Sortilegio #19, 10/30/09: More Plots In This Pot, But a Pot-Boiler It’s Not!
Capítulo 24? (Mexican)
First, a less-than riveting 5 minute review from the night before from the story that has brought Viewerville a whole new meaning to the term “I.D. theft”: At work, Fernando advises Alejandro to leave his feelings for Mary Jo aside and try a bit of objective analysis of the situation since he’s still found nothing to prove his belief that it was Bruno behind it all. Alex insists he knows Bruno is clever and he still feels it was Bruno who sent someone to have him killed. Back at the estate, as Bruno looks on, Victoria explains her reasons to Hernan for convincing Alex to be re-examined for possible after-effects of head-trauma. Bruno broadly hints that it would be easier to just have him thrown in the looney-bin and be done with it. Once Hernan leaves to speak with Alex, Victoria forbids Bruno to go anywhere near Mary Jo again. Over at Maura’s, meanwhile, she and her kid sister, Lissete, are playing a game of “operator” with their houseguest, Ulises. The gossip is that Mary Jo must have had an accomplice to help her trick Alex into marrying her and Alex doesn’t realize it. They determine it had to be a lover and since they have no idea who it could be, the three of them maliciously decide to invent one for her.
At the same time, MJ has been telling Paula and Pedro how Alex lied and told Vicki that he was only imagining Bruno was trying to kill him rather than have his mother continue to feel anxious and upset over the situation. Pau can’t believe he’d back down like that, but Pedro thinks it’s fine and proves the guy has a good heart. Mary Jo couldn’t have found a better man than Alex. (Talk about your convoluted thinking.) Pau thinks Mary Jo and Alex would be better off going far away to be rid of Bruno but Mary Jo reminds her that Alex is the one in charge of the family business and has too many responsibilities. Pau says then expect Bruno to continue to harass them [fregar].
Across the way, Raquel is suffering from a major hangover. Roberto, aka Bobo, wonders where she went to get drunk this time. Raquel complains about having to go to some night club by herself because none of the clique was around. He tells her he was gambling with Uli till all hours. She wonders why she and Bobo don’t ever hang out together anymore since she is pretty and has a good body. (More convoluted brain activity.) He reminds her that it’s over between them and she needs to just accept it. When she asks why, he tells her it’s because her personality is so repulsive no man could stand her. She mentions she’s got needs (like any other self-respecting shrew, I suppose). His answer is to find another man to get her jollies with, but to make sure she’s discreet so her family doesn’t find out. She’d rather get divorced. He says fine, but to remember he’s the poor one in this gruesome two-some and she’d have to come up with the alimony. In the meantime, he can’t be bothered since Uli is waiting for him in the Jacuzzi. He waves bye and leaves her to keep company with her hung-over, obnoxious self.
Back at Pedro’s bungalow, Mary Jo admits to the others that she and Alex have been doing the horizontal mambo for a while now. Of course, this is her explanation: Alex says they are now “legitimately” married as they’ve been living together for a time and neither one officially contested the marriage. Paula is in 7th Heaven since her address at #1 Easy Street has just been guaranteed. A church wedding would drop the key right into her hands. Mary Jo says unassumingly that she hasn’t dared mention a church wedding to Alex at this point.
Out by the pool, Uli and Bobo are jawboning in the Jacuzzi. Aside from arguing with Raquel for the umpteenth time, Bobo’s real angst, he admits, is due to the huge debt he ran up gambling the night before. Uli warns him he needs to stop gambling because even though Alex always covers his debts, there will come a time when he will eventually get tired of it. Talk turns to Bruno’s proposition. Bobo says he’s not interested. He isn’t a killer and besides, he likes the affluent Alex as a BIL. Uli still wants to find out what’s behind it all and says listening isn’t against the law. These two make plans to eat supper together in the evening. Bobo though, seems sorely disappointed it’s not a lunch date instead.
Somewhere on the grounds of the estate, Pau tells Mary Jo she’s nervous about taking the entrance exam for the computer school. She doesn’t want to fail since Alex is giving her such a great opportunity. FF>>
In the kitchen, Ezequial, aka Zeke, gripes to Felipa about Chucho. She advises him to be tolerant of the old guy, especially since he did save Sr. Alex’s life. Chucho shows up just as Raquel enters the kitchen. Felipa is telling him he’ll be in charge of taking care of Mary Jo’s family. Raquel is not about to let the Samaniego’s have a servant of their own, but Felipa says she’s the one who assigns house duties for She Who Oversees the Management of the Manse, la Sra. Victoria. Raquel says not today. Chucho, who just loves rockin’ with that “I saved the life of Sr. Alex” mantra, for once fails to mention this claim to fame when Bobo’s badgering b!tch comes in and decides to give them grief. She pushes the old dude out the back door of the kitchen with a supercilious “scram” and then turns around to ask them if there are any objections. Felipa says coolly that she hasn’t any, but Sr. Alex might.
Upstairs Bruno, aka Broodo, is back to his old tricks. He bangs on Mary Jo’s door and demands to talk to her. She races to lock the door and then runs out her balcony window, leaving him making a grand ruckus out in the hall till Zeke comes by and interrupts. Broodo is caught in the act and races away screaming at Zeke that nothing’s going on. He rushes angrily into his room and calls the company attorney, Licenciado Alvarez, to come to the house to “meet with him privately about an urgent matter.”
Chucho runs into Mary Jo near the lake. They’re both bored (join the crowd). The two have a nice little chat about what he used to do for a living before he came there to work. Zzzzz. FF>>
Meanwhile, we find that Raquel, Mau and Lis are back at the spa, getting a facial this time. (Talk about environmental pollution! If you ever need an example of a waste of perfectly good oxygen…) Raqui wants to make sure the others don’t say anything to anyone about what she told them the night before about Mary Jo. (Like the servants don’t gossip when they overhear these gabfests?) They discuss a possible reason Alex would have believed Mary Jo and not thrown her out by now. Mau wonders if she could be blackmailing him. Lis considers the more dramatic possibility that MJ could have told Alex some bloodcurdling story about her being threatened with the death of her family and he, with his heart of gold, would of course want to protect her. Mau says sure, by taking her to bed. Lis tells her that the two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Mau doesn’t like the sound of that one bit.
Hernan persuades Alex to do the medical tests if for no other reason than to rule out delirium if he still has his doubts about Bruno. It will also stop Vicki from worrying about him. They agree for him to take them in Mexico City.
Paula passes her entrance exams and talks Erick --whose choice in outfits is as...uh...colorful as his choice in undies--into giving her a driving lesson. She kids around and says who knows? If Alex is paying for her to go to school he might decide to buy her a car sometime, too.
Fernando tells Alex everyone would feel better about things if he would agree to take the tests. Alex says he’s going to Mexico City the next day to get them over with. Fernando mentions wanting to take Vicki to see one of the archeological sites the company is thinking of developing. He asks Alex if he minds. (Wait for it! Wait for it!) Alex says he’s fine with that as long as his mom’s cool with it. (Hubby and I still have a big problem with this one. We revisit the social implications of male bonding when the topic of midnight massages comes up. “The back rubs are great, but man, those front rubs really make a guy stand at attention and salute!” We both stop to share a brief reflexive gag--otherwise known in the vernacular as a major gross-out moment--before continuing our evening’s viewing pleasure.)
Lic. Alvarez meets with Bruno at the grand and great estate. Bruno convinces him that Alex has changed since the accident; that he has become dangerously aggressive and has turned completely paranoid, thinking “everybody” is out to kill him. “I don’t want to tell my mother, but if he’s become schizophrenic, then he can’t manage a company like ours. You’ve got to call an urgent shareholders’ meeting to remove him. It’s not necessary for him to be there since you can’t trust what a crazy person like him might do. --And don’t worry about who will replace him as president of Lombardo Construction. I will.” The impactado de Alvarez agrees wholeheartedly.
A bit later, Alex returns home from a hard day’s work worrying about his personal problems. Zeke tells him there’s a man on the phone asking for Mary Jo who won’t give his name. “He just says that he’s a friend of hers.” Actually it is Uli calling from a pay phone somewhere. Alex takes the phone but Uli of course doesn’t say anything. Alex hangs up. Alex notes from the caller ID that it had to be from a pay phone. Zeke says that since their number is unlisted, it had to be a friend of hers for the person to know it. Alex doesn’t think anymore about it.
Chucho comes in to continue his and Alex’s chat from the night before and they continue the chinwag in Alex’s office. Chucho informs Alex that Felipa has put him in charge of MJ’s family. The old guy remembers he’s there to give back Alex’s watch since he really can’t sell it without somebody thinking he stole it. Alex buys it back for a wad of bills and tells him to save the cash for the time he decides to start his own little business. This shocks the sh!t out of Zeke who pads in with the book Alex asked for. Alex explains to Zeke how the old man who saved his life deserves to be well-rewarded and with something he can actually use. (Cash is always good and accepted everywhere.)
Alex finds Vicki and tells her that he’s going to Mexico City the next day to do the tests for Hernan, and to put her mind at rest. He hands her back the book. They discuss the “two conflicting loves” it entails and the differences between her first husband and his father. During their heart-to-heart she admits that Antonio was full of life and very self-assured while Samuel was frustrated and despondent. It was Antonio who gave her the emotional support and confidence she needed then. She tells him that he and her father broke things off when they both realized neither would leave their spouse, though Antonio offered to get a divorce when he found out she was pregnant. She really didn’t know his mother and only saw her on occasion, she says, and no, his mother never found out about the two of them. Antonio would have told her if she had. There was always sense of sadness about her, she adds, possibly because she couldn’t get pregnant. Finally when she miraculously managed it Alex’s mother had him. (Yeah, I’d say he is one miraculous creation! Lawdy! Praise be and pass me the beefcake!) It was at the cost of her life, says Alex. That was God’s will, says Vicki.
