

It would seem like something/someone is going to burn now that Barb is playing with fire again.

I think the Aurora/Santi child will get the money. After this, I think Pris will be sure to announce their child is not Anibal's, so it will not get any money. The other child will then be the first true grandchild and get the 40 percent. If Barb did give the other 60 to Artemio, then perhaps Aurora will get that 60 percent because she is Artemio's daughter and he buys it in the finale.

Good call on that Jeff. Maybe Aurora will end up with the controlling interest after Artemio gets nailed. I don't know if a will has been made or revised though to account for her.

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia, or if there was a will, she would have been written out after Artemio thought she died? Hmm.

Anyway, we should see Vlad again as Pris will probably drop Anibal.

Doris... The goons were working for Artemio and giving Damian an offer he couldn't refuse.
I think it was one of Lucio's friends from prison that called him up and told him his jefe, Damian, ran into a little trouble there.
Also... agree, can't imagine Slofia doing that.
And, say what! There'll be a boda in the final!! ;)

Wow, what a recap, thanks so much Jardinera.

If Gonzo pulls through can't he rescind the transfer of assets on the grounds of Barbi's actions, i.e. murder, etc. Then Gonzo can do the right thing and give his assets to his children and future grandchildren (except maybe Aniball - what a creep that just keeps on giving).

rsk

Thanks for not spoiling everything Doris. 99.9% of these things will end up in a wedding. So will it be Santiago and Aurora? Eduardo and Fernanda? Or both?

We have got to tie up the loose ends on Monday.

OT:
I'm just wondering why FELS never had a 3 or 2 hour Gran Final. IT would have been over on the Friday if they did it.... And Meps would have started on a Monday instead of Tuesday.

Ibarramedia

deleted my earlier comment because I had info that did not belong... Sorry! and am reposting now....

Jardinera – thank you for the recap! What a night, eh?

!Vaya! Fer tells Ed she knows who he is! I never saw that one coming.

Since when did Barbie start smoking??? I was WT*? also.

I'm so glad Dam helped Fer get Aurora back. Why did the goons beat up Damian? (???)

I loved Fer's confrontation with Artemio; she's so courageous. (can you picture Slow-fia from FELS doing anything like that?)

I won't be home on Monday night, so I watched the final episode on YouTube today.

In honor of our "No Spoilers" code, all I will say is that it is:
1.) buckets of fun,
2.) quite exciting,
3.) very satisfying,
4.) and Lucero was great,
5.) and don't FFWD-> through anything at the end, or you'll miss some nice stuff.

The inheritance might hinge on Bab's correct name. I noticed when she filed a complaint against Camilo, she used Rebecca Sanchez. An aside, in Mad Men, Don Draper was told when signing his new three year contract that it couldn't be enforced because "Don Draper" isn't his real name. Of course, one shouldn't use television programs for legal advice!

Milk dud.....Jardinera, that was priceless!

Thanks for the detailed recap. I missed the episode last night but found it earlier today on trusty youtube.

It seems pretty obvious that Santi's baby will get the money if and when they find out that Anibal's baby isn't an Elizalde. And since the half that was Barbie's was going to Art he could give it to his grandchild. If doesn't then what will happen to that 60%?

I was too also surprised that Barbie was smoking. It is probably because she is so desperate about getting Aurora back.

Poor Damian though really. I guess there has to be more victims in this double crossing game.

I am glad Fer stayed strong when confronting Art. It just goes to show that not everyone will be afraid of him.
--TF

Jardinera, thanks for the great effort that you put into your superb recaps. I admire those who don't have the curiosity to read the end of the book first. I've watched the end several times on video. The videos are not always complete but most of them are 4 episodes. The final is 14 on the video. So my assumption is that the show will be a full 3 hours.

Thanks to all of the recappers and those who comment. It makes it fun. I only allow myself one novela per evening. I'm not sure I want to watch Sortilegio - but probably will as the time is convenient for me.

Lynne

Fernanda has a temper like a pitbull alright. She also drips with sarcasm at the right time.

Ibarramedia

What a great episode it was! I am easily able to forget that Artemio and Daffy are played by the same guy, so he's doing a great job. Fernanda spitting nails, also great. Fr/Ed, oh go to Spain and have some acting lessons and lay off the steroids, they're affecting your brain. Santi, stop rolling your eyes. loved it all, can't wait for Monday.

It was a great episode indeed. And I know you said that in jest and sarcasm, but Eduardo/Franco is not big enough to be attributed to steroids. Quite frankly, he looks small to me. I think I have 60-80 pounds on him and I lift weights intensely. And no. I use no enhancements since i'm not a professional athlete who has to do this for a living.

Ibarramedia

Doris,
Artemio's goons beat up Damian to find out where Aurora is.

Looks like Artemio has goons everywhere.

Gonzo will not die, he has to make up for the terrible things he allowed happen to Lili.

Babs got the inheritance on false pretenses & you can't benefit when you commit murder. Gonzo can chg his will anyway.

Marvelous recap, Jardinera, especially for those of us unfortunate enough to have missed the episode. Thanks for all the details and the humourous asides.

Fer tells Fr/Ed that Artie is out to kill him and, of course, she then asks him to accompany her when she goes to confront big bad Artie. How did she know Art wasn't ready to finish off Fr/Ed at that moment since Art said Santoro wasn't of any use to him any longer (though she didn't know he said that.) Duh, beanie time or did I miss something.

Damian must survive. They can't kill off Damian because I have a soft spot for him in my heart since he is such a hilarious villain and, most importantly, because we have had NO serious cell phone tossing or smashing.

GinCA

Yet another fabulous recap, Jardinera. Thanks for helping us relive it in detail.

So what's the name for our TN hospital? Our Lady of Perpetual Neglect? The medical protocols (or whatever the correct term is) are so ridiculous.

Why have we never seen Babs smoking before? I guess we were supposed to see how tense she is, what with her future all on the brink, but not believable. If she's a smoker, surely she would have broken open a pack by now.

I wouldn't mind living in TNland, where everything happens so quickly. Anibal's in Rio, then whoosh, he's back at Gonzo's beside. No problemo. Gonzo needs surgery? Whoosh, it's over, the doctor's in the hallway reporting to the family. I guess it's time to reposition the beanie and just let the action flow.

Speaking of going with the flow, I loved this line: "More egomaniacal claptrap here that I’m at a loss to decipher. Just go with it guys."
Artemio is a villain in the grand style (very melodramatic). Fer was great during her confrontation with him.

Fer was also good with Damian, and he showed some residual goodness in agreeing to help with Aurora. I love Sergio when he's a good guy, and still have a soft spot for him when he's bad. He probably didn't survive the attack, so there's a stray tear running down my face.

Great ending for this epi, with Fred facing Fer's tough question to him. Can't wait until Mon.
La Paloma

Ooops, humorous not humourous. Sorry. GinCA

Great. complete recap, Jardinera, thanks mil veces.

What a lively episode. I was so into it that I had to jump on youtube and watch a bit of the gran final, just a bit. No spoiler here.

I was kinda sorry to see Damian's rough treatment. I've said all along that despite the bad things he's done, he did love Fernanda. I think that giving Abora up to the Elizaldes proves it. He must have given the cucarachas the address, tho, but under the circumstances...oh, and he did participate in Vlad's "death".

I'm really looking forward to Babs getting hers, she is sooo deserving, and Lucero is doing a better job of sinking into desperation and panic than she has done in anything else up to now.

Lucio really is a wild card here, whodathunk that he would become crucial to the outcome?

I'm thinking that Gonzo will survive and reconcile with his spawn, and truly realize his mistakes. He's already admitted his poor parenting, the theme/moral has to become complete for it to have full effect, and his death would not contribute to the happy ending we know is coming.

I'm still hoping that la mera mera petatera (Gardenia) gets to do something heroic and noble before it's over.

Fernanda (Silvia) rocks!

I am really looking forward to el gran final, especially after Doris' recomendation.

