Sortilegio #5, 10/12/09: Alejandro is closing in on the truth. Bruno doesn't knock.

This novela bolted out of the starting gate but it stalled tonight while Alejandro was mulling incessantly over this strange situation: he now remembers almost everything, EXCEPT his sister-in-law Paula and his wife MJ whom he's supposedly known for months. And why did he hide his supposed marriage from everybody, even his best friend Fernando? And why did he tell MJ so many lies?

I am not, readers, going to repeat this conversation, but he did, many times.

Paula tells MJ again and again: (1) he's very pretty; (2) we'll go to jail if you don't string him along; (3) it's not fair I should suffer for the mess you've gotten us into; (4) life here is a dream and (5) he's very pretty. MJ points out that Alejandro is no idiot and she fears he has figured out that something's rotten in the state of Denmark.

Ezekiel the servant keeps seeing Bruno and MJ together.

Bruno confirms the marriage is legit: he met the witnesses and MJ's father, the signature on the marriage certificat is indeed Alejandro's, there is a picture of the loving couple at the girls' hovel.

Bruno yells at his henchman because Alejandro is so alive instead of being dead at the bottom of a ravine. The henchman thoughtbubbles: if it weren't for the good pay I'd be out of here, I'm tired of this guy.

Bruno's sis Raquel rehashes to Maura (Alejandro's erstwhile girlfriend), who is chagrined to hear Alejandro has not been asking for her. "Give up on him," counsels Raquel, "find another one, and find me one too."

Bruno tells Alejandro he should divorce MJ. "But I'm not inclined to give her half my inheritance. And anyway, I'm not going to divorce her until I remember what happened. If she didn't know I was wealthy, then she didn't marry me for money - she must have loved me. What's bothering you, anyway?"

Mother Victoria is puzzled that MJ has shown her supposed husband so little affection and shown so little joy.

Paula scolds MJ for making the bed - what will the servant think? Paula goes down to breakfast while MJ hides in their bedroom.

Meanwhile, over bagels Raquel has been insulting the country girls to mom. "That sister is an idiot, everybody will ridicule her." "If Alejandro married MJ, she must have good qualities." "Well, I don't see them." "Shut up. MJ is your brother's wife and you must treat her as such."

Paula comes in. "Where's your sister?" "She's not coming." "Maybe she'd be more comfortable eating in the kitchen with the servants" snipes Raquel.

MJ should have gone down with sis, because now Bruno comes in and bullies her some more in her bedroom. He tells her to trust him and gives her creepy caresses. She is having none. She says she's only putting up with this for the sake of her sister and her father, and that Bruno must promise to get her out of this, get her far away, or she's squealing. He promises, but that promise is worth the paper it's written on I'd say...

His shirt is unbuttoned like Damian's, it's a characteristic of villains I guess. They both leave the room. Ezekiel is watching.

Alejandro tries to draw her out. He says she's treating him like a stranger, and while he may have lost her memory, surely she hasn't, so nu?

She doesn't know how he takes his coffee.

She again says she's mortified because he lied to her about having money. He interrogates her about the wedding, why were there no friends there? "You didn't want them, you said we'd have a party after the church wedding." "Were you pressured into it? Are you pregnant?" "No, I told you there's been no congress between us."

Again she says she wants a divorce, she runs away and cries.

Raquel's hubby takes Paula for a spin through the city, and to an expensive restaurant for lunch, she likes that. The doctor comes and gives Alejandro a clean bill of health, but Alejandro says he wants to go to the hospital next day and get some studies anyway because of not remembering his wife.

MJ is outside and Bruno sneaks up behind her again. They watch Maura arrive and Bruno says she's one of Alejandro's many lovers, and that the flow of amantes won't slow down now merely because of the marriage. Ezekiel is watching.

Maura, dressed to kill, flirts with Alejandro and asks about the marriage. "I thought WE ..." "Our relationship was agreeable but we never talked about marriage." "I thought it was obvious, I thought our intimacy implied..." "If 'intimacy' always led to marriage you'd have been married long ago." She is huffy.