Vicki asks Alex what he thinks of her now. He again tells her he feels basically that she’s a fine, loving woman and mother; and it is not for him to judge. He will always love her, he says. They make their peace. He leaves to find Mary Jo. Vicki thanks the Lord and cries because she’s been forgiven. (I weep tears of boredom because we’re only half through a rather uninspiring snore-bore of an episodio.) As Uni pauses to pay the bills, Viewerville heads to their respective kitchens for intermission munchies. (Make mine a Jolt Cola…..)
Alex heads upstairs to Mary Jo’s room to take her to dinner. She’s just finished raking through her drawers and has found the engagement ring Bruno gave her. She hands it to Alex to see if they can trace it back to the jeweler he bought it from. Alex looks it over. He says that since it doesn’t seem to be from a well-known manufacturer [joya de marca] it may be difficult to trace; but they can give it a try. As they walk out the door they kiss and she tells him he’s so good to her. He smiles and says it has nothing to do with kindness. “Love is the most irrational sentiment that exists. It doesn’t take into account social class or what’s beneficial, danger, or the harm other people might cause you.” Mary Jo asks what he means by that. He just smiles and says, “Nothing.” They leave for the restaurant. (Good. I’m ready for my second Jolt.)
Across the way in Pedro’s bungalow, Chucho flashes his packet of pesos at Pedro and remarks about Alex’s great generosity and his great responsibilities maintaining his entire family like this. Pedro asks what Chucho plans to do with his new-found riches. Chucho, apparently never one to worry about a rainy day, tells him Alex suggested that he could save it, but he decides that he would rather have a night on the town with his friend, Don Pedro, to celebrate his good luck.
Across the way, Bobo is outside sulking and sipping in the front yard of his chalet when he spies Pau returning home with a big smile on her face. He’s intrigued. She tells him she’s excited about passing her entrance exam. He invites her inside for a pitcher of Margaritas to celebrate. She nixes the idea because of Raquel’s obvious reaction if she found out. (Smart move.) He offers to take her to lunch instead and she accepts. (Not a smart move.) As Paula heads back to tell MJ about the exam, ominous musical refrains in the background clue us in that Roberto’s intentions are not exactly honorable.
Meanwhile, Pau rushes in to tell her father about her exam results. He congratulates her and introduces her to Chucho. Chucho repeats the mantra and explains that Sr. Alex has hired him to take care of her family. Pau registers this as one more benefit to having Alex for a BIL and tells her papi about her lunch date with Roberto before racing off to find Mary Jo. Chucho wonders if it’s smart for her to be having lunch with a married man. Pedro tells Chucho he doesn’t think there will be a problem. Chucho doesn’t look so sure and Pedro suddenly doesn’t seem to be now either.
Pau finds out from Zeke that Mary Jo is out to lunch with Alex. So she rushes up to MJ’s room to ransack the closet for something nifty to wear for lunch out with Bobo.
Back at the idyllic domicile of the wretchedly rich and manipulative Maura, Uli has made a special lunch. (It seems this guy has a number of “acquired” talents.) He tells the two sisters about the anonymous phone call he made earlier asking for Mary Jo and how he hung up when Alex took it. Mau and Lis are delighted. Lis says he should continue calling her. Uli says eventually he’ll have to have a name to give them. The girls make up the name “Mario Aguirre” for him. He says fine, but he wonders how far they want to take this and warns them it’s a very dangerous game they’re all playing. “You shouldn’t underestimate Alex Lombardo.” Mau replies that Alex shouldn’t underestimate them, either. Uli negotiates his collaboration for a place of his own.
At the restaurant, Alex seems a bit too quiet and MJ asks what’s going on. Alex admits to being a bit weirded out by the conversation he just had with his mother. They’ve made their peace and he’s not one to be judgmental he says. MJ tells him there’s no accounting for people who fall desperately in love. She still wonders, though, if he doesn’t still have his doubts about her because he thinks she might have stuck with him only to get out of a difficult situation [salir del paso = to get out of a tight spot] with Bruno. He admits that, to be honest, at times he does.
Meanwhile, back at Mau’s palatial pad, Uli takes advantage of her momentary absence to make a play for Lis. (Slick squeeze-play alert!) He asks Lis if she’s got a boyfriend. She says she’s taking a breather in between lovers. “—What a waste! [¡Qué desperdicio!] A girl like you shouldn’t be alone.” He moves in close, kisses her shoulder (gag alert!) and suggests that while she’s in between “prospective candidates” they could become “friends with benefits” [amigos con derechos]. Lis smiles slightly and says she’ll think about it. Maura returns with a check and says that will get him a junior suite at a hotel. He kids about wanting a “senior suite” and she tells him not to be greedy. He pockets the check, gives Lis a knowing glance, and then goes up to pack.
Mau tells Lis that you have to be careful with Uli because he’s a hustler [aprovechado]. Lis agrees and says that he’s also likeable and good-looking so he can get by with it. Mau says the word is that he’s bi-sexual. Lis laughs and says “bi” boys are the greatest lovers in the world. “Yes, but watch out.” [abusado] She gives her little sis a PSA for STD’s from studs with …er… symmetrically swinging pendulums. “If you get involved with him use a rubber.” (Viewerville eagerly waits to see if she pulls one conveniently out of her purse and will mention the preferred brand.) Lil Sis is offended she should even have to mention it.
Back at the restaurant, Mary Jo tells Alex again that she doesn’t understand why he keeps her around if all she does is cause him problems. She says she’s already told him (ad nauseum) that she is perfectly fine with a divorce and signing away the money. He agrees he ought to have probably done that from the first, but now it’s too late. She asks “too late for what?” He says she is too much a part of him now. She says he’s suffering, but he says he would suffer more having her apart from him. Just then Pau and Bobo show up at the table. Bobo says they’re there to celebrate. Pau explains that she just passed her entrance exams. Congratulations! They go to find their table. MJ says she wonders if it isn’t a bad idea for Pau to hang out with Roberto since he’s Raquel’s husband. Alex doesn’t think so. He says the guy’s a lazy parasite but he’s not bad. Either way, if she is worried he’ll talk to him about it. She says no, she’d rather not offend him unnecessarily.
Alex changes the subject back to them. He has told her what he thinks. He wants to know (for the umpteenth and one time) what she’s feeling about him (apparently, the signature phrase of this telenovela). She says there’s way lots, but it’s hard for her to discuss it with him because it means first discussing Bruno. They decide to take their conversation somewhere else.
At the other side of the (very noisy) restaurant Bobo starts pumping Pau for information. “Those two seem to be really in love, don’t’ you think?” Pau says why not since Alex is a real hunk [mangazo] and her sister is gorgeous. He says, well sure, but their wedding was a little strange. Pau asks what he means by “strange”. Bobo says because Alex didn’t tell anyone about it. Pau catches the drift and says it seems he brought her there to wheedle information out of her [sonsacar]. He denies it and says he was just trying to make conversation. Pau says “then let’s talk about your wife.” They agree that neither of them likes Raquel much. Pau wonders why he hasn’t divorced her. Roberto says he hasn’t because the family is “fussy” [especial], and because for Raquel a divorce would mean admitting publicly her failure as a wife. (This is something the Material Sis can really appreciate.) Pau rolls her eyes. “Sheesh!”
We beam to Cenote Samuél in the Yucatán, a naturally lighted cave with a lake, and, apparently, one of the romantic spots Alex must have used in his days of sowing oats in the wild. He and Mary Jo are there discussing what happened to her after his “burial” and what she was thinking and feeling then. (It’s a variation of what we’ve all heard before, but a very provocative and romantic one, so I’ll indulge those of us in Viewerville who live to O.D. on this kind of stuff.)
“…Later, when I saw him [Bruno] return, I cried tears of happiness because he was alive! Then, he began his explanation and I wasn’t able to believe it.” He talked about how he hated Alex, about how cruel and wicked Alex was, how vengeful, and how many times people had tried to kill him; that sooner or later it was going to happen and that that was why the idea of this deception had occurred to him. Mary Jo had told him she thought that was absurd and that she felt he’d planned the whole thing but he swore to her, he lied in his oath to her [perjudicar] that he hadn’t. She refused to participate in the fraud. She was so frightened she went back home without even telling her sister.
When she got back home there he was. “He had threatened my father and told us he would put all of us in jail, that there was no proof against him, and he forced me to go back again, promising me that when the will was taken care of he would let me go. Here then, you appear. --I swear that at that moment I felt like dying. I was paralyzed. I didn’t know what to do or what to say.” She admits she was sick from fright. Then, afterward she found out Alex couldn’t remember anything, but deep-down [en el fondo] she felt that wasn’t really so. Alex admits to being totally confused at the time and having his doubts, and then telling Victoria that he had never seen her before, but also feeling he had to get to the bottom of things. That was why he was so friendly towards her; but also it was because she seemed so frightened that he was sure somebody was forcing her into it.
MJ says once Alex invited her father back with them she was convinced that he was a kind and loving person. Afterwards, when Bruno’s harassment wore her out [agobiar] she would only feel safe when she was around Alex. “Whether it was love at first sight or if little by little it grew from the little gestures, the gifts, the looks….. At first I resisted because I didn’t want to. Bruno had hurt me deeply and I was afraid that the same would happen with you.” Alex swears that never with him, it wouldn’t. She admits to being gullible but says she wants to believe what he tells her. She loves him like mad now and isn’t ashamed to tell him so. “It should last for as long as it might –whatever God wishes.” Alex confesses that he’s also madly in love with her, but says he wants it to last forever, for a lifetime. They kiss passionately and then make love in the lake--difficult, but not impossible--unless bat guano, spiders and snakes are not your style.