I'm not sorry to see Damian go. I just can't stand the dude. Lucio need to get his too. but it seems he is trying to weasel his way out with Aurora. I can see him trying to deal with the other 3 factions of Artemio,Babs, Eduardo and Fernanda and company. But since he is not smart enough, he will bungle that and Aurora might escape. With him without Aurora, it's open season on him.

What will Vladimir do if he returns? Will Anibal be arrested? Interesting scenario. I can see that we may have seen the last of Camilo Elizalde which is a good thing.

How would you rank the scumbags here?

1) Damian
2) Camilo
3) Lucio
4) Anibal
5) Jacobo
6) Vladimir

I left out Artemio and Babs since they are the main antagonists and in category of their own.

I wish I could make a poll on htis board. It would run something like this: Who do you think will have redemption in the end?

A)Babs
B)Damian
C)Anibal

Ibarramedia

Yeah, Artemio Bravo ordered his goons to force Damian to give him the whereabouts of Aurora.

That big bald guy was also on Alborada. He was the guy who whipped Hippolita/Babs in MEPS.

I think he was also the executioner who beheaded La font in Pasion.

Ibarramedia

Thanks for the excellent recap Jardinera!

Milk dud -- good nick for Anibal, Jardinera. :)

no code blue, no crash cart -- this is definitely a telenovela hospital and not "ER"

Pumpkin anvil count -- Camilo (the pumpkin headed horseman) just go another one smashed on his head 1; Gonzo 1; Damian 1, with several more swinging in the breeze...

Jody :)

Perhaps it is time to bring out the death list. I did not think I was going to ressurrect a death list. lol

Murdered by Barbara Greco:

1)Montserrat Elizalde
2)Macario

Killed by Lucio:

1)Rene Manzanares

Murdered Carpio and Nestor:

1) Jairo Rocha
2) Dominga
3) Colombia
4) Ysenia

Murdered by Artemio Bravo's men:

1)Carpio
2)Nestor

Death By illness and Injury:

1) Soledad Cruz
2) Ciro Palafox

Possibly killed by inmates:

1) Damian Gallardo

I did not include Ana Gregoria Bravo, Altagracia Elizalde and Geronimo Elizalde because they are flashbacks....

Ibarramedia

Not as many deaths as FELS. And Fernado Escandon accounted for at least 11-13 of those deaths. Most of the deaths in MEPS are minor characters. Not even minor but brief passing by characters.

Ibarramedia

What a fine recap Jardinera....you were very precise to all that happened.....Thanks a million to all the recappers and commenters...... i am going to buy some popcorn/cold drinks and hubby and i will be by the tv at 8....i am sad that this novela will end....its been a fun trip....I look forward to Sortilegio......And the time frame is right for me too...so far the only ones that have not recieved their just rewards are Artie, Barbie, Lucio,& Anibal....my thoughts are Artie or his men will get Lucio (dead)Barbie will get Artie (dead) Anibal will get barbie (dead) And pricilla will get Anibal, then Priscilla will go to Vladimir....alls well, that end well.... i can hardly wait....
BNinCa

Maybe we should put up odds on who will get what. Las vegas has a line on Artemio's fate.

Ibarramedia

Jardinera, thank you so much for such a complete and entertaining recap!

I just got back from vacation and watched the whole week. Wow! I was surprised there was a hook up before marriage, and where the room and awesome soaking pool came from!

So many revelations. I kind of hope Damian makes it through this. He's only kind of bad. I agree that it seems like Gonzo may last to a happy ending. Obviously there are a few people that still have to go.

All in all vert exciting!

Good Lord! What an episode...I was on the edge of my seat watching it...and you had me on the edge of my seat all over again reading your fine recap, Jardinera.

You did an excellent job of converying the tension of each scene, writing in the present tense as if it were happening before our very eyes.

Others have mentioned "milk dud" but I also loved "would be merry widow".

Smoking Barbie made sense to me. She probably gave up smoking in order to appear wholesome and helpful as the assistant/ future wife of Gonzo. But former smokers will tell you that in moments of high stress and tension, many of them go right back to the cigarettes...and she did. Made perfect sense to me. Even though it's obvious, as Ibarramedia mentioned, that Lucero doesn't actually smoke. She must have hated doing those scenes. Cigarette smoke is NOT good for a singer's throat. (or anybody else's)

LOVED IT that Fernanda waited no longer and flung her knowledge in Eduardo's face. And felt really awful that after his one decent act, Damian was beaten to near death. I hope he survives.

Jardinera...you outdid yourself with this one. Your style and pacing perfectly captured the tension and impact of this episode. Like watching it twice. Wow.

I think the writers have Babs taking up smoking to leave a clue somewhere. Maybe her cigarette butt where Macario was found. I'm sure she doesn't smoke just ordinary cigs & it seems the writers know about DNA o ADN.

Good morning all,

My thoughts on Sergio/Damian. .. He has brought something to his role that no one else in this TN has, HUMOR. I think this has come from the actor not the directing or writing. For some reason we have all decided to follow this silly program, it is good that we have had a few laughs...thanks Sergio.

Ibarramedia, I would have Gonzo on your scumbag list..he put a "scumbag" wife before his children.
On redemption...Vlad wasn't so bad, but he has been in a way redeemed. For me, the writers haven't created nuanced characters, all bad, bad, bad, so it is hard to imagine redemption. If I had to say someone, I would choose, Gardenia. She hasn't been that bad a person but, in order to move the plot along, she has had to make a fool of herself many, many times. After all the aggravation, she deserves some happiness.

¡Buenas días a todos! Manonman, that was chuck full of wrapping up why's and wherefor's this time. Thought I'd never finish the darned thing! My apologies for the x-tra long sizing this time. Couldn't be helped.
========
Doris: Thanks for self-editing, tho' I don't know that it was necessary. Thanks, all the same.
========
Ibarramedia: Enjoy your lists. Couldn't have remembered half the stuff you did. In fact, I didnt'!
======
JeffMN: I was hoping for once a guy like Gonzo would have bought the dairy farm in this episodio, but the tn gods have something else in store for us, I guess. I envision her literally scaring him to death by just putting her fingers on his mask as an implied threat.
==========
Novelera: I don't think Bravo will survive to see his grandchild or Aurora's marriage 'cuz Fernanda has cursed him. JMHO. ; > )
===========
Hombre: Damian IMHO won't survive. He took pleasure in having "killed" his best friend, and he was still eager to get even with Barbie. His only redeeming act was attempting to give back Aurora to Fer and trying to die rather than give up the address to those goons.....
===========
rsk/SandyTn: Hubby and I were tracking with you about this false name thing. Didn't think the documents/transfers would be legal if done under fraudulent circumstances/false identities, etc.

A lot of you are saying better what I have been thinking. In my way of putting it, the deeds are just too bad for redemption!! Most of the bad guys have been involved in " capital murder" in one way or the other. This is a Mexican novela, I can't imagine that any of the really bad guys will be spared death or prison. Doris has assured us that the end will be "quite satisfying", so I can't wait to see what she means by that!!

Sandy in TN

Jody: Definitely something "ER" writers would have hung their head in shame over, if not laughed them off first.
=========
BNinCA: Monday will definitely be a pop 'n popcorn finale for all of us who've slogged through since last spring.
=======
Molly: Been there, done that! Did an 8-episodio marathon when I got back from vacation and was totally trashed from the experience. Wouldn't recommend it to any but the fanatical Caray crowd.
K ; > )
=============
GinCA: You are so on target about Fer and Fr/Ed gallavanting off to Art's for a final face-off after her warning Fr/Eddie how he threatened him already. Fr/Eddie's invisible bulletproof power-shield dissipates only after she gets to tell Uncle Artie off, I guess.
=========
La Paloma: LOL! "Our Lady of Perpetual Neglect".
============
JudyB: Smoking made sense to me, too, although, it should have been brought in to the storyline as a character trait a lot earlier IMHO if it is to be a possible fatal flaw in the finale. //Loved Sergio as the flawed, blue-eyed brave one admitting in the end that he truly loved Fer. BUT his fooling around on her with her step-mother still does not compute in that case....