MJ comes in, doesn't need to be introduced to Maura, is also huffy. There'll be a party to celebrate the marriage. Alex accompanies Maura to her car. She says, "You better buy your wife some clothes if you want our social world to treat her well."

Ezekiel tells Alex he saw Bruno and MJ together in the garden.

Alejandro comes into MJ's room, tells her she's very odd. He moves in for a kiss, she evades it, he gets real close and keeps asking what's going on, he kisses her shoulder, he tells her she's pretty and has a sweet face, she gets up, he says he can see her soul in her eyes, KISS! It's hot! She pulls away, he is very convincing, KISS AGAIN! They're down on the bed! Mmmm, but then -

Bruno busts in! He didn't knock! On the bed, MJ is fearful and mortified. Alex is very annoyed. Bruno says, Fernando's downstairs to see you. Alex says, you could have sent a servant, and never come in here without knocking - and I forbid you to enter my wife's room!

Alex goes downstairs saying "we'll talk later." MJ cries.

Bruno lurks, then goes in and yells at her. "What were you doing in the bed with him?" "Mind your own beeswax." He shakes her and shouts, "You liked it, you whore!"

Talking the situation through with Fernando, Alex remembers the tractor trailer coming right at him, trying to kill him, and reasons that somebody wants him dead, and now he's sure he never married MJ, the marriage scam is connected to the attempted murder. Somebody wanted the widow to inherit. "There must have been an accomplice who knows my movements very well!"

Fernando tells Victoria about his conversation with Alejandro and asks her not to tell that he told her! They have a sweetie-pie moment.

MJ's dad's sleazy friend fishes keys out of the grass and goes into the hovel where the contraband goods are kept. There's MJ's dad, he's been waiting for his sleazy friend for two days. "Are you really smuggling drugs and weapons?" "Jeez no, what are you thinking, well, did you find any?" "Well, no."

Alejandro meets MJ and Paula downstairs. MJ was about to call her dad and catch him up on things, but she asks Paula to do it instead. "Why didn't you want to talk to your father in front of me?" "Paula can do it just as well."

MJ is hesitant to enter Alejandro's room with him. "I'm not in the habit of violating women, don't worry." "You wouldn't have to, they put themselves on the rug for you, especially Maura."

He grins and sends for breakfast for the two of them. He asks if she's a virgin, well yes she is.

"Why do you want a divorce?" "Because you lied and you live in this big house." "Hah, that's the first time I've heard of a woman wanting a divorce because her husband is rich." "I don't love you." "Well, that's not very flattering (halagador). But you did before. Was I bad to you?" "Yes, that's it." "Well, I offer a thousand apologies, because I'm not usually like that. You intrigue me."

"Well, we were in love, but now we're not!" "Don't speak for me! I want to get to the bottom of this. And what about Bruno, how did he convince you to come back for my burial?" He's closing in on the truth, loud and angry and in her face, when, Bruno busts in again!

Tomorrow: MJ tells Bruno it would serve him right if she and Alejandro come to know each other carnally.

Thanks for the recap Melinama. As usual you captured everything and added your wit as well. Good call on the open shirt being the new dress code for villains.

I have to admit I'm enjoying Alex's cat and mouse game with MJ. Normally I don't think I would so I can attribute this to WL. It's funny b/c during Pasion I didn't think much of Levy but I got hooked on Cuidado, in spite of the meandering story, b/c of his chemistry to Maite P.

Yeah Bruno obnoxious arrogance seem to be biting him in the behind. The way he treats Erick is not real smart either. Fernando you are an lousy friend. I don't care if you like Victoria or not but you shouldn't betray your best bud trust. I loved how Alejandro looked back at MJ when he was with Maura to make her jealous. Bruno needs to know how to knock but i think thats his sense of entitlement.

Who exactly is the costume or wardrobe designer for this show? What the hell is Bruno wearing under his shirts? No wonder someone comented that Bruno looked a effeminate compared to Alejandro. I have never seen guys wear shirts like that unless they modeling on a runway.