How many times do you need to ask someone how they feel about you? I feel like Alex and MJ Ask each other that way too much. I think it's pretty evident how each feels, don't you? Except for the occassional pyschotic accusations on Alex's part and MJ's "when are we going to get divorced?" they're pretty much in love with each other.

In the words of Jan Brady Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. Just substitute it with Maura. You are as repulsive as Raquel. Now I see why Alex did not offer to marry you.
What's that old saying birds of an feather flock together.Ulises is right Alex is no fool so in your pathetic desperation to break them up. You deserve whatever bad karma that comes your way.
What makes you think you're so much better than MJ. Money and social status does not mean or make you an better person.
As for Bruno how in the world is he qualified to run the Lombardo company? Wasn't expelled from college, and all he has shown most of the time he doesn't work.
When he does do some work it's illegal. He's willing to build buildings that can pass safety inpections and bribe people if he has to. Imagine him being in charge and all the lawsuits the company would have to fight in court.
I did say it was wrong move by Alex to say he forgot his memory.
Then dopey Victoria wow you really are an egotist. You and your two bad seeds have put Alex through hell. All you care about is hearing how good a mother you are.
What a piece a crap. So my question for everyone since the question was asked the other day to name the worst novela villian.
Name the most annoying and idiot character you have seen in any novela to date.

I can see why they are both insecure with the situation. After all, MJ might have been in on the plot to kill him & he doesn't want to let lust or is it love cloud his thinking. Besides, Mom & Fernando keep placing doubts in his mind.
As for MJ, poor country girl, how could he love her, but good grief, look what he has done for you & your family. Not so bad so far. But she has given herself to him, & of course the lout doesn't know she was a virgen.