Vario- you beat me to the mention of Babs' parents.

Comment again about Damian- I've always been a somewhat defendr of his. He has done some bad things- somewhat reluctantly- going along with Babs' plots, etc, the worst was participating in the hit on Vlad. He did that very reluctantly, but he did it. I love the way that Sendal played the part, i love his style- understated, not in your face. I do wish that he could have brought a bit more comedy, especially phone tossing into it, but the scenes with Vlad were excellent. If Dam dies, then the threshold for deserving death will be met by the following- AB, Babs, Jacobo, Milk Dud.
By using that same threshold- the following will not die- Camilo, Lucio, as they did not participate in any fatal plots (that I remember).

Of course, Babs and Arty will die, they are beyond redemption, Babs will probably kill him, her hatered is so strong, it's the only just way to end it. Who knows how Arty will go, doesn't matter as much, as he is despised by all.

I do not consider Vlad a scumbag, to me he is a sympathetic, tho misguided character, there is no mechanism for anything bad to happen to him. He will survive to raise his child, with Pris, away from these people, there are no real ties between Pris/Vlad and los Elizalde, except fro the friendship between Pris and Fer.

I've said it before, Gonzo will survive, there has to be a moral to the story, he has to be redeemed and forgiven by Fer, Lili and Eddy (et al) for having let things happen under his nose, for the pain his inattention caused them.

i don't see any new romances for the remaining faces- no time to finish up those loose ends. Flor and Gardenia will remain single.

Of course, Esif/Venus,Fer/Eddy will be together, as will the granite rocks of stability, Marge and Jacinto. I hope that the last two are somehow rewarded for their stability and support theyv'e gievn the plot, Gardenia and Flor, too.

Gotta get goin...

One quick question for Vario and Ibarra- why is
Vald on the scumbag list? I don't see him in that way...

Also, forgot that Lucio killed RM

Jardinera, I disagree, Damian did not take pleasure in the "death" of Vlad. Remmeber the toast that he did not raise his glass to? He did drink, but to wash away the pain of the thought of having killed his fried. At least that's how I took it. Now I really gotta go...

Dorado: Won't totally disagree with you over Damian. I just thought that the way he snickered with Jacobo about Vlad having little wings and playing his harp immediately after refusing to toast was just as vile and would qualify. : ? )

Are Barbie and Gonzo married? Is their marriage valid in light of Barbie not using her real name?

Dam must die - I don't believe a word he says - he is one of those that will say anything to his benefit.

Will Barbie go up in smoke like her parents and her cigarettes?

Vald's only problem is that he is crazy in love and will make a terrific father is only Pris will let him.

Anyballs is really bad but needs to suffer a lot to redeem himself.

Lucio is on my "to die" list - he is a serial woman abuser - the scum of the earth.

I do hope that DDenia and Flor find someone as nice as Jacinto.

rsk

Scumbag outcome list:

Los Elizalde:

Gonzo -will survive b/c he must face the fact he put a hot piece of tail before his own children

Anibal -will not inherit the 40% because Priscila will reveal the true paternity and leave with Vlad

Camilo - will be raped & killed in prison (or stay in prison for the rest of his life). Camilo can never come back to the Elizaldes.

Elizaldes by Marriage:

Babs: Death or Prison

Damian: Death --he was a lil' too gleeful about Vlad's "death"

Scumbag henchmen:

Lucio: back to prison for you, buddy

Jacobo: shot and killed by Artie's goons, or taking Damian's place in the prison

Perhaps it is time to bring out the death list. I did not think I was going to ressurrect a death list. lol

Good call Variopinta. I was so delirious at the wee hurs of the morning thast I missed some details.

I love how you rated Camilo on a scale of 1-6 with 6 being the worst and Camilo is #15. LMAO. Loved it. That was awesome. :)

Vladimir was in my scumbag list because he exhibited creepy and stalkerish behavior that was geting too dangerous. I would not wait for anything to happen before I act. He may be a harmless tool now. But we still had to be leery and disgusted. Plus he attempted to blackmail Priscilla. He was just to incompetent to go through with it.

Ibarramedia

Great recap as always! Thanks for all the detail Jardinera.

I'm on the edge of my seat here, can't wait for monday where I think Gonzo will live and be redeemed, Damian will not die but will probably stay in jail, he's bad but he's loveable and funny, and redeemed himself by truly loving Fer, and giving her Aurora (or trying).

I like the idea of Barb's new cigarettes starting the flames that will take her down, good one! But our stairs of doom haven't killed anyone yet, what good are giant wide stairs of doom (with a too skinny home depot carpet runner) just sitting there?

Vlad's not bad, just a obsessed and crazy. Will he win Pris' heart through all this innapropriate stalking behavior? That won't be a good lesson in love for all the kiddies out there.

Double wedding? It will have to be right? Mabye triple, with Esteve and Venus, Hey let's make it four with Martina and Dr. Cute!

Did I miss anyone? Poor unrequited Gardenia, will there be nobody for her? Maybe she and Flor will get an apartment together in the big city now that Gardenia is getting a career.

See you all there on Monday, the popcorn sounds like a good idea, but I was really wanting to try to make Tamalitos de Elote in honor of Liliana being free!

Arrgh! Hours. Sorry for my repeated typos.

"Our Lady of Perpetual Neglect"--- ROFLOL! That's a good one.

Lucery did not inhale in those smoking scenes. She's probably not a smoker in real life, to save her voice.

"stairs of doom" were mentioned (by Randy?)... This is one of the few telenovelas where we have not seen (yet) any attempted escaleracide.

I feel like a little kid before Xmas, counting the days & hours. I can't wait for Monday night's Gran Fin, so we can all talk about it. There is one scene, in particular, that is great fodder for snark. BuaHahahaaaaaaa

Excellent recap Jardinera. You make the Novela more interesting then the soap itself, with the way you phrase things. I just wanted to mention something. All along different people commented on loose ends not being tied up yet or not at all. No one mentioned those experiences Aurora was having, while living with Santiago (ie. writing and blood on the mirrors in the bathroom and other strange things. Did she find out yet that she was not nuts, that someone was doing that. Also, I was never sure if it was Barbara that started this, or the maid who did not appear to like her. Anything thoughts on that? Ret

Ret: You're right! Aurora has to find out she was another victime of Barbara's treachery. So far it seems only the mother superior might know that end of it. Don't know if she told that part of Rory's history to Fer yet.

Iberramedia,

In total agreement with your scumbag list...you have quite an earthy way of expressing your thoughts, but I must say, I think you are "right on" with all your scumbag list winners.

Ret and Jardinera --
I think MS told Aurora -- it may have been after MS and Fer had their first meeting where they compared notes on Barbie.

But I could be wrong...

Hot Ziggety Dawg!! What an episode and what a recap!!! Gracias Jardinera! I saw this episode twice and reading it was like watching it again.

I don't know what was the sweetest moment: It's funny, the revelations made tonight were all the things we were fussing about in the first week. As I said earlier in the week, I don't want Gonzo to die without FULLY realizing what a blind p-whipped idiot he's been. I want to see him beg his all his hijos for forgiveness and, doh, I don't know what all else. The ineptitude of the "ICU", damn, I'll leave that to y'all to comment on.

Cad. That anal orifice. He did not recognize the gravity nor was in the least sorry about what he did to Aurora. I'm surprised he was impactada about hearing about his mother's murder, what an all out asshole.

And BRAVO to Nanda!! - non-funny pun intended - for her dressing down of that DEVIL Artemio. You know why his plan for vengeance doesn't make any sense guys? Because he's as DUMB AS GONZO, they ARE brothers, AB just got eeevilness with his dumbness. Nanda was looking at him like, "You big frickin sh*thole of SATAN, you're not making any sense!!" When she gave up and yelled at him, that was priceless. You go girl!!! How valiant, how brave!!