I think what Bruno's wearing is a scarf - it took me ages to figure it out, I kept thinking it's an undershirt. It's a bit odd, but I have to say both Bruno and Alex seem to be sporting very runway looks - with very closely fitting pants and shirts of a variety of colors.

Thanks for the recap, Melinama! I am actually really enjoying Bruno's tricks, can't wait to see how he is going to try to get out of this one. Between these three main characters, it'll be a fun novela it seems!

Thank You for tonight's recap Melinama. Yeah, Bruno is wearing a scarf inside his shirt. For a few days last week, It matched the color of the shirt he was wearing. Not my style. I wear designer sportswear more of the Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie and Fitch type. Alejandro and Bruno are more of a Armani Exchange,Claiborne and Perry Ellis type with those tight t-shirts. Just saying.....

Got to give Alejandro some credit. He is anlyzing the situation despite that **head bump** and temporary selective amnesia most of which is forced amnesia. He is figuring out already that this is a set up. A wife would be intimate to her husband despite some marital troubles. Especially after going through what he did and then now seemingly coming back from the dead.

I think he was testing her. Now that she is un responsive really has him thinking.

Melinama a.k.a. Fiddler: mah-velous recap. I can't thank you enough for taking on Mondays for us all. I've always enjoyed reading episodes from your point of view, but haven't gotten to do that for a while until now. Muchas gracias!

Wow, what was the deal with greasy henchman Eric a.k.a Mr. Saturday Night Fever, with his shirts unbuttoned all the way to his NAVEL, and gold chains on every appendage? You coulda swore he was coming from the Disco. Bruno had better be careful how much he berates the guy--henchmen and minions are notorious for biting the hand that feeds them...

"Give up on him," counsels Raquel, "find another one, and find me one too." I'll say. Because your Roberrrtooo is quite unsavory. And the way you keep sniping snobbily about MJ and Paula, he's probably not doing you any favors at night, either.

The thing I really like about MJ and Alex is that though No-Knock Bruno has one over on them, they are not pushovers with him OR with each other. They give as good as they get and push right back. Their actions are not wishy-washy. MJ cries because her hands are tied, but will not stand silently for Bruno's yelling, and will take a swing at him when the mood hits. Alex is a Good Guy, but has a bad/naughty streak a mile wide. He definitely is NOT Juan Miguel San Roman (Cuidado). This all makes for such great conflict!

"If 'intimacy' always led to marriage you'd have been married long ago." DOH, Maura! Ouch, that had to hurt, honey. LOL

Does Roberrrtooo have his eye on Paula? Not... good.

And to think I was worried months ago about the chemistry between WL and JB working out. Those kisses and almost-kisses and shoulder-worshipping proved how foolish that was. But then again, Levy could probably convince me he was in love with a vacuum cleaner--he is that good in the sex-you-up department. And those bare legs of his... rawrrrrrrrrr. (Sorry, mates... I think I'm just getting used to seeing WL again every day after that long dry spell, and after maybe another week or so I'll calm down enough to stop ogling him so much in front of you. My apologies to anyone who's had to invest in a barf bag. I just can't help myself.)

I pray that Bruno's obsession with MJ doesn't end in a rape (he's already throwing the whore word at her). I do not want to see that. I do hope Alex keeps pounding away at the lie that is his marriage until he finds the truth, though that means Bruno will only do something WORSE.

'Morning, caray mates. Have a prosperous day. :)

Ibarramedia said: I think he was testing her. Now that she is unresponsive really has him thinking. Yes, I am definitely with you on that.

And I forgot to add that, even with all the obstacles to it, I really like Vicky and Nando's growing attraction. Just call me a bad girl.

That's ok Stephe. I'll just ogle at Maria Jose and 5'10" Raquel. They are not bad at all. Maria Jose really looks good but is just a tad skinny. She would be perfect with an athletic look.

Agreed with locking the door. And while we are at it. The people in TN land should also learn ot never leave their car keys in their vehicle. No one has taken anyone's car here in this show yet, but I'm just saying....