Levy is growing on me. I do find him a bit difficult to understand. I think I've just become accustomed to native Mexican accents. I work with quite a few people born in Mexico, and most of the actors on TNs fall into this category. I remember Jarocha commenting that she hated the way Levy speaks, supposedly due to trying to "Mexicanize" his Cuban accent. At any rate, I need captions with him way more than the other actors.
It certainly looks, from the avances, that the declare-Alex- BSC idea isn't going to work out for Bruno, given Alex's access to a personal helicopter 24-7.
Roberto is the most enigmatic character I've seen in a TN. Mostly they telegraph bad guy/gal or good guy/gal in neon lights early on. I can't tell from one episode to the next whether he's going to help Alex and MJ or join Team Mexitrash (from Eurotrash) in their plotting.
I can't stand the sight of Uli. That overbleached hair, that shark like grin. Ewwww!
Thanks for putting down the location for the last scene. I tried to read the caption, but the closed captioning in Spanish kept covering it up and, for a reason too boring to describe, I can't turn them off with my remote. I have to get up and do it on the actual TV.
This is the 3rd or 4th novela I've seen the actor playing Chucho in. He's actually quite good. He always plays the earthy campesino and, while old, seems to look exactly the same for years and years. His signature "schtick" is having a catchphrase that he uses throughout the novela. In this one it's "canicas". If I remember correctly, in Mariana de la Noche it was "cabalmente".

It certainly looks, from the avances, that the declare-Alex- BSC idea isn't going to work out for Bruno, given Alex's access to a personal helicopter 24-7.
Roberto is the most enigmatic character I've seen in a TN. Mostly they telegraph bad guy/gal or good guy/gal in neon lights early on. I can't tell from one episode to the next whether he's going to help Alex and MJ or join Team Mexitrash (from Eurotrash) in their plotting.
I can't stand the sight of Uli. That overbleached hair, that shark like grin. Ewwww!
Thanks for putting down the location for the last scene. I tried to read the caption, but the closed captioning in Spanish kept covering it up and, for a reason too boring to describe, I can't turn them off with my remote. I have to get up and do it on the actual TV.
This is the 3rd or 4th novela I've seen the actor playing Chucho in. He's actually quite good. He always plays the earthy campesino and, while old, seems to look exactly the same for years and years. His signature "schtick" is having a catchphrase that he uses throughout the novela. In this one it's "canicas". If I remember correctly, in Mariana de la Noche it was "cabalmente".

Thanks, Jardinera, excellent recap. Seems that we're into a repetitious cycle, where we can just insert Bruno's lines, Raquel's lines, Vicky's lines, etc.

I think Roberto is curious about Alex's and MJ marriage and how Bruno factors in it. Remember he has nothing to do all day an didn't he say he was bored.

Mrs. Levy agree with about Juan Miguel but put most of the blame on the writers. They should have given him another profession other than psychiatrist. He should never had Blanca/Ivette back in his house after killing Viviana. Also they made judge Velarde stupid too.
After finding out about Isabel scam with Estfania he let Estfania still stay in his house to influence his thinking about Marychuy his own daughter.

Televisa has yet to make a novela with a villain I would call the best (as in, most villainous) I have ever seen. However, if things keep going like this, my vote for the biggest villain of this story is going to be Vic. Not because she had an extramarital affair with a married man, and not even because she expected her second husband and father of her children to support them as well as his child by his first wife. No, she is a villain because she allows her partiality for her own children, her guilt over their conception, and her need to be seen as a moral woman and the best mother, to completely blind her to their defects. There was a reason her true love knowingly left everything to Alex: Because he understood that if he left Bruno or Raquel with any way of controlling the family company, they would run it into the ground, and if he left them control of enough money to support themselves in his will, they would run through it in a minute and then look to their mother to support them. And who would their mother look to?? Why, Alex, of course. So why not just cut to the chase and leave it all in Alex's hands to start with, since he would not only keep the company going and prosperous, but he would make sure they were supported as their mother believed they should be. Vic seems to have never pushed her children to believe they should support themselves, and she continues to believe they should be supported no matter what they do. Also, as Anonymous 5:18 pointed out, in what way is Bruno qualified to run the family company? He has NEVER been qualified, and his own father knew it, but Vic just got mad when her true love refused to play along with her delusions. Her fury at his refusal was undoubtedly a direct contributor to the accident that caused his death, but her guilt over that takes the form of continued willful blindness to the faults of her own children. She knows that Bruno always bullied Alex, but she excuses it as childish jealousy. She knows Bruno flunked out of school AND HID IT FROM THEM, and yet feels he should not be punished for this. Alex continues to support and tolerate Bruno's behavior where anyone else would have cut him off years ago, and she views it as Alex's obligation because they're half-brothers even if Alex didn't know it until recently (and now that he does know it, what exactly does that change??). Alex supports and tolerates her useless, embittered, petty, and alcoholic daughter and her wastrel husband as well, and Vic feels that his obligation as well. She claims to love him like a mother, but when push comes to shove (literally), she chooses Bruno, when anyone with even half a brain could tell he is love overdue for some really tough love.
As for biggest idiot in this novela, so far my vote is going to Fernando, for allowing his partiality for Vic to overrule his allegiance to his best friend of years as well as any common sense. Even if Vic and/or Fernando help Alex when Bruno attempts his coup, I'm willing to bet Vic continues to insist that Bruno wouldn't ever plot to get rid of Alex in a more permanent fashion, and Fernando continues to push Vic's agenda.

Great, detailed recap! I don't mind these more mellow episodes. If something big happened everyday, then this novela would be even more contrived (than normal). I also think it's perfectly natural that MJ and Alex would continue to have these cnversations about what they feel for each other, considering they were perfect strangers a month before and now they are living as man and wife. Each time they speak, they let down their guard a little more and reveal a bit more about themselves. Before it was all about attraction, now it's really about love and compatibility. That feels pretty realistic to me.
Not sure where things are going with the useless rich gang. It seems like they are just bored and doing this to entertain themselves. They all need jobs! I do like Bobo and the fact that we can't tell which way he will swing (morally and sexually). ;)

Jardinera, thanks so much for the great recap. I envy you having DH watch this kabuki dance with you. I couldn't get mine to watch unless there was some sort of sports involved. And he is the one that introduced me to novelas while on a trip in Mexico.

I have a blast watching with Mr. 5ft. He always comes up with the quickest way to just end the story and get it over with. For this one it's "just plant microphones all over the house and then you'd have proof against Bruno!" Well, sure, but then there would be no nookie!
Speaking of which, I'm glad they've kept the counts of congress and fistfights even...or are we ahead one on congress? Did the shower count? Some tn's there's body count, but this one has nookie count.

Most annoying and stupid character - that is challenging b/c so many novelas love having protagonists act this way through most of the novela. I put up with Juan Miguel b/c of WL. I watched FELS initially but had to drop out and one of the main reasons was because of Sofia. She was the definition of insane (doing the same thing expecting a different result) especially with her wicked mother. And though I don't watch it consistently, from the recaps I glean that Macerana and Paloma can be very annoying and passive as all hell breaks loose on them in the form of Carlota. In all of these cases, I blame the writers for being lazy not the actors/characters.

Juanita, I have no real idea what "canicas" means. As you said, it literally means "marbles". Looks like Chucho is going to repeat it a lot. In context it seems to me like a mild, harmless expression of surprise like, for example, cheese and crackers! Holy Moly! Son of a Gun!

Karen, in which novela did the Chucho guy play a baddie? I'm curious. I only ever saw him as a saintly old guy. Once he was kind of a witch doctor saintly guy in which he threw bones on a table to predict someone's future. I'm pretty sure that was Mariana de la Noche.