Fr/ed. Umph. Umph. Umph. Man, I don't think you can carry Nanda's pantyhose (anymore). I hope you enjoyed your noche de amor, cause if she listens to me, YOU'LL NEVER GET ANY EVER AGAIN!!!!

Phew. Sorry. Despite the rant, this was a satisfying episode in so many ways. Oh, forgot to say. Just like in DA, I didn't cry, but I found myself feeling sorry for Damian. I think he's a goner.

Thanks again, can't wait for Monday!

Khalilah

Thanks, Jardinera. Well, it's all history on Monday. I hope that Gonzo survives so that he can redo his will and divide his estate among his children and grandchildren. Lili should get a little extra for all her pain and suffering. I think Dam redeemed himself by giving the order to release Aurora to Fer. He finally did the right thing. I don't think he'll survive because he still has a thing for Fer , and we can't have that. Usually the other guy who has been pursuing the heroine eventually dies or disappears . Art and Barbie must die , and it would be poetic justice if they took each other out...and down into the murky depths of hades. [I am envisioning Heronymous Bosch's renderings of a horrible Hades here.] Now Fr'ed knows why Fer has suddenly turned cold to him even though they shared that noche de boda sin boda on Fantasy Island. Before she blurted out her knowledge that he is really Ed, I wonder what he thought about her unexplanable coldness toward him.
One would think that he might be questioning his skilz as a lover as he added 1+1....1] We made love, and now 1] she seems to hate me. Hmmmm...maybe I did it wrong. Doris, thanks for the assurance that we won't be disappointed in tomorrow night's extended finale.

Khalilah: Rant away! Always enjoy them. LOL!

==========
Susanlynn: Leave it to you to consider our 30 yr. old virgin wondering if he'd botched it. On the other hand, Fer wouldn't have known shishkebob from Shinola either! LOL!

Dan and Anibal have to go. Planning Vlad's murder and designating the triggerman are one and the same, murder. Dam has acted his part extremely well ... Sendel is un favorito.

"One would think that he might be questioning his skilz as a lover as he added 1+1.... HAHAHHAHAHAH! Susanlynn! I tell you what, he sho' better have some 'splainin'skilz cause his arse is in deep doo doo!

Khalilah

Getting left out of the inheritance would probably hurt Anyballs more than anything. But, seems like there should be some jail time for paying for Vlad's murder.

I think the biggest hurt for Barb would be to keep her alive, but never seeing Aurora or the nieto.

I think Gonzo still may die... but... Not before meeting up with Lili and begging her and the family for forgiveness.

Dam is probably gone. Just to completely free up Fer for Ed.

Camilo also will be written out of the inheritance since he is probably going to be in prison for life or at least a very long time. And Fernanda sure disowns him and will want nothing to do with him if he ever comes out. Same with Santiago who wants to kill him himself or at least wish him dead. The expression 'You're dead to me' never rang truer than in Camilo's case.

Ibarramedia

Perhaps another poll is in order. A la sportsnation on ESPN. Too bad we have no Michelle Beadle here.

Ok here goes:

Who is your LEAST liked female villain in recent telenovelas? With #1 being most liked.

1) Barbara Greco de Elizalde aka Rebecca Sanchez Fruto aka Babs.

2) Ruth Uribe from FELS

3) Sara De la Cruz from Querida Enemiga

4)Gabriela Acevedo vda. de Elizondo de Escandon from FELS

5)Carlota Esspinoza DE Los Monteros from En Nombre De Amor.

I would not even consider putting in Marcela Valencia and Patricia Fernadez from Betty La fea because I think there are no real villains in the true sense of the word. I'm even on the fence with Ruth but I'm biased with her.

Ibarramedia

Ruth wasn't that bad. She just didn't like Sofia and had the hots for Juan. Her daddy excused every bad thing she did but I don't think she was a "bad" person and I don't recall her killing anyone. She was happy to know that Coyote was her brother. Root was just misunderstood.

#5 Carlota wins hands down.
#4 Is in 2nd place (Gabi)

Barbara doesn't hold a candle to those two.

rsk

Why would Camilo get life or at least a very long sentence. He did a date rape drug on her. I don't even think he did the deed, because he got annoyed when she was humming Santiago's name, as if it were he there and not Camilo. Anyway, here in the states people don't get life or long sentences for that; however if it were my daugher involved, I would say life, maybe even death row.

Camilo's not in jail because of raping Aurora (which he's pretty much told Santiago and Barbara he DID rape her).

Camilo's in jail for beating down Steve Norton and leaving him for dead.. The rape charges are just icing on the cake.

Anon's: Let's not forget the brutal beating of Jacinto all those years ago. Should've been sent to the reformatory for that one but wasn't. If he gets life I hope he lives to be a hundred!

Ibarramedia: Oooh! I'd say Gabi and Sarah are tied. Sarah was a bit more homicidal, and Gabi was more perverse. Yup, a tie.

Maybe this has been covered other days, but the one thing that nags at me is that Aurora and Santi are cousins, yet no one seems overly worried about them having a child. Isn't there some telenovela rule that says cousins cannot get together and have kids? Has that rule been overridden? Or will we find something else out in the Final? It would appear that Artemio is Gonzo's medio hermano and Aurora is Artemio's hija, so that would imply, if the TN rule is in affect, it would have something to do with Santi not being Gonzo's hijo. I know others have suggested that Santi is adopted, but I have been too dense to see that said/suggested anywhere. Perhaps my beanie is too tight? Or perhaps I shouldn't have used the heavy duty aluminum foil. :)

"Dam is probably gone. Just to completely free up Fer for Ed."

Jeff, you are probably right, come to think of it. Our heroine can't get with our hero through divorce, that would be against the Telenovela rules!

But then again she did sleep with our hero as a married woman. What's happening? Are the rules relaxing a bit?

JeffMN: Franco and Santi discussed it and made light of the fact because it would be only a half-cousin. Still screws with the TN rules per say for anything that isn't a novela de época. I have wondered if there will be a surprise about that myself, since Barb admits Aurora's Bravo's daughter. Maybe she really isn't and Barb had a teen-aged lover or an affair with a young security guard.....

Jardinera, that was a stellar recap of a compelling episode. I admire your seemingly effortless style. I'm hoping the finale answers most of our remaining questions.

Ibarramedia, you left out the rest of the fatalities: staff and customers at the tragic bombing of las Copetonas. That should bring the total way up. As for pitbulls, having lived with them for twenty years, I would give that distinction to Artie and Babs for hanging on to their opponents patiently for the past 15 yrs. and I think they may both end up being what the dog fighters refer to as dead game.

Carlos

Jardinera, you must not be watching El Nombre! Carlota glows purple when she is being evil, which is often. She kills without a second thought.

Are you the recapper that buys full lenght DVDs of novellas. If so, where is a good place to find them. I know I read about them somewhere on Caray but today I don't have the patience to look for it. I have a friend that wants the full catastrophe of FEL, believe it or not. Thanks.

"Ruth wasn't that bad. She just didn't like Sofia and had the hots for Juan. Her daddy excused every bad thing she did but I don't think she was a "bad" person and I don't recall her killing anyone. She was happy to know that Coyote was her brother. Root was just misunderstood."

I agreeI like Ruth which I s why I said I was on the fence with her. I was a little bummed that she suffered her fate at the hands of Fernando Escandon.

I have read some discussion on the implications of incestious relations a month ago. A few months before that, I think I brought it up initially. And people started talking about it again as it was evident that Santiago and Aurora were related to the horror of everyone. Right now. They make light of the situation more because

1) it was unintended and they both never knew at the time.

2) The baby is on the way.