Ibarramedia

Thanks, Fiddler. Here's from free advice to Al. Bruno is never going to knock, so,,,,lock the door, Dude !!! Any parent with young children has gained this knowledge. Bill Levy has come a long way since Pasion and Cuidado. He must be listening to and learning a lot from Monica Miguel. He's doing a good job. That sly smile is killer. The set design makes it hard to focus on the actors. Yikes..It's like an Austin Powers movie...Yeah, Baby, we are lost in the 70s.

Great recap Melinama,
Alejandro's BFF is Fernando

For once our hero is not a virgin, & he's not even 30, Dios mio

I think we have a keeper with WL, he's doing a great job. He has a mischievous, playful personality.
He was cute in Pasión, but couldn't really spot any talent there.

I couldn't figure out what "tachas" was, but I think it's ecstasy.

Cristina's show,
Had a hard time understanding them.
Jacinto & FC were really joking around, all I caught was lettuce.

Apparently Erika didn't go to the wedding because she was about 8 mths pregnant. Her baby is 2 mths old. I think they changed the MEPS ending because of that.

Gardenia was going on about Santorrito, but didn't get that either, but she really looked great. Hope you saw this one Carlos.

I agree that Levy seemed wooden in the past but is perfect for his role here, very believable and I love that he seems to be on top of things. Bruno is a fabulous villain. Bracamontes is doing great. I hated her as Candy but I'm truly moved by her here - and she and Alejandro are hot together. Rowr.

Thanks for the recap Melinama. Just for the fact that Bruno keeps barging in whenever Alej and Maria J are in the room just shows you that Bruno is worried. Alej is smart and wants to find out the truth, but he is also attracted to Maria J, which is making their interactions together so hot. How much pressure can she stand before she spills the beans. Maybe that is why Bruno keeps hounding her.

The exterior of the house is luxurious. I am crazy about that moat. But the entire interior seems to have been designed to match that one crazily striped, gazillion colored, optical illusion rug in the living room.

Like I said the other day... a rainbow threw up. In there. Yeah.

I haven't gotten to watch this yet but love the recap. Thanks Melinama. I'm going to watch it on Youtube and then I'll be back. Happy Tuesday.

Not a very exciting episode that's for sure. If Alex's arm wasn't broken he should have popped Bruno in the snout when he barged in their bedroom. I don't like Paula already. She's a little opportunist. Maybe she will end up with Bruno.

Just got to love Pimp Daddy Erik! Too bad he doesn't have a chest to wear all his bling on.

Thanks Melinama, a quick and smart recap as usual.

Well we might have the makings of a good (maybe great!) novela. We have Alex, most likely Numero Uno bachelor of Merida, being refused by a little country girl who is his "wife". Looking into his expressive eyes, you can see that his curiosity has been ignited, he knows that there are accomplices to this madness he finds himself in and correctly guesses the heart of the plot. I think that we will have slow days, but a there are enough elements of the ridiculous AND the real in this program to give us a fun ride!! At this point, for a TN, (my qualifiers!) both WL and MJ are doing a great job.

Sandy in TN

Yes Connie, the set designers and wardrobe people have "Pimp Daddy Erik" trashed up to a T, a truly SLIMY, slime ball. Bruno is brave going head to toe with that guy! His room reminds me of service stations in the old days...some PC is ridiculous, but glad the "calendar decor" has been banished from our landscape!!!

Sandy in TN

Thanks Fiddler for your very interesting recap. I alternate between whether I watch my taped novela first or read the recap. Last night I watched the novela and so I was able to catch 2 typos in your recap. Minor, but in both instances you referred to Fernando as Alejandro. You said:
.
(1) Alejandro tells Victoria about his conversation with Alejandro and asks her not to tell that he told her! They have a sweetie-pie moment.

(2) Bruno busts in! He didn't knock! On the bed, MJ is fearful and mortified. Alex is very annoyed. Bruno says, Alejandro's downstairs to see you. Alex says ....

Like I said, minor because it was clear who you were referring to.

For Yáñez fans, although the kiss isn't as hot as FC or WL

http://www.peopleenespanol.com/pespanol/articles/0,22490,1929483,00.html

Variopinta, that made my whole day! Can't wait to see that one.