I have to agree with the many comments about the sound quality. Especially last night, without CCs it was impossible to hear half the conversations because of fountains, music, etc. In the other one I'm watching (but ready to bail) En Nombre del Amor, two characters met in a club to have an important conversation but I think there was live music in the club and the singer drowned them out almost completely. I also think our frustration with this comes from not being native Spanish speakers. I'm pretty sure if we saw the same scenes with the people speaking English we'd hardly notice the background noise. There's some sort of language thingy I don't know the word for that means you can hear only part of a sentence but fill in the rest of it from your own "data bank" as it were.
But I don't have this same problem with Telemundo's novelas. They seem to have borrowed the NBC recording equipment! (NBC owns Telemundo.)

This show is doing really well in the Displays of Love department. So far we've received two steaming hot sessions and two simple love interludes--a nice variety. The Yucatan location was just beautiful--that massive tree didn't even look real. Isolated location + water all around + Alex's tight underwear = my idea of romantic (unless I see anything crawling or slithering in which case I am out of there). Jardinera, thanks for the breakdown of MJ's long monologue. FINALLY she got the entire story out from start to finish. He needed to hear it.

This show is doing really well in the Displays of Love department. So far we've received two steaming hot sessions and two simple love interludes--a nice variety. The Yucatan location was just beautiful--that massive tree didn't even look real. Isolated location + water all around + Alex's tight underwear = my idea of romantic (unless I see anything crawling or slithering in which case I am out of there). Jardinera, thanks for the breakdown of MJ's long monologue. FINALLY she got the entire story out from start to finish. He needed to hear it.

My stomach turns when I watch the novela. I also seem to feel agitated the next day just thinking of the craziness. From now on, I am just reading the wonderful recaps. I find it more tolerable than viewing it in person!!
Thanks, Jardinera , for all the details. I agree with you about that scene in the cave [?]. It was really surreal. Beautiful , but somehow eery. Perhaps I felt that way because I am a bit claustrophobic. I have a couple predictions. First, I think that Roberto o o is going to come to the light and eventually join the good guys. Maybe he'll even end up with Paula after she matures a little. Unlikle some actors anbd actresses who are always cast as good or bad, Marcelo has been cast as a good guy [Pasion, Alborada] and as a bad dude [Heridas de Amor , Amar sin Limites] . I think he might actually redeem himself in this one....and even get a job by the end of the novela. !!! Also , I have a feeling that the person who finally stops Bruno is Vicky because in the opening montage , she stops him as he is reaching for MJ thus allowing MJ to fling open the doors and join a shirtless Al on the beach [Que???] About Vicky's delusion concerning her children, I think that mothers in general tend to protect the weakest link in their chain of offspring...that would be Bruno in this case. It brings to mind a story told to me by a disciplinary principal . He called a mother at home to ask where her truant son was. ''Why he's standing right here next to me.'' ''Remarkable,'' replied the principal, ''he's standing right here next to me. TOO !''

We are so on agreement on Vicky, she created all the problems and Nando is aiding and abetting her, what a pair. As I held a place on line today in the cold drizzle for 1 1/2 hrs for H1N1 for my nietos, they waited in the car, I knew I'd have reading candy this PM in the form of your recap, jardinera. Thanks... As to your question of whether rich bad guys always sit around doing nothing, the answer is this: From the viewers standpoint, yes, they generally do nothing, although occasionally they have super important conversations, fights and sex. As soon as we leave, they all work hard, take care of their kids, and save the planet (I think :)

Novelera - The novela was "Soñadoras" and it came out in 1998. The focus of it was on the young people and Jose Carlos Ruiz (Chucho) played Eugenio de La Pena, father of one of the young women. I just remember his character was obsessed with a woman who was in love the protagonist played by Arturo Peniche.

My totally non-Spanish speaking hooked on Nascar brother has become a regular, to the point of telling the characters what he thinks they might be doing, and yelling what they should be doing, oftentimes before I can even confirm what's going on. ROFL
He ogles MJ, I ogle Alex, we tag-team them and concoct crazy plots to break them up and run off with them ourselves. What the heck is in the Sortilegio water that we would be doing this? *evil laugh*

My husband would definately watch Sorti if we had CCs. He's always asking about the action, etc.
I think Vicky is the wrong mom for Bruno. She would have been good with a child with low self esteem. Bruno needed a strong hand, she has never been able to handle him. She wants to be liked and won't dicipline him now or in years past. Saying no is hard, but best in the long run. My thoughts anyway.......

Sandy~~~Hub and I are not big Michael Jackson fans, but maybe we'll catch the movie because we love going to the movies and there has been none that we've wanted to see lately. Hub does not watch the novelas , but doesn't mind my telenovios. He even bought the Alborada and Amor Real DVDs for me. He's all about the Phillies right now. Vivi~~~I LOVE Project Runway. Did you watch the other show on Bravo a few months ago with Izak Mizrahzi [sp?] ? I think it was called ''The Fashion Show.'' It was equally as good.

Vivi--we watched Rubi together from start to finish, back in 2005... but that was English-subtitled DVD capitulos. (That was his first and only one. He would have moved heaven and earth for Barbara Mori, and I don't blame him!)

Susanlynn-I didn't watch Fashion Show, as part of my loyalty to PR. :) I was waiting for it to finally come back on the new network. I have to say, both my nephew and I have been disappointed by the quality of designers this year. Most can't seem to compare with others from the previous seasons. I still admire the skill it takes to whip up those outfits with such little time to plan, design and sew!

Jardinera, Kat, et al with hubbies that watch TN, I am beginning to think mine lurks as well. He tells me what the next TN will be as well as the plot before it even starts. He drives me nuts. I think he would probably watch if the TN weren't so long. He wants the nuts and bolts and then moves on.

I agree with Karen some of these writer are very lazy with character development and how they are portrayed in the story.

I don't agree with Bruno being the weakest sorry. Alex was a little helpless what 2 year old when Victoria and Antonio married each.
Bruno picked, bullied and was abusive to poor Alex. Why because his mother married his father. His mother also gave Alex the love and attention a mother gives to an son.
Bruno to me has always been manipulative and he was four years older than Alex. Thank God Antonio recognize the shortcomings in twins. Because if he had left everything to Bruno everything Stephe said would have come to pass.
While Victoria maybe an author she doesn't look like she's turning out books like Stephen King. Antonio should gave Bruno and Raquel enough money along with their houses, in his will.
He also should have stated that Alex should give Bruno enough money to start his own company. Also in the will if at anytime the company goes bankrupt or the twins run out of the money he set aside for them. Alex is not any way obligated to help or bail them out.