3) They love each other. Now this one is a little troubling. Sure the baby is on the way and It is a done deal. You can't undo it. It would be asinine for them to abort the baby in Mexican society. He can be responsible for the baby, but to carry on and marry her is like you know it is incest yet you still want to do it. Just my humble opinion. **Jumps off the semi-soapbox.**

Ibarramedia

Carlos, I intentionally left the other victims out of my count because we have no victim's name and count of the actual dead. I just identified those recognizable by name. Colombia and Ysenia are the 2 other girls from Las Copetonas or the MEPS version of the Bad Love Bar. Kudos to the person who coined that name.

Ibarramedia

If you say LEAST liked, not quite sure what that means, but the one I like the least is Carlota. As far as bad, crazy villains, close call between Carlota, Gabi, and Sarah. I cut Barb a lot of slack because she seems to be the product of her environment. Carlota, Gabi, and Sarah (even though she was found in a garbage bin, she was raised well by the nuns) were bad just because they wanted to be, not force to be.

Jardinera, Thank you for a marvelous recap. You have superb writing skills. I can always count on your recaps to make me feel as if I was watching the episode again--but with a little extra humor on the side.

I took the Babs smoking scenes to be similar to what I have learned from all of you about hairstyles. It was meant to show the slide of her character from a tightly controlled, glossy and (falsely) upper class character back into the desperate, ugly and miserable roots of her upbringing. Though she needs to die, I have felt bad for her. She is like a vicious fighting dog that has bit many and now killed a person; she needs to be euthanized, but still there is the sadness because she is a product of her environment.
BUT, Variopinta--if you are proved correct about the cigarettes and the DNA evidence--it will just go to show that I have way over-thought all of this.

I agree, Dam dying will make things easier for Fer and Eduardo. No trying to get anullments or messy divorces. But I have enjoyed him and the last few moments of Dam with Fer were rather poignant.

Gonzo is the only character that I think will be redeemed. All the other bad guys will die or go to prison. Not sure about Anibal--he might be punished by getting no money ( I doubt he cares about losing Pris) but that surely is not good enough for someone who was involved in murder.

Jeff MN, I too thought Artermio was going to be the one to reveal Eduardo to Fer and she would just blow it off. I'm so glad she threw it in his face herself when he little expected it. I don't think she is really that angry after the initial shock wore off. The way she has been acting by calling him "FRANCO" and baiting him to tell her make me think she will just want him to work on apologizing for awhile before she decides to let him off the hook. And, as has been pointed out, there is not enough time left for her to be angry for too long.

So looking forward to tomorrow. My guilty confession? I arranged a half day off work so I could be home to watch the finale. I couldn't risk not being able to adjust the reception and my captions being unintelligible on my taped version. OK, this has definitely been and addiction.

Barbara

Jeff, what I mean by least liked is like a double edged sword. Least liked because they are more dangerous, done more despicable acts, show less remorse.

For a lack of a better word and by my rankings, I have Babs and Ruth as likable bad girls for one reason or the other. And i can admit my biases to them. And I really don't think Ruth was totally bad just misunderstood and tragic.

Gabriela and Carlota use and hide behind Religion in their psychosis that make them commit those horrible crimes. For the purposes of simplicity, I won't excuse their crimes. and we will go with the flow in our fun poll.

Ibarramedia

Barbara, to be clear, I whole-heartedly agree with you that vicious dogs, fighting or otherwise that attack (not just kill) humans be destroyed. Therefore, by those criteria, Babs should be ... well, dismissed.

Now Gardenia is more of a Jack Russell, cute, annoying, tenacious, defiant, endearing, noisy, loyal, and self-centered. Let's hope they find a good home for her.

Carlos

Besides the smoking showing the slide in Barb's character, I just think she'll set something on fire. The way she was flicking that bic before they showed her smoking, you just know she wants to light something up. That DNA evidence thing is interesting, but I don't think there will be any need for DNA evidence to do anything to Barb at the end. Maybe. :)

I wonder if there will be a rerun of the final next weekend. I think that happened with FELS.

Lynne

Hi everyone! Finally checking in. What an episode! Thanks for the recap Jardinera. So many comments I haven't had time to read them all.

I see no redemption for Babs and AB.

Cadmilo will be somebody's bitch for sure.

Anyballs--can't think up a punishment for him. He did order the "hit" on Vlad but not sure if it can be proved.

Fernanda--she is awesome. The way she stood up to AB was great. She didn't let that dirtbag push her around.

If AB truly has control of the 60% then Aurora as his only living legal heir will inherit.

More later.

Ibarramedia--loved your list.

I don't even consider Gardenia a villain. At All. Even the Gardenia haters may consider her an annoying pest. But not a villain.

So Carlos, you consider Babs worse than Gabriela and carlota?

Ibarramedia

Carlos, Just a quick tangent. My tolerance for dog aggression may be a lot higher than many other people. It runs the spectrum from a nip when someone accidently falls over them to unprovoked attacks without apparent warning. Most of the time it is due to ignorance of dog behavior or human cruelty. Because most repeatedly aggressive dogs have few options for rehabilitation by default they are euthanized or "dismissed".

I agree with the Gardenia/Jack Russell comparison wholeheartedly--tenacious, prone to get herself into trouble--but so adorable.

Barbara

Barbara, you and I are tuned to the exact same channel. Allow me to add, I love Jack Russell Terriers as long as they belong to someone else. They absolutely must be the most adorable and obnoxious dogs on the planet.

Carlos

Carlos~~~HA. Comparing DDenia to a Jack Russell is perfecto. She is tenacious and full of....energy, verdad ? She just needs to channel that enthusiasm more constructively. Well, I can't wait for the grand finale. I think I might tape it. I am hoping for one more love scene between Fer and Fr'ed as Ed...the authentic noche de boda as opposed to that premarture falso one on the red bed. I watched part of Alborada tonight...such a hard act to follow...Luis es muy caliente.

Speaking of dog-alikes: I see Bravo as a rotweiler (sp?) and Babs as doberman; Anyballs as an English bulldog, Santi could be a boxer/scooby do. Gonzo is a hound dog with sad eyes. Fer is an Irish Setter; Ed is a black lab; Flor is a chihuahua. Don't know about types as I'm not a dog person, just the look alikes strike me as such.

Jardinera that was an excellent recap. I felt everything again as if it were the first time.

I loved Fernanda going after Artemio Bravo. She is the most corageous character in this telenovela and I love Silvia's acting choices. At the begining I was annoyed that they weren't using her enough but they finally did after a while and she proved herself.

I have always been very puzzled about the reactions here about Santi and Aurora possibly being cousins. There seems to be a stronger reaction than in México where they didn't seem to care much.

Years ago, Fernando Colunga and Nora Salinas played first cousins in the novela "Esmeralda" and they were engaged when it started but he fell inlove with Esmeralda, played by Lety Calderón, and she fell inlove with another character, played by Alejandro Ruiz who plays Jacinto in MEPS. They broke up, and this went against the wishes of their parents who wanted them married to keep the money in the family. The only novela that has ever portrayed disgust towards cousins getting married was "Pueblo Chico, Infierno Grande" but that was a novela de época.

Jarocha

Jarocha, aside for social mores and religious issues. There are genetic concerns with inbreeding. I just consider it anathema. It is just un thinkable unlees your were roayalty back in ancient times and the age of empires.

Here is some interesting reading:

Is inbreeding always bad?

Inbreeding is not generally recommended because of the existence of deleterious recessive alleles in most populations. Although these should be rare per gene (usually much less than 10-3, see mutation-selection balance), there will be many deleterious alleles per genome. According to some estimates, you and I each carry about 1 strongly deleterious hidden mutation. When homozygous, these mutations reduce fitness; inbreeding will therefore lead to inbreeding depression as the homozygous mutations become expressed.

However, inbreeding isn't all bad, and many organisms habitually inbreed. Animals such as fig wasps and certain parasites regularly mate with their siblings, and selfing is common in many of the most aggressive weeds of agriculture. The advantage is presumably ecological, since a single female can then colonize an empty resource or host. There may also be a genetic advantage by preventing recombination between adaptive loci. One assumes deleterious recessives in habitually inbreeding species have mostly been purged by selection.