Thanks Lisa!

Melinama, thanks for this recap. I didn't get to watch the show last night but I plan to watch it this evening. Your recap is great and gives me some things to look out for.

As I was working on the Gancho recap (you folks really should give this show a look) I glanced up in time to catch Gardenia on Cristina. Dang she is gorgeous and seems very sweet as well. I hope we see more of her soon.

Carlos

Oh shoot! That was on last night? I was going to record it. I thought it was on tonight. Rats!

I am also enjoying the fact that our hero has a bit of the bad boy in him. I like Colugna a lot, but his role in MEPS was so straight arrow, while at the same time fool-hearted, that he seemed stiff sometimes. Maybe the writers know that it would be beyond even telenovela reality to have someone who looks like Alex (ML) be virginal and not know his effect on women. :) MJ is certainly having a hard time resisting...

-Vivi in DC

I watched Cristina and also had a hard time understanding everything. Especially because "Jacinto" and "Santi" were so animated and got other folks going and laughing. Santi spoke about being Dominican, how he was studying to be an architect 10 years ago when he was encouraged randomly to audition as an extra in a video and that's how his acting career began. There were some lean years, when it looked like would not be successful. I was part of a stable of young actors that were being groomed in Mexico but things were going well for him. He went to Miami and NY. He mentioned something about singing, and how he had never before been a singer or dancer (but it came natural to him as a Dominican). I think he may have done musicals on stage too. He credited his parents with never criticizing him and letting him pursue this dream. His mom and dad were in the audience and Cristina had them speak. It was obvious how much they love their son and how supportive they are. Santi teared up as he spoke about them and heard them speak. Very cute.

Jacinto and "Margarita" have been in a ton of novelas together and played siblings or spouses many times. They are obviously very good friends, with great chemistry. Margarita's baby was just 2 months old when she began working on the novela, so when she was called for the part she was still very pregnant and she thanked the producers for giving her the role at that time.

"Erika's" baby is 2 months old now and she was obviously very pregnant when the novela ended and she had to leave early. I didn't get all of Jacinto's story, but the gist of it is that he put his foot in his mouth big time before everyone knew Erika was pregnant, but she had already started to look like she was putting on wait. He saw her walk into the cantina where they were all eating, saw her eating a salad, and made a comment about her being on a diet. I think FC, who was there at the time, was shocked that he would dare make a comment like that to a woman. Erika didn't seem to mind and found it funny too. Obviously her pregnancy didn't stay a secret too long after that. FC says that Jacinto is a trouble maker (jokingly). There was lots of laughing. Jacinto also said that he also gets casts as the typical everyman. When Cristina asked why, he said because he has a noble Mexican face. This got lots of laughs from his castmates who then joked about him being so "noble".

"Gardenia" came out last, looking very sexy (guys, you should check it out). She spoke about how this role was different than the sex pots she usually plays. She got to wear simple, everyday clothes for example. She acknowledge that her character was not very likeable, but then got the ladies in the audience to agree that they would do the same if they were fighting for a fine looking man like Don Santorito. A girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do. This got some appreciative/understanding cheers from the audience of women. Strangely, this actress seemed really rehearsed and fake in the way she spoke and I did not feel the same warmth towards her from the rest of the cast, as they had shown everyone else. Hmmmm....

The producer came out. They all thanked him, said what a great guy he is, how involved he was, that he was more like a friend than a boss.

They spoke about the media/paparazzi and how they feel about it. Typical celebrity stuff about understanding the curiosity of the public, love their fans, but also need to maintain some privacy in their lives. Some of them seemed more bothered by it than others. Arleth (Pris) seemed to have a very relaxed attitude about it and said she would understand how any woman would run up to FC and want his picture, etc if she saw him on the street (I like this girl). "Lili" seemed to be on the other side of the spectrum, wanting people to understand that they aren't always in the mood to be pawed and photographed, especially when their out eating or just got off a 10 hour flight. FC was mum.

That's all I got.
-Vivi in DC

I agree that Gardenia came across as being very fake whereas Pris was fun. FC likes his privacy.