Very cute recap! You're right, a boring episode, but Alex & MJ do lovie-dovie very nicely. Bat guano be d-d.
While I'm on the subject of people who are not winning any awards in this novela, one is due to Antonio as well. For one thing, if he was going to stick Alex with the charge of standing in for him everywhere except in bed with Vic, then at the very least he should have made it clear to Alex the REASON he was doing so was because he felt more than a stepfather's obligation toward the loathsome twins. At the same time, he was obviously as wimpy as Vic in the image department. Vic didn't want her children to know that Antonio was their father because they loved the man they believed was their father, because she couldn't bear to hear them call her "slut" (which they would have), and because she knew they would have hit Antonio up for even more money than they were already taking from him. (The fact she didn't contest Antonio's will after he died --even though she had been arguing with him about it-- speaks volumes for what she knows but won't admit to herself about her children.)
But I notice that Antonio didn't attach any conditions to the terms of his will -- all he did was stick it to Alex, his legitimate heir, and stick it to him BIG TIME. Raquel and Bruno don't have to do anything to be maintained, and there is no "out" clause for Alex. If anything happens to the company that supports them all --no matter what that "anything" might be-- Alex is still on the hook for maintaining them in the lavish style to which they had become accustomed. And if Antonio didn't know perfectly well that Bruno and Raquel would continue to stick it to Alex even if it meant Alex was living in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere, well...
Basically, both of Alex's parents took care to see that Alex was shafted and continued to be shafted for the rest of his life. Alex's best option would be to renounce any and all claims to the inheritance and his name, sign everything over to Vic (if he couldn't bring himself to give it to Bruno and Raquel) in exchange for complete and total severance from any and all ties to the family, and to go off somewhere to make his way for himself. But of course he won't do that (that must be his blood mother's genes, because what niceness there is in him certainly doesn't come from his father or his stepmother!), thanks to an upbringing that was far more successful at inculcating him with an exaggerated sense of family obligation that is absolutely not shared by anyone else in his family.
Stephe has a point: That family totally deserves to have Bruno be successful in his coup. With him running the company, there will be nothing left in less than no time. The only downside to this, of course, is that if Alex succeeds in saving himself and remaking his life, he will certainly feel obliged to support Vic, and she will nag him incessantly to give Bruno another chance.

If he'd done more to show how completely he lacked any faith in his precious (though illegitimate) firstborn and said firstborn's twin, Vic would never have forgiven him. So he took the wimp's way out, wrote a will that essentially made his only legitimate child his stand-in, and hoped Vic would see the sense in that. Big mistake.

That's how I feel, Incog. A conglomerate like Lombardo Construction may look like a dream to run, but seeing to its upkeep as well as to the familia's upkeep is nothing short of Ulcer City. Everyone can lounge around and enjoy profits they didn't cause except for Alex. Being able to take a helicopter to work is posh, but hardly worth all the migraines, legalities, taxes, paperwork, loss prevention, lawsuits, and worry over keeping a ton of employees and their families fed. Not to mention threats of kidnapping, paparazzi, and attempts on your life. And relatives sniping at your heels.
And when you actually have a caring soul, it's even HARDER. I don't know why Alex isn't bat s#!% crazy for real.

I think Bruno still has his house but Rocky & Bobo spent up all Rocky's money partying and had to sell their house to pay their debts. That's why they're living with Alex.
I don't think Bobo will be down with Team Mexitrash because wrecking MJ will cause Alex to get mad at him, which causes Alex not to pay for his lifestyle anymore. Alex is obligated to pay for Rocky & Bruto, not Bobo.

I'm not sure I agree totally that Alex doesn't mind the Nando/Mama hook-up because he thinks it's only one-sided, an "unrequited love". Alex told him a while back he wouldn't judge his friend. On the other hand, I don't think Bruno could have guessed that his father's crutch would have gotten stuck in the sewer grate like that. He had no reason to do something like that to Antonio if the will was set up to give it all to Alex like that. His mother was arguing to have it changed to give Bruno more as his elder son would deserve.

I often have this problem when I'm watching TNs en español. As you said, we don't need as many sound cues when we hear English. Alex insecurity with Mj stems from her association with Bruno. Considering the history between Bruno and Alex even someone as gorgeous as him needs reassurance too.

As Incog pointed out Victoria would have been furious with Antonio and may have never forgiven him. Victoria is in such a serious an frightening denial about the twins. Especially Bruno it has lead to the attempted murder.
In the will i suggested at 12:40 it would shown Victoria how irresponsible both of the twins were. Most of all it would have shown her that Bruno could not have handled running an conglomerate like Lombardo construction.
As Incog also pointed out it would have let Vicki know how an complete lack of faith Antonio had in Bruno.
I think even the will he did leave still showed how little faith he had in Bruno that's why she was furious about the will when they were going to Bruno's college.

1) Anybody think Uli possibly likes the style of life he's been living? He doesn't exactly seem eager to change it like some characters have in other novelas. He seems very comfortable in his skin to me. Bobo, on the other hand, doesn't seem happy at all and seems to have a complex about who he is and why he is this way. Perhaps because he comes from a "casa muerta", a well-respected, wealthy family who lost its money. He marries into money, true, but to a shrewish woman who brings out the worst in him. He won't work because he says his degree is useless in that business. Seems to me if he'd married a woman who could have brought out the best in him he'd have come to Alex and asked where he might fit in and Alex would have been able to think of something and to have found a place for his basic talent and smarts. After all he did make it through college, unlike Broodo.
2) I'm wondering about punishments for some of these characters from the Dark Side.
--I think Lis and Uli should come down with a case of HIV if they ever get together.

On punishment for Vicky: With the incredible fly paper attraction men have for Vicky, if, for her punishment, she goes to the manacomia, she’ll have a torrid affair with the head psychiatrist first, then the director general later. If she goes to the carcel, she’ll “get it on” with two guards at the same time all the while having many, many visits from loyal Alex and telling all other inmates what a great son and daughter Raquel and Bruno are. Fernando will change professions so he can defend her..... just wait and see.....

Re: blaming Vicki---It is heartbreaking & frustrating to watch Vicki's defense of Bruno, but sometimes it's all about NATURE, not NURTURE: There are kids who are wired, chemically, to behave in a certain way despite the grandest of efforts on the part of one or both parents-so so complicated. If you read Oprah's interview with the mother of Columbine killer, you can see that a mother's denial is a universal, compelling phenomenon that's been around for centuries---which is why we often have to tolerate these TN mothers AND...the TN sons who defend mothers at all costs. I think the 'SAGRADO" business is more extreme in Mexico & beyond extreme in telenovela land.

I think Vicki had some money and Samuel left her and the kids some after his death. It was nothing compared to what She has and had with Antonio.

Once we choose to recognize a "mistake" as Vicki might have done, then we should choose to deal with it in the best way possible for everybody concerned. In this situation I guess we're griping because we feel she is not when we think she should be. Of course, we have the advantage as being omnipresent viewers. That brings up an entirely different question about whether any other observant and trustworthy, adult third party might have mentioned this to her in the past, say like Dr. Hernan, but it appears that he did not. --But that is JMHO. : ? )

Jardinera, thanks for a great detailed recap. I deliberately missed part of the show as I had my mute button on and I was reading. I wasn't going to watch this show but I missed the fun of the recappers and contributors. I previewed some of the other capitulos on video. I might simply be too old to enjoy it but I get bored with the hero/heroine's doubts followed by long scenes of love-making. I want to learn Spanish with sound - not visual effects.

Victoria has had that third trustworthy and observant party bt her side. Felipa even she can't get through Vicki's thick skull about Bruno. Felipa's known her longer than Hernan. She doesn't want to accept that she has failed as a mother concerning the twins. Especially Bruno.