In human societies where some families have a lot of wealth, or where a bridal dowry is paid, inbreeding is common. Examples are European royal families, and on the Indian subcontinent. Perhaps here the idea is to prevent the "recombination" of wealth with other families!

Ibarramedia

Carlos, Yes, Jack Russells have a touch of OCD but I could maybe see myself going for one someday.
BTW --" Let's hope they find a good home for her"--LOL!
Barbara

Thanks a hugh bunch for such a great recap. You explained everything so well. The commenters have already voiced just about everything I would have commented on so I'll just add a couple things. 1) The list of the women who appears to be ending up without men left out Erika. Wonder what became of that friendship. Will they keep in touch?
2) As far as the cousin thing, I agree with whoever believe that Santiago is adopted. There isn't any other reason I can think of for pointing out the lack of newborn pictures in his picture album.
3) Some of you are great detectives to be able to connect Babs smoking to her demise or the fact that she burned up her parents. That went completely over my head. I thought she was just nervous.
4) I thought that Vlad was out of the picture. Although Pris didn't want him killed, I didn't get the impression she loved him enough to marry him.
5) After all the wrong that Gardenia has done, I personally don't think she deserves any compensation from the novela gods. Her compensation is the fact that she never suffered the consequences of any of her actions.

Ibarramedia that's an interesting information. I'm not actually saying that it's okay to marry your cousin, it just seems to me that there is much more shock about this in USA than in México and this surprises me. I don't think we see it as a good thing here wich is why it is not featured so much on television, but people don't have such a strong reaction to cousins getting together in real life as they do about sibilings, now that one is a big taboo. Of course the attitude of people varies depending on the region, the north may be much more against it while the people in the middle of the country tends to be shocked and disgusted for a moment but then they just let it be. I think this is because there are a few of zones in México where it seems like all the people are related to each other in some way.

Jarocha

Thanks for all the excellent recaps and comments - I never get to watch a whole week of episodes, so I'd be lost without Caray, Caray. I missed this episode, so thanks for getting me all ready for the finale!
Regarding cousin marriages- they are common in most of the world, legal in half the states in the US and genetically carry less risk for children than older parents, or several other genetic traits that strangers who marry could pass on. It's just a cultural taboo we grew up with, and I still feel it though I know better in my head.
As for the bad women of telenovelas - I think Diana Bracho does them really really well. Anyone remember her in Infierno en el paraiso?

I don't think the friendship of Erika and Fer can survive unless Erika gets her own life. She's been stuck to Fer's side since they were little girls. I don't think Erika's coming back to Mexico unless she meets/marries/engaged to an Argentine or if she learns that Eduardo and Fernanda have moved to the United States.

Jardinera,
I have come late to the party but had to add my congratulations on what I think is your most fabulous recap yet. You had a staggering list of events and revelations and you handled them deftly retaining your usual sense of humor. Thanks for being so wonderful through this entire series. Well it is the bewitching hour and I start ESL tutoring tomorrow but must add my thanks for your superb efforts.

Monday night is going to make our tv sets smoke me thinks. Good night all, see you tormorrow evening.

Ack! Only halfway through the comments so far but will say this before I leave for work:

Babs smoking: Apparently they didn't think she seemed evil enough yet, so they put a cigarette in her hand. LOL. Or maybe someone was right with the speculation that her butts will become clues.

If he acts fact, there's still time for Gonzo to change the deal where only the first grandchild gets the remaining 40%. I always thought that was a really stupid, mean idea. Great way to breed resentment, not to mention hardship (and really misguided competition, if Pris's baby doesn't survive) among the siblings and cousins.

Bravo has time to change his will to accommodate Aurora, too.

BTW I didn't get a chance to say it, but the look on Bravo's face last week when Franco told him he's Ed was PRICELESS. Comically so. With his gaping mouth and popping eyes, he looked like a surprised cartoon-devil.

Contracts signed with a false name ARE enforceable, especially if there are witnesses as to who actually signed them. Reference: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2864/does-it-matter-if-you-sign-a-contract-with-a-name-thats-not-your-own

I adore Sergio Sendel; he and FC are the only male actors I'd give a third chance to a telenovela for. (I gave Tontas a second and third chance because of Jamie Camil too, but the third chance was negated by what's her name who's in Sortilegio.)

I'd also give a novela a second chance for Silvia Navarro, Susana Gonzales, or Angelica Vale. A writing credit from Fernando Gaitan is also a plus.

Regarding Babs, nature vs. nurture, and what she deserves: Circumstances certainly contributed to her bad behavior, but I also seem to recall that she took pleasure in many of her misdeeds. This, IMO, crosses the line between "victim of blackmail, circumstance, & manipulation" to "just plain evil." Her alleged soft spot for Aurora strikes me more as possessiveness - determination to reclaim something that's "hers" - than as goodness, humanity, or even a blood tie.

My feeling about Vlad has mostly been that he's sick and needs help. I won't feel good about any ending for him unless it includes him getting over his obsession (not just getting what he feels he's entitled to). I feel that he too sees his child and Pris as rightful possessions rather than human beings.

I think Gonzo needs to survive so that he can learn a lesson (whatever that may be) and save his family.

Regarding remaining possible romances, I remember Dr. Coffee Dude managed to get over his obsession with Gaviota and score himself a hot girlfriend (the youngest sister from FELS) who shared his enthusiasm for coffe in about 30 seconds during the last episode of DA, so there's still hope for Erika, Gardenia, and I hope especially Flor who's been the least insane of the bunch.

OK now off to work and hopefully I'll have time to read the rest of the comments by tonight. I bought a special recording device with qam tuner specifically for this occasion (admittedly I was grateful for the excuse), so here's hoping the damn thing works.

Good morning. I did a quick read of the recaps I missed overnight. Re: cousins...I've taught people from cultures in which it is/was quite common to marry cousins. My cousin Drew and I were very close as teens. We were the same age [actually only 12 days apart] , and he was a tall, goodlooking blonde. We lived in neighboring states, but we saw each other frequently at holidays and spent time together in the summer. He vacationed at our farm for a week and I spent a week at his house. We were penpals for several years. I think we were in a kind of familial puppy love and helped each other figure out what kind of person we wanted to be with. He once asked his mom if cousins could marry.[His mother was actually my cousin. My mother was his mother's aunt , so I guess technically we could have married.] I remember a friend telling me to stop talking about my cousin all the time because the guys we hung around with didn't like hearing how great he was. I never liked the girls he dated, and no matter who I dated, he always told me that I could do better. I think we helped each other through those angstridden teen years, but I never thought about marrying him. Yikes ! Jardinera~~~Loved your rundown of the dog types...right on the money.I love Black Labs and used to have one. Toby used to lean on me when I hung up the laundry, jumped on my lap at every opportunity, and protected me from any nearby males [except hub]. I could see FC doing that.

Jardinera - I'll agree with all your dog comparisons in appearance. But in Fer's case, that's where it ends. We have owned Irish Setters (never again!) and Fer's personality is not like that of the IS dogs. IS get by on their looks, because there is nothing but fluff for brains.
:oD

I watched some of Pura Sangre's final episodes on YouTube, and it was interesting to see how Telerisa kept the characters true to PS. I suspect the MEPS actors had to watch some of PS, because their Gardenia character acted the same - like a JRT except MEPS's DDenia was moreso, PS version of Artemio was almost a complete clone, etc.

IMO, PS's ending was a dud compared to the fun we'll have tonight. Telerisa got it right! In fact, I had to watch the MEPS ending again on YouTube yesterday.... how sad is that?!? (LOL) You can tell it was a slow day.... and I should have been doing something else.....Ack.

CRISTINA

Could we have a topic for discussion for the 2 MEPS Cristina shows?
I know there will be a lot I won't understand.