Lynne

Thanks, Melinama, for your always quick and always spot on recaps. You delivered another winner.

Gotta say this novela is really holding my attention and getting me more intrigued with each episode--a great beginning. Am loving the building of sexual tension between MJ and Alex.

Thanks, Vivi, for your recap of Cristina and her MEPS cast guests. I have a hard time ever understanding her or even just a bit of her shows--the conversations are too fast for me--and I wanted to understand this one. So you really helped.

I wonder if Bruno is worried about MJ exposing his nasty scheme. Could he be worried about MJ hitting the sheets with Alejandro? Pimp daddy Erik lol at that one. Some
one must be in love with the 70's decor and style on this show. Maura's house i think is even worse than the lombardo's. Yes Alejandro lock the door when you are trying to get with MJ.

Thanks Melinama.

Re Cristina, why no Lucero or Gonsalvo - I would have sworn they were supposed to be on last night.

Lucero had a 1 hour interview with Charytin on Sunday 7pm.

Ibarramedia

Lucero was on Telefutura - Sunday evening at 7. I discovered I have Telefutura as well on Dish. She had an interview with that blonde lady who is always playing jokes on Univision. She had far too much makeup. Lucero spoke mainly about her career, wedding and children and her mother. She was beautiful, animated and came across as a well-rounded person.

Lynne

jazzee What happened to fernanda as well? I did not see her on Cristina?

I was going to watch that Lucero interview too. Darn.

Oh yeah, Santiago said he was in Grease.
Tks Vivi for filling in some blanks.
BTW, I'll be in DC Thurs for 5 days.

I thought Lucero was supposed to be on by looking at the tiny picture on Cristina's site but it was Margarita.
And the one I thought was Miguel was Jacinto. He looked mighty fine all dressed up.

Cristina's show was taped in Miami, so some of them probably couldn't make it. ¡Ay caramba, FC was only 30 miles away.

Variopinta- What days will you be in DC? Are you coming for a conference? I could take you out for lunch or tea/coffee.

-Vivi in DC

Here's a clip from the Lucero interview (looks like it was really good). She speaks a bit about Silvia in the clip. http://www.univision.com/content/videoplayer.jhtml?cid=2116228

Tks Vivi, it's part of my bucket list & I'm going with a friend. We have the days & nights pretty well planned with tours. Not sure 5 days is enough. I'm going to enjoy the cold, it's still 90 here.

It's a beautiful time of the year to be in DC. You will have lot's of fun. It's just the right amount of chilliness, not too cold. But just cold enough for a cute little jacket and scarf and a mug of hot cider. :)

You will not be running into any men that look like William Levy though. You have to go to NYC or Miami for that!

-Vivi in DC

One more thing on the Cristina show that some here might find amusing. Carlos de la Mota (Santi) spoke about how when the novela starter everyone in Mexico was abuzz talking about the novela. They would all say, "Have you seen FC in MEPS? Have you seen Lucero in MEPS? Have you seen the dead dog on la Mota's head?!" His hair was the third most talked about thing. The adience hated it so much, they changed his hair twice! So they do listen to the viewers. Hopefully, the Mexican audience will continue to be bugged by the same things we are, so that they make the needed changes.

-Vivi in DC

Melinama, thanks for the recap. I'm warming up to this TN, especially Wm. Levy. He was studly but dumb as Vasco in Pasion. Now he's still studly, but also smarter and playful.
I like MariJo's simultaneous denial/attraction with him.
La Paloma

Carlos~~~I think that the actress who plays Gardenia is going to be in Corazon Salvaje which just started last night in Mexico. Thanks, Vivi, for the info on the Cristina show . I could kind of guess what they were discussing. They seem to get along well, especially the guy who played Jacinto and FC. Whenever I see FC on Cristina, he always seems kind and pleasant. I thought it was cute the way he came from backstage to joke a bit with Jacinto. I'll bet he went backstage so that he would not intrude on the others' time in the spotlight. He seems to be a truly nice person.