When Felipa first work for Vicki she was an servant and employee. When Vicki came back from London with the twins and Felipa looked her up she told Felipa she wanted her to live with her not as an employee but as a companion and friend. I agree she does shut her down when she's trying to voice her opinions about what's going on. Vicki can't handle the truth or the reality of what she is seeing. So she made up this fake reality and she need s confirmation that she a good mother for her to feel good about her enabling actions. The one whose suffered the most has been Alex. In real life if that had happen they all would have been thrown out of the house and it would have been fought out in the courts. Since we dealing with an TN Alex has to go along with it to pacify Vicki and continue being the nice guy.

Anon.: I guess everyone else is watching football. : ? ) You may be correct about having Felipa come back as a friend and companion. I've forgotten that detail, but even so - and it may be a minor point-- I would say the employee/employer relationship still exists the way the characters have been written. Vicki is a part of the monied class now even if she might not have been before. She's an accomplished author. Vicki may have said she wanted a companion and friend, but Felipa works in the kitchen although she eats with the family at times; and she talks to Zeke as if she still considers herself part of the house staff. She "assigns positions" for the staff, as she said to Raquel, but only under the auspices of "Sra. Victoria." Felipa has no means of support and no authority unless it comes from Vicki or Alex. That is why it seems to me that Felipa is not her equal and still is just a sounding board. That's also then why I don't see her really ever taking her advice seriously.
Good reminder about Felipa and Vic's relationship, Anonymous 4:05 -- thanks! Felipa does volunteer her opinion, as well as give it when asked, but Vic always shuts Felipa down when Felipa says anything Vic doesn't want to hear / admit to herself. Notice how Felipa has often said, "Well, if you don't want my opinion, why did you ask me for it?" and "If you only want me to tell you what you want to hear, then say so, and tell me what you want to hear." Vic is not so stupid as not to recognize these comments for what they are, so she tries to dismiss them, which is how it is that Felipa keeps saying things like this to her. But I think this is where Fernando's puppy love is becoming so important to Vic, because Fernando's feelings for Vic so thoroughly cloud his judgment to such an extent that he will almost never say anything to her that might hurt her. He's well aware that Vic wants to believe she is a good mother to all her children and that all her children are a reflection of her able parenting. But where someone else might be telling her that she should not let a parent's affection blind her to possible reality, no matter how unpalatable, and pointing out that if they know exactly what tricks Bruno is trying to get up to they can try to help protect him by steering him in another direction, he buys into her delusions for fear of upsetting her and making her not want to see him any more. (Worse, he then tries to make his best friend, who is the biggest victim of these delusions, believe in Vic's delusions as well, which belief would be severely detrimental to his friend.)

You make a very good point about Felipa and Vic's relationship, Jardinera -- I definitely agree. That is one reason I believe Fernando's puppy love for her is becoming so important to Vic. However, since Fernando is important to Vic in another way (his relationship to Alex), I can't help feeling that if Fernando were to echo and even reinforce Felipa's comments, Vic might well find herself forced to stop deluding herself and to consider other possibilities. Unfortunately, because Fernando is so afraid of losing Vic's "respect" and trust, he relegates himself to the position of yes-man even when he has good reason to believe she is wrong.

As is often the case, I'm fascinated by the peripheral characters in this. Especially Roberto and Raquel. In a perverse way, they are perfectly suited. And Eric, well, he truly looks as though he crawled out from under a rock, blinking at and warming himself in the sun.
I'm a little more generous than the rest of you with Vicky. I think that Bruno was simply born bad. I believe that Mary Poppins would have struck out with him. A genuine sociopath if you will. Raquel is just a selfish rich girl. I guess you could say that Alex turned out OK, if being a roue counts for nothing. So maybe her mothering skills are only so-so, I'm not quite ready to condemn her.

No, I can't see Bruno knowing Antonio's crutch would get stuck in a hole, but I can totally see him sending a faceless biker to "accidentally" run Antonio over for number one, marrying Vicky and taking a chunk of her love from Bruno, bringing his effing son Alex into the mix, and doting on son Alex. And for number two, trying to put a possible crimp in that will. He may not have wanted Antonio dead, just incapacitated and out of Alex's ear long enough for Bruno to weasel himself a better position for a future takeover. "C'mon Al, we can do this together, yada yada" Antonio's death could have been a screw-up.

Doris, if you only want to watch the scenes with Alex and MJ, I suggest that you watch the show on youtube because they do a good job of separating the scenes with the two. Just in case you're interested. :-)
I was watching the show on youtube but sadly lots of parts were removed so even when I try to get ahead I have to cope with only the scenes with MJ and Alex. But really, I guess it's not so bad because like you said, they are the strong points of the show.

Stephe/Anon?: Well now, I guess I will concede the point of Antonio being murder #1 and say yes, the motorcycle could have been a possible f-up for Bruno if he was only trying to get Antonio put out of commission in order t have a chance to sweet talk him into sweetening up the will, but that seems too complicated to me, especially since he hated the man and seems never to have "connected" with him. OTH, if he was sociopathic and tried to get Mami all to himself at 18 or 19and really was behind that pole to see his "handiwork", that works better for me. Maybe I'm just tired, but it makes sense now.

Jardinera great job. I get more enjoyment out of your translations then the Novela itself. I was thinking, when bruno made the comment about Alex needed an asylum, will this be another 15 years of an innocent person being in there, like the last Novela, Manana es para siempere. I couldn't possibly go through that again. Just picture it. Alex in there and MJ has all the information to get him out but won't because she is afraid bruno will put her papa in jail DUH. I don't see anyone either, the way things have panned out so far, but then again, Bruno is such a loose cannon and the only reason he hasn't killed is because the attempt failed. The way Paula keeps getting in his face... that is an accidental death waiting to happen right there, with his temper. If Pimp Daddy ever betrays him, yeah that would do it too.

Mrs. Levy, that is something to consider, Antonio sick but alive. I would think, in that case, he would be the only truly permanent member of Team Alex, without wavering. Which would make things even MORE impossible for Bruno. His and Vicky's marriage might have even broken up by now as Antonio's continued support of Alex would have driven her deeper into Bruno's corner.

Carlos, yes. I also loved the Chucho character as the shaman. I believe that was Mariana de la Noche. I had forgotten he could change himself into animals (birds?) I'd love to hear the actor tell why he always does that word repetition. Or maybe he did it once, and now the producers who hire him ask him to do it always because it resonates with the public.
Novelera: I remember the shaman on MDLN. I only saw a couple minutes here or there, but now I remember the actor as him. I like the Chucho character and the way he and Pedro interact.

Cara i agree that she is not responsible for giving birth to an bad seed. What she is responsible for the environment she created for Bruno that allowed him to think he could get away with anything and she would still protect him.
That's why Antonio had live long enough for to see the attempt on Alex's life. Can you imagine Vicki and Antonio going toe to toe each defending their own son.
Now that would have been way better to see and the end results. I believe most have said Alex takes after his father especially in the intelligence department.

Yes. I would say Fernando in FELS might win the prize for most eliminations and without a lot of space in between. That was out of proportion and a mistake on the part of the writers....IMHO
Personally, I'd rather see dark action that doesn't always result in death....but maybe I am in a telnovelactic minority!

On the Univision website it lists Sorti as number 2 after ENDA. Not too bad. I notice there is no show on Thursday. Do you wnat me to post anything about the Grammys or set up a general discussion?
One thing I like about this show is that the bad guy doesn't always win. In Manana Barb's plans were always working out until near the end when it all fell apart. I think you need some kind of balance to make it interesting.
Just my two cents, I would prefer a general discussion. Love to hear what everyone has to say about the show.