Jardinera: wow! thanks SOOOOOOO much...didn't get a chance to watch & you did a masterful job recapping a very fast paced episode.
Maggarita

OT--Does anyone know how I can find out if my son is ok regarding the 8 killed in Nuristan provice this weekend? You can email me offlist. Thanks.

Jardinera, a fantastic job!! I loved reading your recap and couldn't put it down until I read every word.

Barb smoking was the most awkward scene. I can't imagine why they kept it in unless it has some significance. Her desperation...?? Hmmm...!!

Did AB ever tell anyone about his past?? Unless I missed it, we never got to hear who raised him and how he became so powerful.

Can't wait for tonite. Thanks again.

Ann-NYC

Wow! Quite a few new comments this morning.

Would someone clarify why they think that Vlad should be on the scum list? A slight penchant for stalking does not qualify.

Jardinera, to follow up on your last comment to me yesterday, about Dam's comment about Vlad with his wings in heaven. Coupled with his refusal to toast the "successful" hit on Vlad, it was his way of coping with the fact that he had participated in the act that he found so vile. It was not a celebratory joke, it was painful and sad.

Fr/Ed is not a black lab. I've had four of them, (#4 is 14 1/2 y.o., and getting very old, I am going to be very sad in the near future). Estif and Jacinto are black labs. Fr/Ed is a golden retriever, longer on looks than substance. (Sorry golden fans).

I am so looking forward to tonite- Univision hasn't been telling us what time it starts- anyone know what time it airs in Seattle? The local station's website isn't very reliable...

Ann- I'm curious about why AB is so wealthy/powerful, too. I take the Babs smoking as a clumsy expression of Babs' desperation and panic.

Dave, in real life that penchant for stalking would not be tolerated. BTW they nailed the guy who stalked Erin Andrews' hotel room with a camera phone and had the contents uploaded on the internet. He also tried to blackmail and extort Priscilla, but failed. And I can't stand him. Just my opinion. I'm ok if you disagree.

I'm also very curious how Artemio Bravo became Wealthy and powerful.

I read a few commnets about the symbolism in Babs smoking. While it is an interesting theory, the timing is wrong and it is so inconsistent with the character. You have an out of the blue moment that does not fit. Almost makes it look comical in comparison. There is not set up for it.

This will be a most interesting evening tonight.

Ibarramedia

Here's my list of the characters, ranging from bad to good (just my opinion, yours may vary).

Artemio Bravo
Barbara Greco
Camilo
Montserrat
Damian
Anibal
Obregon
Gonzo
Vladimir
Priscila
Gardenia
Fr/Ed
Esteve
Venus
Padre Bosco
Santiago
Aurora
Fernanda
Martina
Liliana
Jacinto
Margarita
Flor

Very nice list Hombre.
I would place Damian, Anibal and Obregon over Montserrat. Interesting that the good Padre Bosco is nine steps from total goodness with Flor being totally good.

Ibarramedia

OK, I'm all caught up.

With Santi and Aurora, their fathers are only half-brothers to begin with, they're only half-cousins at most (whatever that is called). I don't know if half-cousins have been addressed before in telenovela history or not, but genetically, being half-cousins means very few genes in common and not much risk.

Pris's baby, on the other hand, may get stuck with his dad's obsessive stalker genes, so good luck with that.

Even though Monserrat was a class conscious, snobby bitch & I fault her for not beating the mierda out of Camilo, she didn't murder or plan to murder anyone or steal, so I would place her just before Gonzo.
Damian planned to murder his best friend & kidnap Aurora. Anibal planned to murder Vladimir & Obregon was a monster in his treatment of Lili.

Connie...I have no access to the information you need...but just know I am sending you thoughts and prayers while you wait to hear something more. It is tough to be a mom under the best of circumstances. When your son or daughter is serving in harm's way it is so hard to endure.

Thanks for the recap and all of the great comments. I'm still riding the fence about starting another one so soon after this one, especially with the 3-hr finale. I don't understand why they just didn't play it out through this week on a normal schedule. I think I would miss all of you guys too much if I didn't watch Sortilegio though.
Ibarramedia, I totally agree with you, Fc looks very small to me for supposedly looking so muscular during the gratituitous weight lifting scenes.

Thanks, Ibarra, I'd completely forgotten the blackmail/extortion part. For Sortlegeio, I'll have to keep a flow chart/ timeline of the plot, my feebling synaspses don't seem to function as well as they might.

Hombre- love your evil-to-good list. I don't agree completely, but do concurr with Jacinto, Marge, and Flor at the bottom, or top, howver you look at it. I've been wondering all along if these common decent people haven't been intentionally been included as an encouragement to the similar types in the targeted demographic of the audience. They have been characters to be emulated by everyone, regardless social standing.

Connie,

I know you are worried, let us know the minute you hear something. I'm sure he is fine. Are you in contact with his friends and girlfriend, if he has one? Sometimes adult sons contact their moms last.. we are low on their communication list. Sending prayers your way.

Sandy in TN

Connie, I'm surprised the Army doesn't have a contact for families to ck on their loved ones.

Thanks everybody. I heard from his online girlfriend and she talked to him yesterday. The paper wasn't giving much information. Just 8 killed from Ft. Carson in a remote Afghan outpost. It turns out that is about 85 miles north of where my son is.

Can't wait for tonight either.

Connie..Thank goodness! Welcome to the world of parenting an adult son. It gets better when they hit 30 or so.

Sandy in TN

Hombre,

Thanks for your bad to good list. The only change I would make is to move Monserrat below Gonzo.

On the Vlad as stalker discussion: I'm not calling him a stalker because he was aware that Pris was carrying HIS baby and he wanted to be a father and therefore took his interest in HIS baby a little too far. Her pregnancy is an extenuating circumstance to his "stalking". Mis dos centavos...

Connie~~~I'm so glad that you found out that your son is okay. I freaked out when my daughter told me that she was going to work in NYC, so I can't imagine what it must be like having a child in military service. Please know that I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and sending out good vibrations. Well, only a few more hours to the finale. I like to think of it as ''Keeping Up with Karma; What Goes Around Comes Around.'' Time to get the wine coolers chilled and fluff up the sofa pillows.

I'm surprised that Adolfina is not in the Evil to good list. I would place her just below Steve. She was there long enough to be relevant and was not just a bit player or character passing by.

Again, i'm surprised that the majority of the female viewers and readers don't consider his behaviour creepy. The constant following, harrassing phone calls, showing up at Grupo lactos at inappropriate times, peppering her car with post it notes, constant reminders of how he is the father of the child and will use it just to get to her. Father of the child or not, it is creepy. The young girls i know would be creeped out by lesser things.

Ibarramedia

Erika was also left out of the list.

Ibarramedia

Dorado Dave, my cable guide shows it running from 8-11 tonight in Seattle.

Ibarramedia,

I surprise myself with my views on Vlad's stalking. But for some crazy reason I am giving him a break. Social lines are drawn so finely now. In my day many girls or boys could have been called "stalkers" for multiple drive bys, "accidental" encounters in the cafeteria, hundreds of sappy letters written, etc., etc., etc. We are now aware of crazies who have carried this behavior to horrible outcomes. I don't think that Vlad was ever a life threatening stalker.

Sandy in TN

To me , Vlad is dopey and pathetic , but he never seemed dangerous or evil. Gee, maybe he , like Fr'ed and Fer, was a virgin before Pris pressed him into service. Maybe he was leading a lonely life of work, Jai Lai [?] and the occasional beer with Dam. Then, BINGO...He discovers that he's going to be a daddy. I think he'd probably be a devoted dad and hubby.

Hombre I'd put Altagracia pretty high up on the baddies, plus Horny Jerónimo. Also Lucio needs to be in there. I'd put him before Camilo, even. Can't stand him.

Also, I'm with the commenter who said she might watch Sortilegio against his/her better judgment just to keep in touch with this great community of interesting people.

Sandy, i'm ok with ocassional drive by's and accidental meeting at the cafeteria. A few love letters are ok as long as he does not send them everyday for 90 days straight. I draw the line when Vladimir in his oh so frequent accidental meetings in the cafeteria is followed up by really laying it on thick to her while meeting her. Every.Single.Time.