All of you former Fuego watchers should know that Doctor Babe or whatever her nickname was is now on Modern Family on ABC.
She was a guest on Chelsea the other night and besides being drop dead gorgeous is full of personality and funny as can be. It's not easy to crack up Chelsea, but she managed to do it several times.
Also, Anon 12:19, I think it was already known that Fernanda wouldn't be on due to a prior engagement.

Thanks for the info on Cristina. I'm bummed I didn't get to see it. On a good note, I finished Amor Real at lunch today. Which one should I watch next?

Is it a rule in TN land that in the epic stories someone always has to get arrested? Sometimes it is the hero. Sometimes the heroine. And sometimes both. Maybe I should tighten my beanie.

DRa. Hotlips-Leonora Castaneda-Sofia Vergara. Gonna have to check the interwens for the Chelsea footage and check out modern family. I love that girl.

Ibarramedia

She was pretty but didn't have much of a part.

Connie~~~Alborada and Amor Real are my 2 favs. I think that Melinama did a quick recap of Amor Real. To find it, go to the sidebar oon the left and find the recaps for Alborada [at the bottom]. Go to the first Alborada recap. You will find a link there for a short recap of Amor Real. Did you watch Pasion ? That is my third fav. I've been watching Guadalupe [with very young Ed Yanez and Adela Noriego ] on Youtube. I've also watched a little of the 1993 Corazon Salvaje that a lot of people love. FC was also in an epoca called Alondra that people like. I wonder how the first episode of the new Corazon Salvaje went last night in Mexico.

Thank you for the recap Melinama.

Just a word of advise for when the new "Corazón Salvaje" starts in Univision: Don't ever check the Wikipedia page. I don't know if they translate their summaries for the english site from spanish summary but don't take any chances. The spanish site is full of details and info, it's the most spoilerish summary I've ever seen.

Jarocha

I haven't seen Pasion yet. I think that will be next or I could watch Alborada again. In Amor Real I didn't get the "war" "fighting" scenes. I'm not sure what they were fighting about.

OK, I was going to pass on this novela, but after seeing one episode of Wm. Levy's cat and mouse game with Jackie B., I'm going to give it a try. He is really good! And muy guapo.

Viv - I agree about Gardenia on the Cristina show - her speech seemed rehearsed and the others were cool to her. Maybe they just don't think she's "all that"!
Fernando C. was so charming..if only he had been like that on MEPS, rather than stilted and wooden.

Thanks for the recap, Melinama!

Susanlynn, thanks for the info on Amor Real. It makes much more sense reading the recap. When they chop those shows up you miss a lot of the background info.

Connie, I believe it has to do with the Mexican civil wars and the triumph of Benito Juarez as president. I may have to re-watch sometime to get more accurate info. Perhaps Jarocha can chime in on this.

Connie, You can re watch Amor Real. This time turn on the subtitles. I know you like to hear the dialogue. Since you've done that already watch with the subtitles to read and understand what they are saying.

Ibarramedia

Good Ibarramedia.

I meant good idea! 8(:-)

I didn't ck this out, but I figuered Cristina's show would be on you-tube

What does Sortilegio mean again? I forgot.

Sortilegio = sorcery, witchcraft

Thanks Variopinta.

Ibarramedia:

I don't remember Amor Real very much but if it's the war you talk about, then it's this one:

The Reforma War (1857-1861): The 1850's were a very troubling time in Mexican history. The Mexican-American war had just happened, we had lost half of the country, Santa Anna had been a terrible president and abused his power with the abolition of the 1824 contitution becoming a dictator, there was even a small attempt at a revolution. People were feeling directionless, they thought the country was going to disappear someway. There were two sides: The Liberals and The Conservatives.

The Liberals wanted to keep the country as a federal republic and they created a new constitution in 1857. When time for elections came Benito Juarez was elect president of the country and he belonged to the liberal party.

The Conservatives thought that having a president and making the country rule itself wouldn't work. They wanted to go back to being under the spanish crown. They asked for an emperor to come and rule the country and Europe sent a noble from Austria called Maximillian of Hasburg. They took Mexico City and decided to rule from there.