I'm still hanging in there with Sortilegio, but can't see that it's ever going to get very exciting. The first few episodes were the best, but to me, it's gone down hill. Now the mystery calls are going to cause Alex to get jealous! Yawn! Can't believe Bruno will be able to have Alex committed. Two TNs in a row with looney frame-ups! Definitely wouldn't be sticking with this if it weren't for you great recappers! But, I might hop over to the next TN that starts up. Couldn't be worse than this one. Well, at least we get a little eye candy with Levi, who is starting to grow on me. But he seems insincere with his love at times.

Beth: I think you are right, this TN is probably going southward for a while, but most of them do before the finale. The issue that I am having with Sorti is the audio quality. I am watching novelas to resuscitate my Spanish. There are plenty of cheesy movies and stories in English that both my husband and I could enjoy TOGETHER, if I hadn't made improving my Spanish a goal. The quality of the audio makes it very hard to do that. I've never, even at kindergarden productions, heard such bad audio. The sound in friend's vacation videos is better than this. I really hate to be so negative, but in this modern world, there is really no excuse for this.....

According to the Mexico episodes the episode tonight would be 25. So go to youtube and search for sortilegio 25. That's probably the fastest.
Televisa or Univision are forcing people to delete the episodes on youtube. Those that are on there now have poor quality,not just audio but visual too. Before they started doing that the episodes that we are seeing now we could watch it on youtube and the audio was much better.

Most of the US television networks have become pretty proactive about making people and/or sites like YouTube take down clips from current shows, especially when they are entire episodes, so it's not surprising that Univision is being so aggressive about it. Advertisers are already unhappy about the advent of DVRs and other equipment that enables viewers to FF through or even cut commercials out entirely. The last thing a broadcast network or their advertisers want is viewers deciding to watch the whole show on YouTube or a similar sort of site where IF there is advertising at all, its revenues are going to the host site and not to either the network or the advertisers who are helping the network put the show on the air in the first place. We may not like it, but it does make sense.
(Another problem Univision or the other Spanish-language networks might be experiencing when airing shows that were originally made for a different country than the US: Viewer complaints about scenes that were censored or deleted entirely to accommodate FCC regulations and/or to make more room for commercials, which scenes the viewers might not know about at all if not for being being able to watch the original Mexican/Colombian/wherever broadcast on YouTube...)

eh.. okay, I completely agree on the fact that Bruno is out of control now, but as much as nature sometimes overpowers nurture, I doubt anyone is born that completely evil, unless they really are mentally ill. Bruno just seems so very angry at everything and it just seems to me that a lot of it has been accumulating since childhood exactly because Victoria did not deal with that at all. Remarrying, bringing kids into a new house is always very challenging and needs sensitivity.
And yes, this is a TN and everything is exaggerated and by no means am I trying to say that Bruno is not responsible for what he's doing or that he isn't a horrible person, but...he wasn't born that way, he was allowed to become that way. Just my two cents...

Anon and Anon, you are certainly free to think as you will, but the facts do not support our beliefs. Sadly there are people who are simply born without the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. No amount of counseling or intervention will help these people. Often they can be spotted during their childhoods. The triad of early indicators is fire starting, animal cruelty, and bed wetting. As far as I know there is no successful way to guide these unfortunate children into socially acceptable behavior. Adults are concerned with only their immediate comforts and desires frequently to the detriment of others. There are currently no acceptable ways for society to deal effectively with these sociopaths. They are often charming and cunning, but always dangerous.

Carlos that very well maybe tru about certain people who are sociopaths. The problem that I have with Vicki and believe many others is it did not seem she tried at all to discipline him. If we were shown her being tough and punishing him as an child especially when he was picking, bullying and abusing Alex as an child. I believe we all would be more sympathetic with her. What we were shown is Vicki has made excuses for him and his bad behaviour. I believe that's not an good formula for someone to raise someone like that him in would you agree or not?

Carlos, I agree with you too that there are times when any sort of attempts to guide those individuals who are really unable to fit in and grasp the distinction between acceptable and unacceptable, right and wrong fail and there are times when nothing can be done to help them. But on the other hand, in this situation, as Anon 7:11 (and some others before?) also pointed out, we don't know that this was the case. If Vicki tried to discipline him and failed, it could have been ascribed to her son being one of those ill people, but we've seen no attempts on her part to do anything and she still continues to enable his behavior even after he attempted to kill his own brother. Plus, you also mentioned that frequently these individuals are charming and with nice personalities -- clearly this is not a description of her son, so all the red flags were there and maybe he would have never turned out a 'normal' person, but at least perhaps attempts at fratricide could have been avoided. Thank you Lea for agreeing with me. The only time we have seen Bruno be charming is when it helps his agenda. I believe that's another reason he hates Alex. Alex really doesn't have to try hard to be charming to get the girl. Bruno for what little charm he used to get MJ to fall for him. He now sees how quickly she's moved from him to Alex, he cannot stand it. It serves him right because it was his harebrained scheme to kill off Alex that started this.

Incog and Anons, I really don't recall seeing enough of the child-rearing done by any of those involved, Vicky, Sam, or Tony to draw conclusions. Sociopaths are charming only when it suits their agendas so Anon, you actually help make the case for Bruno being a sociopath. He certainly displays a number of sociopathic proclivities. I was initially responding to Anon's statement doubting if anyone is ever born evil. Unfortunately the evidence is overwhelming...yes. Fortunately, sociopaths are rare, but over my 40 yr. medical career, I can assure you that I have encountered a few, however, I've seen far more portrayed in TNs.

I agree with Carlos...that no discipline would have ever made a difference with Bruno. He was born with bad wiring- and remained angry as heck throughout his whole childhood. Uncontrollable, relentless jealousy and hatred even as a young boy despite receiving love from his Mom AND his Dad!. With this type of kid, something else would have set him off...even if he did not have a stepbrother to abuse. If I remember correctly, when Antonio first showed up at the house that day, you could tell there was something amiss with this little boy. Probably Vicki was unable to put him in therapy (and get medication) because the truth might have come out about her affair.We are all annoyed as hell at her but she did not make BRUNO this way. Her personal life was always super complicated by her overwhelming guilt.

It is most definitely possible to be born with bad wiring, a lack of conscience when it comes to right and wrong. Many people grow up in the most deplorable of conditions, mental and physical abuse, lack of love, hunger, chained to toilets as children, all kinds of terrible things that Bruno did not come even close to experiencing. Yet they didn't grow up and begin to plan and carry out murders and such because, oh, mommy didn't love me. They are bitter and angry and have a lot of issues, but they don't go around taking lives.
Killing someone in the heat of the moment or crime of passion style isn't what I'm referring to. When you can cold-bloodedly sit down without your life being in any danger and take the time to calculate the murder of another human being because of how they have slighted you, set it up, carry it out, and feel good about yourself afterward, that is a chemical imbalance. Sociopathic. Psychopathic. It's not like depression or other things that can develop because of situations. The seed has to already be there in order for anger and rage to lead to COLD killing.
Or I might have offed someone myself by now. JMHO.