Most of the guys will probably silently agree with me that if they so much as used some of Vlad's tactics, they will be slapped with a restraining order so fast that it will make their head spin.

Ibarramedia

novelera, good call on Lucio. I Can't believe i'm missing so many details here. I wont't include Altagracia and Geronimo because they are flashbacks and jsut semi-cameos. Hmmm with respect to Hombre's list, I think i will put my order out based on his actual list with slightly different rankings.

Ibarramedia

I can't imagine living with Vladimir, much less being married to him. He is obsessive & I'm sure possessive. Pris's life will be un infierno. Don't forget what he did to the #1 on the list, Flor. He got her fired.

Ibarramedia,

What Vlad should have done is use the court system as Babs did with Lucio, Damian and Camillo. Surely he could have filed some kind of "that baby is mine" suit and he could have gained parental rights for his baby.

I am in agreement with you that Vlad's behavior, in our society would most likely be considered "stalking". What I am saying is that I, Sandy in TN, do not think it is stalking.

Sandy in TN

Vario,

I wouldn't want to be married anyone in this novela, not even Jacinto!!!! For some STRANGE reason, my sweet husband is looking awfully good to me after MEPS!

For those of us in Central Time the fun begins at 7PM.

Sandy in TN

The fact that I don't have a husband is even better! Ha. 8(:-)

Well now, I sure can't say that about Eduardo, even with his flaws, his shoes can go under my bed anytime. Tristamente no tengo un esposo no más.

BTW in the People en Español magazine with the 25 más guapos, FC has 3 big dogs, one looks like a golden, one black but hard to tell what kind & one gray & white.

Thanks, Julia, I checked the KUNS-TV website, and it said 9-midnite. I'll be in the recliner at 8.

Sandy and Connie, those are both pretty funny comments. Connie, so glad your son is safe. I feel for those 8 other families.

I do too DD. I am emotionally drained today. I hope my dogs don't have to pee during the show tonight. They will have to wait until the commercial!

For anyone interested, right now on Univision.com, they have a poll to find out which ending you want to have happen to la Barbara. The choices are: 1. Murdered by Don Artemio. 2. Pardoned/Forgiven, 3. Punished. Right the results have the majority wanting to see her punished.

here's the url (so you can find the poll):

Jody :)

Jody, that's great. I say punished.

Connie, I am relieved to hear your son is okay. We all owe a big debt of gratitude to our service men and women and their families. ((Hugs)) to you all.

Re Vlad: as someone who had to deal with a *real* stalker (not fun), I can tell you Vlad is annoying but doesn't seem to be dangerous. I agree with the idea that he was a lonely virgin who somehow wound up with a sexual jackpot the very first time. He had no idea how to handle it and started piling on the "romance". Sort of like a guy who sprays on too much cologne because a "little is nice, so more must be better".

I do hope tonight's finale is good. I have to say so far this TN has been somewhat disappointing. I don't know if I'll hang around for Sortilegio. But this is such a nice group I know I'd miss it...

A lot of people were singing to high heaven with this novela in the beginning. Later on a lot of them seem to have turned in this novela. I usually wait until the gran final before I give an assessment of how good it was. It certainly was good enough to follow along. Just my 2 cents.

Ibarramedia

Has there been a telenovela without a villana just villain?

Ibarramedia

Connie~~~You deserve some relaxation time. Get your favorite beverage, put your feet up, and drift away to Mexico. I hope your puppies can wait until the commercial breaks to pee. I'm going to take a walk, correct a pile of verb tense tests , find something to eat for dinner, and then I will settle in for the evening. [Word verification ''uters''...made me think of ''udders''...how appropo.

Ibarra, I've liked this novela from the beginning. It had mystery and intrigue and we didn't have to wait till the end for them to open the damn box. 8(:-)

Dorado Dave, I am in the same area as you. I think the show will run from 8-11. Otherwise KUNS would have to skip their 11:00 local news.

Connie, I have to agree that I liked this novela a lot too. Much of that had to do with having a strong heroine. I really liked Fernanda and how Silvia played her. Usually there is a strong hero and a weak heroine, and we think that's acceptable. This time it was almost the opposite and I liked that twist. There were definitely a few story lines that could have been tighter, but that's the same in all telenovelas. It kept my interest throughout.
-Vivi in DC

Vivi in DC, at least we didn't have to listen to Slofia sniveling the whole time. When Fer cried it was for a good reason not just because. She was awesome and I would like to see her in something else.

Destilando Amor was my 1st novela & I put MEPS on a par with that. Since then I've watched Pasión the entire thing & that's when I fell in love with Colunga, loved it. I bought Alborada (wonderful) & Amor Real, (good, but chopped too much). I feel Amor Real would have been the best one.

Oh & I'm now a Silvia fan also.

Connie, I'm so glad that your son is safe and sound. My heart goes out to you and I'm so glad you were able to get hews so quickly.

I've enjoyed this show from the first. My only quarrel is with the absurd need for it to take 15 tears for Artie's plan to reach fruition. If I were Babs, I would have capped him a long time ago and then have gotten on with my life.

Carlos

So glad for your good news, Connnie!

Women on the show I'd like to marry (if I were single:))

Priscila
Martina
Gardenia (maybe)

Women on the show I'd like to date:

Fernanda
Barbara
Flor
Venus
Aurora

Women on the show you couldn't pay me to date:

Erika

Yes, there have been many disagreements on our Caray Caray happy family website. For example: Are Denia's real? Do fox terriers make good pets? Is Vlad a stalker? Who is worst, Babs or Artemio?, Nurture vs nature? Can you detect a high heel mark in a decomposed body? Does "she" look good in the hat or bad in the hat? Wardrobe wise is this day 6 or 7?, Does Miguel look good with his stubble or bad with his stubble?, Which is better Alborado or Amor Real?, Is Sorteligeo worth our time? and so on and so forth....but the one thing we are all in perfect agreement on is....Sylvia Navarro is the BEST!

Tonight marks the end of a really fun viewing experience!

Sandy in TN

Hombre I will raise you one and make a slight modifcation if you will sir.

I will trade Erika for Flor and I will combine the the girls in the date with those in the married column. Thus Date/Marry. I will even add Liliana when she is all fixed up and recovered and even add Chelsea. Even Frau Hilda is not so bad.

Ibarramedia

Connie, I'm with you on the not having a husband...but I have to agree with Variopinta that FC shoes are welcome under my bed! I was checking out that People at Winco last night!

Wow! So many comments. So little time left. Thanks to all of you for adding so much to this blog, especially over the weekend.
===========
Welcome SheilaM!
There were so many who came on late yesterday and today and I was too under the weather to keep up answering all of you. Am conserving my strength for tonight's mini-marathon.
¡Que se diviertan la noche del fin! Enjoy finale night! Nos vemos despues.

P.S. Connie: So glad to hear your son was ok. You and he were the first ones I thought of when the news came on about that.

I always say a prayer for him when the news mentions the big A.

Hombre~~I got a kick out of your lists. I think I'd only date and/or marry Fr'ed ...if I weren't happily married. Jardinera~~Hope that you feel better soon. Well, I've gone for a walk, had leftovers for dinner, muddled through a pile of verb tense tests [a few As , a few Bs, some Cs, and lots of Ds and Fs] , and now I'm just going to get a cuppa hot mint tea , get comfy on the couch, and enjoy the karma. My guess is that there will be justice and anvils with a chance of weddings, pregnancies, and bouncing babies.

A funny FELS note: Pablo Montero is in Oregon this weekend at one of the Casinos!

Molly- is Pablo singing? or gambling?

DDave, since they are selling tickets I'm guessing he is singing! He's at Spirit Mountain. Its only about an hour from Portland, I'm kind of tempted to check it out. Gads, wonder if he does the Ave Maria...I don't think I could take that!

or snorting?