People followed whomever they believed, there was literally to governments in one country while both parties began a war that finished with the victory of the liberal party.

The reason why it was called The Reforma War was because Juarez in his exile from the capital decreted the Reforma Laws in Veracruz. The main importance of this laws resides in the separation of church and state, eliminating all the powers of the catholic church. Also, eliminated the impunity of the military and obligated the state to give land to it's workers.

One of the people who followed Juarez was Porfirio Díaz, but he later went against him. After the Reforma war was over and Juárez had died of sickness he took the presidency and stopped the use of the Reforma Laws. These were later picked up as ideals for the Mexican Revolution.

Thanks, Melinama for a great re-cap. I had every intention of sitting out this novela but like like many others have said, I am quite taken with Bracamontes and Levy--they seem to have some real fire. How fun.
And Bruno, Bruno, Bruno is a BAAAAAD boy. I am hooked!

I was sure Carla Estrada wouldn't let us down, all her stuff has been really good. She usually doesn't do the current time, but this is really good. Wm Levy is coming along nicely. FC can't keep it up forever.
So many of the TN's have stories with young parts, virgins, newly married, pursuing the love of your life. For a 40 or 50 year old, it just doesn't work, although we are very forgiving when the TN is good.

As far as I know Carla doesn't miscast. Yáñez as a virgin in DA & FELS was ridiculous, he's 50.

Regarding Lucero. Someone gave the URL to see her video and all the videos of her that I clicked on came up with a black screen. The other videos played? Anyone know what is happening?

Thank you Melinama, good recap. I haven't had time to read comments, but wanted to Thank You!

Seriously is Eduardo Yanez that old? My has time flown. Sortilegio stands for love spell. At least that is their desciption I've read about on univision.

Great 'cap, Fiddler. Steam definitely was rising off that bed between Alex and MJ. Guess she's quickly seen the error of her ways by choosing Brood-o. There's no mistaking that ol' black magic once it takes hold.

Thanks Jarocha for the Mexican perspective. I had always learnt the history from the perspective of the interference of Napoleon III. From Wikepedia:

"There is well-documented suspicion that Ferdinand Max was not the product of a union between Princess Sophie and Franz Karl. Many Europeans, and Viennese in particular, suspected that he was actually fathered by Napoleon II (son of Napoleon I and Marie Louise of Austria as Napoleon Francois Joseph Charles Bonaparte, also known as the Duke of Reichstadt). Those who subscribe to this belief cite the unnaturally close relationship that existed between Sophie and Napoleon II (it was said that Sophie never recovered after his death and that she blamed it on Metternich for the rest of her life) and that, from birth, Maximilian's stature resembled Napoleon II's more than that of Franz Karl, his older brother, or any of his younger brothers"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilian_I_of_Mexico

Of course, we also learn it from the US perspective. The US was involved in a civil war until and could not interfere in keeping European powers out of the American continent according to the Monroe Doctrine.

Maximilian I was executed and his wife, Carlotta, lived out her days in a state of semi-madness in Spain.

Mexican historiators are kind to Maximilian, they share only good opinions on him even if they don't agree with the ideals of turning the contry into a monarchy. In fact most people believe he should have been pardoned but at the time tensions were so high that Juarez was afraid of being seen week. Mexicans put the blame for his fate on the conservatist who called him when there was no chance anymore he could rule.

We have a dessert now in the name of Carlotta. It's delicious.

Anon 6:28, the link worked for me. After a short ad, the Lucero piece came up which is a little over 3 minutes long. Lucero does look great.

Re Lucero. I didn't get any ad. I clicked go and it came to the screen saying Lucero, but it was black and the video never showed.

Yay! Nice recap, Melinama...I agree, Alex kept going round and round about the same issue. It looks like he's going to keep screwing with MJ until he finds out the truth. Should be fun :)

Mr. 5ft and I used to call the unbuttoned shirt the "insane-o-meter" because of the guy on Dos Caras De Ana who waxed crazier the farther down his shirt was unbuttoned.

Hey Connie, Jarocha and I were pretty much spot on with our explanations of the wars and fighting going on.
